does having my horse descriptions stolen by a big horse twitter account mean i’ve made it big …

sigh … i got them to take these two down at least, but i had to call each one out individually to them for them to do it and they said it was just an accident that they were extremely similar and that a conscious effort had been made to NOT make them similar… i feel bad making like an actual “callout” since they took the posts down and said they felt bad but when i contacted them about it they only took one post down until i specifically asked them about another so they seemed to be trying to just get away with what they could...unsure

i'm not upset about the images because the purpose of the horseimagebarn (aside from funny descriptions) is to sort and archive horse images so people can find the exact kind of horse image they're looking for with ease...what bothers me (as i am not exactly "upset" as that's a bit intense, more just annoyed and disappointed) is the use of my descriptions

i surprisingly put a lot of effort into my posts so it sucks to see someone with one of the biggest horse image/meme accounts on twitter that i previously really enjoyed and looked up to all of a sudden start stealing my posts and even when they don’t, they use really similar tone and phrasing to mine which would be fine on its own but combined with the stealing it makes me feel very strange like someone is just trying to be me somewhere else and getting a lot more attention for it (attention is not why i do this, but it's just like an extra kick to the penis to see them have so much of it for my work!!)

p.s. to combat this i did make a horseimagebarn twitter just to repost screenshots of my posts as it feels wrong to be upset about plagiarism on a platform i am not on, and maybe if that account sees that i am active there they'll stop rewording my posts … so i’ll just be reposting my stuff there to hopefully prevent something like this from happening again :,) there won't be any new content on twitter as tumblr is my home and i care about it one horsillion times more so don't worry, this is literally just to repost my tumblr posts to discourage further plagiarism

Horses are not omnivorous and while they can eat meat this does not mean they should or that it is good for them. Anything is edible once

Horses have been changed wildly due to domestication and used to be much hardier smaller and stockier and more similar to ponies, which was much better for their natural environments. HUMANS gave them longer legs, larger bodies, etc. so a lot of their perceived health problems are because of human interference. I wrote an essay on horse evolution before that covers this a little more

Also horses' legs CAN support their weight. If they couldn't, they would just. Not be standing up. Ever. Or be able to run. Ever. Anyone who has ever been kicked by a horse knows their legs aren't weak. @lgbtlunaverse pointed out in the notes that the "problem" with horse legs isn't that they break often, but that when they do break, they're more likely to shatter instead of a clean break, which makes leg injuries much harder to heal and much more likely to be fatal, especially with how much horses rely on their legs for every part of their lives.

Rodents also need their teeth growth managed and we don't call them freaks of nature for it. Horses are grazers whose natural diets consist of coarse grasses that wear down their teeth. They have to continuously eat this their whole lives like all large grazers so of course they need to have good teeth for it. EDIT: Horses need their teeth filed or "floated" at an angle to prevent injury due to the structure of their jaws. However this does not mean that they are bad or improperly "made" because they evolved over thousands of years and this is not an "error" of a "creator" but a fact of horse existence. Similarly, us humans need to cut our nails at certain angles or else they can become sharp and scratch ourselves and this is not considered a fault of some creator but a fact of life. Living things need maintenance sometimes. thank you @apothe-osis for pointing this out

Similarly to this last point, because horses are meant for a life of continuous eating, their bodies are designed to be constantly processing their intended diet of grasses in order to keep up with their large body size and won't vomit because of that structure. Horse bodies are built for a different type of life than humans, and vomiting requires a lot of different parts of the body working as one, and horse bodies do not have the proper alignment of organs and reflexes to vomit. This is not a bad thing because typically in their natural environments horses should be eating only coarse grasses and don't have any reason to vomit or mistake something inedible or poisonous for grass. I have an immense fear of vomit so I won't go more into vomit science but yeah

SO MANY ANIMALS have skull shapes that give them better vision on their sides than their fronts. This is a common thing in prey animals because they need to be able to see all around them to look out for predators. It's very anthropocentric to berate them for having "bad sight" when they can see SO MUCH MORE than humans if we're just talking about field/range of vision. They only have a VERY SMALL blind spot in front of them, anyway, and can see most of what is in front of them using binocular vision, while they use monocular vision to see in a wide arc around their sides.

Humans ourselves only use AT MAX about 1/3 the oxygen we inhale, so this is a stupid argument. If horses weren't getting the proper oxygen they needed, they wouldn't be such good runners. You should NEVER be using ALL of the oxygen in your lungs...you should always have some extra, or else you're constantly gasping for breath to perfectly fill your lungs. Their hearts work perfectly with this amount of oxygen

This also misrepresents horse breathing. Horses breathe normally except at gallop, where their intestines don't "slosh back and forth," they move, because their bodies are DESIGNED TO RUN and that movement of their internal organs during gallop is caused by the movement of their abdominal muscles to push their body along. That movement allows them to breathe perfectly in time with each stride, preventing hyperventilating or messing up their breath. This allows them to run more perfectly than humans, who can get messed up in their breathing during sprint and sometimes have to practice/learn how to breathe properly during exertion!!!! Everyone's organs move when they do stuff...our organs and ribs move when we breathe too!

Horses receive enough grief as it is people need to stop spreading misinformation and misrepresenting the information that is out there when it comes to them. We transformed horses into our ideal working animal and now that they have no real purpose in many large modern societies we berate and ridicule them for even their most uncontrollable bodily functions? Why can we not simply accept them for what they are and admire the uniqueness of their biology instead of ridiculing them for it??? I don’t get it horses are beautiful and deserve love just like all living things. They do not exist to spite Mother Nature, they are one of her many children. I hate that people act like horses are some unholy monster when they’re just animals trying to live and at the end of the day so are we

horses have been made into the ideal worker over thousands of years of breeding and domestication and yet now are made to race to the point of exhaustion and injury and sometimes death to entertain the rich if they fail they are killed and if they succeed they are spared until they stop succeeding and then they are killed

even the most successful racehorses often end up beaten and starving in kill pens despite spending their lives earning millions of dollars for their stables their owners and thousands of sports betters

humans and horses are alike in our struggle under the boot of uncaring aristocracy

posting here because this just doesn’t feel right to talk about in the horseimagebarn voice but this is extremely important to talk about.

my partner and i have returned to our hometown to stay with her family and my own has gotten a hotel here too (they moved to the town we currently live in after we did) so we are all safe and out of the thick of it

however there are tens of thousands of people who are not both in my own town and in the many surrounding it. appalachia will take an extremely long time to recover from this and there are more storms on the way. all i see on social media right now is people asking for shelter because their homes have been destroyed, or people asking for help searching for family members who are missing. hundreds of trees have fallen. hundreds of homes have flooded. roads are literally falling apart. preexisting sinkholes due to shitty pipes are opening up and consuming land. dams are on the verge of bursting and the only way to stop it is to release water so quickly it floods whole towns. all but one of our cell towers are down, so only people with at&t have service and the rest can’t contact anyone. over half the town still doesn’t have power. a major water supply issue occurred and the entire town is on a water boil order with no electricity to boil with. people are trapped in their homes and workplaces or out on the street because they have nowhere to go. law enforcement is blocking off roads but trapping people in the process. people have to be rescued by helicopter. our animal shelter has no water or power and boarding facilities have been flooded. entire villages like chimney rock nc are gone, and entire cities like asheville are cut off from the rest of the state and are completely inaccessible. ALL OF THE ROADS IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA ARE CLOSED. 400+ roads are closed because they are unsafe . that is INSANE!!!

when people say that climate change isn’t real, they don’t know what they’re talking about. climate change and its father capitalism are only going to continue to worsen lives in every way possible. i live in the mountains and our infrastructure is completely unprepared to handle hurricanes and it’s only going to get worse. it’s such a strange and eye-opening experience to live something like this when you think that it could never happen to you because that type of weather shouldn’t reach you in your environment. climate change doesn’t care where you live. it’s real.

western north carolina and the rest of the southeast that has been hit by helene need help. more people need to be talking about this so that the government DOES SOMETHING because the government historically fucking hates appalachia and it still does!!! the major state institution near me took DAYS to respond despite being the only place in town with power and wifi connection because they had to wait for the state to approve their response—they could have allowed thousands of people to evacuate days prior to the hurricane hitting us but they didn’t do anything before or after until it was too late!!! it’s bullshit!!! PLEASE get talking about this because something has to be done. climate change is going to continue happening and our mountains and the people in them are going to suffer immensely. hundreds if not thousands are now homeless. please talk about this look at the footage online of the wreckage and look how quickly our infrastructure crumbled. we need better. the people of appalachia deserve better.

i’ll get back to posting horses soon. but for now this is a lot. my friends are homeless and my family had to get off the mountain or be trapped there without power and water for days. we’re all safe but exhausted. i hope everyone who has been affected by this is staying safe. if you are in western nc, dm me. when i come back, if you’re in my area, im happy to bring supplies. stay safe everyone

hello yes i am not pretending horses cannot or do not eat meat or skewing things because as i said anything can eat anything at least once but it doesn’t mean it is very good for it even if it can be in unique situations

i am not someone who exists around horses often so of course i do not know everything but i am always always willing to learn more and do further research and exploration as i am someone who is passionate about research and learning about science and biology and you yourself seem like someone who is also passionate about horses and their biology but in my research i did find many flaws in your corrections the biggest being that you say that the only reason horses do not eat meat is because they cannot hunt it and this is genuinely just completely false

Yes, herbivores can eat meat. This does not mean they should or that they do it “whenever they can.” It is not natural for horses to eat meat and it is usually caused by curiosity, lack of proper nutrition, or boredom.

Horses do not FREQUENTLY eat meat, but they can eat it if given the opportunity and the unique situation. However, this does not make horses omnivores, as they still are designed to eat plant matter as their almost entire source of food. Even when they do eat meat, they do not receive the nutrients they need to primarily survive off of meat or even off of a diet including any significant fraction of meat. When they do eat meat, it is only supplemental, so they are still obligate herbivores. Just because us humans can take iron supplements and get good things from it doesn’t mean it’s natural for us to consume iron in that way or eat larger quantities of iron. Horses can occasionally eat meat but cannot survive off of any reasonable amount of it and eating any sort of significant quantity of it is not good for them, just like eating any significant quantity of iron would not be good for us humans (I know this is not a perfect 1:1 comparison, but you get the idea). Their digestive systems are very sensitive but incredibly long, meaning they’re able to digest meat and will eat it out of boredom or curiosity, but the energy it takes to digest meat is not worth the nutrients they get out of it most of the time (if they are being fed properly). Domestic horses have extra energy saved from not having to survive in the wild that they can spend being bored or curious enough to kill a chicken and eat it, but that does not mean it is natural or meaningful to its diet, except in the case of a horse lacking nutrients like protein, salt, etc. Like I said in the first post, horse digestion is designed to continually process plant fiber throughout the day, as opposed to the spaced-out meals of carnivores, meaning their digestion is moving much faster in order to process their lighter yet much more continuous eating. This means that their digestion, even though it is able to process some amount of meat, moves too quickly to make eating meat worth it in the long run. Most of the times horses are found eating meat is when their environment lacks stimulation, salt, protein, etc. It’s typically humans’ faults that they don’t have access to their right diets while simultaneously having access to easily killable livestock like chickens. In the wild, where horses can freely roam to continuous quantities of their natural diet, they almost never need to eat meat. If they do, it is a very rare occurrence. Deer, while similar to horses in that they are large hoofed herbivores, are not the same as horses cognitively or biologically, so using deer as an example in this scenario is not a perfect justification of this behavior.

I will say that there IS one exception to this. The one meat it is safe for horses to eat is fish, which is funnily enough the one kind you likely wouldn’t find horses or most large herbivores having naturally trampled or scavenged (I know there’s going to be someone out there who has an anecdote of a horse catching a fish somehow so I won’t say it’s impossible, just much more unlikely than a horse successfully stomping a small rodent or bird to death in its pasture and then eating it). Some of the hardiest horse breeds hail from nordic countries that, back in the day, weren’t able to supply horses with their preferred diet of fiber rich plants when it got to winter time, so they instead gave them fish, whose makeup was much easier to digest. However, this is NOT the natural diet of a horse, and you’d almost never find a horse in the wild eating fish, partially due to a complete difference in habitat (water vs land), a lack of ability in horses to hunt fish, and mostly due to a wild horse having much easier ways to get those nutrients from its natural diet of plant matter.

And of course i do not think this is a negative trait, my entire post was against the idea of depicting any animal trait as negative because I think that is an incredibly bad faith thing to do when discussing biology because there is no good or bad when it comes to this kind of thing. Please don’t act like I acted like any of it was bad because that misses the entire point of my post. I just don’t like when people misrepresent horses
