Today I am going to yap about my story that I like to call "the idiot plot" or more lately "the dragon story"

Once upon a time there is a girl called Christine, she lives in a town and is 17. Every 10 years the kingdom send an envoy to each town, village and city to test who is going to be the next Dragon Rider. And Christine never believes that she'd ever get to become one, because there are a lot of young people in her hometown, and the cutoff age for a dragon selecting you is from 10 to 25, and they make the older ones go first.

In order to make up for her lack of pre-destined greatness, Christine works hard at her fathers smithing business and becomes renown for her creativity in the tools she makes.

Anyhoo shes 17 now. Its finally her turn to get selected by the dragon. They let her take the egg home (standard procedure dictates that each person gets to keep the dragon egg for 24 hours to see if they hatch)(the egg shells are sturdy and dont break easily) and guess what? The egg hatches.

The dragon that emerges is a pearly white female the size of your hand, thin, tiny and delicate. When Christine moves to touch its head, the dragon emits a very loud NO! and explains that theres a better dragon waiting for her, yes shes seen christine and thinks her worthy, just not worthy of the dragon. And this stings for Christine, but she hides it well

So, it's like, if the egg hatches in your care, you are chosen as the Dragon Rider? And the dragons automatically determine whoever hatched the eggs is worthy? And Christine hatches the egg, but the dragon, while saying Christine is worthy, says she is not worthy of a dragon at all? Or is it more like, "there is a better dragon out there for you?" Or more like, "you are a worthy human because you are damn good at your craft?"

I am interested. Very interested. I, too, am writing about smithing right now. Good god, the amount of research. I learned about fold formed bowls yesterday. And how to make nails. Like, how you're supposed to draw out the metal and then upset it to get the head of the nail. I just need to find out what the special vice/jig that you use to cut the metal is called. When I try to write something I don't know, I go all out on research. I've been researching sword fighting too, good god.

Tell me more about it though! I would love to learn more!

Louis was mourning his brother, he felt like an utter failure and so he’s always seeking family, seeking people he can care for, he can coddle, he can prove he is good too, but he loves people who either cannot stand coddeling and need a sense of looseness to live (Lestat) or people who grow out of coddling who prove to Louis he will always fail the people he loves (Claudia), Claudias turning, in many MANY ways mirrors lestats in that it was against her will, she was stolen from her home, and in her immortality she desires freedom but unlike Lestat does not have the agency/ form to get it, she will always be small, she will always be looked down on, even by Lestat who cannot deny how much she is just like him *taps mic* ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME!! NONE OF THEM CAN BREAK THE CYCLE!!! TO BREAK IT WOULD BE TO UNDO THE VERY FIBER OF THEIR IMMORTAL SELVES!! THE CYCLE IS THE BLOOD THEY DRINK IT IS THE HEART IN THEIR CHEST AND IT ROLLS AND ROLLS DOWN THE MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS OF THEIR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER AND IT CAN NEVER BE STOPPED BECAUSE THEY WILL NEVER STOP LOVING EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!

i’ve started getting so unreasonably cranky at those posts that are like ‘i’m sick of [aspect of popular media] someone should make [opposite thing]!!!’ by people who don’t seem invested in the idea they’re pitching as anything beyond a subversion of the norm. like ok. i see where you’re coming from but where are you actually going. look me in the eyes and give me one good reason you think that story concept is possible to pull off

Got permanently banned from a subreddit for saying law enforcement shooting someone dead in the street was still a bad thing even when the victim was a violent right-wing fanatic.

Gotta say, I did not expect that to be such a controversial statement. So repeating it here: law enforcement shouldn't kill people. Even violent assholes have a right to be taken in alive, and it's a failure of practice and policy when someone is killed in the process of an arrest.

I will say I get the vibe that a lot of peoples interest and support for strikers is a bit too much for a vicarious ‘burn it down’ thrill, rather than for the actual goals of a strike.

Like UPS has agreed to come back to the table and it is very possible they will concede to Union demands and avert a strike. And if that happens (so long as the union does not make concessions on its key demands) it’s a good thing. It’s a victory for the laborers. It is the same ultimate conclusion that a strike would intend to produce except without the workers having to go on (not so great) strike pay for a week or two.
