The JL fight a magic user who casts a spell on everyone where their biggest weakness will be displayed above their heads. If Batman takes notes later, then that’s not on him.
There’s the predictable ones like Hal where it says ‘Yellow’, Clark says ‘Kryptonite’, and Martian Manhunter ‘Fire’.
But then there’s the one where you need to interpret like Flash halving ‘Bound’, the Hawks having ‘Clipped’ which pertains to their wings or even the ‘Pride’ on Doctor Fate.
What’s weird is that Batman and Captain Marvel of all people have the same word:
‘Adoption’
Little does everyone know that it’s for two entirely different reasons. Batman can’t help but adopt. Batson doesn’t want to be adopted.
No one knows Captain Marvel is secretly a kid, so everyone thinks he’s like Batman, but just doesn’t adopt (or thinks Freddy & Mary or the Vasquez kids are actually his if they are in AU). But for the sake of comedy, let’s not have them.
Batman thinks there is some kind of kinship, and asks how he battles the urge to adopt? Captain Marvel is trying really hard to not run away (he doesn’t want to get adopted, especially not by Batman, the puns enough are going to be atrocious).
It would look something like this:
Bruce: and that’s how I got all my kids. Or at least most of them. I’m not sure if technically family friends count, but they still got their parents, you know?
Billy, does not in fact know: yeah… darn those parents ammi right
Ollie, wondering if they should put Cap in the JL parent group: oh, do you have any kids?
Billy: oh no, I can’t (Cue misunderstandings)
Bruce: I understand the urge to adopt is real, good on you for not giving in. We live a dangerous life style
Billy: We’ll we can’t help the fae brain
Bruce: the what?
Billy, he just heard the term before and thought it was the common word: you know, when you just want to keep and raise a kid for yourself
Bruce, thinking of the numerous tales of witches and fae using first born children as payment only to realise it’s their way of adoption: … huh
Billy, just wants to escape and hug his tiger: oh it’s really fine. Anyways I need to bounce, but we’ll see each other on Mondays meeting
Proceeds to ruffle everyone’s hair (he can’t help it, he’s taller than anyone and enjoys the feeling of ruffling hair instead of having his hair ruffled)
Batman: oh OH
Cue most misunderstanding where they think Marvel mentally adopted them. They all have daddy issues anyways, so it really shouldn’t be a surprise when they try to be the fae brain favourite.
HAHA YOU THOUGHT YOU WERENT GETTING DAD MARVEL, BUT JUMPED ON THAT BANDWAGON THE SECOND IT CAME OUT

"It's very bold of you to turn up here with such a high bounty on your head. Bold and stupid. Shows that you are no different than any of the other clones."
This weekend my brain has been nothing but Hades2 and Boba Fett, so Happy May the 4th, enjoy the idea of this younger Boba meeting Omega in a spin-off version of my Hades AU
"old" Boba design (with Bobadin) - Boba and Omega WIP

chewing on this essay by helene foley, 'reverse similes and sex roles in the odyssey':
To keep an open place for Odysseus [Penelope] has symbolically stopped change on Ithaca. All the young men of the kingdom woo Penelope; they are thus prevented from maturing into husbands and warriors, potential rivals to Telemachus or Odysseus. [...] Yet in her effort to preserve Ithaca for Odysseus she cannot stop change entirely; thus the maturing of Telemachus creates increasing tensions for Penelope at the opening of the poem.
i like this concept of ithaca as unnaturally frozen in time, and penelope's struggle to maintain that very precarious in-between status quo for years.
mostly i enjoy that perspective of the obvious friction between telemachus and penelope in the odyssey. that process of keeping things unchanged is too delicate to survive telemachus' eventual maturity, and i think penelope understands that once her son starts being perceived as an adult, 1) he'll be in danger, and 2) the status quo will be changed, and so many things will inevitable be set in motion. but like, telemachus can't help but grow older! and of course he chafes at being stuck in a childlike role in his twenties, and in an ambiguous hierarchical position in his own home. the whole situation is stressful and unsatisfying to them both.

The fact that Calypso initially resented Leo just based on his looks. Because he didn’t look as “heroic” as Percy or Odysseus. Or Jason.
The fact that Leo already believed that he was a mistake. That he was worthless compared to the others, because he wasn’t the stereotypical “Hero”
You see it so many times in the books- Leo doesn’t think he’s as important as Jason or Percy because they’re your archetypal “Big Heroes” and Leo’s just the Lowly Mechanic, the Seventh Wheel, the Comedy Sidekick.
Calypso only reinforces that.
The fact that, in the end, when it comes down to Leo or Jason, Leo decides to take the prophecy into his own hands and end his life because ultimately it’s better the Repair Boy dies than someone who actually matters.
Calypso made Leo feel worthless. And Leo’s lack of self-worth (which I believe is his Fatal Flaw) is ultimately what drives his decision to sacrifice himself and save Jason.

Do you think it is possible for the other trolls to gaslight Eridan into do the murder for the right cause? E.g. not like the murderstuck in the canon but guiding his murderous direction to align with the purpose, using him as a disposable glass cannon and a cannon fodder to take down enemies? but not easily disposable due to seadweller's physical strength and his fighting skills. Not the optimal way to handle him but given that he needs some presence of others how will this scenario go?
no because i believe eridan is the specific type of idiot that you can't actually manipulate because he doesn't listen to people. god bless 🫡
#like there is a reason that smart and manipulative characters like terezi and vriska never try that shit with him#and its because he's easy to fool but he is really hard to control#he is like a train that has slipped its tracks and is coming directly at you#the train isnt very smart either but good luck redirecting it#this is in large part because he operates almost entirely on emotion and vibes#ultimately what sparks his breakdown isn't any logical loss of hope#but the FEELING of being completely abandoned and having nobody in his corner worth protecting or saving#and unfortunately - as we see with jake - hope player innate instincts are incredibly powerful#(it ties in with a general idea in homestuck that instincts are correct but naive & cynical realism is incorrect but mature#& a balance needs to be struck in order to be healthy happy and productive)#eridan is like usually bare minimum half-right about stuff#he's right when he identifies rose as the rich girl of the group#he's right when he identifies kanaya as having red feelings for vriska#he's right when he nearly points out how stupid karkat's past/future compartmentalization is#and. he's right to not actually be casteist#so you can pretty easily trick him; he's a kind of gullible idiot#but you can't play mind games with him & Logic and Facts and Rhetoric don't work either#the team might get him to martyr himself on the front lines by imploring him to help them because theyre sooo weak#but the thing is he would do that without being tricked into it. that's literally just the type of guy he already is#like that's what angel killing was in his mind - an extension of his orphaner duties#which (no matter how many contradictory and fallacious justifications he may make) were duties he performed to keep his friends safe#otoh literally nothing except reaching the absolute complete end of his emotional rope could make him give up on that#like compared to vriska and gamzee it took a FUCKTON to get eridan to snap#eridan ampora

i think the thing for me when it comes to izuna characterization (my personal take, there's no right or wrong interpretation of his 3 panels of screentime lol) is that i like to interpret him as actually very masculine and very traditionalist. i think he's fully committed to his idealized male self; it's just what that gender role looks like and acts like is extremely specific to the uchiha.

I'm reading Frankenstein, and the Monster is outright described as being yellow, so I'm curious about where the depiction of him being green came from.
However, I'm absolutely tickled by the idea of him being yellow while his bride is blue, to make Frankie's green.

kills me how long jo holds onto brad in breaking brad. like it’s really not until that final confrontation with zack that her loyalty to brad actually shatters and she starts seeing herself as the shark that’ll devour him. before then she still follows his direction, she’s devastated when she fails him, and she defends him and their relationship against even a suggestion that there might be a problem

dollyyyyyyy my beloved i'm so happy to see you back in the polin ao3 tag!! happy second day of colinweek i have a colin question!
do you prefer a blue eyed colin bridgerton or green eyed col b??? or even, the best of both worlds both? 😮
!!!! Oh, I love this question!!! (also, thank you! <3 <3 <3 I don't know how long I'll keep writing fic, but I'm here for now! and I definitely intend to finish all my WIPs)
Purely based on eyes, I love a green-eyed Colin. I think it makes him stand out more compared to his siblings, and there's so much I can do writing wise with green eyes, personally. I think more often than not, I tend to do a mix: brown starburst in the center, green in the mid, and a blue ring on the outskirts. A bit of a combination between book!Colin and show!Colin! I'm too much of a sucker for Luke Newton not to have a soft spot for his eyes, and he brought Colin to life so well. I wouldn't trade him for any other actor. He IS my Colin.
But based on what the eyes represent, I'm torn!!! I love show!Colin so much: his sensitivity and his warmth, how sweet he is, how earnest, how he goes into everything he does heart-first and empathizes so deeply. But I prefer book!Colin's age and storyline. I think it's more poignant to be 33 and unsure of your path, hungry for purpose, than 22. I mean, show!Colin is just starting out in the world a an adult. Of COURSE he's looking for purpose and hasn't found one. Near everyone does around that time. And hardly any of us find it.
But book!Colin, my green eyed baby boy, has tried it. He traveled and he studied and he ran and he came back and he was discontent and yearned for more He, like Penelope, needed a push to become more than what he was and had contented himself to be. Colin encourages Penelope to be more brave, and she does the same for him. I just find that moving. It's an important story for me, for lots of people, to make a career approaching mid 30s than it is to do so in early 20s. book!Colin becoming an author at 33 was lovely to read. Hell, that's still plenty young!
I also think book!Colin was written with more love than show!Colin was. Luke Newton did such an incredible job with show!Colin and took every minute opportunity to the fullest he possibly could, and THAT is what makes him so wonderful, not the writing. Yes, I loved how he represented demisexuality and how he rejected toxic masculinity, but I wish forever that he was given more time for that narrative to unfold. I think if the writers cared more deeply for him, we would have seen it play out with more of that narrative being explored. But you can tell that book!Colin is the author's favorite, and that does matter when it comes to how a character is read.
All in all, I love them both! There's pros and cons to both. But a bluegreen-eyed show!Colin who got more time to cook in the narrative and came into his season at 33? That's my ultimate heart's desire

for the most part i think powerscaling sonic characters is pointless and theres no objective answer to most questions of who is stronger or who would beat who in a fight because the truth is that the answer to those questions will always be determined by what works best for the story being told . however. it does kinda bug me when shadow is portrayed as significantly more powerful than all the other characters and people (whether it be official writers or people in the sonic fandom) act like none of the other characters stand a chance against him in a fight or whatever because thats just demonstrably not true. i mean yeah hes the ultimate lifeform but that doesnt mean everyone else is weak and powerless compared to him
