i love the tragedy of his story arc... that feels like a weird thing to say but its the first thing that came to mind! just. look. the road to hell paved with good intentions bit taken to the extreme really works here!!! the idea that he remembered the name of every person he ever killed because he was under the impression he could bring them all back, only to have the rug pulled from under him? hurts me! in the best way!!!

other than that i do enjoy his design, both romeo himself and the bed :] i wanna give my bedman cosplay another try sometime for sure, it didnt work out for various reasons but i have most of the components and would enjoy cosplaying him fr in the future

Best and Worst LI from each series

Inspired by this post by @choices-binglebonkus from a couple of years back. I came across it recently and I felt compelled to do my own.

Keep in mind that I haven't played some of these stories in a while, and there are a handful where I haven't even started or completed them. So a lot of stuff here is subject to change.

TCATF

Best: For Kenna: I'm not sure. For Dom: probably Sei because I loved their relationship in Book 2. But it's been a while.

Worst: For Kenna: I'm still not sure. For Dom: either Rose because of how she's written out of Book 2 with the inability to transfer data, or Will Jackson with how he was so obviously a last minute addition.

[MW: Haven't played yet, and IIRC this one didn't really have any LIs or romance.]

ROE

Best: As pleasant as the 3 main LIs were, all their romances with MC felt very empty and rushed, which to be fair is expected when Nana's forcing you to marry by the end of the summer. As for the other characters, it's still hard to pick one that's the best cause I didn't find any of the romances particularly remarkable. I'd have to go either with Party Twin's LIs or cousin's romance with Chaz because they were the only ones that didn't feel like clusterfucks.

Worst: Like I said, all of MC's romances were empty. But since I'm including the other characters' romances too, easily Audrey and Elena. Audrey was a very unpleasant character towards Bookish Twin in Books 1 and 2. And same for Elena in part of Book 2 and all of Newlyweds; she had every right to be upset at Brother for hiding his past ex wife, but she acted incredibly petty and immature over it.

ES

Best: I didn't really get to romance anyone in my playthrough but either Jake or Estela. Jake has some really funny one-liners and nicknames. Estela I saw has the "Dont. Touch. My. Husband/Wife!!!" line that makes me really want to do a romance with her as a m!MC. I love protective gfs, I aspire to be a protective gf.

Worst: None of them because all of them are great characters. But if I had to choose... maybe Quinn? She didn't feel as fleshed out to me as the other 3. But it's been 2 and a half years since I last played so yeah.

LH

Best: None of them really grabbed me, but I'd have to go with either Leah or Ben. Ben is just a sweetheart, but I also liked the interactions between Leah and MC in Book 2.

Worst: Mark wasn't bad, but I couldn't buy into the relationship with him as well as I could the other two.

THOBM

Best: Eleanor for sure. She is partly responsible for my realizing that I'm not straight. She's supposed to be this stoic ghost woman, but gets super flustered and blushy when you flirt with her??? Bye bye heterosexuality.

Worst: Victor wasn't bad but he was just... a total non-character. Yeah, a rare story where a female LI takes the spotlight and a male LI is sidelined.

TRR: I haven't really played past Book 1, but I've already deemed Liam as my favorite LI. Though I am biased because this is the first book I started when I first got into Choices back in February 2021 (I'm a fandom baby I know), but he won my heart instantly in that premium scene where MC can take him on a boat to see the statue of liberty. And throughout the rest of the book he's just a very sweet and pleasant character. So I'm just gonna leave it at that and not deem a worst LI just yet.

Hero

Best: It's been a long time but I strongly remember quite liking Grayson. He was sweet and cute. Kenji was also pretty decent but I don't think I liked him quite as much as I did Grayson.

Worst: Eva isn't a bad character, but she was introduced way too late into the story for me to truly care about her.

OG HSS

Best: AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN-MOTHER-FUCKING-ZHOU!!!!!! Sweet mother of all things holy how am I supposed to talk about this in only one paragraph???

As if it wasn't obvious, I love everything about him and he's easily my favorite Choices character of all time. For one, I love male characters who are more on the soft and gentle side. Aiden is definitely that, and his tendency to get flustered and blushy is adorable. For two, he's passionate, dedicated, just very earnest and down-to-earth. And especially in Book 1, we see how he struggles with self-esteem. He's passionate, but he doesn't consider himself as such. He considers himself a failure for the screwed up halftime performance. He doesn't feel he knows how to communicate to MC right and thinks lower of himself for preferring to communicate through music.

I found a lot of these aspects very relatable myself, outside of music though, because I can't play an instrument to save my life. But I do have a passion for stuff like drawing, writing, and editing. And I think relating to Aiden so much sort of added to how authentic the romance route with him and MC felt for me. There were a couple of moments where I could have my MC sort of connect with him– the rooftop scene where MC can say that seeing how passionate he is inspires them to do better, their scene at homecoming in the band room where MC can say that social interactions don't come easy to them either despite how confident they can be.

And just... the whole romance route feels so earned and well-paced? I mean I'm sure all of the routes in HSS are like that but I especially love it here. How you can give him time of day to listen to him play piano, slowly help him step out of his comfort zone, I love how protective you can be of him in Book 2 and how you can be there for him when Isa and his parents are punishing him, and how he's then being there for you during the Book 3 drama when you're accused of sabotage. And all the moments such as becoming official with him, him confessing his love to MC and how you can confess back... it just all feels so organic.

Also the romance route with him hits so much different if you romance him as a band kid. You get extra moments with him, not to mention when you're about to play his song at the spring concert and they say how "there's a glint in his eyes you haven't seen before" and after you play it they say "his eyes gleam with pride" like HELLO??? That extra bit of connection they have when they're *both* musicians???? Shit like this is why I sing my praises to this trilogy so much.

Worst: None of them! Okay but if I had to choose... well, this is gonna pain me to say this, but Michael.

I adore his character arc and he's my second most favorite HSS character and Choices LI, but when I tried romancing him (and I did so twice), I noticed he actually felt a lot more underdeveloped in comparison to the other LIs. Specifically in Book 2, as he's the only character who isn't really struggling with anything. He felt very lacking in presence for the first half of that book– even moreso than Emma, whose subplot didn't even have anything to do with the main Isa plot. And so Book 2 kinda felt like this big gap in the relationship journey that he and MC can have.

Then again, maybe he and Evie Ayana (my MC) just don't have all that much chemistry and I should try romancing him as a brand new version of the MC.

ILITW

Best: My personal favorite is Lucas, but honestly? It's a tough tie between him, Andy, and Ava. Andy I'd say had the stronger character arc, but I personally related more to Lucas. Ava however is certainly the most memorable and witty of them.

Worst: Connor. He's not bad and I quite liked some of the banter between him and MC, but he is lacking in ways that make him stick out like a sore thumb. All these other LIs are characters attending school with MC, that MC has been friends with since childhood, who have all experienced Jane's death up-front as kids. Connor lacks all of that, being Stacy's older brother of 2 years and not really part of the friend group. And he doesn't really have much of a character arc like the others do to make up for that. I don't mind MC romancing outside of their close childhood friends, but it just felt a bit harder to connect with him on the same level as the others.

HFTH:

Best: Wyatt was probably the most memorable of the bunch.

Worst: Nick was annoying, but he did get better in the second half of the story. Holly was alright but very bland.

Best: Hayden without a doubt, though I'm certainly very fond of Sloane too. Hayden is a literal robot, yet they still feel more like an actual human being than like 90% of the customizable LIs we've been getting. The whole arc with them basically having an existential crisis upon realizing they're an android, then eventually going on to start a new identity for themselves... I loved it. And as a bonus, the customizable aspect is kind of integrated in the story itself rather than being a meta choice.

Worst: None of them. Maybe Alana and Khaan, cause they seemed to be somewhat pushing some romance with them in Book 2, but it felt very muddled and unclear.

BB

Best: All of them. But I'm probably most fond of Kamilah "I'm *her* queen. And she's mine." Sayeed. Jax and Lily are close seconds though as they're incredibly memorable (also the mass fandom hatred for Lily that was apparently a thing... yeah very sus to me. why did y'all hate her.)

Worst: None of them. I'd say maybe Adrian didn't stand out quite as much as the others?

AME

Best: None of the LIs really stood out to me but my favorite would probably have to be Jen, she was sweet and always tried to help MC.

Worst: Derek had to be the most lackluster of them all IMO.

ATV

Best: For MC: I was most fond of Kepler the buff queen and Meridian the sweet medic. For Eos: Gee Zekei, how come PB lets you be a romance option for two playable characters? For Pax: Holmes is precious.

Worst: IDK honestly. I wasn't a fan of Zaniah's betrayal or whatever it was. But IDK.

[BSC: Haven't played yet.]

HSS:CA

Best: Objectively speaking, Skye. She's the one thing that HSS:CA enjoyers and HSS:CA critics and haters can agree that is good about the series, and honestly that's deserved. Everything about her character storyline is pretty damn immaculate. That being said, I romanced Ajay and I'm personally very fond of him. Although I didn't care much for him in Book 1, Books 2 and onwards make him a much more sympathetic and compelling character. And personally, I tend to chalk up the whole siding against MC thing to be lazy OOC writing considering A) he'd warned MC about Danielle in the earlier chapters and B) directors generally have a responsibility to stay unbiased in these kinds of situations, and given how seriously Ajay takes being a director, realistically I think he would have tried to stay unbiased and tell the other accusers to fuck off. PB, you did my boy dirty.

Worst: Rory. I didn't hate them and they're a pretty decent character on their own, but they're easily the weakest LI of CA and of HSS as a whole. They have zero character development over the trilogy. Book 1 forcing our MC to crush on them and agonize so much over wanting their first kiss with Rory on stage was obnoxious and unnecessary, and it didn't help that their entire personality in said book didn't really go much beyond "popular theatre heartthrob". They try so hard to force us to like them by flaunting how popular they are and having Cunt and Nasty– sorry I mean Clint and Natalie– constantly fawn over them. Rory was thankfully no longer forced in Book 2 and had somewhat more character (also the way they called out Morgan's hypocrisy and single handedly destroyed her campaign is peak Rory), but the whole election plotline did nothing for their character. Book 3 gives them some sort of conflict with their parents, but it's just the group thinking Rory's dad is cheating only for it to be the good ole misunderstanding cliche.

ILB

Best: Tom. Parker was pretty adorable too, but nothing beats the part in the premium lake day scene where Tom wishes he'd won a giant teddy so he could put it in the passenger seat and be able to go into the fast lane and then MC can give him the teddy they won (if they did win).

Worst: Danni for how she can be needlessly callous towards Parker's memory if he ends up leaving the group. Even if he's dead. It comes off as extra hypocritical if Danni ended up caving to Astrid's temptations as well.

Best: Either Syphax or Cassius for their loyalty to MC.

Worst: IDK.

Best: Eris Huang is an icon. "Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals".

Worst: I didn't care for Sonia. I mean she was alright and I liked her redemption arc, but she just didn't vibe with me as a LI.

Best: Colt is the only LI I felt had any real character depth, any real significance, any real reason for me to give a shit about him.

Worst: The pushing of Logan as the main LI felt very forced, unnecessary, and undeserved. Like... there wasn't anything all that special about him.

OPH: I haven't really played past Book 1, but I'm quite fond of Bryce.

Best: Katherine the "I don't like being saved" was fun to romance as a male MC. But either Vera or Cal would have to be the strongest character-wise.

Worst: This book was boring and Simon/Ava's motives for making a fake marriage with the MC felt very contrived.

Best: Cassian. This book sucks but Cassian was at least a pleasant character.

Best: Sam Dalton. I mean he's not brilliant or anything but I do have a bit of a soft spot for them because TNA 1 was the first Choices story I ever completed. Also the first time a f!MC was allowed to get up in her m!LI's bootyhole.

Worst: Also Sam Dalton because of all the "+Desire +Desire +Desire +Desire +Desire +Desire" and shit

QB: I've twice attempted playthroughs of this and ended up neglecting both of them halfway through Book 1. But I did quite like Ian/Ina.

TUH: I started a playthrough back when it was releasing to all and then ended up neglecting it by like Ch10. I'll need to start playing again, but I remember being quite fond of Mr. John Somerset.

Best: All the LIs were pretty compelling characters, they just had shit stories with a shit MC. But of the three of them, Ava was probably the most compelling to me.

Best: IDK. I'm tempted to say Jack/Jacqueline because I did like their banter with the MC, but other than that they were rather bland.

Worst: Like I said, Jack/Jacqueline felt very bland outside of the banter they could have with MC.

Best: Morgan was easily the most fleshed out and compelling of the two LIs.

Worst: Bastien is derivative as all hell. Seriously, pick up any werewolf-themed YA erotic story and the male werewolf LI in it will almost certainly be identical to Bastien.

Best: This is a tough one. Chef Flint's character was a lot more derivative and I personally preferred being around Julia(n). But Julia(n) was also an incredibly useless character, you could remove them from the story and nothing important would change.

Best: As much as I didn't care for the series, I did find both LIs pretty decent. But of the two of them, Aislinn is much more fleshed out.

Worst: Gabe, who wasn't bad but wasn't nearly as fleshed out as Aislinn.

Best: Manu was a pretty interesting character. The relationship with them is pretty straightforward, but it was interesting and even a bit sweet later on. And apparently your bond score can determine whether or not you survive in the last chapter? Also this is the only single LI story I know of where you can choose a more platonic route with the LI.

Best: I think I liked Angel the most. She was fun.

Best: None. None. None. Noooooooooooone.

Worst: Fuck Reagan Thorne. Worst LI on the app ever. I'll admit Book 2 does go a little more in-depth with their background, but as someone who has been in a similar situation, God they botch it horribly because 90% of this book is spent doubling down on Reagan's toxicity. And just when MC finally gets the self-respect to leave them after that awful "When a woman agrees to be my sub she agrees to obey" line, they then throw it right in the trash with how easily she ends up getting back with them. Bruh throw the whole LI in the trash.

COP

Best: Trystan is a fun character and their relationship with the MC is very refreshing. They're both equals for once in a single LI story, and it'll be interesting no matter which gender you choose for each character (whereas in most single LI stories they're really only interesting if you play as anything other than wlm).

Worst: None.

UT

Best: None.

Worst: Kit is the textbook definition of a soulless personality-less customizable LI. They try to push them as this "player" except it's moreso just people flocking to Kit rather than Kit flirting with others.

Best: Clarke was a fun character and the female white sprite also contributes to me knowing I'm not straight.

Worst: Devon was nice but they were kind of bland and useless.

TCH: I've only played Book 1 so far and haven't yet started Book 2, but I found Kieran pretty decent and I enjoyed their development.

Best: Tyler! He's arguably the least developed of the LIs but he was my favorite because he's just so babygirl. I miss when we had true softie male LIs. Also, bonus points for the dialogue changes about him realizing he's not straight if you romance him as a male or enby MC.

Worst: Not sure. Maybe Donovan because he could be a bit callous to the MC in the earlier chapters. I get why he was acting like that, but some of it did seem a bit excessive. But even then, he's still a very fleshed out character and his callousness doesn't go on for too long, so it's hard to, in good faith, deem him as the "worst". But I will also say that Stevie being MC's childhood best friend felt very poorly set up.

Best: None of them. Rowan was underdeveloped and Agent Grey was mostly very one note. They have some alright interactions, but I personally found the two hookup options Lou and Alexis far more interesting.

Worst: Like I said, Agent Grey was very one note. They seemed to be trying to go for the whole James Bond trope with having a companion that he has a bit of bantery romance with, except there wasn't much flavor to the relationship between MC and Agent Grey. Grey's character is pretty much entirely just being a tsundere.

Honestly, even setting aside the question of “how much of that was Buddy rather than Boris that you interact with in Chapter 3,” I really feel like “afraid to enter a dark area in a building full of dangerously violent creatures” and “flashbacks and disorientation triggered by darkness, because it’s strongly associated with years of patrolling in the dark, manifest as a phobia of dark areas” are pretty different situations! Like… Buddy might still be nervous in the dark after Everything, might even want to avoid sleeping in Complete Dark, but he can sleep with the lights off. Different people respond to things differently, and I don’t think it’s as simple as “this character was afraid of X in a scary place, why didn’t it become a phobia?” After all, if it consistently worked that way, then Norman should like the dark.

I don’t know that Buddy really GOT anything out of the escape, like he hasn’t been taught any SPECIFIC COOL COPING TECHNIQUES or anything…. HES JUST DOING HIS BEST while being crammed into a house with 8 other people, some of whom either murdered or attempted to murder him. He tries to keep busy and help out around the house as much as possible, but I kinda think he was already like that before ink hell happened.

But one new thing didn’t come from ink hell at all –

-- before Sammy and Jack sorted out their rooming situation, Buddy was rooming with Jack (partially so he could help with mobility stuff), and when Jack found out about Buddy’s attempt to tell his story to Dot, he was absolutely invested. This kid may say he’s not a writer, but you wrote HOW many pages, Buddy? That’s practically a novel!

The Escape House situation has made Buddy’s feelings on what happened to him complicated. There’s no one left to save anymore, and telling his story now would only endanger the few people they’ve managed to rescue. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone, so… maybe it’s for the best that most of DCTL was lost in the Studio. But… there’s still this huge injustice nobody knows about, people who disappeared off the face of the earth for no reason and must’ve been missed, and a lot of really horrible things that happened to him that he has no real way to process. Maybe it's a little weird for Jack to compare his desperate letter to a friend to the first draft of a story, but I think the encouragement to write again, to let his imagination do SOMETHING with all these feelings and find ways to let them out even if they're a little more fictional, ends up being really important for him. And like, I’m sure he’d try drawing again, too, especially with Henry there taking up some freelance work and making it look tempting. But with Jack delighted to have something to give creative feedback on and cheer him on… it was nice for Buddy to immediately make a friend that was sort of separate from all of the horrible nonsense that happened to him.

There certainly is a delicacy that comes with talking about a possibly closeted couple, and that delicacy is often mistreated amongst fandom. It is something that I have thought about myself at times. What makes me personally talk about these things is that ultimately I want things to improve, and I believe that ignoring situations like this or throwing them under the rug will never lead to improving the way queerness is being accepted. When everyone turns a blind eye things will just continue on, and to me that is just not acceptable. So I try to talk about it with respect and I will never ever direct my words to Tae and Jk themselves.

There's a stark difference in people denying a relationship for personal reasons and in people denying a relationship for the benefit of a music label. One is for reasons of privacy and the other is forced upon them for monetary reasons. Denial is a very real part of closeting. When you look at the history of queer artists, there are many denials to be found. There are many stories of queer artists about having been made to deny or to act as though they were straight. Syco (the label 1D was under) has a awful history of abuse and toxicity, with artists coming out with their stories (forced substance abuse, forced closeting, etc..) even these days. If you think companies don't force their artists to deny and to pretend they're straight you would be very much mistaken.

It is a type of gaslighting in my opinion to lay the burden on fandom. Because way too often companies play into shipping. Too often fandoms get set aside as crazy emotional teenage girls who should not be taken seriously. It is a stereotype I strongly dislike because it is ageist and mysogynistic and it teaches young people that they are not to be taken seriously. Not all of fandom is young, but also.. being young does not mean that you are delusional. Being female does not mean that you let your emotions get the better of you.

There is a huge part of fandom that I dislike because they go too far and they lack a base of reality. Larry fandom especcially is very very difficult, and I can totally understand seeing them as delusional if you have only seen it from after 1D split up. But in my opinion there absolutely is a reason for people to believe Louis and Harry were together at one point. I'm not going to get into it on here (there's great places to go if you'd want to, but I don't feel much for having both fandoms arguing in my inbox).

lets work in areas, we'll start with the park ghosts, and then year order, then ill give paps answers as to how he feels about them at the end

Nightmare - He admires Papyrus's enthusiasm, and can see how he very clearly cares about his brother very strongly, and admires how close they are as siblings, something he wishes he had with dream. He also sees how him and dream similar, at least, how he remembers dream to be.

Cross - He sees the hidden strength that others do not in him, but also sees his peaceful nature within. Always sees the good in everyone, believing that they can be the best version of themself if they try, something he wishes he could have himself.

Dust - is kinda scared of him, but once he saw that he wasn't like his brother, he warmed up to him, wishing his brother was like him, someone who cared, and when sans told paps about this, paps offered to be his new brother, dust smiled for the fist time in a long while when he got the news

Horror - He wants so desperately to hug paps, and thank him for everything he has and still does for sans and their makeshift family. When paps learned of Horrors past, he told sans to bring him some of the spaghetti he was making, and leave it as an offering for him to have. Horror cried when he got the food. Paps insists that even when he doesnt go with sans to see them, that he take food for him, and Horror is so honoured

Killer - He sees Paps as the brother he never had. Killer didnt have any siblings, the only one i believe - minus blue who im working on behind the scenes - and in the ghost family, he's the youngest, he kinda sees paps as his baby brother, but doesnt want to share that cus he feels like he'd be stealing him from his real brother if he did, which is silly, paps has enough love for everyone.

Hospital

Dream - he relates to paps, and sees his younger self in his carefree attitude. He sees the adult Paps is, still so hopeful about the world, and wishes he still thought that way.

Geno - doesnt really interact with him much, he likes him, but theyre not very close. Genos kinda a mum friend, and sees paps as someone in the group of people he cares for, but they dont spend much time together

Town

Ink - routinely forgets of paps existence, when he's reintroduced, they get along great, and tend to hype each other up when talking about topics theyre interested in, very eager to hear about the others interests

Lust - while first wary, lust if very comfortable with him now. lust tends to be cautious with everyone he meets for the first time, due to his past, but he sees that paps is a good person, and sees him as what everyone should be, a shoulder to cry on, and a friend to lift your spirits ;)

Error - He doesnt really care about paps, he doesnt really care about anyone, but sometimes paps will offer him some wool or some knitting needles, and is now in his good books, though he'll refuse to admit it

Nightmare - he tries to help him see that he doesnt need to be so uptight all the time, everyone around him loves him, he doesnt always need to be "perfect," hes perfect to them all the same

Cross - He thinks Cross is so cool! While obviously paps is very cool, sometimes deep down he doesnt really believe it, but Cross really is! he hopes one day he will be just as brave and cools as him!

Dust - He feels really bad for him, he just want to give him a big hug, but he cant, so he'll make do with silent one sided comfort. he understands what its like for there to be so much noise in your head, that sometimes you want to scream, sometimes all you need is a hand to.... not hold

Horror - He's very glad that such a great baker likes his cooking! sometimes, he'll ask horror for new recipes, or tips to try, and together they run a small cooking blog online, stating that they have and old family cook book, and want the world to have access to those recipes, with sans typing it up for them - Its Ghost written ;)

Killer - He's very energetic! If he was visible to him, he'd love to show off cool magic attacks or have a friendly spar with him! They'd get along like a house on fire - just dont tell Nightmare that

Dream - Hes so sad to see the light squashed out of someone once a beacon of joy, and he hopes that with a few more people to speak to, and someone to show him the world can be good, that spark will rekindle - but maybe dont word it like that

Geno - He's very nice! Very mature, if a little morbid, he want to get closer to him, maybe he just needs to visit a little more!

Ink - Hes very cool! A very talented artist, and he like all papyrus's puzzles! sometimes they'll talk for hours about new ideas

Lust - he doesnt understand why lust wont show himself to him, that what his power is, right? But he respects that maybe he just doent want to! thats okay, he cant see the other ghosts either, if lust wants space to be happy, he can give him that

Error - He sees him as sort of like a cat, antisocial, but will begrudgingly tolerate your presence, one day he'll get him to like him! he refuses to give up!

Now, you have to remember, Papyrus cant see the ghosts, and while he can kinda feel where they are, he cant hear them (with the exception of horror, but thats not his voice) so -

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? errrrrrrrrrrrrm. i dont usually advocate for ships being canon, since shipping is just about having fun in fandom and clinking dolls together, and etc etc, but... i genuinely think monochrome wouldve been a great canon ship. theres a lot of potential and substance with these two that i feel the show proper unfortunately ignored or wrote accidentally. weiss in the early volumes (and even in later ones i think) proves to be very emotionally intelligent and aware of blake's feelings and keeps an eye out for her which is super interesting but also i think the writers wrote that accidentally because they don't do anything with it and they have a tendency to tell us people are close instead of showing us. if they meant for that to happen they wouldve had a character say weiss is emotionally intelligent by now lol

Why don’t you ship it? canon kinda... turned me off from it. i thought it was fun in v1, and shipped it hard alongside monochrome, but the more the show went on the less i felt interested in it. canon made me partial towards blacksun due to all of their set up and plot points together (and a similar dynamic to bumblebee). cus of that bumblebee kinda felt like... off brand blacksun? so i just didn't bother with it. that, and the fans also turned me off HAHA. usually i don't let fandom mess with how i view ships, but man it was just tiring, especially with how queerbaity the show was up until v9. i didnt really like it. an interesting thing i noticed, which def wasn't intentional, is that blake gravitates towards yang who is similar to her abuser (adam: similar semblance mechanics and anger issues(?)) and yang gravitates toward blake who is similar to her mother (similar appearance, both abandoned yang furthering her abandonment issues). they almost seem codependent, which is cool from a toxic yuri storyline but i am 100% sure thats not what canon was going for. blake's lost her personality and so has yang so they can fit into a "shy wallflower needs her brash girlfriend to stand up for her" dynamic which. boooo character assassination boooo

What would have made you like it? probably if more time was spent with blake and yang's friendship instead of blake and sun's. sun got more spotlight than yang in the early volumes, and from v4-5 he was the only friend with her the whole time. if there wasn't any blacksun buildup then i totally woulda been more partial to bumblebee in canon. concept wise its fun on its own, im just not partial to how the show used those ideas

second of all its been days and i am still processing like this has never happened to me before ?? usually i am a lil :// until the rest of the day when i finish a sad drama but with this im just so heartbroken still. yesterday during a big mental breakdown (unrelated to the drama i am not THAT crazy ok) i realised why it hit me so hard and i think its bc i somehow relate to sieun (anger issues and all /j) and so i somehow projected into his character and so when it all went down with suho i just couldnt deal w it ?? I LEGIT HAD A MINI PANIC ATTACK it felt like it was happening to me 😭😭😭 like he was such comfort for me. he broke the cycle of loneliness and stereotype for sieun and i just really adored each interaction they had. the fact that they would both kill and die for each other makes me bawl my eyes out.

but when it all comes down to it, i understand beomseok, i really do, but i also dont. i dont think ill ever forgive that character, i just cant. i cant imagine how it must have felt for him and i couldnt be able to deal w life either if i was in his shoes, but my brain just cant grasp the lengths he went to hurt people that did nothing but care for him and tried to help him with everything. he's a complex character for sure, one you have to analyze to get, but i dont have it in me to have a single ounce of sympathy after the ending of the drama.

but to think that the parents and the adults were truly at fault here ?? beomseok being abused, sieun abandoned and neglected, suho not really having parents around either (i read somewhere that they are canonically abroad or something?? not too sure), the policemen not taking sieun seriously at first, the teachers seeing the shit happening and not doing anything to stop the bullying... where were everyones parents when all those kids got caught up w the gang? its truly sickening and heartbreaking to think that this truly could be happening anywhere and to anyone.

and it broke me so much bc i could accept beomseok drifting away from them and stuff, but to gang up on suho on his fucking birthday? sieun cooking and decorating with young yi and taking pics for her insta (i strongly believe her and sieuns friendship is SO underrated they were so cute together) and both of them just hid it from everyone to protect suho,, their sunshine ??? the poor boy must have been so confused and lonely on his bday and it makes me :( and then when he saw sieuns cast and went to avenge him ?? The medium itself really does seem to trip over Rindo's arc. One of the very first things you do in the game is make a choice-- between ramen and indian food. At first, Rindo doesn't seem to struggle with this choice, and the player isnt put in a position to struggle with the choice either. Depending on how you interpret the dialogue, it in fact seems like rindo doesn't have any trouble here despite not being all that hungry. If this scene is meant to be early evidence of rindo's struggle with taking charge then we would be compelled to think about what rindo ought to have done for himself, but nothing reasonable comes to mind. One could say that maybe fret is making decisions in rindo's place here, but then why does rindo get the choice? If this constitutes rindo letting fret make decisions for him, then should he have instead suggested a different food joint? despite not being all that hungry? Or should he have denied wanting to go get food, despite his friend being hungry? None of that makes particular sense, but its hard to fit this early player choice into rindo's character arc without insinuating theres an invisible choice rindo himself is not making.

Maybe an intended effect was that Rindo is passing his decision off to the player. After all, even after you choose your eatery rindo doesnt sound particularly committed. But this isnt a game with an intentional separation between character and player identity, so theres no reason to feel that way. At least as it happens. No, it's clear that we're really not intended to read rindo's indecision in how we play him. Rather, this moment is used to show us rindo's flaw with fret's dialogue towards him about making up his mind.

Fret only urges rindo to pick if you back out of the shop selection, meaning its possible some players may not see that dialogue. In a way that's almost clever because that means the dialogue only appears if you-as-rindo go back and forth on the matter. But theres a double edged sword to that. The player, while exploring this new game, is most likely going to have a look at both options before choosing. The player relies on this mode of interaction just to know if theres a difference between these choices in the first place, for the purposes of playing a game. At this point the player should take a moment to look at both of them even though it'll end up making no difference. Rindo on the other hand really is just picking a place to eat.

This, like, mentally separates our choices from rindo's choices, which reduces that dialogue with fret to something that could have been a normal scene to click through. Thats a shame because to me it seems like it was really trying to take advantage of the fact that players would inherently check out each location. But instead it confuses the purpose of the scene by unintentionally highlighting how much the player cannot be in rindo's shoes. I dont think this confusion makes the intended purpose of the scene unrecognizable, but one might not read anything into fret's dialogue at first glance and just interpret it as some sassy videogame-ness because it was their choice and not rindo's. Or worse, one may feel slightly persecuted for reasonably looking at both locations and then write it off.

This is not an easy dilemma to solve! There's a reason separation between story and gameplay is literally everywhere in games. I do know what i would do personally though, in the case of characterizing rindo. It's not easy to manufacture player indecision and keep things simple at the same time, so i probably wouldn't even try in this kind of game. Instead, i would make choices apparent to the player, and then deny them from the player by rindo's inability to be proactive. Specifically, at a crossroad, the player could be presented with a number of options, but when trying to choose/select any of them rindo could stop and think that he's not sure about that.

In the case of the restaurants, when the player tries to pick, rindo could stop the player from choosing quickly. Maybe this could happen even after the player checks them both out, but even without that, the interactivity of this segment would have the opportunity to be more effective by intentionally rubbing up against the player choices. In the case of any later scenes, rindo could have a small list of options before exhausting them all and being left with doing nothing-- until replay. I feel this can only be done a few times before it gets too annoying, but a few times should be enough to make this feel like an actual fault of rindo's.

Because thats the overarching issue right? We can see that the story is telling us what rindo's flaw is. Even from early on. But its hard to feel that thats the issue when the opportunities rindo doesn't take arent obvious. And then that makes it hard to feel the change in him, and connect the theme he represents to the broader story.

Theres the potential here for rindo's arc to have much more of a punch, maybe especially for people who share rindo's flaw. Like, given how reasonable rindo's choices to be uninvolved sometimes are, someone who shares rindo's flaw might not see his behavior as a flaw MUCH longer than the average player. This is opposed to Neku and anyone who related to him who were told outright they should stop being the way that they were, which allowed the idea time to build up across the story. I feel like if rindo's flaw were portrayed kinda like described, the quality of his arc could have eclipsed neku's.

17. Character you think had the best arc

Sort of Rindo, sort of Shoka

Shoka's arc is probably the best-written in the game. She's given the most backstory out of all of the new characters, and with the main antagonists of the game being her own once happy, now crumbling family, the whole narrative is perfectly suited to fleshing out her individual storyline. There's a lot of room to develop her and the writers definitely made the most of it. It's just not my personal favourite. Shoka's a good character and all, but she didn't really click for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think Rindo's arc is pretty decisive in the fanbase? Some people think it was done well, others think it pales in comparison to Neku's. Personally I think that subtlety in a character's arc is a good thing (I say subtlety lightly, Rindo's deal becomes pretty obvious if you're paying attention in the right places) but it's not really in the twewy spirit. Neku set a standard of heavily flawed protagonists with very clear deficits of character to the point of starting off as flat-out unlikable, and while early Rindo does teeter towards this, it feels like the writers didn't commit to it entierly. Or didn't want to. Or couldn't.

One of Rindo's biggest problems is that the medium he's in can be counterintuitive to what his arc is trying to achieve. Rindo is supposed to be a weak-willed, indecisive train wreck who constantly hoists responsibility onto others so that he can avoid the consequences of having made the wrong decision. And while this does come across, it's hampered by the fact that as the player character, you are constantly taking control of and making decisions for him. He starts to feel less like the kind of person who's incapable of making a choice, and more like someone who can and will when it really comes down to it.

I dont think his arc is bad or especially unclear. I think it can be easy to forget what his deal is supposed to be when from the player's perspective, he's been in control this whole time, even when the narrative is trying its best to tell you that this isn't the case. You've gotta look just a teensy tiny bit closer into what he's thinking and saying over what you're leading him to do.

It also doesn't help that the most obvious instances of him being indecisive or having lingering doubts are entierly reasonable. For example, it is a huge decision whether or not to trust a rival team leader who's survival depends on your demise. Really, it starts to feel more like Rindo is being understandably cautious and Fret is the one at fault for pushing him to make a quick decision based at least in part on his crush. He's not at all impartial, and Rindo doesn't push it down to the wire enough for it to be a major issue.

Also!!! The absolute biggest issue I take with Rindo's arc is that he never abuses his Replay in a way that would've made sense for an arc centered around avoiding responsibility. He's pretty much always forced to use it during situations that are out of his control because they could've only been avoided with information that he didn't have at the time. So much of the Soul Pulvis generated isn't Rindo's fault at all. It's Nagi's for exploding him with her mind or Minamimoto's for withholding his help (twice!) with the express purpose of triggering a Replay, or its because he and the others were held up by completely unforeseeable circumstances caused by Noise or other Players. Had Rindo been forced to use Replay for situations he undeniably caused because of his inability to make a decision, or even better, if he'd started to make decisions apathetically knowing that he can just go back and fix it if it didn't work out, I think his arc could've absolutely shone and even rivaled Neku's, as iconic as it was.

This has become a whole essay now and I'm sorry. The TLDR is that Rindo's arc is good, but it definitely has its faults. Some are on the part of the writers, but some are unavoidable based on the fact that he's the player character and is going to be subject to some projection that might make him appear to be more of a leader than he was in the early days of the game. It could've been better, but it's definitely not as bad as some people make it out to be.

19. Overall, do you prefer the first game's cast or Neo's?

In retrospect the second game is filled with so many recurring characters that this is a hard question to answer. Plus there was pretty even focus on the Reapers vs the Players whereas the first game was pretty solidly concerned with the core Hachiko Gang, and every other character was designed with the intent of contrasting with them in some regard (Konishi and Beat's whole mind vs the heart deal for example). It's kind of an unfair comparison since both games set out to accomplish different and not necessarily better or worse things with their casts, but in general I've got a bigger soft spot for twew1's cast over neo's. I like the Shibuya Reapers a lot. I'm literally writing a whole collection of drabbles about them being friends. It's some kind of brainworm idk

- Someone to talk to about anything

- Someone to hold your hand through everything

- You never thought you'd find that someone either

- You had given up on the hopes long ago so you reluctance at the beginning of your relationship with Corpse was completely understandable

- You were quick to speak on your concerns, all those little demons that arise in your head whenever you step in a new relationship of any kind, especially romantic

- The way you grew attached to people so quickly and so strongly could easily be used against you one way or another

- And, more often than not, the people you found yourself in a relationship with used it to their advantage, not giving a crap that they were hurting you in the process

- It always seemed to be the same pattern: you met someone, grew attached, became prepared to do anything to avoid losing them (even things you wouldn't typically agree to), they'd use you, they'd leave you and you'd still think it was all your fault

Okay about how long did Entrapta and Hordak know each other as in personally interacting. They met on s2 after Catra told Entrapta to stay away from Hordak. From then since Catra getting sentenced to death it was how long, a week? Then the entire season 3 takes place within idk, a couple of days?

I just consider this fact when people say that they're gonna like totally get married now that they reunited. Same with Scorfuma.

Theres nothing more alienating for a single 26 year old than thinking about dozens of people younger than you getting married

As for how long they knew each other, I can actually give you a pretty good timeline

"Huntara", the ep where they actually became friends for real and Hordak got his armor change, that was 135 days after they started working together in "Signals". Then give it a couple of weeks before "Moment of Truth".

Beast Island was AT LEAST six months bare minimum, Prime's Invasion (the time Scorpia and Perfuma knew each other) was 3 months bare minimum, both were most likely longer.

It's hard to estimate. Some stories take place a couple eps apart, like "The Sword" and "Flowers for She-ra", and then Adora will try to use a code that "hasn't been in use for MONTHS" and that's supposed to imply shes been gone for months?

But yeah with Entrapta and Hordak in particular they absolutely spent more time ripped apart than working together. They were only just figuring out the shape of their friendship. Scorpia and Perfuma were also ripped apart before they could make sense of what their relationship was either.

But I actually really like that, because these characters were impacted so strongly by that brief time they were connecting, it had basically changed them. They both try to go back to how things were before they became friends - Entrapta isolating herself with tech in the portal and on the island, Hordak hiding in his lab then trying to be a good boy for Prime - and they can't stand it. By their standards it would've been bliss for them at the start of the show, but now it feels so empty. And even though they have painful reason to believe their friendship was fake, or it’s an obstruction in the way of greater plans, they can’t let it go. They spend the rest of the show trying to connect with other people (Bow, Catra), and seeking each other out. They don't need to know what their connection is in order to understand it's there.

As for Perfuma and Scorpia, what I really love about this relationship is Perfuma can see the value in Scorpia that nobody else really acknowledged before. Yeah, Scorpia was loved by Catra and Entrapta, but those two weren't able to---- okay maybe I shouldn't have mentioned them because I'm actually angry at Scorpia's lack of good interactions with them in season 5. But my point is that Perfuma was put-together and assertive enough to be the missing half of Scorpia, to REALLY support her and give her encouragement for how hard she's been working for her friends this whole time. And likewise, Scorpia is the symbol of tolerance and love that had been missing from Perfuma. 

So yeah, as "undefined" as these relationships are, theyre still really good. I can see why everyone would jump on them.

I mean, you also have word of god pairing them together, what can people say against that? Of course the fans will ship them if the Showrunner is suggesting they hook up. Not that I'm particularly interested in Word of God since it can be bad, wrong, and overruled.
