Thinking about this scene again, because do y'all understand??

This scene is one-of-a-kind.

This scene will never happen again.

And we could never, I mean never, get a scene like this in the games.

Because what do you mean Sonic and Shadow sat quietly together and genuinely talked about their trauma?

There was none of the banter that the game versions typically share. None of the pettiness or trying to outdo one another. None of the preconceived notions of each other's personalities that barred their potential friendship.

This scene, and those that followed, was what made the movie dynamic between these two my favorite, tied only with Sonic Prime.

This scene is quiet, tranquil, surprisingly so; considering only moments before this they were fighting to the death and Sonic nearly beat Shadow to death with his bare hands, and Shadow had wanted him to do it.

This scene is haunted with grief. But it's also brimming with raw, honest emotion. Seeing that kind of mood in a scene with just these two is absolutely amazing.

However talkative our little Sonic Wachowski can be, it was Shadow who broke the silence here. Sonic was understandably shaken by his own behavior, but still. He told Shadow the one simple thing, the reason he hadn't killed him when he easily could've: "There are no winners with revenge." And then he fell silent.

The way they sat silently, each lost in their own memories and grief, either staring at the ground or the stars.

Shadow broke the silence. It had provided the opportunity for open, honest communication. He was already his own mess, having seen what Sonic was going through. He'd initially used it to justify his own behavior, saying that Sonic had no right to fault him for dealing with his pain the way he was, since Sonic was making the same choices. Except in the end, when it really mattered, Sonic did make the right choice. He set the example on accident.

Completely isolated from anything that could possibly interrupt them, in literal space, Shadow finally had the freedom to share his trauma with someone who understood. Someone who'd lost his own loved one, and was in the position of possibly losing another. Shadow didn't ask for answers at first. He simply shared the memory of sitting with Maria under the stars, like they were in the present. He expressed his side in a way that no longer tried to justify it. He just said it as it was.

"I've felt this pain for so long... it's all I know."

Sonic didn't immediately try to correct him. He didn't even say that there was a better way, in that moment. Instead, he empathized with him. He understood. He validated him, without justifying all the violent things Shadow had done.

"When I lost Longclaw, I felt the same way."

And with that, Shadow had it in stone that Sonic had been through the same thing. So he asked a simple, quiet, invisibly desperate question.

"Did your pain eventually go away?"

They still weren't looking at each other. They were sharing some of the deepest, most painful parts of themselves with one another. The words were vulnerable enough, to the point eye contact would've been too much. But the words were the most important part.

Sonic barely hesitated when he replied, "No." He wasn't going to pretend or lie. There was no reason to, no point, and all the walls he'd previously had up were torn down by the day's events. But he did have something to share. It had been likely around 12-13 years since Longclaw died, and even though Sonic had been so young when it happened, he had taken something away from it all. To the present day, he had continued to honor her memory by trying to make her proud in how he lived.

He expressed that in the beginning of the second movie. He timidly asked Tom if she'd be proud early in this same movie. It had never stopped being important to him.

Because he'd loved her. And that was the lesson he shared with Shadow, pulled straight from his own painful experiences. It wasn't even a "live the way she would've wanted" type of encouragement. It was "you loved her and she loved you. So focus on that. Hold onto that memory." He didn't give false reassurances by saying the pain would eventually fade, because he knew firsthand that it wouldn't. He simply gave him a different focus.

And Shadow listened. He took it silently, and just as he was processing the new perspective with a kind of wonder in his eyes, the sun rose.

This kind of honest, deep-seated conversation could've only happened in this universe, simply because Game!Sonic doesn't have a confirmed backstory and isn't really allowed to open up like that. This is where the lack of mandates on the SCU makes for beautiful opportunities like this.

This wasn't an exchange between rivals. This was a heart-to-heart between two young boys with similar trauma. Something that connected them and became the foundation for their friendship.

The idea of rivalry is barely addressed in this movie, and I love it. Whatever banter they share as they fight alongside each other later is all friendly and lighthearted, paired with smiles and excitement.

Shadow confessed that he'd felt like he had no choice in the things he'd done, but he phrased it in a way that made it clear that he knew now he'd been wrong.

Even so, Sonic— in classic fashion— extended an open hand to him and told him the simple, profound truth: "You always have a choice."

Better yet, even though they still had a mess to clean, neither of them would be facing it alone. And with their friendship finally established, they were able to move forward.

Again. This scene was perfect. The honesty, raw emotion, open communication, and shared past between these two, as opposed to their strained dynamic in other universes, will always stand out to me, and among many reasons will always be a reason I love these movies so deeply.

Ok even if ex-post, that doesn't change my argument that we're not up to the current time in the lore, however. That is, the Ruination. And even if they change the year of the First Spirit Blossom event, that doesn't necessarily mean there cannot be a later Spirit Blossom event coinciding with Yasuo's, Riven's, Ahri's, Ruined King's lore. It's such a small detail overall. Like in the grand scope of things it's peanuts compared to say Camille as you say.

Yeah Camille is likely getting rewritten so that her lore happens later in the timeline. Which circles back to my original point that the "current" part of the lore focus isn't in the furthest part of the time. Meaning stuff like Ruination, Camille, Second Invasion, etc. have yet to occur within the current lens focus on the lore. Again, this is not necessarily a bad thing except for trying to make sense of stuff like "Awaken" with Jhin. We already see a woman like Camille in s2 so her character at least, exists within the universe.

I admit I was hasty with saying Singed had no lore retcons. I was under the understanding that the theory of Orianna being his daughter predated Arcane, and for that to occur there must've been something present to hint at that. "Even Swain knew of him" - Swain was the leader of the First Invasion up to Irelia's de-arming him though. He would have a better know-all of the connections amongst the army, double when he's known for being an informat/foreshadowing his connection to Raum. That being said, again this is a small detail. Ambessa might not have known the supplier, and given her appearance at P/Z as opposed to in Ionia, might not have been involved in the campaign with Ionia beyond her tipping Darkwill over a decade ago. Given her entanglement with the Black Rose and how she was involved with Ixtal, it simply might not even be something she's personally involved with. Singed's previous dealings aren't hers. Again null hypothesis goes her. Just because it didn't happen on screen didn't mean it didn't happen before. Same as it would be saying that it did happen when we don't know if it did. For all we know, it could be revealed that Silco made the deal with Emystan instead. (I do think the shimmer was being Shipped to Ionia for the war because what else would it be used for? Other than shimmer addicts in Bilgewater maybe).

Yes they can retcon Irelia's backstory cause of "no children killing" rule. But also, they could've done the same with Powder/Jinx (as in, not have her kill her family via explosion, or even have Claggor or Mylo's deaths be on screen). Ekko still led the firelights as a teenager even if that was not the focus in Arcane. Viktor was easier to change completely in part cause his lore was so inconsistent in how he was portrayed and comparatively less of a popular champion/key element of P/Z than say Ekko. It would not be as easy to change Irelia, whose lore is key to Ionia.

They are likely are going to change things no doubt about that which I do agree, (I suspect they might go the route of making her and Caitlyn related in some capacity for ex. if only in their attempt to make a cinematic universe out of the lore). But in the end I do think her character is gonna stay the same. Someone who was too young forced into a roll she did not want. It might not get like an elongated season length focus - I'd guess we'd get an act where she's a kid after her family is killed where trying in her own way to fight back with her newly discovered weapons before she gets captured at the Placidium, she escapes and cuts Swain's arm off and leads the grand stand. Jump cut to 5 years later and the tail end of the war where she looks older in that ambiguous stage between teen and adult which can fudge the censors (which were going to censor her either way cause her fighting style can be extremely graphic) and show the end of the war and such. Heck, they can even have a teenage her fight Riven as SOL implied inbetween and that wouldn't lead to death either way. There are ways to imply war with storytelling without explicitly having a child kill another person on screen. One can likely suspect teenage Jinx killed ppl before she did that teenager in s1ep4, but they never showed it. Vi also killed people in Stillwater per the Council files, and she was a teen. As I said, I do think there are gonna be some changes, but I do not think it's gonna be as drastic as one thinks.

With Leblanc, I assumed she wasn't gonna lead a full scale invasion either way. Something more covert. But again I could be wrong. And either way prepping for that takes years. And no doubt a show with Noxus is gonna have Leblanc plant those thoughts in Swain over time to "convince" him it's a good idea. I could be wrong, but I doubt it would be as fast as "new year!! New invasion." Again, we're arguing about the null here.

As for new Rell - she's going to get experimented on. She's going to develop those traumas likely. Again, the timeline shifted. Leblanc and the Black Rose are still getting away with that experimentation and Noxus is abetting that. Ambessa did fail Rell, never came back to save her even with her promises before and we know that didn't happen because in s2 Ambessa is around with no Rell in sight. That's a perfectly reasonable way to have Rell generate animosity towards Noxus in general cause even after trying her best within the system (as in, working with Ambessa) she's still being failed. The depth of the lore is changed (more details have been added) but the story still is there. Ambessa still turned her soldiers into shimmer beasts in s2 years later, so such atrocities are still being allowed/encouraged in Noxus of today. We will see how they handle Swain's new Noxus (again, the Null hypothesis is at play here), but I think it's too soom to doomsail yet.

I think you're being too narrow minded about this. In assuming that cause they change some things they're tossing everything out. This Spirit Blossom being the first one in Ionia since the Invasion occurred isn't as important to say Yasuo or Riven for their lore to occur as what happened during the specific spirit blossom event. It's literally too early to say atm anyways. Regardless, the original post was saying that the timeline within Arcane is aligned with the first Invasion and made some correlations based on what we do have for lore purposes. Which are still in play until outright contradicted, which with Irelia hasn't happened yet. I'll end the discussion here as I won't argue it anymore not when we're gonna be going around in circles like this.

We have Confirmation of the timeline re: the Invasion of Ionia as how it pertains to Arcane

So context for my Arcane followers the Invasion of Ionia lasts about a decade. But the Invasion really gets to a Head in the last five years. The tides turn three years prior to the end - when Irelia, 14 years old, leads the Great Stand of the Placidium and unites the Ionian Resistance which in turn makes a concerted effort to ward off Noxus. This happens two years after, at the start of the 5 years I mentioned, she loses her family as Noxus begins really to destroy. Anyways why am I mentioning this?

The implication by this comic is that Xin Zhao arrives at Ionia with the flower he has because it appears as though the Arcane has woken up everywhere. Which likely coincides with what Leblanc tells Mel in s2 that the "Arcane is waking up." So!! We can start aligning what Kennen says her with what happened in the Invasion.

Presumably, if the Spirit Blossoms returned in s2 act 3 or so, or even the end of s2 (since it's all happening in short time anyways), then the Invasion of Ionia happened throughout the latter years of the s1 timeskip and all of post timeskip Arcane s1, and s2 act 1 and maybe some of act 2. Which would make Irelia's age currently about 17-18 at the time in which "Pilgramage" is happening. And she's a teen throughout Arcane. This technically isn't a retcon at all, as she was always around Jinx's age anyways. In other words - Riot really hasn't retconned anything with regards to the timeline (Rell aside).

forever thinking abt my bela lore. if the BMOL existed back in the early seasons she SO would've had ties to them. she was taken in by them after her parents died. she grows up with toni. they are frenemies. they were roommates. they had a brief intense high school gal pals situationship. it ended bad. bela decided to gtfo and ran away at 18. but not before stealing away a TON of supernatural artifacts to then resell to wealthy collectors. she crossed the pond and set herself up in the US, adopting various aliases and disguises to evade the BMOL. she works with bobby, gets him that amulet in flagstaff, and through him makes connections with hunters, bc the BMOL hate hunters. when she dies we don't see her for a handful of seasons but then she comes back as a demon, possibly with demon girlfriend meg. she and meg would rile dean and cas up bc they clock those messy pining queers from a mile away, and would constantly be flirting with one of them to make the other jealous, but there's nothing behind it. it's all games. anyways, demon ally bela working with TFW. she hates the BMOL with a passion and makes it her mission to make their lives hell (heh). and then eventually, big showdown with toni. this is when we actually learn all of their messy history. i think bela should get to kill some BMOL, as a treat. also i think bela + crowley interactions would be amazing. and BELA + ROWENA HELLO. bela should get to bang crowley's mom. and then mary too. she finds out abt mary and ketch and is like, oh sweetie no. late seasons bela would've fucked shit up. hotgirl demon bela lets go! god. demon bela save me save me demon bela

To give you context, the interactive VIP novel is released for the anniversary of the franchise and it is a canon novel since it happens long before the glamrocks were corrupted and it is the novel where as a glamrock chica fan I wanted to jump off a fifth floor since chica is given a little bit of prominence where the protagonist's little brother is a big fan of chica and I said at last chica will have a role in the boy by the way is called ikki because then I remembered that this is fnaf and that she will never have that honor that is why it was all chica she interacted very little with her fan besides that on top of that the mazercise did not even exist at that time and was never hers because originally that place belonged to monty (secondary character having the attraction of chica and mimi golf) and my heart ended up exploding to see that chica is genuinely the filler of the band overshadowed by roxy and freddy who in that novel does have a role in it again overshadowed by a murdered rabbit with too many fanboys and overshadowed by an alligator who hasn't earned things and everything is handed to him on a silver platter.

ok so um I got my number theory paper today, and the TA had cut marks for me because i left the answer at 66^2 and not 4356 (fermat's little theorem) 😔 I even wrote the full proof

my friend told me I should mail the TA about this, I got 14/20 and should be getting 17or18/20 😔

scores aside, number theory is so much fun, so much fun. the only good thing here is that I know the concepts well, and I fully knew the paper (still fucked it up, because I'm so frickin slow while writing and time). and it hurts worse because there's not enough proof that validates my knowledge. which in turn makes me question if i actually do have any.

I am, in general, a person who does well in concepts but screws up the exams (70% of the time) and I'm trying, I'm trying to get myself out of this "exam paniK" that I often spiral into, just minutes before the exam. I hope I change and grow; I hope, I hope.

Well I finally sat down and worked out the schedule for the whole tournament (probably should've done that at the start but oh well). The pictures are under the cut for those interested, you'll see that I continue with the usual "Mon-Thurs with a 3 day break at the end of the week" routine for Round 2, and then Rounds 3 and 4 are going to be one poll everyday with (almost) no breaks, and then there's going to be some break time before the semifinals, and then the finals will be on November 4th. Sorry if it's all kinda confusing, scheduling a tournament turned out to be a lot more complicated than I thought it'd be lmao
