Also coming to defend Gaster.
Even IF Gaster is the Knight and one responsible for the corruption of Spamton and Jevil (which I personally doubt) people are already making him 'the evil villain of all of deltarune' and I’m like, we’re just two chapters in and you’re going to tell me that we already know our big baddie? It kinda sounds weak to me and Toby Fox’s writing is anything but boring.
And so far we didn’t had a completely evil character in any of the games. Not in an irredeemable way. And I think Gaster may be involved into a lot of things but I’m getting a feeling not in a way any of us expects right now. To me he is also just a funny old man and kind of a dork. Eccentric maybe but not evil. In a way I see his personality a bit like Doc Brown from Back to the Future.
yes!!!!! not a single character in any of toby fox's games has been evil! not a single one! spade king comes closest but he's just a shitty dad and an asshole.
all of the characters make mistakes, bad choices, and Going Through Some Stuff, but none of them are evil. antagonists for sure, but whenever i see someone call a character evil i have to Firmly Disagree
gaster Definitely seems like a doc brown type. eccentric, odd, vaguely mad scientist but i believe he is also genuine and believes whatever he might doing is good! even if he DOES turn out to be an antagonist (and honestly... idk? idk how much he's even gonna Be in the game and related to the plot.) he's Definitely Not Evil and it drives me up the wall when I see people claim otherwise
before deltarune, i honestly didn't care. good gaster and bad gaster, there was a diversity that was really cool to see because we knew absolutely nothing about his personality!! but when people make Deltarune gaster evil and mean i just. cannot see it

Something about there not being enough "Killer Y/N" in creepypasta fanfictions annoys me. Like it's almost always Y/N being the one to take care of the Creepypasta. And normally, I don't have issues with that, I love those wholesome types of relationships despite it being with murderers. It's a nice contrast. But the problem is that it's usually so unbalanced, like Y/N is doing all of the work meanwhile the Creepypasta treats them like shit. Going through so much angst drama that makes me roll my eyes instead of being invested in the story. Not to mention that Y/N can be written to be so annoying. Like wtf is up with that? I want to read a fanfic where Y/N is a killer that looks intimidating (and can kill you) but is also a softie. And where the Proxy/Creepypasta is the human who looks normal but is absolutely feral and capable of worse.
I just like the idea of Y/N being this super scary killer, and then standing behind Toby , shyly asking the waiter for no pickles.
Toby, a human who you can probably snap like a twig: Uhm EXCUSE ME, they asked for no pickles >:(= Y/N, a proxy who is capable of gory murderous actions, but is hiding behind Toby: 🥰
I hope all of this makes sense, this is just a thought that's been annoying me >:/
Personally I can't stand shy characters in any sort of media. When people write cpp x readers, typically younger writers but I've seen ppl older than me do this as well- they tend to shove all the bad stereotypes on shyness onto yn then crank em to 11. Where are the yn's that eat people? Where are the Hannibal kinnie batshit bonkers yn's? WHERE ARE THE JENNIFER CHECK KINNIE YN'S? PLEASE.
I know why this happens. It's people thinking shy = submissive and many ppl in this fandom are into that sorta thing but they tend to get a little carried away. You can be either of those things without being a cardboard character. You can be shy and still cap people. You can be shy and still strong as shit and fully capable of fending off that smelly fuck who keeps climbing in your window.
On the flip side, people who try to write a "badass" yn typically end up writing yn exactly how men write women in b-movies. Like the hot girl who hangs with guys and fixes car and has two brothers but has no visible muscle or actual grit type beat. It tends to be frustratingly shallow. I want yn's who commit acts of senseless violence because it makes them feel better about themselves because they're terrible people❤️ Just love me a yn who goes through evil character development completely. They don't just kill because Slenderman wants them to but because they need to in order to keep themselves propped up psychologically.
Also? We just need more mean grouchy fuck yn's. I want a bitch in stained clothes to call someone dumb cunt then kill em. (Can u tell I fucking love insane women?)
Now I get taking a more "realistic" approach to a yn. It's what we did with thio yn, normal and on the reserved side. But she also fights back, feels and expressed her anger, and comes out of her shell. Serial killers are scary people to be around. I get writing them as scared. Personally I enjoy writing a more fearful dynamic but this is because I like to use that further down the line in my yn's arc- to exemplify their masochism. I think it's an interesting concept to explore- how a normal person would get with someone so evil.
And can we as a fandom stop writing the weird shit where the pasta is abusive in every single way to yn and they're just like cool with it. I could literally list all the fics I see do this it makes me crazy. Where is the nuance bestie? Toxic relationships can be an interesting thing to write but hey guys maybe not uhhhhhh rape? Then yn's like omg 😳 so dominant omg I'll learn 2 love him. Bitch I'm gonna get you.
#me going crazy when anyone talks to me about how yns r portrayed#creepypasta x reader#insane and mean and gross and awful yns ONLY!!!!!#also a more violent yn fits better with an evil murderer jus sayin#spookyravioli#reply#im sorry besties i greatly dislike most fanfic in this fandom and only write so much of my own to satiate myself and my need 4 bloodlusy yn

deltarune ch2 spoilers
seriously I'm about to spoil the fuck out of the game and also the Alternative Route For Assholes
ok the 24 hour spoiler ban has passed but still: FINAL SPOILER WARNING.
first: GOD this game is so. GOOD? holy sweet mother of meatball, I have been thinking about it nonstop for the past 2 days. it feels like a shitpost. I love queen dearly. the potassium gag. “what does bosom mean??” “tity.” every single interaction with her and berdly made me PISS myself laughing and especially The Statue. actually this whole game was really, really funny. the part where you and ralsei go on the swan boat, literally on acid, and battle it out with rouxls kaard. who is riding a duck. god where does toby come up with this material?? it is so weird but.... so good. his comedic chops have gotten a LOT better since undertale, and even chapter 1.
the art, music, and mechanics were SPOT ON. the recruitment thing, the implication that at some point you’re going to have to de-recruit someone for the betterment of your town, the town itself, just... good lord. toby has outdone himself. this adds so much complexity to the gameplay that was kind of lacking in undertale? I also love the way that the equipment has been done this time around, it adds an element of strategy to deciding who should get what items and when to equip different items. the team as a whole is so great, mechanics wise. fights with them are INFINITELY more entertaining than fighting alone as kris would be. and the art is WAY better than undertale. I've never been one to criticize Undertale’s graphics, and I still won’t, but it’s impossible to deny that deltarune is a step up in every way. the little animations of kris and susie entering the dark world, susie and lancer’s high-five, the attack/defend animations, just so good. the environments are super aesthetically pleasing, too. the music is great, of course. it’s Toby Fox what am I expecting?? to be honest nothing has really Hit Me the same way any tracks from undertale have, but maybe they will as I listen to them more. a big part of it is the familiarity.
also: I was never too attached to either susie or Ralsei in chapter one, but this really sold it for me. when I played Undertale I felt very invested in the characters, but not so much my friendship with them. it felt very much like we had just met each other. in deltarune I 100000 percent buy the friendship and I ADORE both of them so much? the fact that kris literally does not say anything but still has distinct dynamics with the two of them baffles me but I can’t complain because it is?? so?? amazing??? I was genuinely very upset when ralsei and susie left to do their own thing. I didn’t realize it as it was happening but I really loved having them around. I missed them. also it seems like EVERYONE except me was suspicious of ralsei, but now that it’s been pointed out... yeah. I love him to BITS so it pains me to say but something is Wrong With Him. why can he travel from dark world to dark world without turning into a statue? what are the titans, and why is he only mentioning them now? and actually, ALL of our information about the dark world is coming from him. how much is true? what else does he know that he’s not telling us?
and what. WHAT. is up with kris? I don’t even have any theories I am just baffled. it seems like they’re the knight, right? have they been creating... all of the dark worlds, including the first one in the storage closet? does this make kris the villain? or is the creation of dark worlds a good thing... meaning ralsei is manipulating us into thinking the dark fountains are evil? Why would they slash Toriel’s tires? why are we possessing them? also I LOVE the puppet theme with the hidden bosses... and it really seems like something about that is not sitting right with kris, either. kris full on shouting that they’re not okay to ralsei after he asks... good god I am SO CURIOUS. the mystery element here is really on point. it’s so easy to settle into the comedy and fun little group dynamic, but something is always Wrong and when something reminds you it is deeply unsettling. the only group member who doesn’t seem to have something freaky and suspicious going on is susie... if she turns out to be evil too i stg im ejecting myself from the stratosphere
also speaking of mysteries: not knowing how Undertale and deltarune connect is KILLING me. I fully buy into the theory that sans and papyrus are “from” the world of deltarune, originally. if the theory is true, then word search from icee’s pizzeria you find in UT is actually SO? brilliant. SANS GAVE YOU A WORD SEARCH FROM A RESTAURANT THAT ONLY EXISTS IN DELTARUNE. was toby thinking about this all the way back when Undertale was released??? but is deltarune an alternate... timeline? does undertale exist at ALL, if the sans and papyrus thing doesn’t turn out to be true? but if that were the case, why would sans’ grocery store be the same building as grillby’s, logo and all? does sans owning the grillby’s building indicate that sans went to the undertale world to take it?? what is going ON???
and just going to say it: snowgrave route in deltarune (is that what we’re calling it???) is a MILLION times freakier than the genocide route in Undertale. like ut is depressing, it was Unfun to kill my friends, but the way you just... slowly corrupt pure, innocent Noelle and make her do your incredibly screwed up bidding is just disturbing. the way you just say “Proceed” at all the puzzles and like, gaslight her into thinking she didn’t TOTALLY MURK berdly and that ring seller guy... god it’s so messed up but also SO???? amazing??? murdering video game characters makes you feel like you’re... well, playing a video game. but forcing Noelle to do it for you??? something about that feels so much more twisted. god I feel like a sadistic bastard.
deltarune is not undertale but it’s not trying to be. it definitely feels distinctly different, and maybe more sinister? expectations are through the roof for toby but he’s killing it. I remember being worried when deltarune ch1 was announced, because undertale doesn’t feel like the kind of game that can, or should, be followed up by anything. I think I was wrong though. I don’t know how its possible, but deltarune is the perfect thematic successor to undertale in every way I can think of. tl;dr PLAY DELTARUNE it was good

What is your favorite relationship(s) in the show (romantically or platonically, doesn’t matter!)
Anon you will regret opening pandora’s box. Or not. In any case, this post is going to be very long because I’m full of love. Also, anything marked romantic does not need to be romantic for me to lose my shit over them. In no particular order, either. Just in the order I thought of them.
1. The Black-eyed trio
Characters: Otto, Sparx, and Gibson.
Type: Platonic, Romantic,
Explanation: These three are grouped together by virtue of not being obscenely powerful and serving more practical uses on the team. Also, their eyes are all the same color. Besides the poetic connections of the colors of their design, they were alone in the robot together while the other three monkeys were out training.
Sparx and Gibson’s interactions give me life, going from playful jabs to genuine fighting right back to ride-or-die is amazing. The beginning of Night Of Fear, the battles in Brothers In Arms, and a bunch of small moments throughout the series are wonderful for this.
I could write an essay about Otto and Gibson, and someone else already has, but I’ll summarize it as ADHD autism solidarity with a side of Shut The Fuck Up Gibson. They care about each other and learn to respect each other in a way that’s better for both of them. I know a real-life Gibson to my Otto and learning that she’s just pretentious and doesn’t really hate anyone, and figuring out that we’re both equally brilliant and incredibly similar has made life a million times better.
Otto and Sparx don’t have as much development as Gibson with both of them, but their jokes together and general trust is amazing. Sparx is the dumb monkey and Otto supports him in his himbo endeavors.
These three together make an unstoppable technical team, and the only reason they probably couldn’t be a superhero team on their own is because of the raw power and fun dynamics brought by the other half of the team.
Romantically, these three would make the DUMBEST polycule ever. There is no true mediator here. It’s three dumbasses figuring out how they could possibly share a twin-sized bed when they have the ability to just make a bigger bed. Gibson calculates the most efficient 3 monkey makeout and none of them follow the statistics. They all give Chiro equally useless and conflicting advice on homework. Trying to give them a mediator in the polycule just makes me go back to shipping polymonkeys because I literally can’t decide if Antauri or Nova go better with them.
2. Quiet trust and encouragement
Characters: Otto, Antauri
Type: Platonic, Romantic
Explanation: When Otto is being dismissed by the other monkeys, or by the show itself, Antauri is usually the first to say “that’s bullshit, Otto is wonderful”. Circus Of Ooze is a notable example, but there are little moments in other seasons as well.
I just love the idea of the historically MOST SERIOUS and strongest monkey, sometimes even elevated to god-like status by some fanworks... paired with the monkey that has been infantilized and disrespected to no end. I personally like making Antauri have to lean on Otto, just to subvert that even further.
Beyond spite, I ship this simply because I like their dynamic. Antauri needs someone to ground him with more tactile physical things, and Otto needs someone to share his more nebulous thoughts I can’t imagine the others listening to. I love them.
Also, I want Antauri to unlock his true dumbass potential. He has the abilities, but not the will. Be silly with Otto. I want to hear him snort-laugh.
I literally forgot all the silver monkey stuff but I got three fics about that you know I go nuts over mechanic x robot shit.
3. The monkeys and their human son.
Characters: Chiro, Antauri, Nova, Sparx, Gibson, Otto
Type: Familial
Explanation: This family gives me joy. They were forced together through astronomical means and they made the best of it.
Everyone living in the robot is absolutely fucked up. They help each other in the darkest of times. They lift each other up when it’s light. They are a perfect team and nobody can be missing without it feeling wrong. But they can add people!
“Girl Trouble” as a concept is AMAZING to me but my secondhand embarrassment is so strong that I hate the episode. But never once is any of the monkeys resentful of Chiro. Not even Mandarin is like “wow I wish he didn’t take my place” no he’s also struck with the urge to nurture this kid to his fullest potential. Whether you see the team as a bunch of older siblings or 4 dads and a mom doesn’t really matter, they’re a family.
I mean, this also has a sprinkling of shipping all the monkeys in a really domestic way because I like seeing my optimal future in characters I like, but like literally all of these, it doesn’t need to be romantic for me to go nuts. I just think it would be fun to throw just a big monkey wedding or whatever. And funnier for Antauri to go “Chiro I’m having a baby. The baby is you” and holding up adoption papers because on the principle of Toby “Radiation” Fox I love that joke, especially when made much less weird than the original context.
I have a set of characters who is just 5 people in a polycule raising kids and living life because I really love this concept as a family.
4. Evil Coworkers
Characters: Mandarin, Sakko
Type: Romantic, Platonic,
Explanation: Why the hell are these two, in particular, working together? SK could’ve put Mandarin with literally anybody else and he chose what on the surface appears to be the LEAST compatible person on the account that they’re both monkeys. Some bitter asshole who now looks like the epitome of toxic masculinity and this tiny pink pet who used his femininity both as an advantage and a style. They’re different but it ends up working really well for both of them because they’re different in ways that cover each other’s bases. It’s wonderful. Pink and Orange go well together. Green and Purple go well together. Mandarin and Sakko go well together. Also, they clearly trust each other. During almost the entirety of “Hidden Fortress” Sakko was presumably just chilling inside of Mandarin’s armor. Mandarin trusted him enough to have Sakko in a place where he’s able to mess with his cybernetics, and Sakko trusted Mandarin enough to go into the battlefield with him and probably get tossed around.
If they were both human and in a more modern media, then they would definitely be shipped in the straightest way you can get without actually being straight. The Straightest Gay Ship.
5. A Witch and her Accidental Evil Coworker
Characters: Skelemandarin, Valeena.
Type: Platonic, Romantic,
Explanation: These two have been through some shit. Skelemandy was made to serve Skeleton King only to have that purpose yanked away from him. Valeena was groomed to idolize and serve Skeleton King for nearly her entire life. They were forced together by SHEER CHANCE and they both hated it. Arguably they both died at some point.
They both have absolutely NOBODY they can trust so let’s make them trust each other. All hilarity and sweetness comes from that.
Their dynamic is so good that I have them on a blog for a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FANDOM and people love them with no context.
This is the only cross-species ship I have (besides chinmay and the antauri ships but that doesn’t count), but the fact that Skelemandy isn’t actually a monkey and needs no cybernetic assistance to be human-level sentient makes it a lot less weird. Just put them on equal ground power-wise (like by nerfing Valeena’s magic) and you have the ingredients for bonding.
They have like, no cute moments in canon, but that’s why we have fics and art. They have potential. I want them to help each other figure out who they are without their purpose. I want them to survive this horrible life together. I want them to figure out how to trust again. I want a lot but Valeena is fucking dead.
But she doesn’t have to be.
(Also Valeena is REALLY HOT and Skelemandarin is just me as a monkey)
6. Gay Dads
Characters: The Alchemist, Captain Shuggazoom
Type: Romantic, Platonic
Explanation: Oh my stars. Oh null. Oh me oh my hhougfhfakjghf. These two have the angst of Mantauri but on crack.
They only appeared in about two episodes each and all three episodes are top tier. They call each other “Friend” multiple times in their shared episode. THEY’RE FRIENDS!!!!!!!!! The face Al makes when he realizes that Cap is visiting makes me really happy. The fact that Cap had this whole Batman Double Life thing and he shows the Alchemist BOTH OF THEM is amazing. The alchemist is a hermit living in the woods and he lets Cap into that life.
There isn’t a lot shown, much less than everything else here. But that makes every single fanfic so much richer since they’re almost completely based on headcanons. Friends who have a mutual crush on each other but are No Homo about it? Secret boyfriends? Husbands with 6 monkey kids? An Old man and a grumpy Skeleton making it work? Literally just platonic friends? Dude, you can do whatever you want.
The tragedy of these two losing each other to one big horrible event crushes me. It influences my every move in my creative work. I have an entire character dedicated to reuniting these two in the most astronomical and ridiculous way possible because the alchemist angered the gods but she thinks he needs some company in his eternal punishment.
I want Clayton to unlock Al’s less serious, more fun side. I want them to work together. I want them to hold hands. GHGHGHDFBG UTTHTYE CNAZSNT EBCV ASUA ER
7. The girl power duo
Characters: Nova, Jinmay
Type: Familial
Explanation: These two were my only comfort during the uncomfortable nightmare that is “The Hills Have Five”
Nova was the one who trained Jinmay, and it seems like they hang out a lot offscreen in season 4. They fulfill the early 2000′s cartoon archetypes of girl and Girl, so they’re supposed to get along. If they didn’t I probably wouldn’t like Jinmay.
Nova is a really good big sister/parental figure to Jinmay, who never had any family to speak of.
Anyway, this entry has to be shorter because most of their bonding is in “The Hills Have Five” which is either #1 or #2 in my least favorite episode list. Not because it’s bad, but because it makes me viscerally uncomfortable. I really wish literally any other character than Jinmay was in her role in that episode. Or that the “taken to an offscreen area by an adult man while she screams” just wasn’t there. SHE’S 13!!! Nova did literally all she could to help.
I really like that scene in questionable where Valeena kills almost the entire gang. It’s what they deserve.
Look I just really like Jinmay and I always have. She deserves a good Mom.
8. "My Second In Command”
Characters: Antauri, Mandarin
Type: Theoretical
Explanation: The fandom has really made this ship go from “literally nothing to stand on” to “integral plot point in a lot of fics”. Seriously. I have TWO screenshots that vaguely imply these two ever stood next to each other on the battlefield. This was entirely title-based and fan-made until ProjectAfectivity interviewed Ciro. Yeah he knows Antauri but only as well as the rest of the team. Anyway. Wow. This ship.
This is by far the worst breakup in history. These two, despite what Antauri says, were on equal ground at some point. According to Ciro (and fan speculation), they trained together. This (and other Mandy ship) changes wildly depending on if you think Mandarin was corrupted by the portal or not. Maybe Mandarin was once a kind leader who just crossed the wrong boundaries and paid for it. He could’ve held Antauri gently before battle. He could’ve been the monkey Antauri went to when he needed someone to talk to. He could’ve hyped the team up like Chiro does.
Or maybe, they were constantly fighting against each other in small ways. An incredibly unhealthy relationship, yes, but an interesting story. I like stories where Antauri isn’t this all-knowing pillar of stability. He’s got weaknesses. One of them may have been Mandarin.
Now that’s a good nickname from one to the other.
Imagine Antauri, in a moment of complete trust, declaring Mandarin his weakness. A sweet sentiment. They both know the other is incredibly strong, and trust that the other would never take advantage of that connection. They love each other. Until...
9. "My Closest Ally”
Characters: Otto, Mandarin
Type: Theoretical
Explanation: Okay I'm looking at the screenshot I put for this entry while also having watched Evil Ages recently. My brain is making uncomfortable connections. Combine that with the fandom and the show’s general treatment of Otto and I’m about to slam my head into a wall. I really do not like that, but I feel like there’s somebody out there who does.
Anyway, this is Gibotto and Ottauri but with all the spice that shipping Mandarin with one of the other monkeys brings. When done well, it’s all the respecting Otto that comes with Ottauri and all the intimate partnership of Gibotto. And the Angst of Mantauri, but a lot more grounded.
It paints a lot of stories. A story of a single point of comfort in a world Mandarin thinks is out to get him. A story of powerful validation from the one authority in Otto’s life. Of letting your guard down. Of trust, then breaking that trust.
I’d LOVE to see some things with Mandottotauri because that’s epic and cool and poggers. Don’t see a lot, though.
10.The Hets, I guess.
Characters: Jinmay, Chiro.
Type: Romantic. Platonic. Canon.
Explanation: Look two entries on this list are polyamorous and four of them are mandarin so I have to say SOMETHING for the heteroes following me. Picked this ship over Spova because when I was a young child still suffering from comphet, I never watched the last episode of the show. I only saw up to season 3 at the most. This was the only canon ship for me. And out of all the ships, it’s the most relatable. I’m currently a teenager with black hair who looks really good in eyeliner dating a girl with pink hair who can pick me up and is unbelievably sweet. Except we’re gay and polyam. Wait a second I totally had a crush on Jinmay as a kid and now my gf is the Jinmay in this situation. Oh my god I was going to make this comparison if I did Spova too and I liked Nova.
ANYWAY
These are two LONELY kids. Chiro had bullies during school, and now he doesn’t even go to school. Jinmay hasn’t really had friends at all. Two kids with places in their universe that they aren’t too sure about, and just need someone to lean on. Their date was cute. They instantly bonded over their love of monkeys and I love that.
The super robot is sometimes an analog for Chiro, in the first two season at least, and the way the super robot held Jinmay’s hands to keep her steady on the COB while her head flew in was SO SWEET. Chiro’s instant recognition and reaction to Jinmay’s head being thrown at the team, as well. He really loves her.
I think it’d be interesting if she didn’t love him back, though. I might take a stab at writing that.

Artist Profile: Toby Fox
Many of you may be most familiar with Toby Fox as “the guy who made Undertale”, or maybe as “the guy who made Megalovania”. The latter is actually a surprisingly useful way to think of the man, as the journey of Megalovania is wound very closely to the journey of Toby Fox. Just trust me on this part.
In the mid 00’s, Fox was a teenager frequenting Starman.net, a popular forum for the game EarthBound and the other titles in the Mother series, under the username “Radiation”. He created two ROM hacks of the game, releasing the first one in 2006, but his much more successful and influential hack was the EarthBound Halloween Hack, a submission to a 2008 Halloween-themed competition run by Starman.net.
After Fox rose to popularity, he went on to say that he’s not very proud of the hack, and in a deleted 2016 tweet he referred to it as a “bad rom hack with swears”. Having played through it, it’s an apt description- several of the fights are incredibly unbalanced and the villain drops a few slurs- but I don’t believe the hack should be entirely written off either.
In 2008, hacking new music into EarthBound was incredibly difficult, so both composing original music using the EarthBound soundfont and getting it to play in the game was an impressive achievement. While the game certainly has the usual Halloween aesthetic, full of pumpkins and zombies and ghosts, the real horror of the game is psychological, creating a much more fascinating story than a traditional halloween slasher. The final villain is consumed by grief after the death of his son and the estrangement of his wife, becoming a broken man who turns to violence— which are the exact same themes that would later be explored through Asgore when Fox would go on to make Undertale.
Anyway, this was the first and original appearance of Megalovania.
youtube
In 2009, Andrew Hussie launched his webcomic Homestuck on mspaintadventures.com, his fourth and final work to be published on the site. It ran until ending 2016 (with Epilogues launching a few years later), and is best known for having possibly the worst fandom in modern history until people started losing interest in 2013. Its second most notable characteristic is how heavily it embraced its online medium, including not just text and images but also gifs, animations with music, and even little interactive games. Over the comic’s seven year run over 500 pieces were written as part of Homestuck’s discography by a variety of artists, and while only a few dozen were included as part of the comic, all of them were made available online through Bandcamp under the Homestuck umbrella.
Toby Fox joined the music team in 2010 with two contributions to the comic’s fourth album, and from there he went on to be their most prolific contributor. From 2010-2016 Homestuck published roughly 90 of Fox’s songs, and he also hosted and managed a contest that led to nearly 60 fan contributed pieces being published. After Homestuck ended, Toby Fox went on to be one of the composers for the various spin off titles: Hiveswap Act One, Hiveswap Friendsim, and Pesterquest, so it seems he has no intent to leave the Homestuck universe anytime soon.
Undertale’s soundtrack was highly praised through its use of leitmotifs (and trust me, I’ll be talking about that plenty later on), but some of his tracks written for Homestuck make even better use of their motifs and reach some fairly complex heights. This video goes through Descend, which ended up during a critical moment during the early comic, and lists the twenty seven songs sampled during.
youtube
Of course, these aren’t just empty motifs for fun. The characters introduced thus far all have various themes associated with them, each motif bringing to mind the characters, their factions, and their histories. This is musical storytelling done through completely instrumental songs, and it is fantastically done. Several of his tracks do this, Jade’s medium entrance theme Umbral Ultimatum samples three songs she’d already appeared in, and his final track for the comic’s main run was a glorious melody of several prior battle themes.
Anyway, in 2010 he published the second appearance of MeGaLoVania, which was used during the [S] Wake animation and appeared on a 2011 album.
youtube
In 2012, Toby Fox contributed to an EarthBound fan album called “I miss you”, organized by bandcamp user sleepytime Jesse. He contributed four tracks, including Fallen Down (which would later feature in Undertale) and a remix of Megalovania. This isn’t a major milestone in his career like his EarthBound hacks or Homestuck, but I think it says a lot that he loves EarthBound and its community so much that he’d compose songs for a small fan album.
In 2015, Undertale came out and took the internet by storm. Like it or hate it, it was everywhere you looked for a while, from every gaming channel covering it to endless quoting on Reddit or Tumblr. Fox made the majority of the game himself, which of course includes making the soundtrack. There are a total of one hundred and one songs, and it would not surprise me if every single one of them (except Megalovania) was tied to all the others through some web of samples, remixes, and motifs.
Oh yeah, the third version of Megalovania is here, once again featuring as a final battle theme.
youtube
Once again, Fox uses motifs expertly as a form of storytelling. Let’s take a look at the track ASGORE, which is entirely created from other songs. The opening is bergentrückung, the intro theme that plays before the battle starts. That flows into Heartache, the battle theme of his ex-wife Toriel, showing that even after she left him, she’s still important enough to be part of his main theme. It also includes the Game Over theme, guiding the player to remember that it was his voice encouraging to continue playing when they failed, urging them forward only to reach him, as well as Undyne’s theme, who looks up to and idolizes him without knowing the truth of who he is.
The entire game is like this. If the player decides to turn evil, they gain a genocide motif that appears in some of the genocide-only bosses. The true final boss is foreshadowed through His Theme during important moments. Undyne and Alphys end up dating in the true ending, and in the genocide run Undyne resurrects herself from the brink of death while Alphys’s melody plays.
Fox’s music makes itself special by being so connected. His songs call back and call forward to other songs, making each of them important in some way or another. The Homestuck and Undertale soundtracks feel holistic, they’re not just “songs that happen to be written by the same guy”, they’re united soundtracks where every song has a greater meaning than just the scene they play over. Hell, even the Homestuck and Undertale soundtracks reference each other, and not just through Megalovania. Another Medium from the latter soundtrack samples Doctor from the former, and the final battle theme Collide samples Death By Glamour.
He’s currently working on his new game Deltarune, the first chapter of which (and its soundtrack) are available for free on PC and various consoles. The music already slaps, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Anyway, the fourth and (as of now final) version of Megalovania was included into none other than Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, added into the game alongside a Sans costume for Mii fighters.
youtube
This, in my opinion, is nothing short of incredible. Toby Fox went from a Nintendo fan who made a “bad rom hack with swears” for a game he liked, and now his music is appearing in one of the largest gaming franchises of all time. Shoot for the stars, everyone.
I think this is the part where I’m supposed to give a track listing, but come on, you’ve been reading. 90 Homestuck tracks and 101 Undertale tracks, plus everything before and after and in between. Fortunately, his page on the Undertale wiki has his entire discography listed, so I’m going to take the easy way out and link that.
https://undertale.fandom.com/wiki/Toby_Fox#Discography
He has done and has planned a few other projects, but I think the right place to end off is by mentioning his contribution to Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, the Battle Tower theme. This is notable not only for being an awesome song that he composed for a massive franchise, but because it samples one of his early contributions to the Homestuck fandom. I am of course talking about The Baby Is You, an “opera” he wrote as a fan contribution to protest forum rules, which was subsequently banned from even being mentioned on said forum. Not only is this another example of all Fox’s projects fitting in with each other, it’s also a nearly decade-old callback to an obscure edgy joke he made and then hid as an easter egg (or an afikoman for you Jewish folk) in an official Nintendo title.
And I think that’s beautiful.

Michael in the Mainstream: The Chris Columbus Harry Potter Films
Here’s a bold stance to take these days: I actually still really love the Harry Potter franchise.
Yes, this series hasn’t had a huge impact on my own writing; my stories I’m working on draw far more from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and the Percy Jackson series than they do Harry Potter. And yes, the author of the franchise has outed herself as a transphobic scumbag whose every post-script addition to her franchise has been an unprecedented bad move (save, perhaps, for allowing Johnny Depp the opportunity to work during a very trying time in his life). But while the author is a horrendous person and the story hasn’t exactly given me as much to work with as other stories have, there are so many great themes, ideas, and characters that even now I’d still say this is one of my favorite series of all time. The world of Harry Potter is just so fascinating, the usage of folklore is interesting, and it has one of the most menacing and disturbing villains in young adult literature and manages to play the whole “love prevails over evil” cliché in such a way that it actually works.
And, of course, then we get into what I’m really here to talk about: the adaptations. The movies are not entirely better than the books; while I do think most of the films are on par with their novel counterparts, and they certainly do a good job of scrubbing out some of the iffier elements in Rowling’s writing, I still think there’s a certain, ahem, magic that the books have that gives them a slight edge. But, look, I’m a movie reviewer, and these films are some of my favorites of all time, and as much as I love the books I’m not going to sit around and say the books surpass them in every single way. There’s a lot to love in these films, and hopefully I’ll be able to convey that as I review the series.
Of course, the only place to truly start is the Chris Columbus duology. Columbus is not the most impressive director out there – this is the man who gave us Rent, Pixels, and that abominable adaptation of Percy Jackson after all – but early on in his career he made a name for himself directing whimsical classics such as the first two Home Alone movies and Mrs. Doubtfire. Those films are wonderfully cast and have a lot of charm, and thankfully this is the Columbus we got to bring us the first two entries in Harry’s story.
One of the greatest strengths of the first two Harry Potter movies is just the sheer, unrelenting magic and wonder they invoke. They’re so whimsical, so enchanting, so fun; they fully suck you into the world Rowling created and utilize every tool they can to keep you believing. Everything in these films serves to heighten the magic; practical effects and CGI come together with fantastic costuming and set design to make the world of wizards and Hogwarts school feel oh so real. And of course, none of this would be even remotely as effective if not for the legendary score by John Williams, who crafted some of the most iconic and memorable compositions of the 21st century for these films. In short: the tone of these films is pretty perfect for what they are, and every element in them works to make sure you are buying into this tone at every moment.
The other massively important element is the casting, and by god, the casting in these films is simply perfect. Of course, the title characters and his peers have to be unknowns, and thankfully they managed to pluck out some brilliant talent. I don’t need to tell you how good Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson are, even back in these films, but I do feel the need to say that Rupert Grint is vastly underappreciated; I really don’t think the films would work quite as well without his presence, because he does bring that goofy charm Harry’s friend group needs to balance it out. Matthew Lewis is the adorable coward Neville Longbottom and Tom Felton is the snotty brat Draco Malfoy, and though both of their roles are fairly minor in the first two films they manage to make their mark. The second movie pulls in Bonnie Wright as Ginny, and again, I’m gonna say she’s rather underrated; I think she did quite a fine job in her role.
But of course, the real draw of these films is the sheer amount of star power they have in terms of U.K. actors. You’ve got Maggie Smith (McGonagall), Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), Warwick Davis (Flitwick and, bafflingly, only the voice of Griphook, who was played by the American Verne Troyer in the first film for… some reason), John Hurt (Ollivander), Toby Jones (Dobby), John Cleese (Nearly Headless Nick)… and this is only the first two films. The movies would continue pulling in stars like it was Smash Ultimate, determined to tell you that “EVERYONE IS HERE” and be the ultimate culmination of U.K. culture.
Of course, even in the first few movies there are those who truly stand out as perfect. Smith and Coltrane are most certainly the perfect embodiment of their characters, but I think a great deal of praise should be given to Richard Griffiths as Uncle Vernon; the man is a volatile, raging bastard the likes of which you rarely see, and he is at once repulsive and comical. He’s pretty much the British answer to J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson. Then we have Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy in the second film, and he is just delightfully, deliciously devilish and dastardly. Isaacs actually came up with a lot of Mr. Malfoy’s quirks himself, such as the long blonde hair, the cane wand, and the part where he tries to murder a small child in cold blood for releasing his house elf (which came about because he forgot literally every other spell and had just read Goblet of Fire, so...). Then of course there is Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart, and… well, it’s Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart. I don’t think you could find a more perfect casting choice (except perhaps Hugh Grant, who was originally cast but had to drop out). He just really hams it up as the obnoxious blowhard and helps make him much more tolerable than his book counterpart, though he does unfortunately have the lack of plot relevance Lockhart did in the book, which is a problem unique to Lockhart. Fun fact, he is the ONLY Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in the series to not ultimately matter in regards to the main story.
Of course, the greatest casting choice of them all is most certainly The late, great Alan Rickman as everyone’s favorite greasy potions professor, Severus Snape. I think Rickman goes a long way towards helping make Snape one of the greatest characters of all time, with everything about his performance just being perfect, and what makes it even better is how it would ultimately subvert his typical roles (though that’s a story for a different review). I don’t think either of the first films is really his best outing, butt he first one definitely sets him up splendidly. Snape barely has a role in the second film – something that greatly irritated Rickman during the movie’s production apparently – but he still does a good job with what limited screentime he has. Then we have Richard Harris as Dumbledore. Due to his untimely death, he only played Dumbledore in the first two films, but he really did give a wonderful performance that had all the charm, whimsy, and wonder the Dumbledore of the first few books was full of. The thing is, I don’t know if he would have been able to make the transition into the more serious and darker aspects of Dumbledore that popped up in the later books. I guess we’ll never know, which is truly a shame, but at the very least he gave us a good showing with what little time he had.
My only problems with the first two films are extremely minor, though there is at least one somewhat big issue I have. You see, while I do like everything about these films, I feel like they’re a bit too loyal to the books, not doing enough to distinguish themselves as their own thing like films such as Prisoner of Azkaban would do. But if I’m being honest, this is seriously nitpicky; it’s not like this really makes me think less of the films, because they have way more going for than against them. Stuff like this and the cornier early performances from the kid actors are to be expected when a franchise is still finding its legs. It really is more of a personal thing for me; I prefer when creators allow their own vision to affect an adaptation so that I can see how they perceive and interpret the work, but at the same time the first two Harry Potter books are all about setting up and the main plot doesn’t really kick off until the third and fourth books, so… I guess everything balances out?
It is a bit odd looking back at these first two films and noting how relatively self-contained they are compared to the denser films that were to come; you could much more easily jump into either one of these films and really get what’s going on compared to later movies, where you would almost definitely be lost if you tried to leap in without an inkling of the plot. But that is something I do like, since the first two films have really strong plots that focus more on the magical worldbuilding and developing the characters, setting up an incredibly strong foundation for the series to come. There are a few trims of the plot here and there, but it’s not nearly as major as some things that would end up cut later.
But, really, what’s there to cut? Like I said, these movies are more about the worldbuilding and setting up for later plotlines. They’re relatively simple stories here, and I think that’s kind of their big strengths, because it lets the characters and world shine through. The first film honestly is just Harry experiencing the wizarding world for the first time, with him going from scene to scene and just taking in all of the magical sights. Most of the big plot stuff really happens towards the end, when they make the journey down to the Philosopher’s Stone. The second movie is where things get a lot more plot-heavy, with the film focusing on the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets and all of the troubles that the basilisk within causes. Despite how grim the stories can get, especially the second one, these films never really lose that whimsical, adventurous tone, which is incredibly impressive all things considered.
It’s not really criticisms, but there are a few things that make me a bit sad didn’t happen in the first couple of films, or at the very least offer up some interesting “what could have been” scenarios. I think the most notable missed opportunity is the decision to axe Peeves, despite him being planned and having Rik Mayall film scenes with him only to have said scenes left on the cutting room floor, never to see the light of day; Mayall had some rather colorful words to say about the film after it came out. Sean Connery passing up on playing Dumbledore is another missed opportunity, but Connery has always been awful at picking roles and hates fantasy, so this isn’t shocking to me in the slightest. Terry Gilliam being straight-up told by Rowling she didn’t want him directing is another sad but necessary decision, as was Spielberg dropping out; neither guy would have been a very good fit for the franchise, honestly. Alan Cumming turning down the role of Lockhart because Grint and Watson were going to be paid more than him is a bit… lame, but also I don’t think he’d have been as good as Branagh in the role; as much as I love Cumming, Branagh has this grandiose stage actor hamminess that Lockhart desperately needs. There’s a lot of fascinating trivia facts I learned writing this review, and a lot of it paints some pretty weird pictures of how this franchise could have turned out in another world.
Chamber of Secrets and Sorcerer's Stone are both absolutely fantastic, whimsical fantasy movies, and I’d definitely recommend both of them to anyone who likes the fantasy genre. It’s a great jumping off point for younger people who may not be able to handle something as intense or heavy as, say, The Lord of the Rings making it a very useful gateway drug into fantasy, though it still manages to work perfectly as fun, engaging fantasy on its own. I’m personally more of a fan of the third and eighth movies but I can definitely hear arguments for either of these two being someone’s favorites or even the best in the franchise, because they invoke a lot of nostalgia and charm just thinking about them, good memories of seeing them with my family when I was a kid.
Some have come to view Chamber of Secrets less positively over the years, seeing it as an awkward transitional phase between the lighter, more whimsical adventures and the darker plot-driven ones, but honestly, Between the Columbus films, Chamber is definitely the superior one. It takes everything that was great about the first film and builds on it, and also gives us Lucius Malfoy, Dobby, Gilderoy Lockhart, and way better special effects and a more consistent narrative. The first film is still a classic, of course, but it’s almost episodic in nature and a lot more focused on showing Hogwarts to us than delivering a story. Still, it definitely has the plus of having way more Snape than the second film did, and there’s no arguments against that from me! Both films are very good at what they do, and both definitely deserve a watch.

10 Favorite Characters from 10 Different Things and tag 10 Different People
I don't know 10 people on this website but I was tagged so I'll do it!
1) Papyrus
In case it isn't obvious from my profile picture, I love this skeleton so much! No one writes him as well as Toby Fox himself, and he is perfect! I quite enjoy some baby/kid Papyrus. My heart swells when I think of how cute, ambitious, friendly, forgiving, and pure this boy is. He is also incredibly funny and the best comic relief character!
2) Daryl Dixon
I hated him so much in the beginning of the walking dead. Season 1 Daryl would have been a Trump supporter who waved Confederate flags. No, the love for this man comes straight from his change and progress throughout the show, and my love for him only grows with each episode. He has become a selfless, protective, humble, and well-grounded man who absolutely is a badass and has Big Dick Energy™
3) Tadano
Okay, so... I fell in love with him exactly the same time Retsuko did. He gives off big Sans vibes-- lazy, sleepy, dresses comfy, seems dim or oblivious, then turns out to be extremely powerful and intelligent, just humble about it. Except Tadano is also so soft, and a young visionary instead of a mysterious eternal ultimate weapon. I loved loved LOVED the way they handled their break-up, it was so peaceful and caring.
4) Ben Wyatt
Another character whose role in the story did a complete 180, and who is both hilarious and pure. I also fell in love with him the same time Leslie did. Oops! He's just very handsome and very loving, while also a great comedic relief for his reactions to ridiculous situations.
5) Lars Barriga
If you're sensing a theme here, you're absolutely right. I love those boys who change, either in character or in story role. I was so, so proud of every single one of Lars's achievements... Becoming more vulnerable, becoming more selfless, becoming more confident. And I love how his desire to be a bottom-of-the-totem-pole friend of the cool kids turned into a desire and care for and protect his family of off-color gems and lead them into confidence and freedom.
6) Neville Longbottom
Alright, so... You know my type. Neville was a character, similarly to Lars or Daryl, I loved to see grow and change and accomplish. I was so, so proud of him at every step of confidence, strength, courage, and skill. I thought he deserved the best, from all the ships/love and affection from other characters to being the actual chosen one. I actually planned to write a fan fic about him being the true chosen one. To help study, I took a real highlighter to my hard-cover books. It's... Regrettable that I did that, but also endearing to see the love I had for Neville. He deserves it.
7) Rainbow Dash
Whoa, what's this?! A favorite who is not also a husbando? Yes indeed. My love for Rainbow Dash as a character is far less about admiration for her development or story, but rather her character design. I already love rainbows and have my whole life, but there's just something about the shades of each color that seems perfect. I also love that she's a tomboy who can fly, a goofball and prankster who fights hard for her team. It all just gives me this euphoric feeling of perfect character design! She's a perfect character for me to display, as I already have a blanket of her and a necklace I made of her cutie mark.
8) Tyson
Tumblr is officially under arrest for not having any gifs of this boy. Tyson is such a complex character, but ultimately I think my love for him comes from a similar mixture of pity and pride for a character. I've been surrounded by people with divergent mental abilities and maturities as well as physical abnormalities for most of my life, and being their advocate has been everything to me. Tyson's story of being abandoned, abused, bullied, ostracized and even of Percy being embarrassed or ashamed of him because he was a Cyclops and therefore "evil, dumb, destructive, and a monster" cut me deeply and permanently affixed me to his character. Every moment of acceptance, victory, and recognition that he received, I too celebrated. He deserves the world.
9) Dr. Doofenshmirtz
Dr. Doofenshmirtz is the perfect villain. Funny, full of drama and song/dance, a good dad, and hopelessly oblivious. Similar villains I love include Goob from meet the Robinsons, Lord Hater from Wander over yonder, and Yzma from Emporers new groove, but Dr. Doofenshmirtz wraps it all up into one character. He's also a character who feels perfectly designed, this time including his character and story. Down to the voice, it all fits so well to make a cohesive and absolutely hilarious character.
10) Wilt
Wilt is a character who taught me from a very young age to be selfless and helpful. I admired him so much, and I loved his backstory. Another excellent example of character design and voice acting, Wilt is an A+ character through and through
#runner ups include#clifford the big red dog#Marceline from adventure Time#dick louden from newhart#ryan evans from high school musical#Wilbur and Lewis from meet the Robinsons#i couldn't decide otherwise they'd be on the list#vision from marvel#venom because I love him#spiderham#Captain America#and many more

[Elsewhere: Killer Shack]
*CLANG-CLANG*
"Tra la la. The meeting will now come to order."
Wraith materializes and gets the other killers attention.
"As we have been doing for the last five feed cycles...Tra la la...We will now see if anyone has encountered the new Survivor. Show of hands?"
The room is very still. Till one hand goes up in a cocky way.
"YOU'VE GOT TO BE JOKING."
Trapper says bitterly.
"IF ANYONE SHOULD'VE GOTTEN TO HAVE A STAB AT THE NEW MEAT IT'S ME. I AM THE FIRST CHOSEN. IT IS MY RIGHT TO SPILL THEIR PATHETIC BLOOD UPON THE NEW HUNT."
This is indeed true. While not technically oldest killer, by place in time that's no doubt Plague as she's from a time between 1895-539 BC and by age that is up for questioning as time has no effect on them thus they haven't aged nor have they cared to ask what any of them were, but Trapper does hold the title of first taken by the Entity so he is the senior killer. In order of their arrival there was Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Nurse, Shape, Hag, Doctor, Huntress, Cannibal, Nightmare, Pig, Clown, Spirit, Legion, Plague, and the latest one recruited being Ghost Face. But screw this seniority hierarchy bullshit! Legion's grin is wide, full of bravado, and no one likes it.
"Legion, is it true? Did you come across the human in your trial? Tra la la."
"ah, what's the matter? can't stand that it wasn't any of you that got to have fun with the new meat? well, suck it! that was one of the best hunts i've had ever! *manic laughter*"
Ghost Face creeps his way nearby.
"My my...Two of us now has had her all to themselves. Tell us, darling, how did it go? Was she as Wraith told us? How did you kill her? Details. They are important. Do share."
Feeling like the cock of the walk, Legion puts his hands in his pockets coolly.
"now i'm not one to kill and tell, but since you asked...i didn't kill her."
This gets some odd looks his way.
".........?"
"The Shape is right, deary. How did you not kill her?"
Plague asks legitimately.
"heh...i'll tell you, but i want something in exchange."
"✡⚐🕆 ⚐☠☹✡ 👍⚐☠❄✋☠🕆☜ ❄⚐ ✌💣✌☪☜ 💣☜ 🕈✋❄☟ ❄☟☜ ☜✞☜☼ ☝☼⚐🕈✋☠☝ ☹☜✞☜☹💧 ⚐☞ 👌⚐☹👎☠☜💧💧 ✡⚐🕆 ☝☜❄ ✌💧 ❄✋💣☜ 🏱✌💧💧☜💧📬" (YOU ONLY CONTINUE TO AMAZE ME WITH THE EVER GROWING LEVELS OF BOLDNESS YOU GET AS TIME PASSES.)
The Doctor remarks with a thought they all shared.
"trust me. the info i got is worth it. all i want is a gruesome gateau. and i know at least one of you still has one. you give me that, and i'll tell you every single thing that went down. every...last...little...detail."
"For the Entity's sake! Someone pay the man! I can't take this tease!"
Ghost Face is a needy one. But as a recently recruited killer, it's not like he had the item of request.
"How do we know what you have to say is worth it? For all we know, you're just playing us like a fox with a hare."
Huntress makes a valid point.
"fine. if you really need a sample...she helped me kill the other humans."
This little snippet of what he knew is just tempting enough to win over the majority.
"I shall deliver the offering to you after the meeting, dear."
Nurse says politely and Legion rubs his hands together deviously.
"alright. thank you kindly, lady. now gather round papa legion, kiddies, for i got quite the story to tell."
And he wasn't lying. Legion tells them everything. From her unique terror radius, to her resentment leading to betrayal, and her bizarre behavior before he stopped it from getting worst, to then letting her escape through the hatch. The only things he didn't mention are the small joke moments and the personal torture time. Somethings are just to enjoyed by the ones involved. Not like she enjoyed it. But he certainly did.
"T-This human is an odd one. They n-normally don't t-turn on each other unless w-we're going at them hard."
Pig stutters in thought.
"I'LL GIVE HER CREDIT. SHE DIDN'T STAND FOR THEIR BULLSHIT."
Trapper says with a smirk.
"Come on. she's just a messed up Human. quit sucking her dick like she's the god of all Humans."
Nightmare spats unimpressed.
"hAG thought human was she?"
Oh, Hag, you special bundle of try. Nightmare just glares and shakes his head, he's not one known for his patience.
"What do you think, Doctor? Tra la la."
"✋ ❄☟✋☠😐 ❄☟☜ 💣⚐☼☜ ✋☠❄☜☼☜💧❄✋☠☝ ✌💧🏱☜👍❄ ⚐☞ ☹☜☝✋⚐☠🕯💧 ✌👍👍⚐🕆☠❄ 🕈✌💧 ❄☟✌❄ 💣⚐💣☜☠❄ ☠☜✌☼ ❄☟☜ ☜☠👎📬 ✋❄ 💧☜☜💣☜👎📬📬📬⚐👎👎☹✡ ☼☜💣✋☠✋💧👍☜☠❄📬" (I THINK THE MORE INTERESTING ASPECT OF LEGION'S ACCOUNT WAS THAT MOMENT NEAR THE END. IT SEEMED...ODDLY REMINISCENT.)
"You mean the part where she was TURNING?"
That got them to look at Spirit.
"What? You can't tell me it's not OBVIOUS."
"*cough* Would you care to explain? *hack*"
Clown snarkily questioned through his smoker's lung-like coughing.
"I mean, I don't know if any of you remember, but I know the ENTITY likes to do things to the ones IT LIKES. You can't believe we LOOK LIKE THIS ON PURPOSE."
She brought up a good point. They didn't remember much about their pasts, but they knew most of them weren't as disfigured when they first were claimed by the Entity. Trapper didn't put the iron rods and hooks into his bones. Nurse didn't choke herself with a pillowcase over her head. Hag didn't cake herself in muck and deform her hands. Spirit didn't impale her body in shards of glass and she didn't sever her arms or implant a sword in one. Legion didn't merge with other people because they wanted to. Doctor didn't strap himself into his electroconvulsive gear to pry his eyes and mouth open, nor did he stream the wires into his bones. Wraith didn't lose it's form and identity because it felt like doing so. These were things the Entity did, taking what it knew of them and adding to them, sometimes as a punishment. Sure, other killers didn't go through such visible changes like them. Huntress and Clown only seemed to have blackened out eyes, like a creepy doll or a monstrous shark. Shape, Pig, Ghost Face, and Cannibal were unknowns as they wore masks and tended to don fully covering outfits. The hardest to tell if the Entity did anything to were Plague, Hillbilly, and Nightmare. All three were brought in with some sort of disfigurement so its really hard to say what was done to them if anything.
"SO WHAT YOU'RE SAYING IS...THAT HUMAN, FOR WHATEVER REASON, WAS BECOMING A MONSTER?"
Trapper has a totally non-asshole sounding tone.
"That's my IDEA at least."
It is just an suspicion Spirit had and nothing concrete.
"...THAT'S JUST STUPID."
Never mind, Trapper is just an asshole.
"You shouldn't dismiss it so soon. Tra la la. Nothing is beyond reason when it comes to the Entity."
A very good point made by Wraith.
"✋☞ ❄☟✋💧 ❄☟☜⚐☼✡ ✋💧 ❄⚐ 👌☜ 👌☜☹✋☜✞☜👎📪 🕈☜ 💣🕆💧❄ ☼🕆☠ ✋❄ ❄☟☼⚐🕆☝☟ ✌ ❄☜💧❄📬" (IF THIS THEORY IS TO BE BELIEVED, WE MUST RUN IT THROUGH A TEST.)
Doctor being doctor, always wanting to experiment.
"..........?"
Good question asked by Shape.
"✋ 🏱☼⚐🏱⚐💧☜ ❄☟✌❄ 🕈☜ ✌☝☼☜☜ ❄⚐ ☼🕆☠ ❄☟✋💧 ☟🕆💣✌☠ ❄☟☼⚐🕆☝☟ ✌ 💧☜☼✋☜💧 ⚐☞ 💧❄☼☜💧💧 ❄☜💧❄💧📬 ☞☼⚐💣 🕈☟✌❄ ☹☜☝✋⚐☠ 👎☜💧👍☼✋👌☜👎📪 ☟☜☼ ☜💣⚐❄✋⚐☠✌☹ 💧❄✌❄☜ 💣✌✡ 🏱☹✌✡ ✌ ☼⚐☹☜ ✋☠ ❄☟✋💧 🕯❄🕆☼☠✋☠☝🕯 👌☜☟✌✞✋⚐☼📬 ✌☠✡ ⚐☞ 🕆💧 ❄☟✌❄ ☝☜❄ ❄⚐ ☟🕆☠❄ ☟☜☼ ☠☜✠❄ 💧☟⚐🕆☹👎 🕆💧☜ ❄☟☜ 💧❄☼✌☠☝☜ ☼✌👎✋🕆💧 ❄⚐ ☞✋☠👎 ☟☜☼ ✌☠👎 💣✌😐☜ ❄☟✋☠☝💧 ✌💧 ✋☼☼✋❄✌❄✋☠☝ ✌💧 🏱⚐💧💧✋👌☹☜📬" (I PROPOSE THAT WE AGREE TO RUN THIS HUMAN THROUGH A SERIES OF STRESS TESTS. FROM WHAT LEGION DESCRIBED, HER EMOTIONAL STATE MAY PLAY A ROLE IN THIS 'TURNING' BEHAVIOR. ANY OF US THAT GET TO HUNT HER NEXT SHOULD USE THE STRANGE RADIUS TO FIND HER AND MAKE THINGS AS IRRITATING AS POSSIBLE.)
Toxicity works on both ends of this twisted game.
"What of the other Survivors, deary? Surely they won't let a fellow human go attacked for very long."
Crud, a flaw pointed out by Plague.
"*scoff* those idiots? after that trial and the stunt she pulled, they're going to be looking for reasons to let her get hooked."
A very sad but true fact stated by Legion.

Cue the dramatic evil music score followed by the rumblings of thunder and lighting.
"Oh man, this is gonna be awesome! That punk is going down!"
Huntress needs very little reason to hunt humans.
"oH! hAG have question!"
A simple one is the Hag, questioning things is her specialty.
"Yes? Tra la la."
"WhaT happENS when the hooman sNaps?"
Not a bad question really.
"The darling does bring up a fair point. If and when the human does crack, what then?"
As curious as he is, Ghost Face is a cautious one and thinks ahead when it comes to his methods.
"don't know. i didn't let things get that far. she was hurting herself to make it stop when i stabbed her."
The mystery continues to mystify.

A general sound of acceptance is let out. It's settled.
"hey!"
Oh? Seems something is still on Legion's mind.
"let's get something straight before any of you get ideas when dealing with her. she's mine. so don't go thinking you can have any fun times with her."
This declaration gets their attention.
"Yours?"
Hillbilly is befuddled.
"ARE YOU TRYING TO CLAIM OBSESSION RIGHTS TO THE NEW MEAT?"
Trapper sneers.
"trying to claim? no. i already staked it. i sliced my name into her chest. that human belongs to me."
Obsession rights are not easy to get among killers. Currently, only three had them. Shape claimed the human named Laurie, Nightmare claimed the human named Quentin, and Pig claimed the human named Tapp. They were able to do this because they were brought here along with said humans. Sure, other humans have been brought from spots where the killers came from, but this didn't count as there is no direct affiliation. Legion would have to make a very strong case to pass this before the others.
"Did he just say...?"
Cannibal can't even finish.
"You cocky little shit!"
Ghost Face grabs Legion and pins him against a wall.
"What gives you the right to mark the human before bringing up your claim? Do you want me to kick your ass?"
Before things escalate, Shape comes and parts them from each other.
".........."
"But he broke the rules!"
"....."
Ghost Face huffs in annoyance and backs off, leading to Shape turning to Legion.
".........?"
"don't make it sound like something it's not. she's just a quirky human that happened to make killing more interesting. that's it. marking her was a heat of the moment thing. but i figured, what the hell, this might lead to more fun in the future. so i did it."
".............?"
"*scoff* please. don't give me that crap. if you three can handle your unwilling toys, then i should have no trouble with a plaything that actually will play back."
".......?"
"what? no, i'm not going to stalk her. why would i?"
"See?! He can't even fill the role! His claim for obsession rights are trash!"
Ghost Face is clearly sour over this as stalking prey is kind of his thing. Shape is also a stalking killer, as is Nightmare and somewhat Pig. Hell, nearly all of them were stalkers in some way or another except for a few that couldn't help but make very obvious noise without the help of add-ons to quiet them down.
"geez, man. what crawled up your dress to make you such a bitch?"
"This isn't a dress! It's a shroud! For the killer that needs concealment, but craves attention. Black fabrics help give cover, white glossy textures provide fashionable accents. The long jacket helps to keep the rest of the clothes dry as blood splashes with each stab of the knife."
"whatever, weirdo."
"Fuck you!"
Aggravated with the both of them, Nurse slaps them both on the back of the head as a ticked off mom would do.
"Both of you quit this nonsensical squabbling. Honestly...Half the time I cannot tell you apart from babbling children whining over who took the last cookie from the jar."
"But he..."
"No buts. What is done is done. If Legion has marked his claim, I think he should keep it."
Nurse's words take a few back, though none could see the cunning smirk hidden behind that clothe hood.
"What say you, little man? Can you show us that your bite is as strong as your bark and actually do as you claim? Or will you prove the naysayers right by continuing to boast like a pitiful whelp starving for attention?"
Legion snarls.
"i am so sick of everyone talking down to me like i'm some sort of joke. well, you know what? fuck you! fuck all of you! i'm just as ruthless as you assholes, if not more so! i don't need your stinking approval. that human is mine. and i'm going to show you all that i'm not to be fucked with!"
Legion shows that he's a mature person by storming out of there like a fed-up kid going to brood in their room.
"You didn't have to goad him like that. Tra la la. You know how unpredictable he can be."
Nurse shrugs dismissively at Wraith.
"Funny. Because he reacted just as I predicted. Like a child."
"N-Now that he's gone, c-can we discuss his claim p-properly?"
Fairly asked by Pig.
"IF THE RUNT THINKS HE CAN HANDEL THINGS LIKE A MAN, THEN FUCK IT. LET HIM TRY. IT'LL BE HILARIOUS WHEN HE FAILS. AND IT'S NOT LIKE IT'LL ITERFER WITH US IN ANY WAY."
Ghost Face is not taking this line of talk from Trapper well.
"You can't be serious? What if I went out and claimed a human as my obsession? How would you react to that?"
"I'D BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF YOU AND TAKE YOUR OFFERINGS."
"But...That's hypocrisy! Why can he get away with it and not me?!"
Trapper growls lowly.
"FOR ONE, HE'S BEEN HERE LONGER THAN YOU. YOU'VE BEEN HERE FOR ALMOST THREE MONTHS WORTH OF FEEDING CYCLES WHEREAS THIS WILL BE HIS NINTH. SECOND, YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A TERRITORY WHERE YOU CAN CONDUCT YOUR BUSINESS. YOU'VE BEEN LOITERING IN ALL OF OURS LIKE SOME BUM. AND THIRD, IT'S NOT AMUSING WHEN YOU FAIL. YOU ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND ENJOY IT. HIM ON THE OTHER HAND...?"
Trapper folds his arms and shuts his eyes.
"LEGION MIGHT HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BY THE ENTITY, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE'S A NATURAL KILLER."
Ghost Face is confused.
"What do you mean?"
"*SIGH* IT'S LIKE SPIRIT SAID, JUST LOOK AT US. WE DON'T LOOK LIKE THIS FOR NO REASON. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TRY TO REFUSE THE ENTITY'S OFFER OF SERVITUDE. IT DOESN'T TAKE REJECTION WELL."
"*cough* Typical woman. *hack*"
Clown is glared at venomously by the females for that.
"MY POINT BEING, SOME OF US ARE HERE BECAUSE THIS IS LIKE A PARADISE. ENDLESS SLAUGHTER AND NO REAL CONSEQUENCES. SO YOU PROBABLY TOOK TO IT WITH NO ISSUE. BUT FOR THE REST OF US, THE ONES THAT SAID NO AT THE START...WELL...YOU SEE WHY WE THEN SAID YES WHEN ASKED AGAIN."
"But what does that have to do with him?"
"BECAUSE HE SAID NO TO ALL THIS. HE MAY KILL BUT IT'S NOT SOMETHING HE WANTS TO DO. HE HAS TO DO IT. HE HAS TO PROVE HIMSELF. TO THE ENTITY, TO US, AND HIMSELF. IT SHOWS THAT HE KNOWS HE CAN DO BETTER. I RESPECT THAT DRIVE EVEN IF HE'S A LITTLE SHIT. AND AS ENTERTAINING AS IT IS TO SEE HIM FAIL, I'D BE LYING IF I SAID I WASN'T LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING HIM SUCCEED."
This doesn't seem to help Ghost Face at all.
"So just because I'm new, good at my job, and like it, I don't get to have the same rights as that jackass? That's bullshit!"
"NOT TO MENTION, YOU'RE ALSO A WHINY LITTLE BITCH THAT PISSES ME OFF."
"Fuck you!"
The sudden sound of bone on metal bashes when Trapper rushes over and punches Ghost Face's face, knocking the shrouded killer across the room.
"KNOW YOUR PLACE, NEWBIE. YOU WANT RIGHTS? RESPECT? POWER? THEN FUCKING EARN IT! DON'T BITCH ABOUT LIKE YOU'RE ENTITLED. TAKE TIME TO PROVE YOU SHOULD AND THEN WE'LL TALK."
Ghost Face sneers yet relents...for now. He'll have to bide his time and find some other way to play things his way.
"Um...Other than this stuff, are there any other matters that need to be brought up? Tra la la."
Wraith queries to which Huntress raises her ax up high.
"Oh! I have noticed the signs of an upcoming Blood Hunt."
"Hmmm...Tra la la...This is twice now one has come around All Hallows' Eve."

This gets some odd looks from Plague and Ghost Face.
"I will explain. Once a year for two weeks worth of feedings, the Entity undergoes a purge. During this period, the Entity is infested with blight. The cankers bloom into a strange type of flower that spurts putrid nectar. A thick fluid that oozes like pus from infected wounds."
Nurse explains.
"YOU FORGET THAT IT'S ALSO THE TIME WHERE THOSE OTHER ASSHOLES LIKE TO MESS WITH US. FUCKING HUMANS."
Trapper spits venomously.
"How are the humans trouble during that time, deary?"

"Who's been blighted before?"
To this question, five hands are put up. Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Doctor, and Huntress.
"*cough* To their credit. It's not like they haven't tried on the rest of us. *wheeze* Nurse nearly got the stuff but only was messed up a little bit. *hack*"
"I had a pumpkin for a head. I would not call that a little messed up."
So this is a thing. A thing that no one thought they'd picture.
"Should we tell Legion about this? The dear is also not one that knows of this event or it's hassles."
"NAH. HE'LL FIND OUT ONE WAY OR ANOTHER."
"With that said, is there any further business in need of addressing? Tra la la."
No one has anything further after all of that.
"Very well. Tra la la. Meeting adjourned."
*CLANG-CLANG*
With that, Wraith vanishes and takes its leave among the other killers.
[Elsewhere: Survivor Campsite]
"'ow she doin'?"
David asks Claudette and Quentin, both of whom are tending to Lynsie who inexplicably collapsed after returning from the last trial.
"It's odd. There are no signs of anything physically wrong with her. Yet she seems to be suffering from Hypovolemia, a state of decreased intravascular volume. This may be due to either a loss of both salt and water or, the more likely culprit, a decrease in blood volume."
Claudette's so smart. It's no wonder she's the top healer of the group.
"She mentioned that Legion 'ad a bit of fun with 'er. Probably roughed 'er up pretty good. But the Entity should've fixed that. Right? The damn thing always does when we finish trial."
"I was thinking about that..."
Now for Quentin's evil theory of the day!
"From what Dwight said, the Entity was turning her into a killer. And from what we've found in those pages of Benedict Baker's journal, the Entity will punish killers that either don't perform well or downright refuse it. I think this was her punishment, a small warning, for refusing the Entity."
"And just 'ow would the big nasty in the sky know that?"
"Because that son of a bitch is everywhere."
Detective Tapp joins in on the conversion.
"I've been looking at this place like I would a crime scene. Trying to make some sense of things. It ain't easy. But some things are and the Red Stain is one of them."
"'ow do you figure that, ol' man?"
"Boy, I will slap you if you call me that again."
David rolls his eyes.
"Now from what I've gathered, I suspect that the intensity of the Stain is directly linked to the range of the Terror Radius the Killer has, meaning that Killers with a shorter Terror Radius have a fainter Stain and Killers with a larger Terror Radius have a stronger Stain."
"Makes sense so far."
"I also suspect that the Stain works as means for the Entity to watch over the trials directly through the Killer's eyes. An indication of this being the case is the of that Killer ability Beast of Prey, as the Stain is gone because the Killer momentarily loses their connection to the Entity and is free to roam due to their bloodlust being so strong."
"So the moment her eyes made the Stain..."
"The Entity knew. Probably saw through Legion's eyes why it wasn't working on her. Nutty kid for thinking she could fight off something like the Entity."
"Then what do we do?"
A not wild Dwight appears.
"About her I mean."
The group looks at the unconscious member with uncertainty.
"As much as I hate to agree with Nea, she does make a point. If at any moment for any reason a team member can suddenly start attacking the team, that does make her a liable threat."
Claudette makes a point.
"But it wasn't for just any reason. She only snapped because she was angry. Angry that we didn't even treat her like she was on the team."
Dwight says somberly.
"*scoff* Severs you fuckers right then. It's about time there was somethin' to put douchebags in there place around 'ere."
Judgmental eyes are cast onto David.
"What?"
"You have an annoying habit of trying to fight the monsters."
"So?"
"You end up dying 96% of the time."
"'ey, you 'ave the respect my 4% chance of doin' anythin'."
"Maybe if it was actually helpful."
"Says the twat that spends 'is 'elpful time 'indin' in lockers."
"Hey!"
"Will you both shut it. You're bickering isn't helping anyone."
Dwight huffs and David mutters curses under his breath.
"So getting back to the point, we've covered the whole she'll hulk out when angry. But what do we do when she does get in smash mode?"
Quentin's age really shows sometimes.
"The kid makes a good point. A silly one, but a point none the less."
"Thanks?"
"But what do we do if she does become a killer? It's not like we can take down a normal monster."
"The same thing we do to every other monster..."
Nea shouts.
"Bash them over the head with pallets!"
Nea's guide to toxicity rule #1: If there is a chance to smack something with a pallet, do it!
"Yeah...No. That just pisses people off more."
"We're lookin' for ways to not make 'er mad. I think bein' bashed in the 'ead contradicts that."
Nea folds her arms uncaring.
"I don't care if it makes her mad. The goal is to make what's chasing you stop the chase."
"By pissin' them off even more?"
"It's called tactical frustration, dingus! You make the other person so mad that they want nothing to do with you anymore."
"So bein' a cunt?"
"Fuck you!"
"Fuck you."
*CROWS CAW*
Fluttering shadows morph from the trees and scatter across the ever glowing gloom of the sky. This garners attention above all other matters.
"The crows..."
"Damn it! The Entity was listenin'."
"It's always listening, dork. It just normally doesn't care about what it hears."
"It cared now."
Meg interjects.
"The real question is...Why?"
"In my experience, it's never a good thing for when a supernatural interdimensional elder god takes interest in anything human-related."
Ash rings in with blunt truth. When something beyond human understanding meddles in human affairs it rarely ends without great suffering of some kind. But who would suffer? One of them? All of them? Humans? Monsters? Who bloody well knows?! That's the terrifying aspect of it. Fate's unpredictability.
[Elsewhere: The Void]
My eyes slowly open to fog. Nothing but dark thick fog. The kind of fog that doesn't just blind you but fucks with your other senses. There's this weird floating feeling even though I know I'm touching the ground. Or what I assume is ground. It's something solid and I just choose to believe its ground because I don't want to think of what it could be otherwise. The air has no smell to it, it's dull and messes with my nose. It even has a faint charred smoky taste to it like you've just licked some burnt charcoal. And as for sound, there is none. There's nothing but this weird dead silence that is just eerie enough that I can sense something is around but again all there is quiet. Moving around to explore is not an option. Not that I can't move, I just choose not to because fuck you, I don't want to be automatically killed by unknown danger like the last time I went off into obvious danger zones.
[The Entity sees that you are learning, little worm. No longer running off into the unknown. Very wise.]
Well, that doesn't make me feel better about the situation.
"Look, I'm not gonna beat around the bush here. You can easily mess me up in ways I probably wouldn't begin to think of just for giggles and I'm not dumb enough to piss you off to do so. So in the bluntest way I can think of asking...What the fraggle happened to me and where/why am I here, oh mighty Entity?"
My attitude started to kick in near the end so I figured a little cuteness will keep me from being turned inside out or something else fucked up.
[My, the Entity forgets how bothersome you worms can be. It is no wonder why we do not speak so often. But it is understandable that a worm would be confused by what the Entity does.]
It is at this moment that I come to believe the Entity speaks in the third person and yet in a way that is still grammatically fitting. I guess ego is next to godliness.
[You, you odd and yet interesting little worm, are a strange creature even by what the Entity knows. The Entity has brought you here so that things would be...well...less of a hassle.]
"Sounds reasonable so far. Yet where is HERE exactly?"
[This is the Void. Or that is what you worms tend to call it. It is a different plane of existence. A place where the Entity stores the broken worms that are no longer of any use.]
I remember being told about this place. The Survivors that have given up and lost all hope end up here as they aren't useful food anymore. That explains the feelings this place is giving me.
"Wow. One trial and you deem me Void worthy? Must be a record."
This earns it a bit of a laugh.
[Amusing. No, little worm, you have not warranted a spot of permanence here...yet. The Entity has brought you here for two reasons. The first, to tell you of your role and personal skills in this delicious game. The second will come later.]
I got skillz!
[These skills or Perks are abilities that the Entity is generous enough to allow you to have. Each side is given three, so you worms are just as capable as the beasts. You may choose to share these perks with the other worms or keep them to yourself and hone them to make yourself better. The choice is yours and yours alone.]
So I can either be a decent person and increase the whole team's chances of living or I can be a dick.
[Your first perk is named after that clever move you pulled in the trial...Snowball's Chance.]
This orange diamond or square standing on its points pops up in front of me and it depicts a glob being thrown.
[Snowball's Chance: Activatable Perk. While within the Killer's Terror Radius and in a Chase for 45 seconds activates Snowball's Chance. Once Snowball's Chance is activated, you may be able to scoop whatever you can grab from the ground to throw at or away from the Killer. Choosing the away option will create a loud noise notification for the Killer at a distance of 10/15/20 meters and provides a helpful distraction provided the Killer goes for it. Choosing the at Killer option, if hit in the face, will momentarily blind them as well as stun them, whereas a normal body hit merely provides a stun. Snowball's Chance deactivates once it has been used.]
"That...sounds badass."
Honestly, it kind of feels like an RGP game where I made up a move for my character and some game developer thought it was just cool enough to put the character/move into their game. I'm a fucking nerd and love this shit! The image in the diamond changes to a pic of me crawling with a sneaky grin.
[The second perk is called...Skulker's Instinct.]
Sounds ominous.
[Skulker's Instinct: Always Active Perk. Years of isolation and distrust have taught you a thing about the benefits of paranoia. You crawl close to the floor instead of crouching, this prevents you from leaving Scratch Marks and gives you faster movement speed compared to crouching by 90/95/100%. This level of stealth allows you to avoid alerting Crows but does spook other Survivors if you bump into them, making them yelp and alerting the Killer. Also, if injured, you know better than to make a sound, you hold in the sounds of pain for the first time at least. Any future injuries will cause you to whimper.]
"I suppose that's fair. And I can be creepy as hell, so the random spooking seems about right."
[The third perk is quite delightful. It is called...Breaking Point.]
That one doesn't sound so good and the image of me looking unhinged doesn't help either.
[Breaking Point: Triggered Perk. Due to your mental toughness, you can handle most stressful situations that would cripple a normal person. But you are only human and even you have a limit where things start to get under your skin. The more your team screws around and the Killer attacks you or hinders your progress, the frustrating stress will begin to pile on until you can take it no longer. Resentment Tier I: Your annoyance level begins to grow, you are more agitated and on your guard. Your speed is reduced by 15% and preforming Skill Checks gets hard to do. Resentment Tier II: All effects of Tier I. The continued stress is not helping you, you can not trust your teammates with even the simplest task and the Killer is not making matters better either. Your frustration makes performing Skill Checks extremely difficult as you are not as focused. You aren't sure how much more you can take. Resentment Tier III: All effects of Tier II. You can no longer take it. Everyone is against you. They want you to die. You have no choice. You must kill or be killed!]
This has me disturbed, to say the least.
"Uh..."
[Which leads into your special ability. The Entity has dubbed it...The Anomaly State.]
"Special ability?"
[Yes, special ability. All Killers have one.]
I'm not liking this anymore.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa...Whoa! I am no killer."
[Oh sure. And what you did to Jake was merely some aggressive affection.]
"I didn't want to hurt him!"
[Yes you did.]
"No. I didn't!"
[Yes, you did. You wanted to hurt him for disrespecting you and talking down to you like some lowly worm. And how dare he do such a thing. He does not know you or your hardships. He lived a life of wealth and comfort. How dare he talk to you like he is superior.]
I know what it's doing. It's trying to talk to me like it's on my side. Like it cares. Appealing to me to make me believe in this false sympathy. It is cruel and manipulative...I fucking hate that It's worming into my head!
[And Dwight...He thinks he is so clever, telling you bits and pieces but not whole truths. If he was not willing to tell you everything before, what makes you think he will tell you anything now? Now that he has seen the beast in you.]
It's getting to me. I'm growling softly and making fists.
[Let us not forget David. Surely even you can see that he is merely using you. Pretending to be interested in something more when all he wants is your body. Do you believe that he will remain friendly once he had taken what he has wanted?]
Stop it! Stop making so much sense!
[Face it, little worm. It is as you have always known. You can not rely on others. They have their own motives and desires. No one will help you out of innocence. There is always something others want from you and will do anything to get it. Even if those means include toying with your very heart.]
"And why should I believe you? You have your own motives too."
[That is true. Yet my motive is very clear and the Entity can not lie. The Entity gains no matter if the beasts or worms are successful. The Entity is neither your friend or foe, though you may believe otherwise.]
Damn it! I hate it when something obviously bad makes incredibly good points!
[Now, if you will allow the Entity to continue, the Entity will explain further.]
I bite my tongue. Nothing I say matters to this thing anyway. It's only humoring me for the time being.
[Each Killer has a very unique Power. Each is distinct and stands out from the others. You are no different...and yet you are. This is due to your soul.]
"My soul?"
[Yes. That soul of yours is not natural for one of your kind. It is...rather delectable.]
Creepy.
[But its oddness is why we are speaking and why the Entity sees fit in gifting you such rare power.]
Dare I ask?
"And what be this power that you would bestow upon me?"
It's freaky in how I can almost feel it smirk. The diamond thing changes to a gray square and now shows a split shot of my face. One side is normal. The other side is like Batman villain Twoface.
[Special Ability: Anomaly State. Upon Breaking Point's Resentment Tier III activation, you will undergo a notable mental breakdown and such a snap opens you up to the Entity. The touch of the Entity leaves burning scars and blisters of light. Is it a gift or a curse? That's up to you as you become the Corrupted Survivor. This tainted essence is always within you, giving off a radius that Killers can pick up on and use to track you down similar to the one you can hear to know when a Killer is close by. As the Corrupted Survivor, you only have one goal...Survive. Your team is a liability, holding you down and keeping you in harm's way. Killing them will increase your odds of making it out alive. The fewer there are, the fewer things they can get in the way of. These actions will please the Entity but the real Killer might not be happy about you stealing its prey. True Killers can still attack and kill you in this state, so even they are just another obstacle in your way. You can not kill a Killer. But you can incapacitate them for a short time and allowing you to finish what you have started. Taking down a Killer grants you immeasurable Bloodlust, making your movement speed increase to 10.0 m/s and letting you see the auras of any remaining Survivors for 3 seconds.]
Not gonna lie, that both is blood-chilling and thrilling at the same time.
[However...]
Oh?
[Just as there are ways to trigger this False Killer state, there are ways to prevent and reverse you back to normal. So long as your team performs as you think they should and do not mess up often, Breaking Point will not activate. If Breaking Point is activated and only at Tier I, the effects can be undone by your team avoiding injuring for 2 minutes or repairing 1 generator. If Breaking Point is activated and at Tier II, your team will need to do better by avoiding damage for 4 minutes or repairing 2 generators. If Breaking Point is activated and at Tier III, Anomaly State will activate. If Anomaly State is active, your team can try to revert you to normal by either proving their worth in doing tasks needed to escape or cause you enough pain to regain some clarity. Proving their worth can be done by restoring generators, healing teammates, hindering the real Killer, and unlocking the gates. Clarity through pain is done by blinding with flashlights, being stunned with pallet drops, being disoriented by firecrackers, and being stabbed by carried victims. If Anomaly State is undone, there is a cooldown time of 4 minutes before Breaking Point can trigger again. Killers can also use pain to revert you to normal, with enough damage from clashing with the real Killer you will be back to being just another piece of meat waiting to be hooked.]
The square thing disappears but not the imprint of what has just been told to me. I am now a living version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. At any point in a trial, I can be driven into such rage that I will start to kill my team.
[What say you, little worm? Do you like the gifts the Entity has given you?]
Don't be a smartass. This is basically a god you're dealing with. Pissing it off will only add more salt and acid to this wound I call existence. Though it could do without the condescending tone.
"Though I'm not sure why you've done so, I am flattered you've went to such trouble. Thank you, oh mighty Entity."
Why is it now that I realize I'm talking to a voice in my head? And why does it feel normal? I am strangely okay with this and I am not okay with that.
[Good. Very good. The Entity appreciates this version of you. Perhaps you are now more willing to play by the rules and will not have to be punished for very long.]
This confuses me.
"I'm sorry?"
[Oh, you will be. There are consequences for disobedience, little worm. And the Entity does not like it when others try to deny that which is meant to be.]
The ground beneath me rumbles for a moment before I lose my balance and end up impaled through the gut by something that has my heart stop. A spidery-like claw is jutting from my insides and weirdly enough there is no blood. Yet there is pain. Lots and lots of pain! My roar is harsh and hurts my throat. But the claw is merely the beginning. The ground pushes up more and more claws protrude out, making like I'm in the palm of a massive hand.
"Holy shit..."
The claws crush around me, twisting my torso to the side and pointing me up towards what I guess is a sky.
[You will be a good little worm and embrace the power given to you.]
"Yes! I swear I'll be good!"
The claws tighten, my bones ache in pain, and the claw coming out of me twitches slowly down to etch its tip against my head.
[And you will no longer harm yourself.]
"I promise! I promise!"
[Good girl.]
The claw's tip beings to force itself into my skull.
[While you do say the needed things, the Entity believes you should still learn from your defiance. It will be some time before your body regenerates the blood you lost during the trial and allow you to fully wake up. So till then, the Entity will happily make sure you know just how things work here. Your first lesson, what happens when you bring the displeasure of refusal and failure to please the Entity.]
It inches painfully deeper into my brain. My howls are deafening yet have no echo in this place, the fog damping all sound.
[Yes. Wail all you like. Suffering adds such flavor to the soul. And the fear...Tasty, tasty, beautiful fear. Truly it is the spice of life. You worms all taste so much better when you are afraid.]
This is merely the beginning of a very long and agonizingly drawn-out torture. Since this is basically my spirit/mind in this Void, any harm done is all going to further fuck over my mental health and probably going to make it easier to break when under similar stress. All I know is I'm not coming out of this unscathed.
(UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME LATER)
With a loud gasp and violent bolt upright, I finally cast my eyes on something other than the claws of the Entity exploring new ways of doing awful things to me. My body is shaking. Ears ringing. And there's a searing burn coming from my chest. My senses are so dull that once I register that there's something on my shoulder I throw myself halfway across the camp in fear that the claws have come back and I hold myself in sheer fright. Of course that's not really the case. It was just David. Yet this does little to calm my panicking heart and rapid breathing.
"Whoa now. Take it easy, Luv. It's only me."
He takes a few steps towards me before stopping at the blocking arm of Jane.
"Oi, what's your deal?"
"Look at her. She needs a moment. Just give her a bit of space before you go over there."
He grumbles to himself but listens to the woman. Allowing me to regain some semblance of normality. My brain catches up to what is really around me and very slowly settles down from the adrenaline that comes from being fucking terrorized by the Entity for who knows how long. Speaking of which...
"H-How long?"
Did...Did my voice just crack? Geez, I'm messed up if I can't even control that basic function.
"How long what?"
Laurie comes near but keeps a fair distance from me.
"How long was I gone?"
This question has them looking at me funny. I don't like how they're looking at me.
"Gone?"
"Luv, you never left camp."
Granted, they have no clue what I meant by "gone". Still, telling me anything else like "we're not sure" or a number of trials that went by while I slept would be much better. Instead, this dumb answer feels like they're talking to me like a child and it pisses me off.
"Don't talk down to me and tell me how long I've been out!"
My head throbs, both in lingering pain and frustration.
"A while..."
Adam's input is made.
"At least ten or so trials past since you blacked out."
Okay, but what does that mean? A day? Two days? A week? Why haven't these numbnuts found a way to measure time?!
"Too long...Too god damn long..."
I move to stand but find my legs a bit wobbly. Claudette brings a medkit over.
"Try not to move around too fast or so much. You don't want to hurt yourself."
I huff a slight snarl.
"Don't waste that kit. Just teach me Self-Care so I can take care of myself."
Her face, among the others, is shocked.
"How do you know about...?"
"Your Perks?"
I cut her off merely to shut her up so I can explain. Otherwise, we'll be here playing 20 Questions till trial starts.
"I know your Perks. I know ALL of your Perks. It wouldn't let me leave without knowing everything. Forcing each and every bit of information you all failed to tell me so deep into my skull that I'm sure it erased what little childhood memories I had left to do so."
I point at her.
"Your three Perks are Botany Knowledge, Empathy, and Self-Care."
"I don't understand. We never told you..."
"Are you ignoring me or just stupid? It told me EVERYTHING. The Entity told me the things none of you ever bothered to. Like seeing Auras, Scratch Marks, Add-ons, Sabotaging Hooks, Cleansing Totems, and some weird-ass shit called the Bloodweb. Which, by the way, thank you all for being so nice in telling me. It really means a lot that you are all so nice and caring. Oh, wait, no you're not. You're all a bunch of bastards!"
My head pangs harder. A foreboding sense of dread tingles my spine.
"Easy now. Please calm down."
Dwight's voice seems almost distantly muffled in my ears.
"I know you're upset. But you don't need to get worked up over it."
This almost has me seeing red.
"Worked up? You haven't seen worked up. This isn't me upset. This is me after the Entity has had it's fun! Punishing me. Doing god awful things to me...Being killed by the monsters is a dream compared to the nightmare I suffered!"
Nea scoffs.
"Geez. Overly dramatic much?"
My eye twitches and the pain in my head is getting worse. I roar out in agonizing discomfort.
"Stop it! Stop pissing me off! I can't control the beast at Tier III!"
The mentioning of something like a tier gets attention. Though my throbbing head isn't helping me in trying to concentrate. Suddenly, mostly because the pain made my eyes shut, David surprises me by grabbing hold of my face and forcing me to lock eyes with him.
"Look at me. Ignore them, Luv. I got you. Block everythin' else that ain't me. Do that for me, Luv. I know you can."
His eyes. Dark brown and intense yet soft. Why can't I look away?
"That's my girl. Focus on this mug of mine and know it's gonna be okay."
It takes a moment before I regain the memory to blink. In this state, it's easy to get lost in those eyes of his. His smirk is also strangely reassuring.
"Heh. Trippy."
"What?"
"Did you know that your eyes change color?"
"Yeah. Not sure why or when it happens."
"They were kinda red-orange before and now dullin' to light brown."
"Normally they're ether light brown, hazel, light green, or some mix of those. Any other color is rare and just tends to happen."
He smiles.
"So...Feelin' better?"
"A little bit."
"Anythin' I can do to make that little bit bigger?"
I bite my tongue.
"Come on. You can tell me."
I start to blush.
"...Hug?"
He surprised yet I'm the one more shocked that he actually does it. His embrace has me feeling so weak. I tremble, wanting to give in and break down. To cry and let this pain out. But I don't. I won't let myself be so open. Not around them. Not even him.
"'ow about now?"
I just nod against him.
"Do you...I don't know...Wanna talk about stuff?"
[You may choose to share these Perks with the other worms or keep them to yourself and hone them to make yourself better. The choice is yours and yours alone.]
The Entity's words come back to me like a whisper on the wind. Part of me really wants to make them suffer as I have. But I don't want to be like them.
"Okay...But only because there's important stuff to tell you guys."
"Do you want me to stay by your side?"
"...Maybe."
He merely chuckles and musses up my hair playfully. While it is true, what the Entity said about him is something I've thought of when it comes to David's intentions, he sadly is the only one at camp I trust. That and he's not that bad of a guy to be around even if his flirting can get a bit tiresome.
With little coaxing, the others gather around the fire as I tell them what the Entity told me. I do my best to explain my three perks. Though it's the special ability that interests them the most. And can I blame them? Now they have confirmation that a team member can become a killer and attack them if things aren't going so well. It's a downright terrifying idea. One that I'm sure the Entity loves. Still, even though I am telling them these things, I refuse to share with them just how to use my perks for themselves. My faith in these people is nearly non-existent, not including David who's the one keeping me sane after all this crap. Plus, I'd rather understand these perks better myself before passing anything along to them. Frankly, the only ones they could use would be Snowball's Chance and Skulker's Instinct. Breaking Point would be useless to them as it serves no purpose other than to trigger my killer side which is exclusively a me thing. However, my reluctance to share my perks is not taken kindly.
"What kind of crap is this? You want us to share our perks but you won't share yours?!"
Feng beats Nea to the punch on being pissed off.
"I just found out about these things. Let me understand how they work."
"What's there to understand? You throw shit and you're stealthy. There. I did it for you."
Now Nea says her bit.
"If it's so simple then why can't you do it?"
Meg sticks up for me.
"Because fuck you, that's why."
"Cunt, would you shut up. Luv's not askin' for all our perks. Just one. And it ain't even yours."
David is right. I've only asked for one perk and it's Claudette's Self-Care. It unlocks the ability to heal yourself without a Med-Kit at 50% the normal Healing speed and increases the efficiency of Med-Kit self-heal by 10%, for Claudette herself this is 20%. I asked for this skill so that damage wouldn't bother me as much and trigger my killer side. But I guess assholes can't see the big picture what with their head being so far up their butts.
"Call me a cunt again, you Limey bastard! I fucking dare you!"
"And your lot wonders why the rest of the world hates ya."
I tug on David's ear and he whines.
"'ey, what was that for?"
"You don't need to keep throwing logs on her fire. Just ignore it and eventually the heat will die down."
He looks at me funny before draping his thick arm around my shoulders.
"Ah, Luv, 'ad we ever met outside of this place I don't think we'd go very far."
"Oh? Why's that?"
"Because you'd be tryin' to talk me out of fightin'. And me not bein' able to fight just ain't right."
I simply smirk.
"Fair enough. But...We'd still be cool otherwise, right?"
"A rockin' bird like you? Oh yeah. I'd be a right proper git to not be interested in keepin' you around."
"Heh. You're not such a bad bloke yourself, Scrappy-Doo."
"...I was goin' to say it's sexy when you use English, but you killed it by callin' me that cartoon dog."
"Yet the resemblance is uncanny."
"Hey!"
Oh right, Nea's still here and being annoying.
"Don't act like I'm not here."
"Nea, just stop it already."
Ace speaks up.
"The kid has a right to learn her skills before giving them away."
"Up yours, old man."
"Know what..."
Bill interjects.
"I seem to recall a time when you flat out told us to 'shove it' when we asked about your perks."
"Yeah...well...*scoff* Fine! Do whatever. I don't care anyway."
She storms away to be as far from the fire and me as possible without leaving the safety zone.
"Geez, she can be such a bummer for a kid."
Kate remarks as she tunes up her nice acoustic guitar. And that gets my attention.
"Um...Where did you get that from?"
She looks at the guitar.
"Oh, this? I bought it off the Entity."
I look at her funny.
"What?"
"Seems the Entity told up about the mechanics of trials but not the rewards for doing them."
Jake states with a tone that lets me know he's still ticked at me for getting him killed.
"What do you mean 'rewards'?"
Jeff clears his throat to get my attention.
"So the Entity told you about the Bloodweb, right? How that it uses Bloodpoints to get Add-ons and that you gain Bloodpoints during the Trials by performing certain actions."
Dear lord don't tell me it's another long as fuck exposition rant.
"Yeah?"
"Well, aside from Bloodpoints, there are two other forms of currency. Iridescent Shards and Auric Cells. Iridescent Shards can be used to bribe the Entity into gifting you a copy of someone else's perk but that's super expensive. Typically like 2,000 or 2,700 shards. Depends on the Entity's mood. Auric Cells are super rare and are a pain in the ass to collect, but they're worth it. With enough Auric Cells, the Entity will make things a lot more entertaining by letting us get new clothes and items that make living here just a bit more bearable. You get both these things in varying amounts as rewards for how well you did in Trials and you might not even know you have any if no one tells you about it, but you can check how much you have when you go into the Bloodweb."
I just stare at him and soak this in.
"And the cool part is, once you get these things, you can have them permanently. No need to re-get something if you've decided to change. Just think about it and pesto. New duds and stuff."
My brain is starting to fail at taking this information.
"You alright there, Luv?"
"Just...I can't seem to understand the logic of the Entity."
"Don't bother trying..."
Dwight chirps.
"We've been here for what feels like ages and we still have no clue when it comes to that thing."
"I just think it's a little weird. The Entity wants us to die so it can feed off of our souls. It wants us to be afraid of it and die. That's how it gets the best taste out of us. Yet it gives us a place to relax? Then grants us items of comfort? Granted, this is probably to make us last long as a source of food as the useless are sent to the Void. But still...If it can already pull people from different points in time and across other timelines, then why not amass a large city's worth of humans to compensate for any that break easily and not cater to the needs of said humans?"
I like to think this is a well thought out point. I mean, I don't understand beings of alternate realities nor do I claim to. But when I'm hungry, I don't go out to a restaurant and get only some water. Sure, drink enough water and eventually, you'll get full. Yet it's nothing compared to an all you can eat buffet. So why is it content with the few random stragglers that wander in? It doesn't make sense to me.
"It doesn't waste..."
Tapp mutters before hammering his fist into his palm.
"It doesn't waste us. It may feed on us slowly over time. But it will feed until there's nothing left. Like sucking the very last drops of juice out of the box."
"So then the longer we last and keep our hope up..."
Quentin needed to interject for some reason.
"The longer it can continue to feed on a smaller number of victims without too much effort or attention. Like a small-time crook getting away with petty crimes because of a larger more noticeable syndicate has the cops focus."
Could he not refer to his law enforcement career? We get it. You were a cop. That shit doesn't matter here, Tapp!
"You know, for a group of people that don't try to understand the Entity, you understand it more than you think when someone questions things."
Again, I like to think I make good points. And their expressions only further this thought.
"We can increase insights by exposing ourselves to lots of different ideas that might help us form new connections."
All eyes look at Nea who randomly spouted that rather insightful quote.
"What? I know shit too. Douche turds think I can't be smart or something?"
I would crack some remark if I gave a shit. Frankly, I'm sick of letting that bitch piss me off so easily. I should take the advice David and even myself gave earlier, ignore her. Ignore everything that ticks me off. I can't become a killer if I don't let things get to me.
"So..."
Claudette moves over to me.
"I know you told us how your perk works. But do you know if it's only applicable in trials?"
I merely tilt my head in confusion.
"Beg your pardon?"
"She means can you go nuts in camp."
Jake spits and I just shrug.
"No clue. As chatty as the Entity was, it didn't tell me that."
"Figures as much."
"Still, you can never be too safe. Best not get on my bad side."
Probably not the best thing to remotely joke about. Though David tries to play this tension off by yanking me into a headlock and nuggying me till I'm surly growling.
"Awww...Such a big bad killer you are. So threatenin' with that cute face."
"*snarls* Will you quit fucking with my hair?!"
"Oh? And what'cha gonna do about it, Luv?"
I bite his forearm yet he merely laughs. This leads into some mildly aggressive horseplay on both our parts. Despite the oddity that this interaction is it does serve to show that while I am now a threat, that it doesn't mean I'm not human. I'm still me. A nutty weirdo goon that got stuck here just like they did. They can die and so can I. We are all prey. My power in the grand scheme of things changes nothing.
Still, something feels uneasy. While things return to normal and the occasional chat, I get this odd sense of being watched. Well, a different one from the feeling of the eyes of the other survivors. No, this one feeling is off. Predatory. A feeling I once felt long before I had my trial. There's a monster in the woods. The question remains of who it is and why is it skulking around? Is it Legion? Did he come to see me squirm? Or is this someone else? Someone I haven't met yet? I have so many questions!
[Elsewhere: Survivor Campsite Woods]
He watched from his spot as he had done so for quite some time since that fateful meeting. He wasn't going to miss any chance to prove the others wrong. To show that he was worthy. And he was going to use the new meat to do so. His patience paid off this time, as the human was once more up and about after many hunting cycles of just lying still like a corpse. Luck was even further on his side as he intently listened in on their ramblings and learned that the others weren't that far off in their theories on her strange power. This human, if provoked enough, will become a killer just like him. The thought of seeing such a sight made him excited. Such a moment needed to be preserved for posterity. With some careful hand placement, he makes a bold move and readies the shot that will mark his road to respect.
*CLICK*
The small camera's flash was obscured but there was nothing to stop the shutter sound. A few of the humans picked up on it and dismissed it for normal odd noise. Though the new meat is less swayed to ignore the sound. Her eyes search for any hint of something different lurking in the foggy shadows.
lub-dub...lub-dub...lub-dub...lub-dub...
He could hear his heartbeat. Strange, as he didn't think he had a heart to begin with. One of the other humans pulls her attention from investigating further and a sudden thrill has him. He's never been caught before yet his stealth nearly failed him here. This was exciting. Turning the camera around, he looked at the image capture and smirked to himself. Yes...Things were going to be fun for Ghost Face.

title: im bored and its currently 1.30 am
i saw some other comments on how much wider the lesbian representation is in cartoons for children compared to the gay one so for the sake of science and of being completely bored i actually tried to do a compendium of all the canon lesbians/bi women in western kids animation.
- Bubbline obviously is the first one that comes to your mind. Hinted at and CENSURED for YEARS, they finally had the kiss scene in the serie finale. If we really want to go wide, we can also count Achillea and Amazonia, the two lesbian ghost that appeared in morituri te salutamus (one of my persona favourite episodes) along with two gay ghost couples.
- Korrasami, the second big w/w couple you think of when thinking about lgbt characters in cartoons. The hold hands for three seconds at the very end of Legend of Korra. Kya and Kiyoshi, the other two wlw in the serie, are confirmed only in the comics.
- Ezor and Zethrid from Voltron, since this was obviously pronted by Voltron because its 1 am and i am tired and petty. They are evil, they die, they are confirmed as lesbians after their death and fit the “psycho lesbian” trope.
- EJ and Sue in Clarence, Jeff’s mothers.
- Katherine Kane in Batman: Bad Blood. Not sure this can count as kid animation tbh but let’s just put this here for the scene where Kate flirts with Renee Montoya
- Storks wich i have absolutely no idea what it is but apparently “near the end of the film, the storks deliver babies to straight, lesbian and gay couples, and single parents.”
- Scandal Savage and Knockout in Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay. Still I’m not sure this can be considered a kid cartoon but just because let’s leave them here (Scandal Savage is such a hot butch omg)
- Maggie Sawyer and Toby Raynes in Batman TAS who are seen near each others at the hospital and at a funeral. Never explicitly stated as lesbian in the serie.
- Marie Logan in Young Justice, Beast Boy’s dead mother. Also I’m pretty sure her death, aka the proof she’s either a lesbian or a bi woman, is in the comics and not even the animated serie.
- Plum in Bravest Warriors who is bi and kisses a girl only in the comics.
- Simone and Julie in Dofus. I haven’t seen it so I will refrain from comment.
- Luna Loud in The Loud House who is bi.
- Zarya and Kitty in Mysticons. Hinted and censored throught the serie.
- Then let’s go to Steven Universe wich representation is bad honestly bad oh so bad but let’s list them because: Pearl, a lesbian with an obsession for her former slavemaster, Rose Quartz, a manipulative bi woman who is actually a space fascist and that takes advantage of her personal servant who is in love with her, Lapis Peridot and Jasper I Guess??? It’s never actually confirmed that they are in love so much as Jasper and Lapis has been confirmed outside the serie by Rebecca that they are a metaphor for abusive relationships and Lapis/Peridot is a bad non canon fanfic of that one screenwriter whos name i forgot and Peridot and Lapis live together and Lapis is being creepy again and then she leaves for the moon. Then there’s Ruby and Sapphire wich is actually the only genuine good lgbt representation in steven universe they married and kissed on screen i am honestly mad such an iconic moment in kids animation is because of Steven Universe.
So at the end we have
4 characters who gets confirmed as couples only at the very end of their respective series and two of wich has been censured for years.
3 dead lesbians, two of wich were evil and non of which were confirmed in canon/in the serie
Another censored lesbian couple
4 characters from two animated movies that i can hardly call for children (they arent.)
A couple that is seen standing next to each others.
3 who are confirmed as wlw in the comics.
2 ghosts who appear in one episode.
And Steven Universe.
And people call this wide lesbian representation ..ok.
And just for the sake of science now let’s write all the gay characters appeared in kids animation.
Mitch from Paranorman: gets confirmed as gay on the last minute of movie so kinda shitty but it still counts. Gobber from HTTYD2: hinted since he said he never married because of “reasons”. Storks for the aforementioned reasons. Lexington in Gargoyles, censured gay. Mr Simmons in Hey Arnold, censured gay. Mark Jones from Braceface. Dean Toadblatt and Squidhat in the Grim Adventure of Bill and Mandy. Since i mentioned the two lesbian ghosts from adventure time there are other two couple of gay ghosts in the same episode morituri te salutamus. Blubs and Durland in Gravity Falls finale. Kevin in Clarence. Tom and Jacques in Total Drama. That shithole that is Shiro and Adam in Voltron. Howard and Harold McBride who are a married couple and fathers of the best friend of the protagonist. Ghost two dads in Summer Camp Island. Paul and Bayani in 16 hudson wich is actually a preschool show so how talking about kids, kudos. Bow’s two dads in She-Ra its not out yet but we know they are canon so.

The lioness goddesses of war and healing, who could only be appeased with the “feasts of drunkenness"
Some time ago, before S4 aired, I posted about the Prince’s case from TGG, with an addition/revision three months later - Connie Kenny & Raoul . In the course of the last two years, and with the new informations given in S4, some of my former ideas and theories have changed, some expanded. Which can be expected with this story full of surprises. :)
My interpretaation of the character mirrors in the Prince’s case though, is today the same as in the addition from Dec 2016:
Connie Prince/Mycroft/brain
Kenny Prince/Sherlock/body
Raoul de Santos/Jim/sex
Sekhmet the cat/John/love
Back then I did only a very quick research of Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess, because my main focus was on the human actors. Still, the combination of warrior and healer in Sekhmet’s attributes, combined with a strong connection to the sun, convinced me that this cat represents John. John is a soldier and a doctor, he hasn’t only a strong connection to the sun (conductor of light) but also to the lion … panthera leo ... family: felidae … cats.
“Sekhmet. Named after the Egyptian goddess.” (Kenny Prince, TGG)
Playing around with the five cases of TGG lately (Bruce-Partington), Sekhmet the cat came into focus once more and I researched that Egyptian goddess a bit more deeply … and found a lot of interesting and astonishing things I never noticed before.
Anyone who is interested in Egyptian goddesses in connection with Sherlock BBC, some musings on cats & lions and a little bit on dogs as well ... there’s more under the cut ….
Sekhmet
In ancient Egypt Sekhmet was worshipped as a warrior goddess as well as a goddess of healing. She was depicted in art as a lioness, the fiercest hunter known to the Egyptians or as a woman with the head of a lioness, who was dressed in red, the colour of blood. Sekhmet was also a solar deity, sometimes called the daughter of Ra and bears the Uraeus (serpent), and the solar disk on her head. She is closely associated with the goddesses Hathor and Bastet and the Eye of Ra.
Meaning of the name Sekhmet: "the one who is powerful or mighty". Sekhmet was also called "One before whom evil trembles", "Mistress of Dread", "Lady of Slaughter" and "She who mauls". It was said that her breath formed the desert. She was seen as the protector of the pharaohs and led them in warfare.
The festivals of intoxication
To pacify Sekhmet, festivals were celebrated … the Egyptians danced and played music to soothe the wildness of the goddess and drank great quantities of wine ritually, to imitate the extreme drunkenness that stopped the wrath of the goddess, when she almost destroyed humanity.
Hathor
She was a major goddess who played a wide variety of roles and was one of several goddesses who acted as the Eye of Ra, Ra's feminine counterpart, and in this form she had a vengeful aspect that protected him from his enemies.
Hathor was often depicted as a cow, symbolizing her maternal and celestial aspects, although her most common form was a woman wearing a headdress of cow horns and a sun disk. She could also be represented as a lioness or a cobra. Titles given to her were: ‘Mistress of the Stars/Sky’, ‘Mistress of Love’, ‘Lady of the Offering/Contentment’.
Myths connecting Sekhmet and Hathor
In a myth about the end of Ra's rule on the earth, Ra sends Hathor as Sekhmet to destroy mortals who conspired against him. Sekhmet's blood-lust was not quelled at the end of battle and led to her destroying almost all of humanity, so Ra poured out beer, dyed red, so that it resembled blood. Mistaking the beer for blood, she became so drunk that she gave up the slaughter and returned peacefully to Ra.
In the ‘Book of the Heavenly Cow’. Ra sends Hathor as the Eye of Ra to punish humans for plotting rebellion against his rule. She becomes the lioness goddess Sekhmet and massacres the rebellious humans, but Ra decides to prevent her from killing all humanity. He orders that beer be dyed red and poured out over the land. The Eye goddess drinks the beer, mistaking it for blood, and in her inebriated state reverts to being the benign and beautiful Hathor.
The two aspects of the Eye goddess ... violent and dangerous versus beautiful and joyful ... reflected the Egyptian belief that women encompassed both extreme passions of fury and love.
Bastet
Originally she was also worshipped as a lioness goddess, just as Sekhmet. Along with the other lioness goddesses, Bastet would occasionally be depicted as the embodiment of the Eye of Ra and her festival was celebrated with great amouts of wine. Her name became associated with the lavish jars in which Egyptians stored their ointment used as perfume. Bastet thus gradually became regarded as the goddess of perfumes, earning the title of ‘perfumed protector’. Greeks occupying ancient Egypt toward the end of its civilization changed her into a goddess of the moon.
Eventually Bastet and Sekhmet were characterized as two aspects of the same goddess, with Sekhmet representing the dangerous side of her personality and Bastet, who was increasingly depicted as a cat, representing her benign side.
The Eye of Ra
The Eye of Ra is a feminine counterpart to the sun god Ra and a violent force that subdues his enemies. It is an extension of Ra's power, equated with the disk of the sun, but it is also an independent entity, which can be personified by goddesses like Hathor, Sekhmet, Bastet and others. The Eye goddess acts as mother, sibling, consort, and daughter of the sun god. She is his partner in the creative cycle in which he begets the renewed form of himself that is born at dawn.
The Egyptians often referred to the sun and the moon as the "eye"s of particular gods. At times they called the solar eye the "Eye of Ra" and the lunar eye the "Eye of Horus". The related hieroglyphs show the eye iconographically mirrored … from the perspective of the viewer it’s the left eye, from the viewpoint of the god, it’s the right one.

Sekhmet (TGG and a pic of the Gayer-Anderson Cat, which is believed to be a representation of Bastet (X)
Could it be that someone involved with Sherlock BBC is a big fan of Ancient Egypt? Or is all this just coincidence? Anyway, Sekhmet, Hathor, Bastet and the Eye of Ra …. all of them are closely connected to one another.
one transforms into the other and back again
one develops from the other
they represent different aspects of the same thing
Regarding Sherlock BBC, this duality feels rather familiar. Especially where the ‘canines’ of the story are concerned. As @sagestreet points out in the Follow the Dog metas, all dogs are connected to sex and the fear of sex is represented by the monstrous hound. Two variations of canines serve to express different attitudes towards sexuality.
At the same time there are also two human characters (male and female) who act as main mirrors for sexuality … Jim Moriarty, who conveniently calls himself Mr. Sex and Irene Adler, the cunning dominatrix. And in one scene from THOB two dogs can be seen in a shop, sitting side by side behind glass.
Sexuality is a very important aspect in life and in this story as well. Dogs and traces of dogs are interwined with it from the first to the last episode. RedBeard, either Irish Setter or someone else, turns out to be a key element in Sherlock’s past.
What about love?
There’s another important aspect in life and in this story, besides sexuality. This aspect is love. How farfetched is it to assume that love might be portrayed in a similar way as sex? There exist already two human characters (male and female) who are widely considered to be main mirrors for love … John Watson and Molly Hooper. But is there also an animal who could represent love, like the dogs represent sex? An animal that appears, similar to the canines, in two different variations?
Two cats in one pic, sitting in a shop behind glass … very similar to the two dogs in Speedy’s window. There are also two variations of felines who play a role in the story … cats and lions. A tame pet version and the big, wild and dangerous relative of the same species. And while John Watson is connected to lion and sun, Molly Hooper owns Toby the cat.
Yes. I am officially going to be a mad old cat woman. I'm 31 and I'm single and I've bought a cat. But he's great. He's called Toby. (Molly’s blog)
Felines …. cats and lions
A cat can scratch and bite you. It hurts, yes, but it wont kill you. A lion though, that one surely is able to ‘break every bone in your body, while naming it’ and can easily shred your heart into tiny pieces. Lions also often suffocate their prey by covering the muzzle. It’s called ‘the kiss of death’.
Molly & Irene - female mirrors for love & sex
There exists a striking similarity between Molly Hooper (love) and Irene Adler (sex). At Christmas in ASIB, both women send a gift for Sherlock (Mouth like a crimson wound). On both ocassions the wrapping paper is colour-coordinated with the lipstick. ‘The shade of red echoes her lipstick’ explains Sherlock in Molly’s case while the picture of Irene’s gift comes with a flashback to the beginning of the episode when she decides that a ‘shade of blood’ would be the perfect colour for her lips. Sherlock opens only one of the two presents that day … that of Irene (sex). I wrote about it in Explosive, it’s more me . The content of Molly’s present (love), is never revealed.
John & Jim - male mirrors for love & sex
Choices and consequences … that’s a main theme which runs through the whole story and Sherlock seems to be torn between two aspects: John or James, James or John, saint or sinner … friend or lover … the more is less. This topic is adressed in detail in Solutions or Choices and The Big Question - The menaing of Reichenbach. Therefore I leave it here. The picture below shows the strong connection between John (love) and Jim (sex) very clearly.
Sex and love
Sex - is action. It can be the breathtaking fulfillment of love. It can be given without love, it can be supressed, it can be sold, bought or taken by force. Sexuality can be controlled and locked away somewhere deep down in the hidden places of the soul.
Love - is quite a different matter. Love can’t be supressed, sold or bought, or taken by force. Love can’t be given if it’s not there in the first place. Love can’t be controlled. Love is what it is. If love is there, it’s there. If not, then not. Love isn’t action. It is emotion.
Therfore love is a much more dangerous aspect to deal with than sex … if one tries to avoid it because one is afraid of it.
How to deal with too much unwanted emotion?
If Jim represents sex in this story, Sherlock’s counter measure against Mr. Sex seems to be a padded cell deep down in his mind palace. Here he keeps the unwanted urges fixed in a straight jacket and chained to the wall with an iron leash …. like a monstrous hound from hell (Shoes for the hound). A measure probably based on the pinciple: ‘don’t want it, don’t act on it’
LESTRADE: ... but these (murders) do appear to be suicides. We know the difference. The, um, the poison was clearly self-administered. REPORTER 3: Yes, but if they are murders, how do people keep themselves safe? LESTRADE: Well, don’t commit suicide.
Counter measures against love
If John represent love, how does Sherlock deal with love? This indomitable, uncontainable emotion. How does he react to a feeling he fears and desires at the same time? Comparing love to a powerful and deadly animal like a lion(ess) … what measures does Sherlock take to deal with that lion(ess)? How does one keep a dangerous lion(ess), if one can’t control that creature, that emotion?
If one can’t chain it … maybe one can change it?
It is known that Sherlock changes stories he doesn’t like. Could he apply a similar treatment to an emotion he fears? Transforms Sherlock LOVE, the mighty lion(ess), into a harmless cat, so he can keep it without danger. And the only remnant which indicates the actual origin of that ‘cat’ is the name Sherlock chooses for her in the play he creates on his mind stage ….. Sekhmet, the lioness goddess of war and healing.
The cat breed chosen to play Sekhmet is a Sphynx Cat. Maybe that's not just another lovely nod to Ancient Egypt. It could also confirm Sherlock’s strategy to deal with his fear of an emotion like love ... by diminishing the source of that fear. Because of all cat breeds on this planet, Sphynx Cats are among the most vulnerable and helpless ones.
Without a fur, their body isn’t protected against sunburn, hot/cold/wet weather, bites/scratches from other animals. They need to be bathed regularly to remove body-oils which would normally be absorbed by the fur. Without the constant care of their humans, those cats would not be able to survive outdoors for long. Maybe as a reaction to this helplessness, these cats have developed a very close and more dog-like relationship with humans.
Diminishing the source of a fear in order to bypass it, to better cope with it … this strategy is also adressed in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, when Professor Lupin introduces his pupils to a boggart and teaches them how to deal with that creature:
"It's a shape-shifter. It can take the shape of whatever it thinks will frighten us most. Boggarts like dark, enclosed spaces,Nobody knows what a boggart looks like when he is alone, but when I let him out, he will immediately become whatever each of us most fears.”
“The charm that repels a boggart is simple, yet it requires force of mind. You see, the thing that really finishes a boggart is laughter. What you need to do is force it to assume a shape that you find amusing …. force it to look comical.” (X)
Transforming a fear into something that is ridiculous or something that is profoundly helpless, achieves quite the same result. The fear might not go away but it diminishes.
The conclusion of the Prince’s case
It isn’t Kenny, it is Connie who owns Sekhmet the cat and it is also Connie who employs Raoul de Santos. An appropiate choice if Connie indeed represents the brain. Both, the chemistry of love and of sex, have their origins in the brain after all.
The scenario performed in this little play on Sherlock’s mind stage, tells the story of a man (Kenny/Sherlock), of a body, who is clearly ruled and dominated by his brain (Connie/Mycroft). And that body isn’t happy at all under the reign of this government. It’s a brain that ‘works’, that ‘shows off’, a brain that knows exactly ‘what goes best with what’. While the body, the transport, gets constantly bullied, ridiculed and forced into a role it doesn’t want. But apparently there are also parts of the same brain that contemplate thoughts of love (Sekhmet/John) and sex (Raoul de Santos/Jim).
Mirrored in the shiny surface of the table: John & Sekhmet (love & love on different levels) while Raoul (sex) is silently lurking in the background.
By the end of this scenario Sherlock seems to come to the conclusion that sex would be the death of brain. Better and more reasonable to lock sex up somewhere deep down inside himself and stay safely back with the harmless cat. Definitely leave the lion in the bag. Cat/love/John without sex/Raoul/Jim would still be love …. philia/agape …. not eros.
The outcome of the Prince’s experiment seems to be Sherlock’s basis for the following experiments. At any rate, by the end of The Reichenbach Fall, he comes to a very similar conclusion. Here too Sherlock chooses brain/work over love and sex. This time to save friendship (philia) and he sends his body into hiatus/undercover … into a metaphorical coffin.
Then he puts on a facade to hide his true self behind it. And Sherlock keeps the cat/lion(ess) because, after all, he (Sherlock/Mary) is a big cat lover.
Thanks for reading this far. I leave you to your own deductions. Thanks @callie-ariane for the scripts. :)

I finally started watching Trollhunters a little over a week ago, and I finally finished it today and HOO BOY I have so many things to say so spoilers below the cut
(but the tl;dr spoiler-free version of it is basically: I absolutely loved the show way more than I thought I would. 10/10 would recommend)
The characters are so good??? Like I enjoyed absolutely every single one on some level, even if it’s just in a “love to hate” kind of way like with Gunmar. Just all the characters mesh together and bounce of each other in such fun ways that I always loved seeing when different ones had to work together, like the times when Toby and Claire had to work together without Jim or when Steve and Eli worked together to figure out what Jim and the others were up to.
I also absolutely loved all the interactions in Part 1 between Jim and Strickler when they were still on opposite sides and when they both knew it. The episode where Strickler is at Jim’s house for dinner with Barbara and they start verbally and then physically sparring with each other whenever she leaves the room - that episode is easily one of my favorites just for those scenes. It was SO much fun to watch.
Also just speaking of Jim and Barbara??? That sweet and loving and supportive mother-son relationship they have?? I love it so so so much. AND also the transition from seeing Strickler as Jim’s father figure to Blinky being a real father to him? That line that Blinky says about him seeing a son when he looks at Jim? I’m still emotionally wrecked over that and might cry just thinking about it.
Aaaand speaking of which, I actually already knew that Jim was going to turn into a troll at some point from seeing spoiler pictures floating around tumblr, but I didn’t know how or when that would happen, so that aspect was still surprising for me. And I do think the writer(s) handled it in a really well done and interesting way. Like the scene I mentioned before with Blinky, but I loved everyone’s way of trying to support Jim through it and let him know they love him. And I’m very intrigued by seemingly-wise mentor-like characters being technically right but also being super sketchy and manipulative about it (looking at you, Dumbledore). So I’m okay with Merlin’s character not actually being the embodiment of goodness to Morgana’s embodiment of evil (which she wasn’t either).
Also Draal :( His character had so much growth, and I love how he and Jim became friends. And I also love Claire and Toby of course. I like that Toby was given lots of opportunities to be more than just the comic relief sidekick. I also like that Claire wasn’t just a love interest, nor was she just a generic “strong female character” either. She had her own personality and likes and interests and flaws. And I enjoyed the growth of her and Jim’s friendship-turned-romantic-relationship.
And, of course, AAARRRGGHH!!! (yes I did look up how to spell it) is just all-around awesome.
It’s a real testament to how much I enjoyed all the characters that I can’t immediately narrow down which one is my favorite. I might be able to figure out who’s my favorite later, but it’s going to take some thinking since there are so many I love for different reasons.
And idk if it’s weird to say or point out, but I loved the pacing of the show. I feel like it had the perfect balance of intense, main-plot-heavy episodes with scenes and episodes for side-stories that are still relevant and help develop the characters. I don’t think there was a single episode where I felt like time was being wasted.
I think...that’s all I have to say for now. Everything’s a little bit of a blur since I watched all the episodes within a span of like 10 days, so I’m sure there’s more I could gush about, but I don’t remember every tiny little detail. So this’ll have to do for now. Might make another post or something about my favorite episodes or something, idk. But definitely going to reblogging a lot of Trollhunters stuff now lol
I’ll just end it by saying, I loved this show so much that it’s actually inspired me to write more. Sometimes it’s bad writing that inspires me to write just to help myself work through why it was so awful to me (*coughvoltroncough*), but sometimes, it’s well-written stories that inspire me far more, because there’s something so satisfying about seeing a story done well. And Trollhunters is definitely an example of the latter.

Storyboard portfolio - what should I put in my story portfolio?
I've recently gotten this question a lot and thought I might take some time to go over what you might put into a story portfolio.
Storyboarding is not a job that a lot of people talk about, so the requirements of what goes into a portfolio are a bit more obscure. I also spent some time talking to my supervisor, who worked on the Incredibles, to give you guys some of his insights as well.
Always, before giving you guys any information, I always like to put a disclaimer that my input is only an opinion. Please don't feel bad if you disagree with anything I say, I'm just trying to share knowledge from my experience. Even though I'm working in animation, I think we are all students when it comes to art and we can always keep learning. So don't hesitate to get as much input as possible when it comes to your work and your portfolio and take what you can learn from everyone :)
So lets get started. What kind of drawings should you put into your portfolio? Even though storyboarding traditionally is not about pretty drawings, storyartists nowadays should show strong drawing skills. As a storyboard artist you don't really get to render your work. Instead you mainly draw with lines. You often have to work fast and your drawings don't have to be clean, but they have to communicate clearly. That is the most important thing! Therefore any drawings that can showcase the above skills would be great.
Some examples would be full body cafe sketches or lifedrawings that showcase your drawing skills. You could put a page of hands and a page of feet to emphasise that you know how to draw both. Any animal drawings that you might have could add to your portfolio. Especially if you know that the studio you’re applying to has a project coming up that is using animals. It would be great if your drawings could show weight, movement and communicate some story or emotion. A child playing in a water fountain; a mother carrying a million bags on her way home, while she is on the phone with the babysitter; two business men out for coffee, one is a confident man that has been at the job for 20 years, the other an upstart waiting to impress. The possibilities of what you might see are endless :)
But besides your drawing skills you will also want to show your storytelling skills.
For a storyboard artists there are often 2 paths, feature storyboarding and TV storyboarding. I know most people want to get into feature animation, but it's always great to mention not to discount TV animation as well. For example in feature animation, weather or not you are an animator or a storyboard artist you will potentially have to redo your work again.....and again......and again.....and again. You're not worse or better because you can or cannot do this, it's just a reality that this is not for everyone. One of my coworkers had to redo a storyboard sequence in a feature film about 20 times. The sequence kept changing again and again....and again. Now he LOVES his job, but by the end, he just couldn't look at it anymore. It's good to note that this doesn't happen all the time, but you have to be ok with throwing out your work, and starting over again. In TV animation you don't have this issue as much. When you do a TV-storyboard the deadlines are often times very tight. This means that you get to do the storyboard once and maybe if there is time, one set of revisions. The great thing about TV storyboarding is that you get to do a lot of work in a short amount of time. This practice and repetition really lets you experiment and lets you make mistakes. You get to learn a lot in a short amount of time. Of course TV Storyboarding also has positives and negatives as well. For example you might not get to delve as deeply into characters emotions in TV Storyboarding. Sometimes you can't do the kind of camera work that features might be able to do, or you might be limited to the amount of shots your allowed to have in your storyboard.
I just wanted to mention this, because I don't think you should ever feel the need to justify yourself if you wanted to work in either TV or in Feature animation. Both are different and both have things that are great about them. :)
It's also good to note that you can learn so much about storyboarding in TV animation, so if you don't get into feature storyboarding right away don't worry! You'll learn a lot in every job you do and it will help you in the next job ^^. So let's go over what recruiters would look for in a Feature storyboard. Again, the more input you can get on this the better :).
Firstly about Presentation. One thing to consider is the actual screen dimension. Feature Films use a ratio of 2.35 : 1 (also known as Anamorphic Wide-screen). If you’re thinking of practicing a storyboard for a feature film it could be good to use this ratio, to show that you’re able to create an appealing composition for a wide screen film. For television the ratio is usually 4:3. I haven’t been able to find any templates online, but if I do I’ll update this post and will post a link here. Another thing to consider for presentation is how to format your page. There are 2 ways that you can present your storyboard. One is "a single sheet with 3 panels next to each other", the other is to create "one image per page".
For FEATURE STORYBOARDS, it is better to create a PDF that has one image per page. As the recruiter or the head of story will flip through the images, they will truly be able to feel the story and the emotions that your trying to tell, because each image flips to another image just like animation. Toby Shelton's blog has lots of examples of this. If you don't have time to search through his blog, this is a great example: https://tobyshelton.blogspot.ca/2012/02/pig-who-cried-werewolf-2010.html
As you can see you can really feel the movement of the characters and their emotions. That is your main job as a feature board artist.....to convey emotion. Of course you need to know about composition and about shot choices and how to cut between shots, but all those things should be natural once your storyboarding (if they're not yet, don't worry, that will come :)). What a feature storyboard should really show is character and emotion. What is a character feeling, why are they feeling this way, how does that effect the situation, how does it effect the other characters? Disney in particular has said that they're looking for character moments from their storyboard applicants. You don't need to do something big, or you don't even need to do a full story. It's ok just to choose a moment in a characters life and to truly make us feel what the character is going through. You do want to have a beginning and an end to the sequence that you're doing, but it doesn't have to be something epic.
If however you're creativity leans more towards doing action, that is great too. But even in action, your storyboard should be character based. My supervisor, who boarded on "The Incredibles" said that when he looks at an action storyboard he can tell right away if he would or would not hire that person. If the action is just about action, he would not be interested to hire the person. But if the action is motivated and routed in true character moments and motivation, then he would be interested.
Lastly, most Feature storyboards are done in Photoshop, or proprietary software that studios provide.
Now for TV STORYBOARDING. If you can get your hands on Storyboard Pro, that would be very helpful. This is what TV productions currently use to create their storyboards. Also within Storyboard pro, there is a setup which will automatically organize your boards in 3 panels per page. This is how you want to present a TV- Storyboard. The Storyboard pro setup also has action notes and dialogue boxes that you can fill out. Presenting your board this way, will show the studio that you can be put directly into production.
Another difference between Feature storyboarding and TV storyboarding is in the amount of drawings you might do to convey an action. In Feature storyboarding you might flush out an action to show what kind of acting the characters are doing and you might do some really subtle animation/acting to show how slowly emotions are unfurling and what the characters are feeling. All of these drawings are made so that once the editor creates an animatic (a storyboard that is timed and has dialogue and sometimes music), that you can really feel the pacing and emotions that are happening. A TV storyboard will still have a lot of drawings, but often less acting then a feature board might have. Instead they will communicate movement with red arrows. For example, they will use red arrows to indicate the direction a character might walk, or if a character will exit a screen.
I did a quick search and found this storyboard test that someone did for Star and the Forces of Evil. You'll be able to see how the storyboard artist used arrows and how the dialogue is displayed. (Sorry they took these boards down) https://www.scribd.com/document/283152280/Star-vs-the-Forces-of-Evil-Storyboard-Test I did find this link which is a pilot episode for Monsters Abroad which was not picked up. The whole thing is in storyboard format. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGuJL0KUDQM A TV Storyboard artist also has to consider if he is storyboarding for a 2D show or a 3D show. In a 2D show there might be a limit to the amount of backgrounds that they can have in the entire show. So you might choose to reuse some angles. For example you could have a far away shot, and then later in the episode cut to a closer version of the same angle. A 3D show might not have to worry about the amount of backgrounds they can use as much.
Both 3D TV animation and 2D TV animation have to be conscious of how many characters you have in a shot. They call this "character count". So you might be told that you can only have twenty 10 character shots in your storyboard. (I'm just using random numbers here)
Also when you are applying to a studio -> Always know who you are applying to and cater your portfolio to each individual studio. For example, Sony does not have the same sense of humor as Disney, nor does Bluesky. Also know if you're applying to a studio that has a 3D shows or 2D show. If you have time try to cater what you do to the place that you're applying to.
My supervisor told me that "You only need one great board to get a job, you don't need more." He personally makes the interns at our studio do one of two assignments. They're called 1) The chase 2) The waiting room
ad1) The chase can be anything. You get to create the scenario and the characters involved. Is it about a husband that is chasing after his wife who got on the bus angry, trying to apologize for their fight this morning. Whatever you do, this assignment is not only about the chase. That is only a small part of the assignment. Probably the smallest. What the assignment is really about, is character. How are the characters interacting, what are the characters feeling, what are they going through. You want the choices of the characters to be believable and routed in their personalities. Also every storyboard should be about evoking an emotion. What emotion am I trying to make the audience feel, what emotion am I communicating.
ad2) The waiting room My supervisor mentioned that he does not really love this assignment. But let me explain the scenario. This story is about two or more people in a room. You get to choose the characters and what they are doing. Because you are limited to one room, this assignment shows your creativity in staging and in storytelling. A good film example of this assignment is the 1957 version of 12 Angry Men My supervisor did say however, that the only successful waiting room assignments that he's seen went way above the waiting room creatively. Unfortunately he did not elaborate so I'm a bit in the dark for this as well lol.
A few more notes that my supervisor gave were: - good comedy always sells. - Even though boarding is not about drawing, pretty drawings impress. As does good compositions. People will stop to look at pretty pictures.
I also asked him if you might be able to use an existing scripts to help you if you don't have a story. He said, yes you can totally do that. He recommended that, if this board is meant to go into your portfolio, rather then just to be a study piece that you should stay away from animated film. More then likely if you re-board an animated film, your work will simply not be as good as the version of the film. But if you take something like the life action GI - Joe, if you think you can do that better, then go for it. You might also be able to use the script as a launching point to get yourself an idea. These are two websites where you can find scripts. http://www.imsdb.com/ http://www.script-o-rama.com/snazzy/table.html
Also note that, if you are a student and your school lets you make a film, your film doesn't have to be your portfolio. Sometimes you're trying to accomplish so much with your film that it ends up not being the best piece to represent yourself. You might have a small personal project that you've done on your own time that feels really authentic that represents your skills better.
Ok that's all the information I could think of for now.
Please let me know if you guys have any more questions. There is so much to go over with storyboarding, it's hard to know where to begin and where to end :) Wishing you guys all the best Bianca

I see your posts for Boruto and I love them because I think they are so accurate. I am actively in the Naruto fan base, with Boruto though I am really starting to hate it. Your posts make it seem tolerable!
thanks so much, darling. honestly i’m not exactly in the fandom anymore myself with naruto. something i don’t tell people is that i stopped watching when tobi was introduced so you can imagine how far back that was. there were so many characters being introduced that i lost track of what the hell was going on, i remember the exact episode i said fuck it on too. i played ninja storm naruto so i felt like i had a good handle on the storyline but i didn’t actively come back until the ending. which was utter trash. i’m not an advocate of boruto whatsoever, i expose it for what it is; also trash. it’s rehashed and copy/pasted bullshit, nothing original. i make fun of it because there are people who probably don’t understand how they are supposed to feel about it, so i ad-lib the series to make it something where they can at least laugh at it.the sasusaku and naruhina fandoms are toxic. naruhina fans don’t pay attention to actual material and sasusaku makes up whatever the hell they want to. the ONLY fandoms apart of naruto that actually have main positivity is sasukarin, narusasu and narusaku. if you go into those tags you won’t feel the animosity, i swear to you those tags are in their own worlds and it feels NATURAL. it doesn’t feel forced or toxic. if you wanna feel good about anything in naruto–search those tags and bask in the positivity.
want my advice though? there are other animes that are nowhere near as toxic/underdeveloped that i’ve recently become apart of. there aren’t any ship wars, there aren’t characters we have to say “pro them and anti them” it’s all..full of love.
hunter x hunter – naruto derived from hunter x hunter and if you want a series where they handle everything right, this is one to hop on the train for. this is one damn good series where the antagonists you actually feel empathy towards. not like apologetic but hunter x hunter exposes the fact that antagonists are not evil people, with evil morals. like it makes you sorta wanna be on their side, basically it makes it hard to dislike them. which is GOOD writing. their motives aren’t “save/destroy the world” either, the author actually made their motives and interests relatable/personal. which is something a LOT of authors don’t do well. he doesn’t alienate his audience. also a side note is character development is magnificent. watch some youtube videos behind the theories of this anime, your mind will be blown out of the water. there are parallels i’ve NEVER noticed the first time watching between characters. also there isn’t a main protagonist.
my hero academia – this is basically naruto done RIGHT. you have your characters that the story starts with but doesn’t stay on. it expands, you get subtle background on characters but not so much where your attention shifts from other characters, it keeps you guessing and it keeps you engaged. battles aren’t dragged on for ten episodes or five damn years. there’s also something relatable about the series, with izuku being a true definition of underdog. also the characters actually TRAIN. that’s a massive plus, we don’t just see these power ups. i also love how the power ups also aren’t overly done or asspulls. the characters also have weaknesses!!! like they have LIMITS!! the main character LOSES battles!! the main character reflects on OTHERS!! on HIMSELF!!! it’s not all about HIM!!! this series will make you cry, will make you laugh and actually make you sit on the edge of your chair. in the fandom itself we all have one main spoken rule; everybody fucking hates mineta.
assassination classroom – talk about underrated as hell. you want a true underdog? this entire series is about achieving the impossible and gaining true utter respect. it also has antagonists (aside from that ONE guy, y'all KNOW the one) who become likable. it’s not centered around romance because it doesn’t matter. what you THOUGHT you knew, you DON’T know, meaning this series ISN’T predictable. it keeps you engaged and i have to admit i’ve rewatched it numerous times and i cry, laugh and breakdown every time. there’s something about this series that brings you to life. these kids aren’t even the definition of “troubled” either, there’s a kid in that classroom who is literally there only because his family is poor and he was caught with a job making money, which is illegal for families to rise even slightly above the poverty line because it’s essentially stealing from the government i guess.character development and plot twists GALORE!!! the only spoken rule in this anime; korosensei is everybody’s daddy. (sexual or familial, all up to you, in most cases people wouldn’t mind either)
gintama – for a series with 80% of it making no sense, it actually makes more sense than naruto did as a whole and that says a lot because gintama doesn’t have a set and stone plot line. yet the characters are relatable. there was an episode about the man who didn’t say a word to anyone because he was too scared, he was relevant for one or two episodes and we got an ENTIRE character development. it was fascinating. we also have characters that looks can be deceiving with. Sougo who has a baby face, is a sadist yet the most loyal bad ass there is. Sarutobi is also a sadist yet she has incredible development on her own aside from trying to rape gintoki basically. Katsura is a damn idiot but he’s gorgeous as hell. Kamui talks like a child with a gentle smile and he’s actually brutal as hell – basically this series is everything you could ever not expect. And what’s even BETTER about gintama is there is absolutely no hatred for anyone or anything. search this fandom in the tags and you won’t find a single thing centered around hatred. this fandom is as healthy as it gets because there’s nothing but love.
this is just a few. i promise on my life to you that the naruto fandom isn’t all there is. and believe me – no other fandom is even nearly as toxic/unlikeable.

Who is the Mystery Man?: Theories and Speculation
Sans and Papyrus are rather mysterious characters. That’s a huge part of their appeal, and why they’re so damned popular in the Undertale fandom, Sans in particular. But even more mysterious than either of them is Dr. W.D. Gaster, the former royal scientist.
But just who or what is Gaster? Most people seem to agree that this guy is Gaster:
This sprite’s file name is “spr_mysteryman_0″ in Undertale’s game files. He’s not given a specific name, so we don’t really know if he’s Gaster or not.
But supposing he was? Or, at the very least, he was a part of Gaster?
One of the gray Gaster followers you meet as a “Fun” event in Undertale informs you that when Gaster “vanished”, he was “shattered across time and space”. That same follower claims to be holding a piece of Gaster before disappearing himself into thin air.
Let us consider that we encounter different random events in the game according to your save file’s “fun” value, which is generated with each new game or reset. This includes every event related to Gaster, like the followers and Mystery Man’s door. You can encounter more than one random event per save file. Here at this link is a chart of “fun” value events by maxdefolsch from imgur. Three of the values are of the Gaster followers. One is for the sound test room, which has Gaster’s Theme. Another is Mystery Man’s hallway, with a very tiny chance of seeing his door and being able to enter his room. Values 91 through 100 allow you to meet Goner Kid, which arguably is related to Gaster based on their Follower-esque colors and the conversation you have with them.
Oh, and of course, there is the “Wrong Number Song”, where the caller asks for someone whose name starts with “G”. Sure, they could be asking for Grillby, or Gerson, or perhaps someone else... but why would they try and hide the name of whom they’re looking for unless it’s taboo?
After all... it’s rude to talk about someone who’s listening, according to one of the followers, and to Sans on the official Undertale blog. And you wouldn’t want to disappear because of it, like that one follower did.
My point is, Gaster’s presence is in 53 different “fun” values out of a possible 100. If we regard each “fun” value as a separate timeline, then Gaster’s existence is horribly split apart across 53 different timelines. If we DON’T count Goner Kid, and they’re a separate incident from Gaster entirely, that’s still 43 timelines left over.
Mystery Man is a tiny piece of Gaster, one who barely exists at all. Hell, you can even walk through him when you enter his room, as he possesses no collision physics. He only disappears into thin air when you try to interact with him, with this expression on his face:
(By the way, this is “spr_mysteryman_1″ in the game’s files.)
But, you’re probably wondering... if Mystery Man is only a part of Gaster, what part is he? My theory about this connects way back to Toby Fox’s other game of note, his Earthbound Halloween Hack. Yeah, we’re going there.
It’s no secret that Undertale was heavily inspired by Earthbound. Toby is a huge fan of the game, and he’d actually made multiple hacks of the game under the alias “Radiation”. His Halloween Hack, however, is his most famous one, and as MatPat from Game Theory pointed out (whether you love him or hate him), it’s easy to see that Toby took quite a few ideas from the Halloween Hack and put it into Undertale.
Allow me to name some examples (and don’t worry, there IS a point to this):
Behold, an Amalgamate.
A predecessor to Flowey in Dr. Andonuts’ Magicant.
Time travel, complete with time machine (which is what many speculate to be in Sans’ workshop).
And of course:
A mad scientist resembling Uboa from Yume Nikki, a.k.a. this weird thing:
And by the way, that last screenshot? That takes place before you fight Dr. Andonuts. But you don’t fight the swearing and angry Andonuts first, remember? No, what you fight is this:
You fight The Id. What is The Id? According to Wikipedia, a person’s id is one of the three parts of Sigmund Freud’s model of the human psyche. It is the part of the human mind that is “the source of our bodily needs, wants, desires, and impulses, particularly our sexual and aggressive drives”. The id is the part of the human mind that says “I WANT”, and if left unchecked will do absolutely anything to get it, even if it’s unrealistic, destructive, or immoral. If it means getting what it wants, it will destroy everything around it. This is not because the id is evil, but because it is our most primal self. Dr. Andonuts sees himself as a monster, and his personal desires as monstrous, hence his most primal self looking the way it does.
How does this tie to Gaster, though? Well... let’s have a look at this scene from the Genocide boss fight against Sans in Undertale:
Sans has dealt with someone in the past who has allowed their id to consume them and become a destructive force. Sans knows the player will destroy the timeline if he doesn’t stop them, and he knows this because he’s dealt with this exact same situation before. The timeline Sans was originally from was destroyed by this person. This person is none other than...
Our mystery man. The Id of Dr. W.D. Gaster.
But remember how I said that there were THREE parts to Sigmund Freud’s model of the human psyche? Let’s examine the other two parts for a moment:
The Ego is the mediator between The Id and reality, seeking to find ways to please the id and grant it its desires in a realistic, organized manner. The ego utilizes “judgment, tolerance, reality testing, control, planning, defense, synthesis of information, intellectual functioning, and memory” to make sense of the person’s thoughts and the world around them. If the id was a car engine, the ego would be the driver behind the wheel.
The Super-Ego is the third part of Freud’s model, and is a direct contradiction to the id. It represents a person’s conscience, borne from societal expectations, spiritual teachings, “cultural regulations”, and morals taught to the person as they were growing up. The super-ego strives for perfection, and shames the id for their desires. The ego uses the super-ego as a guideline to try and keep the id in check, and to set personal standards for the person to live up to.
Now, with these in mind, let’s have a look at Sans and Papyrus, who are clearly tied to Gaster by the fact they likely both own Gaster Blasters:
Now... remember how much Sans values integrity? Integrity is defined as “the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness”. This alone seems to make Sans a very Super-Ego sort of guy. Unfortunately, Sans isn’t pure Super-Ego; he gives into his desires of laziness, eating junk food, and basically being a slob. It’s up to Papyrus to snap him out of those things and keep him in check. In fact... doesn’t Papyrus seem to be a far more moral person than Sans? Hell, he even refuses to kill the human when its clear they’re genocidal.
Besides, let us also remember that Papyrus uses Blue magic just like Sans, which could mean he values integrity just as much as his brother.
But what about Ego? Papyrus, for having a very passionate and driven personality, is very much Ego in the Freudian sense. He is far more organized than Sans is. Though he does get impatient, he’s a lot more tolerant than, say, Undyne. He calculates battle strategies and builds puzzles, making use of planning, defense, synthesis of information, and intellectual functioning. As for memory, there are many clues throughout Undertale that Papyrus remembers every single reset. He knew about Mettaton having “bishonen eyes” before Mettaton EX was revealed to the public. He predicted Asgore cutting a hedge in the shape of his smile. He makes a remark about the True Pacifist ending being “the worst possible ending” with a smile on his face, as if he knew there were other endings and knew they’d reached the best one. You could argue that Papyrus knows about some of this stuff through Flowey’s “predictions”, but Flowey himself has stated that Papyrus has never failed to surprise him somehow, so who knows?
So what does this all mean? Well... if I’m correct, Papyrus is physically all that is left of W.D. Gaster. Yup, you heard me. Papyrus is Gaster’s Ego and Super-Ego combined!
But wait, you ask, how on earth is that possible!?
Here’s where things get speculative: you know the DT extractor from the True Lab? The one Alphys built using blueprints, possibly from Sans’ workshop?
Take a look at that and tell me that doesn’t look like a Gaster Blaster. In other words, something Dr. Gaster would have built. I believe that, in the original timeline (the one that was destroyed), Gaster DID build the DT extractor, and was extracting human determination to experiment with.
We all know monsters melt when they have too much determination in their bodies, right? And yet, we know for a fact there is one monster who can alter reality to their whim: Sans, who can teleport at will.
It is with this in mind that it is entirely possible that Sans - who was Gaster’s lab assistant - was injected with just enough Determination to manipulate space-time so he could teleport short distances. And perhaps Gaster gave himself determination to grant himself power as well, and it worked. But as neat as the party tricks he and Sans could pull were, they weren’t enough to get past the Barrier.
How could they do that without melting? In your typical RPG, a skeleton monster is a member of the undead, once human but given life once more through the power of magic. What if skeleton monsters in Undertale can withstand more determination than most monsters because they used to be human? Wouldn’t they have more physical mass than most monsters because they were part of a human body?
After their initial failure, Gaster had reached the same conclusion as Alphys would: using monster soul power was the only way to break the Barrier. Perhaps, now that he and Sans had powerful determination, maybe their own souls would be strong enough to help?
Maybe Gaster began developing technology that could extract souls and contain them, provided the body they came from had enough determination. Gaster would inject himself with increasing amounts of determination until finally, he deemed himself able to use the soul extractor on himself. There would be just one problem: just as Alphys states in the game, it would require a great amount of power to extract a soul from a monster. Gaster would have a solution, however: Chara’s soul. Though he would dare not kill King Asgore’s child and harvest their soul, he could easily employ Chara to be a living battery for his soul removal technology. And that just might be what he did.
So, Gaster uses the soul removal tech on himself with Chara’s help. Somehow, he successfully removes his own soul from his body, but because he was so full of human determination, he did not die. He could never die, now reduced to a pile of undying goop.
However, something peculiar happened with his soul. Rather than crumble to dust, it immediately began to re-form into a new monster. a little baby skeleton. This was Papyrus. Canonly, a monster’s soul is what makes up their entire body, hence why they immediately crumble to dust when they die. And according to my theory/speculations/whatever, this is why Papyrus was born from Gaster’s soul.
So, Gaster now lacked a soul, AND his experiment was a colossal failure. His kindness, compassion, and morals now existed in a separate monster. He was now pure id without an ego or super-ego. He would pretty much go down the same path as Flowey, and end up destroying his and Sans’ timeline.
Woo... that took LITERAL HOURS to write. But these are just my own thoughts. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll talk a bit more about Papyrus.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes - Review Of The Planet Of The Apes blog
(SPOILER WARNING: The following is an in-depth critical analysis. if you haven’t seen this movie yet, you may want to before reading this review)
I really had to steel myself before watching this again. The last time I saw Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes was in the cinema back when it was released in 2014. I bought the Blu-Ray and its been sitting in my cupboard for three years, unwrapped and untouched. I just couldn’t bring myself to watch it again. Not because Dawn is bad. Oh no. The complete opposite. Dawn is an incredible movie. Quite possibly one of the best summer blockbusters in recent memory. It’s because of how emotional, intense and downright depressing it is.
Set ten years after the events of Rise, most of humanity has been wiped out by a virus caused by the ALZ-113 drug. Caesar and his tribe of intelligent apes now live in the Redwoods, but their peaceful existence is disrupted when they discover a group of human survivors nearby. Animosity soon brews between the two factions, as well as within Caesar’s tribe, as the film asks whether the two can possibly co-exist.
I think the biggest reason why Dawn succeeds as well as it does is because of Matt Reeves’ direction and attention to detail. You can tell from watching the movie that a huge amount of effort has gone into how this ape society is constructed, how they communicate with each other as well as how the characters interact with each other and how past events may influence their behaviour. It’s these carefully and methodically thought out details that really help to absorb you into this world and become invested in the characters to the point where you start to forget you’re even watching a movie.
Dawn also puts far greater emphasis on characters this time around. In fact this movie is very different from most other blockbuster movies as well as other movies in the franchise because it’s the characters that define the story as opposed to the other way around, which is rare to see. Reeves puts a considerable amount of time and energy into getting us to form a strong emotional bond with the characters, particularly with...
Everybody loved Caesar in the previous movie, but Dawn takes it to a whole new level. Andy Serkis gives quite possibly the best performance of his entire career, creating a very nuanced, sympathetic and compelling lead. Like with Rise, Serkis’ greatest skill as a performer is the way in which he conveys what his character is thinking and feeling through non-verbal communication. With just a simple grimace or a tilt of the head, he can say more than a 3 page monologue ever could. The CGI has also gone up a level since last time, to the point where you actually completely forget that you’re looking at a CGI character. You don’t even think about it. Caesar is real.
It also helps that the writing for Caesar is top notch, with screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver returning from Rise. After the events of Rise, Caesar has become far more battle hardened and is somewhat skeptical of humans, having witnessed their cruelty firsthand. However he also knows that humans are capable of kindness and good deeds too due to his experience with his ‘father’ Will. This is why he lets Malcolm and the other humans come into ape territory to repair the hydroelectric dam, which puts Caesar at odds with the other apes, most notably Koba (oh we’ll get to him in a minute, don’t worry), and his son Blue-Eyes. Caesar naively believes that apes are incapable of the same cruelty and vindictiveness as humans, only to then learn a very harsh lesson over the course of the film as his utopia slowly crumbles around him. What I especially love is how Caesar initially speaks mostly through sign language like the rest of the apes, but as he interacts more with humans and discovers that apes and humans are both equally flawed and really aren’t so different, he actually starts vocalising more, thus becoming more human.
Of course it’s easy to single out Andy Serkis for individual praise, and yes he absolutely deserves an Academy Award, but let’s not forget the other ape performers who worked just as hard in this movie. Karin Konoval as Maurice the orangutan, Terry Notary who plays Rocket as well as trained the other performers in ape acting, Nick Thurston as Caesar’s son Blue-Eyes, and of course Toby Kebbell as Koba.
Holy shit, I can’t remember the last time I was this scared of a character. Koba is unbelievably frightening, and what makes him so is not just his scheming malevolence or his unpredictability, but also the fact that we can in some ways identify with him. We see him save Caesar and Blue-Eyes at the beginning of the film. We know about his background and how he was tortured and experimented on by humans. We see him have friendly interactions with the other characters. We like and can empathise with Koba, which is what makes his turn to villainy so horrifying to watch. Watching a character we like and care about do these monstrous things makes for very uncomfortable viewing. But at the same time, it doesn’t come from nowhere. He’s not a one dimensional baddie who’s evil for the sake of being evil. Everything he does has a logic and reason behind it. Whereas Caesar has seen both good and bad in humanity, Koba has only seen the bad. He doesn’t trust Malcolm or the other humans and is terrified that something is going to happen to his new tribe. In his own way, he believes he’s acting for the ultimate good, sacrificing Caesar so that he could assume command and do what he feels must be done. Exterminate humanity so that the apes can live in peace. He’s motivated primarily by fear, but also by a feeling of impotence and powerlessness, hence the shocking sequence where he kills Rocket’s son Ash after he refuses to kill a human. At that point you feel as though any moral conscience has gone completely and that he’s gone mad with power.
The conflict between Caesar and Koba takes some inspiration from the conflict between Caesar and Aldo in Battle For The Planet of The Apes, but whereas the Caesar/Aldo conflict didn’t really amount to anything because we didn’t know nor care that much about either of them, the Caesar/Koba conflict is both gripping and nerve-wracking. It’s fascinating to see these two former friends become polar opposites and clash over their conflicting ideologies in a fight that will dictate not only the future of the tribe but potentially the entire planet as well. I was genuinely scared for Caesar’s safety and was on the edge of my seat in the final climactic showdown. Koba’s literal fall from grace was a fitting end after his figurative fall, and he’s easily the best antagonist ever to come out of this franchise. Toby Kebbell did an excellent job in the role. He’s so good at getting under Koba’s skin. i wonder if he’ll get the opportunity to explore and portray other villains in his career.
Oh.
Dawn is such an emotional, intelligent and beautifully constructed movie that it would be almost blasphemous to start criticising it, but alas, as much as I love this movie, I do have one teeny, tiny problem with it. The human characters.
Now don’t get me wrong. I don’t hate the human characters or anything. They’re not even badly written. I really liked Gary Oldman as Dreyfus. The scene where they get the power restored and he sees photos of his family on his iPad for the first time in ten years made me sob like a tiny child. I thought Jason Clarke did a good job as the main human protagonist Malcolm, and I also liked Keri Russell and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Ellie and Alexander respectively. The trouble is they’re a bit bland and under-developed. Now the human characters being bland compared to the ape characters isn’t exactly a new thing to the franchise. Give me Cornelius and Zira over hammy old Charlton Heston any day. But in a movie where you’re supposed to care and be concerned about both sides, it’s kind of a problem. I just didn’t really care about the humans all that much. In fact in some ways I feel that the humans are a victim of the apes’ success. The filmmakers know we’ve come to see the apes and to see Caesar’s continued development and so naturally they put more effort into that. While Caesar’s story is spectacularly good, it’s a bit of a double edged sword because it does effectively steamroll over everything else.
I feel one possible solution could have been to strengthen the parallels between the ape and human characters. There are some obvious comparisons you could make between Koba and Dreyfus for instance. Ellie’s attempts to bond with Alexander is similar to Caesar’s attempts to bond with Blue-Eyes, and I wish they could have given that a proper conclusion. As for Malcolm, while I do like Clarke’s performance, I personally feel they should have brought James Franco back as Will and have the relationship between him and Caesar explored further. Using a pre-existing human character would certainly have helped us to form more of a connection with the human settlement, plus you’d have had that history between him and Caesar too play around with. Malcom, while a nice guy, isn’t particularly interesting and seems to be more of a cipher for the audience as opposed to a character in his own right.
While the humans are a bit weak, I ind it hard to fault Dawn of The Planet Of The Apes because the rest of it is just so damn good. It’s definitely a worthy follow-up to Rise and one of the best sequels ever made, continuing the journey of Caesar thoughtfully and effectively whilst providing a tense and emotional experience for the audience. Without a doubt, a modern classic.

1-10, 13-15 for Undertale AND Steven Universe >;)
UNDERTALE
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*
Frisk/Asriel/Chara in any combination. They’re small y’all. Asriel and Chara were literally siblings. I can sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorta see the appeal of Frisk/Asriel but. Like. C’mon.
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?*
Uhhhhh Soriel tbh. I like it but to be ENTIRELY honest I like it pale so much more than flush. Like… they just seem like good bros… they can help each other with each other’s deep and honestly crippling interpersonal issues….
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
Nah, not Undertale
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*
Incest is bad kids.
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*
No, not really. Most of my pairings were pretty bland or impossible to ruin tbh.
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?*
It made me consider flush Soriel. *shrugs* Consider doesn’t necessarily mean like but I do have a passive enjoyment of it? It’s not something I actively DISLIKE by any means!!! I just also wouldn’t ever seek it out.
7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*
Okay so I DO still like Sans but @fandom what the FUCK
8. Have you received anon hate? What about?*
Nah not for Undertale.
9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
I LOVE ALL OF THEM EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM IS MY PRECIOUS DELIGHT I CANNOT FIND ROOM FOR DISLIKE FOR ANY OF MY CHILDREN NOT EVEN JERRY
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
ASRIEL YOU GET YOUR ASS OUT OF THAT FLOWER PATCH AND GO LIVE WITH YOUR FAMILY YOU SELF-MARTYRING FUCK
13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?
Chara has received a lot more sympathy since the initial playthroughs, but it always bears repeating that they are not an evil human. They are a very broken, very injured child. To be the player is to show Chara the nature of humanity: if you allow Frisk to be pacifist, Chara sees the kindness in humans, the forgiveness, even at personal sacrifice. If you kill the monsters, their mom, their dad, the only creatures that have ever been kind to them, then they in turn take over, killing them all themself so that you will trade them your soul and they can burn it all to the ground, making sure you, oh player, are never able to hurt another person ever again.
They’re broken, they’re twisted, they’re hurt, but they are only as violent as you make them feel they have to be.
14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
It was wild but it was good. I miss the Undertale fandom.
No wait okay here it is: Why the FUCK was there not more Mettaton and/or Undyne porn on my dash? Toby Fox delivered unto us a literal bishie sexy robot sparkleboy and a queer muscular fish warrior and y’all decided to make porn of the literal pile of BONES? Smh.
15. Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?
Asgore was not weak. Kindness is not weakness. Duty is not weakness. Being caught in your own double-bind is not weakness. Asgore was shouldered with a terrible weight and, when he needed it most, almost no emotional support. I do not blame Toriel for leaving him, I do not feel angry at her for never looking back, but y’all have to understand: Asgore was but one person in a very difficult situation, and when perfection is the size of a needlepoint you cannot blame a man with that heavy of a burden for falling off.
STEVEN UNIVERSE
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*
Pearl/Garnet…. Y’all… Garnet’s monogamous… Pearl might not be and Rose Quartz definitely was not, but y’all. Garnet is the only one for Garnet.
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?*
Pearl/Amethyst!!!! Tbh they read as very much a big sister/little sister to me, especially when I look back at the way my own sister and I acted when we were teenagers/young adults.
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
Nah not SU.
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*
Uh….. Not rea- PEARL/GREG !!!!! FUCK PEARLGREG Y’ALL SHES A LESBIAN AND THEY ONLY RECENTLY MANAGED TO MOVE PAST SOME *VERY SERIOUS ISSUES* why would you ship them not even in pitch y’all cmon….
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*
Nah.
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?*
I saw a post shipping the Cool Kids together in a poly relationship once and it changed my life forever I fucking LOVE COOLSHIPPING you guys don’t even understand they’re just a trio of cool kids. Having fun. Loving life. And each other.
7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*
I briefly dabbled in Lars/Sadie but Lars needs to grow a LOT before he’s ready for a romantic relationship with anyone and Sadie has some issues of her own she needs to move past before she’s ready for a romantic relationship with Lars specifically.
8. Have you received anon hate? What about?*
Not in SU!
9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
Kevin probably. Nobody likes Kevin. Also Aquamarine… but only tentatively… I’m curious. I want to see what the Crewniverse is gonna do with her. I can SEE how redemption would come about, but at the very current moment I’m puttin a soft no on her. Oh and Holly Blue is p nasty.
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
BRING BACK CENTIPEEDLE MY WIFE!!!! BRING BACK BISMUTH Y’ALL PLEASE JUST TELL HER TO CHILL OUT AND EXPLAIN THINGS PLEASE!!!! FREE THE DESERT GLASS WHY ARE YOU JUST LEAVING HER TRAPPED!!!!!! SHE’S GONNA BE PISSED WHEN SHE FINALLY GETS OUT!!!!!!
13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?
White Diamond is going to MURDER my gay ass when she finally shows and I’m going to thank her. That’s not really unpopular but that’s it that’s my… well okay it’s not much of an opinion either but there you have it anyway.
14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
All fandoms have their intellectual engagements and all fandoms have cesspools. One cannot exist without the other. There is nothing I can say about fandom in either positive or negative light that has not been said before, but I do think people tend to be a touch hard on Rebecca + Crewniverse for their treatment of Jasper. Remember folks, it’s not over yet, try to open your mind a bit and clutch a little less tightly to the characterization you think Jasper has, maybe try out some different interpretations as to WHY Jasper acts the way she does and why + when she’ll be able to come back within the confines of her canon characterization.
