love to see that it seems like they completely butchered one of the greatest scenes in the entire franchise (the downed dragon)

no more slowly panning across toothless' body, finally revealing his open eye for the first time after panning over his wing. his gaze/expression is also so intense, so meaningful.......

no. now he just opens his eye in clear view and stares up with a "pls don't kill meeee 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺" look

i wouldn't be surprised if they did this just to show off his new nictitating membrane lmao and it's like. yeah it's cool or whatever but it's absolutely not worth ruining one of the most iconic shots/moments, especially when you could always just show it off in a different shot/scene???

HTTYD 3 and the Live-Action will never be on the same level, no matter how much you twist it.

The third movie, while being a bad movie, still had creative effort put into it. There were people who created entirely new concepts & characters, spent countless hours writing, drawing, modeling, animating something original.

The Live-Action on the other hand, is a cheap recycling of something that already exists. Almost everything was handed to it on a sliver plate. The Live-Action willingly treats it's origins as something lesser, while prizing itself as "real cinema" — because animation will of course never be something noteworthy. Because now, people who called the original a "cartoon for children and idiotic adults" can experience this amazing story in a digestable and acceptable way!

The only way this movie will be above The Hidden World is in the writing. The writing, which belongs to something else.

I'd rather watch The Hidden World a hundred times, before I give any of my money to this low-effort copy.

HTTYD 3 will always be more of an art than the Live-Action ever could. Just like how a fan's bad fanart will always be better than an AI slop.

This isn't the Monstrous Nightmare I know and love! This is a generic-looking dragon with Monstrous Nightmare traits crudely slapped onto it, and it looks so fucking bad (especially the horns, they look like really bad paper mache)! It preserves absolutely none of the charm of the original design, and if I didn't know this was a screenshot from the live-action HTTYD trailer, I probably wouldn't even recognize it as a Monstrous Nightmare.

And It's totally possible to make a realistic Monstrous Nightmare design that's still easily recognizable as a Monstrous Nightmare! Like take a look at this design (by Rasa88 on Deviantart):

Notice how it manages to convert the design to a more realistic reptilian anatomy while still keeping the features of the original Monstrous Nightmare design that make it unique and charming. The team behind the HTTYD remake could have similarly balanced the iconic features of the Monstrous Nightmare design with the realism needed for a live-action film, but they didn't even try.

Saw someone complain that Hiccup looks too young to be 15 in HTTYD, that he looks more like a 13yo, and that the live action "fixed" that by having Hiccup "finally look his age"... BUT THAT'S THE POINT THOUGH? He was born early, he's the runt of the village, considered a fishbone and a toothpick, "you can't lift a hammer, you can't swing an axe", visibly struggles with fighting etc. Yeah no shit he's small for his age, he's on the short end of the spectrum, he hasn't had his growth spurt yet either. Lots of people look younger (or older) than they are and that is normal! I just hate that the live action is considered a fix here, when in reality the live action takes away a great part of what formed Hiccup to be who he is. The live action guy doesn't look scrawny at all, there is no reason why that guy couldn't fight, or be called a runt or fishbone.

but im back!!! and i have so much to say, especially now that i saw the new hookfang and stormfly designs. and they're as bad as i expected!

so, uhmm... wtf is this???

i get that they wanted to make them more "realistic" but come on. it feels like they aren't even trying. why make an effort to make toothless look as much as his 3d model as possible if you're not going to do the same with the rest of the dragons??

bc i feel this only makes toothless stick out like a sore thumb.

each day that goes by i'm only more convinced that this LA is a completely waste of time, money and effort.

i plan on being more active now that i'm finished with school, so if anyone'd like to talk about this, i'm here!

(also, if httyd ocs are still a thing lmk bc i've been hyperfixated in httyd these holidays and i have so much to talk about :p)

i'm just sitting here watching people still somehow hating on nico parker as if she's not the ONLY tolerable thing about this fucking movie. i was right. there is NOTHING else of any worth here. maybe it's just because it's trailer music but i think even john powell's gonna let me down (though to be fair if i was working on the music for a remake this shit, i'd half ass it too). like. what the fuck. "oh why is she not blonde" WHO FUCKING CARES, WHY IS IT IN LIVE ACTION IS WHAT I WANNA KNOW?????? WHO GREENLIT THIS??? WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE ASS??

The HTTYD life-action looks like The Last Kingdom if it had dragons and just sucked.

And I know for a fact the moment it comes out, everyone will be like "This is how live actions should be done!" "This isn't like other live actions, this looks good and adds new things to the story!"

There's a high chance that the success of this movie will spark a new fave of content for this universe, but only in a lazy live-action and I won't look forward nor actually get into any of it. I'll just spend the time thinking why they couldn't have done it before (the answer is caring only about money). What I know for certain is if it does happen, my disdain for this franchise will grow high and I'll leave behind an universe I dearly enjoyed despite it's flaws.

So I'm letting everyone know that no matter how 'good' it is, it should not exist in the first place and no amount of interviews from the directors will ever convince me on why this was ever neccesary.

This is so fucking ugly. I will not be watching it. I have a perfectly good animated film to watch instead which is infinitely better than this steaming hot pile of garbage.

Also why the hell did they change the Kill Ring that makes no sense to have it that way.

Sure it’s soulless and only exists to be a lazy cashgrab but at least now it’s a REAL movie unlike that toddler cartoon /s

These little guys were some of my favorite dragons and they made them look like some chameleon, bearded dragon, whatever the hell is going on with the tail-

They always seemed more lizard/frog inspired to me, I dunno. Just more unnecessary, ugly changes to great creature designs
