OC NAMING TIPS!!

quick tips for naming when your super confuzzled

-Find an adjective or attribute that desccribes your character well, and search up "names that mean xxx" (Example: Mustafa=Chosen, Amaris=child of the moon, Circe=magic. etc!)

-Open a random letter generator (i know, i know) and go until you find a good name, feel free to modify ofc

-Imagine the character's general personality: what would they want their name to be? if given the choice what would they choose?

-be cryptic and make secrets. rearrange words important to the character or reverse them. is it cringe? cringe culture is dead. be fucking spooky.

-stare at their design until a random fucking name pops into your head (works I swear)

-set in a normal, realistic IRL environment? look through baby name lists online or ask ur guardians if your in casual contact with them

Alright, I'm gonna have to be ""that"" person here is a PSA if you're making an OC with a Chinese name:

In Chinese, the last name goes first and then the first name. Same applies for Japanese and Korean. E.g. it's Hua Mulan, not Mulan Hua. Hua is her family name

If you want to write their name in Chinese, because lets be real Chinese characters look hella cool, please look up how to write them. When you write in Chinese, stroke orders play an important role. What is Chinese Stroke Order:

here is a very useful website where you can put in a Chinese character and it will show you the correct stroke order

3. Please double if you used the correct Tone Mark Placement when you're writing their name with latin letter. Tone marks are the lil accents on top of vowels:

I know it's hard to find the correct tone mark on the keyboard sometimes, but if you mix up á and à, those are two different sounds, and changes the meaning of the character/word.

I've had to gently correct some people already about the tone marks used because I can tell what their name was supposed to be but it was the wrong pinyin

yet another oc that only exists because i wanted to write something very specific

(middle is a little older, hence her scar healing. i like to think she gets a glass eye at some point)

anyway this is mira! (they/she) since that wip is almost 20k words and counting i won’t give away too much but long story short she’s the result of meta going “one last time, i promise” and adopting yet another kid

also galaxia kinda indirectly picked the name :)

i’ve mentioned before that i headcanon that pretty much all astrals are autistic and this is just kinda an extension of that. whereas meta tends to suppress his emotions and conform to others, mira…doesn’t. she gets uncomfortable and upset and lashes out at people easily, and working through their emotions is no small task.

the main reason i chose to write them that way was for the sake of narrative but i’ve grown attached to it because there’s a lot of ideas there i’d like to explore. stuff about navigating emotions and relationships when existing is so suffocatingly uncomfortable. it’s not something i could center around Kirby himself, but i think it makes sense with a post character development meta knight.

kirby was definitely very excited to have younger siblings after being used to being the youngest in the room for so long!! (with the like. one and only exception being gooey.) he’s super affectionate with both of them and wants to have a close relationship one day, but for now mira is pretty unappreciative of that fact lol. they don’t like being pestered for hugs

everyone else is okay tho

(i know that’s hard to read. oops. “obvious bite marks”. siblings being siblings.)

mira also has a very love/hate relationship with the egg kid, being so close in age they kinda Have to get along but in typical sibling nature they also fight a lot. sure it’s probably rough for a while but i think in the end they’d be good buddies. maybe not as close as Kirby and Bandee but still.

anyway i have a lot of thoughts and am very busy but. i’m really enjoying writing about all this lately it’s been fun ^^

I kinda hopped into the dc fandom by reading fics (I know I know lmao)

But as I've read more comics and looked into different characterization and analysis I now have a more developed idea as to how I view a lot of the characters and have preferences to how their written. I'm def the type to click out a fic if I find myself thinking 'he would not fucking say that'

Anyway this is just to say it's very funny to me when I go thru some of the fics I bookmarked at the begining of my interest and find myself going Uh Oh! I don't think I can read this anymore!

Wanda lore just dropped !

Her incredibly unfinished Toyhouse

Wanda Whelk is a psychic super villain tasked with the mission of seizing control of Otto Mentallis’s Personal Astralathe Exhibition with the help of an invention called the Brain Scrambler! Raz must venture into her mind and find some way to stop this Hightide Schadenfreude!

This level would function mostly like a psychonauts 1 level, in that doing the level progresses the story, but Wanda’s mind doesn’t Actually have anything to do with the plot. Except maybe a little as this is where Raz would really unlock his hydrokinesis in a kind of fight or flight, as the whole level is water water water. Also building off of my headcanon that even though Lucy is fine with psychics now, she doesn’t really want to use them especially not enough to personally teach Raz do to their associations + Raz isn’t trying to accidentally psychically DROWN himself anymore but he’s still a little afraid of water.

The level itself would be broken up into, The Boardwalk; where you would do some puzzles, platforming, as well as fight some censors and boardwalk residents as some of them can become hostile. The Stadium; which you make your way over to in the boardwalk, here you fight Wanda. Then the TBA third section; where you get drained into after the stadium fight. This section would somewhat deal with her backstory, as well as be the point where all three C.R.I.M.E. agents agree to the stalemate with the Psychonauts.
