Lady Galyne Borrell
Status: Free!
I've used her in a small fic before, but I didn't like where it was going so I deleted it. Galyne grew on me, though, so I would love to see someone using her for their own imagine / fic / drabble <3 Send me a PM, an ask or reblog if you are interested in using her for a story :)
Divider by @anlian-aishang
Lady Galyne Borrell of Sweetsister
House: Borrell
Region: The Vale
Parents: Father Waylar Borrell (dead), Mother Sanda Longthorpe. No siblings, but has living male Borrell cousins.
Time: Can be used for every era. During the Dance of the Dragons, Jacaerys Velaryon got the Borrell's support for House Black. The Borell's overlords - the Sunderlands - got them involved into the Blackfyre Rebellions. Ned Stark sailed from Sweetsister to White Harbor. Ser Davos Seaworth is left on Sweetsister in ASOIAF.
Age: 19
Religion: Faith of the Seven
Marital Status: Single
Spice level: ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🖤🖤
Personality: Galyne is relatively quiet and modest. She usually bites back most remarks and even though she is not well-versed in courtly life, she can adapt very well through her stoic attitude. She is a fast learner and even though she tends to be quite distant and even ruthless when the situation escalates, she is generally a pious, well-meaning young woman. She is very proud of her heritage and will defend it to great lengths.
Physical Appearance: She is described by others as 'plain and awfully average'. She's chubby, of average height and has green eyes. Galyne has remarkably long, wavy mouse-brown hair, which she takes great pride in. She is relatively pale, has ruddy cheeks and a smattering of freckles over the bridge of her nose.
Special quirks: She tends to embroider the Borrell crab on every dress she wears. Because she is a Borell, she has 'the mark' - a sort of webbing between her three middle fingers.
Face Claim: None
Moodboard prompts: Dark Sea, Sea Storms, Irish coast, siren aesthetic.

Considering noblewomen aren’t expected to cook in Westerosi society, is it therefore implied it would be embarrassing for Lord Borrell to brag about his granddaughter being a great cook if he were talking to a proper lordly lord, and not Davos of House Seaworth? Like, the equivalent of bragging that she really knows how to dig a ditch or something?
Its more of a sign that House Borrell is pretty far down the pecking order and thus closer to smallfolk than your traditional mainland lord. Also, keep in mind, the Borrells are Sistermen. They probably don't give two f*cks what some snotty-nosed blueblood from the Vale or savage northron thinks.
Edit: Can you blame him for being proud though? Sister's stew sounds utterly delicious.
Thanks for the question, anon

Their angel AU art
note: This is NOT what i think Darling looks like, its just easier to draw Darling as myself rather than a gray y/n.
do not repost my art <3 notes: i wrote this before bed please forgive me if its bad or a bit weird.
I've been thinking of Otto n Darlings first kiss.. perhaps she had heard during a walk around the castle and passing the Council Room she heard a rather heated conversation...
"Betrothal" and her own name being amidst it. She's wrought with worry and the next morning she's walking around the royal garden, Otto comes to find her (often they like to eat breakfast with each other,,, she tends to eat half a breakfast with her targaryen family and the other half with Otto)
She brings up with she heard in the council room, Otto admits that... talk of betrothing her to someone was brought up, a few suggestions made but no real answer has been found. She asks who the suggestions were, she wishes to know who she will be bound to.
Otto names a few, A beesbury boy, Lord Godric Borrel of House Borrel, and some other minor ones... and Otto himself. Darling thinks to herself and Otto apologises(even if its fake lol), the king wanted to keep her around and Otto suggested himself.
"i wouldn't mind.." she says, stepping closer, "you.. you are kind. You are honest, and at the very least i do know you." she is so close that her head is tilting up to look at him now.
They lean closer n closer,,, Otto's hand is on her hip. "Is this what you want?" he whispers,
"yes." her voice is soft and hot against his lips, so close now. So close.
Her hands feel his beard, sitting upon his cheeks and pulling him down to close the mere inch between them. Their lips meet for the first time, pressing her body against his, almost trying to meld their bodies into one.
This is what he craved for, this is what his body yearned for. Her. To make her his wife, even if he had to steal her to Oldtown and keep her from everyone else. He'd do it.

"Last month, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell called Gaza 'a graveyard for tens of thousands of people and also a graveyard for many of the most important principles of humanitarian law'. The reality may be even worse.
I fear it may become the graveyard of liberalism itself. Three decades ago, liberalism was the lead chariot in the procession of the liberal democratic project.
New democracies were emerging in Europe; the Soviet Union had crumbled, and Russia was in transition; the Berlin Wall had fallen; and South Africa's apartheid regime was collapsing.
Even China exhibited signs of change. Liberal democracy appeared invincible, both in practice and in theory.
There appeared to be no real competition as it stood out as a triumphant and principled form of governance. Ask any well-versed liberal arts student and they will recite that liberalism is a political and philosophical ideology centred on the principles of individual liberty, equality and limited government.
They will point out that it emphasises the protection of individual rights and freedoms, including freedom of speech, religion and assembly, as well as the rule of law and democratic governance.
While advocating for a market-based economy with private property rights, free trade and minimal government regulation, liberalism also promotes social welfare programmes to alleviate disadvantages and ensure equal opportunities for all citizens.
Additionally, liberalism supports the idea of pluralism, tolerance and diversity, aiming to create societies where individuals can pursue their own interests and live according to their own beliefs without undue interference from the state.
The essence of liberalism lies in its commitment to the rule of law and human rights. Sounds amazing, so what’s the problem, you may be asking? Those observing the “plausible genocide” without a propaganda lens over the last six months have had front-row seats on a systematic erosion of liberal values and ideals.
Gaza has exposed western hypocrisy and double standards, and it has shaken liberalism to its core. Both domestic and international commitment to the rule of law, human rights and a rules-based order are being undermined by, arguably, the most powerful lobby in the world. Pro-Israeli lobbies have hijacked most western liberal democracies.
The whole world is now privy to the shameless pimping of western politicians previously documented in Congressman Paul Findley's 1985 book They Dare to Speak Out and reinforced by the 2007 book The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy, by political scientists John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt.
As an anonymous commentator wrote: “People think Gaza is occupied, but in reality, Gaza is free but the whole world is occupied.” Liberal elites and leaders who joined millions in support of free speech and proclaimed “Je suis Charlie” in solidarity with the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo after terrorists killed 12 people at its Paris offices in 2015 to try to shut it down, are now calling for suppression of free speech. By a vote of 377-44-1, the US House passed a resolution that the "slogan, 'from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free' is antisemitic and its use must be condemned".
Of course, the statement is not threatening or condemnable if you substitute “Palestine'' with “Israel”, as you see being done by many Israeli supporters and in the Likud manifesto.
The University of Southern California, in an unprecedented move, cancelled its Muslim valedictorian, Asna Tabassum, who minored in genocide studies, from delivering her address because of alleged threats from pro-Israeli groups.
They cited unspecified “security concerns”. I thought the idea was to never give in to what are clearly “terrorist” demands. To make matters worse, due to the fallout, in another unprecedented move, the university subsequently cancelled all other speakers and honorary doctorate presentations during convocation. Where are the “Je suis Asna” calls from liberal elites and institutions? Hundreds of students and faculty at Columbia, Yale and New York University have been arrested peacefully (in the words of the police chief) protesting against the killings by Israel.
Another 200 mostly Jewish protesters were arrested in front of Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer’s Brooklyn residence, where they gathered for the seder, a ritual that marks the second night of the Passover holiday celebrated as a festival of freedom by Jews worldwide. No free speech mobilisation by liberal elites anywhere to be seen.
Those who championed freedom of expression are now banning the keffiyeh, the traditional Palestinian headdress, because it is making some people uncomfortable.
Last week, the Ontario legislature banned the headdress, forcing a scheduled meeting between legislators and pro-Palestinian protesters to be held outside the legislative buildings because the activists had donned their keffiyehs. Israeli military dog tags, Israeli flags and other political symbols, of course, are not political in the same way.
The situation is no different in many European countries. Who thought that liberalism was so fragile and malleable by those who seek to subvert it for their own illiberal goals, namely promoting ethnic cleansing by the ethno-nationalist and racist state of Israel.
In the wake of the mass killings of the Second World War and the Holocaust, the new liberal world order enacted human rights treaties and enacted humanitarian laws to make sure that such massacres and abuses were "never again" repeated. Rising out of the horrors of the Second World War we saw the establishment of the United Nations and the drafting of the international bill of human rights that would obligate "every state to recognise the equal right of every individual on its territory to life, liberty and property, religious freedom and the use of his own language".
The bill consisted of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. We also saw the enactment of the Geneva Conventions of 1949, which sought to improve the legal protection of non-combatants, medical personnel, medical facilities and equipment, and wounded and sick civilians.
Despite these advances claimed by liberals, today we are witnessing war crimes, crimes against humanity and “plausible genocide”, according to the International Court of Justice, being live-streamed to our devices.
If liberalism cannot offer a moral and ethical form of governance, then what good is it? What are the grandiose declarations, pronouncements and treaties good for? In the midst of such an unprecedented attack on a corralled civilian population by a western colonial implant and ally, if liberalism shows no will, ability or desire to protect civilian life, regional security, a nation's own national interests and global order, then its mission-defining claims of principle and competence collapse.
Liberal intellectuals have long claimed the moral high ground by championing justice whether it be in favour or against western interests. Why is the Israeli situation different? When blind loyalty becomes the sole or primary consideration, then what makes liberalism different from tribalism? When global security and safety can be sacrificed at the altar of friendship and similarity, then what becomes of the West’s claim to authority as a political and military custodian of a rules-based international order? Might and dominance can be mistaken for right, but let's not forget that dissenting minorities, the oppressed and colonised may conclude that their only choice is to resist by any means necessary, and revolution is always a higher likelihood.
Even domestically, history has proven that societies that combine responsiveness to the will of their people with robust protections for individuals and minority groups are in the best position to strike a flexible and sustainable balance among these competing forces. We can only hope and pray (sorry are we still allowed to do that?) that this is some sort of glitch or malfunction, and liberal elites and intellectuals will wake up from their slumber and remind liberal politicians that the very raison d’etre of the liberal democratic project is under threat of collapse. It is almost too late, but there may be a sliver of hope.
How liberal elites respond to the Gaza challenge and salvage whatever shreds of credibility remain will dictate the legacy of liberalism.
Liberals must stand up for their principles or forever hang their heads in shame. ✍️ Faisal Kutty

Who would have Daeron I Targaryen "the Young Dragon" married?
Credits to @wweskywalker
I think that regarding to who would have become Daeron I's queen is very interesting.
Obviously, many (including myself) ship Daeron I x Daena, but at this moment that the Dragons had died the matter for the Targaryens was to still be at the top and keep their power, in order to survive Daeron would have to wed someone outside of his immediate family to gain more allies and power for the future Targaryens he would potentially sire.
Daeron I wanted to prove himself by conquering and bringing Dorne into the fold of Westeros and being known as the First Official King of the Seven Kingdoms.
We know he was allied with the many lords, such as the Tyrells one of whom he made Governor of Dorne, but his greatest allies were the Velaryons as they helped him greatly with the Conquest. The influence of House Velaryon was so great that when Alyn and Elaena got involved years later it was seen as a love story rather than adultery (also because Aegon IV had bigger scandals.)
In the case Daeron had lived and wed one day, he had to marry an extremely powerful and advantageous match for the benefit of the Targaryen dynasty, specially in that moment since they had conquered Dorne.
Chances are there were possible choices in The Vale as they had one of the greatest armies of Westeros, it could have been a maiden from House Arryn, Royce, Hunter, Borrell, Shett, Upcliff, etc. They all were powerful houses on their own and Daeron needed all the support he could get if his reign was to be successful, also they could have been highly trained to be an ideal queen consort and per alliance.
Other choice was marrying a Velaryon cousin, like Laena (Baela's daughter) or a Velaryon lady from another branch, in a way of showing the realm their Valyrian Exceptionalism still proved the strength of the Targaryens.
Other choice is that Daeron could have looked for an alliance with the Triarchy in fixing their relationship and wedding a woman with Valyrian heritage from there or a daughter of the Sealord of Braavos with Valyrian blood, doing both, keeping his Valyrian blood pure and getting an alliance.
Now, had Daeron noticed that a marriage between Baelor and Daena was pointless, he would have needed to arrange for Baelor to be a Septon and wed Daena to another ally, whether from The Vale or a son of Baela and Alyn or a Crownlands lord.
If Rhaena was convinced she needed to gain more power for the Targaryens, she would have been a scholar and fund charities convincing the smallfolk the gods loved the Targaryens and been wed to the Sealord of Braavos as we are told from semi-canon.

LA ABADESA (2024)
Synopsis
In the 9th century, Emma of Barcelona (c. 880-942), a 17-year-old girl, is named abbess in order to repopulate and Christianize border territories in 897. Upon arriving at the abbey, she will have to overcome the mistrust aroused by a woman determined to fulfill her mission, which will lead her to confront nobles, like her brother Count Guifré II Borrel of Barcelona (874-911), peasants and the nuns themselves. Despite everything, Emma will show that it is possible to challenge established power structures. Although she will pay a high price to get it...
Emma is willing to carry out the commission of her deceased noble father, Count Guifré I of Barcelona, Guifré el Pilós (840-897), founder of the House of Barcelona: convert the abbey that he founded in 885, the Monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses, for which she is now responsible into the engine of change and transformation of a society that comes down. She must help with all her resources to help the lands that are emptied due to hunger caused by border wars, which in turn are a consequence of the ambitions of the feudal lords of the area.
Emma acquired small or large properties with which the monastery came to have a territory equivalent to that of a county. Her sovereignty was also similar to that of a countess: by concession from her father, her domains were exempt from all interference from the neighboring counts, whom she knew how to oppose with resistance.

Dig a ditch is going a bit far, but the fact that Lord Burrell thinks it’s something to brag about is kind of a sign of how the Borrells, by nature of the location of their lands, are effectively closer to (still prosperous, let’s not go crazy here) smallfolk than they would be on the mainland. It’s almost a bit nouveau riche, in that he’s bragging about something that people of his class are supposed to know not to talk about.
It reminds me a bit of Lynesse Hightower being out of synch with Bear Island’s culture - I imagine that, in a fiefdom like Bear Island, being a good cook would be considered a good thing for a noblewoman, because getting skilled staff is difficult and good food makes a big difference on a stormy winter night, whereas the rules are different in Oldtown.

@mryoyo000 reblogged your post “I apologize if this is a question you've already...”
Thanks so much for this great answer! Generally speaking, I am more engaged with the main series ASOIAF than with the histories, but this whole backstory is really intriguing to me. I also wonder what Sansa and Serena’s religious upbringing and practice was like, if they worshipped both the Old Gods and the Seven or only one. My first guess is that, if they were part of the faith of the Seven (even alongside faith of the old gods), they might have felt that anyone contesting their claims to Winterfell would try to use that against them. I might be just really overthinking this, though.
On the contrary, I could very well see some of that speculation coming true. I don’t know how much Sansa and Serena officially worshipped the Faith of the Seven (the fact that Ned built the sept at Winterfell for Catelyn suggests to me that a sept did not exist at Winterfell prior to Ned’s time as lord), but even if they did not or they kept it in a more limited or unofficial way (or kept both faiths, as we see to varying degrees among Ned and Catelyn’s children), I could see where their faith or purported faith in the Seven might have been used against them as claimants to the leadership of House Stark. Compare, say, the rumors about Larra Rogare and her faith - specifically that after the future King Aegon IV’s birth “the city heard that his mother meant to have him blessed by her own gods as well, and rumors of obscene ceremonies in the Mermaid and blood sacrifice in Maegor’s Holdfast began to be heard on the streets of King’s Landing” - and I think there could well have been similar rumors about Rickon’s daughters. How hard would it have been to suggest that their mother, Jeyne Manderly, had smuggled in a septon to bless her daughters in the light of the Seven, and/or that she sought to raise her daughters to forsake the gods of their (Stark) ancestors for those of the (post-Andal) Manderlys - especially if Jeyne herself still worshiped the Seven (again, privately or unofficially or in any otherwise limited capacity)?
In what may well have been a tense and divided atmosphere within Winterfell, especially after Rickon’s death - with perhaps no certainty as to who should be the next ruler of Winterfell - any faction might have used any advantage against any other faction to gain political advantage. Consequently, any supporters of Cregan’s sons by Lynara succeeding ahead of Rickon’s daughters might have sought to craft a socio-politico-religious narrative against Jeyne and her children: the Manderlys were (to paraphrase Godric Borrell) no true northmen, Cregan Stark had erred in wedding this impious Manderly to his heir, she had proven the Manderlys were no good by only bearing daughters (compare, say, the complaints in Duskendale about Serala Darklyn, that if only Denys Darklyn had wed a Stokeworth or another local aristocrat the Defiance would never have happened), surely she was maliciously raising these daughters to reject the old gods and the very essence of House Stark, and of course that could not be allowed to happen. Just as I suspect there will be a mix of reasons brought up by the various interested factions against the claims of the Stark children converging on Winterfell, so I think it’s entirely possible a religious component was brought it to argue against the claims of Sansa and Serena Stark as heirs to Winterfell (a parallel which I think may be further explored in the for-now-called “The She-Wolves of Winterfell”).

location: on the three sister island, during a secret meeting with percy and jack banter length
@percival-templeton @jackarchibaldgrafton
axel's gaze fixated on the sketched blueprint of the borrell and torrent castle, each room meticulously marked to denote the sleeping arrangements of its inhabitants. "we were given these plans of the castle from a servant within the household." the lord commander said looking up at the small group of men gathered together here. one of his oldest friends, his cousin and two sworn knight he would entrust with his life.
"house torrent will be the more manageable target. it should be relatively straightforward to neutralize the men we need," he continued, gesturing toward the two knights who were to tackle that part of the mission. "the three of us will have to handle house borrell. expect more resistance heightened security, and assume they're on edge. we need to tread carefully."
