Quick Notes: Chapter 278
Let's go!
Hey, it's four candles like the Shining Stars!
Of course a chronophage is going to be summoned using the only thing more evil than them: the Internet.
You know, it's about time we got to see how B-Cubers got to remember the past Universes. At least Lavillia's...
It's crazy how many B-Cubers we've met throughout the series. I can't even roll my eyes at the references to Rave.
You know what else is crazy? We're basically a few chapters away from the series ending. What's Mashima going to do between now and then?
Okay, fights against the other Oracion Dos Galactica. It's crazy that we didn't see this coming.
See you!

I miss rwby so much I haven't felt the same amount of extreme emotion since I saw Ruby kill herself in front of her older sister who raised her and watched the fandom explode with angst material.

thinking about how we're introduced to yang in the yellow trailer. she's riding her motorcycle to a club, looking for someone (to get answers to a question she's been asking for years). her fighting style involves punching people (and monsters), she's fun-loving and more than anything, enjoys the thrill of a fight. not to mention she's incredibly protective of her hair.
and it pains that through all these years, she has lost, given up, or sacrificed parts of herself for someone else's sake.
she loses her right arm protecting blake. that happens in early-to-mid fall, winter comes and goes, and by the time the trees are lush and green again yang has not even given a thought to getting a prosthetic, let alone getting back to training. she has, to a point, given up on being a huntress. and when the time comes that she does get back into it and puts on her new prosthetic arm, she doesn't do it for herself when she's actually ready for it; she does it for ruby's sake.
then, yang gives up on her chance of getting answers for the question that has plagued her mind since she was a young child to be there for ruby. her bike ends up in a river in an effort to protect blake again.
and finally, she gives up her life to protect ruby, fully believing she was dead once she ended up in the ever after. piece by piece, yang keeps losing herself. her hair is literally the only thing she has not given up (and by gods am i terrified for her when ruby and blake kept describing her as someone with long, blonde hair) and all i need to ask is:
when is it enough? when does the moment come that yang puts herself first? does she really need to lose her hair too????

Still not sorry for RWBY on main btw
i straight up have not had a piece of media affect me like this in years. genuinely i think the last time i was this desperate for more story or transformative engagement was when homestuck was on the gigapause
it's reminding me of being 18 and so unapologetically into everything i loved. i didn't know how much i missed that feeling, and how overwhelming it would be to feel it again. i haven't been able to sit still for days

I don’t know how I’m going to handle Ruby and Jaune interacting again in any way because their friendship means so much to me
It’s just so clear how much they care about each other and how much they depended on each other through their journey. How connected they are with Beacon and with Cinder, with Penny and Pyrrha...
If they so much as speak to each other or even hug, I WILL cry

As someone who grew up on Rooster Teeth, who consumed so much of their content during my formative years, today's news hits a little harder. I'm so upset for the people who lost their jobs and livelihoods due to this huge downsizing on WB part (not to mention the fact most of them found out through a twitter post!) - it pains me to hear that some of their projects will never get a real conclusion or that the hard work they have been putting in for years might be forgotten.
I'm holding out hope that there will be some sort of archival process or maybe the RT website will remain live so that people can watch what is there (maybe no longer behind a paywall?).
That being said, RT was never a perfect company and to pretend that it was is doing a disservice to everyone who has been hurt by the decisions of their coworkers, the treatment of BIPOC by the audience, and toxic work environment that surrounded their productions. We should not use this time to discredit those experiences, but remain aware that these situations can coexist simultaneously.
For the cast/crew/production teams that have led these projects, I am hopeful that this will not be the last time we see them apart of content. I know most people are concerned about the state of RWBY, RVB, Gen: Lock, etc, and I do think these IP's will be picked up. If we're lucky, they will be along with the teams responsible for them in the first place. But I urge you to not use this time to talk about these shows, but instead send some comfort to those who are now out of a job.

I hope yall realize what an incredible loss RWBY will be if it doesn't get picked up.
Two of the main female characters are sapphic and in a relationship. Blake is canonically bisexual and a survivor of abuse. Yang is disabled and went through an entire arc about her ptsd and dealing with her trauma. Its also worth mentioning Blake is voiced by an openly bisexual woman.
the main character of the entire shows VA (lindsay jones) is gender queer and Ruby canonically neurodivergent, as well as aroace coded (she is not canonically confirmed to be aroace but she's widely considered to be at least ace)
It has one of the best written trans characters I've ever seen, voiced and written with the assistance of a trans woman.
The show openly shows other queer romances, with at one point a pair of married women being shown on screen with their baby, and yes the two characters had a real role in the plot.
While they haven't been amazing about poc rep before they are actively taking criticism and in recent years have learned how to write good poc rep.
RWBY, at its core, was an indie animation project. It was created by a small team of people on an incredibly small budget. Its gotten bigger and bigger over the years with a larger budget, RWBY is proof that an indie series can get massive, it is a massive win for indie animation all together.

A Fond Farewell
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Rooster Teeth beginning its draw down, an era has truly passed. The company has lasted more than two decades. 18 (soon 19) seasons, five mini-series, and cameos and references in Halo itself for Red vs Blue. 9 volumes alongside two movies, a chibi series, Ice Queendom, and its own games for RWBY. And so much more beyond that, RT Shorts, podcasts, Achievement Hunter, The Slow Mo Guys, and on and on. That’s a lot, especially for a little startup launching off a web series. I was listening to “This Isn’t Goodbye, It’s See You Later” by Richie Branson while I was making this little memorial post. It’s a song made for another Rooster Teeth show, Camp Camp, and I have to say it’s some very appropriate music for this moment.
The day the news dropped, I wrote up a little comment in response to Rooster Teeth beginning its closing down, and I thought I’d share some of it here. I grew up with Rooster Teeth, a bit of a cheesy line I know, but it’s true for a lot of us. I was just a little kid way back in the early 2000’s, a kid that liked Halo (a game I didn’t even own for a long time, but played at a friend’s house), and was just getting curious about what I could find about it on YouTube. And that brought me into the world of music videos and skits and montages made for that little game I liked.
From there, I discovered a small web series called Red vs. Blue. I’d sneak onto my folk’s computer to watch it since they didn’t appreciate the language, and in doing so I dipped my toes into the wide world of the internet for the first time. As I got older, I eventually hopped onto Reddit for its discussion threads of Rooster Teeth’s latest show, RWBY. I began my first in-depth fandom interactions, speculating about the show, enjoying the flood of fanart, even got into fanfics about RWBY (those fics have had their own amazing evolution alongside the show) and to this day it’s the fandom I’ve followed and bookmarked the most fics from. All the while I was making friends and bonding with people through the community this company and its shows have created.
Watching the shows and people grow over time was, looking back on it, just like watching myself grow. I was never really a social media/internet kind of guy, until it came to Rooster Teeth. The shows, shorts, podcasts, it all opened up a whole new world for me. It’s sad to see it coming to a close, and I hope it gets picked up in the future. But I’m happy, too, that it’s left so much behind, and had such an impact on me. It’s left me with so many good memories. Rooster Teeth, its shows, those that created and worked on it, and above all the community around it will always have a special place in my heart.
So, I bid a fond farewell to Rooster Teeth and its crew, and anyone who may drift away from the fandom in time. I wish you all the best.

Some very very sad news today, Rooster Teeth has officially closed its doors without warning to many including many people working at RT. It’s rough as now the fate of RWBY is currently in limbo with WB looking to sell the IP off along with the other popular IPs. Now it’s very likely RWBY will be picked up by someone at some point as it’s pretty profitable as a franchise, that’s not what I’m worried about. What worries me is RWBY getting the gen:LOCK treatment in which a new group of writers are tasked with continuing the story with no input from the original writers or creators. The last thing I want is another company trying to reinvent the wheel with RWBY to “revolutionize” or make it “more appealing”/“more profitable”. My hope is that the majority of the original cast is kept, most of CRWBY is retained, and that the only change made is the company attached to it. Ideally, I want a company that will allow them to continue their vision for RWBY with as little interference as possible.
Also, if you’re celebrating this because you think RT deserves it or because you think this will be the death blow to RWBY, kindly fuck off. People legitimately lost their jobs without warning, these animators worked tirelessly to deliver a show loved by many more and entertained people for over 10 years to continue the legacy and memory of Monty Oum. It’s really disgusting to see people take joy in this. Yes, RT was definitely a flawed company, in fact it did plenty of shitty things over the past 5-6 years, but even still I don’t think there’s a single person who deserves to lose their job and potentially livelihood because of it.
Now am I a little too optimistic? Maybe, but that’s just how I am. There’s definitely a chance we’ll never see another volume of RWBY again, but I think it’s better to cross that bridge when we get there instead of fixating on the doom and gloom.

Saphron: It was so good to see you again ,baby brother!
Saphron gave her brother a big hug, to which Jaune reciprocated in kind.
Terra: We all held out hope that you'd come back...even when some of the family gave up.
Jaune: I thank you for holding out for me, honest.
Saphron: So...what are you gonna do now?
Jaune: I... don't know...with Team RWBY forever trapped in the EverAfter...does Remnant even have a chance anymore?
Saphron: Nonsense, regardless of what happened back in that place, humanity will always have a fighting chance!
Jaune: Your belief in humanity is impeccable, sis.
Terra: Adrian, please sit still...
The toddler in question squirmed around in his mom's arms as if he were trying to move away. He began to start crying when he saw Jaune move close to him
Jaune tilted his head at the boy.
Saphron: Forgive him. He's just tired from the long flight to Vacuo.
Jaune: Oh, I could never be mad at him!
Terra: Hun, we should get going. The rest of the family is going to come soon, and they all want their moment of time with Jaune.
Saphron: Oh, alright, okay Jaune... please don't disappear into another dimension.
Jaune: I make no promises!
The brother and sister laughed before giving one more hug.
Saphron: Be ready, parents and the rest of our siblings are gonna tear you apart.
Jaune: Oh, don't worry... I'm quite curious to see them.
Saphron: Don't you mean 'happy' or 'nervous'?
Jaune: Oh yeah...
Saphron: Heh, alright, little brother.
Saphron picks up Adrian from her wife's arms and brings him closer to Jaune.
Saphron: Say goodbye to Uncle Jaune Adrian.
Jaune held out his arms to hug the child, but said child just became even fussier, and his cries became more vocal.
Terra: I'm sorry, Jaune. He must be really out of it if he doesn't wanna give his favorite uncle a hug.
Jaune: No worries *looks at Adrian* You're Uncle loves you, Adrian, never forget that.
That did nothing to quell the boy.
Jaune walked the three to the door.
Saphron: Have a good night, Jaune. Enjoy your meeting with the rest of the family.
Terra: Have a good night!
Jaune waved at them with a smile as he watched them walk away as he did, Adrian looked at him from Terra's shoulders, and Jaune stopped waving.
Adrain felt his lip tremble as he looked at his uncle.
Gone was the smile replaced by a long jagged chesire grin, his normal blue eyes, now shone a neon blue with a singular white pupil.
'Jaune' looked at Adrian and brought a finger to his lips, making a 'shhhhh' gesture.
Adrian could only look on in fear and cry as 'Jaune' disappeared from view.

Prompt (RWBY): Team RWBY are sent to detention with Glynda after another food fight. Unfortunately for them, Glynda has a new lesson she wants to give them, and she has the tool to do it.
Glynda was furious! The name, the reputation, and the prestige of Beacon Academy were being destroyed by a quartet of simple-minded ne'er-do-wells and their sloppy, stupid schoolyard antics. She had caught Team RWBY instigating another food fight at the mess hall and decided that she needed to set them right. If they wanted to behave like brainless little bimbos, then Glynda would make them brainless little bimbos.
The blonde disciplinarian stood before the four seated students. Her eyes drifted from face to face, gauging how much shame or guilt they felt as she glowered at Beacon's four biggest troublemakers. Ruby had guilt written all over her face, Yang seemed smugly defiant of her, Weiss retained her haughty, arrogant disposition, and Blake was more invested in whatever was on her scroll rather than her. Glynda tensed up before she slapped her riding crop down on Blake's desk. "Welcome to detention, girls, I hope you know why you're here." Glynda coldly stated as she towered over the four girls.
"B-because we had a food fight." Ruby meekly offered up. "But we had fun, you can't punish fun, right?"
"It wasn't even that bad, though. Do we really need to be in detention?" Yang probed as she flexed her arms a little. "Did someone just whine cuz they lost?"
Weiss just rolled her eyes. "Just tell us we need to write an essay or something. We promise not to do it again, " she remarked dismissively.
All the while, Blake kept her attention down and on her scroll, entirely ignoring her or the nature of her punishment. As if she was pointedly ignoring her.
Glynda only felt justified in her decision as she strutted to the blackboard and used her telekinetic powers to pick up some chalk. "Your punishment ends when I say it ends. Read the rules and understand that they are absolute." Glynda remarked as she pointed to the three rules written up on the board. Goodwitch's Rules 1. Twerk when twerked to! 2. No Eating *except me* 3. Obey the Boombox
"Eh? What kind of rules are those?" Yang asked as Glynda pulled a shimmering gold boombox onto the teacher's desk before her.
Glynda just smiled as she poured her aura into the golden device, bringing it to life. "Well, Miss Xiao Long... these will be the last set of rules the four of you will ever need." Goodwitch firmly instructed the blonde brawler as the thrumming baseline echoed through the classroom. The mature disciplinarian could feel the unique power of the boombox seep into her already as she stood in front of Team RWBY. "I hope you're all ready? Not a soul gets to leave until I approve of your twerking." Glynda's eyes flickered purple as she ripped her skirt clean off her body and began dancing. Her fat, round asscheeks slammed and crashed together as the boombox's music filled the classroom. ~Shake it, twerk it, clap it, break it~!
Glynda looked over her shoulders to see her students were beginning to feel the power of the boombox overwhelm them. A cruel smirk found its way onto her lips as she called out the four Huntresses. "Eyes front Ladies! Listen carefully, or you'll find yourselves crushed under the weight of detention." The mature witch joked as she walked backwards and practically started to bounce her ass against their faces.
The quartet didn't know what to say or what to think. The music was loud, piercing, and repetitive, slowly but surely replacing any thought they could have with its four simple commands. ~Shake it, twerk it, clap it, break it~! The four Huntresses soon found themselves dancing, making their asses bounce like Miss Goodwitch's, which they ogled with both reverence and envy. Ruby could only whimper as she made her ass bounce and ripple as hard and as fast as she could as Goodwitch slammed her ass directly onto the raven-haired reaper's face. I-it's in my head!! M-My ass~! I can't stop moving m-my ass~! Ruby thought as her eyes flickered and turned purple.
Yang shuddered as she felt herself cumming as her the bass rippled through her, making her ass and thighs swell until her pants exploded. "Hey~! I-I wanted ~thunder thighs~... B-b-but not like... a-ahhhhn... ~this~." The blonde fell into a deep squat and made her ass clap as pleasure flooded her mind, turning the powerful Huntress into a mewling, moaning mess as she twerked harder and harder.
~Shake it, twerk it, clap it, break it~!
Weiss wished she was as resilient as her fellow teammates. But she wasn't; even Glynda could see it. The moment she heard the aura-infused music, the Schnee heiress had lost complete and total control of herself. The dainty thing rushed forward and buried her face deep into Glynda's mature cunt as she twerked her little Atlesian heart out. C~Can't... stop~... Can never ~stop~... Weiss's thoughts were sluggish as she ravenously teased the headmistress, desperate for praise, desperate to be a good girl who follows the rules.
The only holdout was Blake, the faunus, who had her hands covering her ears, which only sparked a fire within Glynda. "Hands away from your hears this instant, Miss Belladonna!!" The mature blonde pulled Ruby out from between her growing asscheeks and quickly made Blake take her place. "You better learn to listen to me and focus if you ever want to grow as a Huntress." Glynda giggled at the blatant lie she was telling the cat-girl. Only to feel that Blake still had her ears covered. "Hrmmmph! Yang, please make Blake listen to reason." Glynda watched the climaxing blonde give a shuddering nod before she fell against Blake.
"N-no, Yang! Please, let go of my ea-~OooooOoooh!!!" Blake's plea collapsed into a lewd, mewling purr as the full force of the golden boombox hit Blake all at once. Causing the kitty to shred her clothes and nearly pass out from the intensity of her own storm of orgasms. Each one making her as dumb and as brainless as Weiss.
Glynda smiled at her four "students". "Now, you will report here every day for an hour so you can be properly equipped to handle life as a Huntress." Glynda gleefully lied to the four twerking, climaxing troublemakers. "Then I will send you on missions to the dorm rooms all over the school to help the other teams prepare to take on Grimm. Then every afternoon, I want you in this classroom, practising with me." The disciplinarian felt smug as she had planned to use her four most troublesome students as part of the free use fuckdoll rollout to incentivise Huntsmen to go on more missions.
"Y~yes mistress~!" Team RWBY squealed in unison as all four came, gushing and squirting over each other before passing out from exhaustion and extreme bliss. Glynda smiled as she turned the boombox off and confidently leered at the four transformed bimbos with a depraved hunger.
"I think I should get the first round, after all... I made you, why shouldn't I get to take all four of you for a test drive." The disciplinarian darkly chuckled to herself.

RWBY Evermorrow Ep.7 Director's Commentary (or something)
Tumblr media
The newscast segment was a late addition, we decided it was best to move a scene to a later episode for a better sense of narrative. I even already animated that whole scene so we don't need to worry about it!
We were gonna use Lisa Lavender here, but decided it was better to use Cyril due to availability of existing cast members as the scene was kind of last minute. We see it as Cyril being the guy in the studio, and Lisa being the reporter in the field.
Khaki's prison number is funny if you can decipher it.
Tumblr media
Originally this episode was a big ol scene of RWBYCRDL recounting the mission to Oz and Glynda, then the punishments being dished out, but I was having such a dull time writing it that we decided it was best to cut the recap of the immediate previous episode and hope the teams' reactions did the work. I think it was for the best, a glorified recap episode seems like it would've been a waste of production; if it wasn't fun to write it wouldn't have been fun to watch.
Tumblr media
It was a good time to bring in Glynda as she's always been Beacon's voice of reason around Oz's more whimsical tendencies. She's to-the-point and will make no excuses, which sells the teams being reprimanded more. Plus the added questioning of what exactly Ozpin is saying to Cardin offscreen is an interesting question in the viewer's mind.
(Also our Ozpin VA was kinda unavailable but for a very good reason lol)
Tumblr media
Let's talk Dove. You've probably noticed he's very much the reasonable one on EM CRDL at this point, which is very intentional as going in I wanted to make them more interesting than Cardin and the Cardins. CRWBY once said Dove was the most skilled of CRDL, which is an interesting angle, and Doves are a symbol of peace which inspired me to make him the """nicer""" one, albeit a bit embittered by his lot in life. This episode has a montage of the moments in ep5-6 that really lay it all out that he's a little better than the others on his team, which is why Ruby vouched for him.
Tumblr media
There was going to be a decent focus on family in this episode, but eventually we whittled it down to just Russel's and Dove's. Being like "oh and here's a character's parent being funny and mad" worked twice, but three to eight times might have gotten old lmao
Why did I pick Bertilak for Russel's guardian? Green. Mohawk. Moody. Not a big Faunus fan.
Okay so that's only part of it. Russel has been consistently portrayed as a bit of a doormat in EM, following Cardin's orders or deferring to the next biggest fish if he's not around. His actions around Bertilak imply that the latter is the source of all that behaviour.
Tumblr media
Dove offers Ruby an "Olive Branch". I don't know if I can get more unsubtle than this.
Don't ship them they literally feel nothing about each other. That's canon.
Tumblr media
Why did I pick Shopkeep for Dove's grandpa? Closed eyes, and Shopkeep is everywhere. That's literally the joke.
Tumblr media
Pyke Rite from The Grimm Campaign.
Tumblr media
There were a few characters I really wanted to get involved sooner. Can you believe it took us till Ep7 for Ren or Nora to say anything? It felt good to have all of JNPR and OP(A)L fully animated in the same scene, and was fun to set up dynamics like Oscar being a fanboy, Alyx being a little shit and the two teams generally getting along.
In comparison to 6 this episode was a lot calmer and a lot more talk-y, but hopefully we managed to make it fun. The animators and VAs did amazing as always (the former has basically eclipsed my efforts at this point), and I'm looking forward to ep8 very much! Bigger and better!
If you have extra questions about this ep you can shoot me an ask, I'm always down to self-indulge lmao
