After it’s born, the alien sits there and settles its tentacles and feelers shifting around before…it decides…it’s not ready for the outside world just yet…and starts to move back towards your open legs…

As I lie back, panting, I feel a prodding at my sore vulva. "Baby? Baby, what are you--" As a feeler plunges back into my used hole, I groan in protest. "You're out, sweetie, just--just stay THERE--" Another joins it, until my alien offspring is worming its way slowly back into me. My cervix is already in the process of closing back up, and for a moment, the baby seems comfortable to stay entirely wedged in my birth canal, which makes my pelvis bulge obscenely. "G--get back out," I whimper, trying to bear down and push it out. Instead, it latches on its feeler to my cervix and resists, puffing out its body to stretch me even farther. "B-baby, please, please!" I cry.

It takes quite a few tries for it to find the closing hole that it came from, but when it does, my back arches so far I worry about something breaking. It's invading me again, coming back to the place it was made, and I'm not ready, not now, not yet!

More and more of its mass fills my belly out once again, and as the feelers begin to stimulate my walls, I can feel when the umbilical cord makes contact again. As the new placenta begins to fill with fluid, I reach down absently to my cunt. "W...welcome back," I pant in defeat, staggering back to bed.

Hands grip the hem of shirt shirt, ensuring he can't go anywhere. Sometimes she still has nightmares about him in that hospital bed. She remembers him going away and not coming home for weeks. Pepper had explained to her that he'd been hurt, had even taken her to see him in the hospital when he became more stable— it's stupid, she tells herself the same thing every time she has the dream, he's here, he's okay, but even now he's not the same.

Tony tries to hide it but she's his daughter, and perceptive as hell, and sometimes it scares her. She shuffles closer to him to bury her head in his chest, thankful for the physical comfort. " Dad. " She croaks out through her tears, the sobs slowing to sniffles. She doesn't want to tell him what the dream is about, doesn't want him to feel guilty. Forces herself to pull away and take a shaky breath, wiping under her ears to clear the tears as she blinks up at him with watery gaze. " I- I'm okay, it was just a bad dream. " she tries for a wobbly smile but it looks more like a grimace.

changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by “nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.

I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.

Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.

No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.

But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?

As someone with an undiagnosed disability (99% sure its fibromyalgia) that I've had since I was a little kid, I've never understood why adults feel the need to enter the Pain Olympics whenever a kid says they're in pain.

I cannot tell you how many times an adult told me over the years that "you're too young to be in that kind of pain" or the classic "wait until you're my age", insinuating that I was a little bitch who could never grasp what true pain really is.

Just yesterday I was in class and a guy near me mentioned that his back hurt, which our teacher heard and said "you're too young, just wait until your 50s, then it'll really hurt", and I hear this guy very quietly say that he has scoliosis.

It's so annoying. Why do you need to win the Pain Olympics? Why do you need to prove to a child that your life is harder than theirs? This is the reason I didn't know I had chronic pain until I was 16
