2017 SBS Drama Awards - December 31, 2017
Best Supporting Actress (Park Jin-Joo)
Hae-Sung hayata döndüğünde kardeşleri; Sung Young-Joon (Yoon Sun-Woo) doktor, Sung Young-In(Kim Ga-Eun) mağaza görevlisi, Sung Hae-Cheol(Kwak Dong-Yeon) serseri, Sung Soo-Ji(Kim Hye-Jun) ise öğrencidir.
Her bölümü izlerken IQ seviyemin düştüğünü hissettim. Ve salağa anlatır gibi konuşmaları… Cümlenin başında ortasında sonunda, gerçek anlamda tek bir cümlede 3 kere isim söylemelerine inanılmaz takıldım. İzlerken çıldırdım.
Son olarak oyunculardan biraz bahsedeyim. Kwak Dong-Yeon’a Vincenzo dizisinden beri bayılırım. Her an o göz yaşını akıtmaya hazır duruşu takdir edilesi. Cinderella and the four knights dizisinin parlak dudaklı oyuncusu.

This is a movie I had never heard of until the Summer Challenge Series over on the Podcast Under the Stairs for the 2000s. It is a solid and somewhat brutal slasher film with a bit of mystery mixed in. Have you seen this modern, South Korean take on a popular sub-genre?

Hey talk to me about your top three favourite kdrama women. What makes them special? What's a fic you would like to write about any one of them?
Mystery anon! :D What a lovely ask.
I’m going to cheat a bit and divide my answer into characters I loved a lot, but do not want to write fic about, because I think the canon gives me what I need; and characters that I loved a lot but NEED TO BE RESCUED ZOMG. (My fic writing impulses are 50% spite and 50% fix-it )
Caveat being that I’ve still watched only maybe a dozen kdramas, so I’m pretty limited in my knowledge!
Characters that I love a lot, but have very zero fic impulses toward:
Han Yeo-jin from Stranger/Secret Forest: What a delight! What an iconique character! Is there anyone like her? NO. LSY-nim gives us a delightfully complex character, and Bae Doona knocks it out of the park in every single scene, so I’m just happy to be along for the ride. I think what makes Yeo-jin special for me is the intrinsic place of empathy that she operates from. I think “righteous” is a word that often comes with negative connotations (self-righteous, for eg), but I do think she’s one of the most righteous-in-the-good-way characters I’ve watched in kdrama or any drama. I’m tired of stories that portray goodness as “boring” , as unworthy of narrative breadth or depth, and I love that Han Yeo-jin comes to us like a breath of fresh air in our particular dystopian narratives hellscape. She’s good, but never naive. She’s righteous but never cruel in her moral certainties. I think that LSY nim, in the second season especially, gave Yeo-jin the kind of arc that character deserved when she’s forced to really dig deep into herself to figure out how she’s going to live in the world in the face of a deeply cutting, deeply personal disillusionment, and I’m really hoping for an S3 to see how that plays out further.
Goo Hae-ryung from Rookie Historian: Ok, I will admit this may be rose tinted glasses view due to this show being my gateway drug into kdrama, but c’mon! She’s a reader! and a Thinker! And loves her wine! She’s plucky! She’s cute! She’s got a wry sense of humour! She’s got principles! She’s got a solid common sense to her that somehow doesn’t get in the way of her dreaming BIG! Oh dear, doesn’t she sound like the Mary-est of Mary Sues? Good for her.gif, I say! Anyways, Shin Se-kyung is unutterably charming in this (AS IN EVERY SHOW OMG GIRL) and I just have a huge fondness for free-spirited heroines who get to tramp through the narrative changing the world as they do!
Lee Ji-an from My Ahjussi: I’ve never had my heart broken more OR restored by any single character. IU is *phenomenal * in this, I think she really stepped up to what the script demanded from her. Ji-an’s weariness, her fear and vulnerability, her prickliness, her anger and her bitterness, and how, despite everything, she fights : GOD. Just. Again, what I love about the writing in this show is that it’s deeply empathetic without being cloyingly sentimental. I think a less, hmm, imaginative writer/PD might have focused on the Lee Ji-an the victim, and while the show definitely tells you in no uncertain terms that she is one, of both circumstances and a cruel society, I think it refuses to take away her agency over her own life.(Lee Ji-an when we meet her is too busy hanging onto life by tooth and claw to indulge in self-pity, but we also see the toll it takes on her not to be able to say “this is too heavy a burden for me to carry myself and it isn’t my fault”; the show I think approaches Dong-hoon from the opposite side- his emotional isolation is partly a result of his own choices, but he doesn’t see it yet, and so his journey is also about letting people in and sharing the burden, but also recovering his own agency over his life. It’s an interestingly gender-bent arc, which is one of the things I love about this show. )
Ok, can I please add one more?
Hwang Han-joo from Melo is my Nature: She just felt SO real to me. She’s someone who doesn’t have the spectacular brilliance of either Jin-joo or Eun-jung, and struggles with accepting her limitations but not allowing herself to be defeated by them? I love her struggles as a mother, as a working woman in a sexist industry, a woman who’s perhaps having to rethink and reimagine what she wants from romance. I love that she’s a little silly, a lot kind, and an optimist, and just. I just think she’s the bravest of the three, tbh, and I LOVE HER AND I WOULD WATCH A SPIN OFF ABOUT JUST HER (i shouldn’t have faves among the three i know, BUT I DO, IT’S HER, IT’S HER.)
Ok! On to the next section! And I’m going to cheat again because I can’t stop at three. SORRY. NOT SORRY.
Characters I love and SHOULD write fic for if I weren’t such a tired and lazy bunny:
Song Sa-hui from Rookie Historian: Oh, girl, girl, GIRL. I love how she fights to snatch her freedom from the jaws of the patriarchy. I love that she unapologetically centers herself while doing that, because she knows that nobody else will. I love that she’s prickly and calculating. I love that she’s smart and knowledgeable. I am SO HAPPY that she got to carve out a little bit of freedom for herself, even if it also is exile to some degree. She *should * be Emperor Jin’s Prime Minister and steering the ship of state, while also carrying on a tumultous affair with Queen Min Woo-hee, while ALSO commiserating with Emperor Jin about his boyfriend Historian Min Woo-won’s regrettable tendency towards Principles (TM) and masochism-but-not-in-the-fun-way. (This takes up much of his time which is why Song Sa-hui is running the country, of course. It works out well for all concerned, well, except her dad, of course.)
Song Ga-gyeong from Search:WWW: What’s NOT to love about our brilliant, beautiful, emotionally tortured gay icon? Nothing, absolutely nothing. I loved how the show allowed her to be flawed and make bad decisions, and then allowed her to make better decisions and regain control of her life. What I do need to do, of course, is see the CANON LOVE STORY between her and Cha Hyeon through to the end. It must, of course, include at least one baseball game, a lot of tequila and messy beach kisses.
Oh Ji-hwa from Beyond Evil: Oh boy, this year’s runaway hit cleared the extremely low bar for standard crime/ thriller shows by leaving more than one of its female characters breathing and with all limbs intact, and got called feminist for it BUT it didn’t do justice to any of them in any meaningful way and that never hurt more than in the way they sidelined Kim Shin-rok’s talent by not giving Oh Ji-hwa anything much to do. She’s a tough as nails cop, a loving sister, a devoted but unsentimental friend-and by rights SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE HEROINE OF THIS SHOW. My secret fic fantasy is to rewrite the show entirely by making her , and the two other female characters in non-antagonist roles- Yoo Jae-yi and Im Sun-nyeo- as the central characters, as they investigate a serial killer who targets women. It’s the only acceptable version of this done-to-death (ha!) genre, I have no idea what the Baeksang jury and tumblr fandom is smoking when they hype the show so much, I want none of it.
Jung Sun-ah from The Devil Judge: I love her rage, her spite, her passionate defense of women, her style, her sexiness, her rage, her rage, her brilliance, her tenaciousness, her smartness, her clothes, her refusal to hate herself for everything she is and chooses to be, her ambition, her comfort wielding power, her EVERYTHING. Dead, her? NOT IF I HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT. Here’s what *really * happened at the end of canon- she gets out of the building by planting that lady-like but still deadly gun against Kang Yo-han’s temple and making him lead her through his own “secret escape route” or whatever the fuck it was the show wanted us to believe. From there on out, it’s all sunshine and beaches, and scheming and waiting for the right moment to strike again-though of course, this time around, she also has to reckon with vigilant, tenacious cop Soo-hyun -another character who REALLY didn’t die for manpain reasons and had the good sense to leave her gay best friend to follow his psychopath boyfriend to Switzerland or wherever it is that star crossed lovers in kdrama land meet up on the regs these days- anyways, Soo-hyun and her are in this catch-me-if-you-can epic transnational honest and cute cop-and-beautiful sexy villain chase and yes, they WILL kiss (and more) AND IT WILL BE GLORIOUS.
*whew *
Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk.

4 K-Dramas that make me go ✨w o m a n✨
Today I present to you the Crème de la Crème. Beautiful, pretty, smart and unstoppable: These K-Dramas make me want to marry the female characters. I promise after watching these four series you will question yourself again what sexuality you are.
Strong roles for female characters are actually rare in K-Drama. Too often they depend on the help and validation of men, are portrayed stereotypical or in unrealistic ways. These following K-Dramas are breaking the standard roles of those female characters and make them the heroine of the story:
- Hotel del Luna [호텔 델루나] // 2019 by Oh Choong-Hwan, Hong Jeong-Eun // 16 Episodes
Hotel del Luna is a story about Man-Wol, who is forced to care for a supernatural hotel due to a sin she committed in the past. It is a guest house for the souls/ghosts of deceased humans who have unfinished business on earth before going to the afterlife. Besides Man-Wol there are also other staff at the hotel such as the receptionist Hyun-Joong and the human hotel manager Chan-Sung. The story evolves around Man-Wol’s past life, her relationship with Chan-Sung and the development of her character.
Man-Wol seems to be a closed in and out of touch character. She loves to spend money on pretty things, acts invulnerable and classy. Her character is strong and independent and as the story develops, we realise, that even in her past live she always relied on herself. The second lead character, the human hotel manager Chan-Sung, helps her to overcome the grief of her past and move on to the future, so she can finally enter the afterlife.
It is an interesting, sometimes sad, mostly entertaining drama with a heartwarming story. If you look closely you can spot other known faces such as Sulli, Lee Do-Hyun, Kang Mi-Na and Soo-Hyun.
Main Actresses and Actors: Lee Ji-Eun (IU) as Jang Man-Wol & Yeo Jin-Goo as Koo Chan-Sung
- Run On [런 온] // 2020 by Lee Jae-Hun, Park Si-Hyeon // 16 Episodes
Run On is a simple romance drama without a big plot line. It tells the story about the average translator Oh Mi-Joo who lives a pretty normal live. Through her job she meets the sprinter Ki Seon-Gyeom who retires shortly after and starts working as an agent for his friend Kim Woo-Sik. They start dating and throughout their relationship they have to face different kind of problems and how to overcome them. The second plot revolves around the unemphatic CEO Seo Dan-A who meets the young art student Lee Yeong-Hwa who starts working on an art pice for her. They too start dating.
Oh Mi-Joo and Seo Dan-A are really strong characters who have their own live and principles. Although having different backgrounds they both display an independent woman who cares for herself first. All relationships in this drama are pretty healthy and something we can actually learn from. Another fact I really like is that we finally see more than only straight characters. Dan-A for example could be seen as a non stereotypical Bi-Character and Yeong-Hwa’s best friend is a gay character with the difficulty of coming out to him.
As I mentioned before there isn’t much of an exciting plot line but the development of the characters and their relationship is fun to watch and makes it a relaxing drama.
Main Actresses and Actors: Yim Si-Wan as Ki Seon-Gyeom, Shin Se-Kyung as Oh Mi-Joo & Choi Soo-Young as Seo Dan-Ah, Kang Tae-Oh as Lee Young-Hwa
- It’s Okay to Not Be Okay [사이코지만 괜찮아] // 2020 by Park Shin-Woo, Jo Yong // 16 Episodes
A story about a sassy child book author who moves back to her old house and starts working at a mental hospital to give lectures about literature. She meets Moon Gang-Tae and his little brother and starts to befriend them. Gang-Tae also works at the mental institution and lives at his old friends house. Together the three start to overcome their past traumas and problems.
Moon-Young the child book author is a mysterious woman who seems to be sadistic and a little bit crazy. She doesn’t fit into society norms and doesn’t give a s*** about other opinions. Moon-Young also has a fantastic taste in fashion and carelessly of her surroundings wears what she loves (extravagant clothing that looks like she hoped out of a fairy tale). As the story develops, we learn that she has a lot of suppressed trauma because of her mother who wants to kill her. The male lead Gang-Tae has to deal with the difficult relationship with his autistic brother. Moon Sang-Tae, Gang-Tae’s brother on the other hand has untreated trauma from his past, that leads to him being mentally unstable. The plot line focuses on the trio who heal each other through their friendship and trust in each other.
I really enjoyed watching this drama. All characters are interesting and have their own motives and stories. Seo Yea-Ji is a great actor and fits the role of Ga-Young perfectly plus she is super pretty. I recommend this drama for everyone who wants to watch something out of the ordinary.
Main Actresses and Actors: Seo Yea-Ji as Koo Moon-Young & Kim Soo-Hyun as Moon Gang-Tae
- The Uncanny Counter [경이로운 소문] // 2020 by Yoo Sun-Dong // 16 Episodes
This Drama is about a high schooler named So Mun who is lives with his grand parents and is a pretty soft boy. He becomes a “Counter” and joins a group of other “Counter” to catch evil spririts. Together they start digging up the wrong doings of mayor Shin Myeong-whi and his partners while catching an unstoppable evil spirit named Ji Cheong-Sin who commits a lot of murders around their town.
The reason I included this Drama is the strong role of Do Ha-Na who is part of the counter group and becomes good friends with So Mun. She is the definition of a strong woman who is independent and relies on herself. Nonetheless she needs help from time to time to overcome hardships. Other female roles such as Counter Mae-Ok and Mun’s friend Ju-Yeon are also non stereotypical female roles with interesting and special traits.
The Uncanny Counter is not a romance Drama but more so an action or fantasy one. It is full of inspirational scenes, characters and interesting plot twists.
Main Actresses and Actors: Jo Byeong-Kyu as So Mun & Kim Se-Jeong as Do Ha-Na

hi, are there any short romantic dramas you’d rec that are as good as splash splash love?
i’d totally recommend KBS Drama Specials! they’re usually about 1 episode long, but are generally pretty good
some more romantic ones are:
Let Us Meet (one of my favourites - set in 1937, about a girl who joins a matchmaking agency to find a husband) (Jo Bo Ah and Son Ho Jun)
Bride in Sneakers (another favourite, its fun and its cute!) (Lee Chung Ah and Kim Jin Woo)
Miss Kim’s Mystery (hilarious antics as an undercover investigator and a company intern try to find a company spy) (Dasom and Kwon Hyuk Soo)
Review Notebook of My Embarrassing Days (another really cute one about a math teacher who is chosen as an exam writer and an on-site police officer) (Jeon So Min and Park Sung Hoon)
Funny Woman (a sweet and fun 2-part romcom about an aspiring comedian who wishes to change her name to Go Ri La and the judge who keeps rejecting her application) (Moon Ji In and Kim Ji Hoon)
Buzzcut Love (i dont know how to explain this one without giving spoilers but its sweet) (Kang Yeon Jung and Kim Jung Hyun)
and these ones are a little more melo romance:
Too Bright for Romance (this one has mixed reviews for sure, but its my favourite - its subtle and realistic) (Choi Kang Hee and Go Joon)
Dancing The Waltz Alone (form KBS: “Someone else’s misfortune is my happiness and vice versa.” What if your lover becomes your competition?) (Moon Ga Young and Yeo Hoi-Hyeon)
The Expiration Date of You and Me (a story about missed timing and missed opportunities) (Shin Hyun Soo and Lee Da In)
The Long Goodbye (after 8 years of dating, a novelist and an editor’s relationship begins to dwindle) (Jang Hee Jin and Lim Ju Hwan)
Come To Me Like A Star (two people at rock bottom fall in love - as noted by KBS “a touching and yet coldly realistic love story”) (Jung So Min and Kim Ji Suk)
Why I’m Getting Married (Seunguk and Jiwon have been engaged for a while, but wedding planning is not the sugar coated dream Jiwon expected; and as an old friend returns to the picture, she becomes conflicted.) (Park Hee Von and Hong Jong Hyun)
You Are Closer Than I Think (KBS to avoid spoilers: The bride disappeared on the day of the wedding. She left her wedding dress in the waiting room and left for Morocco by herself for honeymoon.) (Kim So Eun and Lee Sang Yeob)
and if you’re interested i have a more general list here

Rojas WO HR Helps Wiz Complete Comeback!
Twins 9 Wiz 10 W-Kim (2-3) L-Yeo (1-3)
Mel Rojas Jr. has been a great story in the KBO this season. He is putting up MVP-like numbers with twenty-two homers and sixty RBI’s heading into tonight’s game. He improved on those numbers in a big way as the Twins and Wiz played a crazy game in Suwon. The Twins got on the board first in the second inning. Ho-Eun Kim started it with a two-out walk and Kang-Nam Yoo singled to right. Ju-Hyeon Jung walked to load up the bases. Chang-Gi Hong drew a bases loaded walk, but Ji-Hwan Oh hit a bases clearing double to right and the Twins had a 4-0 lead after two innings of play. The Wiz would get on the board in the third as Seung-Wook Park led-off with a walk and went to second on a balk. He got to third base on a sacrifice bunt and would later score on a Mel Rojas Jr. single to left. KT was within two runs, but LG got those runs back in the fifth. Ji-Hwan Oh led-off with a single to center and Hyun-Soo Kim lined a double to right. Min-Sung Kim drove in a pair with a double to right and the Twins took a 6-1 lead. The Twins would tack on some insurance runs in the seventh as Hyun-Soo Kim walked and Roberto Ramos blasted a Yoo-Soo Jeon offering out to left for his seventeenth home run of the season. The Twins were up 8-1 and Tyler Wilson finished off six solid innings. The game turned over to the bullpen and everything changed. Jeong-Dae Bae started it all with an infield single, Kyung-Soo Park single to center, and Sung-Woo Jung lined a run-scoring single to left. Yong-Ho Jo walked to keep the chain moving and Min-Hyeok Kim drove in two with a single to left. Jae-Gyun Hwang hammered a Dong-Hwan Choi fastball out to left for a three-run blast and the Wiz were within a run. The next batter, Mel Rojas Jr. blasted a Hae-Soo Jin pitch out to right for a solo homer and the game was tied at eight. The Wiz were not done yet with Jeong-Dae Bae keeping the inning alive with a single to right and stealing second base. Seong-Ho Chun hit an RBI single to center and the Wiz took a 9-8 lead after an eight-run seventh inning. Neither side scored in the eighth and we headed into an interesting ninth inning. Jae-Yoon Kim entered the game for KT and retired the first two batters fine. Yong-Yi Kim stepped up to the plate and unloaded on a Kim (3-2) fastball. The ball left the yard and tied the game at nine. In the bottom of the ninth, Mel Rojas Jr. smacked a Geon-Wook Yeo change-up out to right for a walk-off solo home run and the Wiz rallied from behind to win tonight at home.
-Final Thoughts- Tyler Wilson was amazing tonight for the Twins. He went six innings and allowed a run on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts. The Twins bullpen was horrible as they allowed nine of the ten Wiz runs. Je-Seong Bae was roughed up for the Wiz. He gave up six runs on nine hits in five innings of work. Mel Rojas Jr. was the man today. He went 4-for-5 with two homers, three RBI’s, and two runs scored. He is off to a great start a third of the way through the season and is the front runner for the MVP of the KBO. Ji-Hwan Oh led the Twins with three hits on the night. Tomorrow’s game will be the Giants and the Wyverns. Won-Sam Jang will face Geon-Wook Lee on a Wednesday night showdown.
