your wood sculptures have me absolutely obsessed and i would love to take a crack at the medium, but i have NO idea where to start. Any tips youd be willing to share out?

i use a scroll saw and poplar wood (a little nicer to work with than pine but still affordable and easy to cut) and honestly i would recommend watching a lot of youtube videos! there are a lot of people out there making videos of their woodwork and explaining how to get different shapes and cuts done. a big thing with the scroll saw is it's hard to make tight turns, so rounded edges are way easier to create than sharp corners. invest in some good sandpaper and some replacement blades because you WILL break them, and be safe with regards to hand placement! i think that's about all the insight i've got, haha.

Friendlocke Violet Gijinkas (Part 1/7)

Since the edited episodes are starting to come out, I figured that bc of that and the fact that I've been keeping this in the back burner for a loooong while now, might as well complete all my friendlocke violet gijinkas!! Some are gonna stay the same while others are gonna have slight/ complete redesigns, so please keep that in mind!

LARK:

HUGE nerd. spent most of his time during the Uva Academy studying different kinds of pokemon as well as different fighting styles he can utilize once he is able to go out on his own journey with his very own trainer! Too bad that didn't really help in the long run...

His entire wardrobe consists of McDonald's related outfits. It's fucking insane. He even has some from long LONG ago that aren't available anywhere else.

The bubble pattern on his hair is able to move and change. Nobody knows how this is possible, not even Lark himself. All Lark knows is that his hair looks incredibly stylish!

Speaking of bubbles, he has the ability to blow bubbles whenever and wherever he pleases!

Often keeps himself extremely clean and gets upset if even a small speck of dirt gets on him, despite this he somehow smells like McDonald's food and axe body spray. Disgusting. He's so cool!

Even after death he still likes to hang around the other team members as a ghost, often getting to know the newer members as well as reuniting with the old ones. Sometimes they see him, sometimes they don't. It usually depends.

SARA:

Due to being a human in her past life, Sara is able to actually speak with the other humans in the pokemon world. However she usually doesn't due to it being seen as extremely weird and out of place. She did slip up once while talking in the presence of Arven, who thought it was the weed making him hear things.

Oinkologne are usually unable to do much with their hooves but Sara spent nights practicing how to knit with her new hooves and now she's able to do it flawlessly. I don't know how she managed to do that but go queen!

When first joining the team she'd often have the urge to eat her food related companions. It was a strange time for Sara, but she managed to overcome it.

When Peppy gets sick, she usually is the one who nurses him back to health. She was a human once so she often is able to figure out whatever sickness Peppy has and treat it properly. I suppose she's like a second mother to him.

The bag she carries with her is full of thread that she collected from various Tarountula she encountered on the journey, as well as little things she knits together in her spare time.

For the most part, Sara forgives... but NEVER forgets.

Pastey:

Before joining the team, Pastey was a nameless wanderer. He's been down every road in Paldea and knows almost the entire region (except for Area Zero) like the back of his hand.

He's gotten hurt pretty badly throughout the run (ie. the Mikey fight, the Atticus fight, and ESPECIALLY the final battle), however, he does not gain any (physical) scars from those fights. This is bc he's basically an axolotl, and axolotls are usually able to heal without scarring.

Pastey's "arms" are, to put it simply, mud prosthetics. More info here vvv

Pastey HAS met Mall Bingo once before the run, however, he doesn't recognize her. The only reason he does not recognize her is bc she wears glasses. (You know how people somehow aren't able to recognize Superman bc he wears glasses in his civilian attire even tho his face remains the same? It's basically like that lmao)

Unlike the lightbulbs he eats, the gasoline he drinks isn't really mandatory to his diet. Gasoline is like alcohol to him and he drinks it like an absolute CHAMP.

He goes fishing when there's nothing else to do or when he can't sleep at night. He doesn't do this bc he thinks it's fun or anything, only bc it's a "good time passer" or so he claims. Other members of the team will often sit with him and vent out anything that's troubling them at the moment, and Pastey is always there to listen to them.

And that's pretty much it. Next is Joe, Hannah Ü, and Mykyie!

In all honesty, I wanted this to be an experiment for a writing style that this post by @ofoceansandtombsanew somewhat inspired me to try out. Did I succeed? No, I mixed my prose writing style with my usual narration for fics and drabbles. And the end results seems more like prose dedicated to Sabo. Anyways, here ya'll go~

Falling for Sabo

Down the rabbit hole you go; just like naive little Alice.

Whatever mischief Mister Rabbit has; you surrender yourself to. It feels as though a string stained with crimson has bound your heart. The other end of it seems to be wherever the small creature goes. Its mystical top hat bouncing with each hop. And your voice of reason is drowned out by the pocketwatch's hypnotic ticking.

You fall and fall as though you're floating towards the heavens. The pitch black darkness that once threatens to swallow you whole fades into something entirely different. Silken strands of sunlight begin surround you. Like curtains, they enclose you within them— leaving you blind for anything else but the sight before you.

Eyes simply content to drink in the vast beauty of the picturesque scene. He wears Mister Rabbit's hat as thought he were it. His calm gaze bears upon you. You'd doom yourself for thinking him of a prince charming when his eyes hold a much darker abyss within them. The kind of abyss that you'd stare into in hopes that it will catch a glimpse of you in turn. And by the gods, were you willing to fall deeper into that darkness should it mean he'd continue to hold you in his arms.

Entranced and bewitched. That is what you were.

Honey and flowers roll off his tongue with each word he speaks. Such sweet words for the firm hold he has on you. His voice, what a delight to their ears compared to the howls of the winds from when you fell. The warmth of his embrace beckons you to find comfort from the biting cold within you.

The heeding clock on his pocket seems as though it were a buzzing hum. For what other noise could best the velvet dulcet of his voice? Perhaps it was the only tune you'd wish to hear should this be your demise. You hold your breath as though you'd sway death to delay a little longer should it be your last breath.

How could falling feel like reaching the precipice all at once?

His fingers have only been a phantom against your skin with his leathered gloves; and yet here you were a willing acolyte. The warmth of his proximity has you addicted like damned fool; craving more and more despite the knowledge it'll drive you mad. In his eyes, you have found the safety and danger of it all; the thrill of the forbidden is something you've been mersmerized by.

Oh, how captivated he is by the fact he has you where he wants you to be. With a single tug of his finger under your chin, you'd follow him to the ends of the world and beyond it. Just a whisper in your ear will have you obeying every command he utters. He knows of it all, and yet he simply chooses to hold you in his arms as the two of you descend down the gaping chasm.

And perhaps, beyond it all, you'll find a land full of wonders to adventure in by his side— or a harrowing end much more painful than death. But the glint in his eyes when he smiles has you beguiled that it will be worth it.

Thinking about my Outlands spinoff idea again and the black monsters (or “two-leggers” as everyone likes to call them) are EASILY the biggest threat to the Outlanders since they represent poaching and other illegal activities involving wildlife. So I thought I’d make a list of times the Outlanders (feat Makuu) had run-ins with them

Disaimer: TW for mentioned animal death and implied darker themes

- Chungu, Cheezi, Goioi, Tamka, and Nduli being kidnapped one by one to be sold to zoos. I’m not gonna go into TOO much detail about their time as prisoners since I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable, but let’s just say it’s not fun

- I will say that Cheezi goes absolutely APESHIT the minute one of their captors messes with Nduli. The rest are mad enough but Cheezi goes feral

- Jasiri, Janja, Reirei, Kiburi, and Sumu battling the same poachers who took their friends (and winning, courtesy of Sumu stinging them so everyone could get away)

- I know I said Sumu’s mom, Nge, was dead by that time, but I wanna give Sumu more of a happy ending. Instead, she’s miraculously alive as a wild caught pet used for scare. The most they did is clip her stinger off so she won’t kill anyone. It’s okay though cuz not only does Sumu help her escape, but he promises to hunt some food for her like a good son :)

- Njano and Hodari getting kidnapped to be a part of The Reptile Pet Trade

- As stated before, Makuu, Kiburi, Kenge, Shupavu, and Kinyonga distract/attack the poachers while Hodari and Njano make a run for it

- Hodari also helps other animals escape in the process :)

- While being trapped, Njano begins to suffer from zoonosis (it fortunately wears off the minute the cage is open but it still freaks Hodari out)

- Remember how I said that Kenge and Hodari teamed up to save Makuu and Kiburi once? I like to think the poachers are to blame for that. They don’t fight the monsters this time (as helping their croc friends is more important), but I like to think one of them makes eye contact with Kenge and Kenge manages to scare them off

- Kujivunia dies at the hands of the poachers. She knew they were bad news so she told Makuu (who was probably a teen at the time) to get Pua, but when they came back, it was too late

- Kiburi and Ucheshi end up fighting back to back to fend them off as part of their Trail to Udugu

- I have a feeling they would be the antagonists in “Kifamilia Means Family”. They’d see Chungu all alone and try to capture him in order to be given to a shitty zoo.

- I like to think Chungu would be oblivious at first, but throughout the story, he learns the dangers of the two-leggers and actively tries to avoid them while on his quest

- Bonus if, like Kion with the Season 3 villains, Chungu is the reason the poachers became a threat in the first place since he inadvertently leads them to the Outlands

Note: Rita did not know Grodie was their bio dad until a week before his debut nor did their bio mom. Dugded kept insisting on them to call Grodie "Papa" or "Daddy" after the reveal but Rita would rather eat rusty nails than do that. They only did so for undercover work and Himeno had to bring them a fck ton of cake bc the sweetness could offset the disgusting aftertaste.

Sparkstember Day 18: Balls (Bullet Train)

Sometimes (oftentimes) it's true that all you need are Balls. I personally absolutely love Balls. I'm a big fan! Ekhem. Today I'm using the help of (I mean, copying most of the passages from it) my earlier Balls rant that I have written down after my first listen of it back in January. I really love this album and I don't want to completely skip over saying a couple words on it at least but I really don't think I have the headspace to write anything very good for it today. I'll still try though!

So yeah, Balls. It's a great album, fun and chill (in my sense of what I call and consider chill anyway), consistent, as Sparks albums tend to be, and as I suspected / hoped it does fit this specific vibe of driving around at night somewhere city-like and illuminated. Or being on a train deep at night and looking at the world zooming by (if you'd even see much of it on a train at night anyway.....). And I do think that it's not so dissimilar to Gratsax (I'd say now that it's definitely darker and moodier than its predecessor...). So it's interesting to think about how it's considered to be one of the "weak" ones (by music reviewers at least) while Gratsax is so beloved in comparision.

I will admit, I don't really know what the big problem with this album could be. As I said, it's fun, it has the melodies, it has the energy, it has the theatricality (I like seeing how more and more orchestral instruments such as strings are being incorporated into the music, in a way the jump into Lil' Beethoven two years later doesn't come of as THAT much of a shock because of this. The evolution of sound here is fascinating!) I really like the intense beats, just as much as the more laid-back and moodier pieces. And there's lots of gold to be found in the lyrics department as always.

One more thing I wanna say is that at some point I wondered if this music sounds older than it is. Maybe it does? But then I remembered that this was 2000 and honestly when I think about it, there just IS something about this album that fits so well with the Y2K image and vibe and all. Sparks 2000 and all that.

Balls: I mean. It's Balls.

Scheherazade: absolutely LOVE this one and I had the strangest impression of it sounding very familiar when I first heard it. Months later I found out that it was just briefly featured in TSB so I think that explains it (I will talk more about my TSB viewings on TSB day. EVERYTHING has to be explained in excruciating detail, lmao)

The Calm Before The Storm: bugsonas 4ever. Song itself is amazing too

How To Get Your Ass Kicked: how can a song about getting your ass kicked be so pleasant and relaxing, it always keeps cracking me up, how perfect that is actually

Bullet Train: I love it how introducing the topic of the song with a "It's the [topic of the song]" is a reoccurring theme on this album. Thank you Sparks for this ode to technology and art (these lyrics always have me giggling). And also it just goes hard as heck

It's Educational: a perfect fusion of / sequel to I Thought I Told You To Wait In The Car and Progress (it's mostly the vocal delivery that reminds me of the latter)

The Angels: such an odd one here but I still like it a lot, I apparently said that it sounds "surprisingly mainstream for Sparks but somehow in a positive way". It's very sweet and I absolutely love how Russell sings here, it's so different from what we're used to but that only makes it hit you even more in the feels, lol. And I actually prefer the alternative version of this song that's featured as a bonus track, and I do think that's in big part because you can hear Russell better on it (or that was my first impression of it at least and it kind of stuck)
