Okay, but now I need everyone who was salty about THW's ending to watch The Nine Realms, it is honestly healing. Because not only is TNR implying that Hiccup and his family came back to this world, but they're also saying that:
They spent a lot of time here, considering that Hiccup has described one of the other realmS further away from where their entrance was.
They had a home amongst dragons.
They were accepted by dragons.
And the other Riders were potentially there as well, considering the fact that Hiccup described all his friends in the same book that described the other realm.
And then there's also this:
Tumblr media
Dragon Club finds Hiccup's prosthetic leg. And both as a disabled man and with how accident prone this man is, he would not just leave a disability aid behind. Not even a spare! Them finding that leg is potentially implying that Hiccup kept coming back, probably stayed at some point, and lived out the rest of his days with his Bud.

Actually, I'm glad (for how the trailer looks) that their going to be separated from the dragons too. It just remarks how weird is THW finale.
The damage made in THW is so irreparable that our species can't have dragons 1,300 years after. Toothless fucking another dragon damaged the storyline in a way not even the actual writers of the weird sequel series can imagine a word where dragons don't need to be hidden. The no-personality-only-"feminitity"-from-a-mans-point-of-view-dragon existence caused enough damage that we can't be happy with dragons nor in reality nor in a fucking show that doesn't even makes sense within it's own franchise
How ironic is that a saga that started with the union of two completely different species because of mutual comprehension and equal treatment ended with said species completely separated, one hidden in a not so great environment with a very delicate balance and the other messing around searching ways to make money about it.
Great message. Capitalism is always on top

"Dean dumbed down the dragons in THW because he wanted to show the effects of domestication."
I've already talked about this, I just have a thing to point out.
...
Have you watched TNR? Have you? Have you?
Have you seen the dragons there?
Why are they all so stupid? Or if not that, dull? Without an ounce of personality? I mean, I complain about the treatment they got from THW on the daily, but holy shit.
They're dumber than any dragon in the HTTYD franchise ever was.
So much for letting dragons "go back to the wild" because, uh, reasons.
Further proof that locking them down in a glorified underground cage was not the best idea.

What was it about THW that made Toothless a flop for you?
I've tossed all sorts of stuff around, so I feel like I'd really be repeating those posts, so I'll just sum it up for simplisity~
-Toothless is a dog in this movie. A horny dog. Not charming compared to the previous two movies.
-Toothless cares about nothing but the Light Fury. There's being in love, and there's being absent from the flock you're supposed to be guarding to go off on some date while your best friend is being left behind to fight the villain.
-Is Toothless an intelligent animal that understands humor, a hostage situation, high speed adaptation to human society, morality, and understanding humans almost on a human level or is he an instinct-driven animal and nothing more? We may never know because HTTYD preached the first half while THW was stuck on the latter unless plot device.
-Toothless gets this redundant super-power to go invisible for...reasons? Like, the Light Fury can't have anything original to her, Toothless MUST have it too because what originally made him unique is now absent and thus something has to be going for him, I guess.
-The dragons don't leave because they're safer in THW. Let's face it, the dragons leave because Toothless wants to be with the Light Fury and rule THW and since he's Berks' alpha, the Berkian dragons really have no say in it. The separation felt more like it was for Toothless, not all dragons.
-Toothless hardly even glances at Hiccup in this movie. His interactions with literally anything else not girlfriend material is actually at 0. Cloudjumper that Toothless just thought was the coolest new friend in HTTYD 2? Who's that? Who cares, new girlfriend.
Toothless getting a girlfriend isn't the issue. The issue is that apparently you can only have a best friend OR a girlfriend. Can't have both. I mean, just look at Hiccup. As soon as Astrid came onto the scene with that kiss after the romantic flight, Hiccup forgot about the rest of the gang for the rest of the movie and Toothless was forced to face Stoick alone until the very end where Hiccup suddenly learned how to be a warrior just a powerful as Astrid and saved the day. The pair then went their ways since Hiccup belongs on Berk where all humans true home is and Toothless can go somewhere else because one day the world will be ready for humans if you sit around and hope instead of educating others and fighting for it.
Yeah, lol, so basically for that last point, it was all about the fact that everything HTTYD stood for with Toothless being a major focal point is tossed to the side. I'm not against separation because it's for the best for all parties involved, but THW is NOT the movie that did that good and instead just made Toothless super unlikable and OOC to make it work. Want a good movie for that? (possible spoiler??) then watch The Wild Robot. Much better.

Anyway if you don’t mind some childish writing I recommend the HTTYD books. I can’t tell you the themes bc that’d include spoilers but they go a lot deeper than the movies. Also THW can burn that movie sucks.
I’m glad I got into the movie before the books with HTTYD cuz otherwise I would’ve also been insufferable about the movie but ultimately it’s a very different situation from ML given ML is a case where both the movie and series follow the same overarching plot whereas HTTYD movies and books followed completely different plots and themes
Anyway the ML movie did the story and main characters better

A HTTYD 3 AU
@hiccup-is-left-handed did a thing (which I cannot link because mobile) and I really don’t wanna hijack their post but credit where credit is due ok? Ok.
This got way out of hand, I apologize for the long post… Idk how to put it under a read more on mobile, heh <3
So. The Hidden World AU where Toothless and the Light Fury are friends/“just like me” sort of situation + Hiccup is the one captured:
• That add on where the beginning was dark and grimy, yes. • The Grimmel scene happens between him and a fallen drago. Drago desperately needs a new Alpha to control his dragon army, so he enlists Grimmel. • The Light Fury in the cage is not in fact our LF girl, but a young male, about Toothless’ age in HTTYD 1 • Grimmel’s comment about him is around the line of “Furies are social creatures”, so through that line we learn that Toothless would in fact crave a “pack” (I keep calling a group of furies a pack bear with me), except he doesn’t really know that yet.
• Toothless meeting this equivalent of yearling male would go the same way except the dynamic would be (as hiccup-is-left-handed mentioned) similar to spiderverse’s “you’re like me”– a connection but not a romantic one
• Grimmel would still attack Hiccup’s home, but his deathgrippers actually torch down a good deal of the village • Because of the grimy beginning we see this is just another attack and Berk’s people have been suffering (injuries, slings and stuff in the great hall scene) • a bigger deal is made out of them leaving, there’s probably a scene where Hiccup is sitting next to his father’s statue after the meeting and talking to it, asking for advice • Astrid comforts Hiccup there– you’d have time for this since we’d cut most of the Hesitant To Get Married subplot, it’s in fact treated as something to happen someday in the future but both agree with the current situation it’s best to postpone it • or maybe Valka, since because we’re removing the marriage subplot, she could still get One Good Scene with Hiccup. It would still be a little stiff between them, since she’s still relatively new at this mom thing, but they both try. It’s up to you. Either way, Hiccup is convinced they must leave now. • Personally, because I’m a nerd, I’d make the beginning of the scene about Hiccup telling one of them (Valka or Astrid, your call), about how when he were little he always wanted the glory, and to be a Hero to his tribe… But he has so many difficult choices to make and it’s hard. And Valka/Astrid comments that yes, indeed, some people win glory “easily”, how Hiccup would have gotten had he killed that Night Fury, others… Well, others like him need to become Heroes the Hard Way <3 • Probably a scene of the Berkians sadly looking back to their old island and and then forward to their new future
• The yearling doesn’t go back for Toothless, but (in Nova Berk) Toothless does pick up his scent and follows him to that beachy area Toothless tries to woo the LF in the actual movie • There we find out the yearling male has a sibling, a sister, and THAT would be our girl. He calls out to the mountains and she appears and makes a huge fuss about him being back (which gives them both some nice personalities as well as showing their devotion to each other)
• Toothless is in fact attracted to her, but it’s a very minor thing in the grand scheme of him meeting others like him • Toothless tries to join them, and like in the movie Hiccup tries to coach him through befriending these dragons which are so like him • LF girl still gets offended, Toothless still falls down from the tree. yearling LF is very amused at this but also very curious about the branch, so he picks it up and starts playing with it in a rather catlike fashion • Toothless decides to show them how HE plays with the branch, so he picks it up and starts drawing • It’s no big fancy drawing, just his usual scribbles, but both siblings are very intrigued and impressed by it • Toothless still growls at the LF when she tries to step on it, and she growls back (they do NOT get started on the best terms despite Toothless’ original attraction– it could even be read as him just being curious about the fact that she’s a female), but the young male does get it, so he hops around the lines like Hiccup did, grabs the stick and flies away • Following her brother’s example, the LF tries to get to Toothless by hopping around the scribbly lines • We’d get a similar scene to Hiccup hitting his back on toothless and looking up at him, except the LF just gazes at him and Toothless smiles a little at her • She in turn tried to copy his facial expression and smiles as well, and it’s -then- that they click • The siblings still find Hiccup, but Toothless stands between them and his friend so they just choose to leave instead • Toothless still falls on the water trying to follow them but he doesn’t glare at his lack of tail, just looks longingly up at them
• Hiccup does NOT make a new tailfin right away for Toothless. Instead, we get a very “See You Tomorrow” montage, except it’s with Toothless going between the dragons and Hiccup, and each time he learns something new about himself • You could also show Hiccup looking a bit down/feeling left off during this montage, but trying to be happy for Toothless • Eventually, Hiccup decides to make the new tailfin. The scene would go basically the same way except there’s a bigger moment for Toothless not wanting to leave Hiccup, he smells the old saddle and Hiccup comforts him, saying it’s okay. He would have explained to astrid the reason why he made the new tail is not cause Toothless “never had a reason to leave”, it’s just cause Toothless is discovering a new side of him and Hiccup wants him to be happy
• the “third date” scene would be mostly be a platonic scene between the three furies, where Toothless learns to harness lightning • The difference would be the young male gets separated from them for a bit, chasing after some bird or something (he’s young and excitable, also a personality point for him) • You’d then get a smaller version of a romantic scene, but you can clearly see that after that wrong first impression the LF and Toothless do seem to like each other. Still would get the scene of them flying up into the moon and Toothless kissing her, and the “wing holding”. That was cute, and I like that scene, but the romance would still be comparatively secondary • The young male would interrupt the “hand holding”, and that’s where they’d find the hidden world. Male goes in excitedly and toothless hesitates but LF cheerfully drags him down after her brother
• The Hiccup side of it remains the same. They go after Grimmel, there’s an emphasis on all the anti-dragon humans banding together to take down berk. • Grimmel’s villain speech gets a flashback in which we get a scene more akin to the one of the first Dragons movie, there’s a slight discrepancy compared to Grimmel’s words. In the flashback, Grimmel -hesitates- before killing a wounded, sleeping night fury (it could even be faking its sleep, kinda like how Toothless just closed his eyes and waited for death, but that might be too much for a kid’s movie), but eventually does kill it • All the riders make it out of Grimmel’s trap.
• Hiccup and Astrid still go after Toothless • the Hidden World scene is expanded upon. We actually get two things that Hiccup sees: one (and this is optional but a personal headcanon of mine) being the LF siblings introducing Toothless to small, wary, scarred group of night furies (complete with Hiccup’s awe at finding more of them but also his realization that HUMANS did that to those dragons, they’re scarred and crippled because of them) • The other would be that Toothless doesn’t have the time to meet them properly, he gets distracted by squabble between two groups of wild dragons over food. Toothless instinctively uses his alpha command to take one of the groups to another feeding location, avoiding a fight. • The dragons recognize Toothless as a benevolent Alpha, and bow to him. It’s then that Astrid says that “now that’s a king” line.
• Hiccup chooses to leave Toothless there (the shock and pain of the Night Fury survivors being a factor of Hiccup deciding Toothless is better off without him, and besides, we’ve been building up on that “Toothless prefers his new friends over me” issue Hiccup is dealing with) • The whole rumblehorn thing happens and Toothless still brings Hiccup home, but Toothless isn’t angry or anything. The two light Furies do follow them. Seeing them actually only hardens Hiccup’s resolve, and he essentially kicks Toothless out, but he’s lashing out out of hurt, worry, rejection, and overall being overwhelmed by his duties as a Chief (namely the very large group of vikings bent on destroying Berk due to their philosophy) and his love and worry for Toothless • Toothless does leave, looking hurt but he does. • Astrid tries to comfort Hiccup again, but this time he just wants to be alone. Once she leaves, Hiccup mourns a little, but then he’s suddenly shot with one of Grimmel's darts. Astrid sees him be taken, but it’s too late to rescue him
• Hiccup wakes up in a ship of the armada his mother had seen on Cloudjumper, and is surprised in a very angry way to see Drago there (we hadn’t seen him since the moment he lashes at Grimmel for letting the Berkians get away– but he does so in a logical and tactical way) • Drago wants the location of the Hidden World – something he probably got from Grimmel who overheard it during the raid on his lair – and he plans to use Hiccup for it • Remember when Hiccup was called a devil in the beginning of the movie? This scene would get its payback here!! In a very clear parallel to Dragons 1, Drago would shackle Hiccup and sail east, and in a very Stoick-esque way, tells him to “lead the way, [to the nest], little devil” • Y'know like what happened to Toothless in HTTYD 1
• Cut to Toothless in the Hidden World. He’s looking at his tail, rather forlorn and lost • The Lightfury comes to see him, looking rather affectionate- they’re a couple, it seems. Toothless looks to her and then to behind him, where the other Light/Night furies (and some other dragons in the background) are waiting for him • Toothless isn’t ready yet. He licks the LF (think of a “I have to” kiss on the cheek Hiccup gave Astrid in HTTYD 2), and flies towards the waterfall and out of the hidden world, back to Hiccup.
• Drago is sailing towards the general direction of the hidden world, guided by the direction Toothless flew off before he captured Hiccup • Hiccup is unable to free himself, but then he (and the antagonists) is surprised to see that Berk is flying towards the armada to free him, en masse. All seem determined to defend the Hidden World’s entrance from Drago’s fleet • It’s a nice shout out to both HTTYD 1, where that small team fought the read death, but also to how the vikings have changed, how Hiccup has changed them. A small team has become a whole village. • no one can quite get to Hiccup tho, but then Drago is surprised to find Toothless there, looking very very angry • Grimmel still threatens someone Toothless loves, but it’s Hiccup this time. For a brief moment, Toothless controls the dragons away from the fight, so Hiccup isn’t killed. Toothless cannot let Hiccup die. He can’t. He loves him too much. • Drago and Grimmel however, are distracted long enough for Toothless to grab Hiccup and flee– not by humans but by the whole group of light and night furies. It seems as though Furies are a very territorial species, and act as protectors of the hidden world.
• Grimmel still grabs the LF, Toothless still follows him with Hiccup. The whole thing that went down in the movie happens here. Grimmel dies. Toothless is rescued by the young, excitable LF Male, while our girl, who has always been more distrustful of Hiccup, saves his life. She does smile crookedly at him, that very Toothless smile she learned from him.
• Drago is still out there, though. Hiccup, Toothless and the dragon gang regroup while most of Berk still fights. Hiccup is alive, but feels lost, he always wanted to prevent a war and now a war has happened anyway • This is where Astrid comes in again, and where she repeats that “what are you going to do about it” line • The gang goes after drago– and surprise: Hiccup is using the old saddle, but Toothless still wears the new tailfin, one last big fight for the two of them: this time, while they’re still connected, they’re able to fight apart from each other– maybe it’s here that we get that sword/explosion/look between Hiccup and Astrid. Toothless is flying on his own, and Hiccup is fighting on his own as well. By mutual choice this time, knowing how their differences don’t affect their devotion to each other • The furies fight alongside Hiccup, Toothless and the Berkians, showing the beauty of cooperation and mutual respect between humans and dragons that do decide to work together… As well as allowing Hiccup one big flight with Toothless and other night furies, as was his dream for his friend. • Drago is defeated, and the army scatters (how it’s up to you, I’m still fond of the jailed idea, except Drago falls under water and drowns, or something. Idk. For a man who’s so determined to control and dominate, dying in a cage designed to control and rip freedom away would be pretty good poetic justice, but idk.)
• Hiccup and Toothless still part ways. Hiccup’s speech isn’t really about how his dream wasn’t the dragons’ dream. Instead, much like the books, he says that Humanity isn’t quite ready to share the world with them, and that Toothless needs to take them away for their own safety (basically the same message of the movie but sans the weird “hiccup is clinging to toothless” subplot.) • That heart-wrenching scene still happens pretty much the same way.
• The ending is also very much the same, the babies and stuff. We’d probably see more light furies and one or two night furies on the other rocks surrounding the hidden world– they still act as protectors. • the ending goes very much the same way: I’d just tweak the words a little to explain that this isn’t just about hiding the hidden world’s secret (though you do see that in a way, Hiccup and Berk = the Furies’ role, all are guardians of the Hidden World, kinda binding them together even if they are away), but also about spreading the message that one day humans and dragons (wildlife?) can coexist someday, and when We’re ready, the Dragons will one day return.
— ……. Well that was long. I’ve been furiously typing on my phone for a good hour and a half actually. My fingers are dead but I just love this idea so much.
Also very much Not Revised so forgive any grammar/spelling mistakes!
Sorry for like. Making this way too big, Hiccup-is-left-handed. I got way too excited about it :’D

Hoppípolla
Summary: Hiccup is a semi-stressed out chief and Nuffink is just a hyper active ball of energy wanting to play in some rain puddles with his Dad - Takes place a year before the epilogue in httyd 3 and is based off of a Sigur Rós song.
Imma be real with you chief - this is 100% unapologetic fluff, written purely for the reason that I just needed some more fluffy fics about the Haddock family in my life and decided to provide some myself no matter how badly written or rusty my fanfic writing skills are 🤷🏻‍♀️
Also forgive me if it seems a bit unpolished or kind of rushed, I’ve been trying to get this done for weeks and yesterday I finally put my foot down and decided I was going to finish it this week, and I managed to wrap it all up this evening. I’m also lowkey drugged up on medication atm so I wrote the last paragraph and edited the entire thing through half lidded eyes, so if you see a spelling mistake, that’s probably why.
Anyway I could make up excuses about my writing and keep putting off posting this all day but I’m going to stfu now - I hope you like it!
“So you have all the plans? Nothing else you need or-” “I’ve got everything I need to start right here” Fishlegs patted the scrolls “I promise you’ve got nothing to worry about chief, I’ve got it all under control” “right” Hiccup sighed a little, another weight off his shoulders “great, thank you”.
A passing storm had done some wreckage to a few houses and whatnot and everyone else had been preoccupied with their own reconstructions, the chief being left with the bulk of it all, but his council members had been willing to help out and for that he couldn’t be more grateful.
Nuffink was sat down fidgeting with the hem of his oversized tunic, swinging his legs on a chair ten times too big for him in the Ingerman’s living room, it wasn’t an anomaly for the chief and chieftess to bring the kids on errands with them and at this point Zephyr and Nuffink were fully accustomed to it. That didn’t stop them from being boring sometimes though, especially when the rain had calmed down and there were over a hundred puddles outside with his name on them. “Nuffink?” Hiccup called from the door “we’re done now!” the little boy perked up and slid down from the seat, running to the to meet his father who picked him up and rested him on his hip “now what do we say?” he asked him as they stepped outside. Nuffink looked blank for a second “umm- oh, thank you for letting me sit in your house Uncle Fishlegs”
“Awwww the pleasure is all mine little guy” Fishlegs cooed “you’re welcome round any time” “thank you again” Hiccup said “they just grow up so fast don’t they?” the ingerman carried on “Little kids, I swear he was getting carried around like a baby not that long ago” he said a little tearily “… you okay there?” “yep!” he answered too quickly and rubbed at his eyes “it’s the humidity… because of the rain, and allergy seasons coming...  makes my eyes misty” he shuffled awkwardly for a second before quickly turning on his heel and going back inside “see you around chief!” he didn’t wait for a response as he shut the front door hastily behind him.
“Well” Hiccup looked at his son with a smile and Nuffink showed off his own toothy little grin “guess we’re heading home now bud” Hiccup moved to start walking down the steps but Nuffink wriggled around in protest “I want to walk!” he insisted “okay okay” his dad chuckled and put him down “hold my hand while we walk down the stairs though, yeah?” he offered his hand and Nuffink instinctively took hold of it - just one of the upsides to having such a cuddly child “don’t want you to faceplant in the floor again” Hiccup mumbled under his breath cringing a little at the memory - stairs had never been such a menace.
He kept his eye on his son as they walked carefully down the slippery stone steps, the little boy walking one at a time and looking intently at the big rain puddle at the bottom. Hiccup grinned “big step down here buddy, you’ll have to jump!” Nuffink’s face lit up instantly and Hiccup kept hold of his hand, helping him jump up a little higher so he splashed down hard into the puddle, making him giggle in delight. He let go of his father’s hand and ran ahead, splashing around in all the massive rain puddles the small storm had left behind, the actual rain now just mere droplets so he didn’t need to worry about the boy catching a cold.
The two stayed that way for a while, Nuffink running ahead and splashing in all the puddles before him, his dad not too far behind with a small smile on his face that he couldn’t contain.
Maybe it was just because he was still a relatively new parent, only 5 years in the game and whatnot - but Nuffink although a little quiet, was an adventurous and turbulent kid, and seeing his offspring so joyful and carefree made him ridiculously happy. “Daddy!” the 3 year old snapped him from his thoughts and tugged on his sleeve, pulling him as best as he could towards the small pools of water ahead of them “oh no, no can do buddy” Hiccup pulled back a little and laughed awkwardly - he always tried to deny it when his wife, or his friends, or his village accused it of being so, but he had to admit he really hated to say no to either of his children.
Nuffink cocked his eyebrow, puzzled “why?”
“Because I could hurt myself”
“Why?”
Hiccup knelt down to his level and pointed at his prosthetic “because of my leg, you know my fake leg?” Nuffink nodded knowingly “It’s metal see” Hiccup gave it a knock to prove his point “so it makes it easier for me to slip-” “I won’t let you slip!” he insisted and took a tight hold of his father’s hand, pulling him along. The chief nearly fell forward on his face but caught himself last minute, walking hunched over at a low level as his youngest child dragged him onwards “I’ll hold your hand daddy and you won’t fall!” “Nuffink!” Hiccup tried to sound firm but laughed heartily instead, great job Hiccup, very disciplinary, he thought. Without warning the toddler gave him another tug and pulled his father into one of the multiple shallow puddles on their path home. Before his dad could get in a word of protest Nuffink grabbed at his free hand, jumping up and down. Hiccup sighed, though truthfully he had no intention of not indulging him, he took a slightly tighter hold of his hands as he raised him up and let him drop back down with an almighty splash “Again!” his son kept demanding eagerly grinning “Okay! Up again!” Hiccup obliged everytime and lifted him up. One time he lifted him with a bit more gusto, and dropped him down hard sending water up in both their faces making Nuffink laugh and wipe at his face with his hands.
Hiccup forgot that it was his son that was the small support that kept him in one place as he took a step forward, accidentally placed his prosthetic on a small rock in the floor and slipped, landing on his backside in the water cursing and making his son laugh even harder. “Oh it’s funny is it? my pain is funny to you?” He joked as he moved onto his knees and Nuffink giggled “it is?!” Hiccup said in pretend shock and the young boy shrieked in laughter “oh my gods, of all people, my own son!” he dramatised “the betrayal!”
Nuffink pulled at his arm “stoooppp” he whined guiltily “I’m sorry” “Buddy I’m just joking” He smiled reassuringly and ruffled the boys dampened hair “okay” his son was unable to hide the mischievous smirk on his face before completely splashing his father in the face and running off “what- you tricked me!” Hiccup said in disbelief, albeit a little impressed. Oh yeah, he’s his mother’s son. He gathered himself and set off in a careful run so he wouldn’t slip, and tried to catch up to him, the two laughing ridiculously. They carried on like that for what felt like nowhere near enough time, messing around in the rain puddles, Hiccup enjoying it almost as much as his son, but more because he was spending time with his child and less because he enjoyed getting splashed in the face with cold water.
Every time there was a long puddle Nuffink ran straight at it and went sliding on his tummy, his dad only a pace behind him ready to help him up so the little boy could set off looking for more. Whenever Hiccup thought he was going to slip and fall again he’d slide to the ground on his knees before his prosthetic got its chance, Nuffink took to habit of using this opportunity to kick a bit of water at him and even though it barely reached him, Hiccup would act appalled, get up and catch him by his arms and swing him around, his boots skimming the water on the ground and the boy screaming in delight.
His father couldn’t wipe the stupid smile off of his face, it’d probably been the most relaxed  and happy he’d felt in a while - although the storm was passing, it was a big one and probably wouldn’t die out for another few days or so if the elder was right, and she was always right. The thought gave the young chief a migraine, he hated to admit it, it felt like admitting defeat in a way, but the workload seemed to pile up easy for him so easy these days and he’d be lying if he said it never got on top of him.
Then ironically enough, it was the thing that should have been one of the most stress-inducing things that turned out to be a source of relief. Zephyr and Nuffink. Not even just playing, but spending time with and being around his children made him feel like he himself was a young boy - spending time with his own father… it dwindled as he got older, the war between dragon and viking taking its toll. They grew apart. From the minute Hiccup found out he was going to become a father with his first he had had been slightly fearful of history repeating itself, but hearing his youngest laugh and watching him look up at him with those familiar green eyes made him 100% certain of one thing. He would never let that happen, not in a million years.
He shook his head and scoffed at himself. Thor almighty, he was turning way too soft.
The wind started to pick up - it blew by not too bad but enough to make Hiccup and the boy shiver in their drenched clothes. Hiccup looked up at the sky and saw the storm clouds getting darker, covering up the what would’ve been a nice sunset. He grimaced, more bad weather meant more damage to occur and more work to be done, though the toddler’s sniffling snapped him back to his current situation. Nuffink’s clothes were entirely soaked through, his boots making funny sounding squelching noises as he walked and his long-ish blonde hair hung dripping down his face.
Hiccup stopped and knelt down to try sort him out a bit, he brushed his hair back with his fingers so it didn’t hang over his eyes and tried to wring out the bottom of his tunic best he could without taking it off him and making the poor bugger shiver any more then he was.
Nuffink wasn’t one to complain too much, he was a relatively well behaved child, but the look of discomfort on his face at being wet and cold was unmistakable, the puddles suddenly seeming a lot less appealing then his warm comfortable house. “I think we better hurry on home now bud” his dad noted as the rain started again. Hiccup took off the fur chiefs cloak he wore and wrapped it snug around Nuffink before picking him up to carry him -  it was so big on him it hung down by such a margin that if you looked from a distance you would think he were carrying a baby “better not catch a cold eh?”
The chief picked up the pace, sticking to the dry bits of grass as the rain picked up and came down heavier, fortunately the bulk of the storm only kicking in once they finally entered the Haddock household.
Zephyr was sat at the table, drawing something in one of her many little notebooks, whilst Astrid tended to dinner, which by the look of their seemingly clean little kitchen area, must have been prepared by somebody else (thank odin). The boys presence became known when Hiccup shut the door behind him hastily before any rain could fly in, Zephyr looked up from her drawing and laughed a little at the sight of them “aha! Momma look! They’re all wet!” the girls mother turned around and stared a little
Astrid stood back, taking in the sopping wet mess before her, hands on her hips looking them both up in down in question “what in Thor’s name have you two been doing?” Nuffink tugged on one of his dad’s braids as he nuzzled his head into the crook of his shoulder, tired from his days ventures. Hiccup looked at Astrid with a daft grin “puddle hopping”.

Following up on the Southern Night Fury is the second dragon we’re adding to Exodus: the Light Fury! Or, more accurately, the Light Fury 2.0. I decided to give them a proper revamp after it was revealed that the Light Fury’s one special ability wasn’t so special after all. I wanted to make them more unique and interesting, so here we go!
For the Light Fury, I decided to go an arctic/aquatic route - built for cold waters and life on the ice.
SPECIES NAME: Light Fury
CLASS: Strike
FIRE TYPE: Plasma blasts, freezing cold brine
FEATURES: Bulky features, smooth skin and ultra-fine scales, cartiligious fins, long paddle-like tail, gills, serrated claws, retractable teeth
HABITAT: Arctic glaciers/ice caps; ideally anywhere freezing cold and near the ocean
COLORS: Base coat of white with a massive variety of blue hues, often darkest on the back and outside of wings and lighter on the belly/sides. Boasts a plethora of tigerlike stripes in a number of hues of blue. Icy-blue eyes, can be anywhere between nearly white and deep abyssal blue. Scales sparkle like snow.
SIZE: Medium, around the size of a large cat like lions. Physically shorter than Northerns and Southerns, but have far more bulk
TRAINABLE: Yes, with effort

Firepower: 14
Shot Limit: 6
Venom: 0
Jaw Strength: 5
Stealth: 15
-------
ABILITIES
Water-Breathing: Unlike the other species of Fury, Light Furies are uniquely adapted to an aquatic climate. Situated for freezing temperatures and plenty of time under the waves, not only do they have a thick layer of blubber and blue-colored blood (on account of being loaded with antifreeze), but their biggest adaptation is of gills. This allows them to remain underwater indefinitely, so long as there’s enough oxygen around.
Additionally, they possess a number of cartilaginous fins and streamlined features to help them swim through the water. Their long, thick tail is meant to behave as a paddle, and is capable of snapping bone when used as a weapon. When swimming, they often tuck their limbs against themselves and use their wings to propel themselves forward. When in need of an extra boost, they cocoon themselves within their wings and use their entire body and tail to press forward, like a porpoise.
When over water, their gills secrete a fine mucus that seals them shut within a few minutes, protecting them from injury or cold. The mucus dissolves immediately upon contact with liquid. Light Furies will not appreciate it if you try to prove this by dumping water on them.
Snap-Freezing Brine: In the below-zero temperatures of arctic waters, the ocean is saturated with melting freshwater from glaciers and icebergs. Brine, a type of water that is positively teeming with salt, has a much lower freezing point than the chilly arctic water. In the wild, sinking columns of frigid brine are so cold that they freeze the normal water around them as they descend to the ocean floor, creating lowering icicles called brinicles that freeze anything they touch in an instant, from fish to crabs to sea urchins.
Light Furies have a similar adaptation. They are capable of creating and storing brine in a large throat organ, where it is kept at freezing temperatures regardless of the heat from the outside world. Light Furies are capable of spitting this brine for up to thirty feet. In their natural habitat, this will freeze any water it touches, successfully snap-freezing prey and making for an easy snack.
This comes with its limitations, though. It won’t work in warmer waters, and it can’t freeze in open air unless there’s a significant amount of fog or rain in the area. In air, it’s nothing more than a column of high-pressure water, which is good for soaking opponents and perhaps giving them a startle, but not much else.
Cloaking: Like the Northern and Southern Night Furies, Light Furies are capable of superheating their scales to make them temporarily mirror-like to vanish amongst the clouds. Light Furies are the ones who are most in need of this ability, as their vibrant white-and-blue patterning will often give them away otherwise. They are capable of remaining in this state for several minutes, depending on the temperature of the outside world and thusly how fast they cool down. Their cloaking ability does not work underwater, as the heat dissipates away almost immediately.
Bioluminescence: Like all dragons, Light Furies will glow with extensive bioluminescent patterns under the light of the Hidden World. However, the Hidden World isn’t the only place these patterns show up: Light Furies have hidden stripes all along their bodies that they can make glow at will for an indefinite amount of time. They typically use this ability when in deep waters or on long northern nights, so as to not lose one another in the dark.
Firepower: Light Furies show a similar propensity for plasma blasts as their distant cousin, the Northern Night Fury. Like Northerns, they have strong plasma blasts and have been shown to exert some amount of control over when their blast detonates. Like Southerns, though, they have a strict shot limit. They show the unique ability of being able to ignite their fire even when their head is wet - likely an adaptation on account of their aquatic lifestyle.
Agility and Speed: Like any Fury, Light Furies are remarkably fast and agile in the air. They have the smallest wings and tailfins of any of the Furies, allowing for ultra-sharp turns and midair acrobatics, but this greatly stunts their ability to soar for long periods of time. Of the Furies, Light Furies typically weigh the most, as they have thick layers of blubber to help combat the arctic chill. This makes them arguably the weakest fliers of the bunch. Make no mistake, though - they’re still formidable in the air.
Strength and Combat: Aside from plasma blasts and serrated claws for gripping to ice, Light Furies don’t have anything going for them in the combat department that other Furies don’t have too. Their scales are the flimsiest of any Fury and can be cut through easily with the proper application of force, and they are often wildly elusive, fleeing a battle before any sort of harm comes to them. To this end, they are the weakest fighters of the Furies, and are easily taken down if they can be caught.
Stamina and Endurance: Light Furies are not built for long-distance flights or swims, but they are excellent at surviving without sustenance, even out-gaming the Southern Night Fury. In the long winters, where prey is not abundant, they can curl up and enter a hibernation-like state where they can go without food or water for up to three months at a time. Their resistance to cold temperatures is equally legendary, with a combination of antifreeze blood, blubber, slowly burning plasma for extra heat, and huddling together.
Senses: Despite their awfully small ears, the Light Fury’s primary sense is that of hearing. They have an excellent ability to echolocate, which is often used to find prey within murky waters and navigate icy landscapes in the pitch darkness of night. Their eyesight is quite impressive as well, able to pick up on movement from over a mile away, and their sense of touch is the best of any Fury’s on account of their thin scales. Their sense of smell is a little lacking, and their sense of taste is nothing remarkable.
Intelligence: Like any Fury - or any Strike Class dragon, for that matter - Light Furies are remarkably bright, and can solve puzzles, recognize faces, and follow commands, as well as strategize amongst themselves. They are a very social species, coming together in groups called pods. They each have their own unique personalities.
--------
BEHAVIOR AND PERSONALITY
Light Furies are highly elusive creatures, remaining in the frigid northern wastes where almost no human bothers to tread. They are quite independent, and a pod follows no set social structure. A pod typically contains between two and thirty members, with no designated leaders or followers, and members of the pod may join or leave it at any time. Light Furies depend on this for protection: as a species that lacks tough scales or razor-sharp fangs, there is safety in numbers. A pod provides protection, heat, company, and food.
Light Furies have no set home. While they can certainly tunnel within ice, the most elaborate structures they make are single-chamber communal caves to wait out blizzards in. The impermanence of ice seems to echo throughout the entirety of their lives - everything melts eventually, even the grandest of habitats, and so they flit from place to place and pod to pod as their whims decide.
It is equally as common to see a Light Fury living alone as it is to see them in a pod. Sometimes, they prefer to be on their own, especially if they have recently entered adulthood and left their parent’s pod. They are capable of functioning just fine during both night and day. Each individual has their own preference about hunting times, though the species as a whole leans on the diurnal side.
As is typical for any Strike Class dragon, especially one who is so often individualistic, Light Furies are wildly varied in their personalities and preferences. They tend to be very shy and curious, especially as most of them have been raised in a practically sterile environment, free of the scourge of humans, and so they have not grown to see humans as dangerous.
----------
WEAKNESSES
Though their tailfins are their main weak spot, harming or destroying them will not inhibit them as much as it would another type of Fury. It will certainly make them slower in the water, but so long as their body is intact, they will still be capable of swimming, which is often enough for them to survive just fine. Their biggest weakness would likely be their cowardice. Light Furies do not like confrontation, and without the support of a pod, they will often flee far before so much as a scratch can land upon their scales. Their snap-freezing brine is an ineffective weapon, and their paper-thin scales all but make them crumple under the first blow.
----------
TRAINING
A wild Light Fury is difficult to train, not only because they’re fickle and shy, but also because they are so used to forming bonds and straying away for long periods of time. Light Furies do form deep pack bonds, and regularly express affection towards their fellow pod-mates. However, this dynamic is a bit different than a human’s: Light Furies are expected to eventually feel the call to travel somewhere else, and may leave a pod for years at a time. When they return, they are often greeted warmly, as though they had never been gone at all.
This is a frustrating habit for a trainer to work with. A would-be trainer could very potentially find themselves devastated when their friend of many years vanishes into the blue, and doesn’t return until many seasons later. Of course, to even get to this point, the Light Fury must be trained already - a task that is no small feat.
Like most dragons, Light Furies are best trained from the egg. They do not imprint on anybody, but rather recognize their parents by their scents, sounds (Light Furies emit calls and coos similar to porpoises when underwater for long-distance communications, and have been shown to have unique names for one another) and bioluminescent markings. A trainer would be recognized similarly. Most curiously, Light Furies are incredibly quick to pick up on their given name, and respond to it with ease.
Light Fury eggs are laid in large clutches of six to ten, with the expectation that only about half of them will survive ‘til hatching. Their eggs have a thin orange lining that shows the developing hatchling within, and the bright colors advertise the egg as a quick snack to any predators passing by. Like penguins, Light Furies will curl around their eggs for the several months it takes them to hatch, providing warmth and protection. The rest of the Fury’s pod will often provide the mother with food and company.
If an egg is abducted for the sake of training the hatchling, it must be kept within a very specific temperature range to hatch - above freezing, but far below most average southern-going temperatures. The egg’s health can often be determined by the hue of the eggshell, which is a bright orange when healthy and slowly fades to deep, withering purple as it gets sicker. An egg that so much as dips into the purple-pink territory will often produce a hatchling with severe defects, making incubating the egg a grueling and demanding task.

Just a Thought
So HTTYD is trying to tell me that, in the what 9 years? That Berk has had dragons - Hiccup and his crew or maybe some other Berkians never found The Hidden World? When it was approximately a day and a half's flight away?
I mean think about it, the fled Berk sometime at night, found New Berk sometime during or close to sun down the same day. Then Toothless, Hiccup, Astrid, and Stormfly were able to take approximately a half days journey (At most) and stumble uppon the hidden world.
It would have taken them at the most 36 to 48 hours to get to The Hidden World from Berk.
And HTTYD is telling me that in all the years of Hiccup and his father searching they never found it???

Someone reminded me of the fact that Hiccup "canonically" thinks the world is flat.
H.... Hiccup... Mr.... Mr. Unorthodox Thinker... Whose ideas makes people uncomfortable... thinks the world is flat.

you know what’s funny? TNR is supposed to take place in the modern day, but the modern day, the 2020s, are a thousand years after the Viking age, give or take. Not a thousand three hundred.
So if the show takes place 1300 years after the third movie, and it isn’t set in the 2300s, that kind of implies the dragons disappearing set progress back for three hundred years. Idk how exactly, but yeah.
Or we can just chalk it up to the writers being incapable of research, as usual, or unable to use a calculator. Either way works for me!
Also I think at this point we have to accept that the real Hiccup was killed off screen and replaced by a stupider doppelgänger. TNR Hiccup locked Jormungandr up for over a thousand years, somehow, instead of just killing the dragon-eating dragon like in HTTYD1.
If TNR is to be considered canon, as in yes, this is actually what happened 1300 years after THW, then my point is made for me. My work here is done. I've nothing more to say, the show did it all for me.
The Nine Realms is concrete proof that Hiccup's plan sucked ass.
