Tuned into the Grammy's for a bit & it was honestly the reminder I needed on why I don't tune into these things.

Funny thing is that there's legit info out in the world on how the Oscar's work & how it has nothing to to with the movies & everything to do with the money, branding & merchandise (sent over to the members of the academy who usually do not watch the movies at all & are often v open about it 🙃) & we still somehow as a society treat it as some sort of indicator.

Haven't looked into the inner Grammy's workings too close but it's probably a twin situation.

Even 'fair' awards would be controversial in most categories -with art being so subjective. But man oh man why would we ever trust a bunch of members of an American organization made up of super-privileged & out-of-touch folks to - of all people - tell us what music is actually "the best" 🫠

Here's the thing. I'm in a red state, in a county that went red.

I knew that when I moved out here four years ago. (Yes, it was April 2020 and no, I do not recommend moving during a global pandemic.) I accepted that that would be part of it. I made my peace with it, and I do what I can to mitigate the effects.

I'm not scared for me (minus the bodily autonomy thing since my state now has a 12 week abortion ban, and the general fuckery of facists in power) because tbh, I'm white and cis-het passing.

I'm nonbinary and bisexual. Can't tell any of that unless I tell you, and I don't make it well well known. I use she/her at work, wear skirts and dresses, and respond to Mrs/Ms Gemma or Hale (actually folks use my legal first or last name 😉); though Dr. is preferred if I get the choice.

I fly under the radar as a quirky white woman. I'm relatively "protected."

In the wake of the election results rolling out, I'm apprehensive for:

Kallen, who is white-passing Cherokee and a disabled veteran. I've been party to how he's treated differently than I am - by the same checker at the store not more than 5 minutes apart. He moved out here after I established my career, so he had little to no input of where we moved to (other than "I want to be with you.")

My coworkers who already face harassment for being POC in the community (including foreign exchange students that come to do part of their PhD here because of the proximity to the university system). People have been chased out of their positions here due to the racism they've experienced.

My coworkers who would seek to have an abortion (I'm included in this myself).

The LGBTQ+ community here (remember - I'm not out out).

The immigrant and POC communities here

And folks beyond my immediate viscinity

A lot of the community operates on a "mind your shit" basis. But I have to look people in the eye with Trump 2024 caps on and answer their questions politely. I have to drive by trucks with religious bumper stickers and greet them and give them scientifically sound information.

I wanted to believe in a world that valued competency and skill; and then I remember: I was the only one that applied to this job in the boondocks, and we've struggled to get positions filled out here. And I know part of it is not because of the low cost of living or lack of proximity to major shopping centers/social options. 🙃

I'm poking around into what local groups I can get into and donate my time to. My job puts me in direct access with food security resources, so that's probably where I'll start. Perhaps tie into the LGBTQ community because I know there's an active group out here. (I want to get more involved in the community anyway.)

I have to swallow this fear I have of being connected to causes while in my position. Yes, my employer is technically neutral ground, but that doesn't mean I have to be. I am allowed to be civically involved, as long as I make it clear when I am working in a work capacity (branded gear, name tag, etc.) and as a private citizen.

I admittedly got spooked when I received a few letters (to my private address, mind you) stating that I was a poor representative of my institution because I didn't maintain my yard like I should when I first started. (It was a whole thing and got escalated up higher than it needed to and yeah. I still have those letters in my office.)

But folks are starting to know me, and I'm starting to know them too. I need to cast this fear I have aside and be true to my values - accessibility, inclusivity, equity, and justice.

Ok, so initially, it's supposed to be I'm supposed to answer with one OCs, but instead, I'm going to answer this with Lucie and Valerie's perspectives and see how it goes. What is your opinion of mythology?

Lucie: "They're scary...! I mean, haven't you heard of those stories where the Spirit Dragon apparently goes and wrecks the whole world...?"

Valerie: "Err, no?" But she lets out a laugh as she goes and "You should really say that to my brother, he will state every single reason on why that is wrong." She goes and shakes her head, as a light-hearted smile curves her face. "Not interested in it, maybe to the point I hear it on the occasion, by him saying stuff about the powers of light and dark are supposed to join with Spirit and what not, but for him to say that it's real...!? I mean, come on Braedon...!"

L: "For it to be real..." She starts to tremble. "That's the last thing I hope would happen."

Do you get sea sick?

Valerie: "Oh wow... You're making me think of something. Like Uncle Maggie used to always take me out to practice rowing when we were younger. Even when there were times where my uncle had duties with the throne and those sorts of things, he would always take me out on practicing how to row at least once a week." She goes and taps the side of her chair as her left ear droops down, "But nowadays, he hasn't really been doing it as much anymore."

Lucie: How lucky...! I never went on a boat. Well, except a few times, but I don't really remember feeling sick or anything... So I guess no?

If you could live anywhere, where would you pick?

Lucie: I'd go to where Pyrocast is! I think they also called it Volcanica or the fire castle! For some reason, I can't help but want to go there. And, I mean, I nearly did...!" She glances away from the "But, I don't think I'll be able to go back there again..." Valerie stares towards Lucie as her brow raise and the corner of her mouth tenses. She swings her arm outwards.

Valerie: Well, I can't complain about Pyrocast, and Blazica as a whole, they have lots of cool things like steam trains and snow and fireworks...! But I mean, come on, if it is anywhere I could go, I would definitely not go and reside at Seafall! I mean, it's nice there but the Queen there has a BIG attitude problem. Like yeah, I may have paraded around, and it look like I was nearly going to eat the fishes while also causing a bit of an explosion at the Queen's place, but..."

L: "You would do that in front of a Queen...!?"

V: "Hey...! Don't judge! She has a problem!" Valerie lets out a low breath, when she gives a smile, "I would love to see how Gustinflew is like, but I also heard that the ruler of Aeromount doesn't really like when the boats are on their shores, and apparently confiscates those boats. So, it's a shame. Maybe Alalingamor would be a close second. Yeah, it either gets extremely hot or cold depending on the day, but you have all of those festivals at night, you've got great guests, and what more can you ask for?

I'm also so grateful that I can be open about my mental health here. I do my best to tag it, and "keep reading" the heavy or in depth stuff, but it is so lovely. I used to be incredibly open and outspoken about mental health awareness, and would discuss my diagnoses publicly (even did some keynote speaking about it), but that was before I got my BIG diagnoses 3-4 years ago, and with my current job, I haven't felt comfortable speaking openly about it. It makes me pretty dang grumpy.

Unfortunately there's still a lot of stigma surrounding Bipolar and OCD. I've been open about PTSD and ADHD, but haven't felt safe enough to share the others.

Thank you for letting me have space for this, it means the world to me!

It's rough out here.

I already have a hard time doing things. ANY things. Executive dysfunction with ADHD is one of the biggest struggles I've dealt with my entire life.

Right now though, it's all piling up. Friends and loved ones texts and calls. Random life tasks and responsibilities. Work tasks put off (and my company falling apart isn't helping me with that motivation 😩). Job hunting is not happening as it should.

My physical health is not great right now, and it's making it more difficult for me to want to participate in the outside world.

I have a feeling I'm in another mixed episode (a lovely cocktail of mania and depression 🙃). The intense hyperfixation that is going beyond the adhd levels, plus the espresso depresso times point to that.

Or maybe I'm just focusing on the thing that is bringing me comfort and joy during this difficult time.

Either way, all I want to do is write. I'm working with my therapist on pushing myself back into doing other things in the world. I'm going to visit family this weekend. I'm slowly, slowly getting there.

But honestly, I'm just so grateful to have this right now. To have these stories, to have people read them and enjoy them, and talk to me about them. I've never had a hobby or hyperfixation that was so rewarding, healing, or this long term. I know that I would not be doing well with my current circumstances if I didn't have these stories running through my brain everyday, and the satisfaction of capturing and sharing them.

Life sucks (not always, lol 🙃), but we find the things that make it bearable. That give us some joy.

Right now, that's Cross Guild smut & angst 😅

THANK YOU for talking abut this bc i agree bloodbound is a refreshing take on vampires and like you said i think having a jewish lead writer was big part of the reason it handled the genre with care given the many antisemitic tropes usually ingrained in it.

i was disappointed the other choices vampire book (immortal desires idk if you read it) didn't take a similar direction with the the lore because imo it lacked some reflection on the antisemitism front. ie there they have vampire creators who are some kind of ancient vampire illuminati who want to rule the world and feed off other vampires for power or sth. and i saw the fandom refer to it as "the superior vampire lore" and thought like 🙃🔫

bloodbound is so very clearly a jewish writer's book and it's why i love it so much. apart from the obvious with vampires being somewhat an ethnoreligious group what with them being descended from a priestess/goddess, being the chosen and gifted people of their goddess, and the posturing of the order as CLEARLY being nazis/neo-nazis/christian and other religious extremist groups/just general reflection of antisemitism and racism throughout the years especially in europe .. the details the series goes into is so good? like yes you're all part of this marginalized group but there's factions and inequality and the integration and rebellion against the status quo and the religious vs the the irreligious and the question of extreme ethnonationalism and ethnocentrism.. it all just speaks so much about the writer's approach and experience, especially andrew's as a jewish man who grew up in the ussr. (disclaimer ofc: i'm not jewish myself, i grew up very much catholic, so these are my own observations from what i've learned about the topic & history)

a scene that really stood out to me on that regard was the tapestry scene in book 1 where gaius and kamilah first meet. they bound gaius in chains and he reveals that silver chains don't do shit, fully rejecting the trope that vampires are weak to silver. and when you look into it that aspect of vampires born out of christian-fuelled antisemitism, with silver being seen as a pure element, and of course it doesnt do shit to vampires in bloodbound because they are not abomination, they are not unholy - they're literally blessed by the gods! i just love the amount of care and detail put into this series. andrew has been outspoken about how horror and monsters can be rife with antisemitism but with the right care can be done well, and it really showed in bloodbound!

as for immortal desires, i've played a few chapters but have yet to finish it. i'll check it out after i finish my bloodbound replay, but from what i've seen in the tags so far and from what you're saying it seems so different from the approach with bloodbound so i'm not as optimistic going into it.. bloodbound will always be top tier to me in terms of vampire lore so immortal desires has a big task. also i'm not really swayed by both LIs vs in bloodbound where i think all the LIs and characs in general are wonderful and interesting on their own (also i just lowkey don't care for high school anymore unless its ILITW). but let's see.

Hi! I'm JellyBean. I suck at asking for help. I'm a problem solver with control issues, so when things are out of my control, I struggle with it. (Definitely gonna be the topic of today's therapy session.)

My story is pretty run of the mill. Single mom, kid with AuADHD, I have severe Ptsd and Cptsd as well as a host of other mental issues, and my therapist and I are discovering that my son came by his Autism naturally. (My bad? /jk) I'm also chronically ill. I have 11 specialists all trying to figure out why and it's a trip and a half 🙃.

I have one car. A 2004 beat up Ford and it's has two failing head gaskets. I don't have enough in my savings to put down a down payment yet. But I'm trying.

3 months ago I opened my Regression Shoppe in hopes of funding my hobbies and passions in a world where doing that is too expensive. But now I need help. I need to sell as much as I can to be able to afford a new car so I can still get to therapy, so my son can get to his physical therapy, speech, occupational therapy, and therapy as well as our assorted doctors appointments...

2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?

2,436,430 words (jfc hahah)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Ever? Listing them in vague order of when I started writing for them: Supergirl, Wynonna Earp, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Grace and Frankie, This Way Up, Once Upon a Time, Madre Solo hay Dos (just on Tumblr), Abbott Elementary, Hacks, and Julia

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

ALL of them are Supergirl from back in the early-ish days of the show when it was a pretty massive (by femslash standards, I suppose) and very active fandom! It's actually so interesting seeing how absolutely nothing I've written in more than half a decade even shows up, since I've largely switched to smaller fandoms since then.

But the top 5 fics by kudos are:

Stronger Together, a collection of one-shots for various Supergirl ships (with a few gen fics mixed in), which has nearly 5k kudos (WILD to me as someone now in a fandom with maybe 25 people total haha)

Welcome to the Gayborhood, my first ever fic, a looong Sanvers and Supercorp professor AU that still keeps the alien/supernatural elements of canon

6,500 miles away...but getting closer, a Sanvers epistolary fic that my wife and I actually co-wrote and posted 1 letter/email per day every day for many months

Noise Complaint, a Sanvers next-door neighbor AU that, hilariously, given its placement in the top 5 here, is what catalyzed a series of events that led to me very much leaving the fandom (and fandom writ large for nearly a year)

Supercat Sanvers 2020, a Sanvers and Supercat political AU that was maybe one of the last long-form works I wrote before moving out of DC!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I really try to! Sometimes if it's from a person I know well, I end up responding via DMs, esp if there are questions about what comes next, plotting elements, etc., that I don't necessary want everyone to see while the fic is still being posted, but mostly I try to respond on AO3. I've gotten a bit worse in the past few years just because I'll manage to eke out a bit of time to write, which puts me behind on my work, and then I don't leave myself time to respond, and by the time I DO have time, it feels awkwardly late to do so. But even if I don't respond, I absolutely love/cherish/adore/etc. every single kind comment I've ever been given <3

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Forgoten, but not Gone - a Sanvers amnesia AU set post-breakup that's heavy on the angst with a rather ambiguous ending. I got talked into writing a part 2 that resolves the angst haha, but taken on it's own it's definitely my angstiest ending!

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Huh idk! Most of my fics end on fairly happy, if a bit open, endings. I'm not a big fan of having all the loose ends tied up, and I realllyyyy don't do the marriage/2 kids/white picket fence epilogue, so I guess maybe the political AU has to be up there because it actually envisions a world where a queer woman wins the presidency on a progressive platform, and that feels rather utopian 🙃

8. Do you get hate on fic?

Not in a while, though I used to back in the days, like super vitriolic shit (big fandoms with too-big emotions, man... which has really kept me away maybe forever from those kinds of fandoms!)

9. Do you write smut?

Haha very much so. I've written and posted before about why, but I really believe there's so much interesting character work and exploration that can be done by exploring characters' pleasures, their desires (both thwarted and realized), their fantasies, etc. Obviously smut isn't the only way to do this, but fanfic feels like one of the few venues where it's a real possibility!

10. Do you write crossovers?

Nah, not really. I've written a handful of bring characters x and y into the universe of another show fics, but that feels mostly different. Every so often I'll borrow vague character outlines for tertiary characters in other fics just to see if folks recognize them (had Grace Hanson as a grumpy background character in a Sanvers fic set at PT for instance hah)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Once or twice, but we got them taken down

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yeah, one of my SG fics was translated into Russian! I'm not sure if it's still up (tbh I can't recall which one; it's been a long time!) I've also had a couple podfics now made of my fics, one of which I still need to go listen to when I get the time!!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yeah! The long-form Sanvers epistolary fic my wife and I co-wrote together, and a group of Supercat authors got together and did a delightfully chaotic round robin, each writing one sentence, then setting a timer for the next person to write the next sentence, etc., until we had Intergalactic Standard Cuddling

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

Oh man, I really don't know that I have a favorite! I really appreciate what various ships can offer me at different times - there are certain themes that make sense to explore with one pairing but not at all with another, or certain AUs that work in one fandom but not really in another. Basically, if a show is giving me multiple female characters who interact in canon in ways that go beyond existing near each other, I'm intrigued, and if these characters actually get depth and complexity, I'm probably in! There are, however, some ships that I might not end up feeling fannish/creative about even though I love them as ships (I talked a lot to @trying-to-get-somewhere-real about this recently, actually!), so it's hard to name a favorite when the metrics get all wonky!

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?

I don't want to say never, but I have a Cat-centric fic that'll end on Supercat that just has a lot of angst that coincided with a period of unexpected loss and grief in my own life in ways that have made it really hard to get back into even now (it just feels so...enmeshed with that moment, even though the timing was utterly coincidental)

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I do a good job with dialogue and getting characters' voices down - I'm really into the character side of things (which is also what gets me invested fannishly in shows! I want a show that cares about developing their characters first and foremost vs. a show where plot takes priority)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Certain kinds of action scenes haha - also I tire easily of writing things that feel repetitive to things I've done/written before (this was more of an issue when I took prompts)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Largely, this isn't something I've had to deal with much outside of maybe a few phrases and sentences from multilingual characters. I've talked before about how it was actually the language/translation barrier that kept me from writing for Madre Solo hay Dos. I don't speak Spanish, and getting a show entirely via the Netflix-provided translations meant 1) I was fairly certain there were some word choice/dialect peculiarities I was missing, and 2) I couldn't catch the rhythms of their speech, the cadence of their voices at least in ways that corresponded to the specific words. For me, voice matters so much, and it really felt like a barrier to not have access to the source language because I felt like I couldn't do these two women justice!

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Oh I've answered this elsewhere with 2-3 works, and tbh I don't think it's changed since then! I'm actually far more interested in others' favorite fics of mine because it's so interesting to think about the question of *what* sticks with a person from yours (it's often so idiosyncratic!!)

What's your resolution for your simblr?

I'd like to keep stuffs organized on my blog, but without it blocking me. I have a tendency to want things to be perfectly put in its place and realize later on that I take more time organizing than actually play the game.

Another resolution: I should really do whatever I want and post whatever, even if I'm kinda scared I'm a bother and don't get many likes/reblogs. I love posting lookbooks and wish to give credit where it's due but I'm also thinking that I'm annoying cc creators who are used to getting tagged. 🙃 But I guess they would tell me to stop otherwise. 👀

I also wish to speak more with other simmers! I definitely should go more in the DMs and communicate with more of you because y'all are amazing and I love everyone's sims stories. (But I'm a shy bean.)

What do you want from the sims franchise?

Fairies and medieval themed pack would be awesome! I also liked the idea of bands, and more music instruments. I'm super annoyed the singer career does not exist and tbh, while people bought City Living for its apartments and festivals, I bought it for the singing skill. But I wouldn't mind seeing this skill going base game.

I mainly want bands to have more hobbies and activities! I watched EnglishSimmer's wishlist for 2024 video, and I really like the idea of being able to plan things weekly that are not just festivals. Or at least events that are like how the star accolades work, tied to a community lot but happen regularly. I don't know if the community center's classes are a thing but I have yet to see it.

Mainly I wish for a basegame overhaul and updates on cross pack compatibility (especially with the GT clubs system). I also want more consequences on my actions but I can always dream.

I wish for more worlds that are not just American-based worlds and have at least a 64x64 in it (or 50x50). Not that I don't like american worlds, but I just want a change of scenery especially when to me sims 4 is pretty aesthetics in priority.

Any other new year's resolution?

I'm not a New Year resolution type of person, but I do have some for very soonish: get my license driver, try not be anxious calling the municipal swimming pool to get their prices and set up a swimming routine with my friend. 😇 even more crochet! Even if I don't find any use to it. I will probably. Maybe. I also wish to make friends but I need to go out and just in general, I need to not be scared of approaching people/socialize. 🙃 (yes irl but not only)

I feel like the pinned post I made with links to all my writing is too long and messy as hell but I'm not sure how else to organize everything in an easy to access (even if it's just for myself) directory since my tags don't work 🙃

I might mess around later and create specific ones for each fandom and see if that works? Also there's some stuff I don't want to link bc they're just so old, I feel like I enjoy looking back at those fics but they're also not quite a reflection of my writing now so idk

also in making that post I realized just how many drabbles, specifically for dragon age, that I have and never posted but quite enjoy and am not sure whether I want to put those out into the world or not because they are very much that, drabbles, and don't have any concrete structure so... idk

Lurk all you want. The worst someone can do is block you.

It's perfectly okay if your blog doesn't exist for the sole purpose of supporting each and every artist of every single post that appeals to you.

Your blog doesn't belong to them.

And I'm saying this as a blog that primarily actively reblogs art and only uses likes for organization.

People get so hung-up over reblogs being better than likes.

Like it's such a necessity for all the new users to "learn how tumblr works"...

Do they stop to consider that maybe someone just wants to exist on an anonymous public platform without a stranger on the internet telling them what to do?

If new users care about tumblr etiquette they can learn it easily enough without 'Well actually' posts talking down to them.

Y'all seem all too quick to blame the people who barely just got here for not supporting artists enough...

Just a suggestion,

but how about you blame platforms and their exploitative marketing and censorship practices for screwing over the content creators they depend on to keep their companies afloat,

rather than random individual users with new accounts who, contrary to popular opinion, still don't owe you a thing?

After watching Risk/Strikeback for the who-knows-how-many-nth time, I just noticed something.

So Nino doesn't believe Adrien doesn't want to go because he figures his best friend would tell him, right?

Well that's good logic, except this is after Rocketear, where Adrien saw Nino react negatively to Cat Noir, the version of himself where he gets to actually express his feelings.

Even with the misunderstanding with him and Alya, it had to have hurt to see how Nino really felt, just like it was with Kagami.

So of course he doesn't tell Nino his true feelings. After what happened this season, he feels like he can't trust anyone (he even considers it a risk when he tells Marinette).

This makes it even worse that it becomes increasingly apparent to him that Ladybug doesn't trust him. Because she's the only one he feels like he can be himself around.

He's felt more alone than ever this season.

But then Ladybug has a full-on panic attack right in front of him, and because he's Adrien, he finally gets to see past the brave face she puts on, and her constant frustrations with Cat Noir, to the incredible pressure the girl he still loves is under.

He's never seen her fall apart like this. He immediately snaps into focus, talking her through it. And when she realizes she lost and collapses in despair, the look on his face when he decides to go in and comfort her says it all.

He was right to be upset at how she was treating him, and finally she acknowledges this, but he'd never abandon her. And now that it's just the two of them against the world all over again, his unwavering support and devotion is what finally gets through to her.
