Lykoi the werewolf cat breed
So I’m not going to be arguing because I’ve seen enough from enough owners over the years to have reached this conclusion, and I’m not in well enough health to come back to this. But I’m seeing the lykoi breed get more attention around tumblr lately, and I’ve gotta speak up because the breed has a dirty little secret.
I joined the Lykoi Lovers group years ago because I loved this breed, they’re super cute! I love werewolves! However, over the years, as more people got these cats, and their cats aged up (3-5+yo is when skin issues become REALLY evident) the group turned into a horror show.
This mutation really reminds me of lemon frost in leopard geckos. In the geckos, it was the desirable appearance which CAUSED the cancerous tumors. It wasn’t something that could be bred out. Similarly, it is the werewolf appearance which causes the skin issues, cysts, pimples, bleeding in the cats. You can breed away from it... and end up with a normal looking cat with fewer skin issues. You cannot seem to keep the werewolf look AND have good skin.
More below, and it IS graphic so be warned. Pus, blood, sad cats under the cut.
Let’s start with "what to know before getting a Lykoi”
Okay, inevitably bumpy? What’s that mean exactly?
“The gene that is specific to Lykoi that creates the semi hairless and roaning look is thought to be responsible for less hair follicles and possibly smaller pores. This in turn could be responsible for the cyst/pimple issue. So, it's not going to be in Sphinx or any other breed, it's specific to Lykoi. Responsible breeders are currently working on breaking away from some of the older lines with bad skin and breed Lykoi that have no or less bumps. However what happens when you breed for more coat and better skin is that it seems to lessen the look of the Lykoi. Many of the heavier coated Lykoi without skin issues lack a mask or have a very slight one.“
^^^This is pretty damning as far as the future of the breed goes. Well bred ones will not look like werewolf cats.
Okay, but that’s just a couple cats, and just one cyst. That’s not so bad---
“They definitely bother me more than her.” You sure about that?? Look at her...
Okay but that’s just a FEW cats, how bad could it b--
Again, this issue typically appears after the cat is 3-5 years old, so people buy their little werewolf cats unwise to the fact it’ll live with painful skin problems for the majority of its life.
It is the very mutation which reduces follicle count and pore size which causes the werewolf appearance and the blackheads and cysts, so I think “breeding it out” is nothing but a pipe dream. The mutation itself is what causes the problems, as mentioned earlier just like lemon frost leopard geckos.
Anyway, this has been a PSA.
#animal ethics#lykoi#cat#psa#animal cruelty#torture breeding#so many harmful mutations where people think you can keep the appearance but not the negative parts... it often does not pan out#and given the evidence i don't think it will here#for decades people tried breeding the neuro out of spider ball pythons etc#instead we just ended up with a million neuro-affected spider ball pythons good job everyone

♡︎♡︎ SWEET.
simon riley x reader synopsis: you and your fiancé were settling in for the night, ready to go to bed until you insisted on doing a little skincare with him— he didn't know it'd bring about old memories. tags: fluff, slight angst/lots of comfort, mentions of blood word count: 1.8k
There you were again— another night of standing in front of the mirror, your menagerie of face products messily lined upon the white-marbled sink, the hum of a low fan serving as white noise as you got ready for bed. The bathroom’s humidity welcomed you, having just gotten out of a well-deserved shower. A white towel wrapped snugly around you as you reached your hand out to press it against the fogged glass, rubbing the condensation away in short and swift motions. You leaned over the sink in a feeble attempt to get closer to it, the edge of the sink poking at your stomach as your eyes squinted in concentration. An exasperated sigh left your lips, eyes daring to roll back into the back of your head out of sheer annoyance from the inconvenience. A sudden hand snaked around your waist, pulling you into its warmth as you jolted up out of surprise, your shoulders loosening once you put two and two together.
“Boo.” The gruff voice whispered, his voice reverberating from his chest into your frame. A huff of amusement escaped through his nose, seeming quite pleased with his ability to still catch you off guard doing such mundane things as taking care of yourself. He was met with a gentle elbow to his hardened abdomen, your elbow seeming to take more of the blow than him. “Rude, Simon.. I was busy!” You griped, reprimanding your fiancé for sneaking up on you when he was aware of how much you hated that. Years of military training seemed to only hone his stealth rather than diminish it, his tendency to loom in hallways and corners out of pure habit by now. “Uh-huh. Bet you were, love. Quite a shame.” Simon supplied simply, unphased by words that lacked any venom in them. He slipped past you with ease, extending his arm out towards the lid of the toilet seat, letting it fall as he took a seat atop it, legs spreading as he drank in your figure. Simon did this often, almost following you around like a lost puppy— dark eyes simply fixated on you and enamored with your movements. “I was! I was about to put on a face mask.” You said as your hand reached for a nearby packet, the small gray packet crinkling with each movement. Simon’s eyes narrowed in examination of the product, brows slightly furrowed as he took it from you without further hesitation, his eyes scanning it, practically burning holes into it. “Charcoal... paper mask. What s’all this for?” He asked with a hint of interest in his tone, his brows knitted in skepticism. He was aware of your interest in skincare, yet the topic remained foreign to him for the most part. He had no need for it although his skin was beyond needing care. A couple of ingrown hairs from messily shaving in the wrong direction, and purple under eyes that did anything and everything but blend into his skin. Skincare— what the hell does anyone need skincare for? Are soap and water not enough these days?
“It’s supposed to reduce oil by pulling blackheads out or something, I think.”
“Your skin’s oily?”
“Isn’t yours too?”
“Dunno. Just usually scrub the shit out of it and roll out of bed good as new...” He mused, rotating the packet between his index finger and middle, offering it back to you after he was done. Being in the military left little room to worry about the condition of his skin, the only liquid meeting his skin being water, sweat, and blood— his own... most of the time. It was a folly thought to think you believed he was informed about the condition of his skin, stifling a small laughter caught in his throat. You gently took it from him, attempting to rip the top of the plastic packaging off and absentmindedly setting it aside before an idea crossed your mind. Simon sensed this, his eyebrows slightly raised as interest peeked through his poker face.
“Si…” You began sweetly, your voice comically raising an octave in an attempt to persuade him. As predicted, Simon’s resolve slowly crumbled at the sweetness in your voice, mentally cursing himself for being such a sucker for you. “What is it?” He softly inquired, his head cocked slightly to the side as he awaited your words. “Would you want to try this with me?”
"Try what?"
"A face mask— don't act stupid."
"If I wanted to act stupid, I'd take notes from you, lovie."
"Oh, ha-ha." You stuck your tongue out at him, eliciting a huff of amusement from him. He remained quiet as he gently took ahold of your hand, getting your fingers to loosen their grip on the packet. His eyes scanned the foreign piece of plastic, reading the ingredients it contained. You caught his attention, moving closer to him as you pointed out the ingredients.
"These are just all the things it's mixed with. Niacinamide is supposed to help with oil reduction, the aloe is for calming inflamed skin..." You trailed off as you gestured for him to read the rest. He gave you a look that practically screamed, 'You don't need any of this', but he obliged in the directions you gave him anyway. Everything checked out with what you said, not that he'd doubt your knowledge. You always knew about little facts, odds and ends here and there-- maybe that's why you kept wiping the floor with him whenever you two would watch Jeopardy.
He inhaled deeply for a moment before letting the puff of air out through parted lips, finally giving you a nod of acknowledgment at your earlier offer. "Yeah, sure." He agreed, shrugging it off as if it were no big deal. The corners of your lips tugged to form a huge grin as he handed the packet back to you to rip open. You took a step forward between his legs, his dark brown eyes watching you with rapt attention. Pale eyelashes flicked up to trail your features as you struggled to open the packet, much to his delight. The shape of your lips, the way strands of your hair would fall into your face and catch against your long lashes that dropped over your eyes— Simon was by no means a saint, but God, did he want to be one for you. His hand found its way to your clothed hip, his thumb rubbing small circles over the fabric.
"Aha! Got it!" You threw your hands up in the air, fists clenched as you celebrated your small victory of getting the packet opened. "Ready?" You eagerly asked, practically teeming with joy. He stiffened slightly at your words, his eyes straying from yours for a moment. He didn't know what came over him— you had seen his face a thousand times, hell, it wasn't like he was wearing a mask now. Maybe it was the way that all these face products served as a reminder that he didn't have perfect skin. Better yet, it served as a reminder he was far from perfect himself. Scars littered his body, some from even when he hadn't been in the military— each scar on his body told a story, some nastier than others. "Yeah." He responded bluntly, swallowing the lump that had formed in his throat. You were his fiancé and accepted him wholeheartedly— he knew that. Your relationship had been through hell and back to get to where you are now. Countless missions he had gone on that you were convinced he wasn't going to come back from, dreading the day that you'd only have his dog tag to remember him by. You were the only person he had left and gave a promise of coming back to— everything be damned if he didn't claw his way back to you every time.
You fished the paper mask out of the packaging that was soaked in product, his eyebrow twitching in curiosity about how it was going to be applied. "Close your eyes." You cooed as he stared at you for a moment before his eyelashes fluttered shut. Your expression softened as you straightened the mask before placing it over his face, the coolness of the mask sending a chill up his spine. You began smoothing out the mask with your thumb, delicately mapping out his features. His nose was crooked from the time he told you he broke his nose at age 18 for getting into some barfight at a local pub, which served as no surprise since you were well aware of his temper when it was directed towards others. Craters of acne scarring embedded into his cheeks from his nails digging at the painful hormonal acne he had suffered from until the ripe age of 22. The scar on his chin from when he had scraped it on a rock as a rookie in training for the military. All of what made Simon, Simon.
"You're handsome." You said, your voice barely above a whisper. "I know it." He replied, his voice mirroring yours. You gave him a weak smile as you shook your head, your thumb still smoothing down the edges of the mask. He always hid behind his cocky demeanor, vulnerability masked by his dry humor. "No, I mean it." You mumbled as a moment of silence fell between you two, filled by the low hum of the bathroom fan. His hand was still resting on your hip, his thumb pressing into the soft flesh blanketed by polyester. He didn't say anything in response, opting to say nothing as he blinked a few times, his gaze falling on a nearby bath towel that was strung up to dry. Even though his words failed him, you could've sworn you saw a hint of a smile threatening to grace his features.
The rest of the evening continued with him learning more about skincare, letting you ramble on about which products you were looking forward to getting in the future. Night fell as quickly as the evening ended, landing you two in the comfort of your shared bed. You fell asleep before he did, practically swallowed whole by the cotton blanket you two had picked out a week ago. Maybe it's too big, he thought to himself. His eyes landed on your sleeping form, watching as your chest rose and fell rhythmically. Your hair was sprawled across the pillow as moonlight filtered in through the curtains, almost giving an illusion of an aureole of light surrounding you— he could've mistaken you for an angel itself if he were half-asleep, honestly. He reached out for your hand, gingerly taking it in his as he admired the ring he had proposed to you with. His index finger grazed across the band of gold, the reality that you were his pulling at his heartstrings.
He fell asleep with you in his arms that night, peppering kisses to your temple before bringing his face down to rest in the crook of your neck with him tucked at your side. He wasn’t burdened by nightmares for the first time in a while— he dreamed.

appearence; "is she glowing?" - glow up guide no.2
Hey love, how are you doin?
Today we'll cover the next part of our glow up journey - our looks. So without further ado, let's begin!
I prepared a list of things you can do in order to boost your looks, and take care of yourself at the same time, so you can glow up<3
FACE:
⟶ don't pick your pimples!!! It's the worst thing you can do when dealing with acne/spots/blackheads etc. Instead go see a dermatologist. You can also use salicylic acid, azelaic acid or pimple patches ⟶ start double cleansing to remove all makeup and dirts from your face. Use an oil cleanser first, and a water based one afterwards. ⟶ use vitamin C to brighten your skin and give it this healthy glow ⟶ diet is also very important to keep your face clean and glowy. Make sure you're not eating too much sugar and processed foods that may cause inflammation. ⟶ use makeup according to your face shape and to enhance your features. ⟶ depuff your face using ice cubes, gua sha and face massages ⟶ When you sleep on our side, your face is pressed against the pillow causing acne and wrinkles, so sleep on your back or invest in a silk/satin pillowcase to reduce friction. ⟶ make sure you're using spf 50 daily
BODY:
⟶ move your body! Find an acitivy that you enjoy and move your body daily. You can go to the gym, find a class (like pilates or spinning maybe?) or just workout at home, stretch or go on walks. I personally love dancing and stretching, and I also try to walk at least 10k steps a day. ⟶ check up at the doctors regularly to make sure you're healthy ⟶ make sure you're sleeping enough, this is very important if you want to feel and look your best. Studies recommend at least 7 hours for and adult, and minimum 8 hours for teenagers ⟶ diet, im sorry but this is key to a healthy lifestyle and body. A healty, balanced diet with lots of fruit and vegetables and whole foods is essencial. Make sure to get enough protein and healthy fats in. I am not a medical professional, so if you have any special needs, allergies or you are in treatment consult any dietetary changes with your doctor or a certified dietetician. ⟶ use a nourishing body wash and after the shower use a lotion to moisturise your skin. And use deodorant after every shower. ⟶ exfoliate using a scrub or an exfoliating glove once/twice a week to keep your skin soft ⟶ you can take a pumice stone to soften the rough skin on your feet, and make sure to clean and cut your toenails. ⟶ find a signature scent, I recommend perfumes as they last longer but scented mists are also good. Bonus points if you have a lotion in the same smell to enhance the scent. ⟶ this is optional, but if you'd like to take your body care to the next level, everything showers are amazing! I do one about every two weeks on sundays. This is the time for you to take a cozy bath, exfoliate, wash your hair, maybe do a face mask? There is no right or wrong for an everything shower, just make yourself feel good and clean the way you like it<3
HAIR:
⟶ wash your hair 2-4x a week depending on your needs. Don't wash your hair daily as it can cause damaged hair and a dry, itchy scalp. If your hair gets greasy easily, try to at least wash it every other day. ⟶ use a hair mask once a week ⟶ I find that the best hair care is according to your hair porosity. You can check it with the glass of water test. Simply take a clean, product-free strand of loose hair and put it in a glass of water. If the hair floats at the top then it is low porosity, if it sinks slowly or settles in the middle it is medium/normal porosity, and if it sinks straight to the bottom then it is high porosity. ⟶ every night before bed apply hair oil to your ends and put your hair in a protective hairstyle such as loose braid to keep it from damage while you sleep. ⟶ use rosemary or argan oil to grow and thicken your hair ⟶ trim split/damaged ends when needed ⟶ you can use a scalp scrubber to better clean all the dirt and scalp build up ⟶ avoid excessive heat and when you do, use heat protection
CLOTHES:
⟶ rather than buying every microtrend that exist, invest in quality pieces and create a capsule wardrobe. Keep in mind to adjust it to your own personal style, or if you don't have one you can look ideas up on pinterest. ⟶ wear accesories! Necklaces, bracelets, sunglasses etc can elevate your looks by 1000x! Find out whether gold or silver fits you the best, or maybe you find diamonds or pearls a better fit? ⟶ keep your clothes clean and neat, iron them when needed to avoid looking slumpy
ESSENTIALS:
⟶ brush your teeth 2x a day ⟶ brush and detangle your hair ⟶ use a lip balm to hydrate your lips ⟶ always keep a hand cream near to use when needed ⟶ get enough sleep ⟶ move your body and eat healthy ⟶ stay hydrated, drink at least 2l of water a day
That's everything for today sparkles, I hope you enjoyed this post and I am waiting for your comments on how your glow up journey is going<3

how to reduce acne (and what is acne)
acne is a skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. it typically results in whiteheads, blackheads or pimples that can appear on the face, forehead, chest, upper back and shoulders. acne is most prevalent among teens but can affect people of all ages. several factors contribute to acne, such as excess oil production, buildup of dead skin cells, bacterial growth and inflammation.
acne is not inherently 'bad' but it is a source of discomfort for many people. while acne itself is not a bad thing, it can lead to potential complications if not managed properly, such as scarring or emotional distress.
when reading this post, it is important to remember that everyone's skin is different and what works for one person may not work for another. i'd like to add that i am not a dermatologist, and this post is written with my own experience in mind as well as research online.
reducing acne involves a combination of skincare practices and lifestyle adjustments. here are some recommended actions:
properly wash your face cleanse your face twice daily to remove excess oil, sweat and dirt. some common face washing mistakes include using the wrong cleanser, over-washing your face, under-washing your face, the wrong water temperature and using a dirty washcloth. don't worry if this all seems confusing, here's a post on how to properly wash your face.
know your skin type use products suitable for your skin type only--oily, dry, combination or sensitive. you can find this out by visiting a dermatologist or (alternatively) researching the skin types and seeing which best matches your skin.
moisturise moisturiser curbs dryness, which balances oil production in your face and therefore helps to prevent acne. choose a non-comedogenic moisturiser to not clog your pores.
consider over-the-counter treatments think about acne treatments with ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
stay hydrated drink plenty of water to maintain skin hydration. good hydration helps to maintain skin elasticity, supports the skin's protective functions and prevents sunburn, sensitivity and oiliness. women should drink about 2.7L of fluids every day (including water, other beverages and food).
limit makeup use minimal makeup and ensure that it is non-comedogenic. don't stop wearing makeup if it is something you enjoy, however, try to limit it in acne-strong areas.
don't touch your face this is a big one, and yet so many people do it. keep your hands away from your face to prevent the spread of bacteria. seriously, you use your hands for so much--you don't want the germs of everything you've touched on your face.
limit sun exposure protect your skin with appropriate sunscreen. and remember to re-apply! limiting sun exposure also reduces skin cancer risk. balance is key, though, because the sun is necessary for vitamin d production and maintaining circadian rhythms.
exercise regularly physical activity can help reduce stress, which may contribute to acne.
enjoy a healthy diet eating a well-balanced diet can support skin health. consider reducing dairy and high glycemic foods. a diet with a low glycemic index may help balance hormone levels, which is the same effect when insulin spikes occur less. essential nutrients promote skin health and help to repair and maintain the skin barrier.
invest in stress management find ways to reduce stress, such as journaling or going for a walk. stress can worsen acne. this is because, under stress, the body's healing process slows down, meaning acne can take longer to heal and become more severe. stress hormones can also increase oil production, leading to clogged pores.

Hi! As someone who also struggles with chronic skin picking, what has helped you? I just found your blog!
hello! First of all we need to look at skin picking as a disorder and not just as a "bad habit". I've struggled with skin picking disorder for 18 years and I got tired of hearing people say I could "just stop it" or that I just needed more "motivation". It is a disorder and should be treated as such. I will share below some tips that helped me:
recognize the triggers that lead you to skin picking. anxiety? boredom? mirrors? scan the body to see if the wounds are healed? exposing certain parts of the body? We often pick because we are stressed or nervous about something, but we can also pick because of procrastination, external triggers (mirrors are my biggest trigger and they always lead me to pick at my face) or an internal sense of self-harm, as a punishment for something you did or didn't do. recognizing what makes you pick at your skin is a big step.
find support groups. There are currently some specialized therapists, but not everyone can afford it. If it is financially accessible to you, I recommend that you seek help, as these professionals know validated techniques that can help a lot. I don't have access to this type of therapy, but what helped me a lot was finding communities of people who suffer from this disorder. The best group I found was on Reddit and I joined their WhatsApp group with people from all over the world fighting against skin picking. It is important for our mental health that we do not feel alone and wrong in the world. there are other people struggling with this too.
find your own method of dealing with the disorder. This requires testing and you will get things right and wrong in the process. I mix a little of several techniques that I have found: sometimes I cover the mirrors in my house, sometimes I apply techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (like reducing access to my face or exercising mirror exposure without necessarily scanning the skin for blackheads to pick), sometimes I define a strict time to pick at my face (like a facial scanning session in the morning and one at night, both timed), sometimes I apply them all at the same time. what has worked the most is tracking my progress and trying to beat my own records. Currently my biggest record is 288 pick-free hours (equivalent to 12 days). Now I really want to get to 14 days because I've never gone 2 whole weeks without damaging my face. I'm not very good at rewards, but the right thing to do would be to reward yourself after breaking your personal record (it doesn't matter what it is. It could be an hour. You'll know how hard it goes for you).
Understand that you might not stop picking at your skin. The goal I've been aiming for is to reduce the damage and frequency of skin picking, but I've realized that I can't stop it completely. and this is fine. This is me, this is my story and I decided to be kind to myself. Maybe one day I will be able to stop it completely, but today that is still impossible for me. I'm happier reducing the damage, but I still have massive episodes that I regret later. it is part of the process. I try not to blame myself. I restart my pick-free hours tracking and move on.
accept that you are certainly more aware of the wounds than those around you. Something I've learned in this long process is that, in general, people who really love and care about me don't care about how my skin looks like. They know that I suffer from a disorder and that I have good and bad days. They love me for who I am and not for my appearance. As for people who don't know me, they usually don't notice my wounds, and when they do, they just assume it's acne or something. people are too worried about themselves to care about me. Still, if there are negative comments about you, you can always choose to distance yourself from that person (highly recommended) or teach them about the disorder. Few people know what skin picking is and many of them could benefit from this knowledge. see what fits you better!
I hope this helps and I’d love to hear what you have to say about these tips! I'm here if you want to talk more about this. I hope you find the best way to deal with this.

What is Salicylic Acid
Let's have a Detailed discussion on salicylic acid
The Wonders of Salicylic Acid: A Comprehensive Guide for Clearer, Healthier Skin
Salicylic acid is a popular ingredient in skincare, especially known for its effectiveness in treating acne and exfoliating skin. But what exactly is it, and how does it work? In this blog, we’ll dive into the science behind salicylic acid, explore its many uses, and give you tips on how to incorporate it safely into your skincare routine.
What is Salicylic Acid?
Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) derived from willow bark. Unlike alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which are water-soluble, salicylic acid is oil-soluble. This solubility allows it to penetrate the lipid layers of the skin, reaching deep into pores to dissolve sebum and dead skin cells. This ability to clear out clogged pores makes it an essential ingredient in acne treatments and exfoliating products.
How Does Salicylic Acid Work?
Salicylic acid works by :
- Exfoliating the Skin: It breaks down the bonds between dead skin cells, helping to remove them from the surface and prevent clogged pores.
- Deeply Penetrating Pores : Being oil-soluble, salicylic acid can dissolve into sebum (oil), helping to clear out pores and reduce blackheads and whiteheads.
- Reducing Inflammation : Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, salicylic acid can soothe the redness and irritation associated with acne, making it a great choice for those with sensitive or acne-prone skin.
Benefits of Salicylic Acid for Skin
1. Acne Treatment : Salicylic acid is highly effective for treating mild to moderate acne. It can prevent future breakouts by keeping pores clear and helping to reduce excess oil.
2. Exfoliation : Regular use of salicylic acid promotes gentle exfoliation, which helps to even out skin tone and improve texture. It can minimize the appearance of fine lines and create a smoother, more radiant complexion.
3. Blackhead and Whitehead Removal : Salicylic acid’s ability to penetrate pores makes it excellent for treating blackheads and whiteheads, as it helps to remove blockages from within the pore.
4. Oil Control : By breaking down sebum, salicylic acid helps control excess oil production, making it ideal for those with oily or combination skin.
5. Reducing Inflammation : Its anti-inflammatory effects make it an effective ingredient for calming irritated, red, or inflamed skin.
Common Uses of Salicylic Acid in Skincare
1. Cleansers : Salicylic acid cleansers are gentle, making them suitable for daily use. They help keep pores clean without overly drying out the skin.
2. Toners : Salicylic acid toners add an extra layer of treatment after cleansing, helping to refine pores and balance oil levels.
3. Serums : Higher concentrations of salicylic acid are often found in serums for targeted acne treatment, especially effective on blackheads and whiteheads.
4. Spot Treatments : For stubborn blemishes, salicylic acid spot treatments can reduce inflammation and speed up healing.
5. Exfoliating Masks and Pads: Many brands offer masks or pads infused with salicylic acid to exfoliate and clarify the skin. These can be used weekly for a deeper treatment.
Who Can Benefit Most from Salicylic Acid?
Salicylic acid is most beneficial for people with:
- Oily and Combination Skin : Because it helps regulate sebum production.
- Acne-Prone Skin : Due to its ability to clear pores and reduce breakouts.
- Blackheads and Whiteheads : Its deep-penetrating properties make it ideal for unclogging pores.
However, those with dry or sensitive skin should use it cautiously, as it may lead to dryness or irritation if overused.
How to Use Salicylic Acid in Your Routine
1. Start Slowly : Begin with a lower concentration (0.5-2%) and gradually build up tolerance. Overuse can lead to irritation.
2. Patch Test : Before using a new salicylic acid product, test it on a small patch of skin to check for any adverse reactions.
3. Apply Once a Day : For most skin types, once-daily application is enough. Using it more frequently can lead to excessive dryness.
4. Follow Up with Moisturizer 🧴 🍦: Salicylic acid can be drying, so it’s essential to keep your skin hydrated with a non-comedogenic moisturizer.
5. Use Sunscreen ☀️ 🏖️ 🧴: Salicylic acid can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun, so always wear sunscreen during the day to prevent UV damage.
Potential Side Effects and Precautions
While salicylic acid is generally safe, it can cause dryness, irritation, or peeling, especially if you’re using high concentrations or applying it too frequently. Here are some precautions to take:
- Avoid Overuse : Using too much salicylic acid can damage the skin barrier and lead to redness and irritation.
- Do Not Combine with Strong Exfoliants : Avoid using salicylic acid with other strong acids (like AHAs) or retinoids, as this can increase irritation.
- Be Cautious with Sensitive Skin : If you have sensitive skin, start with products containing a lower concentration of salicylic acid or consider using it every other day.
Frequently Asked Questions About Salicylic Acid
1. How long does it take to see results with salicylic acid?
It can take 2 to 4 weeks to see noticeable results, as the acid works gradually to clear pores and reduce acne. Consistency is key, so stick with it.
2. Can I use salicylic acid with other skincare ingredients?
Yes, salicylic acid pairs well with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and soothing agents like niacinamide. However, avoid combining it with other strong exfoliants to minimize irritation.
3. Is salicylic acid safe for daily use?
Yes, salicylic acid is safe for daily use at lower concentrations (0.5-2%), though starting with a few times a week may help prevent irritation as your skin adjusts.
4. Should I use salicylic acid if I have dry skin?
Those with dry skin should use it sparingly and follow up with a hydrating moisturizer. You may also consider using it just once or twice a week to avoid excessive dryness.
Conclusion: Embrace the Power of Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid is a fantastic ingredient for anyone looking to improve their skin’s clarity and texture, especially for those prone to acne or oily skin. By understanding its properties and using it wisely, you can achieve smoother, clearer skin with a healthy glow. Remember to introduce it gradually into your skincare routine, pair it with hydrating ingredients, and always protect your skin with sunscreen. Embrace the science behind skincare, and let salicylic acid work its magic for a clearer, more radiant complexion.

How to use salicylic acid and Retinol together
It may surprise you to learn that using Retinol and Salicylic Acid together to cure breakouts and lessen the appearance of skin ageing is safe and effective,
Incorporating Retinol and salicylic acid into your skincare regimen can be quite beneficial for addressing various skin issues, such as wrinkles, acne, and clogged pores. When appropriately applied, these are vital ingredients that can help revitalise your skin, improve its texture, and increase its clarity. But if misused, they can also be annoying, so knowing how to use them together is essential. Continue reading to find out how to use salicylic acid and Retinol together.
Salicylic Acid: What Is It?
Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that dissolves dead skin cells and excess oil by penetrating deeply into the pores. It is renowned for:
minimising whiteheads and blackheads
cleaning the pores to prevent acne outbreaks by exfoliating the outermost layer of skin
Retinol: What Is It?
One type of vitamin A called Retinol speeds up the turnover of skin cells to show smoother, more youthful-looking skin. It supports:
wrinkles and fine lines
Over Pigmentation
enhancing the texture of the skin
Salicylic acid vs. retinol for acne
You probably want the best components in your skincare arsenal if you’re struggling with the ups and downs of adult acne: Salicylic Acid is one of acne’s worst foes, and Retinol is the gold standard for minimising the look of skin ageing, particularly the scars left behind by breakouts. Theoretically, this dynamic pair is all you need to overcome adult acne. However, when combined, typical Retinol and Salicylic Acid solutions can irritate the skin, weakening the skin’s protective layer and impeding your progress towards cleaner skin.
What skin benefits does salicylic acid offer?
Salicylic acid, the most widely used BHA, was initially made from willow tree bark. Because it is an oil-soluble exfoliator, it can dissolve dead skin cells and oils stuck in pores by penetrating your skin’s sebum.
Benefits of salicylic acid in general
Exfoliant: removes dead skin cells
Breaks down oil that has become stuck in pores.
Anti-inflammatory: reduces flushing
Antibacterial: destroys germs
breakdown of keratin by a keratolytic
How does Retinol benefit the skin?
Retinol, a robust and water-soluble antioxidant derived from vitamin A, accelerates the process of cell turnover and promotes replacing older, dead cells with new, living ones. Less dead cell accumulation reduces the possibility of those cells obstructing your pores.
Retinol relieves several skin conditions, such as:
Unknown
wrinkles and fine lines
Production of collagen
sun-related harm
Over Pigmentation

How to Shrink and Reduce the Appearance of Large Pores
Pores are supported by a collagen-rich structure that keeps them in place. This structure is made up of collagen and glycosaminoglycans in the deeper layers of the skin.
If the support structure weakens due to age or environmental factors, the pores can sag, dilate, and become more visible.
How to Strengthen the Support Structure:
Protect What You Have: The main enemy of collagen is UV radiation from the sun, which breaks down collagen and damages the support structure. Sunscreen (broad-spectrum, SPF 30 or higher) applied regularly can prevent UV damage, maintaining the strength of the support system.
Boost Collagen Production: Use skincare ingredients like retinoids, vitamin C, and niacinamide, which are known to stimulate collagen production. Treatments like microneedling and dermaplaning can also promote collagen production in the skin.
2. Excess Sebum (Oil) Production
Sebaceous glands produce oil that moves through the pores.
When excess oil is produced, it enlarges the bowl-shaped structure at the base of the pore, causing the pore to dilate and become more visible.
How to Control Oil Production:
Use products containing niacinamide, which research shows can regulate sebum production.
Limit sugar intake. High sugar consumption increases insulin levels, which stimulates oil production. Reducing sugar can help keep oil levels in check.
3. Clogged Pores
When pores become clogged with dirt, dead skin cells, excess oil, and makeup, the bowl-like structure of the pore enlarges.
This causes the pore opening to become more noticeable.
How to Unclog Pores:
Remove Makeup Thoroughly: Always remove makeup at the end of the day to prevent clogged pores.
Avoid Comedogenic Ingredients: Be cautious of skincare products containing ingredients that may clog pores (comedogenic ingredients).
Cleanse Regularly: Regular cleansing helps remove dirt and oil from the skin's surface.
Exfoliate with BHA: Use a BHA (beta hydroxy acid) like salicylic acid regularly. Salicylic acid penetrates deep into pores, unclogging them by removing dirt and oil from the inside.
4. Imbalanced Keratinization
Keratinization is the process by which new skin cells are produced and old cells are shed.
When this process slows down, old skin cells remain on the surface, causing pores to appear larger as the skin thickens.
How to Normalize Keratinization:
Exfoliate Regularly: Use chemical exfoliants like AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) or BHAs (beta hydroxy acids), such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, or salicylic acid to remove dead skin cells and promote smoother skin.
Boost Cell Turnover: Retinoids are effective in speeding up cell turnover, ensuring that new skin cells are formed regularly and old cells are removed efficiently.
5. Avoid Squeezing Pores
Physically squeezing or manipulating pores can make them appear larger. While it may be tempting to pop blackheads or squeeze pores, this can actually stretch and distort the pore, making it look worse.
What to Do Instead:
Avoid touching or squeezing your pores. Instead, stick to proper cleansing and exfoliation routines to keep them clear and healthy.
Bonus Tip: Hormonal Fluctuations During Menstruation
During menstruation, increased levels of progesterone can stimulate oil production, leading to clogged pores. This can make the pores appear larger.
How to Manage Hormonal Breakouts:
Cleanse your face regularly during this time, and ensure you're exfoliating with a BHA to prevent clogged pores.
Recap: How to Shrink the Appearance of Large Pores
Strengthen the Support Structure: Protect your skin with sunscreen and boost collagen production with ingredients like retinoids, niacinamide, and vitamin C.
Control Sebum Production: Use niacinamide and reduce sugar intake to prevent excess oil production.
Unclog Pores: Remove makeup, avoid comedogenic ingredients, cleanse regularly, and exfoliate with a BHA like salicylic acid.
Balance Keratinization: Regularly exfoliate and use retinoids to maintain smooth skin and prevent old cells from clogging pores.
Avoid Squeezing Pores: Leave your pores alone and let proper skincare routines do the work.
By addressing these five causes of enlarged pores, you can significantly reduce their appearance and enjoy smoother, clearer skin.

What skincare to use to help acne <3
First of all, keep in mind that acne is natural. It's nothing we should feel extremely insecure about. Everyone's beautiful in their own way 🙂.
Salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid. It’s well-known for reducing acne by exfoliating the skin and keeping pores clear. When your pores get plugged with dead skin cells and oil, blackheads, whiteheads or pimples often appear. Salicylic acid penetrates your skin and works to dissolve the dead skin cells clogging your pores. Salicylic acid is consider safe for teens to use as well. If you use this make sure to follow with a very hydrating moisturiser as this acid can leave skin very dry as it removes oil from the skin.
Benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide works as an antiseptic to reduce the number of germs and bacteria on the surface of your skin. Like Salicylic acid, it can also lead to dry skin so remember to use a moisturiser afterwards. This is also safe for teens to use.
Niacinamide acid. Niacinamide acid is a form of vitamin B3. Niacinamide is an anti-inflammatory that works to reduce the redness and swelling associated with acne. It also works to regulate the amount of acne-causing oil being produced by the glands in your skin. One cause of acne is to much sebum or oil being produced, so since niacinamide regulates the amount of sebum being produced it helps with acne. This product is also teen safe <3.
Diet. Sometimes your diet can lead to too much sebum production and affect your hormones causing an hormonal imbalance, which can also lead to acne and other skin concerns. Also remember to stay hydrated!
A lot of the time regularly washing your face might be enough. It honestly depends on you age and the amount of acne that you have. If you are considering using any of the product please research them and check with a doctor or dermatologist if you can use them. Remember that if you feel a burning sensation on your face your skin is getting irritated and you should stop using that product.
Lifestyle. How much excerise you do, the amount of stress you have can also impact acne as well.
I hope this helps some of you :D. Bye, and remember to stay postive.

The benefits of Aleppo soap
The beneficial properties of this particular type of Syrian soap are different: first of all it has an antibacterial power, and is therefore suitable for those suffering from dermatological problems such as eczema, acne and psoriasis.
Also effective for simple blackheads on the face.
It is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and disinfectant, so it prevents and fights infections.
All this is due to the action of laurel oil, an emollient.
It helps wound healing, thanks to its regenerative abilities that restore shine to the skin with vitamin C. It also stimulates the synthesis of collagen and elastin proteins.
Prevents premature skin aging and keeps you young thanks to its antioxidant properties.
This is possible thanks to the action of vitamins A and E.
Aleppo soap has no fragrances, it does not smell like rose, lavender or other flower soaps smell.
Laurel and olive are particularly odorless and thanks also to the treatment with sodium hydroxide, even when the soap is made as liquid Aleppo soap, it is suitable for those suffering from skin allergies.
Furthermore, it also has antioxidant properties.
It does not contain aggressive surfactants and its particular natural scent has a truly relaxing effect on our senses.
HOW TO USE ALEPPO SOAP: 3 TRICKS THAT IMPROVE EFFECTIVENESS
Aleppo soap on the skin
Lightly moisten the Aleppo soap in solid format and use its soft foam to massage the wet skin.
To obtain greater benefits, leave the foam to rest for 5 - 10 minutes and then rinse: a sufficiently long time that will give great satisfaction!
Aleppo soap for men's beards
Lightly moisten the Aleppo soap and rub it on your skin when you shave: it will make an excellent shaving foam!
And that's not all: you can also use it once you've shaved, before drying, leaving it to rest for 5 minutes.
You'll see how soft and perfectly hydrated your skin is!
Aleppo soap for hair
In addition to cleansing the scalp well, Aleppo soap helps prevent hair loss and reduce dandruff.
Also in this case the secret is to distribute the foam, massage the head well working on the roots of the hair and leave to rest for 5 minutes.
For an even brighter result, when you move on to the final rinse, dilute two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water, and let it rest for another couple of minutes.

The Power of Blue Light Therapy for Acne: Shedding Light on Clearer Skin
Acne, a common skin condition that affects millions of people worldwide, can be a source of frustration and self-consciousness. However, there is a ray of hope in the form of blue light therapy. This post will let you understand benefits, mechanisms, and effectiveness of blue light therapy for acne.
Understanding Acne
Acne is a dermatological condition characterized by clogged pores, inflammation, and the presence of blemishes such as pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. Excess production of sebum, hormonal imbalances, or bacterial overgrowth often causes it. While there are various treatment options available, blue light therapy has emerged as a promising and non-invasive solution.
How Does Blue Light Therapy Work?
Blue light therapy utilizes a specific wavelength of light, typically in the range of 405-420 nanometers, to target the bacteria responsible for acne breakouts: Propionibacterium acnes. Furthermore, blue light therapy offers several additional benefits. It does not damage the surrounding healthy skin, making it an ideal choice for targeting specific areas. The treatment is also convenient, with sessions typically lasting only a few minutes, allowing individuals to easily incorporate it into their daily skincare routine. Unlike some oral medications or topical creams, best light therapy acne treatment device has no significant side effects, making it suitable for long-term use.
Blue light therapy presents a breakthrough in acne treatment, providing a safe, effective, and non-invasive option for individuals struggling with this skin condition. By harnessing the power of specific wavelengths, blue light therapy targets acne-causing bacteria and reduces inflammation, leading to clearer and healthier skin. Consider discussing this option with a dermatologist to embark on your journey to blemish-free skin.

Nishiki's Skincare
Nish will do my skincare with me! Sometimes he'll even join me unprompted. He clips back his hair and my man gets INTO IT!!! He has a favorites amongst my products and everything. He's not good with everything though- peel off masks is one way to get him screaming like a little baby. He's soooo sensitive and we had to stop using them for him. He will only use masks that will go away with a little water. He lets me perform full-on spa level service facials on him and again, I'm telling you he gets so into it! He was really out here encouraging me to get my esthetician's license. I love him so much. And the best part is that he's not ashamed of it, once he saw how my facials help reduced the appearance of blackheads in his nose and forehead, he ACTUALLY NOTICED! And would come to me like, "Hey baaabe, look..." showing me his skin, "think it's time for another one yet?" or "Feel how rough my cheek is? What should we do about it?" The pretty boy likes to feel pretty what can I say ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ He's kind of a pro, tho. Like, he enjoys the bonding that comes with doing this stuff with me but once I've shown him what to do enough times he's good to go on his own!

How Do Body Scrubs Work? The Benefits and Process of Exfoliation
A body scrub is a popular skincare treatment designed to exfoliate the skin, removing dead cells and leaving your skin feeling soft, smooth, and rejuvenated. But how do body scrubs work, and what makes them so effective? In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of a body scrub, the types available, and the amazing benefits that come from regular exfoliation.
What Is a Body Scrub?
A body scrub is a treatment that typically involves massaging an exfoliating mixture onto the skin. The mixture usually contains small particles (like sugar, salt, or coffee grounds) that gently scrub away the dead skin cells from the surface. These particles are combined with moisturizing agents such as oils (e.g., coconut oil or olive oil), which help hydrate and soften the skin during the process.
But how do body scrubs work specifically? Body scrubs exfoliate the skin through friction. The small particles or granules in the scrub scrub away the top layer of dead skin cells, helping to reveal smoother and fresher skin underneath.
How Do Body Scrubs Work? The Process of Exfoliation
1. Exfoliation: Removing Dead Skin Cells
The main purpose of a body scrub is exfoliation, which involves the mechanical removal of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Over time, dead skin cells build up, which can make your skin look dull and feel rough. So how do body scrubs work to remove those dead cells? By gently scrubbing with small abrasive particles, body scrubs physically exfoliate the skin, making it look more radiant and soft.
When you apply a body scrub, the scrub particles work by gently sloughing off the top layer of dead skin cells. This process helps to unclog pores, preventing blackheads and acne, and allows your skin to better absorb moisturizers and other skincare products.
2. Massaging the Scrub: Increasing Blood Circulation
In addition to exfoliation, the act of massaging a body scrub into your skin can help to improve blood circulation. The circular motion of massaging helps to stimulate the lymphatic system and increase blood flow to the skin’s surface. This can result in healthier, more vibrant skin over time.
So, how do body scrubs work to boost circulation? The rubbing motion, combined with the natural exfoliation, stimulates the blood vessels beneath your skin, promoting a healthy glow and detoxifying your body by encouraging the removal of toxins.
3. Moisturizing Benefits: Hydrating and Softening the Skin
While body scrubs primarily focus on exfoliating, many scrubs also contain hydrating ingredients such as essential oils, glycerin, or honey. These ingredients nourish the skin, leaving it soft and moisturized. This is especially important because exfoliating can sometimes leave your skin feeling dry or tight if not properly followed up with hydration.
So, when you ask how do body scrubs work in terms of moisturizing, it's through these hydrating agents that lock moisture into your skin, leaving you with a soft, smooth feel.
Types of Body Scrubs
There are many types of body scrubs available, each offering unique benefits based on the ingredients used:
1. Salt Scrubs
Salt scrubs are often made with sea salt or Epsom salts and are particularly effective for deep exfoliation. The coarse texture of salt makes it ideal for rougher areas of the skin, such as elbows, knees, and feet. Salt scrubs can also be therapeutic, as they help to soothe sore muscles and detoxify the skin.
2. Sugar Scrubs
Sugar scrubs are gentler than salt scrubs, making them suitable for sensitive skin. Sugar has natural humectant properties, meaning it helps to attract moisture to the skin, leaving it feeling soft and hydrated. Sugar scrubs are often used on the face or more delicate areas of the body.
3. Coffee Scrubs
Coffee scrubs are growing in popularity due to their stimulating properties. The caffeine in coffee scrubs can temporarily tighten the skin, reduce the appearance of cellulite, and improve circulation. Additionally, coffee’s natural antioxidants help to protect the skin from environmental damage and promote a more even skin tone.
4. Herbal and Natural Scrubs
Some body scrubs contain botanicals and herbs such as lavender, chamomile, or mint. These scrubs offer a soothing and aromatic experience, in addition to the exfoliating benefits. Herbal scrubs are great for those with sensitive or reactive skin, as they are typically made with gentle, natural ingredients.
Benefits of Using a Body Scrub
Regular use of a body scrub offers a variety of skincare benefits, and how do body scrubs work to achieve these results? Through exfoliation, hydration, and stimulation, body scrubs deliver the following benefits:
1. Smooth, Radiant Skin
Exfoliating with a body scrub helps to remove dead skin cells, revealing smoother, more radiant skin. By boosting skin cell turnover, scrubs promote a youthful glow and keep your skin looking fresh.
2. Prevents Ingrown Hairs
Exfoliation helps to keep hair follicles clear, reducing the likelihood of ingrown hairs. Regular scrubbing before shaving or waxing can help prevent this common issue.
3. Detoxification and Improved Circulation
The act of scrubbing can help stimulate blood flow and promote detoxification, encouraging the removal of toxins through the skin. This results in healthier, more vibrant-looking skin.
4. Hydration and Softness
By combining exfoliation with moisturizing ingredients, body scrubs help to keep the skin hydrated and soft. You’ll feel pampered with every application, and your skin will be left feeling silky smooth.
5. Relaxation and Stress Relief
The massaging action of applying a body scrub can help reduce muscle tension and relieve stress. Many people find the experience of a body scrub to be a soothing, meditative process, perfect for unwinding after a long day.
How to Use a Body Scrub at Home
Now that you understand how body scrubs work, let’s go over how to use them at home effectively:
Start with Clean, Damp Skin: It’s best to apply a body scrub after a warm shower or bath to open up your pores and soften the skin.
Apply the Scrub: Take a generous amount of the scrub and gently massage it onto your skin in circular motions. Focus on rough areas like your elbows, knees, and feet.
Rinse Thoroughly: Once you’ve scrubbed all over, rinse off the scrub with warm water, and pat your skin dry with a towel.
Moisturize: Finish the process with your favorite body lotion or oil to lock in hydration.
