"Hearts of Heroes" is an episode where I really like the support that Thunder gives to Tom.

It's a different kind of support than the one Toothless gave to Hiccup.

🧵 Small thread of appreciation:

I thought it was cute to hear Thunder laughing with Tom at Jun-Wu and Wei's nonsense.

The poor thing couldn't listen to Tom's horrible speech. His eyes said that his rider was getting worse and worse 🙉

Thunder gently pushed his shoulder to encourage him.

Thunder seemed to be asking Jun to tone down the pressure she was putting on Tom a little.

The poor thing did not like to see his rider unable to express what he feels.

From here begins my favorite part. Tom trying to be stealthy so as not to bother Jun but Thunder had a completely different idea about being stealthy.

He wants Tom to take the initiative right now.

And this is probably my favorite Tom-Thunder moment, I can't even remember a Toothless and Hiccup moment that matches this one.

Watching Tom hide Thunder and Thunder bring him back is something that makes me laugh and love so much.

I love how Thunder understands how Tom feels and still tries to cheer him up.

And this was the last moment of the episode where Thunder pushed him again to continue taking the initiative and not to back down.

Hiccup was weak and timid but found his strength with Toothless.

Tom may seem strong unlike Hiccup but there are times when he loses that strength and becomes introverted, Thunder becomes an important extension of him.

Obviously this friendship is not intended to be the same or better than that of Hiccup and Toothless, it is simply a parallel in a different time and how therapeutic a friendship with a dragon can be.

I feel like there's a lot of great analysis that could be made of Tom and the other riders (even that idiot Eugene), there's a lot more to them than what the show presented and it's sad that it was never explored.

Project ICARIS is a GIANT crater where the middle keeps going down and down and for some reason it’s causing the area around the crater to become a winter wasteland. Their currently working to figure out WHY that’s happening, They bring their children with them and skipping some stuff we find Alex and Tom walking to one of the igloos and getting attacked by a dragon, then thunder( or Zeus as I call him) coming and attacking the other dragon! Thus their first introduction to dragons, terrifying.

When the Dragon Club first discovers about Jörmungandr's existence and how he's been locked away in the Dark Realm for the past 1,300 years, I genuinely thought that this episodes was going to be like one of those "oh, The Big Bad isn't actually the Big Bad, but just Scary And Misunderstood and we're going to find out that Hiccup was actually wrong about locking it away, teaching Tom that sometimes the people before us were wrong."

Then Thunder unlocked Jörmungandr's cage to save Tom's life, much to the horror of the Dragon Club kids, and the first thing that thing did was eat the Sky Torcher Buzzsaw brought. A really big dragon!

Just grabbed him by his neck, dragged him into the cage, and ate him.

You could hear the crunching noises.

Like Snotlout once eloquently said... Hiccup is always right.
