I gave myself a writing challenge and I am fascinated by it

So basically I put the robins in a randomizer to give them a new order/role (because I just...kinda wanted to see what would happen + I like role-reversal AUs) and got results that are giving me a fucking brain blast.

Stephanie, the first sidekick who defines the role

Tim, the sidekick who dies and comes back wrong

Dick, the sidekick who saves Batman from himself

Damian, the sidekick who was never supposed to be a sidekick but would go on to prove everyone wrong

Jason, the youngest sidekick who is still the Kid Wonder

...So this is fucking wild. I've got some ideas and several of these fit perfectly (Dick's role is pretty similar to his one in canon), but some of these are fucking INCREDIBLE to explore (Steph being the first Robin is something I never even considered but tbh I kinda love it).

I probably won't write a fic or anything because tbh I don't like publishing my writing that much, but I might expand this into a full AU and post about it. Sorry it's been a while since I've posted any art, the heat has been killing my art drive, and I got busy with a convention. But here's what I have so far for Sandstorm! Out of all my characters I've drawn, she's definitely gone through the most significant design changes. I think the funniest part is before I got the idea of having cross breed pokemon show the father's traits, she was just a normal eevee. Then she ended up being a giant eevee. Then I decided to give a reason for that since she's literally double the size of a normal eevee and it's hard to chalk it up to 'normal size variations' and have it believable 🤣

For now her father is a secret, as it is a HUGE part of her backstory. And since Eevee are genetically unstable, i decided that would have an effect on how traits are passed down. I can't wait to see what people try to guess 👀

so one of the things that annoys me endlessly is this phenomenon where, when I say I like something, people assume that means I want more of it, a different version of it, add-ons and bells and whistles, and i'm just like

no, when I say I like tea, I mean I like tea. Not herbal tisanes, not "tea with--", no milk, no sugar, no fruit, no frills, just good-quality tea in a range of fermentations and colours.

when I say I like a hot bath, I mean the bath. Not bubble-bath, not bath oils and foams and salves and unguents, not candlelight and music and a zen space to sensually relax with a book and a glass of wine, just a hot bath in a normally-lit bathroom where I can unwind and get clean.

when I say I like beer, I mean I like beer. Not fruit-flavoured, not with a special something-something added, for the love of GOD not sweetie-flavoured, just a well-brewed ale or stout in a simple pint glass, in good company.

and that isn't because there's anything WRONG with the add-ons! these are not bad things! I know that for some people, a tea advent calendar with different herbal blends, or a luxurious foamy scented bath with candles and music, is what they mean by "I like tea" and "I like baths". but it would just be nice if when I asked for a green tea, people didn't assume I mean "with..."

Drabble # 1 — post young avengers present #6

He doesn’t stop running until he’s miles away from the building on the Upper East Side. Away from the trouble he could get into for breaking into the temporary Avengers Tower. And away from Kate Bishop.

And it's only when he stops that he starts to actually think about what he did. And realize just how much of a jerk he’d been.

“Well, but you are a jerk, aren’t you, Tommy?” he muttered to himself, shaking his head angrily.

Yeah, most of the time, to most people. But he’d never gone so far as to abandon someone, to leave a friend behind in a moment of trouble. He thought he wasn’t like that. But… well, maybe he’d been wrong.

“Then again…” he tried to argue with himself, forcing a small smile that quickly faded. “We were only there because she wanted her bow back. If she hadn’t talked about it…”

He stopped, closing his eyes tightly before rubbing a hand over his face. That was a lousy excuse, and he knew it. From the start, this whole thing was his idea. Because he had second intentions, of course. He wanted to hook up with her, and the quickest way to do that was to please her, right? Also, committing a little crime didn't seem a bad idea at that point. It was exciting. 

So he’d convinced her and brought her there, thinking he was helping her, that she deserved her equipment back—that it was unfair it had been taken from her, and he could help her get it. But then… the Avengers showed up, and he kida panicked.

He hadn’t expected that. He hadn’t planned on anything other than sneaking in and getting the gear without being noticed. He didn't plan that far ahead nor did he had a plan for if they get caught. Because that wasn't supposed to happen.

"She did said go—" He reminded himself, only to add. "but was she talking about going home or for you to get out of there?" He didn't know for sure, and he didn't stay to find out.

Because he just ran. Without thinking twice. Without doing something to get Kate out of there too. He just listen the aproaching avengers, and the word go and he just ran, without thinking much about her. He left her to her own devices in a split second.

They went in there together, but he left alone.

He escaped like a jerk. Like a coward. He was well aware of that now. But now was too late.

"Which is ironic, because you could have had all the time in the world to think about it, but you didn't."

But what else could he have done? He couldn’t risk getting caught and thrown back in juvie, even though this whole mess was his idea. And if anyone had to take the blame for this little silly heist, he figured Kate would get off easier than he would. Maybe that was her plan all along? Cover for him? Even after everything? The older Avengers actually liked her, right? They wouldn't go too hard on her.

“You’re a damn idiot,” he muttered to himself. “There was plenty you could’ve done, don’t lie to yourself. You could’ve taken her out of there with you. But you didn’t, because you’re a damn idiot who only thinks about yourself. What a joke of a hero.”

He leaned against the wall of the alley where he’d ended up, cursing himself.

In the past, this wouldn’t have bothered him at all. He wouldn't spend a second thinking about what had just happened. He’d gotten himself out—what else mattered? But now… things were different. He was feeling guilty. Because he knew he’d put Kate in trouble. And Kate… well, he really liked Kate. For real. Not only because she was the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen. She was just great in every way too. She was a teammate, his partner, and the funniest, most badass girl he’d ever met.

He knew he might have blown any chance he’d ever had with her because of this. But he hoped, deep down, he hadn’t ruined his chances of being her friend moving forward. Besides Billy, Kate was the only one who actually seemed to enjoy his presence in the Young Avengers, and they were a solid team together. He couldn't stand the idea of having broken her trust.

And this was a new kind of pain that he never felt before. He hated it.

He sighed, feeling defeated. "Ok Tommy, think about it." He told himself. "What can you do?"

Right now, he had three options: he could go back, but he knew that was a terrible idea. The Avengers would still be there, and it would only turn things into an even bigger mess, no matter how fast he was.

The second option was to wait a bit, then head over to Kate’s place and apologize. See if she was okay. But Tommy knew that was an even worse idea. She’d be probably furious with him, and rightfully so, and he’d probably get a punch in the face or an arrow to dodge (which he knew he deserved).

The last and best option was to go home and try to fix this mess tomorrow, that is, if Kate even wanted to talk to him after that. She probably wouldn't, and he couldn’t blame her for that. That was on him, and as much as he hated to admit, he knew fixing it would take time, It would be slow, but he’d have to try.

He was willing to do whatever it took to make it up to her.

Okay, so, real talk, I did not actually like everything in this book, but I still fucked with it SO HARD. Like, honestly, I picked up what this was putting down (a little heavy-handedly, but done so well imho???) and the WAY IT WAS WRITTEN????

Like, I did a course on the Aeneid. And obviously it was a Roman mythos, not Greek, but DAMN, CLAIRE NORTH. I could see my translations!!! Written in the vernacular of english!!! RiGHT THERE IN THE TEXXT!!!! I GOT SO FREAKING EXCITED!!! It's just, such little things. The phrasing of a certain line. The odd usage of certain similes or metaphors that go off about people or places. The strange diversions to explain events or people right in the middle of the text before jumping straight back into the story. IT WAS SO VERGIL GUYS I SWEAR.

(i haven't had to translate the greek myths sorry guys and I read the odyssey so many years ago in english many apologies am working off what I got)

And, like, as I said, it was very heavy-handed as it backhanded the greek poets for ignoring the women but, like, she was right??? It was insane guys. It was absolutely insane. And everyone was so nuanced and had personalities and hopes and dreams and backstories and at points I was worried she was going to sacrifice the guys to further the women??? Which, like, I understand the irony, and obv couldn't super fault her for it, but she ended up balancing everyone out so well??? Like the guys were in the background instead but they were still all unique and had different priorities and shit.

Just, this whole book was such a breath of fresh air. Damn.

oh. today i got to see the motorcycle i'm gonna be buying and i'm already getting really exited (if i don't seem like it is cause i've been perpetually tired for the last two weeks)

it's a honda cbf250, it looks close enough to the aesthetic i like, it's pretty and also a bit rugged —which adds character— and i generally like vibed with it for the few minutes i got to see and get on it. and it's —from what i've read and heard— a pretty reliable machine, so i'm happy about that too. and i'm getting a pretty good price for it

gotta get the licence first, but i'm not too worried about that part cause i've been on roads with bikes, e-scooters and longboards since i was like 5

but i'm really, really exited about the freedom a motorcycle will bring. i'm already planning mini-roadtrips :)
