"Can you teach me to read?" Strawberry Cream Cookie asked quietly. His clear and gentle voice, like a bell, carried a note of hope.
The Holiday Cookie inched a little closer to him on the floor as Jay bashfully hid his face in the book he was studying. Strawberry Cream wanted him to teach him of all people? Jay did want to help but...
"I… I don't know, Strawberry Cream Cookie." He muttered uncertainly. He kept his eyes on the pages of his book so he didn't have to look at Strawberry Cream Cookie directly. The fox-like Cookie stared at him curiously, his big grey eyes trying to read his face and expression as he waited for the answer. "I wish I could help… but I'm not the best teacher," Jay answered sadly. Strawberry Cream Cookie didn't miss a beat.
"I think you're really smart, Baker." He said, his eyes finally leaving Jay's face, and trailing down to his lap almost bashfully. "If you and Stollen Cookie helped me study, I could pass the exam." Strawberry Cream Cookie replied.
"Well… If I helped, you would fail for sure." Jay tried to joke lightly, but Strawberry Cream Cookie just stared at him, the self-deprecating humour going over his head.
"Why?" He asked with a tilt of his head.
"U-Uh… I-I- because..!" Jay stammered nervously, unable to come up with an excuse. He quickly clammed up, and his face flushed in embarrassment. Jay hid in his book. "I… it's because…" He whined quietly in frustration.
He was getting way too comfortable with these Cookies. There was no way Jay could let it slip about his "problem," it was way too embarrassing to admit. Especially since Strawberry Cream Cookie said that he thought he was smart.
"J-Just… because. I can't." Jay finished weakly. Strawberry Cream Cookie stared at him and blinked. He scooted closer, his shoulder pressing against Jay's in a small act of reassurance.
"You… can tell me. I promise I won't tell anyone." He said quietly. Jay paused and stared at Strawberry Cream Cookie over the top of his book uncertainly, attempting to find some fault in his face. Still, the Holiday Cookie's eyes only held patience and curiosity.
Jay sighed and glanced around sheepishly. The landing of the stairwell where they had retreated to study was empty and quiet. No other Cookies or teachers were around. Well, if there was one Cookie he could tell his secret that would understand his struggles, it would be Strawberry Cream Cookie.
"Ok… just don't laugh, alright?" Jay mumbled. Strawberry Cream Cookie's ears perked in surprise.
"I would never laugh at you…" He replied softly. These words caused Jay to blush, and his heart began to race. Anxiously, he swallowed and mustered the courage to speak.
"I- actually… u-uhm… I-I actually have a learning disability. I… have trouble reading, spelling, and doing math too." Jay admitted meekly. "S-So-! Don't feel bad for struggling, c-cause I get it!" He stuttered. Strawberry Cream Cookie's eyes widened in surprise and he looked back at Jay, but he remained silent. His expression made Jay's stomach twist with anxiety, immediately making him regret saying anything at all. After what felt like forever, Strawberry Cream Cookie slowly nodded in understanding.
"… We're alike." He whispered, turning away from Jay, hiding the blush dusting his cheeks. "We both struggle a lot." Strawberry Cream Cookie said.
"Yeah, I guess so." Jay chuckled awkwardly to try to lighten the mood and soothe his own anxiety.
"But… despite that, you're still so smart. I still want you to help me study. You understand what it's like." Strawberry Cream Cookie went on. The distant droning of voices further in the school did nothing to drown his soft voice echoing through the quiet landing of the stairwell. Strawberry Cream Cookie turned slightly toward Jay, locking eyes with him. His warm, gray eyes shimmered with sincerity as he gently placed his hand on Jay's and gave it a tender squeeze. Jay's face grew redder by the second but he was unable to look away from Strawberry Cream Cookie's affectionate gaze.
"Please…?" Strawberry Cream Cookie pleaded softly. "We can learn together." He said. Strawberry Cream Cookie's eyes softened as he gazed at Jay, smiling at him as he watched Jay's face flush even darker than before. It was as if he saw something sweet behind Jay's embarrassed expression. It made Strawberry Cream Cookie chuckle softly and Jay's heart fluttered in his chest.
Jay couldn't resist any longer and pouted shyly, tearing his eyes away from Strawberry Cream Cookie's expectant look. "Ok, ok… I'll help." Jay sighed. "You can stop giving me puppy-dog eyes now." He said. Strawberry Cream Cookie smiled brightly at him and Jay felt his heart skip a beat at the sight.
"Thank you, Baker." Strawberry Cream Cookie replied gratefully. The fox-like Cookie wasted no time cuddling up against Jay's side and resting his chin on his shoulder, peering at the book in his hands. Jay blushed and tried to focus on the words on the page rather than Strawberry Cream Cookie's closeness.
"U-Uh… yeah. No problem." Jay answered hesitantly. "I-I guess we can start by me reading to you. It's easier to get the hang of pronouncing words when you hear them spoken out loud first." He suggested. Strawberry Cream Cookie nodded eagerly in agreement. Jay adjusted his position, moving closer to Strawberry Cream Cookie for comfort, and positioned the book so they both could see as he began reading aloud. Strawberry Cream Cookie listened intently to Jay's voice and followed along silently, mouthing the words as Jay spoke. Even when Jay stuttered or had trouble pronouncing a word, he continued to listen attentively and carefully. Strawberry Cream Cookie was mesmerized.
Jay was surprised at how easy it was to do this with Strawberry Cream Cookie, especially since he usually got embarrassed and disheartened when he often messed up while speaking. They were so different and yet somehow so similar at the same time. It was like Strawberry Cream Cookie knew exactly what Jay needed. It made Jay feel warm inside, and it warmed his heart whenever he thought of how caring and understanding Strawberry Cream Cookie was.

ᯓ. ⊹ cuddles w/ yushi 𖹭 !!
cuddles and kisses with your boyfriend yushi who comes home late <3
a/n; wrote this last night (right after i wrote supernova love so might not be good either) not proofread
yushi x gn!reader
no cws!! fluff, sfw
wc: 789
11:38pm.
youre sitting on the couch in your living room, eariler today your boyfriend, yushi, had texted you saying hes flying back to korea after finishing up the last tour date in japan.
its been a while since youve last seen him, since youve last hugged him. you miss him.
watching tv waiting for yushi to come to your apartment. shouldnt he be here by now? he hasnt texted you since he told you he's boarding the plane, ehich was 7 hours ago. maybe hes still busy. when he comes back, you promise to yourself to make sure he feels loved.
as time slowly passes by, you begin to feel tired. normally you would be in bed sleeping at this time, but youre forcing yourself to stay up. to greet him. grabbing the blanket beside you, covering yourself and lifting your knees up to your chest, warpping your arms around your knees, you could almost fall alseep in this position. you decide to take a nap. the door is unlocked, so anyone could walk in at any moment, but you live in a safe area. the only person who woukd be walking in wohld be yushi.
slowly closing your eyes, falling alseep with the faint noise of the tv in the background.
feeling a pair of arms wrap around you has you slowly open your eyes. realizing its yushi, you lean into your boyfriend who is sitting besidd you on the couch. "what time is it?" you slur your words from being too tired. closing your eyes again.
"its 1:27am.. im sorry for being so late" yushi says, his voice barely above a whisper. kissing your forehead he lifts you up, princess style. like how a father would when they realize their kid is sleeping in the car, so their only choice is to carry them to their bed.
feeling comfortablr in your boyfriends arms you hold onto him, smiling. he brings you to your rooms, laying you down softly on your bed. covering you up in the sheets, then laying down beside you.
you turn to face yushi, wrapping your arms around his neck, while his hands find his way to your lower back.
"yushi, i missed you so much" tears welling up in your eyes
"i missed you too y/n" leaning in to kiss your cheek. you want to be closer to him. you hide your face in his chest, throwing your left leg over his legs. still not close enough.
the two of you staying in this position, eventually falling asleep in each others arms.
7:19am
waking up, the first thing you see is yushis beautiful face. how can a man look so perfect? how did you get so lucky to have him all to yourself. he must be so tired with his busy schedule.
not wanting to wake him up but still wanting to be closer to him, you inch your way towards him as you both move a lot in your sleep. pressing your hands and face up against his chest. yushi feeling this, slowly waking up.
"good morning" his morning voice. its been a while since youve heard it. looking up to him smiling "good morning handsome" pecking his lips.
yushi not liking how short that was, moves one of his hand to the back of your head and the other softly on your cheek, he brings your face closer to his. kissing you, a real kiss.
"its been a while since we've seen each other and all you give me is a weak peck?" yushi playfully teases
making eye contact with your boyfriend, you can feel your heart beating out of your chest.
he just brings you closer, going in for another kiss. laughing in between each kiss, he guides you on top of him. straddling him while hes still laying down. his hands run along your back, going no farther down then your lower back while still kissing you.
"i missed being like this, i love you y/n" yushi says releasjng his lips from yours, letting you lay down on top of him, arms holding you in place.
"i love you too yushi" you say kissing his neck once, staying in this position for a while. the both of you wanting to cherish this moment before you both have to get up and get ready for the day. before he leaves you for a while again. because hes an idol, your relationship has to be on the low. it pains you knowing youre in a relationship, but the public cant know that he belongs to you. and youre his. youll make sure to photograph this memory of yushi in your mind

✰ Shared Thoughts ✰
A Francis Mosses x GN!reader, chapter 1
Warnings: Gets steamy but no smut, no pronouns for reader but afab anatomy is used, francis calls reader ‘darling’, he also pleads for like one sentence ik you guys like that, not proofread <3 this is so bad and so self-indulgent i'm so sorry
Word Count: 1.7k
The tenant grumbled, barely keeping open your tired eyes, latching onto your ID and entry request as you waited for your turn to be interrogated just so you could be let into your own home. For a while, you thought the precaution was stupid until you experienced a “code red” for yourself. Typically, you were amongst the last to arrive at the apartment building, considering you worked late nights, almost every night. You didn’t mind it, really, as you had lots of free time living alone, so that meant you were home during the early hours of the day when most tenants had left and wouldn’t return home for a few more hours, and by that time, you’d be gone yourself.
You knew today would be especially tough entering the building, as you were called in to work suddenly, so you couldn’t put in a request in time to be put onto the list for today. Once it was your turn, your trudged along to the window, passing in your papers through the metal slit.
“Why aren’t you on the list?” The doorman asked, brows furrowed, clearing searching for any signs the tenant was a doppelgänger. “Got called into work suddenly, wasn’t able to put my name on the list.” You explained, voice as monotone as ever. The doorman nodded, checking over a few things and making a phone call, before finally letting the tenant in. You gave a small thanks, grabbed your papers back, and walked through the door. Sighing, you stepped into the elevator, ready to press the “four” button. As you stepped back against the elevator, all your thoughts and anxieties began surfacing, most of them being of doppelgängers. What if the doorman let in one, killing us all? You didn’t doubt their abilities, but the thought always crossed your mind, with how often the alarm went off. The elevator stopped with a ding! on the second floor, letting in another tenant of the building, Francis Mosses.
You thought of yourself as fairly close with Francis. A lot closer than the typical tenants are with the others. You two enjoyed each other's company, giving small hello’s as you passed by, small talk exchanged whenever he’d deliver the milk you’d ordered. There were a few times, as well, where you hung out at the other’s place, your shared exhaustion over your careers being a driving factor in the start of your friendship. Now and then, in the pits of night, you found your mind drifting to the thoughts of Francis. How his bicep flexed as he lifted up the milk carrier, his button-up shirt tightening ever so slightly around his arms and elbow, leaving little to the imagination. Or how his sensual, monotone voice sent shivers down your spine. But your relationship was purely platonic of course. These feelings would never be acted upon nor would they be reciprocated… “Hello…? Earth to Y/N?” You were snapped out of your thoughts as the familiar voice filled your ears. “Huh? Oh, sorry…” You mumbled, chuckling awkwardly. “Just.. tired from work.” I was totally not thinking about you… You could feel the blood rushing to your cheeks, both out of embarrassment and just from him looking at you.
“Mmm… Okay…” Francis nodded, albeit suspiciously. You prayed he didn’t notice the blush, and if he did, won’t say anything about it. Hopefully, he was up for as much conversation as you were at the moment… God knows what you would do to just lay down and take a nap right here. You both stood in awkward silence, avoiding eye contact before Francis got off on the next floor. You breathed a sigh of relief, mentally berating yourself for allowing that to happen. Once the elevator stopped on your floor, you bolted out and headed immediately to your apartment. There was always something so eerie about the hallways that made you want to be in them as little as possible. You struggled a bit with inserting your keys into the keyhole, but eventually, they implied and allowed you in. Closing, and locking, the door behind you, you breathed out, not even aware you were holding your breath. You looked around your apartment, everything in the same place as it was before. Good. No doppelgängers have been in your home. The apartment was rather small, but that’s alright since you were the only person here. It was cozy that way. Trudging through the tiny hallway, you made it to your room, changing out of your work clothes and into some more comfortable ones. Immediately, you plopped down onto the bed and began drifting off to a dreamless sleep. …Was that the sound of the phone? Well, it’ll be alright…
After what felt like only a few minutes, you heard someone knocking at your door, rather quickly. Begrudgingly, you sat up and got out of your bed, combing through your hair with your fingers to try to smooth down any bed head that developed in the small frame of time you were sleeping. You stood up, attempting to make yourself slightly presentable. Making your way to the door, you glanced at your rotary phone which sat on a small table next to the couch. You paused for a moment, wondering if the ringing you heard was real, but shrugged, assuming it was nothing. You looked through the peephole of your door, spying the one and only Francis Mosses, at your door. He wasn’t in his usual milkman garb, but rather some common, everyday clothes. Quickly, you unlocked your door, opening it to greet Francis. “Oh, hello.” You gave him a soft smile, cocking your head slightly. “Are you off the clock?” “Yeah, my uh- my shift ended not too long ago.” He swallowed, nodding. “Wanted to check on you, you seemed real exhausted earlier.” “Well, you did just wake me from a life-saving nap, but that's alright.” You quip, giving him a smirk as you move out of the doorway, allowing him in.
“Oh, I’m- I’m sorry, I can go–” “No, no.” You shake your head, furrowing your brows. “Stay, please.” He smiled at you, seemingly relieved you didn’t let him go. Internally, you were screaming, he never showed up to your apartment unless you had a pre-planned hang-out session, or he was doing his rounds, delivering the milk. “Do you want anything? A snack, or…” You ask him, walking towards your tiny kitchen. “Oh, no, that won’t be necessary.” He said in that monotone voice that made your knees turn to jelly. Francis went and sat on the couch, you following close behind. “I, uhm.” He began, looking away. “I wanted to talk to you… I’ve been, thinking a lot. Since we talked in the elevator.” Oh fuck, he’s so creeped out by me, isn’t he, you panic internally, but barely manage to scrape together your composure. “Oh- I’m sorry, about that I–” You started before he interrupted you. “I’ve been thinking about… you specifically.” He gulped, causing your heart to race. “Now, you can slap me if you think I’m creepy or anything, but I’ve thought about just us in general for a while, long before the elevator. Y/N, I–” He grabbed your hand, looking you in the eyes, his own clouded with infatuation and something else you couldn’t quite make out. Before he could finish his sentence, you cupped his cheek with your free hand and kissed him with so much desperation your teeth clinked together. He was taken aback by this, not reciprocating, causing you to panic and think you misread the situation so you pulled back, breathing heavily. “Fuck, did I- Did I fuck that up? Oh my god, I’m so–” He cut you off with a kiss of his own, holding the back of your head with his hand, keeping his grasp on you as he kissed you with a lot more passion and less desperation than the first. Immediately, you kissed back, snaking your arms around his neck, smiling into the kiss. He broke the kiss first, to catch his breath. You smiled at him, letting out a small laugh. “You have no idea how long I’ve waited for that.” “Oh, but, I think I do,” Francis smirked, eyes darkening. “I’m a lot more perceptive than I think you realize. I’ve seen the glances you’ve stolen.” This caused you to blush and cover your face, burrowing into the crook of his neck. He maneuvered his head to give you a small kiss on your own, still smiling. “It’s cute, ‘loved knowing at least one person was paying attention to me.” He chuckled as you raised your head, still blushing fervently. He leaned in for another kiss, but this time it was much more needy, resting one hand on the nape of your neck and the other on your hip. Your hands entangled themselves in his hair, pulling your bodies as close together as possible.
“I’ve thought of you, so many nights.” You whispered between kisses. “Trust me, me too, darling.” Francis groaned, biting down on your lip. You decided to tease him and keep your mouth closed. In turn, Francis snaked the hand on your hip up under your shirt, causing shivers to be sent up your spine, as you moaned into the kiss, which Francis took as an opportunity to slip his tongue into your mouth, exploring every crevice he could, mapping and memorized the sensation. You tugged on his hair, causing a moan from him to vibrate through you as he explored the inside of your mouth, your arousal growing further in your core. He cupped your breast through your bra, causing you to break from the kiss for a moment and moan his name, him looking at you, pleadingly, for consent to go further. You gave him an over-enthusiastic “yes” just before you kissed him again, but before either of you could continue further on, a loud ring ran through your house, coming from the doorbell. Whimpering a little, disappointed you had to pause your wonderful makeout session with Francis Mosses, you stood up, smoothing out any wrinkles on your clothes. Heading towards the door, you ponder over who it could be. You knew you shouldn’t have any visitors today, and you certainly weren’t close enough with your other neighbors for a surprise one. As you leaned up to peek through the peephole, all you were met with were eyes just like your own, a face sculpted just like yours, with the most sinister smile plastered on. It was your doppelgänger.

would love if you could do prompt 1! especially if tav is being a hard ass and trying to keep pushing themselves hehe :3
Companions with an Exhausted Tav
Three posts in one week?? I’m truly on a roll. (Nah I was sick this week so I was off work for two days.)
Anyway here’s Shadowheart, Lae’zel, Karlach, Minthara, and Jaheira with a very sleepy (and stubborn) reader.
Shadowheart
You usually go to bed quite a bit later than Shadowheart, but luckily she’s never awake to realize just how late you’re staying up.
Until one night you push your luck a little too far. By the time you climb into bed next to her she pops her head up and notices the sun is already starting to rise.
“Love, have you been up all night?” She asks. You decline to answer, and luckily she’s too sleepy to push the matter, for now. You both fall back asleep.
You’re livid when you wake up to the noon sun and find the adventuring party had already left for the day. Without you.
You find Shadowheart polishing her spear, as she decided to stay back today as well.
You approach her, but she doesn’t even look up at you. “Good afternoon sleepyhead.”
“What the hell were you thinking not waking me up this morning?” you say, clearly aggravated.
She props the spear up next to her. “I did” she says, finally looking up at you. “If you’re too tired to get up the first time I wake you, you’re too tired to go adventuring. Now go lay back down. You clearly need a nap.”
You soften, immediately realizing your mistake. “I’m sorry. I guess I’m just…”
“Tired,” she finishes for you. “I know, love. Seriously, go back to bed. You’re so grumpy when you’re tired.”
“I’m not grumpy!” You protest. She morphs her face into an over exaggerated pout, and repeats your words in a mocking tone.
You can’t help yourself, so you laugh. “Whatever. I’ll go back to bed.”
Lae’zel
You wake up in a panic as you’re being roughly dragged across the ground by your ankles.
You flail and struggle against your captors strong hand, but you can’t get loose.
“Tskva! Stop doing that!” Lae’zel shouts. It’s only then you realize who your “captor” really is.
“Lae’zel?” You ask, confused. “What are you doing? Why are you dragging me across the- ow!” You shout as you’re dragged over a rock.
“Seems this is the only way to get you to bed,” she responds, unfazed by your outburst.
She only stops dragging you once you’re in your bed. You immediately sit up and try to escape.
She catches you and pushes you back down. “Lae’zeeel,” you groan exaggeratedly. “I was doing something important.”
“If it is important than you should be able to keep your eyes open while doing it,” she retorts.
Well fuck. She has you there. You have been having trouble focusing for the last couple hours. Maybe it is best if you just go to sleep.
You’re surprised when Lae’zel crawls into your bed beside you. She doesn’t usually stay the night. “What are you doing?” You ask.
“Sleeping. Just like you should be,” she answers. You sigh, thinking of all the crafty ways you could sneak past her once she goes to sleep.
She interrupts your thoughts with a “and if you think you’re sneaking out, you’ve got another thing coming.”
Karlach
You’re passed out over a desk when Karlach gets up for a little midnight snack.
“Oh love,” she sighs. It must be four in the morning. How long have you been up?
You wake up slightly and mumble something indecipherable. You can hardly lift your head up off the desk.
“Come on, let’s get you to bed,” she whispers, throwing your arms over her shoulders and picking you up.
You unconsciously nuzzle her neck and let out a soft “mmm” at the familiar scent of your lover.
She lays you down on her own bed, trying to keep you upright for long enough to get you out of your armor.
She tries to be quiet, not only to disturb you as little as possible, but also to not wake up the entire camp.
When you’re finally out of your armor, she realizes she can’t find your camp clothes. Eventually, she settles on giving you one of her shirts that’s way too big for you.
You smile and mumble something that may or may not have been a “thank you.”
She finally lays your head against the pillow and you snuggle into the soft sheets and warm shirt.
She crawls cautiously into bed next to you, trying not to wake you up.
She can’t quite tell if you’re awake or not when you climb up on her chest and mumble “mmm warm.”
Minthara
The thing about Minthara is she’s not going to argue with you about taking care of yourself.
You can eat when you’re hungry, sleep when you’re tired, and piss and when you need to piss because you’re an adult and you can take care yourself.
So when she catches you burning the midnight oil for the third night in a row she’s angry. Like more angry than you’d expected.
“Hold on, Minthara,” you say, knowing she about to make you go to bed. “I just need to finish th-“
“No.” You’re interrupted abruptly. “You’re going to bed and I’m not going to catch you out here like this again.”
“Minthara, there’s things that have to done-“
“They can wait till morning,” she interrupts again, trying to stay calm even as you’re testing her patience.
“Just let me-“
“You have to take care of yourself, Tav!” She shouts, finally loosing her temper. “This isn’t an endurance test, this is your life: the one you have chosen to share with me. And I will not have you squander it out here, night after night, robbing yourself of sleep.”
You sigh, taking her hand and pulling yourself to your feet. You don’t even realize how tired you are until you’re swaying trying to keep upright.
She picks you up unexpectedly. You would have never taken Minthara for the type to carry you to bed. She’s never carried you to bed before.
Still, you accept the rare affection and wrap your legs around her waist while your arms and head rest on her shoulder.
She gently lays you down on your bed and pushes your hair off your forehead before giving it a kiss.
She really does love you, and she’s doing her best here. You just gotta take care of yourself, okay?
Jaheira
“Am I going to have to set a bedtime for you like I do the children?” She half teases, surprising you as she approaches your half asleep body.
You groan as if she just woke you from deep sleep. “I’m awake, sorry what time is it.”
Jaheira smirks and bends down so she’s close to your face. “Well past your bedtime,” she teases before giving you a short kiss.
“But I haven’t finished-“
“You’re done,” she interrupts matter of factly. Clearly this isn’t up for debate.
You groan again and mumble “fine,” reaching your arms up for her to carry you to bed.
She laughs, grabbing you by the waist and throwing you over her shoulder. If you’re going to insist on her carrying you, you’re going to deal with her doing it like this.
She’s gentle when she lays you against the bed, crawling in next to you and wrapping her arms around you.
“Wait, so if it’s so late why are you up?” You ask.
She chuckles. “Don’t worry about it,” she answers before kissing you behind the ear and falling asleep.

Insecurities Part 4
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 ~
Buggy X Fem Reader
You were starting to calm down the closer you got to Gin’s house. You’d somehow made it home before sundown and were quite happy at the idea of taking over the later show for the night. As you walk in there is very clearly one thing that strikes you, “Benji what did you do to your hair!” It was a mess, he was already reckless with his hair, sometimes teasing it to go every which way. But right now, it was frizzy and very clearly haphazardly cut. One side was the length it was when you had left and then it abruptly got short, jaggedly getting longer around his head.
“Oops, thought you wouldn’t notice so quickly,” Benji beamed smiling up at you and even Azure snorted at the absurd thought, “I got in a lil trouble but it’s fine!” He reassured while spinning to show no other ailments besides the renegade hair.
You sigh going to Gin’s storage closest and grabbing a box with some stylist scissors, “Well I can’t have you going around like that, sit down.” You scold both of them over being reckless as you cut his hair into something much more manageable for the more reckless of the two boys.
You swipe some stray hair’s off Benji’s shoulder before asking them if they’d like to go home for the night. Gin wasn’t home yet but you’re sure he wouldn’t be worried knowing you were coming home today.
~~~
“Mistress Zazel! I’m glad to see you made if back safely, although a little earlier than planned,” You wave your hand as acknowledgement towards your bookkeeper Mertle but motion your head towards the boys in your arms. Despite them being 5 and rather large, you were still able to carry them with ease, one over each shoulder as they had started to fall asleep on the walk over, one after the other asking to be picked up before passing out. It was a little strange that they were asleep this early, they were used to staying up for the shows, but you assumed it was just a nap from the excitement of the day.
He bows his head before getting closer to talk to you, “It does seem like the boys have angered another person, He was asking about one of them today, although that was about an hour ago. So, I’m not sure if he’s still around” He whispered, opening doors to the sleeping quarters for you.
“Thank you for the warning, I’ll take care of it, also let the crew know I’ll be leading the show tonight” You whisper before heading to your apartmentlike quarters. You tuck both your boys into bed before heading out to look for the angry customer, most of the time people would calm down enough when you appeared in front of them to forget their transgressions, others demanding compensations, and depending on the situation sometimes a fight. You were happy to oblige most anyone’s concern, and were always thrilled for a fight, staying on land for so long had made you miss the sea and the battles that came with it.
You go towards the rehearsal tents, it’s where most people sent the angry customers to wait for you, looking for a disgruntled person. But after a while you couldn’t find anything and went to go prepare for the show. Nothing could take your mind off of stress more than preforming, it’s when you felt the freest. The lights, the costumes, the applause of it all.
Your boys were allowed to come with you every now and then, but only for special occasions. Most of the time it was the side acts and smaller shows that you allowed them to take part in. You’re sure this little sleep would only be a quick nap and hoped they’d wake up by the end of the show to meet you rather than go off causing mischief.
~~~
Buggy gave up looking for the boys after it was clear that every child he saw, was not imitating his look or making fun of his nose. He pulled his cloaks hood up and decided to buy a ticket for the main event. It had been a while since he’d seen another circus act, maybe he could scope out talent for his own crew. And this Zazel had become a bit of a hot commodity at the beginning of the Grand Line, most people called her show a celebration of making it safely into dangerous waters, and He was curious as to what so many people had been saying about it.
Sitting down in the middle of the crowd, where he thought he’d get the best view he looked around. It was certainly a stationary set-up; the building may give the look and feel of a tent but Buggy could see how the wooden supports and walls were hidden by fabric draping about. He looked up and towards the walls where there was walk ways high above everyone, lights and fixtures attached every couple of feet. He’d give it to them, the set up was truly ideal, it didn’t seem like there was a single bad seat in the house.
Before he could look around more the lights dimmed and a spotlight turned on in the center of the arena. Music had amped up the great reveal for there to be nothing, a missed cue. Amateur. The music took a dip and the spot light turned off before they began again, still nothing. Then, without a beat the music amped up, the spotlight flashing a bit before a woman falls from the ceiling in an aerial silk, barely missing the ground by inches. The wide smile evident on her face as she swon high in the air, jumping out without any supports much higher than any sane person would do. And yet Buggy was amazed to see her somehow fall gracefully and landing with barely any disruption to the sand on the ground.
Buggy’s breath hitches as she stands up and takes a few bows towards the crowds while applause and cheers go wild, “I am Mistress Zazel” the women stands straight up, both hands going into the air as lights go wild and other acts swing in view, or move around. So many small details grouping of people that no one could watch them all. And despite that, Buggy’s eyes were fixed on the woman, they were fixed on you, how you shined so brightly. “And this is my Dazzling Circus!”
The juggling of knives, fire eating, and trapeze had dazzled people enough that they forgot of the world outside as the show continued. The entire time Buggy focused on you, on your ringmaster costume with a top hat that had to have been clipped into your hair. He watched as you moved in your own dance on stage, around the people, hyping everyone up before getting into your own routine. The shoe’s you worn looking dangerously high yet fits your perfectly.
Soon enough the show was over and Buggy had realized he hadn’t seen anything else but you, but just as how you appeared on stage in a blink of an eye, you disappeared. He was one of the first people to stand up to leave, rushing to try and find you.
The crowds around making it hard to move he was getting angry. He breathed in, I know where she is. She can’t just leave, it’s alright if I don’t find her right away, he rationalized while slowing down. There’d be plenty of time to get to you. Just as he was calming his anger down, he felt a slight jostle of his pocket and looked down.
~~~
Azure and Benji had woken up just in time for the crowds to leave the main tent. They both decided to see who get the most on their way to their mom’s private tent and went in similar directions, targeting different people.
The crowds had gotten thick which was perfect for them and Azure decided that the tall man in a fur coat would be the perfect target, after all anyone hiding their identity had secrets and treasures to hide. He snickered at the thought of finding a big score.
But just as he passed by the man, delicately grabbing the first thing in the man’s pocket, he felt a hand grab his collar. He was lifted into the air, legs kicking underneath him and he realized there was no arm attached to the hand holding him up. “There you are, you brat,” An angry voice came out before Azure looked up, making direct eye contact with the man they had stolen from just hours before.
He gulped, letting out a small whine for help as the disembodied hand shook the boy slightly, “Who do you think you are stealing from me twice?” Azure was the shy, timid one of the two twins and had only stayed silent in fear at the danger he sees in front of him. And despite all that he was also amazed at how similar his face was, the pictures on the bounty poster he had gotten glances off didn’t truly show off the clown’s true features.
“And what’s with that ridiculous nose?! Are you making fun of me?” Some of the acts and tent merchants had started to make their way to the commotion.
Azure finally snapped out of his state at the last comment, “My nose isn’t weird! Mom says it’s beautiful!” He cried out trying to punch and kick the man in front of him, tears brimming his eyes.
Before Buggy could say or do anything more someone grabbed Azure and pried his shirt loose from Buggy’s grasp while another person had gripped the clowns’ shoulders. Azure turned to grab onto Antonette, a sword swallower, burying his face into her shoulder. “I’m sorry sir, but if you’d like to make a complaint, we’ll have to direct you to our main office,” The strongman act, Hubert, says while gripping Buggy’s shoulder with brute force.
Buggy was angry, but he didn’t like the subtle circle of people surrounding him, and the boy had been whisked away in a blink of an eye. Benji following behind his brother to make sure he was alright. Angrily Buggy replies, “Well take me to whoever’s in charge then!” It seems like the boy was a part of this circus, he could at least bargain to try and get his belongs back, maybe even fight a person or two. The thought of you being in charge had completely left his mind at how angry the kid had made him.
~~~
“Mistress Zazel.” An exasperated voice came through the tent that made you sigh, you had just gotten changed into a less revealing costume and called for the person to continue, knowing it had something to do with your boys “A uh. An angry customer grabbed Azure; we have him in Holding Tent 7 for you.”
Your blood boiled at the news, swinging the fabric open, coming face to face with Mertle who seemed to have known you’d be pissed, “And why did this dearest customer dare to grab my boy?”
“He seems to be the man from before. Claims that they stole from him twice today.” You let out a breath. “Antonette has both boys in her tent for now, neither of them seems to be injured in the slightest,” He adds in the report to try and make you calm down. You start walking with Mertle towards the Holding Tents. They were called tents, but they were much more akin too private rooms that locked. You had decorated them to look like small training areas for your own amusement but it had come in handy with calming some people down in the past, or of course taking care of said patrons. Mertle had been one of your first business partners and he took his job to heart, everyone in this circus did, and most people who had been here since the beginning looked after your boys as if they were their own. But you couldn’t help but feel that Mertle was holding onto some information, regardless you were about to teach another patron a lesson.
As you passed by a couple of your main acts there were whispers about having to get ready for a body clean up. You were approaching the tent quickly and could see two people guarding the entrance, you usher them to open up and your let in, the door quickly closing behind you.
The man in question had his arms crossed and was huffing in anger, back turned towards you. You take a running start, the man turning around at the sudden noise, and take a good hard punch at his face, covering your fist in Haki as you make contact, your blinding rage not granting you a look at his face.
To your surprise the punch didn’t knock the man out, it had barely forced him to turn in the direction you hit. The sudden realization of a couple of blue strands popping out from the hood, making you freeze. The man took advantage of your frozen state and grabbed both your hands, pushing you to the ground, restraining you.
And just as you had frozen at the sight of just his hair, you were now face to face with the man you still loved. The one you watched from afar but never tried to contact after he had kicked you out. Emotions overfilled you and you clenched your jaw to try and stop from crying.
Buggy, on the other hand, had been just as surprised as you, he had somehow forgotten he was following you when the blind rage of boys making fun of his look had walked by. And now here you were. Alive and well. Pinned underneath him. He stared at your features, holding in his breath in case it was a dream. His eyes glance at your features that he had memorized from your wanted poster, but none of it could compare to the real you, the one that had aged slightly since the last time he had seen you.
Overwhelmed with emotions himself he did the only thing he could think to do and slammed his lips against yours in a deep desperation as tears pricked his own eyes. You tensed up at the sudden contact, you weren’t sure what to do, your mind was flashing through the pain he had forced you to go through. You clenched your eyes shut, streams of tears falling down the sides of your face as your lips began to quivers.
Buggy, leaned his forehead against yours, “Doll…” His voice was just above a whisper as he called you, “Please Doll,” The voice you heard sounded broken and you slowly opened your eyes, staring into his own. You were shocked to see tears falling down his own face, a trickle of water going from his eyes to his nose, a drop falling on you, “I’m so sorry Y/N” he cried out while staring right at you. Your heart skipping beats as your mind became confused, “I am such an idiot,” He continued, his grip on you loosening.
You looked down his face, he looked like a toddler who gotten his candy stolen, it was an ugly crying face for sure and you couldn’t help but hold in a chuckle as your mind continued to race of what was happening. “Y/N, I love you. I’ve always loved you. I’m sorry.” You couldn’t tell if the tears drenching your face were your own or the man’s above you but your heart ached at every word, he was saying to you, “I don’t know how I could ever make it up to you” Your noses were touching now and you were sure that his face paint had gotten on your own forehead. “I’ve been looking for you for so long Darling, I’m sorry,” He was blurting things out faster now.
You sucked in a breath to calm yourself down, you couldn’t stop the tears from falling but you could stop your face from scrunching up in the same way Buggy’s was. You slowly move your hands to either side of his ugly crying face and smooshed it together a bit as you wiped tears from under his eyes. Smiling a bit at how he willingly let you move him around as he continued to cry. He tried to apologize again even has his lips were puckered out like a fish with how you were holding him and you take one more final breath before pulling him in, kissing him yourself.
This is not how Buggy pictured your reunion. He had pictured something less…. Pathetic. He didn’t want to cry, or show you his weak side. He wanted to come and sweep you off your feet, gently demanding you to join him at his side again.
He hadn’t expected to be punched by you the second you saw him, and he was even more shocked to know that it was you who had punched him, he was expecting someone else entirely, security perhaps, but not you. You had sent his rage into desperate desire to be by your side again he was overwhelmed. He had pinned you down without realizing it was you but the second he caught your eyes; he couldn’t stop himself from initiating a kiss. He couldn’t miss his chance to feel you lips on his again, even if just this one time. And as he pulled away the tear ducts started flowing, there was no stopping them and he could only think of the sorrow he had felt these past years before thinking of how much despair you yourself had been in.
He didn’t understand what you were doing to his face, he knew he was a sobbing mess and he was only expecting another punch, or at the very least a push away. He didn’t deserve you; he’ll never be worthy of you. He had truly ruined the chance he had with the love of his life and seeing you were mere inches from him again made him emotional. He was even more shocked when you pulled his face in, to kiss him yourself. Your own kiss being a desperate and hesitant one, that got stronger as time went by.
When you finally pulled back, slightly gasping for air you finally let out a small wail that you didn’t know you had in you. Buggy wrapped his arms around you sitting up as you fisted his shirt in your hands. Pressing your face into his chest, “You’re awful.” You beat on his chest as he hugged you closer letting all your pain out. He stroked your hair as he agreed with you, and that he didn’t deserve to be forgiven. After swearing him out between your sobs, “I’ve missed you so much” he squeezed you as tight as he could at your words, “I didn’t think you wanted to see me ever again.”
“Doll if only you knew how much I tried looking for you…” He whispered while rocking you back and forth. He added it was his own fault for this.
By the time you had both calmed down there was snot all over his shirt and bruises on his chest from where you were pounding him. He was silent and glanced at you, his make-up an absolute mess and you snorted between a few of your sniffles, “You look ridiculous.”
“You don’t look any better Doll.” But he quickly shut himself up, looking at you with what you could describe as puppy-dog like eyes, shifting back and forth slightly.
~~~
“We want to see mom!” Benji yelled at Antonette who was starting to pull her hair out from the twins’ behavior.
“You know the rules. When she’s dealing with an unruly customer you have to wait until the noise stops,” you never stopped them from seeing blood and gore, but you had set a rule that they couldn’t see how it had happened. Not yet at least. And thankfully everyone in your crew agreed with the sentiment, although some would prefer to shield their eyes, the boys were the ones who continuously tried to see it.
“How are we supposed to know when the noise stops if we aren’t near the tent!” Azure exclaimed pulling on a curtain, digging his feet into the sand as he let the weight of his body fall.
“Besides, I don’t want this one to die!” Benji yelled out and Antonette gave him a strange eyebrow, “He was too interesting! He looked like us!”
Antonette snorted at the comment, “If you mean like a clown that should worry you even more, you don’t come to a circus looking like a clown if you aren’t apart of it, that’s just weird.” Benji sat on her feet and hugged them, “You ain’t getting sympathy from me pal, we aren’t going until someone fetches us.” She crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair.
But as her back met the chair she heard a snicker and looked around, without her realizing it, Azure had taken down an entire curtain and was in the process of wrapping it around her. She tries to stand up, only to realize that Benji had already restrained her feet together with a small amount of rope. “Sorry Netty!” Azure yells as she watches them leave while she was yelling after them.
They sneak around, avoiding any gaze from their many babysitters until they make their way to Tent 7. They see Mertle in front of it sitting on a stool while going through a ledger. The twins look at each other and nod.
Azure stays behind the corner while Benji makes his way to Mertle, the man looks up surprised to see the boy, “Why aren’t you with Antonette?” He asks quizzically. He closes the book, standing up.
“Netty left us. There was a loud noise and angry yelling and she went to go check it out-“ Benji sniffles a bit, “And now I can’t find Azure and. And” Mertle looks startled at the normally overconfident boy starting to cry.
“Hey. Hey wait. Let’s go look for them alright?” Mertle goes to pick the boy up but Benji nods before running in the opposite direction as Azure. “Hey, Benji, Wait up you shouldn’t be alone” And with that Azure goes to the tent.
As per usual, the door is locked but he makes quick work of unlocking it. Benji already beside him again, leaning against the door to try and listen in on what’s happening. They can hear Mertle yelling in the background but the man hasn’t thought to look where he had just been. “Got it!” Azure says happily while turning the door knob.
“Hey mom did you kill the guy yet?” Benji clammers out as the door opens and he falls to the ground.
“Yea, this one was interesting we don’t want him dead” Azure adds as he trips over his older brother.
~~~
You two had decided to talk for a bit, his legs in a v shape as you sat on top of him, with your own legs outstretched behind him. Your hands on his shoulder so you could shake or hit him whenever you wanted which he happily obliged too. You had demanded to know how much he missed you, enjoying the groveling man and letting it heal your broken heart slightly.
He had regaled to you how he’d only become more infamous with a higher bounty in hopes of finding you, every island, ship, or marine base, destroyed or conquered in search of you. You didn’t know how you felt yet. You loved him, you missed him. And here he was right in front of you, begging and apologizing to you, telling you how much he loves you. And yet you couldn’t quite figure out if you could accept it. It had been years, and your heart ached to be with him, but was it right?
You lean back, placing a hand on the Buggy’s leg behind you while brushing another hand through your hair, just as you let a sigh out you hear something from behind you. Looking behind you, you see Benji had fallen to the ground first, likely just falling from leaning on the door, while Azure had made it another step into the door way but fell over his brother, eating sand on his way down. Both of them clamoring out words you could barely understand.
“Hey what have I told you two about disrupting Mommy’s work?” You scolded them, momentarily forgetting the man you were sitting on top of.
“Did they just say kill?” You straighten your back as you remember your predicament, “Did they just say mom?” You turn back to look at Buggy. “Did you just say mommy?” His thoughts were reeling, processing everything. He looked over your shoulder to see the brat, or rather brats from earlier. He thinks of his last interaction with one of them, and the words the boy had said before being whisked away, My nose isn’t weird! Mom says it’s beautiful! You tense as you watch Buggy’s face slowly put the dots together, your face turning a slight shade of red, “Are those brats…” He points to them, “My brats?” and points to himself.
The look on his face slightly in awe but mainly unreadable and you swallowed a bit and nodded. “They’re named Benji and Azure,” You croak out. You didn’t know how he’d react to realizing he was a father. You gripped his leg a bit and rub your arm with your free hand. The boys still coughing up a storm behind you from when they ate the ground.
Buggy studies the two boys, in all their clumsy glory. Azures Blue hair slightly loose from a pony tail, but well maintained and Benji covered in dirt as he goes to pull at his brothers’ hair. They both seem to have forgotten their original mission, rather focusing on who tripped who. And to your surprise he turns to you with a grin across his face, “Aw Doll, why didn’t you tell me” He wrapped his arms around you and put his head into your shoulder before he slumps over a little bit, “I made you go through this alone,” He whispered.
You still weren’t quite sure how to act, what to say, what to do. But you felt a little relieved at how Buggy was acting. You could still hear your boys arguing behind you and decided to slowly wrap your arms around Buggy. “They act a lot like you…” You whisper, as you can still hear the boys arguing with each other.
Buggy straightened up a bit coughing a bit and avoiding eye-contact, “Maybe. Maybe they could learn a thing or two from their dad.” You were silent, more shocked than anything else at how eager he seemed at the idea, “O-only if you allow me.” He had taken your silence as a soft rejection and tried to reassure you he didn’t want to force anything.
~~~
“No you grabbed my ankle!” Azure yelled as he tugged at his brother’s ear, trying to punch him. Benji had an iron grip on his hair as he proclaimed that Azure was the one that had tripped him. Both boys throwing punches and barely landing any in their tangled situation.
“Boys!” The two immediately stopped, going to stand up straight and wiping any sand or dirt off of themselves at the voice of their mother. They both looked up at similar times and fully took in the sight in front of them, you had turned your body enough to see them and were scowling. Meanwhile the man you were sitting on had been looking at both of them in awe, perhaps a little nervous as he flicked his eyes between the boys and you. “Come meet-“ You had stopped halfway through your sentence realizing what you were about to say and a heavy blush filled your cheeks.
You didn’t need to finish the sentence for them to understand though as both boys ran up on either side of you with curiosity filling their eyes. “Are you, our dad!?” Benji asked while tugging at Buggy’s sleeve, Azure giving him puppy eyes as the two boys stared at the man.
Buggy flipped his head to look at both boys before looking back at you, only to see you had turned your head to the corner to avoid eye contact, but even he knew it was out of embarrassment over anything else. “You have our nose! It’s real!” Azure beamed happily at the man as he poked the nose and even Buggy was flustered at the situation.
“Would you like it if I were your dad?” Buggy finally spoke cautiously, eyeing you every now and then to make sure he didn’t cross any lines. And you couldn’t help but let out a small snort as you saw admiration in Azure’s eyes as Benji had a wide smile.
You watch as Buggy, still very overwhelmed with emotions look to you for approval and you just give the slightest nod. Within a moment Buggy’s arms had wrapped around all three of you and squeezed you tightly making you gasp. “I’m gonna need to teach you two how to do make-up properly,” Was the first thing he said proudly still not letting go, “Cause whatever I saw this morning was god awful.” You could hear as Azure muffled his laugh into his fathers’ clothes and Benji straighten up a bit at the comment.
As Buggy loosens his grip on all three of you, “I told you it looked awful!” Azure gleefully proclaimed while looking at his brother, who in turn tried to climb between you and Buggy to get at his brother.
Buggy laughed before grabbing both of them tightly on either side of him, “I see they like to fight.”
“Well, who do you think they got it from?” you laughed, relaxing quite a bit at the display in front of you.
Just as you were enjoying the moment you heard the door swing open behind you, “M-Mistress Zazel I have horrible news. The Boys they’re miss-“ You look behind you to see Mertle in a frantic state, stopping at the sight in front of him.
“Ah, don’t worry ‘bout it. The boys are with me.” You say waving him away, “Everyone’s dismissed for the night. No need for ‘clean-up’.” And Mertle gapes his mouth open but is able to let out an okay closing the door behind him.
“Were you gonna kill me doll?” Buggy let the boys go to gingerly place a hand under your chin, making you turn towards him as he leans in closer.
“Well, you did attack my boys” You smile glancing at his lips before looking at his eyes leaning in closer.
But just as your lips brushed against each other, Benji, not understanding anything, loudly shouts, “Mama kills anyone who touches us!”
“Yea! You woulda been number 34!” Azure agrees while beaming up at their father. Both boys trying to climb on top of Buggy as though he was a jungle gym.
“I see we have quite the trouble makers,” He smiles leaning close for an actual kiss that you happily accept.
Chapter 9 Notes Psyc
Quiz Chapter 9 Psyc
Culinary chapter 10 Quiz
Consumer Debt Inventiry assignment
Using Credit personal finance assignment
I've put a lot on my to-do list for today, but if I can even get a third of each list done, I will still be very proud of myself. Productivity should not come at the cost of my own well-being. Maybe I'll take a nap today? My boyfriend thinks it's a good idea, but I'm not a big fan of naps regardless of the situation. We shall see.
I took complete advantage of the prime big deals on Amazon and ordered some new workout clothes, some hair accessories, a set of silk pillowcases, and supplies for my bullet journal language tracker/planner. I even bought this cute little journal that's made specifically for fitness and health tracking, as a little side thing of mine to help keep me going! It comes with stickers and already set up pages, so hopefully, it proves to be useful!
I may or may not have made an Ulta order for some makeup using my afterpay account as well, because as it gets colder outside I'm starting to want to wear makeup for fun again. I'm not typically drawn to full beat looks but in the winter I love going all out with my makeup looks, whether I'm doing a more grunge goth emo look or a soft coquette girly look and everything in between. I love makeup as a form of self expression!
May or may not buy some more skincare as well, I'm just trying to decrease the amount of stuff in my skincare cart on the shopping app but it's so hard choosing what to get now and what to wait on!! I'm super indecisive too so that intensified the struggle.
Thats all for today! I'll make sure to update you lovelies tonight/tomorrow!
til next time, lovelies 🩷
Chapter 15!
Steve Harrington: Vampire Hunter
ao3 link
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4
Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8
Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12
Chapter 13 Chapter 14
Whoever was at Steve’s front door was persistent. They rang the bell over and over again as he rushed around, shoving his legs into a pair of sweatpants so he wouldn’t have to greet whoever it was in his underwear. He wasn’t expecting anyone this morning. Robin hadn’t texted and Wayne wasn’t due to pick him up for hours.
He padded barefoot to the door and was so annoyed by the constant buzzing that the second he reached it he threw it open wide. He couldn’t have been more surprised to find Jane, the scary young girl from Henry Creel's house standing on his doorstep.
“What, uh, can I, um, do for you, Jane?” Steve stuttered, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
She didn’t say a word in reply, just smiled and raised her hand palm-up in front of her face and made a little oh with her lips. Steve had a fraction of a second to notice the black powdery substance she was holding before she was suddenly blowing it right in his face.
Whatever that stuff was, whatever she had done to him, the effect was immediate. The world around Steve swam and he felt himself begin to fall. He waited for the pain to hit him but it never came, blackness overtook him before he ever hit the floor.
Steve came-to in a dark room with a dirt floor. It was cold enough to make him shiver and wish he had thought to throw on a t-shirt before answering his front door. In his defense he hadn’t expected to be abducted today. It smelled damp and musty and the word cellar came quickly to mind. He could feel that he wasn’t alone, that he was being watched, but he hadn’t turned his head yet to confirm who it was and so far had been careful to only open his eyes a crack. He kept his breath even as he took stock of himself.
He’d been knocked out plenty of times before, and in a few different ways, but the weird thing about this time was, he remembered everything and he felt…fine.
It was no different than waking up from a nap. Nothing hurt, and he wondered if he had ever even hit the ground or if Jane had floated him away once he passed out like she had done with the objects in Creel’s house. There was also no fuzziness to his thoughts like there usually was when he got hit too hard in the head. He had the hysterical thought that he wished more bad guys would use the stuff she had.
He finally opened his eyes and turned over. In the low light of a few candles he could see Jane sitting on top of a box no more than a few feet away.
No, not a box. A coffin.
Right, so it was still daylight outside. The question was, who was in the coffin? Henry didn’t seem to need to hide from the sun nor did Steve think a man like that would lower himself to rest in a place like this.
Only one way to find out.
Steve cleared his throat. “Who’s in the box?”
“Oh, so I see you’re done pretending to be asleep now.” Jane said.
Steve sat up, still a little amazed at how good he felt.
He decided to act dumb, though it was only partly an act because he really didn’t know what the hell was going on. “All this wasn’t necessary, I told Henry I would think about his offer and I meant it, but I haven’t decided yet. He promised me time, so what’s with the kidnapping routine?”
Jane grimaced at the mention of the ancient vampire’s name. “I am no longer on Henry’s side, although he does not know that yet. I don’t know if you’ve met my friend Angela.” She said, patting the box beneath her. “She’s promised to free me and my sister from him. We had a plan, but neither of us expected him to get his hands on a real live necromancer, so we had to improvise. When I met you yesterday at the house I knew I had to stop you from joining him.”
Okay. He didn’t really understand what she meant, or what made him so special, but he couldn't worry about that now. His top priority was to get the hell out of there before Angela woke. She was old and powerful and would likely rise before sunset. He didn’t know what time it was now, he didn’t know how long he’d been out of it, he just knew he needed to hurry.
He didn’t want to hurt Jane if he could avoid it. Maybe she could be reasoned with.
“I haven’t agreed to help him yet.” Steve repeated, glad that he was telling the truth and hoping the sincerity carried through in his voice. “What if I promise not to help him, will you let me go then?”
Jane sighed as if she suspected this conversation was coming, but wasn’t looking forward to it. “I’m sorry, but It’s more complicated than that now I'm afraid. We can’t have you helping your Master of the City either. Angela must kill him and rise to the position herself to have any hope of defeating Henry.”
Steve knew what was coming next. Jane would ask for his cooperation to put Angela in charge, which he was never going to do. He felt for Jane, in a way. If she really was doing all this to gain her and her sisters freedom, he could almost understand. Though, even the bad guys had families sometimes and he couldn’t afford to assume anything about this girl just because she loved her sister.
But, maybe he could try to convince her that Angela couldn’t be trusted.
“Jane, I know you don’t know me, and I don’t know much about your situation, but I have met Angela and I can assure she is not your friend. If Henry is bad, then she is worse. She…”
Jane cut him off. “You have no idea what you’re talking about. She is my friend! She promised!”
“Angela and her people have murdered innocents, Jane. Did you know that? Did she tell you what she did to them? Her and her friends attacked me and an older man, unprovoked. She almost killed us. And when we did manage to get the upper hand she was going to let us kill one of her friends. She didn’t care what happened to him.”
“You’re making that up. You're trying to trick me!” She shouted
"No honey, I swear I’m not. I also swear that if you let me go I will do everything in my power to help you and your sister. It’s part of my job, to help people who are in trouble with vampires. Please, just let me go before she wakes, we can both go. I’ll keep you safe.”
Jane threw her hands over her ears and screamed wordlessly, trying to drown out what he was saying. As she did, things began to explode all around them. Glass mason jars, tins of screws, and barrels full of liquid.
She hopped down off the coffin and stood glaring down at him with eyes simmering with fear and anger. “She warned me you would do this! She told me not to talk to you alone but you woke too early! She will be up soon and you will see. You will have to join us or die. There is no other choice. Anything else puts Kali at risk, so you better start preparing yourself for whatever fate you choose.”
Jane walked off to the other end of the space and sat down…on the bottom step. He hadn’t noticed it before but there were three short steps that led to a set of metal doors, only the barest hint of outdoor light visible around the edges. She had closed her eyes and seemed to be meditating.
Steve wracked his brain for what to do. He was pretty sure he could overpower the girl physically, but Jane was a witch and he didn’t know the limits of what she could do. He had his own power he could try to tap into, but if he did that she would probably sense it and he would lose any element of surprise.
There was one thing he could do. The one bit of magic he could do better than anyone else, it was as easy as breathing and required only the smallest amount of his power. He dug his fingers into the dirt floor and could sense the bodies that lay beneath it. He didn’t know if they were more of Angela's victims or if the house that stood above them had once belonged to a serial killer, but there were several sets of bones under this ground and one of them lay right under Jane’s feet.
He pushed his fingers further into the earth and called to the bones, releasing only the barest hint of his power. The zombie didn’t need to look good, it just needed to rise and do his bidding. In his mind he whispered to the dead man what he wanted him to do, along with an apology for using his earthly body this way.
The zombie was ready, itching to burst towards the surface but Steve held him fast, told him to wait, wait for just one more minute.
Steve got to his feet and slowly approached the girl, better to be as close to the doors as possible before he gave away his advantage.
Her eyes shot open at his movement. “What are you doing?” She asked, and she sounded appalled as if stunned he would move from his spot without permission. If she had really expected him to stay put maybe she should have tied him down. She wasn't very good at this. Maybe it was her first kidnapping.
“You looked upset, I just wanted to make sure you were okay.” He lied.
She tilted her head staring at him with furrowed brows.
A few more steps and he’d be right in front of her, it was time. He let go of the metaphorical leash he was holding and instantly a bony hand broke through the packed dirt and grabbed on hard and fast to her ankle.
Jane cried out and tried to wrench her leg from its grip. Steve dodged around her, praying that the door wasn’t somehow locked from the outside. It wasn’t, but there was a chain wrapped around the pull handles secured with a padlock. It was old and rusted, Steve yanked on it but the links didn’t break. He scanned the room sure there would be something around to help him break through, and he was right. There was a shovel with a metal head leaning against the wall only a few feet away.
He lunged for it as he listened to Jane continue to struggle with his zombie. It had now completely escaped its shallow grave and had its arms locked around her waist. She was screaming in terror. He wondered why she wasn’t using her powers. Maybe all she had was telekinesis or maybe wrestling with an animated dead body that was nothing more than bones and bits of flesh was just frightening enough to make her forget about everything else.
He hit the chain with the head of the shovel as hard as he could. Three or four good whacks and the links snapped. He started to unwind the remaining length of chain from the door when the lid to Angelas coffin popped open with a crash. He’d hoped she would go for Jane first, to help free her from the zombie but of course she didn’t. She went right for Steve. He tossed the chain aside and quickly snapped the shovel handle in half over his leg. He may not have shoes or a shirt, but now he had two wooden stakes. It was better than nothing.
Angela grabbed Steve by the throat and slammed him into the steps, hissing in his face. His back hit the edge of one of the wooden planks and it hurt like a motherfucker but he managed to hold on to his only weapons. He jammed one of the bits of wood into her side, digging it in as deep as he could. It wasn’t a killing blow, but that wasn’t the goal here. He just needed to distract her long enough to get the doors open. The daylight would do the rest.
She reared back, shrieking in pain and yelling at Jane to help her. Steve scrambled backwards up the final step and rammed his shoulder into the center of the double doors pushing them open and sending sunlight cascading into his end of the cellar.
Angela shrieked again and threw herself further back into the shadows of the opposite end of the cellar.
Steve struggled to his feet, back aching and more than one splinter in the bottom of his foot, but he did it and ran out into the backyard of a small house. Autumn leaves crunched under his feet and the sound echoed behind him. He looked back over his shoulder to find Jane standing a few feet outside of the cellar watching his escape. He expected her to at least run after him, or worse, but she just stood there and shouted to him.
“The black powder is deadly.” It was enough to slow him down, to give him pause. He turned to face her from twenty feet away. “There is no antidote, but I know a spell that will heal you. Otherwise, you’ll die within hours. Stay, agree to bond with Angela and I’ll save your life.”
Steve wasn’t buying it, he felt fine. She was just trying to scare him into turning back. He was bathed in sunlight, Angela couldn’t get to him, and Jane seemed reluctant to leave her.
He wouldn’t fall for it. He turned his back on her and ran.
Steve had been walking on the side of the road for only about ten minutes when a car pulled up beside him. He’d started out running, and kept it up until he could no longer see the abandoned house and he was sure that Jane wasn’t going to give chase, but his feet were getting torn up in the process and eventually he’d been forced to slow down.
“You look like you could use a ride.” A familiar female voice called out to him through the open car window.
He stooped down to peer at the driver and sure enough, it was Nancy. He wasn’t in any position to refuse the help so he got in the car, albeit a little reluctantly.
What was she doing out here?
Wherever here was.
She looked him up and down before pulling the car back onto the road. “Are you okay? Do you need a doctor?” She asked.
Apart from the pain in his back and his scratched up feet he was fine. Well that, and there was a tightness to his chest that was new, but that was probably from the running. “How did you know I was out here, Nance?”
“How do you know I wasn't just out for a drive and got lucky?”
He stared at her in silence, unblinking.
She glanced between him and the road a few times and let out a long breath.
“Fine. I saw the girl take you from your house. I followed you here. I swear I was going to come to the rescue, I just wanted to see what…”
“What the fuck Nance you followed me here? How did you see her take me, were you staking out my fucking house?”
“Yes! Alright? Yes, I've been watching you. I’m sorry. Look, I took the contract and I know you were hesitant to help me outright so I thought…”
“Stop!” Steve shouted. The whole thing was giving him a throbbing headache. “Just…stop talking and take me home.”
“Are you sure it’s safe for you to go home right now?”
She had a point.
He wasn’t sure why that hadn’t occurred to him yet. He felt tired and a little foggy. It was probably the fading adrenaline. Oh well, whatever he decided to do would be none of her business after the stunt she’d just pulled.
“Just drive.” He said, turning to look out the window. They made the rest of the long drive in complete silence.
He slammed the passenger door of Nancy’s rent-a-car and stood in his front yard watching until she had driven out of sight. He knew he should get inside and pack and bag. Call Robin or Wayne to pick him up. He could easily stay with one of them for a few days until he figured out what to do. He was so tired though. He stumbled his way over to his front porch steps and sat down. He’d just rest for a minute, catch his breath, then he’d go inside and take care of things.
Distantly he heard the door to the house open behind him, and felt footsteps as someone walked across the porch. He tensed, not sure he was up to fighting anyone else off right now
“Steve?”
It was Robin. Relief flooded through him and he wanted so badly to turn and look at her, but his body wouldn’t cooperate and his head felt like it weighed a hundred pounds. He tried to say her name but something caught in his throat and he began to cough uncontrollably. Something hot and sticky dribbled down his chin.
Robin came bounding around the side of him so she could see his face. She gasped and fell to her knees next to him. His vision blurred and he saw only red as she took his head in her hands. She was screaming his name and he wanted to respond to her, he really did but he was so tired. He couldn’t even sit up anymore. He slid sideways and landed in her lap. He closed his eyes and realized how quiet it had gotten. He couldn’t hear Robin anymore, just the rush of blood in his ears until he drifted away, and then that was gone too.
Steve woke up and had no idea where he was. It was becoming the theme of his life at this point and one he was desperate to stop. He was lying on his back in an unfamiliar king sized bed made up with black silk sheets and far too many pillows.
He stared at the ceiling and tried to think. What was the last thing he remembered? He wasn’t sure, but something about the ceiling and what he could see of the walls was familiar. He shook the feeling off and tried to concentrate. He remembered the doorbell ringing, and Jane standing on his doorstep. It all came rushing back, the cellar, Angela, Nancy, her dropping him off at home. Robin.
“Robin.” He tried to sit up, gasping her name.
Suddenly someone was at his side, supporting his back and stroking his hair.
“Hey, hey, hush. Take it easy, sweetheart. Robin’s just fine, she’s in the other room resting, it’s been a long night.”
Steve looked up and met Eddie’s deep brown eyes with his own. He looked nervous, scared even. He ran the vampire's words over again in his head. A long night? The last Steve knew was the middle of the day. What the hell happened?
He pushed away from the other man and tried to sit up on his own, happy to find that he could. In fact, the longer he was awake the better he felt, which he had a feeling should not have been the case.
Eddie scooted away from him too, widening the distance between them. Steve was pretty sure that was a first.
He cleared his throat and wrapped his arms around himself to keep them from shaking.
“Why am I here, Eddie?”
“Robin brought you to me.”
Steve didn’t like the way he said her name like it was common to his tongue, like he knew her. He’d managed to shield Robin from this part of his life for so long, and now here she was in the thick of it. She knew of Eddie of course but Steve had never intended for them to meet. It was enough that he let her around Dustin. He was safe, but Eddie…
“Don’t look at me like that, Steve.”
“Like what?”
“As if I'd hurt her.”
Steve ignored the pain in the vampire’s voice and asked the next logical question.
“Why would she bring me…” He trailed off looking again at the familiar fixtures on the walls. He had been here before, but the room had looked a lot different then. Billy’s coffin room. Now it looked more like a very large master bedroom. There was even a bathroom built into one corner of the room now. ”Here?”
Eddie hesitated, eyes guarded. “You were dying, Steve. Do you not remember?”
He did then, it was all coming back to him in snippets. Sitting down on the front step because he’d gotten tired, coughing and watching blood droplets splatter the white concrete, Robin looking horrified as he collapsed into her, red seeping into his eyes as he passed out.
“I remember.” He muttered. He'd been so sure he was a goner but it had all happened so fast he hadn’t even had time to be afraid. Fear gripped him now though as he realized what may have been done to save his life.
“Eddie. How is it that I'm sitting here, now, alive?”
The vampire heaved a great sigh. Steve felt a prickling of pain in his wrist. He looked down and found it wrapped in gauze. He already knew the answer but he needed Eddie to say it.
To admit to what he’d done.
Again.
“I think you already know.” Eddie admitted, weakly.
“Say it.”
“The third mark.”
Steve shook his head, he almost couldn’t believe it though the evidence was right in front of him. “You bit me. You fucking fed from me.”
“I had to.”
“You son of a bitch.”
“I saved your life.”
“You drank my blood while I was unconscious.”
“Yes. I did. And I'd do it again.”
Steve sucked in a breath ready to tear into Eddie for what he'd done, but then the door sprang open and Robin came tumbling into the room. She jumped right up onto the bed and threw her arms around him.
“Oh my god, Steve! You’re alright! I really thought this was it, that I'd never see you again!” He hugged her back and settled for glaring at Eddie over her shoulder for now.
Robin sobbed into his chest as she began to ramble. “I’m sorry Steve, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know what had happened to you, and I was going to take you to the hospital but I thought, what if they got it wrong, what if it wasn’t a medical thing at all. I didn’t know what to do but I knew Eddie had saved you before so I thought… I'm sorry, Steve, I was just so scared and I didn't want to lose you.” She sniffled and her body shook as she ran out of words. Steve rocked them back and forth as he rubbed her back.
He wasn’t happy that she’d brought him here but he couldn't be mad at her when he was the one who almost died in her lap.
“It’s okay, Rob, it’s okay. I’m not mad at you.” He pulled back, smiling at her as he wiped the tears from her face. “Can you wait for me outside? I need to talk to Eddie alone. I’ll only be a few minutes.”
Robin glanced nervously from him, to the vampire, and back again, looking like she wanted to say something but ultimately held her tongue. She nodded and left in a hurry, though he was sure she wouldn’t go too far.
Steve rounded on Eddie the second the door closed. “I can’t blame her for bringing me here, I know she couldn't stand to see me like that and would do anything to save me, but you KNEW how I felt about this! You knew I would have refused if I could have and still, you did it anyway!” He was shouting at the top of his lungs by the end of his speech, chest heaving.
Eddie remained calm in the face of his anger. It was infuriating.
“Is it not possible, Steve, for you to believe that maybe I also couldn’t stand to see you like that? That I couldn't stand the thought of losing you either?” The vampire said softly.
“Fuck you.” Steve spat. “Don't try to turn this into something it’s not. You want me because of what I can do for you, the power I can give you. You never gave a shit about me, if you did you would have respected my wishes.”
“Let you die, you mean? Steve, please listen to me, I..”
“No! Shut up, I don't want to hear any more. Just tell me what this means, what new fun surprises I have to look forward to and then I'm leaving.”
Eddie laid back against the sheets staring up at the ceiling as he answered. “More of the same. We’ll be able to speak to each other seamlessly mind-to-mind now when we’re close if we choose, and we’ll be able to share minds and bodies as we did with the snake with a greater ease as well. You are very hard to kill now. No poison, venom, or illness can touch you. You’ll still age, but much slower. You’ll be able to keep me out much more easily too, if you wish.”
“Well thank god for small blessings.” Steve hopped off the bed and walked straight for the door without looking back. He felt great, better than he had in days, physically at least.
“Wait,” Eddie said as he zipped to his side and tried to grab his arm.
Steve side-stepped him easily, moving quicker than he ever had in his life as he felt Eddie's presence move towards him as if in slow motion.
He opened the door and only then turned around to face the vampire one last time.
“Stay the fuck away from me, Eddie. I mean it.”
The ride home in Robin’s car was tense. He wasn’t mad at her, exactly, but he was mad, and she knew it. He was stoic as he told her about Jane and Angela. He then also had to tell her about his meeting with Henry Creel because her first question had been, who the fuck is Jane?
She didn’t say anything throughout, just listened, and when she did finally speak it wan’t about anything he had just told her.
“Steve, I know you're mad at Eddie, and that you hate him for what he did, what he’s done, but I think you should give him a break.”
“Rob, don’t.” He said, a note of warning in his voice.
“I think he’s in love with you.”
“Bullshit!” He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. She was his friend! She was supposed to be on his side!
"Steve, you didn’t see what I saw. The way he looked at you, how scared he was.”
“He drank my blood, Robin. That’s not my idea of love.”
“No, but maybe it is his.”
“I’m done talking about this. I hate him, I’ll never forgive him for this. I told him no, in no uncertain terms. He betrayed the small amount of trust that lived between us. I’m done.”
They pulled up to his house and Steve got out of the car quickly. Robin made like she would follow but he put his hand out to stop her, speaking through the open door.
“Listen, I said I wasn’t mad at you, and I meant that. I love you, but I need a little time to wallow, okay? I promise I won’t stay here. I'll call Wayne to come pick me up. I can stay with him for a few days at least. We have work later tonight anyway, and…”
“Work?! Steve, you can’t be serious! I’m sure your Dad is pissed you missed last night but-”
“This isn’t about him, Robin, not this time. I need something that’s mine, just mine. Something that is the same now as it was before Eddie.”
“Okay, I guess I can understand that. Be careful, and at least text me every few days so I know you're still alive.” She said.
He shook his head at her and smiled despite himself. He leaned back into the car and smacked a kiss on her forehead. “I will text you every day, every hour if it makes you feel better.”
She snorted. “You know, it actually would, but I won't hold you to that. I love you, Dingus”
“I love you too, Robs.”
Steve’s stomach was in knots.
He’d been so sure he was doing the right thing when he made the call, but now, sitting in the truck next to Wayne on their way to the office he was filled with dread. A sinking feeling deep in his gut.
He felt sick.
He felt guilty, and he was pissed off because it was bullshit. Eddie had betrayed him first, and the more he’d thought about it the angrier he’d become until finally, he’d decided.
He’d decided this was his best chance at getting his life back. At getting back to normal.
Henry could do it. He was more than strong enough to get rid of Eddie, and Angela, and then Steve could put this whole thing behind him. He worried for Dustin, but Owens and Henry both assured him that they would keep an eye on the kid and that none of the other vampires would be hurt, even those who might stand against them in Eddie’s defense.
Not that it would come to that, anyway. Steve had truly given Eddie up. He’d told them his daytime resting place and described the underground of the theater in stark detail, even going so far as to tell them about the route through the sewer though it was likely closed off now.
He’d told them about the new vampires, and how Eddie could now call werewolves to his aid. He told them anything and everything he could think of to make it as easy as possible, including the fact that he now bore Eddie’s third mark, unsure of how much new power that had granted the vampire.
Henry had expressed concern at the news. “Mr. Harrington, I would be remiss if I didn't tell you. With the third mark…you do realize you may die with him, don’t you? Are you sure you wish to go through with this?”
“I’m sure.” He’d said quickly. He was just grateful that this was all they wanted from him, for now. He'd given Eddie up, but that didn’t mean he wanted to watch.
Reluctantly, he’d also told them about Jane and her alliance with Angela, and hoped Henry would be merciful.
Wayne seemed to know he was struggling with something, and remained quiet as Steve’s thoughts continued to swirl.
Doubts were suddenly creeping in, and he wondered why something as powerful as the oldest living vampire had needed his help for this. Surely he could have taken Eddie from one of his businesses, they were public enough. Though, Henry had seemed to have a great respect for human life, so perhaps he was waiting until dawn to limit the number of innocent bystanders.
In addition to all the information Steve had shared, Henry also asked Steve to support him and his platform once he rose to power. He figured he was in it now, for better or for worse, and there was nothing he could do but agree.
Steve’s phone began to ring loudly, pulling him from his thoughts. It was a blocked number and he almost didn’t answer it but in the end his curiosity, and Wayne’s glare at the noisy piece of technology, won out.
“Hello?”
“Necromancer?”
“Jane? What…”
“I’m sorry to call you like this.” She interrupted, speaking quickly before he could ask what she wanted. “I’m sorry about everything, Steve. You have no reason to trust me but I need you to listen to me now. It seems we have both made terrible mistakes and put out faith in the wrong people. I’m calling to see if you would be willing to help me fix the mess we’ve made?”
Steve sucked in a harsh breath as his heart sank. “What do you mean?”
“I overheard Henry and Owens talking. I know you gave your master up to them, and that you told them what I did.”
“Jane, I…”
“It’s okay, Steve. It’s not the first time I've been caught...misbehaving. I’ve been punished and managed to convince Henry that I'm remorseful. There’s more.” She paused and took a deep breath before continuing. “Henry and Angela are working together. They always have been. I didn’t know. I swear I didn't know. I thought Angela was my friend. I don’t know what has happened between you and your Eddie to make you hate him so, but you have to warn him. We have to find a way to stop this or a lot of innocent people are going to die.”
“What do you mean, what’s going to happen?
“He’s going to sneak in tomorrow morning to kill Eddie and take control of the city, which you already know. What he didn’t tell you is that when the sun sets he’s going to force every vampire in the city to attack humans, with orders for maximum bloodshed.”
Oh God.
How could he have gotten it so wrong?
“Tomorrow?” Steve gulped. “But that’s Halloween. The streets will be full of families, kids.”
“I think that’s the point.” She said softly.
Fuck.
“What do we do? What can we do?”
“Warn Eddie, move him, try and come up with a plan. Do whatever you can and I will do the same from this end of things. Henry thinks I'm on his side again for now which may give us the upper hand.”
“What about your sister?” Steve asked.
“I can’t condemn so many others to death to save the life of one.”
“My offer still stands Jane, if we survive this, I will help you get your sister back if I can.”
“I’m sorry I didn't trust you before, Necromancer.”
Steve’s breath caught in his throat. He knew exactly how she felt. “It’s okay, it can be hard to know who to trust sometimes. If anyone can understand that, I do. How do I reach you once I'm with Eddie?”
“I’ll find you when I can. Good luck.” She hung up before he could say the same.
Steve threw the phone to the floor and slammed his fist into the dashboard with a curse, tears stinging the corners of his eyes.
“What is it, son?” Wayne asked, his own face pinched with worry.
Steve dropped his head into his hands. “I fucked up, Wayne. I fucked up so bad and now people are going to die and it’s all my fault.”
The frustrating thing about insomnia is for some reason everyone thinks it’s like
10pm: *decides to stay up and do random bullshit all night* *sleeps until noon*
And I will admit! Sometimes that is it. Sometimes it is a choice. I’m human sometimes i make choices that upset or are disagreeable to others
But equally likely it’s literally like:
10pm. Do some stuff while it’s quiet.
Midnight: try to sleep. Unable to sleep. Frustrated. You are literally yawning. Why are you not asleep? Why is it so easy for everyone else? Toss and turn until the frustration drives you out of bed
1 am: Go and do something for a little while.
3 am: try to sleep again. Still no sleep. You desperately change positions a dozen times, knowing it won’t matter but hoping that maybe if you turn your arms at the exact right angle it’ll activate a cheat code that will put you to sleep.
4-5 am: feel the sands of time ticking away. The frustration is coming back, not just because you didn’t sleep but also now you know that you’re either going to sleep all day or be exhausted and unfunctional. So not only did you just waste several hours of your life not sleeping you are now going to lose several more. +20 stress and frustration if you have school or job in the morning.
5:30 am: give up and decide to try and pull an all nighter. Go eat breakfast and take meds.
6 am: do something for like an hour. It’s never productive because your brain is fried from exhaustion.
Rest of the day: struggle to stay awake. If you have a class or job in the morning you can maybe get through it on pure adrenaline but you won’t remember any of it. If you have anything later than 10 am you’re in serious danger of missing it because you suddenly passed out at 8:30 and your max volume alarm was insufficient to awaken you from your exhaustion. Even if you make it through everything you need to do that day At some point you will probably take a nap and wake up just in time to do the whole thing again
*good news, if you have nothing today you’ll sleep great! Bad news, you will be called a lazy bastard by your family, and/or genuinely concern them. You’re not sure which is worse.
All in all you end up only sleeping like. 6 hours max sporadically every 24 hrs, and wasting another 6+ hours trying to sleep, plus more time being unable to do anything because you’re too tired
It’s very frustrating!!! And sometimes you can tell it’s going to be one of Those Nights even though you took the sleepy time gummies so you give up on sleeping after 2 hours of trying instead of 6, but then everyone thinks you’re doing it on purpose
Anyway in unrelated news it’s 1:42 in the morning, i already took melatonin hours ago and I cannot sleep
I got this idea because of a part of Donquixote Doflamingo’s speech in marineford
[Children who’s never known peace have different values from children who’ve never known war]
So yeah we’re doing this.
Chapter 1: Devastation
Warning: death (only in the beginning)
It all happened so fast James didn’t know what to think. All he could see around him were bodies of everyone who lived in the city. Some were crushed, others dismembered, other were given crueler fates. As he stood there wondering why this happened, he heard thundering foots steps approaching.
“Aww, looks like I missed a bug, don’t worry, it’ll all be over soon.” - Giant (M)
As the giant’s foot raised over James, all he could do is cry, he couldn’t scream, run, anything. He stood there and watched in horror. Right before the giant set his foot down, a second giant came tackling him to the street before he could even notice her.
“Alright, you and your friends are done for sicko. You’re under arrest” - Giant Cop (F)
A giant police officer pinned the giant down and put him in restraints, another came along to take him away, as he did, she looked over and noticed James standing there crying, not moving.
“Hey sweetheart, it’s okay now, you’re safe. - hello? Sweety? I know you’re scared but it’s fine. -little guy? -oh no.” - Giant Cop (F)
James was in such a state of shock he couldn’t react to anything, he was as still as a statue, and could’ve been mistaken for one if it wasn’t for the constant tears running down his face. The giant officer grabbed James gently and held him close, he didn’t move an inch. Once she had him safe and secure, she took him back to get him help, knowing he wasn’t alright.
*Later on elsewhere*
“KIDS, COME DOWN, IT’S TIME FOR DINNER” -Mom
“COMING MOM” - Alex
A pre-teen comes walking down a flight of stairs slowly as he approaches a table, there sit 3 plates of food. The father sitting down at the table, and the mother passing the food onto the plates.
“Alex, where’s your sister?” - Dad
“She’s in my hair, where else?” - Alex
Out of his hair a little girl appears, no bigger then the palm of anybody’s hand. She yawns as she arises from the strands of hair and looks around to see lunch being served.
“Well, good morning sweetheart, how was your nap” - Dad
“It was great, Alex’s hair is so soft, i could sleep on it all day and all night” -Lillie
“Maybe we should get rid of your bed then and let you sleep in your brothers hair” -Mom
“HEY, I LIKE MY BED YOU KNOW” -Lillie
Everyone giggles at the conversation before sitting down and getting ready to eat. Alex cups Lillie in both of his hands to bring her down gently so she can eat with them. She’s set onto a section of Alex’s plate where she is given far smaller portions to match with her smaller size.
“So, how was work dad?” - Alex
“It was fine until… i was called to duty, some thugs destroyed an entire human city, there were barely any survivors.” -Dad
“Oh no, those poor people, can you tell us what happened” - Mom
“I can’t discuss details yet, all i can say is… I saw the worst thing today, and I’m disgusted by what they did” - Dad
“What was it?” - Lillie
“It- it was a boy, no older or bigger then you Lillie, he… he was incredibly hurt. His body was fine, nothing damaged… but he looked dead, he wouldn’t react to anything, the giant that almost killed him, the sound of a skyscraper collapsing, the screams of a giant…. Nothing. He… wasn’t all there when we found him.” - Dad
Everyone stayed silent for a minute. To hear a child so mentally destroyed hurt everyone a bit. All anyone could think about was “what if it was Lillie”. They always feared what could happen to her, but never imagined how she would feel if something similar happened to her. Even Lillie, who always seemed courageous no matter what, was even scared to hear those words, nobody said anything for what felt like hours, but was only minutes.
“I think… I think it’s best i get Lillie to bed tonight. Do you mind if she sleeps with me?” -Alex
“I think it would be for the best tonight if she slept with you, you always manage to help her sleep easy.” - Mom
“Night Mom, Night Dad” - Alex and Lillie
“Goodnight my babies” - Mom
“Sleep well kiddos” - Dad
Alex and Lillie went to get changed and go to bed. Samantha and Samuel went to clean up dinner while they’re kids went to bed. After they changed, Alex grabs Lillie and bring her to his bed, where he lays here on one side of his pillow as he lays on the other, and covers them both up with his blanket.
“Bubby, y-you promise you’ll never leave me alone, right? You’ll always be there for me when I need you?” -Lillie
Without hesitation, Alex responds “Of course”, as he knows Lillie only ever calls him “Bubby” when she’s truly scared, she used to call him that when there were loud sounds, it was pitch black in the room, or if she had nightmares, and he would always comfort her since they shared a room for several years. Alex places his hand over Lillie, and she wraps her hands around his thumb to hold like a giant stuffed animal.
“Thank you bubby, night night” - Lillie
“Goodnight Lillie” - Alex
Got home from the hospital around 3. Spent a little time on the back patio with my kids enjoying them and then sun. By 5pm i was in bed and out cold pretty swiftly. Woke up after what felt like 8 hours and was confused to find the sun up. Couldn't immediately find my phone or my watch but based on how sunny it was i assumed a kid was awake so I called out. Wren came to me and I'm like, "Is it still today or is it tomorrow? I slept but the sun is up." I was assured that it was like 6:45pm same day I'd gotten home. Kid helped me find my phone. I texted my bestie that home naps were much better than trauma horrifying hospital naps. She agreed. I told her about my funny dream. We laughed. Then i immediately passed right back out for another like 90 minutes. Woke up to the sun being down. Still had to confirm what day it was on my phone. It's worth noting I don't usually nap but i don't deny them when needed. And despite my best efforts, i did not sleep last night. Though i cat napped through the morning around rounds 1 and 2 and breakfast and nurse care. None of it the quality sleep that has you waking up confused as to what centry it is, like what hit me come 5pm.
My dream:
I woke as the pop up road side Indian restaurant (I dreamt i was at) was like sure you can try all our spiciest sauces. I sort of whimped out of the sampling when i said hold on let me pee first and woke up. (To actually go potty.) I'd drawn a crowd of regulars who were like please don't do this! Why are you letting her do this!? "*shrug* She asked." The spiciest was called like angel death. They were actually like mexican style sauces you poor on your food. Like taco sauce but not salsa. But I swear it was indian food. So maybe it was curry sauces? I dunno. I just know i was excited to try them and they were getting a selection of them set up in little sauce cups. And i was like, hey while you finish getting it setup I'm going to go potty real fast, and then boom i was a awake with a full bladder and confused why the sun was still up. Never got to try the sauces. I like spicy sauces. And apparently they had properly spicy ones (like an authentic Indian restaurant is good for) and i was just going to taste test sauces and the regulars at this food truck type pop up restaurant were like scared for my life? And I'm like, "It's fine I'll be fine." And the chef was like, "Hey if she wishes death that's on her." But then it didn't play out because i had to pee. Also. No rice. No meat. I think i was planning to drink the sauces straight from the sample cups. Most me thing ever, right down to me needing to pee real fast first.
Dear Diary,
August 13th was the most wasted day of my entire life. Last night, I stayed up until 1 a.m. on my phone. Suddenly, I got a weird stomachache. It just wouldn't cease. It was terrible. Extremely painful, as if there was a heavy rock on my stomach. I was too scared to go wake up my parents.
I stayed awake because of the pain until around 3 a.m., after which I just passed out from exhaustion. My sleep wasn't good. I was half-awake most of the time and had a dream of trying to find "the culprit behind the stomachache." According to this weird dream, there was a musical artist whose song suddenly made everyone who listened to it gain a terrible stomachache. The plot of the dream was attempting to take down this terrible artist who inflicted such pain on so many people.
I fully woke up at 5:30, once again, because of that pain. I drank some Advil, which did not help whatsoever.
At 7:00, my mom woke up and found me already up, pale and gaunt. She tried to help me with everything she could, brewed me chamomile tea, gave me yogurt with probiotics and some more medications to help. I burst out crying because of the intensity of the pain.
But it still wouldn't stop.
I went back into bed, trying to get more sleep... I was running on two and a half hours of sleep, for goodness' sake! I didn't get good sleep, just a half-awake nap.
When I woke up again, I had a better breakfast, discussed my terrible stomachache, and complained about it quite a lot.
I ate my lunch, then dinner, then we watched a movie and went outside. There I listened to some songs while riding around on my bike. Momentarily, on that bike, I was happy. My depression kind of... evaporated. Only good thing today.
Today I drank three different types of pills, drank chamomile tea on four-five different occasions, and cried once.
The entire day, I reminisced about the wonderful times when I wasn't tortured by an intense and mysterious stomachache.
I have done basically nothing. Whatsoever. The pain prevented me from being productive.
In any case, in one hour it will be a full 24 hours of stomachache. Yes, my stomach still hurts (although much, much less), and I have no idea why. It's terrible. I wish it would pass.
Sincerely,
Nana 🌷
Day 1 - Getting to DC
Sunday, July 16, 2023, 5:00 AM
I love the "word " resilient" and yesterday - that word refined us!! We were going to meet at 10:00 but all kinds of things got in the way from weather to pharmacies - and it was much closer to 11:30 before the whole gang was together. Finally at noon we had our first meeting to go over the "agenda" and define city and Metro safety procedures.
We headed out to eat at the new Mexican restaurant near-by and then to the airport for our 3:35 flight. PERFECT!! Everything on schedule. Just as we pulled into the airport I got a text saying our flight was delayed until 3:55. No BIG deal. We checked in and headed to our gate. New text - delayed until 4:11. OK - still no big deal - but this triggered a couple modifications regarding the pizzas I had ordered to be delivered at 6:30. We would not be able to stop at the store for a couple of items, as planned, so we went to shopping in the airport stores where we had the privilege of overpaying - big time - for the things we would need BEFORE our big grocery order would be delivered tomorrow morning between 7:00 and 9:00 AM. 🤞🏻 We should still be arrive at the hotel in time for pizza - but it would be close. I called the hotel to notify them. The assured me they would accept it, tip the delivery person and put it in our suite. CHECK! We just had to pass the time before it was time to board. Easy-Peasy...
Finally they called our boarding zone and we were ready to go.
The plane was FREEZING but we were ready to roll - BUT then mother nature decided to delay us once again.
The rain was pouring down - but it was lightening that caused the ground crew to stop loading the luggage - so our delay continued. FINALLY at 5:05 we pulled away from the gate. The pilot told us to hold our to our hats and keep those seatbelts on because we were going to experience turbulence. We did - but not enough to interrupt what we were doing and for me that meant taking a nap.
I - having done this before - knew to pick seats on the left side of the plane - and I was rewarded with the kids exuberance as they saw the mall and the Washington Monument as we prepared to land.
Long story short - we got our luggage, got on the Metro and got to our hotel around 7:30.
No pizza. I called and they said - they would send the driver out again. Finally, 2 hours later, we got pizza from a different place and my $85.00 dollars from the first crappy place was refunded. Now I was upset - but everyone else was relaxed. I brought snacks, including peanut butter and sliced peppers and power bars - so no one starved but.... My best laid plans....
We watched Hidden Figures as planned... This is such a great movie based on the true story of a group of Black Women and their critically important and well hidden role in NASA during the Mercury Space flight time. This is great prep for our visit to The African American Museum of History AND The Air and Space Museum. Next up on the very small screen - Part 1 of Apollo 13.
By 10:45 the kids looked like this.
Daphne and I were close on their heels. The kids are excited about today and that excitement fills my heart and soul.
Up today is a visit to Planet Word - complete with a Word Box puzzle - a cruise on the Potomac, The Smithsonian Portrait Gallery where we will see the presidents formal portraits - and dinner in China Town.
Life is good! We are ready!!!
Fic: A Woman Scorned - Part 13
Fic: A Woman Scorned - Part 13
Pairing: Billy Russo x Reader
Rating: R for language and smut.
Words: ~3000 words.
Summary: You’ve been sleeping with Billy Russo for a few months now. Knowing his aversion to emotional commitments, you’re satisfied with your clandestine arrangement until you catch him having dinner with Dinah Madani one night. Then it finally dawns on you. It’s not that he doesn’t want to commit, he just doesn’t want to commit to *you*.
Billy may think he knows you, but he has no idea what he’s just lost...
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9
Part 10 Part 11 Part 12
Part 13
It was 8 in the evening and you were still in the office. You hadn’t accomplished much work today, your mind mostly focused on Billy. You were surprised by how quickly he’d been able to make the funeral arrangements for his mother. Yesterday you had driven over to the nursing home and by the time you reached there, Carla Russo’s body had already been picked up. You’d signed a few papers for Billy and picked up the remainder of Carla’s things before you returned home. Everything of hers was packed into a small suitcase and sitting in your living room. You wanted to call him, ask him how he was and offer your support, but he seemed determined to do everything on his own when you’d talked to him last and you didn’t want to intrude.
You gave yourself a mental shake, reminding yourself to concentrate. This workday had been a wash. When you weren’t distracted by thoughts of Billy, you were putting out fires in your team. At least the personnel conflicts have been temporarily resolved, but now you needed to work on a slide deck that you’d been tasked with presenting to the executive leadership committee later in the week.
An hour later you were halfway done with your presentation when your phone rang. You glanced down at your screen to find Billy’s name on the screen. “Hi.”
“Hey.” He sounded exhausted. “You still at work?”
“Yeah. How did you know?”
There was a pause. “You give off the workaholic vibe.”
You smiled to yourself; at least he was okay enough to crack jokes. “How are you?”
“You mean am I grieving over a goddamn dead woman who preferred meth to her own fucking son?” He sighed. “No big loss. I’m fine.”
Anger and hurt saturated his voice despite his attempts to sound unaffected. Your heart hurt for him, you wished there was something you could do. “Do you need anything?”
“The funeral service is tomorrow.” A beat of silence followed. “Do you want to come?”
“Sure. What time?”
“2pm.”
“I’ll take the day off. Do you need my help with anything? Maybe I can call some of her friends?”
“When I found her she was living on the streets, barely alive but still hooked on meth. I doubt she’s got any friends.”
“What about the people in the nursing home? Maybe they want to come?”
“No, I don’t want anyone else there. Just you.”
Not liking the warmth that spread through you upon hearing his words, you reminded yourself he was probably feeling unusually vulnerable. This wasn’t typical of him.
“Do you want to come over?” he asked.
You exhaled a heavy sigh. “I would but I have so much work to do. I’ll be here for another hour at least.”
“Come over after you’re done.”
“It’ll be really late.”
“That’s fine. I can wait.”
“I can stop by my place to pick up your mom’s-.”
“No, it’s okay.”
You realized he wasn’t quite ready to go through Carla’s belongings yet.
“Bring your stuff with you.”
“Stuff?”
“Overnight bag, clothes for tomorrow, whatever.”
“Oh. You want me to stay over?”
“Yeah, might as well. We can drive over together for the service tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Despite the conversation coming to a natural end, he wasn’t hanging up. It seemed as if he was reluctant to be alone, probably because that meant dealing with the complicated emotions for his mother. You knew exactly how that felt. “If you want, I can leave now. I can work from your apartment instead of the office.”
“You’re not worried I’ll be tempted to spy on Valiant stuff?” he teased.
You smiled. “As if I’d let you see what I’m working on.”
“Guess no corporate espionage for me tonight.”
“Still going to keep you away from my laptop.”
He chuckled. “Just get here. I promise not to bug you while you work.”
“Okay. I’m leaving now.”
“See you soon.”
After you hung up, you started gathering your things together.
***
An hour later, you were at his place. When he opened the door, you immediately grew concerned at how tired he looked. Traveling back and forth from Vegas plus dealing with the news about Carla’s death within the last few hours meant he was absolutely exhausted.
“Hey,” he greeted you, smiling as he took the overnight bag from your hands.
You removed your heels while he took your bag inside his room and then made your way to his living room. While his penthouse suite was much bigger than yours, you actually didn’t like it very much. Despite the high-end finishes and the beautiful interiors - Billy had obviously hired a designer to make the place look good - it always felt very cool and inhospitable to you. It was too perfect and you always felt out of place inside the suite.
“You hungry?” he asked, coming up behind you. “I ordered dinner for you.” Arms encircling your waist, he dropped a kiss on the back of your head as he maneuvered you to the kitchen. He’d laid out the food for you on the dining table, and from the take-out containers you knew it was from one of your favourite Indian restaurants. The thoughtful gesture surprised you, you weren’t used to that from him. Noting that he’d only set the table for one, you turned around to look at him. “You’re not going to eat with me?”
“I ate already. I was starving. Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry.” You cradled his face with one hand, your eyes roving over his beautiful face as he placed a kiss on the fleshy part of your palm. “You look exhausted. Did you even sleep?”
“No” He leaned back against the kitchen counter, weary. For a moment he closed his eyes, simply holding still, and you found yourself wrapping your arms around him in a hug. You didn’t understand why you’d even initiated the embrace – hugs were never your thing – but seeing him so beaten-down you were desperate to comfort him. He leaned into you, his body flushed against yours, and you held him tight. Stroking the nape of his neck, you placed a soft kiss on the center of his forehead. “Why don’t you take a nap while I work?”
“You don’t mind?”
You smiled up at him, running your fingers through his hair. “At least I don’t have to worry about you stealing my company secrets while you sleep.”
He smirked. “You’ll be here when I wake up?”
“Yup. Probably still working away.”
Billy grazed your temple softly before dropping a tender kiss on the tip of your nose. “Okay, but eat first.”
You nodded your head, watching after him as he sauntered out of the kitchen and disappeared down the hallway.
Sighing, you went to the sink to wash your hands before eating.
***
It was after midnight and you were still working on your slide deck when you heard Billy puttering around in the bathroom. Soon he slowly made his way towards you, dressed in a t-shirt and black boxers, his hair all messy. He yawned lazily, falling onto the other end of the couch.
“I thought you’d sleep through the night,” you remarked.
“Are you still working?” he asked.
“Almost done.” You saved the file and shut off the laptop before slipping it back inside your bag.
Suddenly he pulled you closer and you found yourself tucked underneath him on the couch as he glanced down at you from above. “You work too hard.”
You smiled up at him. “They don’t pay me the big bucks to sit there and look pretty.”
A slow, incandescent smile curved his lips. “I would. If I ran Valiant, you’d be my personal stress relief. You’d be in my office the entire time and do nothing but look pretty and service me.”
“That’s sexual harassment.”
Billy shrugged his shoulders. “Whatever. I’d make it worth your while.”
You laughed, angling up to kiss him. “Your breath is all minty fresh.”
“I brushed my teeth for you.”
“Wow. Be still my heart.”
A warm grin covered his face as he shifted down your body to nuzzle your neck. His weight was heavy as he rested atop you, but you liked the solid feel of him on you, the way you felt all safe and warm. You stroked his hair while he drew lazy circles on your chest, the silence between you two comforting.
“No one knows about her. Not Frank, not Curtis, no one.”
Those names were familiar to you because Billy had mentioned them in passing a few times. Of course he’d never shared any other info, but you being you, you’d dug around and found out more about them. You knew they’d served with Billy and he considered them his closest friends.
“When I found her three years ago, I put her in that home and forgot all about her.”
“You visited her every week,” you reminded him.
“Because I wanted her to regret abandoning me. I wanted her to see how far I’d come, I wanted to throw her mistakes in her face. But I don’t think she regretted safe-havening me, not even a bit.”
The bitter pain in his voice made your heart hurt for him.
“Maybe I should be happy she’s finally dead, or maybe I’m supposed to be sad or something.”
“How do you actually feel?”
“Nothing. I feel nothing.”
“Billy, I think that’s normal. There’s no right or wrong in this. All of your feelings are valid.”
“Even if her dying made me absolutely ecstatic? You wouldn’t think I was a fucking psychopath?”
“You are a psychopath but not because you have conflicting emotions about your terrible mother dying. You have the right to feel how you feel about her, whatever that might be.”
Eyes blazing with emotion, he hovered about you to meet your gaze. “Then what makes me a psychopath?”
You quirked your eyebrow. “The fact you want to torture my dates.”
“Not just torture, I want to kill them.” Eyes darkened, voice velvety-smooth, he covered your mouth with his and ravaged you with a kiss that left you thrumming and breathless.
“Only you’re allowed to touch me?” you asked through labored breaths.
“Yes.” His voice was a lustful rasp, his mouth leaving a heated trail as he sucked on the oh-so-sensitive corner of where your neck and shoulder intersected. Sparks of electricity ran down your spine. “Only me.”
You took his hand and guided it down your body, parting your thighs for him.
Like always, you were soon completely lost in the erotic pleasure of his mouth on you. Your legs hooked over his shoulders, your hands grabbed the back of the couch for support as he fucked you with his hands and mouth, sucking you, licking you, his tongue flicking over your clit until you were keening under him. Body arching off the couch, you moaned his name louder and louder until he drove you completely over the edge.
Then you felt a light slap on your cunt which immediately brought you back to reality. Opening your eyes, you found Billy perched between your legs, gracing you with the most wicked smile. “That’s one.” He slapped your pussy again, this time his long, lean fingers ever so slightly grazing your clit and your hips bucked, wanting more. “As promised.” His eyebrow quirked up. “Punishment.”
“Not fair,” you protested. “I’ll date who I want.”
He slapped you again, a little harder this time, but then he leaned down to place comforting kisses on the very spots he assaulted and you moaned with pleasure.
“All of you.” His tongue lapped over your clit, eyes locked with yours. “Belongs to me. I own you.”
“You don’t!” You squealed when he flipped you over unexpectedly, grabbing you by the hips so your ass was lifted of the couch. And then he squeezed your butt cheeks, biting them lightly before he started rimming you.
***
After sharing a shower the two of you were laying in his bed, your back pressed against his chest as you both stared up at the ceiling. His one hand was intertwined with yours, the other arm circled around your hips. The two of you didn’t have sex but you didn’t mind. You were both fatigued.
“I smell like you now,” you murmured, realizing the soap in his shower had left its scent on you.
“I know. I like it.” He squeezed your fingers. “I have a present for you.”
“I hope it’s not earrings again.”
He chuckled. “No, not earrings.”
“What is it then?”
“Jewelry.”
You turned back to look at him. “What? Like a necklace?”
“Something like that. Except I’m the only one who’ll see you wearing it.”
“Ah. And where is this gift?”
He kissed the top of your head. “Not here yet.”
You smiled to yourself. “People usually wait until they have the gift in hand before telling others about it.”
“I couldn’t wait. I’m excited to see you wear it.”
He stroked your hair, and your eyes grew heavy. Soon you started falling into deep slumber, feeling calm, comforted by Billy’s arms around you.
“What happened with your family?”
Your eyes flew open. Like always, any mention of your family unfurled anxiety within you. You didn’t like thinking about them letting alone discussing them. “They passed away.”
“They’re dead?”
“Yes.”
“Both of them?”
“Yes.”
He pulled you up so you were facing him now, his intoxicating gaze completely focused on you. “That day when I asked you about the pictures, you said you weren’t close to your family.”
“I meant my extended family. I don’t keep in touch with them,” you replied smoothly.
“What were your parents like?”
Irritation surged through you at his obtrusive questions but you had to remind yourself he just lost his mother. He was feeling out-of-sorts, working through his grief – even if he didn’t think so – and he was reaching out to the only person in his life that knew about his mother. “Normal.”
He simply stared at you for a long time, studying you, saying nothing. “Normal,” he repeated, finally breaking the strained silence.
You shrugged your shoulders, dropping your gaze to the base of his throat so you didn’t have to hold his piercing stare. “Yup.”
“How did they die?”
“Car accident.”
“You miss them?”
“Of course,” you lied.
He reached out to cup your face, his thumb stroking your cheek. “So you grew up with great parents, white picket fence and all that bullshit? Sounds like you had a fairytale childhood.”
“Can we talk about this tomorrow? I’m really tired.”
“Sure. I’ll add this to the list of all the other shit we’ll talk about someday.”
He sounded almost angry with you and you weren’t sure why. Before you could question him, however, he pulled you close so you were snuggled against his chest and the warmth of his body was enough to silence your brain and lull you to sleep.
***
It was a cold, crisp autumn day in New York. The outdoor service, attended by only you and Billy, was short and quick. Throughout it, he’d gripped your hand even though he’d been outwardly calm and collected. Even now as he stood a few feet away from you, impeccably dressed in a black suit, his dark eyes hidden behind a pair of aviator sunglasses as he stared out at the pond, you sensed he was a complete mess inside. You didn’t know what to say to him so you simply sat on the bench, both of you in an isolated corner of the garden. Eventually he came to sit beside you, taking your hand in his.
“I’d have given her the whole world.” His voice was filled with pain and longing as he removed his sunglasses and tucked them in the upper pocket of his suit. “I would have given her anything she ever wanted.” Billy’s eyes met yours. “If she’d just wanted me.”
You scooted closer to wrap your arms around him, breathing him in as he sunk into you. His hands caressed your back, his grip on you so tight you almost couldn’t breathe. After a while he rested his forehead against yours, his eyes holding you prisoner in front of him.
“Swear to me you’ll never leave.”
“Billy-”
“Promise me!”
“I can’t.”
“It wasn’t a fucking request, Y/N.”
You tried to pull away from him but he fisted the back of your hair, holding you in place.
The raw urgency in his voice played havoc with your emotions. If you closed your eyes, just for a moment, you could shut out all the doubts in your head and simply believe him - but you could only live the fantasy for a short moment before reality forced its way back in. “You don’t mean those words, Billy.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Because you don’t feel that strongly about me.”
His eyes narrowed, glaring at you with hostility. “You’re gonna tell me how I feel?”
“I’m not what you want.”
“And what do you think I want?”
You gave him a sad smile. “The best of everything. Best car, best clothes, the most beautiful women in your arms. You want all that because you need others to want what you have.”
“Is that so wrong?”
You shook your head. “No, there’s nothing wrong with that – except I don’t fit into any of those categories. You want a woman like Dinah Madani. I’m not her. So eventually this thing between us will end.”
His jaw was set in a grim line, eyes burning bright with rage. “So you have me all figured out, huh?”
“Don’t get mad. You know it’s the truth.”
He yanked you closer, crushing you against him. “It’s been me against the world for as long as I can remember. But when I look at you.” His eyes softened, mouth parting as his dark gaze roamed over your face. “I don’t feel alone anymore.”
Your heart melted. The tenuous handle you had on your self-control disintegrated completely. You closed your mouth over his, kissing him frantically as he picked you up and straddled you across his lap.
He pulled back to look at you. “You’re my home. You’re all I need.”
aizawa calling you clingy - gn reader
- [attempt at] angst to fluff
- warnings: being called clingy, aizawa gets annoyed with reader and berates them, one use of the word ‘shit’
- wc: 1.9k
a/n: this wasnt......as sad as i wanted... i cant tell if im just not so good at writing angst or immune to it T_T
once again, not edited!
#! aizawa!!!! eee
#! hes a levelheaded man so arguments are rare
#! u both trust one another so theres no reason to have doubts in ur relationship
#! being his s/o, he tells u things thats not so easy to tell others over time, and you’re patient enough to let him take however much time he needs to let u in
#! however, years of keeping to himself most of the time doesnt just disappear even if you’re his s/o
#! so aizawa does have this tendency to close off and distance himself from u bc of his stress and insecurities
walking through the spacious halls of ua, you were headed towards your lovely boyfriend. aizawas been pretty busy lately with teaching his class, making sure no one is being left behind progress wise, doing his job as a pro-hero, and then spending his free time training with shinsou.
you knew showing up at school unexpectedly was something aizawa found irky, that’s why you made sure to tell him the night before that you would be coming during lunch time to bring him some yummy homemade food.
humming softly to yourself, you finally reached the door opening to class 1-A and walked in. the classroom was empty, but there at the front was no one other than mr. aizawa shouta. you quickly greeted him with a smile and he turned to look at you.
“what are you doing here?” he slowly asked with a look of confusion.
“i brought you some food! did you eat yet? i hope not, i made-,” you quickly stopped talking once you noticed the look he was giving you.
“why are you here? i already told you, you shouldnt be showing up without letting me know first. our relationship is quiet, if the students see they’ll get noisy and ask questions, i’ll get bombarded by my colleagues, and it’ll put you in danger if words get out. did anyone see you coming here? can you listen to me for once instead of continuing to always be near me? you’re so damn clingy and need to start thinking about the consequences your action will bring. i already ate, just go home before anything happens.”
your jaw dropped a little after hearing what he just said to you. did he not remember what you told him last night?
worst of all, you couldnt believe he just called you clingy. you just wanted to do something nice for him by making his favorite food hoping that it’ll relieve some of the stress thats been building up, but he just thought of you as clingy.
fine, if clingy is what you are then you’ll stop bothering him. you quickly whispered an apology, not sure if he could hear or not, and began making your way back home as fast as possible. the food you made for him was still tightly grasped in your hand.
due to the new dormitories, aizawa stays at ua majority of the time. he comes home to your shared apartment whenever he can to spend time with you. unfortunately, those time aren’t usually much because as soon as he’s free, he’s quick to do something else.
once you’ve made it home, you packed the food away and put it in the fridge. you felt your phone buzzing repeatedly, already guessing who it could possibly be, you took it out to see it was your boyfriend.
shou <3: im sorry
shou <3: honey, im so sorry. pls text me back when u can
shou <3: i know what i said hurted u, but i promise u i dont mean it. pls just call me or text me so we can talk about this
shou <3: i have to go back now. but i love u. so much.
staring at your screen, you contemplated texting him back.
letting out a sigh, you decided not to.
putting your phone to the side, you walked to the bedroom and changed out of your clothes into the comfy pjs you were wearing right before you left.
seeing that there was nothing for you to do other than wallow in your insecurities and let out a few tears, you got into bed and made yourself comfortable for an afternoon nap.
aizawa on the other hand was at school and distracted. his own words kept replaying over and over in his head and all he wants to do is smack himself a few times (after comforting u ofc).
his students could tell he was in a badder mood than usual so they collectively agreed to not worsen it (one particular student does not care. can u guess?). aizawa just wanted the day to pass so he can apologize to you directly and make it up with some cuddling.
despite being distracted with planning his apology and thinking about you, he was still teaching as he should and constantly telling his students to be quiet because he’s intimidating like that.
a few hours passed, the students are back in their dorms and some of the teachers are still in school finishing up some work. the hallways were empty and silent, and the weather outside was nice and calm - not too sunny with just the right amount of wind.
however, if you were to peek your head inside of class 1-A at the moment, the environment is an exact 180. aizawa is quickly trying to grade the remaining stack of papers he has on his desk so he can leave as soon as he can. there’s papers everywhere, he’s not so sure where the answer key went off to but to hell with the answer key. he just needs to go home.
his hair is messily tied up and his lips have probably been gnawed off by now. as soon as school ended, he got out his phone to see if you replied and sadly you didn’t. he doesn’t blame you though, considering all of the shit he said to you earlier.
finally writing down the fat score in red pen onto the final paper, he gathers everything and put to the side of his desk and packed up his stuff. his stuff being his yellow sleeping bag and that’s it.
he went to his room first to clean himself up a bit, and then grabbed a taxi to go to your shared apartment. arriving at the front door, he takes out his copy of the key and entered.
first thing he noticed while entering and taking off his shoes was that the apartment was dark and quiet. he made his way to the kitchen first and turned on its lights to check the fridge. in the fridge laid the food you made for him earlier today. he took it out to start heating it up in the microwave then he walks away from the food and to your bedroom.
quietly opening the door, he poked his head in to see you laying on your side with your back facing the door. he assumed you were asleep and gently closed the door to not wake you up. he made his way over to the bed and sat on the edge of it.
you, feeling the bed dip, slowly opened your eyes to be greeted with the sight of your boyfriend gingerly brushing his fingertips across your cheekbones. he notices that you’re awake and looks up to meet your eyes.
making eye contact with him, you quietly grunted and brought the blanket up to cover your face while turning your entire body to the other side to ignore him. aizawa sighed and brought his hand down to rest on your waist as he begins talking.
“yn... i know you’re.. mad at me for the things i said to you earlier, but i’m truly sorry. i know saying i didn’t mean it isn’t good enough for you to forgive me, but i want you to know i’m really really sorry. i’ve been so busy for the past few days, my head is all over the place, seeing you at school just got me overthinking and worried that i ended up saying things about you that’s not true at all. i love you so much, hun. you’re the best thing to happen to me. you don’t have to forgive me now, i understand if you want some space.”
it was silent for some time after he finished his apology. the echoing silence was slowly making aizawa worried that you’ll leave him, but he won’t tell you that. thinking that you wanted space, he lifted his shaky hand off of your waist and moved to get off of the bed when you suddenly grabbed onto his hand to keep him there.
“i...i told you the day before that i was going to be visiting you during lunch time. did you not remember? or even hear me tell you?”
aizawa situated himself back down onto the bed before replying. “if i’m being honest, i don’t really remember much of that day at all. my brain was occupied with work and rest, so i was practically drained by the end of the night. i’m sorry i took it out on you, it’s my fault for overworking when i know you’ve been trying to help.”
letting out a soft sigh, you turned your body back towards him. still holding onto his hand, you carefully slotted your fingers in between his and pulled him down to lay with you. he immediately found comfort in this and placed his head into your neck. you could feel his facial hair against your skin making you let out a quiet giggle.
“i love you. i know you have a habit to overwork since that’s all you did before we dated, but please shou, take care of yourself. im not talking physically, cuz you’re already so damn fine, but mentally. i hate seeing you bury yourself in work and training that it even makes me tired just watching you.”
he grumbled something against your neck - his usual reaction to you complimenting him - and held onto you tighter while putting light kisses on your collarbone.
“i know. i will. please bear with me, i know i’m a pain but i’ll always try to be my best for you. i’m never letting you go, love you too much for that.”
“hmm? who said i’m going? you’re stuck with me forever just so you know,” you laughed and patted his head before rising from the bed.
“i heard you heating up the food earlier. get up and come eat,” you tugged aizawa to get him off the bed.
he grumbled once again because he was being forced to leave the warm comfort of your shared bed, but followed you out anyway holding onto your hand.
“wait. you heard me entering? so you were pretending to sleep when i got here?! not funny, babe. not funny. -also don’t take sleep for granted. i did and look where that got me. stop laughing!”
bonus:
it was the next day and aizawa just finished passing out the grades he rushed grading yesterday. even though it was rushed, he was confident that there wasn’t any mistakes-
“aizawa sensei, you marked this question wrong when it’s right. this one too. and this other one on the last page. are you trying to fail me?!” denki dramatically wailed as he showed aizawa his papers.
guess he did make mistakes after all.
Day 37: Newbury, OH to Meadville, PA
64 miles, 2,474ft ascent, 3:30
Let’s start with the good news… for the first time in a few weeks everyone is back on the bike and feeling well. Also, no one was assaulted by an automobile and due to today’s short mileage, we got to sleep late.
Today’s challenge was navigating a tight weather window and a destination hotel which has been prickly about early check-ins in the past. Most of the riders would prefer to get going as soon as possible and a few grumbled about the late start, but the guides want to avoid riders waiting hours for a hotel room. The forecast radar showed a storm front passing over our destination around 2:00; my ‘A’ pace group was the last to get started at 10:30 on the day’s 64 mile course with two refueling stops. If you’re doing the mental math like I did, you know it’s going to be close.
We had the benefit of a strong tail/crosswind for most of the ride, strong enough that I cringed whenever I saw the Garmin instruct a left turn to the North. I skipped both the refueling stops in order to save time and on a flat course I would have made it, but the 2,474ft ascent shaved enough pace off my progress that I still had 4 miles to go when the skies opened up. I arrived at the hotel wet but happy that a room and lunch were waiting for me.
Aside from the rain, today’s ride was great. I love riding fast and the scenery as we passed from Ohio to Pennsylvania was bucolic. We are in Amish country again, marked by tidy white farm houses, occasionally with a bit of green trim and frequently laundry hanging from a line to dry. Whether old or young, the Amish took time from tending fields, hanging laundry or guiding a team of horses to return my wave. They prefer not to photographed so I didn’t.
Let’s talk about the daily routine in a bit more detail:
Arrival at the destination:
- Bags and a bike rack are waiting by the hotel entrance as well as the standard snack table and coolers. The first thing I do is grab my smaller day-bag, change into street shoes, make a Skratch protein shake and put this in my bag along with other snacks/drinks for the afternoon and evening.
- Check into the hotel and take my bags and bike to my room.
- Hang my sweaty gear in the closet to dry, take a shower, change into casual clothes, and drink the protein shake, etc. I’m pretty efficient and all of this is usually done within 15-20 minutes of arrival and then I either take a nap, or once every 3 days, do laundry.
- Dinner is usually at the hotel around 6, though occasionally we will visit a restaurant nearby.
- Charge devices (Garmins, phone, pedals)
- I try to update social media after dinner, talk with Beth, Netflix and then it’s lights out by 9:30.
Mornings are busier and it took me a while to master the ‘perfect departure’.
T- 1:30: breakfast is usually available starting between 6-6:30. No one in the group skips breakfast and there is a line when the door opens.
T- 1:00: Dress in bike gear appropriate for the day’s weather, repack bag. I‘m using vacuum seal bags to ensure that my dirty bike clothes don’t funkify the rest of my clothes between washings.
T - 45: Clean bike bottles and secure them as well as the fully charged Garmins to the bike.
T - 30: Take suitcase to the luggage van
T - 15: Tip the housekeeper and take bike and day bag to the departure area. Store day bag in Trek van.
T - 10: Fill bottles with ice, water and Noon; apply sunscreen, clean sunglasses, take a picture of the whiteboard with details on water stops; retrieve fully charged front and rear bike lights; check bike tire pressure.
T - 5: Start Garmins, ensure mine is paired with HR monitor and power meter.
T - 1: Receive exit and route instructions from Trek guide.
That’s pretty much the routine for the 47 days of the trip, with a bit more flexibility for the rest days. It’s great. You don’t have to worry about anything; all the logistics and food are handled, you just have to pedal for a few hours each day.
I’m not sure exactly where the Midwest ends and the East begins, but seeing the Dunkin Donuts adjoining our hotel makes think I must have already crossed that invisible line!
197. "I was born to be yours."
198. "Isn't it a bit too cliché?"
199. "So, you're just kissing strangers for no apparent reasons?"
200. "You'll always be my favourite person."
201. "You're making it weird, stop making it weird."
202. "There's nothing I love more than running back into your arms."
203. "I'm yours. Forever."
204. "You always know how to cheer me up."
205. "I... I lost the ring."
206. "Will you be mine?"
207. "Darling, you look perfect tonight."
208. "You saved my life."
209. "Don't give me that look. No... NO! I said no puppy dog eyes! You know I can't resist them! Argh, fine!"
210. "I missed you and your bad puns and even your horrible cooking and the way you fit perfectly against my body when we cuddle. I just really missed you."
211. "We're a team, remember?"
212. "There's no place I'd rather be than by your side."
213. "Your smile brightens the whole room."
214. "I kinda adopted a puppy behind your back... don't be mad! Look at those cute fluffy paws!"
215. "You're burning up. Guess I need to activate my nurse mode."
216. "I love you. As in more than friends, more than best friends and more than super extra best friends."
217. "I love you just the way you are."
218. "We need to kick his ass, no questions asked. You in?"
219. "Hot chocolate and cuddles? Kisses?"
220. "You make me feel pretty."
221. "You'll always be my best girl."
222. "Never hide yourself from me."
223. "Babe! There's no toilet paper!"
224. "I'll never give up on you."
225. "Do you feel that shirt? That's boyfriend material."
226. "That prank went so wrong."
227. "Care to dance, my love?"
228. "AH! You're stuck with me!"
229. "You're too good to me."
230. "Is it that time of the month?"
231. "Can I braid your hair?"
232. "It's okay to have doubts, as long as you don't let them overwhelm you."
233. "Come here! I can't stand to be so far away from you!"
234. "I got you."
235. "I wanna fall asleep next to you every night and wake up every morning with you by my side."
236. "Stop, I need to finish this!"
237. "I just wanna binge watch The Office, but it's not the same without you."
238. "Because I care about you!"
239. "I just wanted to impress you."
240. "I love you even though your breath stinks right now."
241. "Did you just puke on me?"
242. "We should get drunk and do stupid things."
243. "I always know what you're thinking about, babe. You're like an open book!"
244. "Could you sing to me?"
245. "I, uh, could you... could you play with my hair, please?"
246. "Nooooo, don't leave! I'm cold!"
247. "I think you're suffering from a lack of vitamin me."
248. "A mistletoe? Really?"
249. "Will you join me, love?"
250. "I have feelings for you."
251. "You are the reason."
252. "Take my hand, I wanna show you something..."
253. "You have a lovely name."
254. "You're my everything."
255. "You do know a lot about my blushing schedule."
