Okay why was this change added? I personally love and prefer him being a plantigrade because:
It makes him look even more streamlined in flight and makes sense for divebombing.
They look much more sturdier for heavy landings, especially on rough terrains such as and around Berk being a rocky and mountainous land.
Literally makes him and the other dragons in the franchise much more unique in design. Like tell me, what other dragons from different franchise have talons designed that way? They’re very similar to a tortoise or crocodiles.
Besides the remake being completely unnecessary as a whole, this design change was as well. Like whyyyyy?

they made him digitigrade noooooooooooooooo 😭😭😭

"I am the x3 twue King of the x3 Wiwdewwest," sneered *twerks* Alvin, "and I do nyot duew with wunts. teww ;;w;; you what though, wunt. But furious though he was, Fishlegs could not do it. The temper left him, and he drooped sadly. Alvin leaned forward and poked his iron mask in Fishlegs's face. "You see," purred Alvin "A >w< T-Tweachewous c-couwd that. >w< You awe nyot a Tweachewous, *twerks* you Nyo-Nyamed accident.^-^" Alvin turned his back on Fishlegs with a contemptuous swirl of his cloak, striding off to look for the Jewel.

I can't help but realize that the gate to Jörmungandr's prison took a long time to make.
Tumblr media
Like... look at this thing. Look at the tiny Dragon Club in the bottom right corner. Look at them compared to the gate Hiccup and the Dragon Riders put there!
This thing took weeks if not months to construct. Between engraving the warning into the wood, (just one rune is roughly the size of a person) finding the trees necessary for the wooden parts, transporting them this deeply into the Dark realm... And then finding plus melting and forging all the metal parts of this thing, (including giant nails to keep it together and whatnot) transporting all that metal deep within, actually constructing the gate then putting the entire thing together... And then there is the locking mechanism designed specifically for Night Furies to open. It had to be both human and dragon-proof... and they had to do all of this with the red dragonsite's gasses poisoning them with each trip there and back, tearing down their serotonin levels, causing depression and anger on top of the stress of knowing there's a dragon like Jörmungandr out there.
This thing had to have been made before he was caught and imprisoned. There would've been no time to build it after his defeat.
That has to mean that, first trouble had to be brewing enough for Hiccup to find out something was extremely wrong. Then he had to find out what was wrong. Then he had to come up with a plan and get his Dragon Riders involved. (No way he built this entire thing by himself, he would need heavy machinery/dragons and manpower as well as time.) And then they had to actually make that gate.
It probably took such a long time. Weeks if not months, like I said earlier.
Weeks if not months of this thing out there, doing whatever it did to make Hiccup, resident dragon protector, lock it away for the safety of all of dragon(and presumably human)kind for as long as he could be contained. This construction had to last.
The Dragon Riders probably worked tirelessly, they probably had to fend this thing off so many times to protect other dragons but also to protect themselves and each other, and it all led up to that one final battle that finally locked it away.

Been relistening to How to Train Your Dragon, and something I’ve noticed is:
Hiccup chooses his fate.
Like, I absolutely love the whole fate is ruling Hiccup’s life - playing games with him - I mean he is a walking “lost things magnet” to quote the witch. He seems destined to be king because there are so many signs - the blue snow, the swimming race, speaking dragonese, the dragon mark, the list goes on.
But. (And I only spotted this now) In the very beginning, when Gobber sends the boys in to steal a baby hunting dragon, the first dragon Hiccup ever has to train, he picks out one. He gets a nice easy basic brown (Horracow) and he probably would have been very happy with her. She’s obedient, holds similar non-violent beliefs as him, and would have been easy to train. He could have had a fairly ordinary life with her, nothing impressive but he’d have lived.
But Fishlegs didn’t get a dragon.
Fishlegs would have been banished from the tribe had Hiccup not decided to disobey the ‘only the strong can belong’ mentality and given up his dragon. Because he gives Fishlegs his dragon, Hiccup chooses Toothless. And Toothless. Toothless is the key to everything. Literally. *Looks hard at the lobster claw*
The point is, that because Hiccup chooses compassion over self preservation, he chooses to become king the wilderwest. He would rather do a hard thing, like find another dragon, than let his friend suffer. He would rather pick a dangerous adventure over those he’s responsible for, who he cares about, getting hurt. And that’s why, again and again, he always pick the path toward being king.
It’s the same when he saves Fishlegs by claiming he wrote the letter to Tantrum, and in the quest for the potato, and, finally, in how he defeats his father in the flashburn duel. Because dragons are people he cares about.
Yes, Fate chooses Hiccup, but only because Hiccup chose Fate first.

Flashback. Hiccup's only seen in like, silhouette and from the back. Nice. And his prosthetic.
Also nice picture of the boys

History Repeats Itself
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: an illustration from the how to train your dragon book series, showing an old fashioned stylized book cover with the title and corners embellished in gold. Two dragons are intertwined in the center, biting each other's tails in a lopsided oroboros .
The first image is in all dark sephia, while the second has made the cover dark blue leather, and the dragons in the center are now brown with purple wings and green with red wings. The title on both reads in all caps "History Repeats Itself." End ID]

Like I know it's only the first trailer and it's recorded on a potato but like. My first impressions are not good. At all. It looks so soulless. I legitimately hate it. In this first short trailer alone i noticed multiple little things that they left out/changed that really helped make the first movie so great and gave it so much heart and soul.
Not that I had any hopes for this film but man. This is just depressing. I don't like to see some of my favorite scenes in all of cinema being ruined, in a way.
Like just. Compare this to the original:

So much character removed and for what? """"""""Realism""""''""? In your movie that features pop culture vikings and mythical creatures? Come the fuck on.

Note
I'm guessing Stoick from the second film and possibly also Snotlout from the eleventh book?
I’m trying to remember—I think I cried about snotlout but not stoic, but it’s also been 10-ish years since that would have happened so I may be remembering wrong

When the Dragon Club first discovers about Jörmungandr's existence and how he's been locked away in the Dark Realm for the past 1,300 years, I genuinely thought that this episodes was going to be like one of those "oh, The Big Bad isn't actually the Big Bad, but just Scary And Misunderstood and we're going to find out that Hiccup was actually wrong about locking it away, teaching Tom that sometimes the people before us were wrong."
Then Thunder unlocked Jörmungandr's cage to save Tom's life, much to the horror of the Dragon Club kids, and the first thing that thing did was eat the Sky Torcher Buzzsaw brought. A really big dragon!
Just grabbed him by his neck, dragged him into the cage, and ate him.
You could hear the crunching noises.
Like Snotlout once eloquently said... Hiccup is always right.
