Book Blurb: The elves come for two things: war and wives. In both cases, they come for death. Three-thousand years ago, humans were hunted by powerful races with wild magic until the treaty was formed. Now, for centuries, the elves have taken a young woman from Luella's village to be their Human Queen. To be chosen is seen as a mark of death by the townsfolk. A mark nineteen-year-old Luella is grateful to have escaped as a girl. Instead, she's dedicated her life to studying herbology and becoming the town's only healer. That is, until the Elf King unexpectedly arrives... for her. Everything Luella had thought she'd known about her life, and herself, was a lie. Taken to a land filled with wild magic, Luella is forced to be the new queen to a cold yet blisteringly handsome Elf King. Once there, she learns about a dying world that only she can save. The magical land of Midscape pulls on one corner of her heart, her home and people tug on another... but what will truly break her is a passion she never wanted. A Deal with the Elf King is a complete, stand-alone novel, inspired by the tales of Hades and Persephone, as well as Beauty and the Beast, with a "happily ever after" ending. It's perfect for fantasy romance fans looking for just the right amount of steam and their next slow-burn and swoon-worthy couple.
Review:
An elf king and a human queen, an arranged marriage, and two kingdoms at stake. Luella is a human who works as the local herbalist for her community, helping her people as best as she can. In this world, every new elf king must take on a human queen (who possess magic) in order to help seal the magic between the lands and protect both worlds. However the newest king has yet to find his queen.... until now. After a secret is unleashed, Luella discovers that she is the human queen that has been awaited for and is whisked away from her duties, from her family, from her life, to fulfill new duties that would protect her people. However this new marriage is not as blissful or as happy, her elf king is cold, rude, and distant. Luella however will not tolerate this, and soon two complete opposites will be warring with one another, but slowly, discovering that the line between hate and love isn’t so clear and that despite all their yelling and bickering, they just might be falling in love. This was a mixture of Hades & Persephone mixed in with Beauty and the Beast and I LOVED IT. I loved how stubborn but sweet Luella was, if you are kind to her she is kind in turn, if you are rude to her, you bet she will give back what she receives. The romance was a slow burn but oh so worth it and I can’t wait to read the next book!

Review: A Deal with the Elf King (Elise Kova)
Rating: ★★★★★/5
“I press my eyes closed and take a quivering breath. I don’t know the answers. But I want to. I need to. If I stay in Midscape, it must be my choice. I must finally make a choice, of my own volition, free of the influences of any man, with where I stand. I have to take my own advice and choose what I want for myself, not what others want for me.” This was so addictive and such a massive improvement from the only other Elise Kova novel I read. I LOVED this. When the elves come to Capton, they come for a girl. A human queen, trained and ready to serve their kingdom of Midscape in order to keep the balance of the seasons in that kingdom. But there is no human queen, and the elves are coming...Luella is an herbalist, a healer, and definitely not a queen . Or so she thinks - until the Elf King comes to claim her. I've read a few reviews that discuss how this is basically a romance disguised as a fantasy, and how this made this book worse for them. I knew this going in, and so I guess my expectations were tempered, but no matter what I thought, I was pleasantly surprised by this book as a whole. Romantic fantasy is my absolute favourite genre, and I thought that this one does an admirable job of creating atmosphere and world-building while focusing on the relationships that Luella creates. I also absolutely loved the characters we get in this book. Luella is fierce without being annoying or obstinate, and Eldas is masterfully written as defensive with a heart of gold underneath his cold exterior. Their dynamic was so fun and so well crafted. I actually believed that they were falling in love, which I haven't experienced so intensely in a novel in a while. One of my favourite parts of this book is the atmosphere. I just got all the cozy vibes all the way through; it was like An Enchantment of Ravens, except better, because I bought the love story and the character development so much more. The castle and the town and the cottage - all of it came alive for me, and the way Elise discusses the daily goings on and everything just made it all feel like home. No, this isn't hardcore high fantasy. I flew through it because it's light, addictive, and so easy to consume. I love that it's a standable, I love how it's written accessibly, I love the characters and the world and the story. I fully bought into this one, and I can't fucking wait for the next book.

✑ I have to admit that bought this book because of the cover. I mean look how pretty that is! 𝗔 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝗳 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 is being told in 𝗟𝘂𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮'𝘀 𝗣𝗢𝗩. I like her willingness to help people (magical or not). She is duty bound and will do anything for the people of Capton. Then 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗹𝗱𝗮𝘀 comes in the picture looking for the human queen. Just like Luella, Eldas is also duty bound, however, King Eldas character is more complicated than the cold demeanor he always shows.
✑ The relationship between Eldas and Luella was a slow burn with minimal fade to black spice. There really wasn't strong character development from the MCs. I was just 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗗 that Luella 𝙁𝙄𝙉𝘼𝙇𝙇𝙔, 𝙁𝙄𝙉𝘼𝙇𝙇𝙔 followed her heart because that duty bound bullshit was killing me (although I understand her reasoning). I was happy on how it ended 𝗣𝗟𝗨𝗦 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙗𝙤𝙣𝙪𝙨 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜! ♡

I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but this story is just as beautiful as it’s cover art. It did NOT disappoint!! I was hooked from the very beginning.
I absolutely adored this take on Hades and Persephone. The angst pulled my heartstrings at times and I found myself crying more than once. But that fluffy ending made all the pain worth it!! This story is one I’ll most certainly be reading over and over again.

A Deal with the Elf King by Elise Kova
For three thousand years the Elf King has taken a girl to be the Human Queen. General the girl shows signs of wild magic and is identified early in her life, but the next human queen has yet to appear. Luella, a local herbologist, thinks she is safe since she has shown no signs of magic, until one day the Elf King arrives and takes her. The magic of the Human Queens has been dwindling over the years and Luella makes a deal with the Elf King to try and end the need for a Human Queen but the longer she’s there her heart starts to ache for both the village and family she left and the bonds she has made at the castle.
A Deal with the Elf King is a small press novel that gained a lot of popularity on booktube and was recommended for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses. Though this is a fantasy romance, A Deal with the Elf King is more character driven and does not contain much action as A Court of Thorns and Roses. If you’re a fan of fantasy romance and enjoy character driven stories, this may be the book for you.
Star Rating: 4/5

For thousands of years, there has been only one human every hundred of years that has magic. She is the Human Queen. She must marry the Elf King and sit on the throne to replenish the worlds. She is the only hope of both worlds from not being sick and dying. Usually by the age of 16, the Wardens know who the Human Queen is and takes her to the temple to learn and prepare to be Queen and to know the customs of the elves. This time around, the Human Queen is not found and the Elf King ends up coming to find his bride. A girl named Ella faints and Luella, the towns herbalist comes and helps the girl. The King instantly knows Luella is the Human Queen since she performed magic without knowing. Luella is nineteen and never expected she was the Human Queen since someone helped hide her powers without knowing. She is ripped away from her town and whisk away. She feels bad for leaving her town and decides to find a way to end the cycle of Queens. Will she be able to? Will she fall in love?
I really loved this book! I couldn’t put it down. I loved seeing how torn Luella was. I loved both Luella and Eldas’s character growth. I definitely recommend this book.

Luella Heart: Daughter of Queen of Heart
Faceclaim: India Eisley
15 years old, and best friends with Uma’s pirate crew. She is quirky and way to good for The Isle. Her mother cast her out like a demon due to her unique eyes, which are brown surrounded by a bright sea blue. She starts a relationship with The Sea Three(Harry,Uma,Gil) it is the strongest bond she has with anyone. When she gets to Auradon, she rediscovers her love for dance and becomes friends with Wynter(Elsa’s Daughter) and Willow(Snow white’s Daughter) Though she seems a bit off her rocker sometimes, once you get to know her and understand all of her riddles, she is the sweetest human on the planet. She is basically the peace keeper between the Sea Three and Core Four.

Inverse AU: “Partners”
The next morning, Dianne and Lulu sat in silence at the table. Dianne wanted to ask her what she wanted to talk about, start the conversation, but she also wanted to not push her partner into talking if she ended up changing her mind.
They finished munching on berries for breakfast and the shiny debated on going outside for a little bit, maybe Lulu still wanted to think things over and she’d be fine giving her space for-
“So.”
Dianne blinked and looked over at Lulu, who was looking away and playing with her ear again like she did last night. When did she pick up that habit?
“She said that one of the first things i should do is be honest. I know more about you than you know about me, so...it’s only fair for me to share a little.” Lulu sighed.
“That’s fair, though only fair enough since I don’t remember my past.” Dianne shrugged.
“True,” the buneary mumbled, picking at the fur at the end of her ear. “So, first things first. The name Lulu. It’s technically my nickname that I’ve been going by since I came here. My actual name is Luella.”
“Really?” Dianne tilted her head and thought for a moment. “Luella...it’s a pretty name.”
‘Luella’ held her ear even closer to her face for a couple moments, but Dianne could still see how embarrassed she looked.
“I dont mind being called that now, but I don’t know yet about spreading that out to everyone else.” Lulu adjusted her ear and looked over.
The shiny nodded. “No problem.”
Lulu sighed heavily and finally let go of her ear and she put both paws on the table. “I was born and raised in a village pretty far from here. My parents, they...they know where I am, but I haven’t spoken to them since I left.”
“You never sent them a letter?” Dianne asked.
The buneary shook her head. “No, I never felt the need to do that. I don’t know when exactly, but it must’ve started there. I just...” Lulu glared down at the table and Dianne took a moment to back away an extra inch. “All I could think about was how I wanted to rule over everyone. I wanted to be treated like a queen. I wanted everyone to love me and obey all my commands. Even the legendaries would bow down to me!”
Lulu raised her arms up and slammed them down on the table, causing it to rise a bit off the ground on Dianne’s side for a moment. She was glad she moved away in time.
Her partner continued to glare at the table, her anger growing. “I was planning things out! I almost had this town under my paw! Hermes wouldn’t let me join the guild at first, because I didn’t have a partner and he thought I was too weak. So I sneaked off and trained all on my own! Even though I wanted to be seen as something to protect, I also wanted to show everyone how strong I really was! No one would dare to disrespect me and not just out of fear of my subjects, but my own wrath! I was to be in command of everyone everywhere!”
Lulu finally stopped and began panting, her voice tired from raising it so loud and talking so fast.
Dianne stared at her. While this didn’t surprise her considering her partner’s original outburst, she underestimated just how much anger had been boiled up inside. But it only made sense. Up until that breakdown, she only displayed a cutesy personality all the time. It truly was that it would’ve been a matter of time before she broke.
“When I found you out there,” Lulu continued, a bit calmer now. “And you told me that you were a human, I thought I found my missing piece. Somehow, you were going to help me achieve my goal. Though at first, I was worried that things weren’t going to work out, you weren’t behaving in the way I hoped you would. And everyone wasn’t super fond of you at first. But then we formed our team, we did missions, and things started to click in. They started to like you, they started to respect you. It made sense to me, because you showed them how strong you were and that earned their respect.”
“Wrong,” Dianne interrupted. The buneary flinched and looked up at her. “It wasn’t because I was strong that everyone started to like me. I was...honest. I didn’t lie with my words, I went out and helped other pokemon. It wasn’t physical strength that impressed them so much, I showed them that I did have a strong heart.” She shook her head. “That sounds so cheesy and I hate it, but it’s the truth.”
Lulu stared at her for a moment and then started giggling. “That was cheesy.”
Dianne sighed and placed one paw on the table, partly extending it out towards her partner. “Anyway, you get my point. I honestly think we’re pretty different, but also a bit of the same. I think I understand why I came here.”
The buneary tilted her head curiously.
“To prevent you from becoming an insane ruler of the pokemon world.” Dianne couldn’t help having the smallest sly smirk on her face.
Lulu snorted. “Oh my Arceus, when you put it that way, that’s...” She trailed off and sighed.
“Hey,” Dianne muttered, getting her partner’s attention. “Thanks for sharing with me today, it means a lot. And we’re partners, remember? I’m here for you.”
Lulu seemed to shrink into the floor a little in embarrassment, and glanced down at the shiny’s extended paw before reaching out with her own slowly. “Still? Even after all I said and did? And tried to do?”
Dianne nodded, closing the distance and lightly placing her claws on top of her partner’s paw. “Even after all of that.”
Lulu took a deep breath and looked at her. Dianne could see there was still a long way to go, but perhaps the first obstacle was dealt with.
“Ok.”
