I watched Leverage growing up and when I eventually discovered the fandom online/on tumblr I was genuinely shocked to see everyone hated The White Rabbit Job when it had been one of my favorite episodes as a teenager. I understand it's fucked up (part of why I liked it) and a little or really a lot campy/unrealistic (part of why I liked it) but I always like (as an exception to the norm ofc, it works best when it's rare) when the mark is sympathetic, and I liked the weird dream state stuff, and what the story brings out in Sophie and Parker's characters/narratives (and Nate, too, and his arrogance/brilliance/faith in the team). I don't think it's necessarily still one of my favorite episodes but I still enjoy it, although I understand better why some people don't like it. It's just funny to me every time I think about it because I always remember my initial reaction of "what do you MEAN people dont like the white rabbit job????" < totally mystified teenager me

huh, i had no idea it was so unpopular! definitely not one of my favourites, and i can see why it might not be well-liked, but i didn’t know how much people disliked it. i’m pretty new to interacting with the fandom here. im guessing the problems are how much they mess with a guy who’s fairly decent iirc and how the idea of that kind of psychological manipulation happening to you would be pretty terrifying. i can understand that. sometimes surreal things are kinda triggering for various reasons - paranoia, delusions, OCD, etc. and no it’s probably not the most realistic of their cons haha!

though mainly i liked the parker moments anyway, not so much the con. there’s:

one of the last major moments in the sophie & parker relationship arc, with sophie saying she trusts parker to talk to the mark alone.

parker proving that sophie was right to trust her, too, because she talks the mark down by herself, and she does it *as parker*, not as a grift and not trying to emulate sophie. she does it in her slightly awkward, very parkerish, completely valid way - she’s earnest and brave, and it’s not what sophie would have said (sophie would probably be very sweet and soothing) but she doesn’t have to talk to people like sophie. parker’s own way of connecting works, possibly better than sophie’s method would have!

parker opening up a little about her brother. and talking about her Feelings to a stranger!!showing a bit of vulnerability and sharing!!

parker coming back at the end and asking if they’re all good, sophie asking her if they’re all good, and parker saying they are.

THE line "they thought i was crazy, but i never was! i never was" which is SO important. parker’s always taken it on the chin when people say she’s crazy, insane, that there’s something wrong with her (and not in the now-affectionate eliot way). people have told her that for a long time. maybe she’s even believed it. but now she insists that not only is she not crazy now (ie after some time with her new family who’ve helped her heal), but that she was never crazy - not when she was a traumatized and grieving autistic kid, not when she was a scared and closed off teen or young adult, not when she does or says things that people call "weird". and she says it like a realization and she sounds so determined and insistent and aaahh!!! it’s just so important!!!!!

anyway yeah. i guess i don’t know about the episode overall, but i enjoyed the parker moments. she’s my favourite, im not even gonna pretend lol. i really like the sophie & parker relationship beats in this one and that it shows how incredibly far parker has come - without changing who she is at her core. that’s how i viewed it, at least! totally willing to hear other opinions tho :)

I haven’t rewatched S1 since absorbing HOTD discourse in recent weeks, and I feel like I’m forgetting something key about Cristin. A lot of people/posts seem to say that he’s a huge misogynist/bastion of the patriarchy/incel and this very well may be true but my main memory is him saying that Rhae is a c*nt once, which is bad ofc but not out of line with anything else rude that people say in-universe really (imo). I remember thinking that he seems like he really hates 1 woman in particular for reasons unique to him, but if this is true it doesn’t seem to make him any worse than anyone else in this world. HOWEVER, I only watched ep 8-10 once when they aired so may have missed key elements of his character.

i would argue the way he treated and talks about rhaenyra and alicent expose his wider belief on women like his madonna-whore complex the size of earth’s moon where you are made in the image of the maiden and must be spoken of with respect but the second you express sexuality or any other desire as a woman you become a manipulative spoiled cunty spider seductress. no middle ground. like his feelings about rhaenyra have little to no basis in who she is as a person she’s just the unfortunate vehicle in his mind for all of his insane thoughts about sex and gender and knighthood vows because they fucked once. also it’s the way that he violently enforces heteropatriarchy with his sword and body.

So I was rewatching Emerald Secret and when Tatiana was loredumping about forever potions in ep 13, she mentions Michael testing a forever potion on his son not too long before the events of s4

(implied by the fact that she was there, and supported by the facts that 1) she was missing a lot of other info, like the whole fp backstory and not knowing about Katelyn and Garroth, thanks to only recently becoming human and only knows new info, and 2) the whole “Michael (Terry), Elizabeth and Zach have been trapped in a different realm for years and only recently escaped” thing)

and it “failing”. Knowing the events of Angels Fall, this plausibly aligns with the plotline. One problem. How tf did Travis get there??? And back??? Without anybody questioning where he went??? Or with nobody noticing???

I don’t think Tatiana was referring to Ein, as she describes him as a grunt to Michael’s plans, and it’s always pretty explicitly said that Michael has a son, stated by both Tatiana and Derek, and visibly is shown to be Travis in loredrops and the entirety of s6. A son. One singular son.

So the only person she could be referring to is Travis. But what does this even mean? What kind of forever potion was used on Travis? We learn from Ein that forever potions can be reaaally specific. It could have literally been anything. What does “failed” mean? Just not working? Or Travis fighting it off? The imagery shown with the scene is a broken forever potion lying on the ground by what is implied to be Travis’ limp hand, so failed may be a bit of an understatement.

Also, again, how tf did Travis get there and back with nobody taking note of it, him not remembering it (probably more forever potions), and it never coming up again?? Not even slightly mentioned in 3 to 4 side episodes OR Aphmau’s Year, although we do get some juicy Travis lore ep 2 of AsY.

That is also when his whole “omg i feel lightheaded wait did i do that” thing started, so maybe something happened at the lodge that is never shown but implied to be what Tatiana mentioned???

And ofc, my first question.

HOW THE HELL DID HE GET THERE AND BACK WITH NOBODY NOTICING

It’s a snowy forest for goodness sake. He had to have driven there. Why would he go in the first place? Maybe he got a letter from Terry (Michael) saying “hey kid i wanna reconnect heres my address dont bring anyone with you k bye” and he went “oh boy the father that left me shaken and traumatized who just randomly disappeared leaving me alone bcs everyone else i love is dead!! I love that guy!!”

And drove out to see him only for fucking Ein to be there as well as this man in a stupid ass cloak who sounds weirdly like his absent father, they give him a forever potion and it fails (again, whatever that means) and he wakes up in a random lodge with a random backround voice in his head giving him dating advice, having forgotten everything that happened, goes “welp ig he isn’t here i must have gotten the wrong address” AND LEAVES

Did he just tell Dante that he was going on a trip for a few days and dipped?? I haven’t rewatched the 3 to 4 side eps in a long time so I have no clue if he did leave but wasn’t Travis a mildly large role in them with the whole trash thing???

Alright so I just spent like 4 hours rewatching the transition episodes and Travis is a very consistent reoccurring character and isn’t missing from an episode for more than a two episode gap, and him leaving for a while isn’t mentioned, although they do make Laurance returning a big deal, which leads me to believe he left during/right before Aaron’s Ticket, a two part mini prequel to s4, taking place only a few days before ep1.

This makes the most sense, as Aaron in Part 1 goes over to Dante and Travis’ house to get money advice from Dante, and Travis isn’t shown or mentioned at all. He never appears in AsT, and there is an implied gap between the last side ep, Shadow Knights Rule and AsT, because we also never see Gene (and by that extension, the other Shadow Knights and Ivan) again after the final side ep, though they all played mildly large roles in that ep.

It would make sense if Travis left not too long after Laurance bothered him outside of his house (the last time we see the both of them until AsY 🥲) and came back to Lover’s Lane during the small two day gap before s4 starts, after Aaron and the gang left to Bunny Hill, and they just didn’t see each other on the way back. But this also leads to another frustrating question.

Why does Travis not remember the lodge after the whole thing? We could chalk it up to forever potions, yes, but that would be a really specific forever potion, making him have to go home and forget about it. I have the inkling that Dante would at the very least ask Travis questions about his trip, and if Travis just replied with “idk lol I actually have no clue what ur talking about” he’d at least be concerned and at least ask Lucinda for advice when she got back.

It’s shown in AsY that Travis has no recollection of the lodge, only knowing about it from Lucinda (another piece of good lore from ep 2), but he doesn’t get more of a chance to interrogate her about what happened there it until he gets possessed and leaves. It is very much shown that he has no memory of even being there. Which also brings up another point. Aaron and Garroth remember Bunny Hill Lodge, even if just a bit. How does Travis of all people not remember it at all?

Aughhhh so many questions! I’m probably going to chalk up the not remembering the lodge thing to a really specific forever potion that also plants false memories in his head. Forever potions are shown to be able to do that in s4, when Zane and Lucinda refer to Ein as their brother and their memories are completely altered.

OK I JUST FINISHED ACTUALLY WATCHING APHMAUS YEAR (ep3’s thumbnail scared me away the first few times lmaoo) AND I HAD NO CLUE TRAVIS GETS POSSESSED MORE THAN ONCE THIS MINI SEASON?!? AND KATELYN ACTUALLY MEETS TERRY BEFORE THEY EVEN THINK ABOUT STARLIGHT?!? THANK GOD I DID.

Whenever Travis is possessed, he not only gets very lightheaded, causing headaches, but he quickly loses his memory (shown in his second possession) as Michael takes the spotlight and puppets him around until he’s done with him. Travis then regains his memory and remembers what he did while possessed, with it all being kinda foggy, with him questioning if it was really him that did that and being mildly confused about what he just did, before making up an excuse for it and going about his day.

We only just begin to see Travis getting possessed AFTER s4, which leads me to believe that during s4, Travis reconnects with a recently actually present Terry (guess who just escaped another dimension lmaooo) leading to him and Katelyn fake dating and going to Starlight, leading to the events of s6 and Travis getting possessed more frequently until Michael consumes him completely before he gets exorcised and murdered by Kim and Terry, leaving Travis behind unconscious on the floor.

OK SO IVE MADE A TIMELINE OF TRAVIS’ EXISTENCE BASED ON MY THEORIES

-Born to Terry and his wife

-His mom dies (probably due to Michael?? I dont actually know lol)

-Child experimentation at a cool Lodge

-I recently learned that it was apparently a fp that gave Travis the little voice in his head, but its never acted upon until post s4

-Growing up with a father that’s possessed half the time

-Goes to middle school and meets Dante

-His father disappears at some point thanks to Garte and Derek using the realm breaker (they dont know Michael is actually Terry)

-Goes to high school and meets the rest of the main cast

-Whatever he does before season 1 during fcu

-Moves in with his homies (they kiss each other good night)

-Gets blasted to Love Love Paradise

-Starts to become actual friends with Katelyn (dont get me started on how both of these characters were wrote during season 1 and most of 2)

-Moves in with Dante thanks to his house exploding I wonder who did that

- 3-4 side episodes, he starts to learn about potions again from Lucinda

-Gets a letter from Terry, his absent father with a bad influence on him, asking him to go to Bunny Hill to reconnect

-Bunny Hill Incident #2, he goes home with a fabricated filler story, actually reconnects with Terry

-Travis gets possessed for the first time (to our knowledge) and steals Lucinda’s book under Michael’s influence

-Terry meets Katelyn, everybody's fate is sealed

-Terry invites Travis and Katelyn to Starlight Wonderland

-They enjoy themselves for a while (Travis gets possessed every now and then)

-Travlyn is canon for real this time

-Season 6. Travis gets possessed more and more frequently to the point where Michael takes over for him a lot near the climax, and Michael uses his control over the Guardian Forces to manipulate Travis into thinking he’s safe

-Travis gets fully possessed when Lucinda performs the exorcism, takes control over Katelyn and Garroth, Nana almost dies and Aphmau does die due to mildly unrelated events but dont worry she comes back thanks to the fact that shes a third of literal god

-Derek gets relic’d

-Ethereal Bonds my beloved, the lip syncing did Nana so dirty (Travis isnt really in this one i just love ethereal bonds story wise even though it’s definitely not perfect)

-Travis (Michael) threatens to kill Terry and has actually killed Holla and Derek as this twink so his threats are not empty

-Garroth and Katelyn (and Toby ig) are used as distractions to stall Michael, but he takes back control over Garroth by manipulating him and throws him at Katelyn

-Travis and Aphmau beat the shit out of eachother, cool lore, i love the Zane and Lucinda s4 trauma, everyone is a rock now

-Terry and Michael both die at Kim’s hands, the one thing she was good for (im sorry i hate Kim so much) using the cannon

-Travis is now back in control and wakes up to his bisexual girlfriend holding him and says a pickup line, very in character, and passes out again (understandably)

-everyone is no longer a rock, but thats some pretty hefty trauma you got there (i feel so bad for Dante and Laurance) (im making a separate post on them soon)

-Travis monologues about everything that happened and trauma dumps to the sky (fuck you Terry)

-Heart wrenching “not alone buddies” scene, seriously these two tried to kill each other and now they are traumabonding i love it

-Whatever the fuck Jesson has in store for him in One Last Time because i started writing this before it was announced so they might fill in my plotholes later

-He does NOT show up in Her Wish which scares the shit out of me (he isnt dead thanks to Katelyn and Dante not being utterly wrecked the entire time) (but his absence is not a warm one)

-whatever happens after that

Long story short I love Travis’s character and I hope we see more of him

there is no conclusion to this i just like ranting about characters i like and the plotholes that come in the package (headcanons sold separately)

Really wasn’t expecting to ever see them again so it was a pleasant surprise! Bringing back Unity could have crossed the line into being too fan service-y but I think they were incorporated into the ongoing story of the Rick/Rick Prime saga nicely.

Summer and Rick’s interaction:

We haven’t gotten a lot of Summer this season so it’s nice to see her trying to reach out to her grandfather. Summer is probably the second smartest member of the Smith/Sanchez and made the connection pretty quickly that Unity was back and that Rick would be deep in his feels. I love seeing Summer’s empathetic side but it was also sad to see Rick shut her out in the guise of creating “boundaries.” He still has a long way to go.

The President becoming a hive mind in order to achieve an 100% approval rating:

Honestly, a politician enslaving the minds of his constituents in order to get unanimous approval is something that would happen in real life if they could. Absolutely realistic.

Fortunately it was ditched as quickly as it started.

My Thoughts:

A couple of things come to mind:

First, I want to discuss my biggest problem with Auto Erotic Assimilation as an episode. The episode ends with a pretty moving scene of Rick attempting suicide after Unity breaks up with him. Iconic scene no doubt, but a scene I felt had poor justification. The reasoning being is that the only thing we ever really learn during that episode is that Rick and Unity like to fuck…a lot. And abuse substance…a lot. Frankly, the relationship struck me as being awfully shallow. This most recent episode, however, added some much needed substance that was previously lacking. We find out that Rick has confided in them about Rick Prime and possibly Diane and Beth. They were around for the disastrous aftermath of his previous attempt to hunt Rick Prime and when they find out Rick is going to attempt to go after him again goes to extreme lengths to get Rick’s attention and dissuade him from going through with it.

Now, I don’t really want to see Unity and Rick get back together and I do see this episode as a sort of resolution to this relationship. Two people may not be able to make a romantic relationship work but sometimes that can pave the way to something better. Maybe a friendship can form from this that is much more meaningful than a romance, when they’re ready. They both still care about each other that’s for sure, but Rick still has some work.

Secondly, I’ve seen some conversation that Dr. Wong was in the wrong to side with Unity and tell Rick he was squarely in the wrong. Rewatching the episode, in the scene before Dr. Wong and Rick confront Unity the two of them discuss how they are going to convince Unity to take over the President’s hivemind in order to restore everyone. In this discussion they say,

Rick: “So you need to convince [Unity] I’m worth it.”

Dr. Wong: “You aren’t”.

Rick: “So lie”.

A possible interpretation is that Dr. Wong took his advice and said what she thought would be necessary to bring order back to earth which meant placing the blame on Rick. It’s a thought. I don’t know if if clears anything up but that’s kinda how I see it.

Overall, I enjoyed this episode. It wasn’t nearly the fun romp we had with the second episode, but I appreciate a fresh insight into Rick and Unity’s relationship and I like to see Rick gradually warming up to therapy to the point that he values his relationship with Dr. Wong. She’s one of the few people not intimidated by him or afraid to call him out on his BS. Sometimes, finding a therapist that really clicks with you can be a monumental task so Rick got pretty lucky finding the perfect therapist on the first try.

- sk8 the infinity because duh i think i’ll need to rewatch this one too actually lol (there’s like 2 simpable characters in the series and i don’t think they’re your type so safe!!! …i hope im not lying ;-;)

- yuri on ice! toeing the line of simp country but it’s fine, who doesn’t love gay men skating lol

- 91 days! idk if you’ve watched this one before but i recently watched it again and i remembered why i marked it as a favorite it’s just so good! it’s set in the states prohibition time period and there might be some tw’s? like guns, death, etc (because gang wars)

- ranking of kings is such a cute anime and the style is so cuteeee i really enjoyed the story and i remember it won an award (like best animation or something) and you can def see why!

- wotakoi, have you watched this one?? it’s full on romance and it’s so CUTEEEEE but god there is a character in there where i’m conflicted on if i want him for myself or support his relationship ;-;

- great pretender! it’s been a while since i’ve seen this one actually but i remember being so like impressed with how good it was!! also more of a plot (and i swear i mean plot) than characters thing???

- millionaire detective, there’s like 2 (or 3, depending how you swing) characters to simp for but everyone simps for them so technically safe! i will always watch this one for the plot (plot being kanbe daisuke <3 LOL)

Dang I miss Immortal/Undead Male Whump with possible wholesome romance as tv shows...

I just got done rewatching FOREVER (2014) and Moonlight (2008) and want to watch more shows and even movies of the similar tastes and it’s hard to find.

(Forever 2014)

(Moonlight 2008) (Fun facts, the character Joseph from the show voices Terra in the Kingdom Hearts games. A book was published years after the show that inspired the series called “Angel of Vengeance” by  Trevor O’ Munson. The show went on hiatus due to the writers strikes and received 4 new episodes before ending, being cancelled, and not being picked up again.) 

I miss seeing shows where the male lead has to keep the secret or deal with someone knowing their secret and trying to live with it. All of it based more in a realistic reality of the actual world, while still be fictitious enough to have things that could never happen in reality as well.

I know there are some show or movies out there similar, but they don’t fit my tastes or I did watch them for a time and then stopped cause they started getting crazy or boring for me.

I’m not one for watching something with sex in it, nor a lot of demonic things in it either. Some exceptions have been Angel and Buffy, but those are more supernatural fiction. I tried watch Vampire Diaries and did enjoy it for a time, same with the Teen Wolf series, but they both got to a point I couldn’t stand them and just stopped watching and couldn’t get myself to watch them again. I’ve tried with Teen Wolf, but just got bored.

I did try watching some of True Blood to see what it was like and only came out enjoying the theme song and left that quick. I don’t think I made it past the first episode.

Tried watching Penny Dreadful and same thing happened. The Sabrina remake as well. One ep and then I ditched it. I hated the the demonic stuff and just dipped. Made me miss the 90s show I grew up all the more.

I used to watch Forever Knight as a kid, She Wolf, and Beauty and the Beast as well, but not really into watching the super older shows of late 80s early 90s right now.

Also sucks how I can’t get season 2 of Invisible Man (2000) in the US. UK is lucky and got the second season of Invisible Man, we only got Season 1, which I bought up so fast. Though based more in science, Invisible Man was another good one. Poor guy couldn’t catch a break. Miss it so much.

Thankful we keep getting Psych movies every few years or so, though movie 2 and 3 haven’t been available to buy yet, which is frustrating since they only show it on peacock, though 2 was on USA recently and 4 is in the works.

Enjoyed watching Dracula, the NBC, not the BBC one. That one I hated. I enjoyed Jekyll and Sherlock, but Dracula was horrible.

One I didn’t see until after it aired, that for a time was free to watch on old Hulu, was The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. Very 90′s, but enjoyable all the same.

Taking the Stone is one of the worst Farscape episodes. Like, probably my least favorite (along with Vitas Mortis and Won’t Get Fooled Again), so I haven’t watched it since my last rewatch in 2019. But I recently saw a tumblr post that talked about a John/Aeryn moment from this episode that I don’t even remember, so I watched it again. While I don’t like the episode this time around either, there are a bunch of great John/Aeryn moments- some moments of teamwork they’re always so good at together, but mainly Aeryn knowing how to be the voice of reason to John without showing him her frustration with his obsession to get Chiana to come back to Moya with them. She’s very patient and kind to him. Up until this point in the show, she normally wouldn’t have surpressed her frustration so much. Also Aeryn is surprisingly concerned about Chiana’s well-being but still pleads Chiana’s case to John about why maybe he should just let Chiana stay there and do the jump- that it’s her decision to make. I dunno… John is kind of annoying in this ep, but I love the way Aeryn has been learning to deal with the crazier and less logical version of him when it comes out.

Recently I've discovered this fun little movie called Martin from 1977, it's a vampire movie from George A. Romero (the dude behind the og zombie movie, Night of the Living Dead) and it's super fun! OH MY GODNESS YOU UNDERSTANDDDD 1000000% there are people out there who truly believe that the best, most pure way to keep someone with them is to take all of them. Cannibalism is such an intense device in storytelling, especially as a metaphor and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. That kind of obsessive “love” is scary, not just because of the actions a person may take, but the feelings they harbor. People who are so far gone that the only world they live in is the one only they know and experience? What do you mean you think eating someone is the only way to keep them with you??? What version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar were you reading??? This entire topic reminds me of how love and consumption go hand in hand. If someone wants to go as far as to eat someone they love, do they love them? Or do they want to consume them, own them, possess every fiber of their being and become one with them so they can feel complete again? Does possessing a beating heart mean the same as possessing one torn from the chest of a loved one?

The other trope I’ve been sent tumbling back into is the classic cult story, maybe it's because I just rewatched Hereditary? I think that demons, or entities of incompressible power, are scary because they can't be emotionally swayed. There's physically nothing you can do or say to persuade an entity that has existed for far longer than you could ever hope to, so you have to shut up and take whatever kind of pain they decide to grace your senses with. so i’ve been rewatching doctor who from the (2005) start as a little project for the 60th anniversary - it’s the first time i’ve rewatched most of eleven’s run, and i haven’t watched any of his eps since like….2013? anyway i just finished the angels take manhattan and forgot just how dumb it is as a concept, but did remember you had a lot of hilariously incredulous posts about it when it first came out. why can’t the ponds get on a bus to new jersey and have the doctor pick them up there??? it does feel like such a wasted opportunity to have all these eps about how they’re “growing up” and living their own lives and how that’s sort of nice, only for that all to get torpedoed in their final episode

in general the whole eleven rewatch has been a fun revisit to things that absolutely infuriated me back in the day, to the point i have almost a fondness for them now lol

It's so stupid lmaooo. I haven't seen any of those episodes in years, maybe since they aired?, and while I find looking back I retain a fondness for Amy Pond (more than any other Moffat character at least), thanks largely to Karen Gillan being just so dang lovable, I can't think about her story for too long or my brain implodes.

Angels Take Manhattan is such a goofy stupid end for a character who helped define the era. They really have to just pull together so many contrivances to try and justify Amy and Rory being stuck in the past forever even though their bestie and also their stupid stolen baby are literal time travellers. And, as you said, most of s7a sets up Amy and Rory with a life on earth that they're increasingly attached to only to rip it away from them, too, for uh, reasons. I also remember loving the part where Amy wears glasses for a single episode so that Eleven can have something to wear sadly after she's gone. Those iconic glasses we all remember Amy wearing for (checks notes) 30 minutes of runtime. Why not at least introduce them at the start of s7a. Can't plan too far ahead, I guess.

For a long time I think a lot of the New Who companions suffered from the issue of needing a big dramatic exit, when some, like Amy or Clara, would've done better with a Martha-style exit of their own free will. Of course, more recently, this has been replaced by stuff like Yaz getting evicted from the TARDIS against her will because ? no reason really Thirteen just is tired of her ?, so I guess be careful what you wish for.

Piggybacking off of your recent ask about Dr Edwards, the Grady storyline, and France. Do you think the Grady storyline originally meant to be much bigger? I skipped most of 5A because I was sad about Beth dying, and went on to 5B. I’m on 5x07 right now (delaying the inevitable), and in the beginning Rick is talking about how there are few enough guards for them to get in with the upper hand and kill them. So how much was the Grady memorial operation honestly, unless it got into touch with CRM or one of the bigger “government type” things that popped up in the latter seasons further post-apocalypse?

5x06 honestly felt so weird. I really enjoyed the episode, We haven’t really seen where Daryl and Carol were the entire season, but you could feel how heavy Daryl and Carol’s dialogue was. It also felt like it wasn’t actually saying what it wanted to. I’m kinda guessing a lot of that was to give a shock value when they shot Beth, but it also was just confusing. I was sad you didn’t have a 5x06 meta. If you could add that to you rewatch list, that would be awesome to hear the TD perspective. Especially with how it plays into Daryl’s evolution up to that point:)

I'll do my best to do a rewatch. My work life is super crazy right now, but we do still have (unfortunately) a lot of time before new TWD material airs.

But to answer your question, I don't think Grady was ever a huge operation by itself. But I DO think they were entangled with the CRM. When Dawn talked about someone out there who was coming to rescue them, and Beth just thought she was delusional, I think Dawn was talking about the CRM. She'd been in contact with them and knew they took people in.

But we've also seen that they won't just take anyone and everyone in. Dawn was probably trying to convince them to come get all the Grady people, but she hadn't managed it, yet. Maybe they even promised her they would come rescue everyone, but they just hadn't yet and she didn't know when.

So, this is why we think Beth's story is very tied up with the CRM as well. If she ended up back at Gray after Coda, then she almost definitely ended up with the CRM eventually. And now, in the spinoff, Daryl is finally going to lock horns with the CRM in a big way. Or so we understand.

I AM REWATCHING GRAVITY FALLS FOR LIKE THE SECOND TIME EVSR SINCE WATCHING IT IN 2020!!!!!!

I’m on the last ep of season two rn and omg I forgot so much of season two so it was incredible getting to relive the magic yk?

Anyways I am about to start Crocheting my very own Mable sweater!! I have a whole pack of patterns I bought recently so hopefully I’ll make a bunch 🤭

Also I’ve been watching an ep or two of Avatar every once in a while cus it’s been ages and I miss it.

I want more people my age to enjoy cartoons cus it would make my soul happy <33

They are so full of magic and beauty and I feel like everyone would be so much happier if they let some of that magic back in. As we get older we get so wrapped up in reality that we tend to forget the magic of our own world.

I saw something on insta the other day about how we don’t have to let go of the magic of childhood as we age, because our world is so beautiful. Cartoons hold a special place in my heart and I find it a little funny that I watch them more now than I did as a kid. Every time I watch a new animated show I feel like in some way or another it consumes me and becomes my favorite for just a little while. SU will always be like my #1 but oh my gosh every cartoon I’ve seen has made a mark (for the most part).

In other news I went to my very first comic-con recently so that was super cool! I went as Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim vs the World :) it was super nice and I met lots of cool people.

Good taste btw, I rewatched the series (or most of it? Whatever was on the website I found lol) and despite it being a bit dated with technology (alas suffering the same fate as favorites such as Star Trek TOS lol) but still very good imo.

There were a couple eps where the "lesson" kinda had me going "????" but big love for it regardless lol.

Also sorry this is so long, I adore Batman media (mostly older ones since I'm not caught up on newer ones, but I have watched BTAS, Justice League, Batman Beyond and some animated movies).

Dude I’m so sorry this is going to sound stupid but I haven’t actually watched it T_T I habitually reblog art that I like regardless of if I’ve watched/read/whatever the source material (in my defense Terry’s batsuit is sick as hell). And I follow a lot of Daredevil blogs that also post Batman stuff so it comes across my dash somewhat regularly…

That being said, I am absolutely a Batman fan, I just haven’t gotten to Beyond yet. It wasn’t really on my radar until recently, but now I am definitely bumping it up on my to watch list since I finished Caped Crusader. I honestly don’t watch TV or movies much in general, so it takes me a while to get through things.

My favorite Batman media is the Arkham video games if I’m being completely honest. I’m not as familiar with the pre-2010s stuff or the animated series, but it’s more of a ‘haven’t gotten around to it’ type thing. I keep meaning to scrounge up some of the actual Batman comics online as well…

All of that being said, you are absolutely welcome to dump Batman stuff (or really anything honestly) in my inbox/dms whenever regardless of what I’ve actually gotten around to watching lol. Just a fair warning that I tend to take an ungodly long time to reply to my messages

didn’t want to reblog this to add to it coz I haven’t actually seen the ep yet w my own eyeballs but wanted to get this down before I forget (but I’ll tap the op @evcndiaz and the awesome tags by @fruitydiaz thank u for the brainworms, comrades)

maybe Buck seeing Chris there, and things related to Chris (like the Ferris wheel) are related to this ep being all about parents and children? plus, Buck’s whole thing w the sperm donor plotline is about his clear desire to have children, and his weird blind spot when it comes to the child he has in his life already. Like as much as Buck really needs to work through the trauma of the shooting to make any kind of theoretical potential romantic relationship with Eddie successful, he also needs to work through his own childhood trauma and his ideas of parenthood (and how that directly ties into his lack of self worth and warped importance he places on his physical utility) before he could acknowledge himself as a parent to Chris.

Like it’s NOT just that we haven’t seen them touch the trauma of the shooting! They ALSO haven’t touched on the will again, not between Eddie and Buck, but also not between Chris and either one of them.

ESPECIALLY now that Eddie is repairing his relationship with his parents, like, just hear me out coz I swear I’m going somewhere with this, but the cynic in me feels like aw man are they gonna bring it up again when Eddie says “hey my parents are being nice to me again so imma put them back down as Chris’s number one?” but tbh that would be rly ooc for the show, like that’s just really not their vibe overall (but it WOULD be something Buck would think if he’s feeling down) I mean, sometimes the things the show ends up trying to about parents and family rub me the wrong way but like 80% of the time I really love their ideas about chosen family and family ties in general.

After rewatching some of s2&3 recently I am also reminded of some of the very strong parallels between Buck & Eddie and Michael & Bobby, and so another cynical side of me wonders if they’re leading to another interesting take on a chosen/blended family. which tbh if I wasn’t like “shipping” buddie I think me personally, with my own messy family history, I would find fucking FASCINATING, but there’s def a part of me that would be v disappointed if no buddie endgame and also idk if I trust the show enough to actually say interesting things about chosen family in that way but anyways what I’m getting at is:

IF (just play this hypothetical game w me for a sec) Buck and Eddie are being set up to end up with their own new love interests and those end up being long term partners, HOW does that impact Chris? And what agency does Chris have in this situation, to choose who gets to remain as family? Like if Eddie got a new gf and then they got married, the wife would be assumed to automatically end up as Chris’s guardian in the event. But is that what Chris would want? Even if he likes the new person is that what he would want? There have been plenty of fics I’ve read that discuss what it might look like for Buck and Eddie and their respective new partners if they end up seriously dating anyone new, but very few of them ever truly touch on Chris and his feelings and decisions in that situation. Plus, bc the fics are all buddie endgame, they’re not set up to make new characters that are likable or whatever (which is valid but it just means I haven’t seen this specific dynamic explored before).

But when you look at the Grant-Nash family (and whatever David’s last name is lol) like, the show didn’t make the kids choose! And yeah it went backwards, Bobby and Michael became friends after the fact but like. Athena and David get along. And Harry and May get along w all four adults. And we even get continued bonding scenes between Athena and Michael (until Michael doesn’t show up anymore for meta reason). So in theory, if Buck and Eddie were to end up romantically partnered off with new people, the show has a very strong precedent of allowing them to remain close friends, and for allowing Chris to be part of both of those new family structures. BUT bc it’s a family of choice, AND bc he’s basically a teenager now, it would (/should?) actually come down to being HIS choice, too. Which is what I find fascinating.

And honestly the show is going there! Because there’s the stuff with Denny and his birth father at the end of 6.09!!! And even in 6A with Harry CHOOSING to go live with Michael and David. The kids are growing up, y’all 😭🥺

So anyways back to Buck 😂

I guess my point is that it seems like this season especially has highlighted the kids in the show growing into their own agency. Harry is a little older and definitely started it with his arc last season, but choosing to go live w his dad was a big step and that was the beginning of this season. Chris was keeping secrets and fighting w Eddie and going to his first dance etc etc so, setting him up to actively CHOOSE Buck in some capacity, independent of Eddie, I think would be amazing and would fucking blow Buck’s mind tbh!!!

Like I was thinking in one of the later 6A episodes they’re all in the truck and Eddie is like “he’s not kissing anyone, right? right?” And Buck just raises his hands like “I’m not telling” as if maybe he has insider info lol and that’s a common fic trope and I love to see it. But we haven’t gotten to see it onscreen, no chill exclusively just “Buck and Chris” time, EXCEPT when either Buck or Eddie are in or recovering from some time of peril (or when Eddie is moving on and dating someone new which I will come back to in a sec)! Coz the tsunami arc was bc Buck was recovering from the truck/embolism, and Buck living with him was bc Eddie was shot and in the hospital, and when Chris calls Buck in 5B it’s during Eddie’s breakdown.

And then, the other times we see JUST Chris and Buck, it’s when he flees to Buck’s apartment when Eddie says he’s dating someone else. And we don’t actually get to see them both onscreen but they do spend time alone together when Buck babysits so Eddie can go out with Ana.

So I’m not totally sure where I’m going with this but it’s like: what does the show demonstrate EXPLICITLY and ONSCREEN? It’s Buck and Chris being paired together when Buck or Eddie have been in serious danger, OR when Eddie is seeking a new romantic partner.

Which to ME seems like it might be demonstrating somethin that we all know but that the show has NOT demonstrated that BUCK believes, which is that Chris is Buck’s family, with Eddie (which we get to see LOTS of) or without, whether the “without” is because of infirmity or because of new family structures being built. And when Chris is young, it’s Eddie making that choice for him, but as he’s growing up he’s gonna start making that choice for himself.

Which is what I think is important for Buck! Bc I think he still sees himself as a stopgap, the backup plan, whatever it is he says to Bobby right after the shooting. But I have this sickening feeling that (as I mentioned near the beginning of this ramble) if Buck knew how far Eddie has come repairing his relationship with Ramón, he would think “ah okay I’m finally obsolete.” And then, if after that Eddie started dating someone seriously again? He would KNOW he was obsolete. And he would know that he’s no longer necessary as a backup plan. That he’s no longer Eddie’s lifeline as a newly transplanted single dad, so he doesn’t need to be the fallback anymore. Eddie now has a partner and his “real” family, so Buck, having lost his utility to the Diaz family, can fade away. (for the record I think it’s heinous how easy it is to slip into that “I’m only worth something if I’m doing something for someone else” Buck mindset skfjskfj and obviously I don’t believe any of these statements it’s just one potential bad brain path for Buck to take)

Except!!!!!!!! If Chris chose him, regardless of his dad’s relationships with their Texas family or new romantic relationships, Buck wouldn’t be able to deny him! He might half heartedly try, but he knows intimately what it means to choose your own parental figures. He might not know what it’s like to choose them even if you have good ones already, but he’s not gonna undermine Chris like that. And if Eddie backs Chris up, Buck might finally really truly feel, once and for all, the familial love they’ve been pouring out for him for all these years.

So anyways that’s a huge ramble about why it makes sense for me, from a characterization perspective, for Buck to have Chris show up in his coma dream but not Eddie. And personally I love it, bc all three of the boys (Harry, Chris and Denny) remind me viscerally of my brother in their own little ways and so I get verklempt anytime any one of them gets a storyline lol
