When you first started to date Luke you learned a crucial lesson.

You hate it when people spend money on you. Don’t remember when you became like this. You never allowed anyone to spend their money on you, an independent woman.

This always leads to stupid, small arguments with Luke. He tries to spoil you, but you won’t let him. You can’t even look at anything for longer than a second, or Luke is already at the cash register. 

The same goes for food. One time, you saw a new bakery opening in the next town over that you wanted to try but were too busy due to work. You briefly mentioned it to Luke, and the next day, he came to your job with sweet treats from the bakery.

 You and Luke head toward his car; you want to get a new dress for the upcoming Devils charity event. Luke insisted on coming so he could see what color you picked so he could match (You knew that’s not the only reason, but you can never say no when he pouts). 

Luke pulled into the parking lot of your favorite cafe because you needed fuel for your shopping trip. At this point, you two had a routine.

Fight over who pays

Luke opens the car door for you 

You go in and order while Luke keeps the car warm for you 

You never mind the last part.

You had a plan: run into the cafe, order, and pay. When Luke put the car in park, you grabbed the door handle and tried to open it, but it was locked. You felt Luke's grip tighten on your thigh. “Now, where do you think you're going, pretty girl?” Luke wondered with a teasing smirk.

FUCK!!

“To get coffee,” You murmured, hating that your plan didn’t work out. Luke took out his wallet and handed you his card. “Luke,” You groaned, giving him a warning look. Luke doesn’t back down; he would buy the moon and the stars if you asked him to ”Angel, I insist.” Luke laid your hand flat, about to place his card down, but you made a fist. Now Luke is trying to open your hand.

“I have my own money”

“Save your money, let me treat”

“You always treat”

At this point, you guys were doing rock, paper, scissors, which is the only way to end these types of arguments. Luke wasn’t giving up; he wanted to take care of you no matter how many times he had to have the same disagreement with you.  

You won 

Before you could brag Luke pulled you into a passionate kiss catching you off guard. When you opened your hand so you could grab onto the back of his head Luke slipped his card into your hand. It's a cheap move and he knows it but it was the only idea he could have thought of. Plus he loves kissing you.

“Take” kiss “my” kiss “card” Luke mumbled pulling away by a few inches, you sighed in frustration glaring at the window not wanting to look at him. Luke delicately grabbed your chin and pulled you back to face him, your anger was disintegrating at the sight of Luke’s puppy dog eyes.

“Angel, I know you don’t like people spending money on you but you're my girl and I want to spoil you” Luke admitted, you softly smiled cupping his cheek “I can spoil myself. I got me and you got you” you told, Luke kissed the palm of your hand.

“But I also got you because I love you” Luke admitted his eyes full of love causing your heart to melt. “I love you too” you smiled, placing his card into the wallet on the back of your phone case, finally accepting that you're not going to win.

“Fine but I’m buying my dress” 

“We’ll see”

You opened the car door but Luke slammed it shut, you raised an eyebrow at him “I got you” Luke whispered before hopping out and running to your side. He opened the car door and held his hand out towards you, butterflies fluttered in your stomach. You took his hand and he helped you out of the car “I love you, (Y/N)” Luke smiled pressing a soft kiss on your forehead “I love you Luke” You smiled pressing a quick kiss on his lips before heading inside the cafe.

Luke sat in the driver's seat staring at the rearview mirror waiting for your return so he could open the door for you. Luke never felt this way about anyone before, he loved you with every fiber of his being and wants to show you how important you are to him. He’ll wait a million years for you to finally let him spoil you because to him you’re worth the wait.

You stood in the center of your small home dance studio, eyes fixed on the wall mirror in front of you. Your body was warm from the constant spinning, but it wasn’t the physical exhaustion that was weighing on you. It was your turns.

You had been struggling with them for days now, no matter how many times you tried, your body couldn’t seem to find the right balance. Every pirouette you attempted ended with you wobbling, and your fouetté turns were messy at best. It was as if your muscles had forgotten everything you’d worked so hard to perfect, and the frustration was building with each failed attempt. You didn’t even know why it was bothering you so much—after all, you’d done these movements a thousand times before. So why couldn’t you do them now?

The sound of your ballet slippers tapping on the floor echoed through the room as you spun again, trying to push through the mental block, but it was no use. With a frustrated huff, you stopped and gripped the barre, your breathing heavy as the tears you had been holding back began to spill over.

You hadn’t meant to cry, but the feeling of defeat swelled inside you. You wiped your eyes quickly, trying to stop the tears before they ruined your makeup. But it was no use. The more you tried to push them away, the more they came, until you were sobbing openly, leaning against the barre, unable to stop the wave of frustration and emotion from crashing over you.

“Hey, what’s going on?”

You heard Ni-ki’s voice from the doorway of your studio, and it startled you. You didn’t even realize he had come in, and you quickly wiped your face with the sleeve of your warm-up jacket, hoping he hadn’t seen.

Ni-ki, your boyfriend and a dancer himself, stepped into the room cautiously. He had been watching you practice from the doorway for a while, but when he noticed your struggle, he figured he should step in. He always hated seeing you upset, especially when it came to something as important to you as dance.

“What happened?” he asked gently, his voice soft but concerned as he walked over to you.

You sniffed, trying to compose yourself, but the frustration was overwhelming. “I can’t do it,” you mumbled, your voice cracking. “I’ve been trying to get these turns right for the past hour, and they’re just… not happening. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, Ni-ki.”

He placed a hand on your shoulder, his touch warm and comforting, but you immediately pulled away, unwilling to let him see how vulnerable you were in that moment. You hated crying in front of him—hated showing him that you weren’t perfect.

“Hey,” Ni-ki said softly, stepping in front of you. “You’re not weak for being frustrated. Every dancer goes through this, you know.”

You shook your head and stepped back again. “I’m not like you. You make everything look so effortless, but for me… I can’t even get something as basic as turns right. I’m so stupid.”

Ni-ki blinked, hurt by your words, and he placed his hands gently on your arms, guiding you back toward the center of the room. “Don’t say that,” he said firmly, his voice taking on a softer, but more serious tone. “You’re not stupid. You’re an incredible dancer. Everyone has bad days, even the best. You’re not defined by a few bad turns.”

You bit your lip, trying to fight back more tears, but your emotions were running high, and it was hard to keep it together. “I’m just not good enough,” you whispered, more to yourself than to him.

Ni-ki’s expression softened. He knew you were having a tough time, and he wasn’t going to let you continue down this spiral of self-doubt. “You are more than good enough. You’re a great dancer. But sometimes… sometimes we need a break. Sometimes the body just needs time to rest and reset.”

You swallowed hard, trying to stop the wave of tears from coming back. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” you repeated, your voice shaking. “I used to be able to do this.”

Ni-ki stepped closer to you, gently wiping away a stray tear from your cheek. His expression was gentle, his usual playful demeanor replaced with something far more tender. “You’ve been working so hard. You’re pushing yourself so much, and that’s amazing. But you can’t keep pushing through like this when you’re breaking down. Dance isn’t just about the turns, it’s about how you feel. And right now, you’re not feeling good about yourself, and that’s okay. But let me help.”

You sniffed again, looking up at him with a mixture of vulnerability and frustration. “How? I don’t even know how to make it better.”

Ni-ki smiled softly and stepped behind you, gently guiding you back to the barre. “Let’s take a moment, okay? Just breathe. Don’t think about the turns for a second. Let’s just dance for the love of it, not for the perfect technique or the expectations. You can do this.”

You looked at him skeptically, but there was something comforting in his voice, and despite yourself, you allowed him to guide you through a few basic stretches. As he held your hand and you both moved through the motions, you started to calm down a little. It wasn’t the frantic, perfection-driven practice you had been doing before—it was slow, gentle, and unhurried.

Ni-ki glanced at you, his usual cheeky grin creeping back onto his face. “Now, how about a simple exercise? We’ll focus on something easy, something that’ll make you feel good. No pressure.”

You hesitated for a moment, then nodded. It was hard, but you decided to trust him.

Ni-ki stepped to your side, putting a hand on your waist and the other on your back to help guide your posture. “Let’s just do a simple pirouette, but instead of worrying about getting it perfect, I want you to focus on the feeling, on the flow. Don’t think about the turn, just think about the movement and the music. You with me?”

You nodded again, feeling a little more at ease. You took a deep breath, and Ni-ki led you through the first pirouette, his gentle guidance helping you find your balance. And this time, something clicked. The movement was more fluid, less forced. You didn’t perfect it, but it felt right in a way that hadn’t happened all afternoon.

“See?” Ni-ki said, his voice light and encouraging. “You’ve got it. It’s not about forcing the turns. It’s about letting your body move naturally, and finding your rhythm.”

You let out a shaky laugh, a little embarrassed by how emotional you had gotten. “I guess I needed to stop thinking so hard about it.”

Ni-ki gave you a soft, understanding smile. “Exactly. You’re allowed to have moments like this. You’re allowed to feel frustrated, but don’t let that stop you from remembering how talented you are.”

Your heart fluttered slightly as you looked at him, grateful for his patience and kindness. “Thanks, Ni-ki,” you whispered.

“Anytime,” he replied, ruffling your hair playfully. “Now, how about a challenge? Let’s try those fouetté turns again, but this time, we’ll do it together. No pressure, just fun.”

You took a deep breath, feeling your confidence returning, and nodded. “Okay. Let’s do it.”

As you both danced through the routine together, the atmosphere in the studio felt lighter. Ni-ki had a way of making you feel like everything was going to be okay, even when you thought you couldn’t do it anymore. By the time you finally nailed a perfect pirouette, you were smiling through your tears, feeling like yourself again.

“See?” Ni-ki said, his voice teasing but full of warmth. “Told you you’d get it. You’re not just a dancer. You’re a fighter.”

You smiled back at him, finally starting to feel the joy of dance again instead of the pressure. “Yeah, I guess I am.”

Ni-ki’s grin widened as he pulled you into a quick hug. “Now, no more tears. You’ve got this.”

Sorry for asking so many questions. All these years of being in fandom (more than 20 years) but finally get a slow burn and sweet queer couple where it might be really endgame and the feelings are all love and care from the very start.

I'm not totally sure what scenes you mean, is it the one at the breakfast table?

Because I guess I have a little analysis on this scene <3 Thanks sosososooo much for bringing it up because I just watched it and I literally died because of how subtly sweet it is on Will's part, which makes it more painful when Mike walks away.

Basically, this scene is supposed to show the level of understanding and care Will has for Mike's feelings. Even after their fight. So when Mike ignores the feelings and walks away, it's all the more painful because it's like Mike has no idea what's right in front of him -- a guy that truly understands him. Therefore, the audience is supposed to root for Will's happiness and Mike seeing that Will loves him.

ALSO THEIR CLOTHES MATCH BUT IM NOT GETTING INTO THAT

So we start the scene with Will staring at Mike while Mike worries about his fight with El. This is to establish Will's POV in this scene. When Will notices that Mike is looking at the plate and the door to El's room, the directors decide to give a separate shot of Will's longing/upset look just to really drive home how much he cares about Mike's reaction and how he's feeling.

To the viewer, it should be pretty obvious by now that Will has feelings for Mike.

Jonathan then suggests that they see a movie and Will, instead of deciding for himself and thinking about what he wants, he looks to Mike.

In this small space of time, Will notices how upset Mike is. He knows that he's not in the mood to see a movie. He also knows that Mike won't say anything. So he makes a suggestion to Jonathan that's not for his sake, no, it's for Mike's. Even if it means making himself sadder, Will is ready to allow Mike to stay at home and probably heal his relationship with El.

What's so lovely about this is that Will doesn't embarrass Mike by throwing him under the bus. He doesn't go: "Mike's feeling upset so we should stay home", he knows Mike well enough to know that Mike doesn't like that, so he just makes a general suggestion.

Jonathan's annoyance at them moping is integral to the scene because it shows how much Will gets Mike's feelings. Jonathan doesn't understand Mike but Will does.

Will then defends Mike and says "It's just..." then looks at him, deciding what to say. In rhetoric, he's saying "It's just... Mike is upset and we shouldn't go", but again, Will understands Mike enough to not only know that he's sad, but also to know he wouldn't want to be thrown under the bus ofc. So he comes up with another excuse.

A super cute and painful thing about this is that Will could easily take all the credit for letting Mike stay at home like he clearly wants. Will could take the credit for understanding him. Instead, he just pretends that the movie is going to suck. Showing how selfless he is. Showing that all he wants is for Mike to be okay, no matter what, even if it makes himself sadder, even if he doesn't reap the reward.

So after all of Will's gentle understanding of Mike's moods and his needs, the audience wants a reward for Will's good deed. Instead, Mike walks away, completely oblivious to Will's act of understanding and love.

The camera lingers on Will for ages, showing that the scene is not about Mike missing El. The audience is not intended to be happy about Mike leaving the table to see El. They are supposed to be frustrated that Mike doesn't see how much Will cares about him. They are supposed to see how good Will is for Mike, and the writer's intention here is to build chemistry between them on Will's end.

So I'm a gay man from a completely different part of the world from any of you, and so I don't have much insight into the dating culture of the US because I've never participated in it - or dating culture at all, really. Nonetheless, I'm gonna leave my two cents on this under the cut. Feel free to ignore them if you'd prefer to.

See, showing other people that you're caring is hard, especially when you're showing it with the intention of pursuing them romantically - which, let's not kid ourselves, is the intention here. "Befriend" is the key word here. Dating people you were friends with befrehand is complicated to say the least, we could have an entire separate thread about it, but to summarize my outlook I think it's half a matter of luck and half one of finesse. If you don't do everything exactly, perfectly right, it can easily end with both of you sad, angry and potentially traumatized - and it will be your fault, not in the sense you'll be blamed for it, but in that it'll be objectiely your fault.

Sure, they might. If they do though, will anyone want it? If they want it, why would they not seek it from someone else? Fictional men and real men are radically different. For starters, fictional men are just plainly easier to grow emotionally attached to because they come with none of the... Another reason you shouldn't use people's attractin to fictional characters as a baromater is because fictional characters are just kind of... Innately superior to real people, in the sense that it's much easier to glance over all the less palatable aspects of their characters and focus exclusively on the aspects that appeal to you. You can't really do that with a real person.

This is of course not even taking cultural differences into account. I am gay myself and even I'm afraid of presenting as femininely as I'd like to beause (body image issues nonwithstanding) I live in rural Brazil and that's just not socially accepted here, be it by women or men. If I were a straight guy and I did try being A Little Gender and Gay I'd get rightfully told to go fuck myself.

So for my conclusion, I definitely don't know enough about the topic to say whether or not you're right about it, but the advice offered is only a basic foundation that only really helps if you've already got okay to good social skills - which let's be honest, just doesn't describe most men, straight or otherwise.

Even if a guy does every single thing you've advised here though, all he'll have accomplished is... Being a sort of okay guy, maybe. That's a good start for sure but even then you're still gonna fall short. You're still not gonna be interesting, or special, or exciting... Or good enough. And in my experience, if you aren't these things already, you'll probably never be.

TL;DR, here's my point: I think your advice is ultimately harmless, but commits the usual error of only providing a semi-real sense of hope. I'm willing to bet a lung that you and your casanove friends all have much, much more to offer to potential partners than anyone in this thread has or ever will have... And that's kinda the problem. The harsh reality you're avoiding is that some people aren't meant to find love - and if you haven't already found it, that probably includes you.

For what it's worth, I do at least have a boyfriend. We'll probably never meet IRL, but it's good enough for me. Maybe the real lesson OP and other guys should learn is how to acept the cards you've been dealt.

The Great Wave - Chapter 14 Review

This chapter felt shorter than the other ones in this second volume so far.

When the chapter covers were only available, I originally thought that she ended up being the guardian of the Tree of Life but it looks like she just settled somewhere vacant in the Sadida Kingdom.

I don't mind cuz as long as she's there, I'm happy hehe 💗💗 She's such a beauty omg

Dathura saying that she's been called once again by Amalia makes me assume that Dathura asked for her help once before but we know it couldn't have been in Season 4 because she was only seen protecting the Tree of Life as it's last defense.

So the first time Amalia has asked for help must've been in Season 5 when Harebourg will be seen as the antagonist. I'm only making assumptions here but it could be true. In a way, it makes sense because Dathura technically does have a connection to Harebourg since she used to be a past member of the Brotherhood of the Frogotten just like him. So maybe she could have helped Amalia by trying to talk to Harebourg or maybe explain to Amalia what may be going when he'll become a problem for her kingdom. Because let's not forget the fact that he wanted Amalia's kingdom to have endless wood to warm up Frigost.

But anyways, Amalia asks Dathura to help her find a remedy for Yugo.

Cuz apparently the belladonna only slowed the process. It didn't actually fade away on its own because it thought it did its job.

Dathura disconnects herself from her meditation spot and guides Amalia to some hidden territory in the Sadida Kingdom.

I found it a bit odd when Amalia asked her where they were here, since she was supposed to have lived in the kingdom her entire life AND WAS ABSOLUTELY THE TYPE OF KID TO HAVE ROAMED AROUND THE PLACE AND MEMORIZE ALL OF IT BY HEART.

But then again, this entire area is ALIVE so it can do whatever the fuck it wants lol

Also let me just say how much I love the fact that Dathura is referring to Yugo as "our" king. She was so chill with Yugo in season 3 and we can tell that she's still cool with him because she accepts him as the king of the Sadida Kingdom.

And that speaks A LOT on so many levels when you know that some sadida citizens do not accept Yugo's people but then you got a part of the Sadida God literally being cool with the king they hate. Like come on now, if you're a sadida AND an eliatrope hater, what are you doing??? You keep blabbing about how the eliatropes are being a menace and "staining" your sadida culture when one of your demigoddesses (who LITERALLY keeps a portion of your god's power, mind you) is straight up just vibing with the man you hate.

Like seriously Amalia you gotta shut them up someday or another.

Another thing that I enjoyed was that I now know, thanks to Dathura, that there is a shortened way to say Grougalorasalar's name. It's Asalar and I don't know why but I find it so cute to say 💕💕 Like it's cool and yet adorable at the same time I don't know how else to explain it.

Amalia then explains what Grougalorasalar wanted and that he'll start attacking again if Yugo doesn't accept giving away the artifacts.

But I am SO GLAD that out of all the things Yugo refuses to give, it's the eliatrope dofus for very obvious reasons.

Like I explained back in the last chapter, Grougalorasalar wanted the Eliasphere since it doesn't belong to them and because Yugo's people have a habit of naming things after their people if they find any powerful artifacts that can support them. But in no way, shape or form does Yugo ever need to give his eliatrope dofus to him. Time Masterlist

March 4, 1942. 3:00 pm.

The bottom of my skirt blew in the wind as I rushed down the sidewalk, passing people by with a quick apology. My shift at the diner lasted longer than I would have liked and I was supposed to meet Steve at the theater twenty minutes ago. 

“Sorry!” I yelled while pushing through a young couple. 

Steve and I had planned on hanging out, the two of us, because even though he hadn't said anything I knew it was bothering him that Bucky and I hadn't seen him in awhile. I worried that he thought I had returned to my promise because I was late. 

Bucky was more than okay with Steve and me hanging out without him. We were friends before Bucky came into the picture, which is why he never got upset with us hanging out. There was also something Bucky had to do today, but he wouldn’t tell me what. 

The last few weeks he had been acting strange and I could tell he was hiding something from me. He wouldn’t allow me to be in his bedroom alone, afraid that I would find whatever he was keeping in there. 

Immediately my mind thought of a beautiful diamond that he could be hiding but I brushed away those thoughts. We had been dating for less than a year. There was no way he would propose. 

Right? 

“Y/N!” 

My feet came to a sudden halt when I saw the small man leaning against the brick of the building behind him. 

“I’m so sorry I’m late. I came straight from work,” I motioned to my work uniform. 

Steve waved me off. “It’s alright, the movie hasn’t even started yet.” 

Linking our arms together, I let Steve lead us into the theater while mentioning that he had already bought the tickets for us. It was a trash movie that we knew not many people would be here to see but that was the kind of movie we loved. Ones that we can laugh at and talk about days later. 

“Have you heard from Buck?” Steve asked. 

We were waiting in line for popcorn and I shook my head. “He said he was going to stop by the diner for lunch but he never showed up.” 

Steve padded my arm. “Don’t look too much into it/, Y/N. Buck’s not that kind of guy.” 

He knew that my mind was racing with thoughts of Bucky with other women. 

“I know but he’s been so distant lately.” 

“Maybe after the movie we’ll swing by his place and see what’s up with him,” Steve suggested with a shrug. 

I nodded and after we ordered our snacks, we continued to walk arm in arm towards the dark theater. We both were surprised that it was somewhat packed but we were able to find a spot in the middle row. 

Everything passed by great while waiting for the show to start but when a man a few rows in front of us started yelling and throwing things at the screen, I knew that the peace had vanished. There was a clip playing about the current war going on overseas and I could feel Steve tense up next to me. 

He sighed before leaning forward towards the guy. “Hey, you want to show some respect.” 

The guy ignored Steve so I gently patted his knee, telling him to let it go. 

“It’s not worth it, Steve.” 

The man wasn’t what had pissed Steve off, it was the fact that no matter how many times he tried to enlist, the government continued to deny Steve. Bucky and I both knew that it was slowly eating away at Steve that he wasn’t able to enlist. My mind was swirling with worry that Bucky would get his orders to fight. I hadn’t stopped to think of how Steve had been feeling with being told no over and over again. 

The man in front of us continued to hurl words, loudly, towards the screen. Steve couldn’t take it any longer, anger radiated off of him. 

“Hey, you want to shut up!” He yelled. 

My body tensed when I saw the man in front of us, twice the size of Steve, stand up and look directly at us. Worried eyes bounced from Steve to the man a few times and before I could part my lips, they were making their way out of the theater. My hushed protests fell on Steve’s deaf ears. 

“One of these days, that poor boy is going to get himself killed,” I sighed while gathering my things and hurriedly followed him. 

His signature catchphrase of whenever he fought bullies, ‘I can do this all day’ bounced around in my mind. 

By the time I reached outside, the chilly air causing my skin to rise, I knew I was too late in stopping the fight. The sounds of flesh on flesh, metal cans falling to the hard pavement lead me to the alley behind the theater. 

The sight in front of me caused my jaw to drop, mouth catching whatever bugs were flying around. Steve was dusting himself off while the man from the theater lay on the ground, blood pooling from his nose. That wasn’t what made my feet come to a sudden halt; it was the man dressed in the army uniform. 

“Bucky?” 

He turned on his heels and with his bright eyed smile, he reached for my hand. “Where have ya been, doll?” 

I ignored his question and motioned to the uniform. “Did you get your orders?” 

Bucky heard the shakiness in my voice so he hesitantly nodded. “The 107th. Sergeant James Barnes, shipping out for London first thing tomorrow.”

I nearly choked on my own saliva at his announcement. 

“Tomorrow?!” 

My echo jumped off the concrete walls of the alley. 

Buky nodded with a soft sigh. “I know, sweetheart. I thought we would have more time but I spent the last few days getting everything in order with my ma so we could have my last night together; with Steve.” 

I couldn’t help but giggle in my sad state at the thought of once again, Steve third wheeling our dates. 

“Don’t feel like you have to include me,” Steve interjerked which caused Bucky to shake his head. 

“I want to spend my last night in New York with my favorite people,” He looked between Steve and I. “You two need to get cleaned up.” 

“Where are we going?” I questioned. 

Bucky handed me a newspaper that read World Exposition of Tomorrow. He was one of the biggest science nerds we knew so it didn't surprise me that this is what he wanted to spend his last night doing. 

No matter how bad my heart was hurting, not knowing how long he would be gone for or even if he would return, I plastered my best fake smile and nodded. 

“Pick me up at my apartment around six?” 

Bucky twirled me into his arms, his soft lips finding their home against my own. The kiss was slow and passionate but quick when Steve sighed with uncomfortableness. 

“Wear your best dancing shoes, doll.” 

I smirked before molding into his body once more, pressing our lips together again. “Always do, Buck.”

To me the greatest hits will always be kandreil (and permutations, though I don't usually read just andreil bc I already read three books with them as MCs and so I don't get curious for more unless the premise is bomb) and kevjean (kerejean too if Jeremy promises to behave).

I thought everyone was in the same page about Stuart/Ichirou and finding out there is only me and like three other people in this fandom that care about them shook me to my core. It's still one of my favorites though I love them and their combined 20 lines.
