Ghost Swap announcements! imaaayhavewrittenthedatewrong + how to post + retroactive fills

Almost there, almost there! June 12th, our posting day, is almost upon us. Which brings me to my first point... out of all the possible growing pains of Gswap's new format, this one I was not expecting... the thing is... the anniversary... the anniversary for Ghost Trick, the date chosen especially to release Ghost Trick, Ghost Trick's anniversary. That anniversary? Is on the 19th. So that was a super fun typo to go unnoticed for two months! I am not going to change dates two days out, especially with no means to contact all participants, which means:

A FULL WEEK OF PARTYING.

Nothing like it, as someone would have it! The event will still open on the 12th, but all Ghost Swap works posted throughout the week, until June 19th, will be fully part of the initiative and will be included in the final masterlist. This might even come in handy for last-minute finishing touches, as well as for posting more than three things (as Tumblr tends to show three posts per person per day in a tag).

Now onto regular modly business:

We're opening the floodgates on June 12th and, as always, the official ruling on what constitutes "June 12th" is as lax as can be. Follow the time zone of your heart. Whenever it’s June 12th somewhere in the world.

summary: after getting teleported to an unknown village, sanji must find a place to stay - and unfortunately for him, the old castle he found is already taken

a/n: no use of y/n. re8 is my comfort game ever since i first played it. the characters are all interesting and i wish the game was longer with us getting to know more abt them. i thought why not write a story where reader is a dimitrescu. if you havent played re8, i highly recommend! even if its titled as a horror game, its not that creepy :)

He didn't know where he was. It all happened so fast. In one moment he was up against a weird devil fruit user, and in the other, he was laying in the cold, white snow. Sanji gets up into a sitting position, supporting himself up with his hands. He looks around, observing the terrain around him. It seemed like a village, surrounded by snow-covered mountains. The wooden houses gave him the feeling that this wasn't the most modern place he's ever been to, but it was beautiful. One thing bothered him though: there was nobody.

He found it weird that noone was here, he couldn't hear any noise from the houses either. No happy kids playing in the snow, no old people chatting away on the benches, nothing. Sanji gets up, curious where everyone went. Does anybody even live here anymore? Or is this just a long forgotten inhabited village, and that's why it all seems like he was thrown back in time?

Not knowing where to go, Sanji mindlessly roams the area in hopes of finding someone or something that could help him out. He trusted his crew and that they will get him back somehow, he wasn't worried about that. He knew that there was nothing he could do about the situation, given he didn't even know where he was. But he needed food and shelter until the others find a way to reunite, and in a village he is likely to find these.

Sanji knew that there was something wrong with the village. He would ocassionally see remains of blood splatters on the walls, or broken windows and doors. Maybe he was right, this is an abandoned village. But the blood seemed like it's been there for only a day, meaning that there might be survivors of whatever is going on here.

One thing catches his eye: a giant castle on the side of the village. He could see some faint light from the windows, even if the castle was far from him, meaning that somebody is likely living there. Should he go there armed? No, he got his legs and wits, and he couldn't find a weapon anyway. He stands in front of the grand, stone gate in front of him, the castle on the other side of it. Sanji takes a deep breath, and pushes it open.

He steps trough it, findig a snow-covered trail surrounded by leafless trees, a carriage a few metres away from him parked on the side.

"I've been waiting for you, Mister Vinsmoke." A man speaks, sitting in the carriage, dressed in Victorian-era clothing.

"How do you know my name?" Sanji stops in front of him, curious how a strange man he never met knows his name.

"Blackleg Sanji, the Wing of Strawhat Luffy. I tend to know lots of things, Mister Vinsmoke. The word from the village is proven to be the truth, then. Though I must say, that castle arouses suspicion."

"Yeah, and so do you."

Sanji didn't like how this seemingly merchant knew things about him and called him by his father's name. He preferred to go by Blackleg, the name coming from his real father's, Red Leg Zeff.

"And who do you might be?" He inquires.

"I am but a humble merchant." The man chuckles.

"Here?"

"Forgive my manners. Call me the Duke." He finally introduces himself. Sanji didn't fully trust this man.

"Earlier you said that the castle arouses suspicion. What did you mean by that?"

"That place is full of nothing but blood and death. Nobody ever comes back from there. It's under the management of Lady Dimitrescu." The Duke explains.

"Lady Dimitrescu?" Sanji murmurs to himself. A castle under a woman's rule? Maybe this place isn't so bad after all... "Thank you for your help."

Sanji walks away after this, heading towards the castle. Now he was even more curious about it. Does the castle look more modern on the inside? Who is Lady Dimitrescu? Could he live here until the crew defeats the devil fruit user and he can get back to them? He was hoping that this woman will be kind enough to give him some ingredients to cook and a room where he can sleep. The castle was big anyway, she probably wouldn't mind if he stayed there for a bit.

Here he was, at the castle's entrance. Sanji gupled as he opened the door, trying to be as quiet as possible. He closes them behind himself as quietly as he opened them, and makes its way further into the castle. He was amazed by the interior. The floor was clean, the shiny wooden planks and the sole of his dress shoes creating a clicking noise as he explores the hallways. The walls were a dark shade of green, with some brownish-crimson wood elements, it all looked straight out of a tale.

He stumbles upon the main hall. His eyes widen at the sight. The room is illuminated by the light of the candles placed on the huge chandelier, a large, intricated staircase leading to the second floor while the white tiles shine on the floor. Sanji is mesmerized, findig the whole setting elegant. He was suddenly snapped out of his trance by a voice behind him.

"Who are you?! And what are you doing here?!" Sanji turns around to find a fuming girl standing there, dressed in an all black dress, the hood of it on her head, her eye makeup matching the colour of her outfit.

Sanji froze. He didn't expect this.

"A-are you Lady Dimitrescu?" He shakily asks.

"No, but if she finds out you're here, you'll end up just like all the other men. Same if my sisters find you. They have a lot less self control than I do..." the girl approaches Sanji.

You stare at the man in front of you, his slightly dissheveled blonde hair covering one of his eyes, the black suit he was wearing perfectly fitting him.

"What do you mean by that, ma cherie?" He asks.

"Mother hates men. And just intruders in general." You tell him, remembering what happened to the last person who entered the castle. Your mom did seem to like the wine made from his blood.

"I-I mean no harm, I promise! I just need cooking materials, and I was wondering if I could sleep here? Please, I'll make food for you, just let me stay for a bit. Just until I can get back to my crew!" He begs, holding your hands together.

You wanted to decline, to send him away before your mother or one of your sisters find him, or before you end up killing him yourself. But he looked at you with such kind eyes, and it seemed like he wasn't scared of you at all. Did he not know anything? About who or what you were? That you could tear his throat out any second? He was holding your hands so gently, like you could break at any moment, staring at you with his cerulean eyes.

"I can't. You came to the worst place possible, run while you can." You break free from his touch, turn around and head back to the direction where you came from. It was for the best. If he stays, he'll just get tortured and killed.

"No, please, I-" he starts, but can't find the right words to finish. So, he just stood there, not moving a muscle, waiting for you to change your mind.

"Who is this manthing?" You hear an all too familiar voice behind you. You turn around, only to see the man with wide eyes, your mother looming over him. Of course she did, she was eight foot tall. This was the end for the man, you knew it. But he did nothing wrong, and he just felt different, you can't just hand him over to your mother.

"What have I told you about men?" Her voice was menacing, and if looks could kill, you would be dead right now.

"I know mother, and I apologise. I stumbled upon him by accident." You explain.

Sanji didn't flinch. He didn't move, he froze. He didn't turn around to see who or what was behind him, he could feel the presence and see the huge shadow created by the person. His mind was going a million ways, not even being able to focus on the conversation you were having with who he assumed was your mother. One thing he did notice was how your expression changed when you saw her, how you looked so... afraid. Did this woman behind him do something wrong to you? Your complete aura changed, it was noticable. He knew that there's no way he'll fight a woman, and he also knew that the crew won't be here to save him this time. This might be the end for him. He feels as the woman behind him breathes down his neck, then suddenly bites into it.

Sanji grunts, the teeth of the woman deep in his throat. He didn't know what was going on. Is this how he's going to die? No, because the woman pulled back, and he was still alive, standing, breathing, and he could still feel as his heart was beating in his chest. He could hear the two women talking, but his mind was too out of its place to understand what the conversation was about. And that was the last thing he knew before fainting.

He woke up, chained to the wall in some unkown room. The quiet cracklig of the fireplace gave him a slight comfort, but the pain wouldn't go away. He had to figure out an escape plan, quick. He tried to wiggle himself out the handcuffs, but to no avail.

Just then, a bunch of flies flooded the room, all in the same spot until the seemed to merge together, forming a human-like figure.

"Didn't know you could do that..." he quietly says.

"There are so many things you don't know about me, Vinsmoke Sanji." The girl from earlier says.

"How do you know my name? My manners seemed to dissapear when we first met, i apologise."

"The Duke. He sometimes pays us a visit. He was here this morning while you were here, passed out."

"Well, I didn't even ask you your name, ma cherie. I'm Sanji, I'll get you out of here in no time." Sanji smiles down at her.

"Hm, to me it looks like you're the one who needs to be saved." She looks up at Sanji, who was still chained to the wall. She was right.

"I guess you're not here to save me. Going to bite?" He asks.

"I could. I warned you about my mother and sisters, you didn't listen. Look where it got you."

"What will they do with me? A bunch of pretty ladies sucking all my blood out? It's a better way to go than some I can imagine."

"Don't worry, it's gonna be quicker than that. And a lot more painful. Mother said you'd make some pretty good wine."

"I can in fact make wines, if that's what you wish for."

"Not like that."

"Oh."

The awkward silence set in before being broken by the girl's sigh as she took steps towards Sanji.

"What are you doing, cherie?"

"You want to die here? You mentioned that you got a crew somewhere. Think about them at least." She says, her hands on Sanji's handcuff holding him to the wall. He feels as the first handcuff loosens, and he pulls out his hand from it, looking at the girl in disbelief.

Both handcuffs fell off Sanji's hand, freeing him. He was speechless. This girl that he met yesterday, the one whose mother possesed major hatred towards men and the person who tied him up like this, who could end his life right in this moment just saved his life.

"I don't want to leave you here. Please, come with me. I can see you're not happy here with her." He holds his hand out for the girl to grab, but she doesn't do it. Instead, she looks down, and Sanji knows he was right. She really didn't like it here.

"I... I can't." She holds back her tears, her nails digging into her palm. "A few seconds in the cold air, and I freeze to death. And I mean I turn into a literal ice sculpture and die. I'm not a human like you. I might even end up causing you harm. You felt what my mother did to you. She's a vampire, and so am I."

Sanji is quiet for a few seconds. He doesn't know how to reply. He didn't want to leave her here to suffer under her mother, especially knowing that he could've done something about it.

"That's not a problem. I'll keep you warm if that's what is holding you back. I trust you that you won't bite me. You could've done it the moment we met, but you didn't. I don't care if you are a vampire, we have stranger people on the crew than that. Maybe our talking reindeer could even help you so that you won't freeze to death when it's cold."

She was stunned. This man she met yesterday spoke so kindly to her like nobody ever did before. Not her mother, not her sisters, nobody. She wanted to go, to join the crew, to be free, to know Sanji better, maybe the other crew members too. Talking reindeer? She was interested. She only knew the definition of "friends" from books she was forbidden to read, but now she could have the chance to experience what it's like.

"I... I'm just an experiment, I..." she tries to protest, holding back tears. She wanted to leave, really, but her mother wouldn't approve this. She never got to experience life outside the castle, or see what was outside the walls.

"Looks like we have something in common, then." Sanji warmly smiles. He knew what it felt like. "But now I have a loving crew, and most of the times I forget this part of my past. You can do it, too." He gives reassuring smile. He can't leave her here.

He was right. She lived here so long, the village reminding her every day of the reason of her existence, that she's just the product of some crazy scientist woman's experiments. But now she can leave this behind. Just like Sanji did.

She looks down at Sanji's hand, still held out for her. This time, she places hers into the blonde's, ready to leave.

Do you know of any fics about Ray looking like Isabella or having her her eyes?

The one that most readily comes to mind with Isabella and Ray's relationship as the main focus is They Don't Know You're Hers (2019) by NigiyakanaAki (there's also a sequel one-shot fic from Emma's perspective on Ray's looks, although she's not directly making the connection between them so much as noting they have a similar aura about them and how Ray's pretty like she was).

Although I'd also recommend always a riddle inside my head (aesop's kin) (2019) by evanescent.

It doesn't place as much focus on the physical similarities between them, but rather on their personalities and choices.

With this passage directly confronting what underlies any potential angst he might have associated with his features.

“It could, but you’re scared,” Isabella says then. “Of how my mind worked. Of how your own brain is wired. Is being similar to me really that terrible?” - “You made your choices…are you happy with them?”

To plagiarize myself from this post:

I don’t know if I would phrase it as him hating himself more because of [their physical similarities]? Because no one can control their genetics, and he never delves into angst over his black hair and other physical traits he inherited from her. He instead focuses on the actions of himself and others:

His phrasing of the “true nature” of demons in chapter 123 makes me think back to how he justified his self-immolation in chapter 32:

He fully convinced himself that the only way he could atone for what he did was by committing suicide as the linchpin of his plan. He views what he and Isabella did—using the children of plant no.3 for their respective machinations—as reprehensible. So I feel he would still beat himself up over this inherited nature/loathsome predisposition and how their brains must be wired similarly more than actually hating any physical traits he might have gotten from her, but they would be triggering for him any time he’s having a negative thought spiral (you could easily write all of this off as pedantic semantics though lol).

While I'm 100% on board for Ray having purple eyes, I'm not keen on them being the focus of his inner turmoil and him repeatedly drawing attention to them (or worse, other people doing this with how awkward it feels on multiple fronts) as I am for them acting as bonus visuals and triggers to kick off a deeply embedded fear of an inescapable, inherit nature that dooms him. He made the choice to use people, proved the lengths he was willing to go to, just like she did (not getting into the circumstances behind it because for all the nuance he'll afford other things, when pushed this is something he's very stark about and won't budge on.) It's not all-consuming because that places him at odds with his vow to live and take care of his family, but something he falls into now and again, believing he'll never be able to truly atone for what he did and for that he doesn't deserve happiness.

Facsimile (2020) by banana_slug_army is another fic that follows this line of thought.

Enjoyed all four of these, but it's far from an exhaustive list, so opening it up to followers and others if they have any other recs on the subject.

I'm a little pissed off because I saved up for quite a while to buy a nice 3 in 1 packer (pack, play, stp), and it's... disappointing.

The older model had really good reviews, but since they released the new model, they stopped selling the old one. I assumed that the new model would at least not have lost any function from the previous model, but it has. The previous model was a packer and stp at all times and had an insert for 'play' mode, but you could still use it as an stp with that insert in, and you could pack with it as long as you were okay with it looking a bit hard. The insert was easy to put in without having to remove the whole packer. You could just slide it in real quick and move on. It also had a feature that did require a bit of setup but would allow you to simulate ejaculation.

The new model doesn't have the ejaculation feature at all. And the thing itself is basically a penis shaped bag, which does look very realistic and feel decently realistic, but the pack, play, and stp modes are all achieved by using different 'cores' that you put in the outer skin. So in order to switch between different functions, you have to fully remove the packer from the harness, take out the core that's in it, and put in the one you want to use before returning it to the harness.

So if you want to use it for pack and play, you either have to pack hard or accept that you're going to need 5-10 minutes to get it switched over. And if I'm going to do all that anyway, I might as well have saved myself some money and just bought a normal strap-on.

Worse is if you want to use it as a packer and stp. Packing with the stp core looks and feels unrealistic. Even through pants, it doesn't have the right shape. But what's the point of having a super realistic penis stp if, in order to use it, you have to fully remove your pants, take the harness and packer off, take the packing core out, put in the stp funnel, then put the harness back on. What, am I supposed to go into a bathroom stall, do all of that, then go back to the urinal, take a piss, then go back into the stall to reverse that whole process? And that's not even mentioning that the opening of the stp funnel is really small and difficult to use.

And, perhaps most importantly, for me, the packer core is shorter than the "skin" it goes in. So you can either not put it in all the way and have a realistic base to shaft transition but a flat and deflated tip. Or you can put the core in all the way and have a good-looking and feeling shaft and head, but the base is bent at an impossible angle that clearly shows that it's fake.

I've spent the last month going through the website trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong, trying to figure out how to rig this thing to work better, and it just doesn't. I'm pissed that I spent over 300 dollars on this.l, especially since the older model was so highly recommended. It seems so bizarre to me that they would have such a well-regarded product and then just tank it.

The Apprentice (2024) review

There’s just something weird in watching a film about Trump. Like for real.

Plot: A young Donald Trump, eager to make his name as the hungry second son of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of cutthroat lawyer Roy Cohn. Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protege: someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win.

One must wonder how excited Donald Trump was when he heard Sebastian Stan was cast to play him in a movie. One must then wonder how Trump felt after seeing the final product. Let’s just say I get why the President of the United States (yes, it’s happened again!) referred to this movie as a “politically disgusting hatchet job” made by “human scum”. There is definitely an anti-Trump sentiment to the whole thing, and especially a certain shocking uncomfortable scene that is evidently inspired by those sexual misconduct allegations really hitting the hammer over the nail, but regardless of the intentions behind this movie and it’s tactical release before the US election, does this film provide any form of value or enlightenment on its subject matter?

The issue with The Apprentice is that I’m not too certain who this movie is made for. If you are a fan of Trump then this is definitely not for you, as it paints him in a very bad light. However on the other hand if you dislike the guy, I probably would not recommend watching this film either. In the sense that if this movie was created for Trump haters, I was sort of expecting more? Instead what we get really is at least in the first half of the film a romantic comedy set-up between Trump and his business teacher Roy Cohn, where there is most certainly am unspoken level of chemistry between the two. In fact this first half of the film really does play up to the stereotypes of that genre, with the way the two look at each other and them building this bond. Then the second half turns more into this Frankenstein’s monster narrative, as Trump turns more into his modern self with all the plastic surgery and fat reduction medical procedure, whilst Cohn deteriorates into a weak broken sweaty mess after contracting AIDS. By the way screw this movie for managing to make me momentarily feel sorry for Roy Cohn, as the guy was obviously a horrible individual, yet at the end of this movie Jeremy Strong’s performance manages to attract this level of sympathy as you really end up feeling sorry for him. Getting back to the point at hand though, I’m stuck wondering what is the point of this movie? Trump’s backstory is not all that fascinating really - it’s a typical business man turning rich in America narrative that has been played many times before. Except that here what we have is an unfinished story, as there are many set-ups that are started within the movie from issues with his marriage, to starting to write his book, to the constant foreshadowing of his future presidency, but everything is left open. So again, who is this movie for? Trump’s fans would find this thing too polarising, whilst those that detest him would probably have seen much worse of him in other documentaries or are simply sick of seeing the guy in the first place and would not want to watch a feature length story of how he came to be.

Sebastian Stan was not the first individual I would have thought of when it came to casting Donald Trump, and yet I will give him props, he does a pretty decent job. He gets the mannerisms down, the inflection of the voice and then pairs it down. This doesn’t feel like a parody performance, but rather downplaying the character so as to make it feel more realistic, as well as reiterating that he’s playing a younger version of Trump that has not fully come into his own yet. Jeremy Strong though is the MVP and, dare I say, strong in the role of Roy Cohn. He plays a stuck up business lawyer arse really well, yet again what is so fascinating about his performance is that he manages to make the viewer feel a level of empathy for the awful man who was also a victim to prejudice of the time. Maria Bakalova as Trump’s ex-wife Ivana did a serviceable job, but nothing as memorable as her turn in Borat 2.

Entertainment value wise there are moments of sharp dialogue - Cohn telling Trump one of his key rules “Admit nothing, deny everything” felt particularly apt to how Trump ended up becoming in the end. Visually speaking it’s filmed in old-school 4:3 aspect ratio as if you’re watching this on a small TV, with VHS scratch marks bringing in the time period of the 80s which was a neat little trick. As stated the performances are good, and even though it has that indie feel to it with about 20 different small studios backing it as evident from the endless company logos showcased in the opening credits, the production level is actually pretty impressive. There’s just not enough meat on the bones so to speak, so even though I did enjoy watching it, The Apprentice is in no-way an eye opener of the controversial individual. Also how dare they not even mention Donald Trump’s amazing performance in Home Alone 2. Talk about a snub!

Pain blossomed on my cheek as the fog from the tranquilizer finally started to wear off. Not only had they managed to capture all four of us but they also decided to kick us while we were down. I tried to bring my hand up to press it to my throbbing cheek only to be met with resistance.

"Ahhh she's finally awake." The voice floated towards me and I finally opened my eyes.

The room I was in was made of bare stones with only one light hanging from the ceiling on a string that looked like it might snap any second. Other than the chair I was currently tied to there was no other furniture. Thanks to all the shadows in this cell, dungeon, or whatever it might be, I couldn't see the man who spoke.

"Where the hell am I," I tried to say but thanks to the effects of the tranquilizer still lingering in my system it came out more like "Wh thell mm ei."

"I wouldn't recommend trying to talk for a while longer." The voice's owner finally stepped out of the shadows on the far side of the room. "Those tranquilizers were all strong enough to take down that maledetto so the effects on someone fully human take longer to wear off." His cold voice matched his stark features. I swallowed my spit in an attempt to wet my dry throat but it only felt like I was inhaling a cotton ball.

"You are here because you need to understand just how dangerous that beast you intend to marry is," he said as he stalked closer. "So while I talk you're going to listen. Any attempt at resistance or argument will result in pain." He stopped a meter away from my chair. "Do we have an understanding little flower?"

I shook my head because like hell I was going to listen to this fool and his propaganda.

You see little flower, those creatures come from another far-off world full of hybrid creatures of all kinds. Fairies, angels, Nephilim, harpies, and many other creatures that never existed here."

This soulless man was born the same day Kari's ancestors landed here and I followed them. Once I felt this empty vessel I made it my own," he explained still speaking with two voices.

"That's not fucking possible. No one is immortal," I coughed.

"Allow me to demonstrate," he said. He stepped back a few steps and then spread his arms wide. Wings unfurled from his back as black as the shadows Cillian kept.

This time instead of hitting me he raised his arm and white light glowed out of his palm. The magic left his hand and hit me in the leg so hard and fast that I didn't feel it break, I only heard it.

A scream tore through the room a few seconds later as darkness encroached on my vision.

"Don't go passing out on me now," he snarled. One of his wings brushed over my leg and the pain vanished but I could still feel the broken bone.

"I didn't heal you I only erased the pain. It's a neat little trick for torturing someone don't you think?"

"I think you can go to Hell," I spat more blood on the floor.

"Been there, didn't like it, too cold." He grinned and now all his teeth were pointed like a shark's.

"So what is the point of all of this?" I asked.

His hand dropped to his side and pulled out a knife from I don't know where. He walked behind me and with one quick downward motion severed all the ties for my torso. Just as quickly he freed my arms and legs before tucking the knife away again.

All the questions that keep me up at a night…I started writing a lot about this but in the interest of getting it to you quickly—a summary. The TLDR:

We’ve taken some external funding but are aiming to be fully profitable and sustainable as soon as we can (realistically in the next 1–2 years). Since the whole thing with NaNoWriMo has gone down, I've noticed that one of their former sponsors, Ellipsus, has cut contact with NaNoWriMo because they do not support their stance on AI; I didn't know what Ellipsus was, but upon further research I've found that they are a writing platform that works a lot like Google Docs and Microsoft Word, only with a heavier leaning on the story-writing aspect and connecting with other writers - and they also completely denounce any use of AI, both in the writing process itself and in the use of their platform. I really appreciate that.

Since this is the case (and since I've noticed Google has begun implementing more AI into their software), I've decided to give Ellipsus a try to see if it's a good alternative to Google Docs (my main writing platform). It's completely free and so far, I've found it simple to use (although it is pretty minimal in its features), and I really like the look of it.

I'm going to extrapolate a little bit because there's a few different ways I could approach this: What do I think is going to be the next release, what do I think is going to be the next mainline numbered entry and what I personally want.

What I would want is a spiritual successor to Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D. As good as the series can be at survival horror, it's got a criminally underrated and super addicting arcade side that hasn't been explored as much as I'd like. My dream would be a fully-featured arcade game built in the Reach for the Moon Engine featuring all the stages and all the characters from prior Mercenaries modes, with maybe some new ones for good measure.

The gameplay would be an evolution of the mechanics from Resident Evil 4 (2023), complete with (and this is super important) the attache case inventory system. All the characters would have all their different costumes, loadouts would be fully customizable, there would be a variety of goals, objectives and scenarios and we'd finally see the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Mercenaries content that was left out of R3make rebuilt in the RE Engine.

Merc3D is seriously one of my favourite games (the render I use for Jill's icon is her key art from that game!), but it was frustratingly bare-bones and it's difficult to recommend because of what it inherits from Resident Evil 5, and also the fact it's locked on the 3DS. I want more of this and none of the Mercenaries modes in the other games I have fully fill that niche for me.

After that, I would love an updated and expanded re-release of Resident Evil Outbreak that fixes all of its myriad bugs, broken things and finishing its dummied-out incomplete content. I'd settle for a remake (and honestly a remake is more likely) but I'd infinitely prefer a re-release: That game is seriously the lost Resident Evil masterpiece, and more people should be able to experience how awesome it is without jumping through a million different hoops to connect to OBSRV.

Now, what do I think we're going to get next? Resident Evil 9 starring Rose and closing off a trilogy about the Winters family. Possibly open-world built on the fork of Reach for the Moon Dragon's Dogma 2 was built on. Either at the same time or shortly before or after, Resident Evil CODE:Veronica Remake, because it's the game most everyone in the fandom has been clamouring for for years now. Potentially Resident Evil 5 Remake (because it has to be coming, whether I like it or not...) if it's further along in development than CVR.

There are rumours that a second remake of the first Resident Evil is due out in 2026 for the series' 30th Anniversary, and while I could see that, I have extremely mixed feelings about whether or not I think that's a good idea, or even warranted.

My thoughts on Pitchfork's 150 best albums of the 1990s; #30-#21

There are three completely subjective criteria. 1: do I like the album, yes or no? (Basically, is this for me?) 2: Would I recommend it to anyone, yes or no? (is this for anyone else?) and 3: Is it better than STPs "Core"? (The lowest bar. Few things are better than "Purple," but Core should absolutely be in the top 150, so that's the bar.)

30: Mos Def: Black on Both Sides (1999). I don't know much, but I know he's one of the Greats. Not everything has aged well, but it's good.

Like it: yes. Recommend: yes. Better than "Core": yes.

29: Pavement: Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (1994). I don't know, folks. I don't think it's good, but I tapped my foot a few times. And the people who make Pavement a huge part of their personality will probably be more appalled at the idea that I was medium than they would be if I just hated it.

Like it: no. Recommend: no. Better than "Core": no.

28: Björk: Post (1995). Björk is great. This album is proof. Legend has it that when the current Björk retires or boards the ships for the West or whatever, the fair folk will hold a council to elect a new Björk. There must always be Björk.

27: Public Enemy: Fear of a Black Planet (1990). It was fine. Very listenable. I can't speak to how important it was at the time fully. But It holds the hell up.

26: Boards of Canada: Music Has the Right to Children (1998). This was fine. It wasn't as good as the Great electronic/psychadelic artists of earlier eras. Or as good as Aphex Twin. Or as good as Nine Inch Nails. I guess it's more...accessible? Is that why it's this high?

Like it: sure. Recommend: maybe. Better than "Core": no.

25: Belle and Sebastian: If You’re Feeling Sinister (1996). If you draw a straight line from The Kinks to Alexi Murdoch, this album is on that line. It's not bad, and it's even pleasant. Is it GREAT, though? Not in my opinion. And I've been listening to human music since before the 1990s.

Also, it occurs to me that another possible standard against which I can grade is Weird Al. There's no Weird Al on this list, and he had four banger albums come out in the 1990s: Off the Deep End, Alapalooza, Bad Hair Day, and Running with Scissors.

Why am I talking about Al when I'm supposed to be waxing philosophical about Belle & Sebastian? Because if this list isn't going to put Al in the rarefied air of the Top 25 THEN I WILL.

Like it: yes. Recommend: no. Better than "Core": no way.

24: Dr. Dre: The Chronic (1992). There was no album that sounded like this before this. And not really anything like this after this. Which is not necessarily good, but I get why it's venerated. That being said, the various lyricists featured...say a lot of things that...we're not saying anymore? Like, we decided as a culture to talk about these things in new ways that were less misogynistic? So...I'd say it's both immortal, and hasn't aged well.

Like a lich. This album is a lich. And I guess there's a place for a lich in any prosperous musical ecosystem...

23: Elliott Smith: Either/Or (1997). *sigh* I don't know. I feel like I tried. I tried to be open. But it's nothing. This album, this artist, this whole world of raspy melodies about the way I wish things were...doesn't work.

22: Nas: Illmatic (1994). Maybe this whole endeavor was a mistake. I can't speak to these things. I know nothing. This album was good.

21: Silver Jews: American Water (1998). I was not surprised, halfway through listening to thi album, to discover that it is Pavement-adjacent (sharing a couple of members.) I was not surprised, because it has that certain "I can tell without discussing it with anyone, that it is overrated. Beloved by certain musicheads." It's not good. It's like if Modest Mouse listened to way too much Jesus & Mary Chain. Doesn't belong this high. Probably shouldn't be in the top 100. Pressing on.

The "Mirror, Mirror" Shifting Method

This method has a couple parts to it so bear with me here, I promise it's a good one. (Hopefully)

Mind Reprogramming (daily task)

Awake Method

or Sleep Method

Part I - Mind Reprogramming

This is the most important part of the method, so pay attention carefully.

If you've ever been to the spooky side of the internet, or even played spooky games at a sleepover you'll probably have heard of the game I'm about to describe. If not, don't worry, as I said, I'm about to describe it.

Basically, how the game works is you go into a room (usually a bathroom) that has a big enough mirror in it. You close the door, shut any window blinds, turn off the lights - basically make sure it's pitch black and completely dark. Then the game gets spooky because your mind fills in the blanks and makes like, eyes behind you or warps your features. Some people control it and change their surroundings to purposefully scare themselves or others when recounting their time.

The Reprogramming works in a similar way/works off of this.

To reprogram your mind, go into the pitch dark room with the mirror and stand in front of it like in the game. Instead of spooky things, however, imagine you look like your DRself. Basically, help your mind "fill in the blanks" and spend 10-15 minutes doing this and "seeing" your DRself in the mirror. You can go as far as trying to invision the bathroom/equivalent room and getting it to look like the one in your DR.

I suggest doing this 3-5 times a day in order to reprogram your mind and get it used to seeing this DRself and associating it as being you. (Because it is.)

Part II - The Awake Method

This is method 1/2 and is for if you prefer or want to try doing it as an Awake Method. Sit in a comfortable spot, on a bed, in a chair, on your couch, wherever it is you want to shift. Then take some deep breaths and close your eyes. Start visualizing, you can affirm if you'd like to during the method, but you don't have to. It's recommended to affirm before beginning.

With your eyes closed, visualize yourself (in first or third person, however is easiest for you) exactly as you are in your CR. You're in the room with the mirror, the one from the CR, but it looks bright in your mind's eye. Visualize that the room is lit, basically. Now visualize yourself approaching the mirror.

At the mirror you see your DRself (the one you've been seeing in step 1) and they mirror your actions. They look just like your mind remembers. Then, visualize the bathroom behind them. Visualize them reaching through the mirror slowly, affirming that you are them, and offering you their hand. Visualize that they ask if you are ready.

If you aren't ready allow your DRself to continue affirming that you are shifting to them. If you are ready then take their hand and try as hard as you can to visualize the entirety of that bathroom. Imagine them pulling you through and you fall into them, colliding and lying on the floor of your DR. Visualize yourself getting up and looking in the mirror. You see only your DR bathroom behind you in the mirror, and you are your DRself in the mirror.

Take a breath and close your eyes. Do a final round of affirming as your DRself, then open your eyes and see that you've shifted.

Part III - The Sleep Method

This is method 2/2 and is a sleep method. To do this method please go lie down on your bed, a couch, or wherever it is you plan to fall asleep and shift. Take some deep breaths and affirm a bit while you calm down. Then close your eyes and do a few more affirmations. It’s just about time to begin visualizing, and you can affirm if you’d like whenever you want during the method, but the only time you really should is towards the end and right before starting the method. 

With your eyes closed, visualize yourself (in first or third person, however is easiest for you) exactly as you are in your CR. Visiualize that you're in the room with the mirror, the one from the CR, but it looks bright in your mind's eye. Basically, visualize that the room is lit. Now visualize yourself approaching the mirror.

At the mirror you see your DRself (the one you've been seeing in step 1) and they mirror your actions. They look just like your mind remembers. Then, visualize the bathroom behind them. Visualize them reaching through the mirror slowly, affirming that you are them, and offering you their hand. Visualize that they ask if you are ready.

If you aren't ready allow your DRself to continue affirming that you are shifting to them. If you are ready then take their hand and try as hard as you can to visualize the entirety of that bathroom. Imagine them pulling you through and you fall into them, colliding and lying on the floor of your DR. Visualize yourself getting up and looking in the mirror. You see only your DR bathroom behind you in the mirror, and you are your DRself in the mirror.

Turning to the door of the bathroom, imagine that it attaches to your DR bedroom, and take a moment to visualize that and build it up in your mind’s eye. You are shifting, so it may take a second or two to fully become apparent, and even if you’ve only got a vague clue or a vibe of the bedroom it’ll be fine walk into. Visualize your DRself going to the bed in your DR bedroom and lying in it. Fall asleep in your DR bed repeating the line “I am shifting, I have shifted” or something like it until you fall asleep. When you wake up you will have shifted. 

Important Notes:

It is not guaranteed that you will shift with this method, as everyone is different - but the method and the reprogramming will at worst do nothing but familiarize your mind with the image of you as your DRself. 

If you have trouble visualizing, don’t worry, visualize whatever feels natural, and don’t linger too much on one spot or another. 

You will shift, you have the power to do so. You are capable, and strong, and worthy.

“Here, let me see it.” You held out your hand and Thackery handed you his brand new phone. You’d already put it in a protective case and helped him get everything set up, but now you were teaching him how to call you, in the case he ever needed to.

Thackery watched with interest as you tapped the green phone icon, touched the “contacts” button, found your name, and clicked on it, causing your phone to ring next to you.

“See? Like that.”

“So…I press the little phone icon, and find…you and then it calls you?”

“Exactly. I told you you’d get it.” You grinned, handing the phone back to him. “You could also use voice control to—”

“Yeah, I think that might be a little beyond my depth, dearest.” He chuckled. “Maybe someday, though.”

It had only been a few weeks since Thackery had transformed from a cat into a human again. He didn’t have very many belongings, aside from the things you’d hastily scraped together for him in that time. This had involved thrift shopping, mostly. It would be nice to pick him up some good shoes, as he only had a few pairs of worn sneakers at the moment.

You stood up and he did as well, following after you to the theater, where you picked up a pair of tickets for a showing about an hour and a half from now. Then, the two of you went to a shoe store, getting his feet sized before you helped him look around for some he liked. Once he had a few pairs picked out, you paid at the counter and went into one of your favorite stores, one that had all sorts of nerdy shirts and other merch.

“I don’t know what any of these things are.” Thackery murmured, looking up, up, up at all of the T-shirt previews on the wall.

“We’ll get you there.” You promised. You looked up at him and the expression on his face was the softest you’d ever seen him. “Baby steps.”

“Baby steps,” he agreed. “So, riddle me this.”

“Hmm?”

“Is this a date?”

You froze, staring up at him until a smirk slowly found your features. “I don’t know, is it?”

“I’d like to think so.”

“Cool. Me too.” You nodded, grinning.

You helped Thackery pick out a few new shirts and some other little trinkets and toys he gravitated towards, and then the two of you headed back toward the theater. You led Thackery to the line for concessions and when you got close enough to the counter, Thackery stared at all of the candies in the glass display.

“What would you recommend?” He whispered to you, motioning to them.

“Do you like sweet or sour?”

“Sweet.” He smiled, nudging you, “like yourself.”

“Ha. Well, maybe the licorice then, if you like fruit-flavored things. If you like chocolate, M&Ms are good.”

“Interesting…”

Finally, you got to the front of the line. “Hi, we’ll have the couple’s special, some M&Ms, and some Twizzlers, please.”

“Of course!” The girl at the counter said.

You paid, took the tub of popcorn from her, and as the two of you started walking away with your snacks and drinks, Thackery muttered, “Couple’s special, eh?”

“Is that not what we are?”

“We are, I just like to hear you say it, is all.”

You smiled at that. The two of you went back into the theater and found some good seats. You ripped open the Twizzler’s bag and handed one to Thackery, an expectant look on your face.

He took it from you and took a hesitant bite. “Not what I expected, but I like them.”

“I’m glad.” You grabbed a handful of popcorn. “You know, we’re kind of an unusual couple.”

“Given that until very recently I was a cat, I can’t help but agree.” Thackery chuckled and his hand settled on top of yours. “But…I’m happy and I hope you are too.”

“I am.” You gave his hand a squeeze and leaned closer, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Very, very much so.”
