when I start talking about DRC, Palestine, feminism, how porn is rotting our generation’s brains, intersectional feminism, internally debating on kink culture, the place of religions in society, patriarchy and its effects on women, some men’s fantasies towards anything or anyone that reminds them of children and/or childlike aspects, the amount of violence on women and how people expect from us to accept it, and suddenly someone tells me "we" don’t care or "let people live-" like… just shut up already.

good morning, do you guys ever wake up thinking about how devastating it is to see demeter's grief misconstrued so heavily as petty anger? do you think about how difficult it would be for a mother to have her daughter ripped from her arms, and then know that never again would you have her back completely? do you think about how demeter had to find a way to make peace with knowing her daughter would spend half the year with her kidnapper? do you think about how cruel history and time have been to demeter?

📖The Color purple by Alice Walker.
A classic bildungsroman.
Adorned with yearning for sweet freedom, a testament of raw desires of the feminine heart, filled with fierce female characters- The Color Purple is a bold and one of a kind feminist novel.
Celie, our main protagonist, writes letters to God describing the major and sometimes minor events taking place in her life. Through her very first letter we learn how her stepfather "Pa" sexually, physically and verbally abuses her.
The sole person she was loved by while growing up was her younger sister Nettie. But to their dismay, their relationship was tore down by Celie's abusive husband Mr______.
After getting separated from Nettie, it was Shug Avery, a fashionable and fiercely independent singer, who brought a new dawn to the perpetual moonless nights of Celie.
Shug is the woman who shows Celie the path to self love and self discovery.
The letters are very sensitive and demonstrates vivid and heart wrenching descriptions of abuse.
Celie's feelings find crystal clear expression in her letters and she acts as a spokesperson for every single woman who are made to feel imprisoned in the cage of their own gender. For every Black woman whose color is seen as a curse.
Sofia is the first female character in the book who boldly forbids the men around her from treating her like an object, as an unequal. Her actions ans words-SHE SLAYS.
When Harpo, her husband, beats her for the first time, she doesn't give in. She fearlessly asserts in front of Celie "But I'll kill him dead before I let him beat me."
Nettie, oh I love her personality!
Educated unlike her sister, Nettie eagerly learns about Africa, about the "land for which our mothers and fathers cried-and lived and died-to see again."
After travelling to Africa as a Christian missionary, she leaves no stone unturned to help the people and educate them. To aid the women to live a dignified and equal life. Even after facing constant protests, tackling numerous hurdles, Nettie stays firm on her values and ideals.
The ending was so satisfying!
Celie conquers every battle that came her way.
Breaking her silence, she realised the might of her mortal wings with aid from Shug Avery, the woman she falls head over heels for.
She receives a love-so liberating, a home-she forever longed for, and freedom from every social and emotional barrier holding her back.
In the concluding letters to Nettie, Celie states how she feels "at peace with the world."
I'm so happy for my girls!
Not every book has the power to make the reader feel enraged and content at the same time. My soul needed this book. I'm so hopeful and content.
P.s: The book is written in southern dialect, which kinda made it an easy and fast paced read.
✨6/5 stars✨

It is fucking amazing how often I have to unfollow people for bodyshaming others related to their choice to shave or not. And the fascinating thing is that this judginess is ALWAYS aimed at women. Men who don't shave? Fine. Men who do shave? Also fine. It's their body, they can do what they like with it, right?
But as soon as we're talking about women, suddenly it's totally okay to prescribe what they ought to do about their OWN bodies. I never used to see this many "women shouldn't shave" posts here, and the recent uptick is concerning to me.
I understand that it's rooted in a pushback against patriarchal norms that pressure all women to remove their body hair. And I fully support that. But you've gotta understand that if you react to these norms by saying "women should all shave? actually no, women should NOT shave!" ...YOU'RE STILL BEING SEXIST. You're still saying that women "should" do something different with their bodies because YOU think they ought to.
It's absolutely wild to me how often internalized misogyny can be revealed by simply asking oneself "If the genders were switched, would I be saying this (in any context except as a joke)?" And if the answer is no, then... maybe don't say it.
Freedom is always more revolutionary. Letting people make their own choices is always more revolutionary. If you react to someone's attempt to enforce a certain standard by attempting to enforce the opposite standard instead, you are not on the side of freedom.
#i'm thinking of so many people when i make this post#i'm thinking of trans girls who are so excited to shave because it makes them feel happier in their bodies#i'm thinking of Black women who often have a different approach to “traditional femininity” than white women do#for reasons that are related to historical racism and are way too complex to get into here (and also none of my business cuz i'm white)#i'm thinking of neurospicy folks of all genders who can't handle the sensation of body hair (but only the women get shamed for removing it)#NONE of these people should have to justify or defend the choices they make about their own bodies#and none of them should be made to feel like a bad representative of their gender for something as trivial as hair removal decisions ffs#and i say this as someone who is fully hairy all over right now#(i can't handle the sensation of leg hair under leggings or trousers)#(so i have to keep my legs hairless in winter to avoid going insane)#(but right now it's summer and it's hot so i'm not wearing anything on my legs most days)#(and that means i can let the hair grow free and wild)#anyway please do not reblog this one i'm just venting#the lack of consistent thought... it's wild#mfs out here calling themselves 'feminists' and then in the same breath enforcing certain beauty standards on women#p.s. my apologies for the gender-binary language in this post#i was aware of it at every moment but this post is largely 'women vs. men' oriented so in the end i decided to leave it#definitely not meant to be exclusionary in any way#cosmo gyres#text#tag rant#i guess most of the people reblogging these 'women should never shave' posts are probably terfs anyway#so i suppose it makes a convenient block list. sigh

tw discussions of weight gain, body image and dieting under the cut
i'm literally just rambling but this is officially the heaviest i've ever been and even though i'm still within healthy limits i've noticed that my clothes are starting to fit differently and that i don't really like how i look in the majority of my clothes (tho weirdly i still like how i look naked lol it's just being clothed what's been bothering me). like my waist is not as noticeable as before and i hate that cause that's like the focal point of most of my outfits so yeah. and also lately i've been hating going out bc of this reason and the stress of having to pick an outfit that i feel comfortable in, and i feel like people are looking at my slowly disappearing jawline and chubbier cheeks when they see me from the side even though i KNOW rationally that no one cares and probably don't even think about it. also, it's winter here (southern hemisphere girlies where u at) and i know for a fact that i tend to gain some weight during the colder months as i do less outdoor activities and exercise and tend to crave more fatty foods and carbs, but i feel like it's never been to the point where i feel weird and clumsy in my body.
i'll try to cut down on sugar and heavily processed foods (i don't even enjoy them that much anyway and they tend to give me real bad stomachaches) and find a way to integrate a little bit of movement into my everyday routine (perhaps some stretching routine i can do in my bedroom). the only exercise i can tolerate is running, but bc i get home when it's already dark outside most days i don't feel safe running alone around my neighborhood, so i'll try to prioritize running on friday/weekends when i can go in the morning.

This year, we will not be ashamed of our intellect. We will not be scared of being seen as “nerds” or “boring”. I absolutely despise the narrative that in order to be “cool”, you need to be stupid. What is being cool anyways? Does being cool mean I dress well? Because I do. Does being cool mean you go out and party? Because I do. Does being cool mean having a group of friends? Because I do. I do ALL those things while remaining educated. Sure I love partying, but you know what else I love? Reading. And my interests should not be limited to boxes that idiotic individuals have placed out for me. Being smart is a superpower, never forget that.
