It is nearing the end of the Hyakinthia.
Hyacinthus is represented as the purple hyacinth and Apollo as the swan, one of his symbols.
Purple hyacinths represent sorrow and desire for forgiveness. In ancient Hellenic art, Apollo was often shown as a swan when shown with Hyacinthus.

This is my life of discreet ways to worship Hyacinthus! I found this list a bit challenging, mostly due to the stress I'm dealing with offline, so I'll likely make edits to it in the future. In the meantime, I hope someone finds this helpful! Take care! 💜

There will also be posts regarding celebration preparation - such as traditional attire, modern rites, and even some recipes!

Hyakinthos 💙
Tumblr media
This is my art of Hyakinthos. I did this drawing in June, as a devotional act for Apollo(n), but i want to share it here in honor of the Hyakinthia festival 💙
Please, don't reblog this as fanart tag, or as pjo or hades game tag or another fandom... Is not a fanart 🥺🙏
Hyakinthia festival saved me... The day when i discovered that Hyakinthos was resurrected in Spartan tradition was a very happy day ✨
I love the fact that he was worshiped together with Apollo in Amyklai, Sparta. Is theorized that he was a pre hellenic vegetation god in that region, but when Apollo's cult came, they shared the cult. I mean, is not the story of a god's cult replacing another. Apollo(n) and Hyakinthos shared the cult, they were worshiped together, even as one, as "a fusion", there's a four armed statue of Apollo in a temple in Amyklai and some scholariast believed it was a fusion between Apollon and Hyakinthos. I really love that 🥺💙
I found it some similarities with Artemis and Britomartis' story and cult too! She was an old cretan goddess of hunting and fishing, but when Artemis' cult came, she became her companion (and according to the Callimachus' hymn to Artemis, she lovest Britomartis 👀) or sometimes another name for the goddess Artemis. In literature, Britomartis jumped into the sea while escaping the advances of King Minos. And was later saved by Artemis, who made her an immortal goddess.

Vasant will get along with Hyakinthos and Krokos but since both of them have boyfriends and he's aroace, he does get left out at times.
BUT BUT HEAR ME OUT
What if he met these two BEFORE they became Apollo and Hermes' lovers and got along really well and tight and like Vasant had to watch Hyakinthos die and he was like as distraught as he was when Kama died, but he had to comfort Apollo and so didn't express himself that well, but when he was alone he'd probably break down.
Nawwwwww that's just evilll :(
but also he'd then just continuously make flower jewelleries out of Hyacinths and maybe gift them to Apollo too.... As a coping mechanism?

LISTEN to me. Generally I'm not a big fan of romantic love as this mythical, overpowering entity that takes from and dominates all other forms of love. Because its not, its flexible, ebbing and flowing, and no less meaningful for it!! Soulmates aren't discovered, they're built after a lifetime of understanding and care!!
BUT THEM..Them!!
There's just something about the pathos of a love that is all-consuming and transcendental, near-mythological in its intensity. An immortal love. The other half of your soul, the imprint you'd even know blind. Your life-breath. You'd choose them over and over again, in every lifetime. If not them, then who?

Hyacinth this, Hyacinth that, what about Cypress, huh? What about Cypress? I could argue that his story was more tragic, not only for himself but for Apollo, too, but you guys aren't ready for that conversation.

Finally got around to coloring this piece. Hyacinthus/Hyakinthos’ ascension to godhood.
Did you know that different hyacinth colors have different meanings?
-Yellow hyacinths mean jealously(never a good idea to gift to people. It would be insulting to them)
-Purple hyacinths mean forgiveness and sorrow
-Blue hyacinths mean sincerity, loyalty, and fidelity
-Pink hyacinths are playful joy
-White hyacinths are for deep thoughts of other people in its purest form
-Red hyacinths mean playful, light, platonic love(even though red flowers usually represent romantic or passionate love, hyacinths are a bit different, though red hyacinths can still mean romance and passion)
Hail Hyakinthos!

A Prayer to Apollon on World AIDS Day
Tumblr media
The Tiber Apollo statue in Rome. Photograph by Miguel Hermoso Cuesta. Courtesy of Wikimedia Commons.
I call upon Apollon Loimios, Averter of evil and deliverer from plague. As you mourned your beloved Hyakinthos, So we grieve for our sisters and brothers Lost to the terrible scourge of AIDS. So many lives cut off too soon, Struck by your far-flung arrows, A generation of voices silenced, Suspended like the fateful throw of a discus. On this first day of bleak December, We call upon their names, We remember their stories, We honor their legacy. May their memory be to us Like an ever-blooming flower, Bringing light and color To a world dull and gray. We ask you, O gentle Paieon, Bless their souls in fair Elysium, Grant them mercy, peace, and well-deserved rest. Bring comfort to those who mourn them, Give strength to those still living with the disease, And accord us wisdom to face future epidemics With greater tolerance, compassion, and wisdom. Hear, Boedromios, and accept my prayer.

Hi! There is an Spartan Calendar in Hellenic Polytheism? I know it used the Athenian one, but me, who want to worship Apollon and Hyakinthos togheter like in Amyklae, would like to know when Hyakinthia comes... I thought is in this month, but i'm not sure... Do you know in which month the festival was celebrated?
I am using this answering post to announce our upcoming Hyakinthia Ceremony. More info after the answer.
Khaire Anon,
I will readily admit I did not know this information off the top of my head, so I wanted to check my sources before answering.
In general, the reason you will see the Athenian Calendar most often used by Hellenics, is because it is the calendar we know the most about. While we do know some things about the calendars of other Ancient Greek regions - it is usually more fragmented or incomplete when compared to the Athenian Calendar.
In the same vein, we don’t know *everything* about the Athenian Calendar or even Athenian Religious Practices - but it is the region we know the most about at this time.
If you are doing research on the Spartan Calendar you should also try searching for and reading about the Laconian Calendar. Based on current research, the Laconian Calendar is believed to be very similar (if not the same as) the Spartan Calendar. And from my sources, it would appear we know slightly more about the Laconians as opposed to the Spartans.
Regarding Hyakintha, according to Harper’s Dictionary of Classical Antiques by Harry Peck (2002), Hyakintha was celebrated for three days during the month of July. The exact three days are presumably unknown based on my sources.
I’d recommend giving them a look to learn more.

I hope this helped!
