Why It Worked: Inside Out
Introduction: Inside Out is an animated coming-of-age film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Directed and co-written by Pete Docter, with the screenplay being co written by Meg LaFauve and Josh Cooley, the film stars Amy Poehler, Phyliss Smith, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader, Kaitlyn Dias, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan and Richard Kind as Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, Fear, Riley, her parents Bill and Jill, and Bing Bong respectively. Released on June 19, 2015, the film was a major box office success grossing $858.8 million on a budget of $175 million. It also received critical acclaim from critics and audiences alike. According to Rotten Tomatoes, out of the 384 reviews aggregated, 98% gave a positive review with an average rating of 8.9/10. It also received numerous awards, including an Oscar for Best Animated Feature, several Outstanding Achievement Awards at the Annies, a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, and a Critic's Choice Movie Award for Best Animated Feature. It is often seen as a culturally significant film for mental health and the importance of expressing one's emotions. I saw this film for my birthday back in 2015 and I loved it right out of the gate. After multiple rewatches over the years, I stand by my personal opinion that this is a masterpiece of animation and visual storytelling. I'm overjoyed to talk about this film now that it finally has a sequel out.
The Plot: This film has 2 stories that are interconnected to one another, taking place in the mind of an 11 year old girl. On the outside, it's a bout a kid moving to a new city and being overwhelmed by the sudden changes happening all at once. On the inside, it's about Joy and Sadness trekking through Riley's mind, while along the way understanding each other's importance. Together, they create a very unique and engaging plot about growing up and learning to express yourself. The film brilliantly cuts between Riley, Joy and Sadness' journey, and what's happening at HQ to organically show what Riley's feeling and how her actions have psychological consequences. In addition to having powerful gut punching drama, it's also a very funny film with plenty of slapstick, goofy gags, and impressive word play that always gets me to belly laugh. Michael Giacchino also provides an enchanting, dreamlike score with great use of the piano and brass sections. The true highlight of the story is, of course, Pixar's masterfully crafted and innovative animation. The film makes Riley's mind so vibrant and expansive with Dream Productions and Imagination Land being major highlights. The outside world also looks very well done with the people looking very appealing, San Francisco looking grimy yet lived in, and Riley's old home in Minnesota looking very welcoming and colorful. Speaking of color, the use of colors in this film is nothing short of excellent from the radiant colors of Riley's memories, to Riley's clothes reflecting her current state of mind throughout the film. I also love how they use black and gray to represent faded memories and lack of emotion. If there's one word to describe Inside Out's story and animation, it's colorful.
Cast and Characters: This is an outstanding cast they brought on board for this film. Shout outs to the film's casting directors Natalie Lyon and Kevin Reher for picking out some excellent actors. Amy Poehler was phenomenal as Joy, perfectly capturing her bubbly and eccentric personality while also naturally showing her vulnerability and frustrations. Phyliss Smith sound perfectly dower and soft spoken as Sadness, yet at the same time making her sound so innocent and relatable. Lewis Black was the best match for Anger, making him sound crusty, cynical, and having a short fuse. Mindy Kaling brought in the right amount of sass and pettiness as Disgust and her comradery with the other emotions was brilliant. Bill Hader did a great job making Fear funny and relatable as a character. Kaitlyn Dias also deserve major props for her vocal performance as Riley, making her sound like a soft spoken but fun kid who goes through a great character arc in the film. Lastly, Richard Kind was the absolute surprise standout of the cast as Bing Bong as not only did he do a great job making him funny, but also made him relatable, selfless, a bit of an airhead, but also really resourceful. The cast did such a great job bringing these characters to life, with all of them being iconic and memorable in their own way.
Where It Falters: Outside of maybe adding another scene or 2 with Riley's life in Minnesota, I wouldn't change a thing with this film. It's one of those films where the only nitpick I have is I wanted more. Fortunately, that's remedied with the existence of the 2024 sequel. Coming out a couple years sooner wouldn't have been so bad either, but like I always say, quality>quantity.
Conclusion: There are a select few movies I consider to be a masterpiece. Inside Out is most certainly one of those movies. With outstanding writing, iconic characters, wonderful voice acting, masterfully crafted animation, and an enchanting score, it has more than earned its cultural significance. I cannot recommend this film enough, especially for those who struggle with expressing themselves such as yours truly. I promise this film will speak to you as it has for me after all these years. Thanks so much for reading and I'll see you soon ;)

Time is weird within the Oldest House
Spoilers for Alan Wake 2 and slight speculation for Control 2
Alright so. According to Estevez, HQ went dark and while she gives no hint as for how long it's been like that, it's safe to assume it's been four years due to how consistent the each Remedy game has been about the years they take place on.
Besides that, nothing is ever hinted at what's going on with the FBC's headquarters.
We know now time loops and spirals inside the Dark Place and that changes done there can bleed into reality (Jesse being told by a psychiatrist Zane is a filmmaker and not a poet, as she remembered him).
From the AWE DLC we know Jesse briefly witnessed Alan meeting Zane ("The Meeting" from now on), which came full circle in AW2.
From this event it's not unreasonable to assume two things:
1. The Meeting happened back in 2019.
The AWE DLC takes place before the ending of Control's and Foundation's story. This can be seen in the reports Emily writes about the new hiss enemies introduced in each dlc.
For the one introduced in AWE her title is still Research Specialist.
For the one in Foundation, her title is Head of Research. (also she got her Doctorate, you go girl!)
If this is holds up, Alan's timeline in AW2 has been bouncing back and forth way back from 2023.
Or, if you want a headache, even farther back given his role in Tom the Poet which came out before Zane disappeared. This is the poster in the Suomi Hall in Watery.
There's no hint yet if this change/addition of Alan writing a novel that inspired the film has made it past Watery and Bright Falls into the real world or was cleared at the end of the game.
This would also mean Ahti has been on vacations for four years.
2. The Meeting happened in 2023.
At the end of AWE dlc Langston says they're receiving an AWE alert from Cauldron Lake that is set a few years into the future. But is it?
What if it's actually the present, my dear beautiful Langston?
This would be consistent with the lack of any visual indication of the passage of time during the main story. There's none. And then, the Foundation DLC ends, and we see Dylan has grown hair and a beard.
Cute. But you know, Remedy has weaponized easter eggs. So no, I don't think Mr. comatose baldy growing a beard is a cute little detail they spent resources on.
We know by the time The Meeting takes place, Alan has not gotten out of the Dark Place yet, hence the alarm has not been activated (it goes off in the FBC monitoring station as soon as Alan/Scratch is transported back to the shore where Saga meets him for the first time).
If this holds up, then the timeline is more or less like this:
Ahti lets Jesse into the Oldest House in October 29th, 2019.
While Jesse is dealing with the Hiss, Alan unlocks Investigation Sector in the elevator.
Alan Meets Zane .
Jesse gets a glimpse of The Meeting.
Ahti gives Jesse his cassette players, goes on vacation.
Alan/Scratch gets out of the Dark Place (September 13th, 2023).
The AWE alarm sounds - and the signal made it into the Oldest House (September 13th, 2023).
Jesse takes down the Projector and deals with the Nail.
Dylan has grown hair.
Between point 4 and 5 more time could've passed, otherwise those are some short vacations for Ahti, it sounds like he's been in Watery for a while.
Therefore, during Control's main story, time was halted or passed very, very slowly when compared to the world outside.
How come?
With Remedy integrating their own alternate version of Quantum Break they might as well start using some of its harder science fiction approach. Alan has already mentioned the Dark Place as Dark Matter in one of his rambling videos. And well, this seems to have been the plan all along. From the chalkboard in Quantum Break:
There's been no text about black holes or matter density affecting space-time in any game as far as I remember. However, the imagery has been there with the Dark Presence vortex and certain images looking like event horizons.
So this is pure speculation:
The Oldest House is massive, it shifts, it expands and contracts. Could it be dense enough to affect space-time? could it do this on command?
It could be so dense that to those within its walls it'd seem like little to no time has passed, while outside at least four years have gone by.
The entire story is written in present tense in the missions menu, even after a mission has been completed (and the way the collectibles/mission menu was integrated as a world-building element with the Mind Place in Alan Wake 2, I don't think this was meant to be a cute weird little detail even back then).
Something happened during or after the events in the Foundation dlc, something shifted and now time is passing more or less normally. Or at least it is showing its effects on people.
Alice was seemingly cleansed from the effects the Dark Place had over her memory as soon she was brought inside the Oldest House. It's not unreasonable to assume this effect expands to protecting those within (those that are not too far gone, like Hartman). So the Oldest House would deal with time in its own terms, while the Dark Presence could make retroactive changes to certain details in the reality outside of it, like Zane going from poet to filmmaker.
Dylan's hair growth would indicate a month or two have passed at the very least by the end of Foundation. And from the one Control 2 concept art that has been shown so far, there are orange leaves in the pavement.
So Remedy could be planning to lift he lock-down during autumn. Autumn of what year? Heh, that's gonna be a fun one to find out.
-
As a counterpoint one could point at the game cinematic shots of the Oldest House from outside, they're always set at night across the story. It's just a detail that could've easily be a result of resource constraints. Yeah, not that it implies the story could've happened within one night.
Like with the clocks! You can point out at time being weird inside the Oldest House because none of the clocks are working! Time is literally frozen teehee, static textures on 3D assets, except for uh
Darling's Office in Central Research? Is that-
IS IT
IT'S WORKING
WHY DID YOU DO THIS REMEDY?
STOP-
(WE GET IT REMEDY, YOU'VE BEEN PLANNING IT ALL ALONG AND WHEN EVERYTHING IS LAID OUT IN CANON WE'LL FEEL SILLY BECAUSE THE HINTS WHERE THERE, IN OUR FACES, ALL THIS TIME)
-
Or you know, Control 2 will deal with the main cast enduring years of lock-down and the concept art is actually the end or middle of the game, and everyone exits the building on the year Control 2 releases.
Kind of lame in my opinion, but would make sense I guess.
-
Of course, there's another possibility I don't feel like following through:
The Dark Presence succeeded in changing the entire world and only The Oldest House and those inside remained intact. I mean, Dylan's easter egg in Foundation has some images
(that better not be a frozen ocean NO)
(NO, do not tell me this is the Huotari Well omg)
Hiss/Dark Presence became besties
And maybe, count Dylan's cut Hotline call. But that's cut content so strictly speaking, not canon (imagine it gets restored between Alan Wake 2 dlcs and the next Control game haha).
-
There are some things that should be brought full circle about the AWE dlc.
Alan is already aware of the FBC thanks to Estevez and Alice.
The sound fx aspect of the Hiss chant is basically lifted from the Cult of the Tree chanting (or you know, if you want another headache, it could be the other way around). And there are hints of verses from the Hiss incantation said out loud here and there. So pre-existing elements to give shape to a dadaist poem attributed to a hostile extra-dimensional resonance complete!
Has he yet come across the information from the FBC, that Hartman became a Taken?
He also kind of knows about the general plot of Control given he wrote a screenplay for an episode of Night Springs that was never produced.
It became clearer that Alan doesn't write whole new things or realities from scratch (shut up), that he writes from "visions" and vivid "nightmares" he's had. If that screenplay is a vision of the future of the events within the Oldest House, then that could be it.
However we haven't seen him become aware or gain knowledge of Polaris or Jesse herself beyond her extremely brief appearance during The Meeting.
This information has yet to make it outside the Oldest House (as far as we know) and only Dylan and Emily know about Polaris so far. Ahti too, maybe?
Sure, Alan could've somehow glimpsed something through the Oceanview Motel, he's got a door there anyways and he's gone through the Dark Place version of it (the Hotel), but this has not been made explicit like The Meeting.
Maybe The Lake House dlc will clear up that connection.
I mean yeah, that'd be fitting.
Don't forget one of the cut pieces from Control was The Oldest House opening a passage to Ahti's cabin in Finland, so The Oldest House being able to making an opening to Cauldon Lake is in Remedy's toolbox.
(I also think it'd be fair to see more of Jesse since Alan got a whole new 3D model in Control's AWE)
-
I'm missing a lot of things here I'm sure, I put this together more or less from things off the top of my head. I haven't gone through Control in a while so there are probably a more and clearer hints regarding time shenanigans within the Oldest House.
Also, AW2 timeline needs to be put on a wall to make sense of it. It'd look like a spiral, because of course.

⚣ Mind Yours 🤫
⚣🤫 A/N → Custom Spiderman drawing done by daviid.art on Instagram! Check out his work! Thank you! Always credit your fellow creators people. Anyway, first Miguel O'Hara fic. I think this was born out of my genuine disdain for him story-wise for trying to *spoiler bleep sound*, but also, from the fact that I'd let this man eat me like a Sunday dinner: no leftovers. Yeah...I said it. WARNINGS: Bit cringe but oh well. Flirty vibes (towards the end), Jealousy & Possessiveness, implied size kink.
⚣🤫 Summary → Okay, let's recap: Being one of the newly invited members into the Spider Society or Elite Force (what is the official name for this place anyway), there's a lot to take in. For one and probably the most pressing, why the hell is Miguel O'Hara always in Y/N's business? Does that man not have an entire Spiderman Task Force to run? And seriously, WHAT IS THE OFFICIAL TITLE OF THIS PLACE?!
⚣🤫 Words → 2.3K
REBLOGS & replies are greatly appreciated, please! 💛
⚣ ENJOY 🤫
The Spider Society.
No, the Spidermen Elite Task Force.
Nah, that’s stupid too. What about the Spidey Watch Force?
Seriously?
Alright, names could be dealt with later. But, at some point, Y/N was going to have to figure out what the official name for this place was. It was enough when he was recruited by his mentor, Peter Parker B. Why he had the B on his hand, he didn’t initially understand until he came to HQ and realized just how many different versions of him there were.
Yeah, the B was necessary.
Anyway, Peter took him on as a mentor when their recruiting department, if that was the official title for it, singled him out as a candidate with high potential. He said that Y/N reminded him a lot of another one of his unofficial mentees named Miles. The recruit noted that he seemed to hear that name a lot around the place, but not always in the most positive manner. Especially from their leader, Spiderman 2099, or Miguel O’Hara officially.
Speaking of that dude, Y/N was getting more and more concerned with how much attention the guy seemed to be paying to him. He figured in the beginning, he just wanted to keep an eye on him to see how he was doing and make sure he was following protocols. It made sense, but as time went on and he continued to just always be around, that’s when the recruit started to get a bit weirded out.
Miguel was an interesting person, to say the least. Quiet and broody, a bit obsessive, and a lot irritable. but one who tended to have a flare for the dramatic. When he met the new recruit, most saw his interaction with him as typical behavior. However, those closest to him, like Lyla, Jess, and Peter, knew better.
When Peter brought Y/N to Miguel’s office to introduce the new recruit, which the Hispanic Spidey personally requested, he was his typical sarcastic and cold self. What surprised everyone was when he offered to personally mentor Y/N, saying Peter had more important things to deal with like his (at the time) pregnant wife.
Y/N appreciated the offer but chose to stick with Peter. He didn’t mention that Miguel sort of creeped him out and made him feel intimidated, figuring that would make things any better. Of course, his original mentor had to go and make it awkward anyway by gloating at how great of a mentor he had to be.
Jess, of course, disagreed with that statement.
There was no visual reaction from the Hispanic man, but it didn’t take a genius to figure out that he wasn’t happy with Y/N’s decision. But, could you blame the guy?!
Peter made training fun. He found ways to make things seem more fun and comical than they would’ve seemed in the moment. He always had a lightheartedness to his teachings and would use the most interesting (questionable) examples when helping Y/N solve a problem.
Miguel didn’t mentor that many people from what the recruit saw, and just from those sights, he could see why. He took things way too seriously. Always looking at things from a negative or sarcastic point of view. The man was stubborn as hell, refusing to believe that you could teach and guide without being an obsessive hard-ass 24/7.
In his mind, he was only teaching discipline and responsibility. Y/N made a joke saying his teachings are probably the blueprint for what sends people to therapy. Jess, Lyla, and Peter all laughed while Miguel just scowled from afar.
But, it didn’t stop there.
The more time Y/N spent in the task force, the more he noticed how Miguel was always finding reasons or excuses to be in his business. It wasn’t just routine checkups and one-on-ones as most would expect.
Miguel was virtually finding any way he could stick his nose truly where it didn’t belong. Y/N found it annoying and a bit obsessive, while Peter, Jess, and even Hobie eventually all saw it for what it was. Typically, most Spider-people were not known for being the most discreet when it came to someone they were interested in.
It started with small stuff; Miguel constantly calling Y/N into his for the smallest of things. He didn’t like how he handled this mission, should’ve called for backup on that mission, make sure he doesn’t interfere with canon events, yada yada yada.
Then, it started with small comments about whatever Y/N was doing. Him being on his phone too much, spending too much time goofing around with Peter and the other Spiders, and taking too many trips home when he wanted to see his family.
Anything that had to do with Y/N, the big-bodied muscled Latin had something to say about it, even when he wasn’t present. He’d come across some Spiders who had been partnered with the mentee on the last few missions. He overheard one of them making a suggestive comment and it did not sit well with him for obvious reasons.
The next day, Y/N was confused as to why he was suddenly being pulled from all missions with his previous comrades. Though he never did find out exactly why, he had a strong suspicion of who more or less was responsible for it. And not just because the order came directly from them, but that added to it
It only got more interesting when Y/N got his new mission assignments from Peter, and he saw that he was “coincidentally” paired with Miguel on all of them. The mentee looked at his mentor with confusion and annoyance and only got a shrug in response and an empathetic apology.
Jess and the computer hologram also gave him sympathetic responses but gave their friend and leader suspicious and not-impressed ones when they met with him later that day. Of course, Miguel played innocent and oblivious, acting as if he was only doing this to help improve Y/N’s abilities and skills out in the field since he observed some specific areas where he was lacking.
“Oh, you’re observing all right…” Peter mumbled under his breath to which Jess and Lyla both giggled.
Miguel was not tickled.
The missions, as expected, were a lot. On multiple occasions, Y/N felt like he was ready to either strangle Miguel or himself. Whichever came first was completely out of his hands.
Miguel was on him for every single thing he did, but the gag was that he wasn’t even doing much since the control freak would always push Y/N behind him, taking on whatever enemy or threat himself. He’d usually just end up doing things like crowd control, getting civilians and innocents out of danger, and jumping in whenever his leader got overwhelmed.
Yet, that wasn’t even the worst part.
During these “intimate” times together (if you could even call it that), Miguel would take it upon himself to start asking innocent little questions. Of course, only if you define ‘innocent’ as very invasive in Y/N’s personal business. In that case, Miguel was an angel sent from heaven.
There were many kinds of questions, but they mostly were focused on Y/N’s personal life, specifically his relationships whether platonic or non-platonic. If, by this point, it hasn’t occurred that Miguel doesn’t have a subtle bone in his body, especially when it comes to keeping his “possessive” nature under control, then let it be known now.
Miguel’s jealousy was obvious as shit.
Yet, the only one who was oblivious to it was Y/N, who was getting more and more irritated and frustrated with every question in his life about why he was talking to this one person, and why didn’t he accept Miguel as a mentor. Physically incapable of letting shit go.
That topic made frequent appearances in their conversations where Miguel would go into one of his sarcastic and moody rants about Peter not being a fit mentor and how he would do so much better. The man was petty and could hold a grudge, and this seemed to be one he would not let go of for a long time.
At some point, Y/N had enough and went radio silent. Not completely, though. He told Peter that he was taking some time off and gonna stay in his dimension for a bit, to give himself a break from Miguel.
When he returned home, he left his watch buried in his desk and turned whatever communications or alerts he could off. As you can imagine, this did not sit well with Miguel, who probably was the only one who was consistently trying to contact Y/N, demanding to know why he wasn’t reporting in for their meetings or missions.
He would’ve gone to Peter and demanded he tell him what was going on, but he didn’t trust that soon-to-be father would give him the answer he wanted. So, he took matters into his own hands and made his way to Earth–6998.
Imagine Y/N’s surprise when he came home to a tall, buff-ass, brooding vampire Spiderman waiting in his bedroom with his watch in hand.
“Oh my god! Are you serious? You followed me home, broke into my house, and went through my drawer? And you’re sitting on my bed with outside clothes on?!” Y/N snapped.
That last one was just plain rude.
Miguel moved himself off the bed, his mask still on hiding his mildly guilty and awkward face.
“Why haven’t you reported to HQ? You missed three assignments, and I had to fix and fight a bunch of anomalies on my own.” Miguel demanded in his usual gruff manner.
“Because I’m taking a vacation, that’s why. And said vacation starts with me now washing my sheets and you leaving.” Y/N huffed before bumping past the taller man. He roughly pulled his sheets and pillowcases off his bed, gathering them in his arms before stomping towards the door, heading for his in-unit washer and dryer.
Miguel was hot on his trail, though, not planning on following the smaller Spiderman’s order in the slightest.
He was the boss last time he checked.
“I’m not going anywhere until you explain why you’ve been ignoring me.”
Y/N rolled his eyes while grabbing the detergent and fabric softener off the shelves from above, “I don’t have to explain anything to you. You may be in charge when it comes to your little Spider Society or Task Force or whatever you freaking call it, but when it comes to my life and my personal business, I answer to me, myself, and I only.”
After setting the washer and turning it on, he closed the lid before turning around, being met with a towering and bulky frame standing over him, not giving him much room to move past considering the tight space.
“I’d appreciate it if you would move out my way,” Y/N irritably asked, though his tone indicated that it was definitely not an ‘ask’ and more like a ‘get the fuck out my way.’
“I’d appreciate it if you stopped acting like a brat and ignoring me.” Miguel retorted.
“Ignoring you? IGNORING you?! How could I possibly ignore you when you constantly force your way into my life every single day? I can’t do anything or go anywhere without you two steps behind me or constantly asking me something that is, quite frankly, none of your concern! So, again, I am going to ask as politely as I can that you remove yourself from my home and learn how to mind yours. And, just so there’s no confusion, I 100% mean sticking your nose out of my business!”
Y/N went to bump past the stronger Spidey before he felt a large and tight grip on his upper arm, his whole body being pulled back before being shoved against the adjacent wall to the washing machine. Miguel crowded him against the surface, his body dwarfing him in size and leaving any possible room for him to move or try to escape.
Miguel leaned down into the young Spider’s face, his mask dematerializing over his face, showing the smug and flirty expression that was hiding under.
“You are my business, and I’ll continue doing as I please until you get it through your oblivious, tiny brain. Now, I’ll finish your sheets while you go get suited up, put your watch back on, and bring your ass back to HQ. We have a mission tonight, and then, we’re going to have a nice, long talk after.”
“And, just exactly how are you planning to make me do that?” Y/N pushed back, even if a small part of him wanted to give in, considering how so not hot he was finding this.
He had a thing for aggressive and dominant guys; sue him.
“Well, for starters, I can easily just say forget the sheets, toss you over my shoulder, and drag you back to HQ, whether you like it or not. But, I’d figured it’d be more considerate if I allowed you to return on your own choice.”
There was a silent pause between the two males, Miguel’s red eyes staring deep into Y/N’s who held a defiant glint in his own irises. A silent challenge was being waged between the two, seeing who would cave first, and considering the position he was already in, it was safe to say the smaller Spidey wouldn’t be winning this one, no matter how many webs or one-liners he shot out.
“Didn’t think the word considerate was in your vocabulary. Fine. But, I’m just doing the mission, and then I’m leaving.” Y/N caved, still somewhat in a defiant mood. Really, he was pushing the waters to see how far he could go.
Miguel raised an amused eyebrow before leaning up, giving the smaller Spider room to move. Just as Y/N moved out of his grasp, he felt a hot sting on his rear end. His hands went to cover his throbbing tushie while turning to see a cocky look on his face, the guilty gloved hand with the claws extended caught in the act.
“Remember who’s in charge here. Mind yours, Y/N, and I’ll mind mine.”

How are the apartments set up at Shinra HQ? Who’s apartment is next to who’s? Is there any drama between neighbors? Is anyone’s far away, hoping they won’t be bothered?
I'm going to use this post as a reference dump for the headcanons I have, because I think about this a lot lol.
• There are two SOLDIER residence floors within the 49th level accessed by a private elevator that you need an access card to ride in.
• The Third Class apartments are shared between three people, the Second Class apartments are shared between two people, and all the Firsts have their own apartments. *There was a time period right before the war ended where all three Firsts had to share one Third Class apartment because the First Class apartments were still under construction.
• Zack is a Second but he currently doesn't have a roommate, so he takes this opportunity to have Cloud over all the time.
• Zack and Sephiroth are on the top floor, with Sephiroth's apartment being the last door at the end of the looong, large hallway. Genesis and Angeal are on the bottom floor at opposite ends of the hallway. *Due to Angeal's house plant collection, bugs oftentimes proliferate on their floor and get into Genesis' apartment, which he hates.
• The First Class apartments are the more luxurious and spacious ones, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic view of the city skyline, combo bathrooms, and more space than they know what to do with.
• They usually congregate in either Angeal's or Sephiroth's apartments—Angeal's being the coziest, and Sephiroth having the biggest living room.
• Occasionally someone will set off the smoke detector and cause everyone on their floor to stand in the hallway at 2AM while maintenance deals with it. Zack has a tendency to wake up in the middle of the night, inspired to cook, and has been the culprit a total of 5 times. By the 5th time Angeal threatened to take away his stove. Genesis wakes up from nightmares shooting firaga, and has been the culprit 7 times. Sephiroth's oil diffuser caught fire one time and he thought the best course of action to take was to burn the diffuser into nothing. This didn't work. The two floors had to evacuate because it set off everyone's detectors. They all stood in the 49th floor reception as the fire was dealt with. They all knew it came from Sephiroth's apartment. Sephiroth didn't know this, so he spent a good portion of the night talking to people going "who could've done this?"
• All three Firsts have the keys to each other's apartments, not because they love and trust each other, but because one time they couldn't get ahold of Genesis for half a day, so they broke into his apartment and found out he was stuck in his own bathtub because he thought it was a good idea to submerge himself in essencial oils. He drained the tub but was completely unable to get out without slipping back into it.
• Sephiroth and Genesis regularly have to help Angeal drag up garage sale/flea market steals up the stairwell so nobody sees them. Sephiroth's last straw was when he had to go up and down 49 flights of stairs a total of 32 times bringing up boxes of antique kitchenware. By the 18th time he was having to step over Genesis' presumed dead body on the 38th floor landing.
• Sephiroth loves to meditate, but he is unable to because his apartment is right on top of Genesis', who loves to listen to his music uncomfortably loud.
• Genesis claims he's the one who suffers living under Sephiroth. One time he was woken up at 3AM to the violent sound of a gong being hit. Genesis blew a hole through his roof with firaga, which then shot a hole through Sephiroth's floor.

I love you sm for writing for Kate Stewart. So brilliant!! I was wondering if you could possibly write like a reunion fic? Where Kate was away on a mission and it turned really bad , a little angsty maybe with a happy ending? Xx
Aw, thank you! I hope you like this one, Anon.
When you got the call from Mel that you should come into HQ, your mind had immediately gone to worst case scenario. Kate had been gone for few nights now, out on a mission that she’d assured you would be nothing but routine. The house was too quiet without her, the bed too big and cold, but you’d known what you were signing up for when it came to Kate. She’d made it clear. And if you felt a pang of anxiety any time she had to go away on missions, then you kept that to yourself to never burden her. She’d told you about the job, it wasn’t right that you should complain about the danger she faces if she never did.
So when the call came in from Mel, you rushed over to HQ, expecting the worst.
Flashes of images kept going through your head on the entire car ride over. Kate, hurt. Kate, bleeding and bruised. Kate, missing. Kate, dead.
You moaned at that last one, doing your best to push it away. If you thought about it too much you’d begin to hyperventilate and then you’d have to pull over which would just make it take longer to get there and know what had happened. You needed to know, cursing Mel for not saying more on the phone.
Stumbling over your own feet, you rushed through the front doors, almost falling into Mel’s arms. Her arm curled around your shoulders, holding you tight, and only then did you realise you were trembling.
“What happened?” you asked her, tripping over your words, “is she okay? What’s going on?”
“Come on, let’s get you upstairs,” she said rather than answering your questions.
“Mel, please,” you pleaded, “I need to know.”
“A situation has developed on the mission. It’s… you’ll see.”
She swept you into the lift. It moved too slowly, your need to see Kate, to hold her, to check her over and make sure she was okay turning you into a jittery mess. You would have sprinted there if you could have, just to see her sooner.
The doors slid open on the command centre. Heads turned towards you as you walked beside Mel towards Kate’s desk. On the screen, projected for all to see, was the image of a person in full tactical armour, helmet in place, pointing a gun at Kate.
Your knees turned to jelly and for a moment you couldn’t feel your fingers. You stared up at it, not quite comprehending what you were seeing.
“Where’s Ibrahim?” you asked.
“From what we can gather, he was incapacitated and Kate was taken after an altercation. It appears as if she’s now in negotiations, but we’re unclear if they realise she’s still transmitting visuals to us,” Mel said from beside you.
You lowered yourself into Kate’s chair, staring up at the screen. You pressed your hands between your knees, squeezing until it hurt.
“No sound?” you asked.
“We lost it during the altercation,” she said.
You watched, flinching every time the gun swung towards Kate. She stared back at the person, calm with her hands raised by her shoulder, mouth moving as she said something. You wanted to hear her voice. If you could, then you’d know how she really felt, what was going through her head, if she was scared.
As it was, the set of her chin had your heart clenching.
You couldn’t look away from the screen. Even blinking felt as if you were going to miss something crucial. Like a shot going off. If she was shot and you missed it you’d never forgive yourself. Some sick sadistic part of you wanted to suffer through it with her just so she wouldn’t be alone. Even if she didn’t know as she had no idea you were watching.
“Look, look,” Mel said, pointing at the screen.
You didn’t bother snapping that you were, instead shifting your gaze. Something over the shoulder of the armoured person shifted in the shadows, drawing closer. Kate’s lips kept moving, keeping the focus on her. You held your breath.
Ibrahim sprung forward. There was a flash on the screen. In the moment before it went dark, Ibrahim tussled with the armoured person. Heart in your throat, you were on your feet, staring at the dark screen.
“Get it back,” you said.
“We can’t,” someone said.
“Get it back,” you shouted.
“That shot took out the camera. We have no visual feed anymore,” Mel said, her arm curling around you, pulling you into her body in what you were sure she thought was a comforting hug.
You couldn’t tear your eyes away from the black screen. You stood there long enough for Mel to leave you alone and the others to begin talking about extraction around you. Eventually Rose manoeuvred you back to Kate’s desk, sitting you as you stared up at it.
“She’s not dead, right?” you whispered.
“I’m sure she’s fine. You know Kate. Nothing can stop her,” she replied.
You nodded but it didn’t make you feel any better.
“We’ve got them,” someone shouted from the back of the room.
You rose on unsteady legs, a fragile hope building in your chest.
“They’re inbound,” someone else said.
And then you were waiting on tenterhooks, staring at the helipad doors. You were tense, a live wire as you waited, unable to relax until you saw her in person. Until you could have her in your arms, you wouldn’t be able to calm down. Your heart would race, would beat hard enough to leave bruises on unseen skin, would strangle itself until it felt the soothing tempo of Kate’s reverberating through your ribcage.
The doors opened, sunlight spilling in and it was like a signal in your brain. You walked towards that portal to the outside world, holding your breath as you listened to the helicopter. Mel’s hand on your shoulder held you in place as you broke out into the sunlight, the cool air of the day brushing your exposed skin, hurting when you breathed it in.
And then Kate was there, climbing down onto the helipad, saying something to Ibrahim, seemingly unharmed. Your heart stuttered in your chest. Her gaze swept over her welcoming committee before pausing and turning back to you.
Mel’s hand meant nothing after that.
You were racing across the concrete, flinging yourself into her arms. She caught you, stumbling back a step from the force of your body crashing into hers. Your arms were around her neck and hers was cradling the back of your head, holding you close. Your face was buried against her neck, nose brushing her skin, breathing her in.
“Darling,” she sighed, pressing you closer, “what are you doing here?”
“Mel called,” you said, muffled from where your face was pressed against her.
She held you tighter and for just a moment you felt her tremble in your arms. Then, she straightened up and you let her step away, facing her people as she straightened jacket. You took a half step away, turning away to brush the tears off your cheeks. You hadn’t even noticed them falling.
“I have to give a debrief,” she said to you once she was done, her arm around your waist, shuffling you closer to the doors.
“Okay,” you said.
“Wait for me in my office. I’ll try to be done as quickly as possible,” she said.
Her lips pressed to your temple and then she was being swept away to her meeting. You trailed behind, doing your best to get your heart under control. You felt out of control, the emotional rollercoaster of the day having taken its toll.
You sunk into the chair behind her desk, fiddling with the pen left abandoned on her desk when she’d moved out for her mission. Even knowing she was in the building and safe, you still felt jittery without her in your line of sight. You just wanted to sink into her and never let her go.
You waited there for over an hour, pen tapping against your thigh. The door opened, your heart leaping in your chest. Kate closed it softly, leaning back on the door, warm eyes settling on you. Her lips pulled up into a smile, soft and fond, speaking of the years you’d had together.
“Were you hurt?” you asked.
“Only some bruising,” she said, “nothing serious.”
“Then c’mere.”
You held your hand out to her. Rounding the desk, her fingers tangled with yours. You pulled her down onto your lap, curling your arms around her, feeling her weight settle on you, warmth seeping into your body.
She lent forward, pressing her lips to yours and you sighed, your muscles finally relaxing. Her fingers tipped your chin up, kissing you more insistently until you were gasping her name. Your hands pushed under her shirt, finding the bare skin of her back, palms brushing over her spine until you felt her shiver.
She was alive under your hands, warm and real and unharmed. She invaded every sense, her perfume in your nose, her taste on your tongue, the sound of her whimpers loud in your ears. It was like she couldn’t get close enough to you. Luckily, you wanted her closer still.
“Kate,” you moaned, “fuck.”
She drew back, far enough for her nose to skim along your jawline, lips pressing to your skin until you were melting against her.
“I missed you,” she murmured into your skin.
“I missed you too,” you said, arms tightening around her.
She let out a long breath, face buried in the crook of your neck. Your breathing slowed to fall in tandem with hers, your hearts beating together.
“Mel shouldn’t have called you,” she said.
“I’m glad she did. I would have wanted to know,” you said, “if something had gone wrong…”
“Nothing was going to go wrong,” she said, drawing back to look at you properly.
“You had a gun pointed at you. Kate, you promised me it was nothing but routine. That didn’t look routine,” you said.
“Things got out of hand but we had it under control,” she said.
“You were shot at!”
She blinked at you. You were staring back, waiting for her to admit that you had every reason to be worried.
“I was always going to come home,” she said.
“You can’t know that,” you said.
“I can,” she said, sounding so sure.
“How?” you demanded.
“Because I had to get home to you.”
Your breath caught. The way she was looking at you was so certain of herself, and so certain of you. Her fingers gently pushed your hair behind your ear, lingering on your skin, softening under your gaze.
“Kate,” you breathed.
“It doesn’t matter what happens to me, or what situations I’m put in. They can try but I’ll always have something more important to fight for. And that’s you, darling. I will always be fighting to get home to you,” she said, “so none of the rest of it matters. Because there is no one fighting harder than me, and there never will be.”
You had no words. Shaking your head, you pulled her in for another kiss. Soft and sweet, lingering long enough to leave you breathless.
“I’d marry you all over again if I could,” you said.
“This hasn’t scared you off?” she asked, and for the first time you heard a note of worry in her voice.
“Never,” you said.
“Good, because I’d quite like to go home now,” she said.
“Have a bath? Glass of wine? Good book?” you asked.
“You know me so well,” she chuckled, “although there is one thing missing there.”
“What’s that?” you asked.
“You, darling. I can’t have an enjoyable evening without you.”
You melted, feeling yourself fall even more in love with her. She placed a chaste kiss on your lips before standing from your lap. Holding out a hand to you, she was smiling down at you, eyes smouldering.
“Come on, darling. Let’s go.”
You didn’t need telling twice.

thoughts no one asked for but my mind has no mouth and must scream
At the beach with Miguel and Spider Gang (Miles, Hobie, Gwen, Pavitr, Peter and MJ and Mayday)
Rating: G
Word Count: 1.2K
Tags: Spider dad vibes, beach, food, established relationship with Miguel, GN!Reader, mention of reader in swimwear but nothing specific
Notes: Wrote these up kinda quick!
Nevermind how you and Peter convinced Miguel to go to the beach with you guys, you're just glad he's open to doing something fun!
Miguel is prepared. He's got a checklist of everything you guys need and definitely keeps a first aid kit handy.
He is supervising that everyone has on their sunscreen, bugspray, and what have you because he'll be damned if you guys head back to HQ and one of you can't function because of a little sunburn. (Lowkey he just cares though.) He even brought infant/toddler specific sunscreen for Mayday.
Miguel's eyes are sensitive to light so he's got his sunglasses on! And Peter forgot Mayday's hat, but Miguel already brought one for her just in case. It's not that Miguel doubts Peter, he just likes to help.
"Oh, darn," Peter says. "Guys, has anyone seen Mayday's hat? It's pink with little flowers and-" "Honey, I think you left it on the couch?" Mary Jane says. "I think you're right," Peter sighs. "Well, looks like you're stuck with me under the umbrella, kiddo!" "Peter." Peter looks to Miguel who's just got that impassive expression of his as he holds out an infant size hat. It's stylized like the classic Spider suit (red/blue with white web motif). Peter smiles and takes the hat and as much as he wants to give Miguel a hard time about being a softie he spares him. This time!
When Miguel sees you come out in your swim outfit (if this is his first time seeing you in it), he's thankful for the sunglasses because he's not taking his eyes off you. Immediately wants to hold your hand, put his arm around your waist or *something*. He needs some kind of physical contact with your body and his.
Miles, Hobie, Pavitr, and Gwen will waste no time getting in the water.
Miguel will take it upon himself to set up the chairs, umbrellas, and everything else. He's not going to ask for help and will just grumble about it the whole time. Of course, you guys step in to help. You and Mary Jane take over bringing the rest of the stuff from the vehicle while Peter and Miguel set up a little pool area for Mayday.
Once everything is set up, the adults can hit the water!
Miguel does not show it often, but he can be mischievous at times. He'll swim underwater and sneak up on you and if you're on a floatie there's a 50/50 chance he will flip you over.
At some point, it's just you and Mary Jane in the water while the others are off doing their thing. Miguel makes it a point to join Peter and Mayday to help keep them company. He actually smiles a bit when Mayday splashes him and he does play with her. You and Mary Jane just watch in amusement.
Mayday hands her dad a little crab toy and hands a shark to Miguel. Miguel makes little "rah-rah" noises and pretends the shark "bites" Mayday and she giggles. Peter lets the intrusive thoughts win and he proceeds to squish the crab revealing that it squirts water and it does so right in Miguel's face.
"Really, Peter?"
A little while later and you guys are all back on shore; you and Mary Jane catch some sun and relax in the lounge chairs and the rest are making sand castles. Gwen and Miles work together to build one and theirs looks a little clumsy, but they're having fun. Hobie and Pavitr have the most visually pleasing looking sand castle complete with seashell decor. Miguel and Peter are taking this VERY seriously and are making a very large and structurally sound sand castle complete with multiple battlements and a moat.
For food, Miguel made sure to pack a variety of snacks and drinks for everyone to have throughout the day; there's plenty of fruit (he brought some tajin to spice it up!) There's chips, paletas, agua frescas, chicharrones, pan dulce, and what have you. You stayed up the night before packing everything into the coolers and ice chests. For food there's all kinds of fixings for tortas that way everyone can have them the way they like. Miguel packed plenty forgetting that not everyone has the hefty appetite he does, but he also rather he bring too much than not enough for everyone.
Miles is the one who suggests that you guys play volleyball and if you didn't know before, you learn that Miguel can get competitive. Hobie and Pavitr take a turn hanging with Mayday and Hobie jams on his guitar. The teams are Peter, Mary Jane, and Miles versus you, Miguel, and Gwen. If you're not a Spider-person then you and Mary Jane are the outliers among the group. The gang don't even realize they're using their spider abilities to play and it's best if the two of you back away slowly.
The team opposite of you got a point on your team and were gloating a little too much for Miguel's liking and Spider-Man 2099 felt it was an appropriate time to humble them. To say Miguel's serves are aggressive is an understatement.
During the game, Miguel's claws came out, much to his embarrassment, and they popped the ball.
You packed a spare.
When everyone returns to have fun in the water, you stay behind to comfort Miguel a bit. He's still a little sore about the volleyball incident.
Taking a break from the water, you sit under the umbrella on a towel next to where Mayday is and Miguel will come over and lay next to you and rest his head in your lap. You run your fingers through his hair and he starts to doze off for a minute.
He's been very busy trying to facilitate the outing at the beach despite you trying to tell him to hang back and let everyone else help out. He just can't help but take up the responsibilities.
Peter and Mary Jane brought supplies for s'mores!
You guys get a fire going as the sun goes down and enjoy some!
Miguel's never actually made a real s'more. He's had s'more flavored things and always found them too sweet for his liking, but he's willing to give this a go.
"Miguel, you have to leave the marshmallow in the fire longer than that!" You instruct trying to help guide the skewer back into the flames. "Is it supposed to be burnt??" "Just a little," you chuckle. "That's what makes it soft on the inside. It tastes fine, don't worry." You help him construct the s'more and he takes a bite. "Ay dios!" He says with a mouthful of s'more as the marshmallow squishes out the sides and gets on his hands.
As the day comes to a close, everyone helps clean up and bids each other goodbye.
It's just you and Miguel left on the beach and the two of you take a moment to enjoy the quiet of the night, the view of all the stars, and the sound of the waves on the shore before deciding to head back home.

that pretty boy just bit me! he bit me! are you fucking kidding me-?
thinking about the hq characters whenever I listen to the Warriors album that came out recently (I actually really like it - I watched the film as a kid when I shouldn't have and was so scared of it that this album has healed that fear a little - the bottle clinking is still the soundtrack for my nightmares though).
yes I have daydreamed the entire story, yes you will see snippets of it if this stays latched on my brain for long enough. for now, enjoy my match-ups of hq characters to the main gang members because I have been thinking non-stop about how easy it is to transfer their personalities over since the album was released. if you know nothing about The Warriors (book, film, or album), this will probs not make much sense but enjoy anyways!
tw for anyone who needs it: The Warriors is about gang violence and murder so caution engaging with it + this post thus mentions it briefly
The Gramercy Riffs = Aoba Johsai
Oikawa is absolutely Cyrus who believes in everyone to come together for a common dream (and in turn they build a belief in him). Iwaizumi is Masai and grieves so hopelessly for Oikawa. Aside from the devastating iwaoi, it's funny on a meta-level to imagine Oikawa saying "can you dig it?" when thinking about his serves like no they can't dig it babe !!! But we love you king
The Warriors = Karasuno
Ofc Karasuno are the stars of this daydream. Daichi is Cleon who helps Iwaizumi find the killer gang, obviously renamed Odysseus because that man just wants to go home (although he would defo believe in Oikawa's ideals and want to set things right, even at the expense of himself). Kageyama is his right hand man, Swan (renamed King ofc), and leads the gang back home - imagining Kageyama saying that he has a gang loyal to him makes me want to cry when thinking about hq, trust me and listen to the album whilst imagining Kageyama as Swan. It will change your life.
Suga is Cochise (renamed Polaris/Sirius bc symbolism), Asahi is Rembrandt, Noya is Ajax (we love a fighter who refuses to back down from a challenge), Tanaka is Cowboy (ofc he gives in to the Sirens), Tsukishima is Vermin/Snow (renamed to idk something like Clock bc he tsks a lot and it sounds like ticking), Yamaguchi is Fox and I cry every time I think about him as Fox (currently listening to that song and sniffling as I type). Hinata absolutely is Mercy (renamed Sunshine or something) and I cannot listen to A Light Or Somethin' without thinking about kagehina. They like and want each other instantly but can't express that in the 'right' way !! Kageyama lifting Hinata's face when he's embarrassed being seen by others and then kissing him??? Oh. oh the humanity.
The Rogues (killer gang) = Shiratorizawa or Johzenji
Ahhh the killers (no, not Mr Brightside). I love Luther's character because he is so unhinged for little reason which is why Tendou springs to mind BUT I cannot see Tendou in this. So my mind goes to Terushima (likes fun and pushes boundaries => obvs transfers to being a maniacal villain who kills for no reason (jk)).
The Hurricanes = Nekoma
I just love the idea of these guys acting as alley cats on skates. that is very funny to me. Also: Kenma on skates?? I love that visual. I fully believe he would hate it and either be the only one in the gang to walk or is dragged around by a leash so someone pulls him along on the skates OR Kuroo straight up carries him. Anyways: Kuroo is the gang leader, Kenma is the one who convinces them to let the Crows go because he uses one of his many braincells to realise that they absolutely didn't kill Cyrus (unlike many others in this story).
The Furies = Fukurodani
If you haven't listened to the song about them, please do. I get chills every time - they only come out at night?? Oh yes please, the ideas are flowing. These are the Night Owls with metal bats and painted faces. Bokuto is the leader but I can't imagine him to be willingly silent in a gang hmmm.
The Orphans = Inarizaki
Atsumu and Osamu as twin leaders of a weak but large gang makes me giggle okay? Hinata calling them chickens and trying to get into the Crows' gang? yeah i like that idea. Also the idea that Atsumu follows the vibe of the music album by letting the Crows walk through Orphan Town after flirting with Kageyama and Yamaguchi makes me laugh.
The Lizzies = The Sirens (aka any pretty people in hq not already mentioned in a gang)
Kiyoko is a given as the gang leader who Tanaka falls for and derails the Crows for a little bit. However, as the title suggests, the lines 'that pretty boy just bit me! he bit me! are you fucking kidding me?' are really catching onto my brain and I can't stop vocally stimming with it so maybe we follow ennotana and let Ennoshita bite Tanaka idk.
Honourable mentions: UshiTen as the radio DJs.
That's it. You read it right. Tendou is the radio DJ calling out to the boppers and chilling me to the bone but Ushijima is the one behind the scenes whenever I think about this, ensuring the radio show goes smoothly lmao
And I'm finished :D I really had to get this out lmao I cannot stop thinking about this nor stop listening to the album so this will be something I obsess about for a while longer !!! If you see references to it in future fics, no you don't <3

Do you think the Peters would continue to wear their masks in HQ because it's weird seeing your face on other people even if they're all a teensy bit different or would they have gotten over it quickly?
This kinda opens up a big chasm that I'm SO CURIOUS ABOUT - Because I would assume they'd get use to it, but HOW.
And now this has turned into a long post about
The Spider Society: Multiverse Integration Process Analysis
[In this post I theorize and deconstruct:
The psychological existential damage that would come with joining The Society
How The Society handles integration and mental health for new recruits in everything from those in different timelines (Noir & Webslinger), Duplicates (Like Gwen & Hobie)
These are all headcanons based on.....me.
And...this devolves into a rant a little bit in the beginning BEAR WITH ME - But I hope you enjoy and I'm DYING to hear people's thoughts!! We GETTIN INTO IT]
So. Joining the Society sounds swell. But thinking about it for more than two seconds..
Even the idea is like...borderline traumatic.
Think about it. Like we've only ever seen ourselves in mirrors and photos - mirrors being reflections and photos having a shorter focal length than the human eye.
We normally have a very limited view on how we've ever seen ourselves externally.
So turning up to HQ isn't just seeing yourself - it's seeing yourself WRONG. In a way you've never seen yourself before. Some even theorize that your brain wouldn't even process it as you because of your visual expectations of yourself.
So as a Peter-
Maybe he doesn't even realize at first that the people around him ARE HIM, until it clicks like 'OH. THATS WHAT I LOOK LIKE?!' Is that my face???
It would only take a couple seconds to do the math, but it's still JARRING. To see yourself moving and speaking and actively laughing.
Hearing your own laugh.
HEARING YOUR VOICE SAY THINGS YOU'D NEVER SAY. Literally looking at another Spider-person like 'I would not say that'. It must be so mentally jarring and confusing to suddenly have a new and complete external view of yourself you have no control over - even moreso with such wide variation.
And then it goes even further - as trans person like
I imagine Trans-Guy Peter Parker turning up to campus and realizing '..oh, most other Peters are cis.' The emotions of that would be so surreal and conflicting. Part affirmative of your place in the universe as a guy, but also part isolating or confusing.
Part 'Hell yeah other guys', part 'WTF universe' [Like if I saw cis guy version of myself bruh Idk if I'd hug him or fight him to the death right then and there i REALLY don't know I might snap and go Miguel Mode on that mfer anything could happen]
It even goes further to time eras:
I understand why Noir isn't in the Society. Having a bunch of Spider-people from 2023 saying 'Oh wow you're from 1933, well your life is gonna SUCK for the next decade or two cause in my universe in WW2 Germany-'
Like...that's NERVE-WRECKING.
Cause he'd probably be like 'wow swell, chipper. so umm...is WW2 a canon event because im trying really hard to stop that'
Imagine being from the 1930's and someone comes up and spoils WW2 for you. WORLD WAR 2. SPOILED. Like it's a soap opera.
If someone shows Noir Oppenheimer it's like..game over. What's he gonna do does he even know what an atom bomb is.?????
When joining, everyone is faced with a LARGE possibility of existential damage - even moreso for Peters, minority Peters, or people like Gwen.
Which begs the question - HOW DOES INTEGRATION WORK?
How does The Spider Society handle Integration?
I'm so curious to hear thoughts about this. Because how can you integrate someone of a different history, technological understanding, and basic EXISTENCE without psychologically sending them in a tailspin?
I'm gonna take a crack at it!
Culturally and Timeline wise? -
Culturally, how does one adjust? Like Noir?
I was thinking about this with the creation of my new OC - and I ran into a huge problem in terms off integration.
I recently created an OC who is supposed to come from a Wakanda-like rendition of South America - in a universe where the Spanish conquistadors never colonized.
Which is a lovely thought - But logically speaking
That Spider-person has to go to HQ and be told that in every other world their land was colonized for hundreds of years. *vine thud*
Then that Spider-person would logically, have to be told that large swathes of their culture were either destroyed, desecrated or were never created to begin with because of this colonization
- and that THEIR universe is the only universe where their people survive and thrive.
AND THEN they're looking at her like
'Now that we explained that uhhh can you go through an integration course for us? :) so you can assimilate into our society? but the course is only in widely spoken languages like English and SPANISH. Do you speak SPANISH? Welcome to NUEVA YORK btw'
UH-OH. THAT SUCKS ASS. Who's gonna be the one to tell her that???
Of course she'd be like 'Actually, this is the worst day of my life i hate everyone here and im psychologically stressed beyond repair, thanks for that. your society and multiverse sucks balls btw'
And this is not something I'm choosing to put the character through.
In fact, the character is supposed to be about the empowerment of Quechua people and avoiding the trauma of colonization.
But by simply existing in the context of The Spider Society - Logically speaking - she has to face this huge inevitable trauma and reality outside of her universe.
And that adjustment goes way beyond her learning technology. She'd genuinely be in mourning.
She wouldn't be able to connect with other Latin American Spider-people, because she's NOT 'Latin-American'. That idea is foreign to her.
She'd constantly be told or sent messages that her universe and nation and reality was a novel rarity. A lucky fluke.
There has to be some integration process in place -
If you're from a universe like Barbieland, where your society is matriarchal, you'd probably be really stunned and hurt to experience casual or outright sexism for the first time.
And then being told by other Spiderwomen that - yeah no, your universe isn't actually that common. Most universes SUCK for women.
-That'd scare the shit outta you. You'd be like fine I dont wanna go to other universes I wanna go home and cry
On the other hand, people like Hobie exist, who hail from dystopias. And for them, it's the reverse. The Society may be a new batch of freedom they've never dealt with before.
And they have to be assured they are back not and do have more freedom and that's good. Almost like the deprogramming from a cult (into something another society that's very similar).
Someone would have to explain:
People from different times (or social standings) as well.
Sure, Hobie may have adjusted easy, but we can only assume that. And I've talked before about how learning about other Spider-People, The Society, and their blatant disrespect to what HE considers the point of Spider-man - was probably incredibly stressful for him.
Or even simple things of telling a black Spider-person from let's say 1940 that 'you have equality now - there's groups and movements and you can meet black people from newer universes that are happy and free to do as they please. You can heal'. After DECADES of oppression.
Or telling a gay or trans Spider-person 'Oh, most universes are actually super accepting. I'm sorry yours is so oppressive. The HRT here is great and free.'
EVEN FOR SILLY PEOPLE for Spider-people like lets say Spider-Fool (a silly little guy). How do you explain to Spider-Fool that Miguel isn't a king - he's just some guy and NO horseback jousting with Webslinger is against rules and not a way to settle disputes??
They're not hearing that.
Or explaining to people that Lyla isn't a person and its possible for her to be everywhere at once.
Logically speaking someone has explain this to them right out very early on and I'm so curious about that!!
There has to be something there to mentally support them so they don't crack and also explain to them the nuances of existence in a universe that's literally like the New York of the multiverse- full of dozens of cultures and subgroups.
My Analysis -
So I'm assuming an cultural integration includes:
Some sort of Common World History Course
A Social Etiquette Course and a
Multiverse Minority Sensitivity Course that deals with either accepting and adjusting to the fact you're a Multiverse Minority or how to approach and speak to Multiverse Minorities if you're a Peter or something.
Optionally: The MMS Course may also include routine therapy sessions at the Mental Health Center to check their adjustments
So okay, you've explained the multiverse and how to exist in it! Great
____
Now you have to explain THE TIMELINE.
Which is arguably WORSE. And I'm not even TOUCHING Canon Events here.
Let's talk about Gwen. Because I feel for her. REALLY REALLY BAD FOR HER.
How did they explain to Gwen WHO she was - or WHY these grown men were staring at her?
Imagine being Gwen on day one. Asking herself how all these guys know her name.
She's basically alone beside these new adults and Peter B. - and suddenly large groups of grown men are staring at her because holy shit she looks exactly like their sweetheart who they last saw in a goddamn casket.
Like not only is that gonna really throw off Peters mentally - it's probably terrifying for Gwen.
I'm not slagging off Peters here, but I genuinely think that Gwen's first time on campus would draw crowds. It a genuine situation on campus. Like people standing around her at all times until Miguel makes them stop.
Because when you lose someone SO traumatically, and then suddenly they're in front of you without warning - your first reaction would be to stare, and be totally stunned. It's surreal.
Even if you knew it was 'technically possible'. When they're standing there in front of you after you've seen them buried, your brain needs time to process that.
So I do think that her being there would trigger some kind of event on campus, and not in a good way.
Gwen's like 'How do these people - these GUYS know me? What's this crowd for? Why are some of them crying? This is scary.'
She's 16 for christ's sake.
And then someone has to explain to her who she is, and how she dies. Come on now.
Imagine someone being like 'Oh yeah you break ur back and die from a fall in literally every universe lol. Anyway can you go out and swing at high altitude after an anomaly? thanks, don't fall! - just kiddin'
Wouldn't you be like 'nah actually i wanna never leave my room'?. That could instill a level of fear that's paralyzing because you're waiting for the other Gwen shoe to drop (sorry had to take the pun)
Or even worse -
You're Gwen literally just existing and a grown Peter comes up to you and just shows you your own funeral photo. Like ?????????????? You'd be there like ?????????????????????!!!!!
HOW DO YOU REACT TO THAT???? How do you stop that??? How do you explain or process that?????
That scenario is completely possible in the context of Spiderverse!!
How do they explain to people like Gwen or Hobie their 'PLACE' in the universe?
Especially someone like Hobie who isn't with the shits to begin with.
In the comics, we see Pavitr reflect on The Spider Society and race - and when entire identities are dragged into it - it's going to get confusing.
Did they TELL Hobie's he's Prowler? Would he even believe them?
Or did they let him come across a Prowler only to see them and be like 'M8 that's me that's literally me standing there'
Once again, you may theoretically know it's possible. But also - the human brain isn't made to process that. In the moment you have no idea how you'd react, realistically speaking.
The situation in itself goes entirely against the brain's understanding of fate, reality, and your entire personhood.
Seeing yourself from 3rd person doing actions you would not do is like - forced depersonalization and disssociation. IRL.
You are literally being depersonalized from your actual basic identity. Dissociated and forced to watch from an outside view - except it's not something your brain is doing - IT'S THE UNIVERSE and you're watching it in real time.
There has to be some way all of these people are like - capable of processing all this in a natural way like a university - with some sort of mental support and coaching. It wouldn't be possible without it.
If Webslinger can walk around and see flying cars in Neuva York and not care, then something had to get him to that point.
Timeline wise - I can only guess classes are separated based on need and classifications which I spoke about here.
A Mental Health Course & Identity Coaching for Peters - to help them resecure their identity in a sea of copies
A Mental Health Course & Identity Coaching for 'Not Peters' - like Pavitr
A Mental Health Course & Identity Coaching for Duplicates - like Gwen & Hobie, to help them 'regain autonomy' in a universe in which they are a rarity or a 'lucky chance'
ADDITIONALLY:
For their own safety and privacy people like Gwen and Felicia Hardy (NightSpider) stay in separate dorms, so they're not exposed to Peter's. (not that NightSpider stays on campus. Her penthouse is nice AF)
When a Peter experiences a Gwen Stacy canon event Gwen is put on a short sabbatical - usually Miguel just tells Hobie to keep her in his universe. This is one of the only times he'll tell Hobie to do this, but it's just easier and safer if she's not there.
Villainy Monitoring: For Hobie - extra surveillance, for a number of reasons. But Lyla also calculates his rates of villainy. They're always INCREDIBLY low, and Hobie's file indicates there's basically a 0 percent chance of him going Prowler - BUT it is something they check for. This would go for any other 'Villainous Duplicates' like Harry Osborns who become Spider-man.
Even though she's not too dangerous, NightSpider is considered a light antagonistic-but-not-evil 'Villainous Duplicate' designation in her file.
But those would have to be just the basics.
........... And now that I read this back I see that I may have went a bit off the rails...... hm.
Um...anyway I don't know where I was going for this and I'm not even sure this is what you asked for but I think it's SO interesting psychologically suhkfgdfjgkdf
This also gave me a lot of ideas for how the universes work and the web and how close different universes are but that's a whole other jar of worms.
But if you made it this far PLEASE PLEASE tell me how you think Hobie and Gwen and Your Spidersona would adjust to Spider Society! I'm curious!
..........I don't know how to end this. Thank you for this ask tho!! Here Hobie
(my face after saying the most random shit known to humankind without proofreading and then hitting post like i did something)

11/16/2015 - "I was out here in Cali, I was with Bally - Yung Lean"
*Behind the scenes from Music video for the song "El Chapo" by Yung Lean & Ballout, directed by @whoisNorthstar and visually produced by @twincityceo-blog.
HQ Pictures
* credit - JerryPHD | Flickr Social media pictures
*"El Chapo" was a single intended for release on a joint EP by Yung Lean & Ballout, but unfortunately, the EP wasn't finished. However, a few songs from 2015-2016 were leaked and can still be found on YouTube. It's no coincidence that both artists share a similar vibe, and their respective groups are often compared based on their sound, style, and demeanor. But why is that?
*Since the early days of SADBOY'S & GRAVITY BOYS (DRAIN GANG), the artists in this group have been influenced by Glory Boyz. In the early 2010s, Glory Boyz were one of the most popular groups among teenagers who listened to rap. The unapologetic, "don't give a f***" attitude of this group attracted a diverse fan base, and the members of Sadboy's didn't realize at the time that they would be involved. Yung Lean has mentioned many times that it was difficult to find someone with a similar music taste in their country, and for some people, they experienced uncomfortable stares from others as Glory Boy's music played loudly from the speakers.
*Yung Lean even answered a question in MONTREALITY interview (2019) about where he sees himself at 86 years old
"I'm 86 years old and I'm in the bathtub with two crocodiles they like pet crocodiles because real crocodiles have gone extinct, they're like small and paint and they're crawling all over me I'm drinking nice Moroccan coffee and I'm listening to old Chief Keef demos and just like beautiful women everywhere exotic pets and I don't know I go down and check the mail and yeah that's it".

What would a jealous Sephiroth act like if someone else was trying to hit on his Darling? Pre-relationship wise (where they're very close but not yet a couple) and when they are in a relationship ?
I think this lovely gif of Mikasa would describe the Crisis Cutie's reaction well in both situations..
༻❁༺ Pre-relationship Sephiroth
...was consumed by an anger, jealousy and envy he couldn't make sense of. There are a lot of things he hears within the Shinra HQ that he couldn't care less about, but this? The sound of the other person's honeyed words and his darling's giggle will drive him to such a state that he'll slam the door open and make his presence known. The ferocity of his force tore off the door's hinges... Sephiroth watched in silence as the person flirting with his darling scurried away like the vermin they were. His darling's voice was laced with fear and concern as she asked if Sephiroth was alright. The sound of his darling's voice, worried and full of care, slowly soothed his intense emotions, allowing him to regain control and apologize to her. His darling's sweet grin would bring a comforting warmth to Sephiroth's heart as he heard her sweetness again, as she thanked him for getting rid of a nuisance. His face would light up with a gentle smile of his own, silently conveying his assurance to always protect her.
༻❁༺ Now relationship Sephiroth...
Of course, the same visual reaction, but the person flirting with his darling could hear the faint notes of One Winged Angel playing in the background. They paid no mind to the chill in the air as they continued to exchange endearing words with his darling. But when the door is slammed open, they'll stammer out an apology before scurrying away. Sephiroth's darling would immediately spring into action, her hands brushing against his shoulder in a calming gesture before he did something he'd regret. She would cup Sephiroth's cheek, her thumb lightly tracing his skin, and ask him how much did he sleep last night, to which he would sheepishly admit very little as he looks down. His darling would gently uplift his chin and tell him to follow her, so she can get him caught up.

Summary: Tifa finds Cloud at the train station in Sector Seven. It’s the first time she’s seen him in seven years. But he’s not alone. Three silver haired boys protected him. Three silver haired boys that triggered memories of her hometown. Of steel through her chest. Of SOLDIER First Class. Of Him.
They must escape while they still can.
Please Enjoy!
Inspired by the prompt by @im-totally-not-an-alien
Chapter 13: City Escape
The elevator rang as the party entered the second highest floor of Shinra HQ. Without hesitation, Genesis and Strife sprung into action, knocking every receptionist and security guard unconscious, and Barret destroyed the security cameras.
“Tie them up,” Strife ordered as he aided in the task he commanded. Red and Barret looked at each other and shrugged. Tifa stepped up, Loz following and helping as they collected wires. Aerith watched Yazoo with a hand placed on his shoulder, the engraved nameplate still firmly within his grasp.
“We need to find a way down,” Red mentioned, almost leaning toward the glass elevators.
“Gotta go up to go down,” Barret explained. “The president's keycard’s the perfect way to do it.”
“Then let’s not waste any time.” Their leader stepped forward, moving the staff members to the center of the hall with his right hand, the smallest silver child still supported by his left. “What do you know about the president’s office?”
“It's a large waste of space with one desk near the helipad,” Genesis answered first.
“Oh good, it didn’t change-” The older blond cut himself off, blue eyes wide.
“What’s wrong?”
“...Let’s find out,” Strife avoided the question as he, Tifa, and Loz tied the employees together for one final measure. Once again, Strife and Genesis led the group, Barret at the ready to block out visuals. Though in all honesty, they didn’t have too much extra time. Security would only be delayed with their preparation, not prevented. Someone would notice the camera malfunctions. It was only a matter of time.
The group climbed up the final staircase, red carpet muffling their steps. Strife pushed open the double doors at the top, revealing the massive office decorated with thick pillars and black tile. At the far window sat the president’s desk, President Shinra shocked and scrambling the moment he caught sight of them.
Genesis practically flew across the room, grabbing the president around the neck and forcing him to step away from the desk. “Ah ah ah, can’t have you grabbing any weapons, can we? Or maybe trigger the silent alarm?”
Bullets destroyed the security cameras. The party stepped forward.
“Genesis Rhapsodos. What a surprise. Aren’t you supposed to be in the gutter with all the other failed lab rats?” The commander in chief feigned strength but failed to contain the fearful crack in his voice.
“Good to see you too, Mr. President. How’s your son doing? Still trying to learn how to fight? Say, do you think he can take on a former First? I’d love to see him try.”
“We didn’t get to talk much last time,” Barret joined in. “Feelin’ like listenin’ now?”
As the group zeroed in on the Shinra, Strife glanced between the man and the doors repeatedly.
“Pathetic,” President Shinra huffed, trying to wriggle out of the SOLDIER’s grip. With Tifa’s encouragement, Loz hopped behind the desk and searched through the drawers.
“Look. I’ll let you off easy today. Make a simple statement about how Shinra knows it’s killin’ the planet, and get us a car to get outta here. Sound good?”
The silver child handed the redhead two computer cables.
“Perfect. Thank you.” Genesis immediately restricted gilded hands. The extra silence the president.
Loz turned back to the group, holding up a retractable lanyard with an ID slipped in a plastic pouch. “Found his keycard…” his voice was still shrouded in grief.
“Thank you, Loz,” Tifa gave an attempt at a smile. Luckily the boy reacted with the same fluttering confusion as always. At least that was still effective.
“This is wrong,” Strife stated, nearly in shock.
“What is?”
“He’s supposed to be dead already.”
“Who kills him?” Strife’s young self questioned immediately, and if Strife was in his shoes, he would do the same.
“Sephiroth.”
“Who disappeared after Mother did…” Yazoo finished at barely a whisper, clutching the metal closer.
“But what would that change?” Aerith asked. “He's only one person.”
Strife thought for a moment, wishing he could word his next statement softly. “...This is the president that approved the fall of the Sector Seven Plate. And the Sector Five Plate. Just because we stopped them doesn't mean they won't try anything like it again. Keeping him in charge isdangerous. The current Vice President won't allow plans of mass casualties. Trust me.”
“He's more useful alive than dead,” Barret countered. “He can at least shut down a few reactors!”
“We don't have enough time.” Cloud adjusted the boy in his arms. “We need to get out of here before security arrives.”
The president grunted before attempting to open his mouth, but the wire muffled his voice.
“But who's going to do it…?” Tifa realized softly. “I mean, even in AVALANCHE, killing the president wasn't the goal. It's not going to stop the other directors from running the same reactors…”
“I'll do it,” The Crimson Soldier volunteered, though the cat-like playfulness vanished from his voice.
“Hold on a minute-”
“This man allowed the science department to ruin the lives of everyone I knew, including myself. I've done many horrible things, but as they say, you regret the things you didn't do too, yes? And I regret letting you live just as much as all I did.”
The group looked at each other. The flower girl that cherished life found herself turning away, guiding the long haired boy who followed her every caring command. The bartender held the largest boy's hand and led him down the stairs of the desk. The gun armed man glanced at the red furred creature they rescued from the labs. The beast shrugged, a pitiless stare given to the Commander in Chief. The smallest silver boy balled his hands in the purple SOLDIER sweater. The blonds nodded to each other before nodding at the Crimson Soldier.
“To become the dew that quenches the land
To spare the sands, the seas, the skies
I offer thee this silent sacrifice.”
With a swift slash of a crimson blade, the gilded corpse fell to the ground.
“Now how are you planning to get out of here?” Genesis questioned casually.
“In my time, we used the Hardy Daytona and three wheeled pick-up truck in the lobby,” Strife explained before glancing around. “...Shoot…”
The group looked at each other. There were simply too many of them for one truck and one motorcycle.
“I can take one of you, but I’m afraid one is my passenger limit.” The man in red mentioned.
“We won't have to get far with all of us…” Cloud thought aloud, his hand absently trailing the child's medical robe. “If I can get one of security's motorcycles…”
Aerith turned to Genesis, her bow bobbing with a tilt of her head. “Can you take any of us? Any at all?”
“Of course.”
The girl in pink glanced at the man with a gun for an arm.
There was a pause. “Oh hell no.”
Tifa perked up. “She's right. Barret, if space is the issue-”
“I don't know this guy! Why can't he just take the boys?”
Genesis glanced up, almost reminiscent. “It would be a very rough ride. Especially once Shinra starts firing on us.”
“Ride on what?”
Even Strife didn't know the answer to that question.
The Crimson Soldier let out a small sigh before extending his arm, a massive crooked wing expelling from his back. Ebony feathers gently glided through the air.
Everyone stepped back. The two older boys nearly hissed.
“What the hell?!” Barret's question boomed through the office.
“Strife found me in a secret underground lab and you’re still surprised? Shinra's experiments did this to me. I'll explain when we are not actively running out of time. According to Strife, you ran to Kalm after escaping Shinra in his time. I'll fly west to divert the army and we'll meet you in Kalm when things die down.”
“Barret, you don't let anyone talk down to you either. You’ll keep him in line,” Cloud mentioned, softening the father's resolve.
“If you try any funny business, pretty boy, I'll blow your head clean off.”
Genesis brushed his hair into place. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
Cloud and Strife glanced around the room. There were still so many of them. Cloud, Red, and the three boys would barely fit in the truck. But it would have to do until they could steal another vehicle.
Loz opened his mouth, but Yazoo grabbed him, silencing him with stern eyes.
“Let's put this keycard to use,” Tifa held up the item as she spoke. See you in Kalm, Barret.”
“Good luck,” Barret grumbled as Genesis opened the doors to the helipad. The rest of the group claimed both elevators and rushed down to the lobby, half ahead and half waiting behind to catch Shinra’s forces off guard.
* * *
The first group obeyed the command to freeze at the bottom level of the lobby, completely surrounded by troops ready to fire. The head of security walked straight through the defenses and mocked the escapees. The team stood at the ready, waiting for Strife’s entrance.
“Tell me, what is this ragtag group of misfits I see before me?”
“Ex-SOLDIER.”
“Local florist.”
“Lab-rat dog.”
The boys didn’t even answer, Loz clutching the vial of ashes as Yazoo tightened the headplate. Kadaj barely moved, only tightening in Cloud’s hold.
“And the ‘Sephiroth Remnants’ Hojo wants back,” Heiddiger spoke for them. “Where are the others?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know, meanie!” Loz shouted.
“Adorable. Very mature.” The director barked a laugh before ordering his men, “Capture the children and the Ancient. Feel free to kill the rest.”
Aerith took Loz’s right hand and Yazoo’s left, blocking the clear path forward. The director scowled at her sacrificial display before a rumble suddenly rang through the room. With a rev of the engine, Strife sprang into action on the Hardy Daytona, knocking down all units as he maneuvered the bike like an extension of himself. Each troop fell to his sword and skills as Tifa started the truck. Only the director remained standing when Strife turned away.
“Get in!” Tifa yelled once she was close, throwing the door open. The largest child launched into the bed, but the middle one was taken by the red beast by the scruff of his clothes. Both boys sat against the glass to protect what they could of Mother.
The flower girl took the passenger seat before holding out her arms. “Let me take him, Cloud. He’ll be safer up front.”
Kadaj strained the fabric of Cloud’s sweater, his breath strained and audible.
“Just until we’re home free. I promise,” The ex-SOLDIER quickly but carefully lowered the boy into Aerith’s lap, deliberately removing the child’s hands. She swiftly moved the boy between her and Tifa on the seat and slammed the door. Cloud hopped into the bed as Kadaj shivered, curling into the tightest ball the boy could manage.
They barely fit, but for now, it was enough.
Strife led the charge, knocking back the last security officers and shattering the glass with the fusion sword. Red and Cloud tried to shield the boys from the shatter as they launched through the air and roughly landed on the abandoned expressway.
“Everyone okay?” Aerith turned back.
“Can’t complain,” Red answered immediately. “No one is injured.”
“We’re not in the clear yet. Take a breather but be ready.” Cloud watched the skies and the onramps. Drivers kept their eyes on the road, but passengers adjusted within the larger vehicle.
Yazoo slowly placed the headplate into Loz’s lap. At the protest and surprise, he simply lifted his pistol and glanced at the road.
“Are you sure?”
“I have better aim and we both know it… Keep it safe…”
Loz nodded softly, holding both of Mother’s remains to his chest. Red gave the boys a curious, sorrowful look, but when turning to Cloud for an answer, none was given. The ex-SOLDIER remained on watch.
In the front cabin, Aerith slowly revealed a green materia to the child at her side.
Once mako blue eyes caught the orb, he shook his head frantically, squeezing into himself.
“Just a small, normal healing spell, okay?”
Another shake of silver hair.
“I can control this spell way better than the other one. You’ll be safe. And I’ll stop it right away if something happens, alright?”
Kadaj ducked, holding his head against his knees.
“One cure,” She pushed. “Just one and if you even feel a little itchy I’ll stop, okay?”
The boy didn’t move. Three seconds passed without a proper response before the orb in the flower girl’s hand began to glow, and a soft green swirled into the boy’s heart. The driver cringed in preparation, but the boy did not make a sound.
He glanced at the girl in pink, silent and confused.
“See? Now we can heal you up once we’re out of here. I’m so sorry I hurt you.”
Tifa sighed in relief, but Kadaj looked down.
“We've got company!”
Drivers checked their mirrors, and passengers turned back, watching Shinra approach on multiple motorcycles and fully armed trucks. Helicopters whirred in the distance, out of sight but certainly on the hunt.
Fusion Sword and Buster Sword at the ready, anyone who could prepared for the fight as the drivers stepped on it. Beyond the capacity limit, the pickup truck could not accelerate as quickly or maintain as high of a velocity as the Hardy Daytona, and Strife needed to fall back in order to protect them.
“I'll keep them away,” Strife shouted as officers drove up from behind. “Focus on the road!”
Bullets shot through the air, Strife weaving and drifting through the expressway to take down every last enemy on the road. The occasional shot from the long haired Sephiroth remnant no doubt aided their escape. Everything was the same until the helicopters caught up with them, launching explosives to catch their party in the blast. Tifa swerved repeatedly, trying to avoid the fires while maintaining top speed.
It was only a matter of time before flames surrounded them for a moment, most occupants yelling in pain and bracing for impact.
“Tifa, get close to one of the troops,” Cloud commanded.
“What?! Are you crazy?!”
“Too much is going on. You need to keep everyone safe. We can draw their attention. They won't have the manpower to aim for all of us.”
Strife knocked another troop off of a Shinra sanctioned motorcycle and caught the handlebars with his blade. “Get on!”
Cloud launched, the truck jostling as if hitting a bad pothole from the force alone.
“Be careful, Big Brother!” Loz shouted from his spot next to the red creature before ducking under a new wave of bullets.
The blond landed on the vehicle and Strife swiftly removed the blade. Every second they wasted on this transition meant more firepower focused on the truck. Cloud grabbed the handlebars with his left hand and the Buster Sword with his right. Together they swept through Shinra's ground forces, men knocked off their vehicles and rolled on the unforgiving pavement.
Yet again, the company adapted.
“Brace!” Red yelled, pinning the two boys against the cab with his body. Tifa tried to swerve, but the rockets landed in an impenetrable line on the road.
Everyone screamed as they ran through the fire.
“Tifa!” Cloud shouted first, barely acknowledging his own pain from the flames.
“We're okay! For now… I don’t know how many more hits this thing can take!”
Cloud turned to his future self. “Can you reach those helicopters?”
Strife scanned the curved walls of the expressway and tightened his grip on his sword. Not enough. “Stay in the back. I'll disperse the fires.”
“That won't be enough.”
“Do you have a better idea?”
He didn't. With multiple helicopters communicating attacks at once, each reload threatened everyone's lives. They couldn't turn back. No exits existed on this decommissioned highway. They needed a miracle. A guardian angel.
Bullets rained down upon the circling aerial blades, one helicopter colliding with the other before another attack launched. The team looked up, searching for the source. A man in red with one black wing carried a one armed man through the air.
“Long time no see!”
“Barret!” Tifa couldn’t help but look.
“We couldn’t just leave you with these assholes!”
“You looked like you required assistance.” Genesis flapped his wing and the two rose in the air, ready for the next strike.
From both above and below, their party was unstoppable. From the smallest troop to the latest and greatest in weapon technology, the team shook Shinra’s defenses and met in the plains beyond the city of mako.

Three Guards Chapter List
Author’s Note: Well, this is the end of Remake! I made a plan long before Rebirth launched and I plan on continuing it. Some Rebirth elements will appear, but the whole ending just does NOT fit with my plan. …for now at least. I won’t go into spoilers without warning at the beginning of a chapter. For now, you’re all safe! I hope you’re enjoying this story. It’s a lot of fun.
I’m starting my first real job soon! I won’t be able to update as much but I’m very excited to enter the workforce. I won’t be abandoning any of my current stories. I promise.
Thanks for reading!

Masked Menace (Part 2) - Yunobo x Reader (NSFW)
Whewwww this one was both long and apparently, long awaited! Thank you everyone for your patience, I appreciate you all being supportive. For my Yunobo lovers: I got you always ❤️ Reader is written female/afab. Again there are some Tears of the Kingdom spoilers for characterization and setting the scene for Goron City below. Please be aware of that!
Since Yunobo had left to figure out whoever was calling him to Goron City, you made your way back home - right above YunoboCo HQ. It didn’t occur to you how taxing the trek to Eldin would be, and after a quick soak in the hot springs and changing into some flowy linens you found yourself fast asleep in the bedrock in Yunobo’s room. Your rest was dreamless, far too much for you to make sense of right now - so your mind instead chose not to.
Suddenly, you were shaken awake by the sounds of unbearable screeching. Thinking something was looking to attack Goron City, you swiftly made your way to the front entrance of the building. Slergo and Offrak were running toward you, arms waving in some sort of excitement.
“They did it! They did it!” yelled Slergo, stopping short in front of you. Offrak tapped his friend’s back, a toothy smile following, “Yunobo and Link fixed the city!”
You peered down at them in surprise, Link was back? Last you remembered he had gone missing for months after he informed Yunobo he was heading to the Hyrule Castle depths. Then when the Upheaval happened…he was gone without a trace. You wracked your brain for an answer; if Link returned, then maybe that was the ‘someone’ Yunobo was referring to. Your hands were grabbed by the two Goron children, who led you outside to the source of their elation. Immediately you saw purpled smoke evaporating above Death Mountain - the same that left the cave systems around YunoboCo. All three of you snagged a mining cart back to Goron City, more questions on your mind than ever before at the sudden shift in disposition with the two younglings you were with. Were they not just terrified of Yunobo earlier that day? You thought to ask them once your cart finally hit Goron City, but the incredible wave of cheers and excitement drowned out all of your thoughts. At the entrance of the city actually stood Link, the silent hero you had come to be good friends with through the years, and standing next to himwas the reason your spine held a chill. The boys ran ahead of you, unable to contain their joyful shouting amongst the rest of the Gorons. While more often than not you’d be thrilled to see your beau amongst his people, smiling and laughing, after earlier - you felt an air of apprehension. Was he back to normal? Was everything actually okay? He seemed that way…the odd golden mask and other accessories you recollected him adorning were gone now; all he wore was the Boulder Breaker on his back and the YunoboCo chest plate that you were so familiar with. Yet the vision of his harsher treatment of you and the way he overpowered you fairly easily was still fresh in your mind, your face giving way to a shuddering blush. Yunobo somberly thanked everyone for their well wishes and praise, though it was clear that he held a considerable amount of shame - both for the fate of Goron City and especially for his actions. You watched on as he assured the community was back to normal now and that with his new power, he would keep Goron City safe. The sting in your shoulder flashed in a dull ache, and your arms came around your body. Your stomach was doing flips - you needed some time before you could think to approach Yunobo right now. On your heel you turned, saving your opportunity to speak to him for when he arrived home.
What you missed, however, was the set of saddened eyes that watched you walk away.
——
Nightfall came. The tired steps of Gorons returning home from mining for the day was your visual as you watched them rolling and carting back into the city. The sigh that left you was a hefty one; after the day you’d had, it still wasn’t over. Not until…
A soft knock sounds behind you. You hear your name.
You turn slowly, anxiety only creeping up your limbs when you see the remorseful figure of your boyfriend standing in the doorway. Yunobo struggles to meet your gaze, his hands clasped nervously in front of him - it reminds you of when he was younger. There’s some hesitance in you to move, but you do anyway, leaning your head down to try and catch his eyes.
“Are you…okay?” you start, eyebrows turned up in concern. His head drops a bit, choosing to look at his fidgeting hands. He swallows thickly, “I should be asking you that.”
He’s beating himself up internally, you can see it. Your exhale is a little on the louder side, and you turn away from him to try to ease his nerves. One hand finds your opposite elbow, closing around your frame. There’s an awkwardness in the air, both of your thoughts trained on the events that have transpired between you both this morning. The conversation is unavoidable and yet neither of you know where to even start. Eyes closed you say softly, “I’m fine, Yuno…I just…wanted to be sure you were.”
Yunobo straightens up, making his way into the bedroom with careful steps. He had been so unlike himself, so abrasive and rude to so many people. Knowing that, he’s fearful of what he might’ve said or done, but he knows he can’t just let things be as they are right now. “I’m okay now, I promise. I’m sorry it took me so long to come home, I—“
A slight breeze in the city rolls through the window, shuffling the loose linen you wore off of your shoulders. A thunderous pause hits the Goron when he sees it: teeth marks, big and slightly bruising on your shoulder blade…teeth marks that look exactly like his. He feels his chest cave in, the world around him falling to stunned silence. No wonder you wouldn’t look at him. No wonder you didn’t meet him in Goron City after he’d come back from Death Mountain.
No. Wonder.
His voice was barely audible to you; an airy, hurt murmur, “I hurt you…”
The meekness in his tone had your attention reverted back on him. Your hand shot to your sore shoulder, “W-What?”
He watched your hand smooth over the same area he’d just seen. Yunobo’s hands trembled at the realization, his memory starting to piece together the events of this morning. How he grabbed your arm, spoke to you so aggressively, ravaged you like a mindless beast — and left that bite to your shoulder. Falling to his knees, he clutched his head in horror and disbelief.
“…I…hurt you…!” croaked the champion, the tears catching in his throat, “I know it’s the mask’s fault but…I didn’t think it would…I-I can’t believe I didn’t…”
It was your turn to feel heartbreak. The guilt he felt was palpable, and to see him in full on tears had you ready to sob yourself. You were at his side immediately, your hands prying his large ones off himself in order to place your arms there. Gingerly you cradled his head, pressing his ear to your chest. Fingers carded through his hair, “It’s okay, Yuno…I’m okay. I was just scared something horrible had happened to change you,”
Your bottom lip shook as you remembered the sneer he gave you while under that mask’s possession, “I thought I’d lost you, the real you.”
Yunobo hugged your frame tighter to him, his hands covering your back entirely.
“My love, I….Hylia, I’m so so sorry…” whimpered the Goron, his head nuzzling into your chest even further, “I would never want to hurt you, you know that, right?”
Gently you pulled from his embrace, your hands sliding down to his cheeks to pull his face upright. He blinked up at you, remorse and apologies swimming in his tearful gaze. You lent him a sympathetic smile, “Not only do I know it, but you never really hurt me, sweetheart, it looks worse than it feels.”
Pressing your forehead to his you whispered, “I’m just glad you’re okay now.”
You pull him to his feet to lead him towards your bed. A little comfort and close proximity is the remedy you think you both need right now. The clank of his metal chestplate sounded not too far off whilst you slid off your slippers. As you laid down, Yunobo gingerly wrapped his arm around your waist. You felt him fix his chin to sit at the top of your head, the warmth of his chest spreading across your back. There was tension in his hold - something still weighed on his mind. Touching his hand, you whispered, “What’s wrong, Yuno? I can feel your nervousness.”
The Goron sighs, he knows nothing gets past you when it comes to reading him, “…Are you sure I didn’t hurt you?”
The guilt you two feel is visible on both of your faces, though neither of you can see them. Yunobo in dire straits for thinking he’s brought you to harm, and you because you can hear how downright awful he feels about it. You are sure, but it seems like he’s beyond convincing. A thought pops in your head, however. Leaning your head back, you look up at the slightly bewildered champion, “Maybe you’d like to kiss it better?”
After all, what could be nicer (in your mind) than to have something “bad” be replaced with something good, right? Yunobo’s cheeks flush for a moment, his hands lifting off of your frame as he absorbs your words.
“I…u-um…!” but his stuttered response doesn’t stop you from moving. Within a moment’s notice you’re sitting upright with your back to him, your fingers pulling the very flowy shirt you wore to fall off of you completely, exposing your afflicted shoulder. Yunobo’s fussing comes to a silence, and you can feel him eyeing your skin. You breathe for two counts before large palms smooth over your forearms. Though you can’t see his face, you can sense his displeasure, feel the furrow in his brow. His voice is low, a wilted whisper into your hair, “…I’m sorry.” His kisses begin at the top of your head, trailing to your cheek and eventually down the expanse of your neck. Your hum is pleased, and he continues. His lips press gently over the bite marks, an outpour of love and regret in such a light gesture. He kisses over the spot a multitude of times, as if to cover the bruising skin with the care it deserves: his tender affection to bleed over the possessive blemishes he left on you. Yunobo’s arms come around you fully now, pressing you into his chest. His lips are at your ear, “You mean the world to me, you know…I can’t imagine my life without you in it,” you’re turned in his hold, your cheek being caressed by a warm touch, “Please…let me make it up to you?” Though you felt there was nothing for him to make up for, you knew better by now than to argue the point. Yunobo’s guilt was more than just a simple mark on your shoulder - it was about him jeopardizing being the Goron you wanted, the Goron you deserved. He cared so deeply for you, and after treating you the way he did, possessed or not, he couldn’t let your last intimate encounter with him be what it was today. Replace the careless nature of his possessed aggression with sensations of love and want; Yunobo would rewrite his name on your body. You realized this; with you leaning into his touch you simply replied, “Okay, Yunobo.” His smile was soft, but genuine, a thumb coming to stroke the apple of your cheek. “Lie back, my love,” he gestured, letting you go so you could move. Heart pounding in your chest, your thoughts already flurrying as to what he could want you to lie down for. You took a deep breath, stretching out to full length across the stone mattress. Yunobo took your hand, pressing a kiss to your knuckles before capturing your lips once more in an impressionable kiss. Your cheeks felt of soft fire as you returned it, your hand shooting up to caress the side of his face. The kiss, though an apt inkling of how you felt for one another, was brief. Your Goron had other plans in mind - ones that began at the feeling of lips touching your jawline. They trailed upward, just under your ear, and then further down - gentle kisses dotting a pathway along the sensitive spots of your neck and throat. Your fingers curled at his chest, palms shuddering there and growing desperate to take hold of him with the way he was kissing downward. A thumb rubbed gentle circles into your hip, his warm breath rolling over the very shoulder that caused him so much grief. A quick stuttered huff before he littered featherlight kisses over the afflicted area. He wanted to shower you in nothing but devotion whenever the opportunity arose - so to make up for the pain he had caused you, he did exactly what you had asked and replaced those ugly marks with his true feelings. Each mark and groove of his previous bite was covered in kisses of adoration, appreciation, regret, iniquity, and of them all most prevalent: love. You swooned in his affections, his name a breathy quiver on your lips. Soon his soothing fingers slid up the curve of your hips, resting just at the waistband of your linen pants. “May I…?” came Yunobo’s question, pausing entirely to await your response. Your response followed with an affirmative hum, your own hands smoothing over the broad expanse of his biceps and shoulders. A final kiss to your shoulder and he moved south, slowly relinquishing you of the sole piece of clothing that covered your lower half. Your heart fluttered at the sight of him: slightly flushed but hunger and determination swimming across his features. His head lowered upon you, beginning his trail of kisses once more. They would cover just under your navel, descending downward to hit points on your hip bone, your inner thighs, out to your knee and ending at your calf. You felt an overwhelming wave of tenderness hit you at how sweetly he treated your body, his careful kisses and comforting touches reminding you of who he really was: your beloved boyfriend, the Goron you were hopelessly in love with, and above all else: your equal. So when his kisses eventually lined the length of your other leg and made its way to the place between your thighs, he intended to reiterate that very last fact to you. Your last encounter with him left him taking from you. This time he intended to give. With his hands effectively at your thighs, Yunobo parted them slowly, your slit on full display in front of the Goron champion. It finally clicked what his next objective was, and your hand gingerly laid on top of his own, “You don’t have to, Yuno…” He laughed something airy, shuffling himself at the end of the bed. With a firm grip on your hips, he pulled you down with him. You often forgot how strong he could truly be, even after the most recent events (and especially with how delicately he just finished kissing your body) it always threw you and your loins for a loop when an ounce of his real strength moved you about so easily. His hands came up under your thighs once more, settling them open and allowing himself to take his place between them. A chaste kiss to the inner corner of your thigh, “I want to,” you trembled slightly at the feeling of him exhaling over your mound, “I want to make you…feel good…” and with his broken sentence at an end, he slid his tongue into your entrance. Your breath was hitched upon intake, the warm and wet appendage immediately rolling to devour your wetness. With his mouth busied at your heat, Yunobo shifted ever so slightly to rest your knees over the solidity of his shoulders. He would see to it that you fell apart in pleasure; his tongue curled inside of you, lending you low, muffled moans accompanied by the lewd wet slurping of his ministrations. Your fingers found the softness of his hair, your nails combing through the white locks as your back was slowly finding its arch. Lashes flitting shut you whined when the rounded edge of his nose bumped your clit, “Ahh! Yunooo, oh Yunobo…!” He groaned in response, your outcry sparking a fire in his chest. He groaned into your pussy, inhaling another long lick deep inside you. You were falling fast, flits of electricity pulsating in your limbs and deep in your belly. However, as good as his tongue felt within your walls - you needed more, wanted more. Six long months you were without your boyfriend. The Goron who held you at night, made you feel safe; the one who loved you and meant it in everything he did. You needed that Yunobo on your skin.
“Yuno, ungh! Y-Yuno, hold on,” and he would pause, lifting his head in concern. Your hand slid from the top of his head to his cheek, “I…Can we…” you trailed off as you bit your lip. The sheen on his mouth and the darkening of his azure eyes as he watched you intently had your words failing you. With a quick lick of his lips, Yunobo untangled himself from you. You were still in the process of figuring out what exactly it was you wanted to say before you were lifted into his strong arms. Bewildered were you as the world around you turned and then suddenly stilled. A blink. And then another. When you looked down to assess what was happening, you felt a pair of sizable hands rest on your thighs. Yunobo had slotted himself underneath you, sitting you on his torso. He dug his heels into the edge of the bed, scooting you both into the middle. Your hands found his chest as you steadied yourself on him, though the grip he had on your legs would make sure you didn’t fall.
“Is this…okay?” Yunobo asked, streaks of red crossing his rounded cheeks. There was warmth blossoming in your chest, touched by his politeness even though he was so overwhelmed with need. As much as Yunobo was dedicated to making you feel good as he’d promised you, you knew that he too was starting to feel just how harsh a toll six months without you can take. You felt it when he unknowingly ground into you as he was kissing your neck, felt it when his hold on your thighs would grip bruisingly hard for a mere second and then let go as he ate you out. The slightest tremble in his giant palms on your thighs was no different. Reaching behind you, all of these suspicions were confirmed at the hardened length of him that you skimmed your palm down. He was thicker than your wrist, a fact that always made you shudder with excitement. But with your position above him, you understood what he was insinuating by placing you here. He wanted you to take. To make him give it to you (though you both would have no objections of course). The power would be in your hands. Even with the state of his need sitting hard as a rock against your backside, he would still consider you first. You sighed in a swoon, he really was such a sweet man to the end. Your lips turned up in a soft smile, “Yes, Yuno…this is perfect.” With some nerve, you lifted your hips, shifting down his torso. You gave his dick a few quick pumps, a move that earned you a repressed groan, before you pressed your palm into his chest. A deep inhale as you lined him up against your entrance. Yunobo squeezed your thighs for the umpteenth time, the wet heat of your pussy already affecting him. Slowly you slid down on him, your lips parting at the deep stretch of him opening you up. This wasn’t your first, second, nor third time having sex, yet it was always a matter of acclimation to accommodate his size. Both of your hands kept you stable as you took him inch by delicious inch, your legs spreading as you continued your descent down. When you finally felt like you could take no more, you exhaled in a shake. Your eyes opened slowly to see Yunobo seeming to still hold his own breath. Face reddened by his constraint and his arms careful with their grip on you, you couldn’t help but smirk. It was clear how badly he needed you. You pushed off your knees, lifting your hips to set your pace. Immediately desire raced up your spine, Yunobo’s cock allowing you to feel completely full. Your hips would retreat and descend upon his own with some force - with you taking him deep and rather hard despite how slowly you moved. You needed to savor him, the plight of your time away really begging your body to appreciate how good he felt inside of you after being apart for so long.
And he would comply. Though he desperately wanted to sheath himself in your silken heat at a rate that would surely leave you sore - he faltered to you, his love and respect for your desires outweighing his thoughts even now. You began moving faster, needing some speed in the mix of your riding him, your nails now starting to dig into the rough planes of his chest. Yunobo peeked an eye open: the vision awaiting him made him only painfully harder. Your plush lips parted, breathy moans and wanton whines sounding in the beautiful tone that was your voice. He eyed your breasts, full and bouncing from each thrust you laid down on his cock. Finally, he took in the sight of your quivering thighs, the wetness of your pussy shining at your inner thighs - dripping from you and down the length of him to gather at the soft patch of hair just above where you joined. “Hahhh, gods…you f-feel amazing,” Yunobo moaned, his hands skating up to grasp your hips. You would sink down on him faster still, “Mmmf, so do you. But, I…ohhh, I…” You were starting to lose focus, your body trying to chase an end that you were finding yourself struggling to reach. Sensing your building frustration, you were adjusted to sit a little more upright, your Goron beau following suit. A hand snaked behind you to capture your lower back, the other planted firmly on your thigh. “Let me…I’ve gotcha,” was the Goron’s curt rumble in your ear. This angle had Yunobo impossibly deep, and you couldn’t help but to throw your head back from the way he was now fucking up into you. Your arms instinctively went around his shoulders, nails attempting to bite into the impenetrable rock of his upper back. You did not relent, however, as you still swung your hips to try and meet his thrusts. Eventually you lost your own control willingly, his cock penetrating you at a pace you could no longer keep up with. “Yuno, Yuno, Yuno, I–oh god, please…!” The mantra of his name on your lips in tandem with your licentious begging had him gritting his teeth in ardor. Your body was perfect on him, soft and pliant to the roughened hardness that made up his. You balanced him in every conceivable way. He would trade anything to have you in his arms forever like this. And to think he almost jeopardized you… Yunobo growled as he shook the thought, slamming his hips up into you and effectively tearing a scream from your throat. You were cumming hard and fast on his cock, whole body wracked in an explosion of colorful passion that cascaded through every fiber of your being. Clutching desperately around his neck, you sobbed out your affections for him, babbling near unintelligibly about how much you’ve missed him and you deeply you loved him as he continued to feed your body his anguished lust. “I know, nghh, I know, I’msorryI’msorryI’msorry hahhh IloveyouIloveyouIloveyou I…!” You were firmly seated in his lap, his final thrust burying his cock as far you could take him and spilling inside of you. A shiver rolled over the entirety of your body with the force of heat that filled you between your thighs. You held Yunobo close, with his lips placing lazy kisses at your throat, and you gently scratching at the back of his head. It would be some time before he finally pulled out of you, leaving you whimpering from the emptiness. He laughed softly, pressing a kiss to your forehead before laying you down with him. Your back was warmed by his chest, while the mass of his hand laid over your stomach and hips. Shimmying a little further into him, you hummed contently, “I’ll be sore tomorrow, you know.”
The sigh he let out was one of playful defeat, “I’m sure, but this is different…right?” Your hand found his, “Of course - you’re back to yourself now…instead of…well, whoever that mask turned you into.” Yunobo frowned at the memory, “I hope I never see another mask as long as I live.” This made you giggle, and you carefully flipped yourself in his arms, “Fine by me, I prefer to see all of your face anyway,” you lent him a loving grin, “You’re one of my favorite things to look at.” Yunobo’s face flushed wildly at your words, and he squeezed you in close, “Ohhh gosh, when you say things like that…!” He missed your teasing, admittedly. Having you here at home was all he’d wanted ever since you’d left on your expedition. His free hand came to the back of your head, “...I’m so glad you’re back. Welcome home, sweetheart.” You leaned your head on his shoulder, adoration radiating from you in waves, “I’m happy to be home, my love.”

E7 Scene 16 - Party
In contrast to the black and white formality of the main setting, the colors here are lurid secondaries, purple and green. Everybody seems to be having a good time.
Vegas corners Porsche for a talk/flirt. Pete (who said he was going out for a smoke, tsk) gives Kinn an update on the fact that Porsche and Vegas are chatting friendly-like. Maybe too friendly-like. Vegas comes right out with a job offer and promise of freedom... maybe he could even open that bar.
I have a hard time figuring out Porsche in this scene, but overall I'm coming down on "cautious." He seems to like Vegas--who is making himself very likable, although that bit about the bar clearly sounded a weird and possibly alarming note to his audience of one. While Porsche is more aware than he used to be of the family dynamic that recommends distrust, he still tends to chalk a lot of that up to personal jealousy at this point.
Porsche spends most of the evening by himself, until Vegas manages to spill a drink on him, necessitating that they repair to the bathroom to clean him up.
Aside from the lighting, this looks a lot nicer than I would expect for a mafia HQ bathroom. Scent diffusers?!
I feel like the writing for this part was a bit labored, honestly, as can be the case when a story requires characters to misunderstand one another for reasons of plot. The payoff mostly makes up for it.
Kinn arrives (with backup) and is deeply displeased to find his new boyfriend apparently making out with Vegas. We get the first of several scenes with the cousins pointing guns, and I think the only time Kinn ever straight-up pulls rank on Vegas (in his own house, no less). He is pissed at Porsche for like, ten seconds before he gets it slapped into him that no, this really wasn't what it looked like.
Well, fuck. This is not how the evening was supposed to go.
The changes of energy here are wild. These are volatile characters, and this scene is a visual catalog of primal emotions: anger, fear, regret, desire.
For a hot second it seems like we're back in E5, but there's a difference in that neither is trying to escalate. Porsche is hurt, and he'll make that clear. Violence is obviously never great, but context is important; we know what these two are physically capable of, and we know that slap was in no way serious. After that, Porsche is avoidant, not confrontational. Kinn meanwhile wants to keep the encounter going while he figures out how to fix it (without waiting a week this time), which is on him because he was the one who fucked up (again, and he looks way more upset here than he does when he thinks his father is dead, just saying). Nobody wants a fight.
The rest of this scene is body language; even when Kinn says I'm sorry it's as much touch as speech.
I am legit obsessed with how Porsche turns around. His eyes are shut, his hands come down, he looks completely vulnerable for a moment, and Kinn moves back to let the light come through between them. Like what the hell, BOC?
After all the tension that preceded this, it's a pause which is not free of tension, but it's a totally different kind.
I'm also obsessed with that checking-in moment, the non-verbal we good now? and Porsche's hands on Kinn's face, how open he is there, completely unguarded. Literally everything is different from their E4 scene; there's so much smiling. They look happy. As much as this is Porsche jumping into a new world in terms of sex, I am hung up on how different this is from every sexual encounter Kinn has had since Tawan, this messy emotionality and spontaneity compared to what seem to have been almost scripted appointments.
The camera focus shifts back and forth in the last few seconds between the light and the two of them before they embrace.
What we learned:
Unlike the main family, the minor family knows how party
Vegas has found out about Porsche's "bar by the beach" dream (he's been talking to Porsche's friends?)
How incredible mutual handjobs in a bathroom can look on screen

Ride With Me - Chapter 16, Finding Jade
Summary: Bucky shows up unannounced at Ma’s place outside Santa Fe. Jade, initially excited to see him, gives him a hard time when he asks her to take him back.
Length: 5.6K
Characters: Bucky Barnes, Jade, Ben, Ma.
Warnings: For readers over the age of age of 18+ due to sexual content. Minors do not interact. Residual anger at Bucky mostly as Jade acts like a bitch towards him.
Author’s notes: final chapter. Originally my apocalyptic tale was much more bleak, filled with angst and suffering but as the story progressed it became more about people finding connection and hope. Especially Bucky, who never wanted to be looked upon as a leader and decided to go back to get Steve, knowing the group needed his reliable authority. It allowed Bucky, without that pressure on him, to come up with a low-tech tactic that he could test with strangers before offering it to the Avengers. Finally, about Jade...I didn't want the usual pretty girl. The model, whose image I used on the cover, is an Australian, Ollie Henderson. For a time she went all blonde to get a totally different look from her usual brunette hair. Jade had to be visually, mentally and psychologically different due to her childhood trauma with the religious cult. When she took Bucky's memories into her own consciousness I wanted to show how it upset the yin and yang that was their relationship, leading to their breakup.
<<Chapter 15
🏍️🏜️
Eight months after Bucky left the Bunker. Four days after Bucky left New York.
Jade was busy scrubbing the dirt off the rocks she had collected that morning. There were some good specimens in there. Good enough to bring in some money at the rock hounds sale in Santa Fe in a month once she sliced and polished them. The rock hounds club in Albuquerque had asked her to set up a table there but she had declined. Still too many dark memories of that town. She could hear Ben laughing in the house and looked at Ma.
"He's talking to Peter," she said. "He's supposed to be teaching him but they're talking about gaming."
"Can you tell them both to get back at it?" she asked. "Honestly, you would think Peter would know better. I've a good mind to phone May."
Ma laughed. "You're sounding more and more like a normal mother every day," she said. "What happened to you?"
"Don't go there, Ma," said Jade. "It was my decision. Normal mother sounds good to me right now."
She bent back over the bucket and scrubbed too hard on the one stone. She splashed water on her shorts but ignored it as the dry New Mexico air would take care of it. It had been almost nine months since the showdown with the cult in Albuquerque, eight and a half months since they implemented the plan to destroy all the Others' queens, eight months since she last saw or heard from Bucky. That wasn't quite true as he sent a postcard from New York City, showing it being rebuilt after the attack on the Others there. All it said was "Thinking of you, Bucky". That had been over a month ago and since then, nothing from him directly.
Peter had sent out little snippets of information since they all left, complete with links to news video coverage. About six weeks after Bucky left there was a live streaming event of a news crew at Avengers HQ shadowing the various members of the Avengers. Some of them like Steve, Peter and Sam were very open and informative. Scott was very popular being the friendly man that he was in real life. Bucky was reclusive, not wanting to be filmed or interviewed. When they did finally get him in a sit down situation he was abrupt and clearly uncomfortable. The footage of him and Steve taking on a series of nests by themselves and running so fast as they dropped off the flash bangs that they were both a blur was popular, generating a lot of likes on social media.
Just a month and a half ago the Avengers were given the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction and the Congressional Gold Medal for their efforts in fighting the Others. A week later they were interviewed on CBS Mornings in New York in the rebuilt Times Square with fans behind security barriers holding up signs naming their favourites. The signs with Bucky's name were being held by predominantly female fans. His reclusive nature had appealed to a certain type of woman who all thought he should show his face more. The hosts showed a picture of Bucky with his short hair working on his motorcycle to the screams of his female fans. Word from Peter was that Bucky was still debating whether to stay in New York with the Avengers. Apparently his decision was still unknown.
She heard Cherry nicker in her paddock and called to the mare, one of the three horses the Avengers had bought from the outfitter. Cherry was the first one she had connected with and they still had a good relationship, just not a telepathic one anymore. Apple, a chestnut mare, and Butch, a roan gelding, had also made the trip to their home. Clint would have liked to take them to Missouri but thought it was too long a trip to subject them to so when she and Ma moved near Santa Fe after finding that big hunk of gold they brought the horses with them. Drying her hands she went over to the fence.
"What is it, girl?" she asked. "Am I not giving you enough attention?"
She felt inside the food bucket and brought out a piece of carrot for each of them, stroking their necks as they crunched through their favourite vegetable. Two miles away where the road to their property came off the highway she caught the sound of a big motorcycle, loud and loved by gear heads, slowing down on the highway and turning onto their road. At first she thought it was somebody using it to turn around but the dust plume from the rear of the bike kept coming closer. Buddy sat up, his ears perked forward, watching the rider approach.
"We have company!" she yelled.
Ma came forward, peering at the approaching motorcycle. Then a smile crossed her face but she said nothing other than it was a friendly. She went back to her garden leaving Jade to greet the visitor. Jade waited and the biker finally pulled up in front of her. It was a man and after he stopped he tugged off his leather gloves. It was then she noticed the black metal hand.
"Bucky?" she said.
He took his helmet off and she rushed to him.
"Hold on," he said, smiling. "Let me get off the bike."
As soon as he was off the bike she jumped into his arms wrapping her legs around him. He wrapped her in his arms, running his hand through her hair and kissing her when she finally raised her face to his. Buddy started barking happily, his tail wagging as he recognized Bucky. Ma came forward then with a big smile on her face.
"About time you got here," she said. "Poor girl has been pining away for you."
"I wanted to come sooner," he said, "but I had obligations. I'm on leave for a month so I'll be hanging around, if that's okay."
"You're always welcome, Bucky," said Ma affectionately, "always."
Jade was crying now, still wrapped around his waist. He held her like a baby, stroking her back and talking softly into her ear. It took a few minutes before she relinquished her hold on him and turned away, wiping her face. By that time Ben had heard the commotion and came to the door.
"Bucky!" he said, running to him and giving him a hug.
"Jesus, kid," said Bucky, rubbing the boy's hair. "What the hell is your mom feeding you? You've grown almost a foot since I last saw you."
"Ma says it's a growth spurt," replied Ben. "I've got hair growing in strange places, too. And you wouldn't believe what I wake up to some mornings."
Bucky burst out laughing. Ben was still the most direct kid he ever knew, not that he knew many. But if anyone could get through puberty without trauma it would probably be him. Everything was just normal to him.
"How come you never called or wrote?" demanded Jade, anger replacing her tears. "I received one postcard with one sentence in almost eight months. We have a phone you know."
"I know," he said. "I have no excuse other than things have been hectic with the hunt for Others nests. The military is taking over a lot of the hunts now so the Avengers get to go back to being the Avengers."
"Does that mean you're staying in New York?" asked Jade, a little fearful.
"Well, no, not exactly," he said. "I'm staying with the Avengers but they want a permanent presence at the Bunker now. Bruce already decided to stay there and I kind of like the peace and quiet."
"Which is why you have one of the noisiest bikes, right?" said Ma, laughing.
"What can I say, I'm a complicated guy," he said. "Jade, would you take a ride on my bike with me?"
"Only if you go horseback riding with me before dinner," she said. "Those are my terms."
"Fair enough," he said smiling. "I could use a drink and the use of your bathroom."
"Ben, get Bucky a beer," said Ma. "Come sit in the cool of my garden when you're done."
Bucky took his back pack off, and went inside, ducking his head at the low door. Ben pointed to the bathroom. When he came outside he went under the pergola and took his leather jacket off. A beer was sitting on a side table near Jade. She patted the open space beside her. He took a long drink of the beer and looked at the three with warmth. They still felt like family to him.
"Tell us everything," said Ma. "How is everyone?"
"Peter is in university, but you already knew that," he said. "Steve is in charge of the Avengers and is doing a ton of recruiting, Sam is still Captain America. He and Maria went back to Louisiana but he's on call all the time and can pretty much fly anywhere in the country within an hour. Scott and Hope are staying in California but they're on call as well. Clint decided to retire but I think he'll be bored out of his skull in six months. He had a protégé all ready to take over from him, named Kate Bishop. She lived with his family during the occupation. Wanda is Wanda. She'll be there if and when we need her. Strange is kind of working with Steve to find suitable Avenger candidates. King T'Challa died but his sister Shuri and Queen Ramonda lived. They will get Wakanda back on its feet in no time. Still no sign of Thor or the Guardians. New Asgard survived and Valkyrie still rules there. That leaves me. How have you all been?"
"Ma and Bruce are dating," said Ben.
"I just go out there and spend time with him," said Ma quickly. "I wouldn't call it dating. It's not like we go anywhere. We just enjoy each other's company."
"But you do sleep together, Ma," said Jade with a mischievous look in her eyes. "I can tell."
Bucky looked at Ma, smiling. "Seriously?" he said. "You and Bruce? Nice."
She didn't say a thing, just sat there with a small smile on her face.
"Did you ride your motorcycle from New York?" asked Ben.
"I did," said Bucky. "I packed some clothes in my back pack and headed out on the road, all the way here."
"What are your intentions?" asked Jade, suddenly.
"That's why I want you to take a ride with me," replied Bucky.
"Take the ride, Mom," said Ben. "Oh, sorry, was that out loud?"
"You've been hanging out with Peter too much," said Bucky smiling. "But he's right. Take the ride with me, Jade, please."
She agreed and when Bucky finished his beer she put on her jean jacket, which was actually his jean jacket that she stole when they still lived in the Bunker. He looked at her bare legs beneath her shorts.
"You should put some jeans on," he said.
"I'm fine," she said. "Lead on."
He shrugged and gave her his helmet to wear. Then he mounted the bike, started it up, and waited for her to get on and wrap her arms around him. He carefully drove the two mile road to the highway and set off for wherever he fancied. After about 15 minutes he saw a sign for a state park lookout and pulled into it. She got off the bike and took the helmet off. He lifted his right leg over the bike and sat facing her, pulling her in close. She lifted her right leg and leaned on him with her knee on his thigh.
"I am sorry," he said, touching her face. "I should have never left but all I heard in my head was you telling me to leave."
"I also told you I would talk to you later but you just flew off the handle and left without even saying goodbye," replied Jade, trying not to cry.
He pulled her in even more so their bodies were touching, cradling her face in his right hand, while his left hand was on her hands behind her back.
"I regretted it the moment I was on the highway but my pride wouldn't let me come back," he said softly. "I wanted to call since then but I wasn't sure you would talk to me after I left without a word to you. Me deciding not to call was easier than hearing you say you wouldn't talk to me."
"No excuse," she said, pulling away and standing several feet from him. "It was just a stupid argument. I thought you didn't want me anymore after my decision."
"What? No!" he exclaimed. "That had nothing to do with it. You had to do what was best for you. I respect that. What we experienced together, that will be special forever. But I fell in love with you, not your gift."
She sighed and walked away from him towards the fence overlooking the view. He came over and leaned on the fence next to her. They didn't speak for a few minutes.
"You cut your hair," she said. "I liked it long. But you look good all the same."
"We had to do some media stuff and one of the criticisms of my appearance was it made me look homeless or like a motorcycle gang member," he smirked. "Not the image they wanted for the new incarnation of the Avengers. It's already grown some and won't take long to grow longer, if you like it that way."
"Why should I have any say in it?" she asked. "It's not like we're a couple anymore."
"That's why I'm here," he said, turning to her. "I never wanted to leave you. When we were together I always thought we would get married, maybe have a kid or two."
"Then why did you leave?" she yelled, trying not to cry. "Especially when I needed you so much? I cried for days!"
She walked away from him to a place where a bench was and sat down, putting her face in her hands. He watched her then walked over and sat next to her. He reached inside his jacket and pulled out a black bandanna, offering it to her. She took it, blew her nose and offered it back but he told her to keep it.
"Because I was an idiot," he said bluntly. "Trust is hard for me, as hard as it is for you. When you told me about Strange and Wanda removing your abilities I was hurt that you would take that step without talking to me. It was always your decision, I get that, but I wanted to have my say before you did it. I over reacted and said some shit to you because that's who I am sometimes. I tried to take it back as soon as I said it but you wouldn't listen so I did what I'm really good at. I ran away, and I've been miserable without you ever since. I even trashed a building when I realized how stupid I had been."
"So why are you here, Bucky?" she asked, poking him in the chest. "Why are you really here?"
"I'm going to be stationed at the Bunker, permanently," he said, grasping her hand and stroking the back of it. "Starting in a month. I want you to come with me, Ben and Ma as well, if they want. I want to marry you."
He didn't know what he was expecting but yanking her hand out of his, picking up a bunch of rocks and throwing them over the fence wasn't it. She stood there after, her nostrils flaring, her eyes glaring and looking ready to burst.
"You have your nerve," she said defiantly. "We bought that place with the gold we found. It's ours, completely ours. We have a good life here and you want us to uproot everything to go and live in that concrete box again?"
"Okay," he said carefully and calmly. "Then marry me, stay here during the week and either come to me for the weekends or I come here. Lot's of couples do it. I don't want to be without you again, Jade. I've been miserable since we broke up. Whatever you want, I'll do it, anything except quit the Avengers. It's what I do best and I like it."
She sat back down next to him and looked at him. "This is when I miss my gift," she said. "This is when I would take a peek in your brain and see if you were serious. I can't tell because I never had to develop the human ability to tell when a person was full of shit."
"Do you still love me?" he asked. "I think you do, otherwise you wouldn't have greeted me the way you did."
"Yes," she admitted. "I don't know why but I do."
"Sure you do," he said. "You know why you love me. Say the reasons. I'll start. I make you feel safe."
She looked at him expressionless until he raised his eyebrows.
"You listen," she carried on reluctantly. "Your body makes me weak in the knees. Your eyes are like the ocean. Your voice is so soft and silky that it makes me wet with desire. Your stupid face is in my dreams every night. You've ruined me for other men. I don't want anyone else. I want you."
The last parts were spoken with a whisper as she struggled to keep her composure but he heard her loud and clear.
"Then say you'll marry me and we'll work out how we do this," he said quietly. "Because I want you, too. I love you and I want a life with you, however we make it work."
"I have to think about it," she said. "Really think. I'll give you my answer when we take our horseback ride."
"Okay," he said, satisfied for now. "Let's go back, before Ma thinks I kidnapped you."
Only love can bring the rain
That makes you yearn to the sky
Only love can bring the rain
That falls like tears from on high
Love, Reign O'er Me by The Who
"It's raining," said Bucky, looking out the window. "We won't be able to ride."
Jade looked outside. "It's virga," she said. "Rain that evaporates before it hits the ground. Stop trying to back out."
She had already saddled Butch for Bucky and was just saddling Cherry. Even without her gift she could tell Bucky was nervous about riding Butch, but it was so needless. Butch was a big softie of a horse, calm and compliant. A baby could ride him. She finished tightening the straps and stood beside Butch.
"Want a hand up?" she asked, sarcastically.
"No, I remember how," he said, miffed.
He put his foot in the stirrup and lifted himself up onto Butch. Jade mounted Cherry with ease and she pulled the reins to take the trail leading away from their house.
"We're off, Ma," she yelled. "Back at sunset."
"Dinner will be ready," Ma yelled back, watching them go, calling back Buddy, then whispering. "Say yes, you silly girl."
"Stay on the path," said Jade. "There are rattlesnakes around."
"Where are we going?" he asked, bringing himself alongside her.
"To a nice view," she said.
"Thanks for giving me my jean jacket," he said.
"You're welcome," she replied.
"You're not going to make this easy for me, are you?" he asked.
"No, I'm not," she snapped back. "There's something about being kidnapped by a religious nut bar who expected me to lay on my back and spread my legs for him that changes a person, especially when he turned out to be my father. You want me? You woo me."
She rode a little faster to get ahead of Bucky. He realized she was doing it deliberately to hurt him physically since he was such a lousy rider. Swallowing his pride he encouraged Butch to go faster and he caught up to her.
"How can I woo you if you won't slow down?" he asked.
"Aren't I worth a little discomfort?" she retorted. "I recall you saying you would die for me. This isn't death, just hard on the ass."
"Man, you have really become quite mean since you gave up your gift," he said pointedly. "Lost all of your empathy, your calmness, your good manners."
Jade smirked and rode even faster. She turned around to look behind her and didn't see Bucky. She stopped and turned Cherry around only to have Bucky whip by her from the opposite direction. He looked back with a big grin on his face as he expertly pulled up.
"Son of a bitch," she muttered. "He took riding lessons."
He rode back to her and she saw he was quite at home in the saddle. With grace, she smiled and conceded a draw. She led him back onto the original path and they finally came to the spot she wanted him to see, a view of rolling hills to the west as the sun was low.
"This is a nice view. I missed these sunsets," he said while he looked out over the vista. "I took riding lessons when I was researching a delivery method that didn't depend on me and Steve running all over the place. I'm not as good as you, obviously, but I can handle it."
"The horse detachments...that was you? Did you also do it for me?" she asked.
"Partly yeah, I did," he said. "What Clint said about the Others not being threatened by the horses stuck with me and I worked on the idea. Then as I got more comfortable riding I knew I wanted to come back and ride with you. When I found out you brought the horses here it became a goal for me. I envisioned us doing this, going for a leisurely ride just before sunset, when the light was golden. I imagined us bringing our horses close together, and me leaning over, and kissing you."
He did the movements he described as he said them. After kissing her he sat back in his saddle and pulled a small box out of his jean jacket. Ma had given it to him in the house; she had kept it safe until he returned.
"I saw myself bringing this box out and showing you this ring that I made, with Ma's help, with the jade gemstone in it that you found on one of the best days we ever had together. I practiced saying Jade Chambers, would you marry me? I thought I did a pretty good job of it as well. Of course, in my imagination you always said yes."
"You jerk," she whispered. "Why did you have to go and make it so perfect? Now I can't say no."
"Is that a yes?" he asked bringing Butch closer.
She didn't answer.
"Jade, will you marry me?" he asked, his horse right beside hers.
"Yes, it's a yes," she whispered back, trying not to cry.
He leaned over and placed the ring on her finger, then pulled her close for a passionate kiss.
"Does this mean you forgive me as well?" he asked innocently.
"That depends on tonight," she said, with a smile. "But your chances are good."
"Then we better get back," he replied. "Don't want to keep Ma waiting. She's practically screaming in my head right now."
Jade laughed. She took his vibranium hand in hers. "I really missed you," she said, tears finally forming. "I truly thought you didn't love me anymore. That's when I missed my gift the most. But I couldn't keep it, knowing there were people who thought it made me something I wasn't, a prophet, an object of worship, or a weapon. That's why I did it. It has changed me. I'm not that strange anymore, except my looks. That still causes peoples' heads to turn. But then I open my mouth and they know I'm normal."
"I still worship you," he said sincerely. "You're still beautiful inside and out. We made love with the mental connection that one time and I will always remember how special it was. It was a gift because I let you in and I had never let anyone into my head like that before or since. You know my deepest darkest secrets and fears yet you still love me. You will never be just normal to me, you will always be special."
They kissed again, and as if knowing, Butch and Cherry moved closer so the two riders didn't have to lean over as much. They heard a rumble of thunder and looked around seeing a storm starting to develop in the distance. Bucky turned Butch around and they started back for the homestead. By the time they got back and had unsaddled and cooled down the horses a wind had picked up. Ma called them in for dinner and commented they would get a good storm that night. While they ate they could hear the incoming thunder but there was no visible lightning or rain until they had finished. Ma looked at Bucky and Jade and told them to go on to bed upstairs, she and Ben could handle the cleanup.
"Upstairs?" asked Bucky. "I thought this was a single story ranch house?"
"Optical illusion," said Jade. "Come on."
Bucky grabbed his back pack and they went up a narrow staircase to where a bedroom had been built in the attic with a skylight window facing north. It was rustic and cozy, and it would be theirs.
"Who did this?" he asked.
"Ma did some serious negotiating with some tradespeople for the staircase, window and the electrical," Jade replied. "We did all the sanding. I bought the furniture and bedding from some of my earnings."
"I thought you didn't think I was coming back," he said.
"Ma kept saying you would and her future seeing was always better than mine," she answered.
"Then why didn't the cult kidnap her to be their prophet?" asked Bucky. "I always meant to ask that."
"Because she was past child bearing age," said Jade. "Elder Abraham aka Dad said he was destined to be the father of greatness with the white haired mother of greatness, which was me, not her. Enough talk."
"One more question," he said, "I promise. You still have your implant?"
She lifted up her arm and showed him the small scar from the injection then lifted up her other arm with the faint but large scar where her father tried to carve out her birth control implant. He touched the large scar then put his hand on her face and kissed her softly. She kissed him back and they sat on the edge of the bed, caressing each other's face and hair. Leaning forward she pulled his shirt off, tracing the edge of his prosthetic shoulder with her fingertips, then to his pectoral muscles before stopping at the top button of his jeans, undoing it. He pulled her shirt off, smiling that she wasn't wearing a bra. He pushed her down onto the bed to caress her breasts and kiss her neck. Her pale skin glowed in the dim light then a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, lighting everything up in its brilliance. It was quickly followed by a crash of thunder. They both undressed completely and got under the covers waiting for the next lightning flash. As they waited they softly kissed and caressed, becoming familiar with each other's bodies again. By the time the thunderstorm started in earnest they weren't paying attention to it any more. Instead Bucky was in her slowly thrusting himself deep as he kissed wherever his lips moved to. Jade ran her hands down his back to his bottom squeezing and pulling him closer. He started mouthing her ear and moved down to her breasts. Pulling his face back to hers Jade kissed him, running her tongue over his before kissing him hard. She clenched around him and he groaned feeling her tighten. With a grin he ground his pelvis into her, connecting with her clitoris and drawing a large sigh from her as she lifted her face upwards towards him. As they both got closer to the moment before their bodies would release in a flash of pleasure he brought his face down to her ear.
"I found you, Jade," he whispered. "I saw you on Red Wing's surveillance video. It was me who told Steve where you were while he was out on patrol. All I saw was your hair, your beautiful glorious hair. That's why I combed it out and washed it when you were still unconscious. I wanted to see your hair."
"I know," she murmured back. "I saw the memory in your head right at the beginning. It's why I was attracted to you from the start. You saw beauty in me before anyone else. I saw it in you, too, James."
They kissed deeply for a long time still moving in rhythm as their passion built to a crescendo of cries and thrusts until they reached their pinnacle together. She arched her back, crying out his name and he pressed himself into her neck with loud gasps. Below them in the living room, Ben looked up.
"We'll be hearing that a lot for the next month," he said drolly, as he rolled the dice while they played Yahtzee.
"Why don't you put some music on?" said Ma. "I know Peter gave you some playlists. Let your grandmother listen."
Ben took out his iPad and connected to the Bluetooth speaker, then picked out his favourite playlist. There were swear words in it but if Ma said to play it then he was going to play it. Above the living room they were just coming down from their bliss. Jade heard the music playing and her eyes grew big as she heard some of the words. She was going to go downstairs and say something but Bucky grabbed her hand and pulled her back into his arms.
"It's a different world that we live in," he said, kissing her. "He's a good kid. Let him have his music. He's probably playing it because we were a little loud. You want him to listen to us having sex or a few swear words?"
He winced when The Penis Song by Macklemore came up. "I'm going to kill Peter Parker," he said, flopping back in the bed.
Jade started laughing and kissed him again. She laid on top of Bucky and looked at the engagement ring with her namesake gem stone in it and thought back to the day when they found the piece of jade together. It was before the cult kidnapped her. They were walking along the wash away from the Bunker. Everyone had got into scouring the area for gemstones and Jade had shown them how to shape, sand and polish the stones. The geodes had become popular as room décor once she showed them how to crack the rocks. She had found the jade by accident, noticing a fossil exposed by the last rain. Together they had uncovered parts of the fossil and debated digging it out but it was huge so Bucky made a GPS record of it for the time when they could notify the university about it. Just beside it was a small piece of jade that had been scoured on the side facing up. Bucky said it matched her eyes and asked if he could have it for a project. She realized right at that moment that the ring had been the project. He had worked on it since before the cult took her. Looking at him, she smiled.
"The ring was the project," she said. "You've wanted to marry me for a long time."
"Took you long enough," he replied, amused.
Pulling her into his arms he kissed her again and played with her soft fine hair that he had always loved. For the next month they would be in this bed often when they wanted to be intimate. They would also ride his bike, ride the horses, and he would start being a real father to Ben. Working out how to have a long-distance marriage would take time but he knew in his heart they would definitely marry. Then someday have a child together. He had found his gem, his Jade, and no one would ever separate them again.
Things are beautiful if you love them.

The Sims 4: New Game Patch (January 31st, 2023)
There’s a new Sims 4 update available for PC/Mac and Consoles. PC: 1.95.207.1030 / Mac: 1.95.207.1230 / Console: Version 1.69
Hello Simmers
Following hot on the heels of the last update we have another one for you, this time we are putting a bit of a focus on the console version of The Sims 4, streamlining some key interfaces for easier controller interaction. While you can use a mouse and keyboard on both PlayStation and Xbox versions of The Sims 4, most console Simmers love to sit back with a controller; these updates are a small part of a larger ongoing focus to improve the console experience for all.
We also continue to invite all console Simmers to give us your thoughts and feedback on playing The Sims 4 on PlayStation and Xbox (especially with a controller) over on Answers HQ, where we have had some excellent feedback so far that the team is reviewing.
Not playing on console? No problem, we have some new content and fixes for everyone in this update as well. So let’s kick things off and see what’s new.
What’s New?
We have so much new stuff with this release and we can’t wait to dive in and tell you all about it. We do want to make a quick note that while we have added quite a few new assets, these are purely visual and don’t add new gameplay functionality. Now, let’s get to the good stuff.
Medical Wearables
There’s a new Medical Wearables category under Body and Face Accessories in Create a Sim.
Select the Sims face and then select Accessories to find the Medical Wearables category that contains a new hearing aid for your Toddler or older Sims. This medical wearable comes in fifteen color variants, and can be assigned to your Sims right, left or both ears.
The Medical Wearables category can also be found by selecting the Sims body and then selecting the Body category. Here you can find Glucose Monitors for your Child and older Sims that can be added to your Sims right and left arm, and to your Sims lower abdomen on the right or left side as well.
Top Surgery Scar
Under the same Body category, all players can find a Body Scars category with an option for Teen and older male Sims (masculine or feminine frame) to add a Top Surgery Scar to their Sims.
Binders and Shapewear
With this update, players can find two new assets in Create a Sim. Under the Tanks, in the Tops category, you will find a Binder top asset for your Teen and older Sims. In the Underwear category for Bottoms, there is a new shapewear asset for your Sims as well!
Let there be Light Switches!
For our builders who have long desired to complete that perfect room, a new light switch is now available in Build Mode!
UI Placement comes to PlayStation
Previously, The Sims 4 on PlayStation required Simmers to calibrate their screen settings at a system level by going to the consoles Settings > Sound and Screen > Display Area Settings and configuring the display.
This option will continue to work but now, PlayStation Simmers will be able to adjust the UI placement. The wizard will run during the initial launch of The Sims 4 or can be manually initiated from Game Options > Other .
We still recommend you calibrate your Display Area Settings through your PlayStation settings.
Cursor Scaling
Simmers can now adjust the size of the cursor on both PlayStation and Xbox when displayed in virtual cursor mode on your controller, or while you are using a mouse and keyboard to play.
This additional level of customization allows you to have a larger cursor without needing to scale up all of the game UI. This should make it easier to see even when you’re kicking back, relaxing in your favorite seat looking at the TV screen across the room.
You can adjust the cursor size in game by going to Game Options > Accessibility.
Console Build Mode Improvements
Jumping into Build Mode will feel a little different… well OK, a lot different. Now the Catalog is opened by default and STAYS open as you grab items and interact with the lot. You no longer need to reopen the Catalog and re-navigate to the menu you were in every. single. time.
Regardless of which cursor mode you’re in, you can seamlessly interact with either the Catalog or lot, which aligns our console experience more closely to that on PC.
Console Build Mode Guidance System
If you are a new player or have the Guidance System enabled, the help you received from Emily in CAS and Live Mode will continue through to Build Mode. If you aren’t familiar with building, using the tools, or how to find the right looking object and place it exactly where you want it, Emily will be there to guide you around Build Mode to help you unleash your creativity.
Controls and Navigation Updates
While we have kept the ability to toggle control methods by tapping the Touch Pad on PlayStation or View button on Xbox, we have reduced the amount of times we switch between the two modes automatically.
Since we are talking about toggling the control methods, if you have the Controls Legend enabled in Game Options > Other, we now show a prompt for Toggle Cursor at the top. Not only that, next to the prompt is a little reminder of which control scheme you are currently using.
We have also added controller shortcuts to some dialogs and screens to help simplify and speed up navigating the game. These button prompts are displayed on supported screens and can be used where usually you would have a lot of scrolling to get to the Confirm or Cancel button.
Bug Fixes Base Game
Toddlers can do strange things sometimes, but bathing with their slippers on shouldn’t be one. Now their feet will get clean, just like the rest of them.
The Venue Info icon in the top left of your screen contains a lot of useful information but it doesn’t mean it should always display as new. Now the icon flair will only show when something is actually new.
Sims made through CAS Stories with Starting Funds ‘High’ should now get 30k Simoelons instead of the standard 20k for their household fund.
Sims love a good makeover, but when switching Styled Looks in CAS it’s taking it a bit far your Sim’s appearance changes, not just their outfits. Styled Looks will now update just the outfit your Sim is wearing and not make them a totally different Sim.
When adjusting the physical frame of your Sim while using Bantu Knots (yfHair_SDX019BantuKnots) or Two Strand Twist (ymHair_SDX019TwoStrandTwists) hairstyles, you will continue to see the Plumbob icon on the thumbnail as a reminder of the fantastic collaboration we did with DeeSims to bring those styles to everyone.
The goals during the Parenting Predicaments scenario will reflect a child Sim aging up to a teen after blowing out the birthday candles and progressing the scenario.
Child Sims getting at least a B grade average at school will be recognized for their achievements by progressing the Parenting Predicaments scenario objectives.
If your Sims reach level 5 in one of Sofia and Leonardo’s skills before the goal activates in the Parenting Predicaments scenario, it’ll be accurately marked as meeting the criteria.
Also related – teenagers have aspirations (apparently waking up before noon doesn’t count) but in the Parenting Predicaments scenario teens are able to complete the teenage aspirations goal.
Some say it’s a conspiracy, some say the aliens got fed up with the parents and just sent them home, others just think it was a bug. Either way, parents should no longer return midway through the Aliens Stole My Parents scenario when traveling off the lot and back again.
Stuck in the Shadow wasn’t intended to actually get you stuck…. Completing the Scenario should now complete once the goals have been achieved.
Emily likes to help Simmers get a head start, but it seems she was a little too eager and prevented Scenario goals from displaying in CAS if she hadn’t been seen previously. Now if you haven’t seen Emily yet, and start a new Scenario you will have your goals displayed so you can create the perfect household to take on the challenges ahead. Emily will be there if you need her later.
Seasoned Simmers who don’t need Emily’s help and choose to disable the Guidance System, in the Game Options, while in CAS will no longer run into an issue where you cannot create a Sim due to the options being inaccessible.
Merging Sims from the Gallery while Emily was guiding you through CAS will no longer prevent Emily from explaining the final parts of the CAS Guidance System.
Entering CAS from the Simology option will not prevent you from creating a Sim Story.
While using the Guidance System to customize your own Sim, Add New Sim will not be available until you have completed your Sim customization tutorial or opted out of the tips.
Some tips in Build Mode prevented you from accessing features like Bulldoze and Save to My Library; all the options are selectable again.
Sims with customized frames should have a full set of fingernails to pick from, including those from packs.
City Living
Being an Interior Decorator can be tough, it’s made even more difficult if you can’t get in. Sims picking up a gig at a penthouse will now be able to knock on the door and get in to work their style magic.
If there is one main thing you would expect Illuminating Pillars to do, it’s illuminate! Well we changed some bulbs, got shocked once or twice, checked the wiring and now they should be good to go.
Get Famous
After our previous update which brought a new look to Lessons and a bigger, easier to read layout, it unexpectedly caused long Lesson titles to extend beyond the boundaries of the box in some languages. The titles should now all fit in their designated spaces and be fully readable by all.
Eco Lifestyle
The Perfect Plumbob Ceiling Fan, Sandstorm Ceiling Fan, Dizzy Palms Ceiling Fan now all come with a power consumption rating.
High School Years
Sims wearing the yfAcc_NecklaceEP12Beaded_SolidRainbowLt necklace should no longer see it floating near them when zooming the camera. We must have forgotten to remove the levitation enchantment, sorry about that!
Paranormal
Sims making a living as a Paranormal Investigator and autonomously visiting San Myshuno often found that doors were missing from apartments unless you were in Walls Up view. Doors should now show up as expected. But are they really there? Someone should investigate! Spoooooky!
Bust the Dust
Dust and Dust Bunnies will show up after a reload, now where did I put that Dust Dandy Cordless Vacuum?
Outdoor Retreat
We learned a lesson and that lesson is that our lessons should have Titles. Outdoor Retreat should show up under Lessons as expected and no longer be a mystery category.
