"So you're really retiring, huh?"
You tried your best to hide the bitterness in your voice, but at the same time you wished he heard. You couldn't believe the rumours at first. John Wick? Retiring to have a normal life with some girl he met? That didn't sound like him, or maybe he did. You just couldn't accept it. You and John were merely colleagues. You had jobs together, took a bullet for each other, had a few flings here and there, but that was it. To call each other friends was a bit of a stretch. You're merely colleagues, that's what you say all the time. Yet, an unknown feeling you had been pushing at the pits of your gut threatened to spill out the day you found out about the impossible mission, and why he was doing it. So when he asked for your help, it took you a very long time to give him a yes, but you did.
So here you were drowning your ugly feelings with alcohol in your usual spot at the bar of The Continental. John was sitted across you, but his eyes were everywhere but you.
"You gotta be more careful now that you don't have me saving your ass." He mocked.
You rolled your eyes at him. "Very funny, John. I'm going to be perfectly fine without you."
He took a sip of his bourbon and glanced at you for the first time this night. "I know."

You woke up to the sound of your cellphone beeping. It had been five years. You rubbed your temple, stopping the upcoming headache your John Wick-plagued dreams usually come with, but was written on the text couldn't stop it no more.
