Revenant
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
Revenant (2023, South Korea)
Directors: Lee Jung Rim & Kim Jae Hong
Writer: Kim Eun Hee
Mini-review:
I finally got the chance to watch this, and it didn't disappoint at all. I love me a good horror thriller, a genre that's very in rare in the world of k-dramas, and this one ticks all the boxes for me. Sure, it's not super scary or anything, but it does know how to be creepy as hell. And while it was the central mystery that kept me hooked from beginning to end, I also appreciated the way they used individual "cases" to build up the main plot, especially during the first half. On top of that, the show is superbly acted, with Kim Tae Ri being particularly excellent in a sort of dual role. But really, I don't think I have a single complaint. Revenant is truly that good, and I will certainly add it to my favorite dramas list.
P.S. There is a lot of triggering content throughout its twelve episodes, so be careful with that and make sure to check warnings.

Kdramas i've watched this year
Some of these are older dramas but i'm a procrastinator
Black Knight (2023): Loved this one! I have watched it probably 5 times now. Kim Woobin kicking ass is all i need!
Under the Queen's Umbrella (2022): I didn't watch this when it aired (no idea why). I was worried that the plot would be overrun by romance but thankfully i was wrong. Loved Kim Hye-Soo's performance (i cried a little).
Island seasons 1 & 2 (2022-2023): Honestly i only started this one for Kim Nam-Gil. I loved the cast, but the flow of the plot was a little off (don't know how, i can't put a finger on it). Was positively suprised by Cha Eun-Woo's acting, i think he needs more roles like this! Hot villain alert no.1! Sung Joon as a bad guy is either a blessing or a curse. Cgi could have been better.
Taxi Driver season 2 (2023): Loved the first season so of course i had to watch the second one. Love Lee Je-Hoon. Love the main characters. Love the plot and the message of this drama. A masterpiece. Waiting for season 3.
Weak Hero Class 1 (2022): Only heard of this drama wayyy after it aired (thanks tiktok) and god does it deserve every award there is! I was a bit hesitant because Park Ji-Hoon was the main lead, but boy was i wrong because his talent got me speechless (weren't we all). I cried, i cheered, i shadowboxed, i cried a little more and in the end i called my therapist. Thankfully season 2 is coming.
Bloodhounds (2023): Woo Do-whan and Lee Sang-Yi in the same drama beating people up? Yes please! The plot wasn't mindblowing, but sometimes just simple ass kicking is enough. Bromance was bromancing. Park Sung-Woong with another great villain character.
Revenant (2023): After dropping Mr.Sunshine i wanted to see Kim Tae-ri in other dramas, so when this aired i gave it a go. Her range is phenomenal! I have only seen couple spookier dramas, so i made a mistake and watched this at night (slept with the lights on). The eerie vibes and plot twists were well made. Hong Kyung had great chemistry with Kim Tae-ri and his cop role was refreshing to see after his performance in Weak Hero Class (if you know you know).
Flower of Evil (2020): Okay, this is one of the dramas i procrastinated hard on. It's been sitting on my "have to watch" list since it aired and i'm the only one to blame (i hype up a drama in my mind, then don't want to watch it because now i'm afraid it doesn't go the way i think it does and then i get disappointed blaablaablaa). This year i finally got over myself and why. didn't. i. watch. it. sooner!!!! It is all i ever wanted in a kdrama. 1. serial killers 2. a psychopath (but is he really?) w/ an effed up childhood 3. mindgames 4. marriage problems (but has a lot of soft & cute scenes) 5. Lee Joon-Gi. Also as a plus (hot villain alert no.2) the bad guy is kindaa (i'm sane i swear). I would be lying if i didn't say that i found the wife slightly annoying (might be me, but she went too much back & forth and sometimes i had to take a breather while watching), but all in all this drama will be hard to top and i fell in love with Lee Joon-Gi.
Moving (2023): Honestly one of the best dramas of the year. I don't usually really go for plots that have a lot of romance in them (if you haven't noticed), but i found this one to be really well balanced and the romance scenes weren't "cringy". Although Bong-Seok and Hui-Soo were great and had great chemistry, i looooved the background stories of the parents. Park Hee-Soon also pops up as kind of a non-villain villain. I hope there is a season 2.
Song of the Bandits (2023): Kim Nam-Gil again. 1920s Korea and gunslingers... what more could i need? After Mr. Sunshine left me with a disappointment (this might be an unpopular opinion) i craved for a drama set around the same time period, but with a little less romance (i know, i am defective). I think dramas should explore this time period more, but i understand it might still be a touchy subject. The skills of the cast were obviously great, Kim Nam-Gil killed his role like always, but Lee Ho-Jung as Eon-Nyeon shined with her performance (i am now a new fan). Hot villain alert no.3! I have seen Lee Hyun-Wook in Remarriage & Desires and seeing him as a villain made me feel things. If there isn't a second season i will cry.
The Killing Vote (2023): A "serial killer" in a dog mask making the public vote on punishing criminals and everyone suspects each other? Cyber crime? Chemistry between two cops? Major hot villain (no.4)? Sign me up. I love when crime dramas make you question your people reading skills (i have the tism so i really got none) and have all kinds of theories flying around. I liked that even Kim Mu-Chan and Joo Hyun had obvious chemistry between them it didn't overshadow the main point of the plot. I liked Seo Young-Joo's delivery and i hope he gets more bigger roles. Kim Kwon.... why does the psychopath have to be hot? He also needs more bigger roles. !spoiler! Also Park Sung-Woong killing (heh) yet another morally grey character.
The Worst of Evil (2023): Okay, first of all i have to say... the wife ruined everything (some agree and some don't). We get another bromance duo of the year with Wi Ha-Joon and Ji Chang-Wook. Loved the crime organization infiltration plot, heavily despised the romance plot (sorry Bibi baby). I was constantly on the edge of my seat and the characters started to get so morally grey that in the end everyone needs group therapy. Action scenes were chefs kiss. A honorable mention goes for Lee Shin-Ki as Seo Jong-Ryul (or Chief Seo, knife guy, the man has many names) and Bibi for her performance as Lee Hae-Ryeon.
Evilive (2023): Heavily underrated. Kim Young-Kwang doing what he does best, playing a psychopath. This combined with a bromance plot with the one and only bromance master Shin Ha-Kyun? I'm sold. The dramas literal title "villain story" really sums up the plot. Sometimes you are not sure who to cheer for. Sometimes you are not really sure about your own sanity. But to be fair, so aren't the main characters.
Vigilante (2023): Love it. Currently re-watching it. Needs more attention. Needs more episodes. I'm in love with Nam Joo-Hyuk. The best crime drama of the year, the title is all i needed to hear. Beating up criminals in well made action scenes is my favorite genre. No romance. One sided bromance? Morally grey characters (am i repeating myself now?). Yoon Ji-Tae as a beefy cop and Lee Joon-Hyuk as a slightly insane admirer? If we don't get a season 2 i will start a riot.

What kdramas or cdramas do you have your eyes open for in 2025?
Ooooh, I love this ask!
Cdramas: I did this post recently which should sum it up
KDRAMAS
Can This Love Be Translated? - love the cast, love the set up!
Dear Bandit - sageuk about lady bandit and prince who swap souls. Nam Ji Hyun and Moon Sang Min. I am indifferent to the cast but the premise could be great (or terrible, but let's be optimistic.)
The First Night with the Duke - manhua soapy deliciousness
The Good Man - Lee Dong Wook as a mobster in love? Gimme.
Haesi's Shinru - not sure if it's still on but it's a sageuk with Ahn Bo Hyun.
The Haunted Palace - this sound kinda insane but I am so desperate for a period kdrama.
Hong Rang - sageuk, fakecest, angstttttt
Human from Today - gumihos for the win
Kiss Me For No Reason - adore both Ahn Eun Jin and Jang Ki Yong and the romance sounds choice.
Last Summer - romance with Lee Jae Wook. He's picked some awful projects but he's a great actor so here is hoping.
The Moon Flows in This River - "he is a mysterious person with a dark past but a strong will even in loneliness. His life is in solitude, but one day, he meets his heroine fatefully, and light begins to shine on his life. She has a bright and pure charm, and they seep into each other's lives and discover true love and hope."
Our Movie - aaaaangsty romantic melo with Namgoong Min? OH YES PLS
The Remarried Empress - sometimes I just want trashy makjang with A-list actors.
The Scandal of Chun Hwa - sexy sageuk romance, bring it on!
The Scent of Plum Flower - sageuk! I am desperate for a decent sageuk.
Serenade - not sure if it's still on but Yeo Jin Goo in a sageuk OH GOD PLSSSSS
Soulmate - Taecyeon in a Japanese x Korean BL coproduction? Yes pls.
The Tyrant's Chef - sageuk AND Park Sung Hoon as ML. Not a fan of Yoona but one of the few times I liked her in was in a sageuk (TKL) so here is hoping.
When Life Gives You Tangerines - Park Bo Gum and IU and this one sentence from the synopsis: "he doesn’t know how to act if Ae Sun cries or laughs, but he is a silent warrior who only loves Ae Sun from the very beginning and pours his all into loving her." AAAAAAAAA
When the Stars Gossip - If liking Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin in old school romance is basic, I will gladly be basic.
Wife of a 21st Century Prince - IU and Byeon Woo Seok in something that sounds like a Goong AU? Yes pls.

I think this is also worth sharing. Another interview with Woo Davi, our lovely Jooran. And I'm going to bold my favorite in this interview and input comments enclosed with '<>'🤭
Woo Davi on Jeongnyeon: "Subtle emotional scenes with Kim Taeri... I actually fell for her" [IS Interview]
"I felt a surge of emotions when the 'Twin Towers' stage ended."
Actress Woo Davi gained recognition through the tvN drama Jeongnyeon. She portrayed Jooran, a friend of the protagonist Jeongnyeon, bringing depth and dimension to the character while also charming audiences with her role as Guseulagi on the women’s national theater stage.
In a recent interview with Ilgan Sports, Woo Davi shared, "I felt sad after the final scene featuring the 'Twin Towers' stage in the last episode of Jeongnyeon. It felt like a farewell I wasn’t ready for, as though I was parting with Jeongnyeon. I’d never experienced such emotions in my life before. Everyone gave their all, and for me, it was a series of challenges." <same, davi, same.>
Jeongnyeon, based on a webtoon of the same name, is set in the post-Korean War 1950s and tells the story of Jeongnyeon (played by Kim Taeri), a girl with an extraordinary singing talent, and her journey in a women's national theater troupe. The drama premiered on October 12 with a 4.8% nationwide viewer rating (according to Nielsen Korea) and concluded on November 17 with a remarkable 16.5% rating.
Woo Davi played Hong Jooran, a trainee in the Maeran Theater Troupe who stood out as the only character to warmly support Jeongnyeon when others were envious of her genius. While the original webtoon depicted Jooran as simply Jeongnyeon’s friend, the drama expanded her role to significantly influence Jeongnyeon’s transformation. Woo Davi delivered a multi-faceted performance, portraying innocence in their friendship, the confusion of a young girl feeling subtle emotions for Jeongnyeon, and the eventual struggles of a woman swept up by the times. Her nuanced portrayal contributed to the drama being praised as a well-crafted piece. <thank you for recognizing 🥰>
During the interview, Woo Davi, who showed a personality more assertive than her character Jooran, expressed deep affection for her role. “Jooran is steadfast and kindhearted, always approaching others with an open mind. She boldly shares her thoughts, even with the genius Jeongnyeon and the distant Yeong-seo (played by Shin Ye-eun). Despite being 18 in the story, her ability to stay grounded in challenging circumstances was admirable,” she said. However, she added with a laugh, “In real life, I tend to say what’s on my mind right away because I don’t want to have regrets. Watching Jooran hesitate to admit her mistakes to Jeongnyeon made me think, ‘You should just say it!’” <i wonder if davi would've confessed to jeongnyeon aside from admitting her mistake trying to run away/refusing to admit her true feelings 🤭 because the way i interpreted jooran's action was it's because of her confused feelings for jeongnyeon and it scares her because maybe she couldn't understand it at first as to why she's having such feelings for her. so if davi happens to be in the same situation i wonder if she'd say to jeongnyeon right away: "i'm scared to be your partner because you make me feel things i've never felt before. my heart went crazy when we practiced and it got me confused idk if it's just acting or not anymore.">
Jeongnyeon centered on Jeongnyeon’s coming-of-age story, but the drama also focused on the dynamics between its characters, showcasing significant changes in their relationships. Woo Davi explained, “Jooran has many sides to her. She’s angelic at times and cold at others. I worked hard to portray these contrasts while maintaining her core identity.” Regarding the pivotal scene where Jooran witnesses Jeongnyeon losing her voice, Woo Davi shared, “I wanted to capture the subtle nuances in that moment.” In that scene, Jooran develops emotions that seem to transcend friendship while rehearsing the role of Gomigeol in Jamyeonggo opposite Jeongnyeon, played by Kim Taeri.
“There’s no doubt that Jooran felt something deeper than friendship for Jeongnyeon. Since both characters love the stage, it made sense for their emotions to intertwine with their Jamyeonggo roles. I read comments on that scene, and one said, ‘Who wouldn’t fall for Kim Taeri if she looks at you like that?’ and I completely agreed. (Laughs) Taeri’s gaze has a way of drawing you in. I actually fell for her in real life during that scene. The atmosphere on set was so intense that you could hear every breath, but Tae-ri unnie led the scene so naturally that acting in it wasn't so difficult. Unnie is so full of passion that I just had to follow her energy in every scene. I feel lucky and honored to have worked with her." <when davi said "i actually fell for her in real life" seems like taeri and davi have become the real versions of jeongnyeon and jooran 🤭 because it's that same scene where jooran's (dormant) feelings for jeongnyeon awakened, and that same scene also made davi fell in love with taeri. but without going beyond, davi's transparent admiration for taeri is so cute, and perhaps this already answers my question if davi happens to be jooran she had already confessed to jeongnyeon with how davi boldly declares that she fell in love with taeri during the same scene. and the last sentence really warms my heart "i feel lucky and honored to have worked with her". i'm so happy for woo davi for getting that role, giving her a chance of once in a lifetime to work with the actress she admires and really winning for she got to also be the love interest of kim taeri~~>
Woo Davi also captivated viewers with her role as Guseulagi in Jamyeonggo. Her princess-like appearance and aura immediately drew attention. The interplay between Jooran and Jeongnyeon, both portraying Guseulagi, added an extra layer of fun. Reflecting on her performance, Woo Davi said, “I was nervous watching the scene, but I was relieved to see nothing seemed off. Later, when I read viewers’ comments, they were so overwhelmingly positive that I joked about the company hiring people to write them. It was an honor to be associated with such kind words and to receive so much praise.” <you deserve all the praises because you did a splendid job, davi 🥰 both you and taeri. also, thank you for your hardwork and for bravely auditioning for jeongnyeon: the star is born despite it having a subtle gay theme (as a rookie actor it's really brave. but same with kim taeri, when she's also just starting, she bravely starred in the handmaiden which is more explicit). and i hope that you'll be more confident in your craft. but i understand the nervousness especially that scene screams *gay* because sadly s.korea isn't still so open. so for it to receive such positive comments is really a surprise and must be very rewarding. but it's great that they dared to air a drama with same-sex intimacy for general audiences even though the director had been cautious and have deleted some scenes (*the needed kissing scenes**gay fights*) that can really confirm jooran and jeongnyeon's feelings for each other.>
Like her fellow cast members, Woo Davi trained in women’s national theater techniques for a year before filming. She admitted, “At first, it felt so foreign and challenging that I was often discouraged, wondering if I’d ever improve. The process was also about accepting my own shortcomings and growing through them.”
Since her debut in the 2019 web drama Triple Some 2, Woo Davi has steadily built her career through supporting roles in various projects. Jeongnyeon marked a turning point in her career, firmly establishing her presence among viewers. “Even though the drama has ended, I’m still thinking about how I can showcase more diverse aspects of myself,” she shared. To her fans, she said, “Thank you for all the love you’ve shown. I promise to repay your support with even better performances.” <i'm looking forward. and if i'm going to be honest, i want more of davi and taeri gl series. and also, i don't think i'm ready yet to see davi be partnered up with a guy. though i know she already starred in a drama wherein, obviously, she's partnered up with a guy. i know i'm being petty. but it's the same with taeri. after watching the handmaiden, i found that it's hard for me to watch taeri being intimate and locking lips with a guy. *i think i have a heterophobic percentage lmao*)>

I know I need to calm the fuck down first but one word to describe episode 6: STRESS!!
📍I love seeing Hyun-woo and Hae-in having a...sort of second honeymoon in Germany but I couldn't really enjoy every scene because I'm stressing out at how fucking OBLIVIOUS the Hong family is like bitch y'all are surrounded by snakes and they're so complacent 😭😭😭 I mean it's not really their fault that there are opportunists who'd earn their trust first then slither their way to bite them in the ass, but I just find it ironic at how protective they are at their family business and wealth but they can't see through the REAL people who has every intention to bring them down.
📍Speaking of which, I have read a fan theory somewhere that Mo Seul-hee is the mom of Eun-seong and Da-hye. Could be, OR Grace could be Da-hye's mom considering how Grace acted towards her. But why are they so keen at bringing the Hong family down?
📍Maybe it's just me but I don't think Da-hye is that bad, I have a feeling that she'll eventually come to her senses and take Hyun-woo's side and expose Eun-seong and co.
📍My overthinker/delulu self thinks that Soo-cheol and Da-hye's baby is actually Hyun-woo and Hae-in's kid. I mean, it wasn't shown how they lost their baby...yet. So Hae-in either miscarried, or she gave birth to a still born child? But what if the child is actually alive and one of those evil bitches cooked up some shit to make it seem like Hyun-woo and Hae-in's baby died, and then that baby was registered as Soo-cheol and Da-hye's kid? I know it sounds insane, but we're only on episode 6 so more crazy shit could happen in the future episodes, you'll never know. But my normal self says I've watched too many Filipino dramas growing up (and yes, that shit happens a lot in Filo-dramas).
📍Speaking of that kid, another theory is...what if that kid is actually Eun-seong and Da-hye's? Soo-cheol is a dumbass, and again, those bitches could have manipulated that baby's DNA test result or something. Again, that's just me being an overthinker, also I hate my Filo-drama mindset.
📍Aunt Beom-ja being so concerned about Hae-in and her dad but I also appreciate the fact that she respected her niece's request to not tell anyone about her illness. I also hope that she'll be able to help Hyun-woo clear his name and uncover Seul-hee and gang's dirty little secret.
📍BUT Y'ALL KNOW WHO STRESSED THE SHIT OUT OF ME THIS EPISODE? BAEK FUCKING HYUN-WOO!!! I am so freaking annoyed that he didn't tell Hae-in about the divorce when he had the chance. He was probably worried at how Hae-in would react plus the latter was going through medical treatments so he probably didn't want to put too much stress on her, but Hae-in was bound to find out either way so...yeah I do get why he chose to keep the divorce to himself but he could have just told the truth and suck it up, and perhaps they could communicate better when it comes to issues like this.
📍One thing I noticed about Hyun-woo is that he's brave in so many ways but also a coward on one thing. I mean he talks with Hae-in about nice things and all, and he is his wife's confidante, but I don't think I've ever heard him talk the way Hae-in does, meaning he never had the balls to talk to his wife about the..."unpleasant" side of their marriage. Hae-in was able to talk to him about her illness, the last will and testament that her mom pressured her to write, and Hyun-woo didn't even think about bringing up the divorce papers.
Prior to episode 5, I really thought that Hae-in was the one who shut him out but it was actually the other way around. Wifey may seem cold and nonchalant but if there's one person she'd listen to, it's him. Perhaps he doesn't want to say something that would upset Hae-in but the point is...she's his wife, she's supposed to know what he thinks, how he feels about certain things, even the not-so-pleasant side of their relationship. I really hope that in the next episode or the episode after that he'll be able to communicate better.
📍Hae-in's mom is terrible af. Imagine blaming your own daughter for the death of your son. I mean she didn't deserve to lose a child, but it's unfair to put all the blame on Hae-in (like why?). It's not like she endangered herself on purpose, and she had the audacity to be upset when Hae-in did something nice to her in-laws? Like what is wrong with this woman? Why can't see realize her own mistakes?
📍I kind of teared up when Hae-in was telling Hyun-woo about the things the latter should do when she dies. She could die, and this show might give us a bittersweet ending but when that time comes I'd be really, really hurt. Also, Hae-in confessing that the only reason she wrote her will about Hyun-woo not getting anything should they divorce was so that she'll be allowed to marry him 😭 (just shows she fought hard for him and she'll do absolutely anything to be with him). God I hate her mom! And yes the epilogue was so cute, now we know that they have always been in-love with each other. But I guess...they need a time-out 🤷.
📍Hae-in called Hyun-woo "yeobo" 🥹🥹🥹

could you write a eunchae fic where reader just treats her like she's their little sister?
Cutie <3- Hong Eunchae
Eunchae x fem reader (not romantically)
You were in Le sserafim, you were the third oldest and one of the most popular members. You often went viral for ‘babying’ Eunchae or being Eunchae’s favourite unnie. Here are some clips:
Clip #1 🎥
You were playing the Fim game, where you had to collect fim’s and whoever had the most wins. You were walking around trying to look for Fims and saw Eunchae jumping on a trampoline not letting Sakura go, you laugh while Sakura says “Yah! Y/n help me” you giggle as Eunchae says “Unnie don’t help her she won’t give me fim” you hum and say “sorry Sakura unnie I can’t help you, you should just give Eunchae-ah fim”
Sakura looks at you in shock as she keeps getting bounced by the maknae. You laugh walking away.
You soon saw Eunchae walking around while you were talking to chaewon, you blink as she comes up to you and says “Unnie can you give me Fim? I don’t have a lot” you nod and blink opening your bag asking “how much Eunchae-ah?” She smiles and says “a lot unnie!”
At the end of the game you arrived back to the spot and everyone counted their Fim, Yunjin laughs at you pointing at your empty bag, she asks “How did you get none?” You blink and scratch the back of your neck saying “well-“ chaewon rolls her eyes and says “Yah! She gave all of hers to Eunchae” everyone turns their head to see the maknae with a big smile and a stack of Fims in front of her.
Clip #2 🎥
You were recording the Village watch episode and you were at the snack bar at the beginning, you sat in between Kazuha and Eunchae since Eunchae had asked you to sit next to her. Once the food had came you hum while they open it, you blink hearing Eunchae say “I want some ramyeon” you hum and pick up your chopsticks going to take some.
Yunjin says “are you eating that?” You shake your head and say “Eunchae-ah said she wanted it” Kazuha laughs at you as Chaewon says “Yah! Stop babying her!” You shrug and blink feeding her. She smiles and chews as you pat her cheek and Sakura says “your acting like she’s your little sister” you hum and say “she basically is”
Clip #3 🎥
You were doing a pool party with your members, Eunchae had come into the pool and you were playing with her before she says “oh.” You tilt your head and ask “what’s wrong Eun?” She says “I forgot to take my microphone off” chaewons head snaps up as she asks “are you kidding?” Eunchae shook her head as she gets out the pool taking it off and putting it down. Yunjin laughs and says “Yah! Director-nim is crying right now.
Eunchae kneels down saying “I’m so sorry.. I’ll pay for a new one” everyone was laughing, you hum and say “don’t worry Eunchae-ah I’ll pay for you” Sakura says “yah! You treat her too well.. she’s old enough to pay for her own stuff” you shrug and say “it’s fine”

2023 wrapped: kdrama edition!
taking a page from @dangermousie, here's a list of all the kdramas ive watched this year, in order from least liked to most liked! because i dont have a spotify wrap-up to share :'D
cdrama one here!
and i'll do a webtoon one too /o/
overall i didnt watch too many kdramas this year, and finished less. kind of a "meh" kdrama year for me overall (with 1-2 exceptions). with that in mind, full disclosure that i didnt love a ton of what i watched this year in kdramaland:
we barely knew ye: ones i dropped only a few eps in
sweet home 2. dropped after ep 2. direction it went in is v much not my thing, my fave surviving characters were either killed off or put on the bench, and im not that motivated to see what happens next. might jump back into the franchise if word-of-mouth on s3 is good, we'll see
moon in the day. first ep was actually great and i enjoyed it a lot!! but im not doing cancer storylines rn so that killed momentum. may try this one again later
king the land. watched the first ep. simply did not vibe.
death's game. ditto ^
black knight. i LOVE a good dystopian scifi. this was not that. i was really bored after the first ep and didnt bother with the rest
my dearest. i watched the first ep and liked it, but just wasnt in the mood/wasn't immediately hooked. i'm going to give this one another try when i hit the Angsty Sageuk craving again
dramas i watched at least half of
6. twinkling watermelon.
it's pretty wild to put what i believe is the current #1 show on mydramalist as my bottom pick for the year, especially since it's written by my favorite screenwriter, but here we are. this one is far from objectively the worst drama but it's here because it made me the most mad!! the female lead and second male leads were both off-putting and selfish to me, and the whole drama i was actively rooting for ryeoun's earnest and endearing male lead and shin eun soo's underwritten second female lead to escape and have mother/son adventures on their own away from the rest of everyone else
5. arthdal chronicles: sword of aramun.
sigh. i was a big believer/supporter of this season, even with all of the recasts. but despite a few moments of brilliance, it was overall a slog to watch and just kind of joyless. too much time spent on the ago tribe, too many nonsensical victories and deus ex machina coincidences, and the bag was very much fumbled with some of the characters (particularly saya, who was to me the most interesting character in s1 and you KNOW ljk could have rocked that ruthlessness). positive standouts were kim ok bin flawlessly scene-chewing as taealha and lee joon ki working what he was dealt
4. worst of evil.
adored this drama for the first 2/3rds! it was gritty, neo-noir that reminded me a lot of the old school hong kong crime films like infernal affairs. lots of style, great acting, messy and flawed characters. but the last arc/ending was a boring dud for me. still very much enjoyed the ride up to that point though!
3. perfect marriage revenge.
so! much!! fun!!! just. full commitment to making a show as gloriously makjang/soap operay as it could get and it was a blast watching because of it. made on pocket lint for a budget but it rocked what it had and a special shoutout to lee min young's absolutely fantastically camp evil stepmother. the excitement died down a little toward the end, but still a good time overall
2. the glory, part 2.
a satisfying ending to a really excellent first half. love that the female lead just got to execute revenge and there was no moral or sanctimonious hangups about it. enjoyed the way the ending was set up as "the adventure continues," and all in all this was a really solid and enjoyable dark drama! only thing that was kind of a bummer is that the time split between airing the first and second halves killed the momentum a little, but that's entirely netflix fuckery and not the fault of the show
moving
hands-down the best kdrama i watched this year, and possibly my favorite kdrama ever. i didnt plan to watch this one because im sick of superhero everything, but the cast got me wanting to at least try it and omg im glad i did. great acting from literally everyone, wild action scenes, and just beautiful characters and dynamics across every level. the family narratives are so, so good and the whole show is expertly grounded in the concept of planting seeds so your children can see flowers. please give this one a try if you're on the fence about it!
2023 kdramas that i plan to watch (but didnt get to yet!)
my lovely liar
a good day to be a dog
my perfect stranger
revenant
mask girl
bloodhounds
my demon
AWARDS
Favorite ship: juwon and jihee from moving absolutely destroyed me in the like 3 eps they were in, so they win this one. he's a gangster who gets the shit kicked out of him for a living and loves stories with happy endings. she's a weary but always brave sex worker (coded, but still) who decides to trust a lonely man crying in the street. i never thought a motion-sensor light could wreck me the way theirs did. "you have worth to me, and i have worth to you."
Favorite FL: song hye kyo's dong eun in the glory just barely edges out han hyo joo's mihyun in moving. song hye kyo needs to play, like, all the villains and anti-heroes ASAP because that's been the most fun ive had watching her. she took on a dark character and rocked it
Favorite ML: juwon from moving, definitely. to quote my older post:
Moving really said hi this is Juwon. he has scars from gunshots all down his arm. he opened a chicken restaurant. he’s a gangster. he loves pro wrestling because the good guys win. he tried to rip out his own galbladder to prove a point. he’s a proud girl dad. he is unkillable. he stands in the street and cries.
Favorite 2FL: lee min young's incredible, over the top, villainous camp queen lee jung hye from perfect marriage revenge was just so much fun to watch and she ate every single scene she was in. 10/10 would watch her throw lawn chairs in a ballgown all day
Favorite 2ML: i would die for bongseok from moving. precious sunshine child who deserves only the best
Best Cast: im a broken record, but moving. so many characters with such great depth given to them and this was truly an ensemble show A+++
Best WTF: yura eating her paternity results in perfect marriage revenge!!

Wedding Impossible
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
Wedding Impossible (2024, South Korea)
Director: Kwon Young Il
Writers: Oh Hye Won & Park Seul Ki (based on the webtoon by Song Jung Won)
Mini-review:
Well, this drama was entertaining, but nothing more. It was especially funny at the beginning, thanks to that sort of 'rivalry' between the leads. However, once they solved that and started moving into purely romantic territory, the story began to lose steam quickly. Tbh, I kept watching to the very end because of the sizzling chemistry between Jeon Jong Seo and Moon Sang Min. And I guess I wanted to see how in the world they were gonna clear up the mess created by the characters, which was pretty fascinating. I feel like the show would have been better if the director had put more thought into its style, cause the whole thing looked pretty cheap and bland. But still, Wedding Impossible is fun enough, and I can see fans of classic romcoms enjoying it a lot.
