First off, stained glass window art?? Yes please?? I love how the entire fandom has just accepted that kind of style for the winners and it's FABULOUS. I absolutely adore your art style and Joel looks SO COOL in it!!! The sword and the ender pearl is perfect (the sword because he's a fighter, the pearl because that's how he died!!)
The hands around him!!! I LOVE how distinct every single one of them are, you can immediately tell who they belonged to. (Okay, the black long-sleeve thumbs-up is giving me trouble. Gem?? But the others going clockwise I BELIEVE are Pearl (the crown ring!!), Ren, Bdubs, Cleo, Tango, Grian, and Etho.)
The backgrounds are LOVELY and immediately distinct: Gem's barn, Scott's cake, Scar's roller coaster, the Tuff Guy's bases, the Spanner's bridges, and the bamboo for the Bamboozlers!!
THE FIVE PREVIOUS WINNERS!!! Quite frankly I consider it silly that we've been canoodling around with celestial objects for so long and I LOVE the symbols you chose for everyone- the red eye for Grian, the stars for beloved Scott, the crescent moon for Pearl, the sunflower for Scar and Martyn's shirt design!!
I'm deeply fascinated by the flowers- the cherry blossom is most likely a tie to his s10 base, but cherry blossoms also symbolize the balance between life and death, beauty and violence. Very fitting for our family-oriented yet ever bloodthirsty Joel!! The blue ones are most likely forget-me-nots, which also fits very well with Joel's ideals of making alliances and having "friends, not family".
"It's Your Turn"... man, I was rooting so hard for Joel this season and I'm SO HAPPY he won. Man deserves a victory.

you're absolutely right about all the hands, well done figuring out gem! it was based on her red life skin, but i couldn't think of anything to make it more clear who it was.
(at least, not until after i'd already finished and posted the piece)
flower language is rad and i did wonder about the meaning of the ones in here, but didn't actually think to look anything up. i like that the blue ones are forget-me-nots! i added them to the winners' circle as a nod to cleo's avatar!
because i literally forgot there were 6 previous winners until i'd already committed to the composition.
the series i forgot about was actually limited life. idk why. i'm new actually haven't seen any series before this one. (i also had to check with a friend of mine who's been watching the series a lot longer, to see if the symbols i'd picked would work for the other victors)
anyway since Real Life was april fools and not really played the same way as the others, i figured it made sense to add martin to the symmetrical circle of 5, and put something around the circle to represent cleo. hence the blue and yellow flowers!
and yep the sakura is hugely inspired by his hermitcraft base, plus the trees at the site of the final fight. learning it has meanings that work so well for his performance just puts such a smile on my face!
(since drawing this, i've seen other people using a comet, which is also so freaking good)
anyway thank you again for this ask, and for giving me an excuse to go off about how i put Very Much Thoughts into art sometimes
i haven't really interacted with many folks in the fandom itself! i'm shy, and i'm generally pretty happy to sit quietly in my corner and sometimes throw a piece of art to the winds to go wherever it might. but a result is that i don't always know how my art is received, if it lands, or it if it feels off to folks who've been around longer.

im really not a fan of Rick's recent trend of recycling bits of his writing that got a good reaction the first time and acting as if that's a valid substitute for. actually bothering to write something original a second time around. It's clearly just there as a callback and nothing more.
It's "Nico's rage exploded" and "Percy's rage exploded" with the exact same paragraph formatting. It's CoTG having titles like "My Singing Makes Things Worse, and Everyone Is Totally Shocked" (reference to TLO, when Percy says he thinks his singing would cause an avalanche) or "Pretty Much the Best Good-Night Kiss Ever" (reference to TLO "Pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time") or any other number of near word-for-word references to the first series. It's Nico calling Percy "seaweed brain" in Un Natale Mezzosangue (when Percy says in TTC that anybody but Annabeth calling him that is a major offense). It's Nico and Will falling into Tartarus in TSATS word-for-word referencing Percy and Annabeth in House of Hades, despite it not making any sense for their characters (and otherwise being written as Percabeth 2™). It's the show making huge changes but keeping random "fan-favorite references" (mostly overusing "seaweed brain" and "wise girl" and emphasizing percabeth) only because they're popular in-jokes and considering that a faithful enough adaptation to market it heavily as such. It's lazy writing.
And it's a disservice to the series and to the audience, because it clearly shows Rick doesn't have original ideas anymore (though given all his writing is heavily derivative to begin with, it begs the question how much was original in the first place and how much he has difficulty when he doesn't have a structured mythological plot to work from) and that there is an expectation that the audience will just sit down and accept that behavior hook-line-and-sinker. Everything recently is clearly such lip-service to the audience, either in retcons that are overt speaking-to-camera acknowledgements of things he's been criticized on or wink-wink-nudge-nudges of community in-jokes that have no business in the actual text (see: over-use of ship names in canon). Especially since Rick tends to be about 5 years behind on the fandom uptake. It's just so disappointing to see.

not to rant on main but like does anyone else know people who go on and on about their own complexity and intelligence (particularly at the expense of others) but actually just fail to be interesting at all. im talking the girl who calls herself a neurodivergent baddie who only likes weird people but then gets shady when youre weird in the wrong way. or who says they hate small talk and wanna talk about theology and literature and philosophy but get weirded out when people actually start having discussions. like the person who talks themself up as kind and introspective but just ends up being a bully. this very very specific type of person and ive met multiple people like this and i cant help but get tired of it. the whole higher plane superiority act.

ahhhh i really hope im able to get new babies next week </3
#again i hope there are some but i hope there arent many available#i have 7 rn but bc theyre old and some seem like theyre about to pass im willing to get a bit more than max capacity#because realistically they are not going to live much longer and i could even lose another within the weeks it takes me to quarantine the#new ones#like sushi specifically will need to be put down within the next month bc of the tumor growing behind her eye#(their tank can fit 12 mice. i personally prefer to keep my colony at max capacity because it's the most natural#social situation they would be in; having been bred from house mice who live in large numbers in very small spaces)#the cage is big enough for 12 mice to have 150 squared cm each which is the standard in europe#some estimates show i could have 16 mice but i think thats a little overboard in terms of feeding and enrichment and vet bills#but yeah if i get 7 next week and im about to lose sushi then that will put me at 13. and again a few more are on their last legs#it's hard to say goodbye to my old girlies it really is but im excited to bond with new babies and to see the tank lively again#saying goodbye allows me to take in new babies to love and provide a happy life for.#that and i love to watch the new girls form their personalities#split pea was named split pea bc she was a major jumper as a baby and would always jump out of the cage and try to 'split' outta there#but now??? shes one of my most lovey dovey mice#she'll reach up and grab my hand and pull it close to her for pets#shes one of my fatter less active girls too so she aint jumping nowhere anymore#it's just so interesting watching how they grow and change over the months and years theyre alive.#they have such short lives but they live so fully.

#almost like the idea of a representative demcracy is both historically undemocratic and inherently is incapable of being so#by historically i mean that representative democracies have always meant the creation of a category of ‘citizen’ that is above ‘non-citizen#even the civilization where the term democracy comes from was patriarchal and had fucking slavery#not chattel slavery but (hot take) non chattel slavery is still bad.#also fundamentally one person can literally not represent the wishes of a large collection of people who have only geography in common.#theyre going to want different things!!!#now the idea of if democracy is inherently a virtue is like. another topic. but i will say that like seeing the history of like the#popular sovreignty movement wrt to slavery really made me question it. just because a lot of people want something to happen doesnt#actually mean it should happen. white people voted to legalize slavery#kind of where the old ‘minority’ terminology comes in. just by numbers alone in the states that had these votes it wasnt like in the south#where in the south because of plantations the actual population majority in some places was black.#but in those midwestern new states even if everyone person there could have voted. white people would still be the vasy majority.#honestly to a degree pointing out that none of the societies that have claimed to be democracies have truly been democratic is…#i guess the primary value in it is to challenge people who take state mythologies at face level#a very large population that i often forget exists.#the ‘they cant do that its illegal’ types.#anyways. if we consider that every society in documented history has had some type of violence and oppression#and if we believe that people are NOT inherently selfish/violent#it follows that what we need to do is something different than what we have been doing.#not just different from what we are doing right now. but different from what we have been doing for the past centuries#but also i can imagine that societies and ways of living that aren’t legible to the status quo or just went undocumented for other reasons#may have been more egalitarian. and we dont know due to erasure (either intentional or non-intentional)#both erasure and a fundamental inability of historians to comprehend it. similar to how cishet historians who cant fathom the idea of#transness or lesbianism talk about things.

Actually it was surreal as hell to look at my transcript today. I've got all but 3 classes done or in WIP. I'd have to Severely fuck up to fail any of my classes this semester, by this point. Which I don't think will happen. Honestly I might even get straight A's for the first time in college. Which would be cool!!!
So just three classes left. Just three. It's so wild. I'm pretty excited.
#speculation nation#for the first time i actually glanced at the 'apply for graduation' option#to graduate at the end of spring id have to apply by sometime in february.#idk i'll bring it up with the advisor tomorrow. make sure im actually good to graduate with these 3 classes.#part of the problem is the fact that i didnt see the classes i have to take 2 of on the offered list#which makes me nervous about whether theyre even available next semester. and what id have to do to take them.#alternative options? or *waiting*? thatd be even worse. so im not sure yet.#the other thing is that my major started requiring students to take an internship in order to graduate#but since ive taken a long ass time my index year aka when k started doesnt have that as a requirement.#at least that's what my last advisor said :p so im nervous about if this new one says differently.#an internship would certainly be useful for getting work experience and resume padding#but i never wanted to before bcus i needed to work my job. that paid me Money. unlike the probable internship.#and also i dont have my license and i DEFINITELY dont want to TRAVEL. what would i do with my cats#?????#so i havent done an internship. and i dont intend to. but if he says it's actually required then id have to work to get one over summer#etc etc. then graduation would be delayed.#i really really hope it doesnt turn out like that. i really Really want to just be done already. by the end of spring.#spring 25 give it up for graduating spring 25#i was originally class of 19 lol but i like 25 better. in terms of numbers.#class of 15 for high school and 25 for college... yes#and YEAH it's taken me 10 years😭😭😭😭 thats why i dont want it to take any longer 😭😭😭😭 im so close i just wanna be DONE WITH IT!!!!!!#so fucking close i can taste it. im halfway done with my current semester too. gonna be honest, while she is a wonderfully played character, i do not like karna as a person at all lol. usually i love morally grey characters but i think im too attached to amangeaux to appreciate karna's character. like the scene where amangeaux had to beg karna on her knees just to be able to flee for her life with her child made my skin crawl and was probably the final nail in the coffin for me
and that on top of karna without remorse offering up amangeaux's child's life, which she didn't even have conformation was the heir to vegetania, and then her speech of getting 'drops of recognition' from amangeaux for 'her own protection and happiness' i had no sympathy for her after everything she did. it felt like she was getting mad at a woman she was trying to take advantage of who decided to prioritize herself and her year old child, who karna just agreed to kill
like yes, theres the political standing difference between them, but by that time amangeaux had no political safety and was discarded by her allies, and only a few hours ago in the game's universe was it proven by their own actions how even with supposed political advantage means nothing anything anyway and just
her careless 'im damned to rot so i have no care what suffering i put people through to get to my goal' just rubs me the wrong way along with everything else
this is no hate towards aabria, she's playing the character wonderfully and every move she makes makes sense for the character she has made, it's just karna makes me so inherently uncomfortable

Guessing game: which is more likely, an ex I havent spoken to in three years listing me as a reference for a government job (we did work in a lab together for 6 months) or someone trying to scam me somehow by pretending to be calling references ??

#i keep seeing stuff i disagree with and wanting to respond but i dont want to argue with people online#and also i feel like i have to word things really carefully#because of Reading Comprehension or lack thereof#and i dont have the energy to write a fucking essay about whether or not the people who want to make high quality videos should move to a#not saying its your fault either. shit is fucked. but#service where they have a regular monthly income#or make the lower quality stuff that was good and that fans liked but that the creators themselves werent happy with#their current budget didnt allow them to make the quality of stuff they wanted to while paying all of their employees well#so theyre doing something that they thought would help solve that#idk people keep saying theyre fans because of the creators rather than the quality of the art#but the creators want to make higher quality stuff#and instead of encouraging the creators to make what they want to make people are tearing into them#like you dont have to subscribe to the channel. no one is making you do that#it is not shane or ryan or stevens fault that you cant afford a subscription fee#they dont control the economy or grocery inflation etc#theyre paying their employees well and thats all the control they have over anyones income#theyre doing what little they can#i just think if youre gonna complain about the excessive number of streaming services and the high costs for them#the independent companies trying to make good content in line with good values while paying everyone involved what theyre worth#are maybe not the ones you should be blaming for the situation#when there are behemoths like netflix who dont give a shit about their content and prioritize profit over everything else

Mid patch but on the bright side new salmon run specials and on the brighter side kraken specifically I think we've found our new best survivability tool
#rat rambles#splat posting#the new splashdown being in there is also pretty cool and Im especially happy abt it since I actually rly liked splashdown in splat 2 sr#so hopefully thisll be a more reliable version of that + some extra king salmonid dps with the 3 fists instead of one#now ofc this all relies heavily on what the actual damage numbers look like for both specials#but at the very least splashdown should be a decent basket clearer and kraken a decent oh god Im the last one alive button#the main problem with kraken as a survival tool is lack of range with means lack of revival power#but like. its an invinsibility special. so it can only be so bad in a mode where staying alive is part of the win condition#now ideally the charge dash pierces since I can only imagine theyre viewing this as a boss killing special and not a crowd clearer#the one big thing that makes me think itll be a hated rn special at first is that ppl will be to confident with it as a stay alive tool#cause invinsibility is cool and all but the end lag means that those couple seconds will do jack shit if you can't revive someone first#also we have to worry abt nockback too and how certain maps just soooo aren't built for it#like some lowtides itll be borderline unusable due to its nockback I think#unless they reduce the nockback done by salmonids or give it like good contact damage or smth#this is not me saying it'll be bad but I could see this being a special that ppl struggle with figuring out how to use in sr at first#like I think this is a boss killer special that you can also pop in an emergency to survive for long enough to revive someone#unlike most survivability specials in sr kraken'll be a lot more selfish in nature which could be a problem if ppl play too much into that#as in only using it as an escape tool instead of a try to use your guarantee alive time to fix some shit tool#so basically; Im excited for these but Im hard expecting ppl to complain abt it at first once the initial cool factor wears off#also for ppl to act like this makes slider obsolete in sr as it rly doesnt#reef slider isnt a great special in sr dont get me wrong but its not nearly as bad as ppl act like it is#like look me in the eyes and tell me its the worst sr special youd be lying and we both know it#like look at me. we all know its crab. we all know no one wants to be the guy with crab.#like part of it is just a general skill issue in that its hard to use#but like also crab is just WAY to vulnerable by sr standards and way too immobile and just... doesn't have the power to do a whole lot#like most things crab does inkjet does better and everything inkjet does as far as enemy clearing can be done by booya better#inkjet does have value as a survivability and revival tool tho even if theres better for the revival front#crab's only value is as a good king salmonid special but thats rly abt it#like in every situation you could pull out a crab a different special would do the job better#like reed slider is not your best pick either but at least its not as much of a death sentence as crab most the time
