DPxDC Good!GIW Thoughts
After I wrote the Multiverse Police prompt, I've gotten a few replies and reblogs saying they've never seen good!GIW before, and I realized, wow, me neither!
The GIW are always the bad guys, and, well, yeah, they fit the criteria for being the shadow branch of the government to commit atrocities. But there's potential in good GIW.
Imagine it.
Imagine Amity Park being off-limits not because GIW wants to keep it contained but because they treat it like a resort or a national park. People are not allowed to freely come there only because GIW wants JL out of it since the heroes are going to treat the whole thing as a threat. But there's an infinite amount of knowledge there! A portal to the new world! New culture! Things you could never learn before!
Imagine Amity being under government's protection. Imagine Jazz attending a university with her full tuition paid by the GIW since she is, well, a liminal, a minority, and she is getting a degree that will help her establish connections between them and Infinite Realms.
Imagine GIW funding Fentons' research not in order to eradicate ghosts but to have a safe way to talk to them while not getting caught up in a fight with an impossibly strong being.
Imagine GIW being hella annoying to Danny because they just won't stop with their interviews and questionnaires. Which, actually, has the full potential to become confusing because imagine Batman meeting Phantom and Phantom is like, "Oh, yeah, there's a hidden government branch that I avoid like plague because they want to catch me" and Bats are super worried. In the meantime, GIW is looking for Danny simply because he is the most friendly ghost they encountered and they want their answers about the cultural differences between the dead and the living.
Now, there's also a way for this to become the thickest plot armor ever. Imagine Jazz is on a mission to get some artifact from the mortal world. Then imagine GIW helping her while they still can't exactly show they are government agents because who in their right mind would believe the government is studying ghosts? Anyway, Jazz now has the potential to become James Bond kind of cool. Wonderful.
Imagine Danny having trouble with the JL/Bats/police, and then he just, "Wait, let me call someone, I have the right to one phone call, right?" And not 15 minutes later, a bunch of secret government agents in white show up, and Danny is free to go while the agents are saying whatever happened is now classified in the best Batman manner.
Oh, what about a world-ending event where a ghost is involved, and the JL is at a loss of what to do. And then the white vans show up, packed with unknown tech, agents in white with blasters, and a few weird meta-kids no one knows anything about. They even have a K9 unit because, come on, Cujo could be a perfect friend for them.
Just GIW being the secret protection squad for Amity and ghosts.

I feel like so many countries don't teach the bad sides of their history. We all know the US' history coverage is, uhh, lacking when it comes to the US' many crimes and failures. I've heard Japan is the same and I just saw the tweet where someone with a Spanish flag emoji seemed to not know about the Spanish Inquisition.

Y’know what I wanna see?
More Wardens who are sketchy people. We are TOLD that the Wardens did bad things in the past and keep a lot of secrets and like. We have these moments of people doubting the Wardens. We know how Thedas as a whole has mixed opinions of the Wardens.
But as players we’re never really allowed to engage with them AS sketchy. The Hero of Ferelden is a hero! Origins lets you be evil but it doesn’t really have meaningful consequences for the world or the Wardens as a whole. Anders makes some Choices but they’re based on his background as a mage, not a Warden. Blackwall is explicitly complimentary to the Wardens, both in his in-character opinions of the organization and the man whose identity he stole, but also in a meta sense because his crimes weren’t done by a Warden, because he’s NOT a Warden. Davrin is EXPLICITLY a heroic, upstanding and dignified warrior. Davrin also has an…optimisitic? View of the organization, with his explicit discussion of the Wardens being a second chance for people (underlined by the fact that a Warden Rook is the only one who can reform the mayor of D’Meta’s Crossing by conscripting him).
Even the Wardens in Inquisition are being manipulated and controlled by Corypheus and the Venatori. They come off at worst as incompetent and fearful.
I don’t dislike this hopeful view of the Wardens at all. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Wardens as a paramilitary hit squad dedicated to fighting the imminent threat of the Blight.
I just think it would be interesting to dig more into the idea that anyone can become a Warden and how some people would use that reputation and opportunity for ill. Like I’m thinking about a character like Kimblee from Fullmetal Alchemist— someone who takes advantage of the carte blanche to enact their own principles and skirt consequences.
I wish the games dug more into the darker areas of the Wardens that we’re told exist but we don’t really get to SEE.

I'm tired,
of talking,
of being polite,
of not talking,
of the constant need to express myself,
and at the same time,
of explaining.
I wish I'd fall off the cliff already.
Always at the edge,
Burning, yet cold,
Falling, yet flying,
Always at the edge.

Do you ever think about how DCEU Arthur has always seen himself as a powerhouse and a "blunt instrument"? And he is by all means. But then after he fights Orm he has that moment when he speaks to Mera about giving up.
Because, underwater, Orm was too fast, too fluid, too powerful for Arthur to handle on his own.
Yet once Arthur fights Orm again, it's on land. And suddenly Arthur is the fluid one, the quick one. On land, Orm looks clumsy compared to Arthur—his hits are too heavy, his swings are too wide. The strength and power he has cultivated by fighting the resistance of water against his trident actively works against him and he constantly has to overcorrect, putting Arthur steps ahead of him.
And that maybe Arthur is proud of himself for defeating his brother, but he also realizes there is a whole other type of power and strength that he had barely skimmed the surface of which he witnessed for the first time when battling against his brother.

imagine if ren got the necromancy superpower in the wildcard's power shuffle. him being able to bring martyn back. realising for himself that it wouldn't be the same. because that wasn't the same martyn that he was teamed up with.
because that martyn was gone.
that would have haunted him, i think. disrupted something deep down. even though he would have a version of martyn, it's not him. it would fill a hole, sure, he would make sure that nothing would come between the two of them... but once the wildcard fades? he's gone again.
martren was a thing, sure, but would the thought of having martyn back... stir something? because whilst ren would have a part of martyn with him, surely the notion would change his approach: in some odd sense he wouldn't have been alone anymore. martyn would be safe with him, he would make sure of it.

Does anyone ever think about how crazy - or maybe just surreal - everything must feel to Shintaro post-STR?
‘Cause like, it’s finally over. Who knows how many loops, and they’re finally free
It’s probably not as big a deal to the others (they don’t have the weight of all those memories after all - except for Mary who I heard somewhere has nightmares about past loops?) but to him?
I’m kind of wondering if it would be a little overwhelming once it really sunk in. Just, imagine:
You’re Shintaro. You have all these memories in your head of the same things happening, over and over again. You never live past 18. One way or another, you never even make it out of summer. Usually because Clearing Eyes has brutally murdered everyone then forced Mary to reset time. Whenever your powers activate, you become aware of all this.
Until, everyone lives. Clearing Eyes is gone. It’s over. It’s finally over.
You make it through summer. It’s fall, then it’s winter, then spring - and your birthday. You’re 19. You’ve been 18 thousands of times, maybe for what feels like forever, and now you’re not. You’re finally growing older.
Like I said earlier, I think it might be a little overwhelming. Maybe he’ll get used to it, maybe he won’t. Maybe he’ll mostly adapt , but there’ll always be this little part of his mind that forgets they’re not stuck in a loop anymore - that’s used to expecting that they need to beat Clearing Eyes for everyone to be free.
Maybe I’ve just thought about it too much. Who knows.

★ Okay so, concept ★:
— |★| A giant/human is walking home with a tiny being held as a captive in their pocket. Though once they arrive home and check to see how their new little 'friend' is doing— they are quite baffled to find out that there is nothing in the pocket but a large tear, meaning that the little bugger has somehow managed to claw or bite through the cloth in order to escape their prison of fabric. You can decide wether the giant/human will be on the hunt for the tiny for the xyz reason, or if they just forget about the whole ordeal— only being annoyed at the fact that they have to patch up their pocket or something.
