I'll start by letting you know the timing of this ask was just excellent, lol!😅

This ship is an interesting one...

Ok so, when it comes to OG Jade and Kitana, I always thought their friendship was simply IMMACULATE!

I just adored their dynamic!

For me, you just can't go wrong with the "princess becomes besties with her lady-in-waiting/royal guard" trope! (And Jade just happens to be both, lol)

They are really sweet! I love Jade's undying loyalty to Kitana, and I love that she helps Kitana feel she's not alone and that there's someone she can rely on!

Jade is a true ride or die and I love that about her!

I just love my gemstones!💙💚

But that was about it for me, I never really felt like changing anything cause their relationship as it was was already perfect and I didn't even have an Edenian-centric AU to explore it and maybe grow to see their relationship as anything else.

That is... Until my Umgadi Girls AU!

It is a shame we will probably have to wait for MK2.0 to finally see what their new relationship looks like. But just the crumbs we were given are just SO GOOD??

I just love how Liu and Geras call Jade "critical to Kitana's future" and say Kitana should "keep her close" and also how Tanya assures Sindel Jade can be trusted as Kitana's friend!

I quite love how even though they met in different circumstances and have different roles, they still became friends! This gives such strong soulmate energy and I love it!

I love that Kitana has a friend in the court now! She really felt lonely, I mean, Mileena has Tanya, Sindel had Jerrod (and Li Mei) but I don't remember Kitana mentioning having anyone outside her family.

And with her parents struggling to have Ermac's control and Mileena drowning in her Empress responsibilities. Kitana doesn't really have her family the same way she had before.

So yeah, Jade entering her life was quite the blessing!

Not to mention she was struggling to gain the royal army's trust and you BET she kept it from Mileena in fear it would burden her!

Given Jade's personality, I imagine though she was born noble, she doesn’t quite like being nobility, cause most of the time she feels useless!

So when Kitana started to load all her troubles on her, she finally found a way to contribute to her kingdom: She would help her princess!

Jade grows to be Kitana's unofficial royal advisor and Kitana liked that she doesn't have to be the sole voice of reason and have all the answers!

Kitana gives Jade purpose and Jade gives Kitana a break from all the chaos in her life.

This exchange is has me captivated and I want to bring it to my Umgadi Girls AU, where I'll be developing it to the point I'll be 110% on board the JadeTana ship!

So long story short: OG JadeTana is my Platonic OTP and New Era JadeTana is my OTP!

The Arcane fandom, especially on TikTok is never beating the allegations because why, now, some fans act like it's too inconceivable to imagine that Ambessa was, not only, pregnant twice but gave birth twice as well? And their reasoning for this is "She looks like the type to get a man pregnant instead" or "She's too tough for that, I just can't see someone like her going through that." There are layers to these statements because, for one, just because someone, especially a woman, is a dominant force doesn't mean that they can't get/don't want to become pregnant (do you believe overtly dominant men can't be fathers?) It's also very weird because the undertones of misogyny and misogynoir and the overt masculinization of black women are there because, not only are they viewing pregnancy and giving birth, in general, to be viewed as something "weak" (even though it's grueling hours of labor that results in tearing the body apart, sometimes even death) but also attempts to strip Ambessa of her nuance. Yes, she is strong and very dominant, but she also deeply loved her children, who she birthed, and when one was taken away from her it changed her deeply. It's very gross to view a character like her in this way because it also reflects how you view dominant women in real life, pregnancy, and childbirth as a whole. Like how are you going to praise Arcane for having such a wide and diverse ensemble of female characters, but then have misogynistic takes like this? Make it make sense.

god what really gets me about dead boy detectives and what i think i love so much about the show and the relationships in it is that like. the romantic and sexual relationships aren't portrayed as being more unique or important than the platonic relationships. they're all just RELATIONSHIPS.

charles and crystal's attraction to each other and eventual hookup isn't this big end-all be-all relationship that shatter charles and edwin's friendship and draws charles' attention away from edwin; it's just a THING that happens. they're just two people that care about each other and happen to also be attracted to each other, and a hook-up happens, then they decide that neither of them are in the right place for it and it's nothing awful. crystal kisses charles, but it isn't some big spectacle of her declaring her love for him; it's just her saying goodbye and that she cares about him, like her hugs with niko and jenny and her handshake with edwin.

edwin realizes he loves charles romantically and tells him, and charles says he doesn't really love edwin romantically BACK, but it's okay, because they still love each other so much in so many other ways that this one tiny difference could never change them—and it doesn't!! they're still just as close, still care for each other just as much, still SHOW that care for each other just as much. their relationship didn't completely end because edwin loved charles in a way charles couldn't reciprocate, but at the same time it isn't "solved" by edwin getting over it, because there's nothing TO solve. it's just another type of love, added to everything that already exists between them. and they have LITERALLY FOREVER to figure out what it means.

the relationships between edwin & niko, crystal & niko, and crystal & edwin aren't given any less weight for being solely platonic, just as charles & crystal's relationship and edwin's feelings for charles aren't given (that much) MORE weight for being romantic. crystal and charles' conflict in the closet is about EDWIN, about how they're BOTH his friend and BOTH want to get him back; it has very little to do with the feelings between THEM, romantic or otherwise. similarly, the weight of charles' and edwin's relationship isn't diminished in the LEAST by charles not reciprocating the romantic side of his feelings (or SAYING he doesn't reciprocate, at least—we can all argue about the legitimacy of that in the notes).

i'm sure there are more examples than this, as well as probably some examples that CONTRADICT this, but like... by and large, it feels like dead boy detectives is a show where all the relationships are given equal weight regardless of platonic, sexual, romantic, or familial status, and as someone on both the asexual and aromantic spectrums who has struggled time and time again with shows casting out the importance of all other relationships in favor of prioritizing romance, that is INCREDIBLY refreshing to see.

thinking about post canon and the difficulties of a new kingdom

firstly the island wasn't even a kingdom, in itself the change back into aristocracy would have people thrown back plus the guy don't even have royal blood??? he may be the "demon eater" and ward off monsters but the surprise would wear off and then what? he's not known or noble born or loved by the people, he's a legend but that's all! he needs to be known, loved and respected by his citizens!

thinking about kabru running himself to the ground trying to teach laios how to carry himself, organize banquets with nearby village leaders, organizing festivals and balls to increase morale

but what made me think all of this is how awful would be to teach laios ballroom dances, i don't doubt laios knows folk dances as the son of a village leader but try teaching that man how to waltz and you will know the meaning of having two left feet

I pity yaad and kabru for all hours spent in a lost cause, I think marcille would also try to help but with her dance moves....well,also falin is probably just as bad

mithrun can probably waltz (or some elven variant of it) as he has noble blood, so a week before the ball is filled with long days spent trying to teach him etiquette and long nights trying to teach him how to waltz (it would be romantic if kabru wasn't infuriated and about to pop a blood vessel)
