Hey Sam, any chance you can talk a bit more about saffron at some point? I've not encountered it as a possible ADHD treatment before and am curious what you meant about finding it not helpful at higher doses. Does it just not work, does it kinda work but have an annoying side effect or two, etc etc. Thinking I might give it a go, but I'm on 60mg of rubifen a day (2 pills in morning, one early afternoon) and want to have an idea of where to place my expectations :)
The saffron thing is pretty new overall as well as new to me, and I tend to side-eye "natural" cures because generally when natural cures work they, you know, become medicine. There's also very little regulation on natural remedies/vitamins so it's always a toss-up as to what's actually in the capsules; when I went looking for saffron pills, all of them seemed sketchy, made and sold by the kind of place that'll sell you gunpowder tea for weight loss. (I ended up going with Nootropics simply because they put most of the info on the bottle.)
I heard about saffron as an ADHD treatment from a woman I was speaking to who's got three kids with ADHD, all under 15, and was having trouble getting their meds. We originally started talking because I was offering tips on how to find pharmacies that might have larger stocks of Adderall during the shortage, and she tuned into the conversation since trying to get three 30-day scrips for Adderall filled at once really sucked. She told me she'd tried saffron after hearing about it on an ADHD Parenting community, and that it was helping her kids with the hyperactivity element, though she wasn't sure if it was helping them with focus and executive function. The study here seems to be the main source of data on it, and it's admittedly a small study, but the fact that it is being studied by actual scientists is somewhat reassuring.
The recommended dosage is 30mg/day of the saffron, which I've been taking for a couple of weeks on top of the first dose of Adderall (and daily vitamins). I really only have my own experience to go on but it seems to me to act as an enhancer for the Adderall; gives it a little kick, at least it feels like. It doesn't seem to do much on its own for me. On the one hand, the placebo effect can be mighty, but on the other, I'm a reasonably skeptical person who hasn't been subject to placebo effect during drug trials in the past, so I think what I'm feeling is a real effect, it's just very mild. (A while back I tried Rhodiola, which is another commonly-recommended herbal supplement for ADHD, and didn't feel like it did anything.)
On top of 10mg of Adderall, the 30mg Saffron works pretty well, seems to intensify it a bit. I do take 20mg of Adderall on occasion but unless I'm super tired or stressed, it's too much -- it pushes me through productive and back out into scattered -- so the saffron intensifying 20mg is way, way too much, even if I need the 20mg. If I'm taking both doses at once I leave the saffron capsule in the pill box.
Overall, the science is still a bit shaky, but less shaky than a lot of non-prescription cures out there, and Saffron's pretty safe to use. Even if it's not doing anything, the only real consequence is I'm out $22 for the bottle. I might go off it for a bit once the bottle's done and see if I notice a downswing. All my data is pretty highly subjective, so all I can recommend is trying it out for yourself.

Earenya meditation and offering
Below is a long transcript of a weekday observation for tolkien elven religion <3 Thursday is Earenya, the day of waters and the three Valar associated with water.. It is a day of the external waters of the world (Lord Ulmo), and the internal waters of our hearts (Lord Nienna) and our bodies (Este.) These three Valar are communed with, worshiped, or worked with on this day. My practice every single day is to give a potion offering to the Valar of the day and meditate on their place in my life. Sometimes the moon phase or month changes how specifically i focus on this practice.

Starting out with seven minutes of silent sitting with this drone in the background, just breathing and feeling the flame of my fëa, the light of the flame imperishable in the world around me. Slowly, the boundaries between my ideas of things and the reality of them goes fuzzy and soft.
Then, prepping my offering for today. Just clean drinking water with a little potion of powdered lion's mane, rhodiola, and orange, then tincture of mullein. Stirred while admiring the swirl of the water counterclockwise, opening the nets of my body and heart to release what it has caught over time.
I stand and sing lindë elenlotë using my finger to mark the points of the star flower: like a clock, 4-- Elenya, 8-- anarya, 2-- isilya, 7-- alduya, 12-- menelya, 5-- earenya (today! the warmth of Ulmo's joy washes over me), 10-- valanya, and back to 4-- arda.
I then face the directions and intone them one at a time: East, Rómen. (also 12 on the star: menelya, the day and direction of Varda and Manwe) Downward, Undo. (5 on the star: Earenya, day and direction of Ulmo and Nienna) North, Formen. (10 on the star: Valanya, day and direction of Tulkas and Vána (though valanya is day of all valar, not just those two.)) Within, Enda. (4 on the star: Elenya--day of Varda and all elves, but direction of Orome and Nessa) West, Númen. (8 on the star: Anarya, day of the sun and fiery valar, but direction of Namo and Vaire.) Above, Vilya. (2 on the star: Isilya, day of the moon and cool/silvery valar, but direction of Este and Irmo.) South, Hyarmen. (7 on the star: Alduya, day of the two trees and day and direction of Yavanna and Aule.) facing same direction, intoning Illúve for the illumination of Eru we all share.
Because today is Earenya, day of waters, day of Ulmo, Nienna, and Este, I crouch and set my offering down and put both palms on the floor to either side of it.
"Hail Ulmo, lord of all waters in the world, whose waves carry the sound of the original song of creation and stretch over all the width and depths of the world. You touch my life at every possible layer and support me in ways i cannot fully know. Thank you, for your joy in the creation, for staying with my people in all forms of exile, for your warnings and protections. Enjoy the fruits of my cup, which are your fruits--this clean water is your gift to me. My joys are your joys, and my sorrows are your sorrows.
"Hail Nienna, Fui, whose heart stretches across all darkness and all time, to every wound and uncertainty. Thank you for the cleansing process of grief, the waxing and waning of suffering that lets wisdom grow. Thank you for your constancy in my life and the depths of compassion you enable in my heart. Take the fruits of my cup, the waters of my tears and my labors. My joys are your joys, my sorrows are your sorrows."
I then stood with the cup and lifted it upward, Vilya, the direction of Este and Irmo.
"Hail Este, who teaches me my trade and has designed so many wondrous plants in communion with other Valar. Thank you for your kind attention to our bodies and their capacity to heal, and for the wide interwoven web of plants and other life that can heal and feed one another. The fruits of my cup are absolutely yours, the fruit of my learning herbalism, which could not be without your constant inspiration and remonstrations. My joys are your joys, and my sorrows are your sorrows."
I then faced south and held my cup outward.
"Hail Lord Yavanna, giver of all fruits and maker of life: this is your month, Yavannie, the month of final harvest. This time is rich with food and light, though soon it will wane and fade. Thank you for the cycle of life and death that feeds and makes food of all. My cup is your cup, my joys are your joys, and my sorrows are your sorrows.
I sat a while with the cup to my chest, breathing in joy in the light of our flaming souls, and then drank the offering after the Valar had their time to enjoy it.

Chapter 3: Are you orchidding me?

WHAT!?? What was happening !?? He was 100% sure he didn't write that word glaring at him? The fresh glittery purple ink laid on his notebook was driving him crazy! 
He put down the offending notebook and harshly ran his hands over his eye sockets.
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? 
Who wrote that?
He had been holding the thing the whole time? 
The monster closed and opened the notebook a few times, just to be sure. Yep, it was still there. He approached his face as close as possible to observe the words, his bone nose almost brushing against the paper. 
Was he hallucinating? Had he somehow written that and just… forgotten? A tremor ran through his entire body as he tried to understand what was happening. He was alone. Fact one. There were words on his notebook he didn’t remember writing. Fact two.
Two facts. That were actively contradicting the other! 
He wanted to scream.
He did scream.
Advantage to being (mostly) alone in a black void. Nobody could care about how loud you were or if you were eating your footwear. What one individual could do when boredom was gnawing at their mind was rarely anything very smart.
Bugs were buzzing through his mind as he rotated the small facts around in his mind. He couldn’t go crazy!!! 
Do you mean he went through the entirety of his villain arc mostly lucid and it was when he finally let go of his disturbingly morbid plan that he finally lost the last marbles rolling around in his skull?
The sigh that resonated in the dark emptiness would have been strong enough to destroy an entire town of little wooden houses.
Enough. Enough. The monster held onto his slippers and clapped them together, brutishly. The pink fuzzy cat-shaped things scrunched together before returning to their original state.
Was the motion enough to ground him? He wasn’t sure.
How could someone be grounded in a “groundless” space like this one? He chuckled as he struck what was the closest thing to a ground here. Focusing on the strange sensation, he tried to let the anxiety and panic flow out of his weary bones.
He could barely feel it.
No temperature.
No harsh texture.
It was a bit like water, maybe more like mud. He could barely push his hand against it while using strength but if he just let his hand rest gently on it… It would slightly sink. That was it. It was the dizzying sensation of constantly sinking.
But everything went down with him at the same time. A sinking ship. Forever dry despite the liquid lapping at its sides. 
Slowly, slowly going down.
Never up.
The void was a weird thing, changing, always. What was true one second could be wrong the next instant. It used to grind him but he adapted. 
The save screen protected him from the rest of the place. If one could call that a place. The energy coming out of the star runned under the surface, like roots or fish. It did not go far before fading however. He tended to be very wary of the limits of the “safe” zone in general. The skeleton picked at his clothes, removing his jacket and messing with the hem.
There.
Calm.
Rhodiola. Hawthorn. Lemon balm. St. John's wort. Passion flower.
Good.
Picture the plant. 
Small. White. Leaves. Yellow. Weird.
Think about the smell.
Strong chemicals. Spicy. Minty lemon. Mild. Sweet tropical.
Good.
The monster fidgeted for a few more minutes before finally feeling his mind slow down.
He was NOT having a crisis over some stupid words in a glitter pen on his freshly improved notebook.
Where did he put that abomination?
A single glance sufficed to show him where the object was. At arm lance. Right where he left it.
The item was opened once again and laid out in front of him. The glaring “hello?” was still there. He was tempted to push that whole situation aside for after his nap. But he was rational, no way he was going to sleep now.
So he did the only thing he could think of in his still slightly dazed state.
He picked up his own pen and wrote on the paper:
“Who are you?”
And waited.
Long enough to start feeling stupid about the whole ordeal.
But his patience was rewarded when letters inscribed themselves onto the paper under his very eyes. It was a bit surreal to watch.
First a “B”. The letter was written fancily, albeit a bit shakily… “e”…”r”…”l”…”i”…”n”…”g”…”o”…”t”.
Then a question.
“And you?”
Berlingot? Wasn’t that the name of some sweet or something like that? Did a pastry decide to haunt his notebook or something? Sure, why not!It was not as if his life could get any weirder after all!
The monster once again ranted aloud. 
Very loudly.
Now what to do? Should he answer the ghost pastry? What should he even answer? 
A genocidal monster? His name, that thing that he couldn’t recognize himself in anymore? The truth…?
He didn’t know anymore. Who was he? How could such a simple question have such a complicated answer…
He knew who he had been. But, now, who was he? An echo of the past? Lost in this nowhere place? A confused piece of a soul?
He glared at the notebook, how dare thee!
Noticing “Berlingot” added something to the page, he greedily gripped onto the book in the vain hope of distracting himself from those spiraling thoughts.
“You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to! I just wanted to have something to call you, you know?”
Something to call him? Something to call…
Maybe he could do that. The monster played with his scarf, pulling it tighter then looser and repeating the movement, deep in thoughts.
Like a nickname? It put less pressure on him for sure. He didn’t have to be perfectly suited for the truth. How does one decide on a nickname? It could be something derived from his birth name?  Ew, no. No “Sansy” here. Or something that came from a remarkable experience? Well, it was how he ended up with “Geno” so let’s look for another nicknaming protocol. It could also be something he liked a lot? 
He let go of his scarf to flip through the older pages of his notebook. What did he like? Napping? 
Fear the terrible “napmaster”!
He stood serious for a second before dissolving into uncontrollable giggles. No, no, not that. Too close to "legendary fartmaster" anyway. He didn't want to have such a reminder in his "name".
What to choose? What to choose?
His fingers touched the bruised pages again. What about…?
He flipped to the very first page and stared at it.
He went back to the newest page after what felt like hours worth of hesitation and carefully wrote:
"You may call me Orchid then."
End of chapter 3! Go to chapter 4?

Riddle was his stage name and he he fucked up the spelling when he took it on as a full time alias. His real name is Meldri'lind which, in a drow conlang, is Adored (Meldrinus) Snake (Cahlind).

I think we all know what the word choice means 😆 He chose this virtue name as a reminder of his free will. His Pathfinder (the WotR game, what he was originally from) lineage gives him an almost insatiable pull towards violence towards himself and others, but he is choosing to deny these impulses.

Google says "Ahn" means "Grandfather" lol. My friend actually helped me name him using some Dalish conlang. His name means "Blessed Music". He almost did not survive after birth, so the sound of his cries were like music to the clans ears. Much in line with that, he also loves to sing shanties (he's a pirate).

Google thinks I mean "shavasana", the corpse pose in yoga. I guess that's fitting for my little necromancer that loves to relax lol.
El'la'shivasa is another conlang name meaning Great Secret Oath. That was originally meant to allude to something in its story but I dropped that plot point and don't remember what that meant. It just goes by "El'la" now and Ella means "fairy maiden" which is lovely :)

Well, these random inked smokes are a result of a bargain with Jeele who is the leader of the aeterna minstrel group (running with the name "Messengers of Fate") not far from Giliad. (More about the guy later, because, oh boy, he is special in my fanfiction :D) To put it simply, she received an extra treat by a ritual, which is basically an inking process mixed with an enchantment. This allows her to "Ghostwalk", or "Mistwalk", or "Shadowstep" (or how the fancy fuckever I wanna call it, still don't know xD). Can't really articulate how it should look like, I'm really bad at this. xD The closest thing i've found that somehow illustrates the thing is: https://geektyrant.com/news/amazing-animated-cinematic-to-the-dd-game-neverwinter Actually it was based on the Ghostwalk ability of Enderal. I just changed the visual effects into black smoke. So maybe for the sake of consistency, I'll call it just like that :D On the flip side, it drains her "magical resources" (which is not much to begin with) and increases blood pressure (nose bleeding when severe) and "arcane fever" (=headaches, dizzyness, nausea) soon after the effect wears off. So she has to use it wisely. Similar to the arcane fever, that can moderately improved by Ambrosia; according to Jeele, the symptoms can be improved by Rhodiola potions. Heck, Maybe i'm gonna have to draw how Rhodiola potions look like - cuz it's rare. She has to make herself, because those are illegal in the Middlerealm white markets. :D
