I don’t know if it’s a “normal” experience, but I get shifts of my hearttypes sometimes. Because of this, it’s often difficult for me to tell the difference between a hearttype and what is me.

For the most part, when I look at my hearttypes I get a sense of “that’s what I am”, but it’s pretty watered down. Also, if I try to picture myself as a hearttype, I end up identifying with a broader range of colours (like cat coat colours/patterns or horse colours) and body types (ex. pony vs “regular” horse vs draft horse).

An example of this would be the period of time where I thought that I was a hippocerf (a sort of deer-horse creature). I now know that I’m horse/deerhearted, but back then I just thought that I was both these things because I got shifts of them, so I must be them.

The issue with this was that when I tried to figure out what coat colour or shape I was, my self image kept flip-flopping. I eventually tried to pick the most “prominent” colour as that was “probably me”, but I still felt connected to a much wider range of colours than the one I picked.

Another factor that should have clued me in to it being a hearttype was that my shifts were infrequent and usually spurred on by watching stuff with horses or deer in it (rather than just being there, like with my gryphon or werecat-sides).

This is just something I’ve found neat about how I experience being otherhearted.

(Don’t take this as a way to tell whether or not you’re otherhearted or something else, it’s just my experience)

Side note: Maybe that’s what the river-creature feelings I’ve been getting are?

That teenager who spends all their time drawing wolves might be a wolf therian or werewolfkin

The person who only watches movies and shows about fantasy races might be fictionkin or otherkin

Or more likely there are hundreds of people whose interests don't match their alterhumanity!

Or even more likely, there are probably hundreds of people in the world who are alterhuman and have literally no idea!

You've probably met somebody who was alterhuman before, whether you knew or even if THEY knew it at the time.

I find it really interesting how most of my hearttypes are directly tied to my species in some way (ie. gryphonkin & birdhearted, werecat and cathearted), yet I- for some reason- am also horsehearted.

Thinking about it for too long gets confusing- mostly because I can clearly track the connections between my hearttypes and species, but being ungulate-hearted comes completely out of left field.

I just think it’s a neat little tidbit.

Side note: Because my hearttypes and species are so intertwined, they all have shared tags– except for my ungulate hearttype!

Beautiful art by my mate, I love horses with white faces like this, they're just so neat looking 💖 I've always felt so close to horses in general, even though I generally considered myself nature-hearted, some critters are definitely stronger than others, like horses!

im gonna ramble about her anyway . i was more than a horse girl . i kinda had this weird sort of thing where it probably wouldve been a kintype had i known about alterhuman stuff at the age of 5 . i identified as them rather than just sort of pretending to be one . essentially .

i was the same w cheetahs – i even got stuck in a tree when i was young and my mom had to come rescue me . it was the same situation .

im not any of these animals now – maybe im horsehearted but thats about it . i wanted to make shiloh a representation of what she wanted to be . what she wished she could've been.
