So the stars aligned, and I hit 10k followers on exactly my 365th day of this blog existing, sometimes while I was sleeping. I'd like to say I don't care about the follower count, and its stupid and vain, but..... Idk. Tumblr has been great for me, and I have to say that honestly.

I was already planning on starting HRT when I joined tumblr, so I'm not gonna say that Tumblr transed my gender or cracked my egg.

But tumblr did let me decide on, and test, my name.

Tumblr turned social transition from an insurmountable barrier in my mind, to something that I'm actively planning to do over the next few weeks to months.

Tumblr did give me the confidence and the fire to openly love myself and my body, and not feel like it was guilty, indulgent vanity. Or more accurately, make me feel like indulgent vanity wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

Maybe I don't care about 10k followers (well, something about the "neatness" of exactly 10k in exactly 1 year appeals to me), but having a community online that I can freely and regularly interact with has been incredible in so many ways, and maybe 10k is as good a time as any to say it. So thank you.

but yeah I really really hc Steve as being super high masking, very capable socially, very able to read people. he's used so much of his life to think about others and be what's best in any possible situation. he always wants to be perfect in his interactions with people, wants to 'win' at it. wants to be the best version of himself for every person that he meets. and he mostly does. he's good at it, he's smart and a lot of people follow the same sort of conversions, expect similar things. he’s been around enough people and been in enough situations to have scripts and reactions to most scenarios. he can recognise patterns well and so he does that, but with people, over and over and over. so much so that he doesn't even think about it now, doesn't really even realise what he doing.

he’s very capable, very good and smart socially, but it's to his detriment. it means no one really knows him. it means he doesn't really know himself.

it's like he's a little perfect puppet and when he's alone it feels like this freak monster comes out; with all these feelings and thoughts and emotions that he doesn't know what to do with, doesn't know if they're normal. and he doesn't know how to tell anyone about it either, how to express it or talk about in the right way.

because he's so so scared of being made fun of, or being alone; of being told off, or being weird. and sometimes it makes him so sad, because he doesn't always know how to stop - he's so quick to respond wth his scripts that he forgets to think about what he really thinks, really feels. and he can't stop.

definitely not too much, anon! i actually think i've read at least one fic that was similar to this, at least with the first half - stan and ford both presenting at home, stan going into heat, ford helping - which was a delight!

i'll be honest, the pregnancy bit doesn't typically do it for me (not a squick exactly, just not really my thing!). BUT. i will say that i do really love thinking about how things may have changed on stan's end if he had gotten kicked out and realized he was pregant. i think in that situation, it would be a BIG deal if he decided to even see that shit through (and idk maybe he seriously considers not, but finding out it's twins??? that's harder and worse in most ways but it also makes it harder to terminate).

but if stan did end up pregnant and he did keep them? i think it's WAY more likely that stan would have established more stability in his life a lot faster. by himself, he's wrapped up in a lot of the anger, the get-rich-quick mentality, the 'i don't need anyone' and the self loathing that leads to self sabotage and putting himself in dicey situations.

but with kids to look out for??? fuck that. sure there's still a lot of "fuck i can't do this, they'd be better off with someone else," and he's definitely still hurt and angry, angrier in some ways even. but i think he'd be more willing to accept help when it's offered (i could see him running a "poor pregnant omega" racket, which isn't really a racket but that's how he'd see it, for sympathy and cash, but accidentally attracting some sincerely concerned good samaritans). it'd be easier to settle for "good enough," cause if he can't prove his family wrong by getting rich, at least he can prove that he's a better fucking parent.

and honestly i say all that specifically to set up (and i'm sorry cause i think this might be a sharp left from where you were going with this anon) that i think it would be SO much more interesting if, when stan gets the ask from ford, he's already settled in with someone else (my jimmy snakes affection rears its head again here) and actually doing...pretty well, all things considered. it puts him and ford in two VERY different places - life-wise and their perspectives of the relationship they'd had - and further complicates an already sticky stituation.

If there’s one thing you fucking hate, it’s being the butt of a joke you don’t get.

Sure, Val, Rudy and Ale teased you, hell they grilled you for almost 30 minutes straight to tell them who had the worst accent. (It’s definitely Rudy but you didn’t wanna hurt his feelings so you stayed silent) But Atleast you were in on the joke. It had even felt nice, like you were with not just friends but family again. Show me where I said I have a problem with femboys in general. Because honestly? No problem with the identity. No problem with the concept. Same with drag, same with Crossdressers, same with sissys. Diantha wasn’t entirely sure of what to expect the second she stepped foot onto the tarmac. She had read about Pasio on the flight over, and got a good view of a few of the forested areas before landing. An artificial island put together by a bratty rich kid.

She honestly had figured the island would feel much the same: artificial. Like many of the sets she had stepped onto throughout her life. At best it would be a higher budget set.

The crashing waves and ever pervasive smell of the ocean that greeted her as she climbed down tiny jet airstairs left her pleasantly surprised. Behind her, Gardveoir hummed, thoroughly pleased as well.

The two were guided to a more secluded entrance of the airport, where all the other high-profile trainers arrived. With her bags being sent ahead to her lodging, they would figure out where to head first. Likely, in whatever direction Siebold happened to be, seeing as he had arrived well ahead of her.

Alone in the terminal, Diantha and Gardevoir stepped off to the side. “Let’s see if we can get a hold of Siebold,” Diantha said as she withdrew her phone from her purse, bringing it off airplane mode.

As she waited for the device to connect to the local network, a ripple of excitement rolled off Gardevoir, sending Diantha’s own pulse racing.

Gardevoir hummed, containing the emotion.

“My, who is nearby that has you so excited?” she asked, side-eyeing her pokemon.

Gardevoir quickly averted her eyes, turning her attention back towards the doorway they had come from.

Diantha laughed to herself, refocusing on her phone. It had yet to connect, meaning either the airport was blocking signal, or the island as a whole had subpar connection. She hoped it was just the airport. Before she could say anything to Gardevoir, a voice overshadowed her own.

“Well, look who finally decided to show up.”

The second she heard the voice, she knew exactly why Gardevoir had been so excited, because the voice alone was enough to instill the very same excitement in herself.

Cynthia.

Turning on her heel to face her, Diantha plastered on her best grin. “And look who is first in line to greet me.”

She could hardly resist a look-over.

Missing her signature jacket, and hair pulled half up, she was as dressed for warmer weather as she was going to be, but worst of all she still exuded all the confidence she had the first time they met and every year after that. The kind of confidence that demanded attention from everyone around her. Diantha was hardly immune.

“Took your sweet time getting here,” Cynthia continued, shifting her weight to her other foot. “Late to the party.”

Diantha rolled her eyes, highly aware of Cynthia’s eyes on her as she approached. “You should know by now that I am never late, everyone–”

Cynthia laughed, the sound sending another chill up Diantha’s spine. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, you’re never late, everyone else is just early.”

Diantha could only stare at her flatly.

“What? Not learned any new lines, lately?” she continued teasing. The ripple of amusement that felt like laughter from Gardevoir wasn’t helping.

Crossing her arms, Diantha took a step back. “Did you really come all this way to bother me? You really have a way of making a girl feel special.”

She shrugged, shoving her hands into her pockets. “Might have overheard Siebold saying you were going to be showing up soon. Couldn't resist.”

The admission gave Diantha more than enough ammo for a quick counter. She stepped up to her side to imply they should walk together. “You overheard, or did you pester him to tell you?” she asked, bumping her with her shoulder.

She returned the bump. “I think you know the only person I pester is you.”

honestly, i think the Panthers have like the Sharks taken the best route you can in a bad situation. and there's relief for me in that.

don't cave and undermine all the planning and work you did in order to cover for a few homophobic players. let it land on them. do not stop for their sake. thank you.

idk, personally the teams that backtrack on the jerseys entirely to cover for homophobes in their ranks leave me feeling way more angry and disillusioned than the ones where 90% of the guys are still out there in those jerseys and just one or two dipshits loudly sat out. i would have been way more disappointed by an entire organization making the decision to coddle and shelter homophobes than i am by the revelation that 2/18 players suck but the rest of them got with the program.

maybe that's a low bar. but yeah, i'm weirdly relieved that the jerseys made it to the ice at all. that so many chose to wear them.

it's like. at least some people cared enough to stick by us and not be cowards, y'know? even though dipping out was an option, somebody answered in the affirmative when asked if they'd stand with us. several somebodies did, actually.

when teams pull back entirely, we don't even get that much.

people talk about the "epidemic" of homophobia in the NHL and whether it should change how/if teams do Pride nights, but i would take an epidemic of 1-2 idiots per team sitting out of warmups over having an epidemic of all teams deciding not to do Pride at all because of those few. i would, genuinely.

are they "hijacking the events" or "taking away from the meaning of them"? idk man. these days bigots show up where queerness is visible to spout their bigot shit regardless. i have two pride flags in my hockey twitter display name, trust me, i know. at least when it happens like this, there's also people and an organization supporting us instead of just leaving us to deal with it alone.

does finding out some guys are homophobes suck? yeah. but we always knew these people existed. they're just showing themselves out loud.

and that blows. and it hurts.

but also, the entire rest of the team and the organization showed who they are tonight by not protecting or accommodating them, too.

i'm seeing so many people feel hurt by the two dumbasses who wouldn't stand beside them rather than encouraged by *every* other member of the team who *chose* not to cop out. and like. i get your hurt. but everyone else CHOSE to stand with us.

think about that for a second. sitting out was clearly an option here, if they put up enough of a stink. and yeah, two guys took that out. but *every other player* DID NOT. on the Sharks and Flyers, all but *one* guy apiece got with the program. some of them even did really meaningful community work!!

and the Panthers franchise decision-makers stood by their choice to do this, loudly and with meaningful activism attached, in FLORIDA, even when two of their own players pulled the religious protest card and copped out.

i extremely, massively respect that. i really do.

maybe i'm just a terminal optimist by nature, but. to me, what we are seeing is that when given the choice, so far the vast majority of players on these teams are still choosing to participate when given the option. when it's not taken out of their hands entirely by people upstairs.

the outliers suck, but they are just that. outliers. and i hope they feel like it.

personally, i'm not leaving this sport i love just because it's got a stubborn lingering jackass infestation. they can't have it. no, *you* move.

also, shoutout to the guys who extremely voluntarily opt-in even though it's not even their team's Pride night. genuinely means something

people vocally being asshats is discouraging. yeah. it always is. it stings.

like 12-13 year old me was going on like /pol/ and shit before the dysphoria hit

I think that being targeted by some form of radicalization was genuinely part of the reality of being a white kid online in the 200Xs to 201Xs.

I don't think I was fully on that pipeline, but I was 3000% an obnoxious neolib atheist as a teenager. The kind of person that describes themselves as "socially progressive, economically conservative", engaged with MRA stuff online with shallow "but what about men" sentiments, thought many protests had "the right idea, but are too extreme, we should just debate", and generally considered myself better than everyone else because of how "smart" and "rational" I was.

You know the type. This was when I was like... 14-17yo. And before you scoff at it being "dumb teenage shit", the alt right targeted those people, at that age and time, hard. I turned 18 in 2016, and that election was my first, coming right off of an online climate relentlessly trying to radicalize kids... So yeah, it was weird.

I feel like the ones that didn't become alt right gradually slid into leftism. Usually, the "revelation" moment was when you're excluded. You realize a lot of these people's "rationality" is based on irrational biases that they're dressing up as "logic", and it all crumbles. PoC and other minoritized groups are excluded form the start, of course, but since being queer is something that doesn't awaken until a bit later in life, it creates a kind of unique experience of potentially falling down that hole, until you realize you can't be a part of it.

But also to be fair... the same environment that caused a lot of the radicalization also fostered a lot of the communities we love. Modern "breadtube", as annoying as that term is, is an offshoot of this as well. Beyond just a few online-famous people, there's larger circles of leftist communities that have organized and done real, active good. I still carry some streaks of that stuff around, and I'm probably less extreme than most terminally online queer leftist circles. But idk. A bit of that weird, "rational worship" online vibe has done good, even if it's also done a lot of harm.

Honestly, everything I'm talking about here is extremely well summarized by Contrapoint's tangent about New Atheism. It's a Patreon exclusive, but it's a topic I saw myself reflected in a lot.

If my ramble here is shitty/incomplete and feels like I'm being apologetic or trying to excuse the alt right, that's an error in communication, not my actual intent- I hope that's clear.

TWLID and Godwyn's questline really does take a massive beating since Fia is the primary character of it, and she is 1. Not a TWLID 2. Has zero connection to Godwyn himself. She wants to argue about the persecution of TWLID but she doesn't have any TWLID in her posse, and there's never any indication that TWLID are even conscious thanks to their situation regarding souls. Like I get she's fixated on Godwyn as it's a way to fulfill her cult-instilled function but with someone SHE picks, but it doesn't give any insight into Godwyn himself or what the hell it might mean for him to be forced into becoming First Dead.

IDK I think the quest could have been handled better to say the least.

It's kinda true yeah!! I honestly think part of the problem is fans trying to package it neatly as a metaphor for a real world -ism so they don't have to touch the harder questions the plotline raises. If we just blindly accept that TWLID are no different than like Omen or Misbegotten, it's easy to say 'of course they're being unfairly maligned and shouldn't be killed! they're just a persecuted culture!'

But that's not at all what's going on here. TWLID are victims of a disease, much like the Omen. But unlike the Omen, they were already dead to begin with, and their souls are gone, making it even more morally and philosophically confounding. What are they exactly? Are they aware and sentient like everyone else, or are they just going through the motions? Do they have any wants? Do they really see themselves as some new cultural group in spite of the fact they were, in life, various peoples from various cultures? Do they want to live like this? Or would they rather be put to rest, given the state they're in? They can't die, which plenty of people will point out is an awful fate when it comes to condemning Marika for removing the Rune of Death. So doesn't it apply here, too? Shouldn't the dead be allowed to die?

Deathroot is clearly an existential threat to every living thing in the Lands Between, and I've never seen a single fan argue otherwise. Yet suddenly, when it comes to the consequences of deathroot, there's debate to be had. Like you said, we don't get any insight into Godwyn or his thoughts on the matter, and I really think it's because he simply has none. His soul's gone, so what's left? The only one representing TWLID as a positive thing that ought to be protected is Fia, who has 1) been conditioned from birth to be more than comfortable with the dead and 2)something to gain in seeing her own dreams realised in laying with Godwyn as opposed to one chosen for her. People frequently hold up Rogier as another champion for TWLID, but actually reading his dialog doesn't support that. He wants to save them, and that could mean any number of things. Besides this, he doesn't revere Godwyn, and he's not resentful of the Golden Order the way Fia is, so it seems fair to believe his perspective on the matter is distinct from hers.

Fia and Rogier's explicit agreements begin and end with saying TWLID are simply misunderstood and unfairly maligned. But she goes further than him, saying that we ought to be cementing their existence into the laws of reality, which is where it gets iffy. It makes sense to see the Golden Order's mass culling as cruel when there is likely a more humane way. It makes sense to have compassion for TWLID and want something better for them. It doesn't make sense to say they ought to be forced to keep living when we don't know if that's what they even want.

I know I harp on this a lot, but I really think it's better suited to be a story about our relationships to death and the dying. It fits so well with the ethical questions and real life struggles surrounding terminal illness, euthanasia, dying, and our fear of death. We have people stubbornly resistant to it, people who just ignore it, people arguing over it in either direction, we have the will of the dying being overlooked and pushed aside to accommodate the desires of the living, we have questions about what is the humane thing to do for someone who can't advocate for themselves. Fia's personal story revolves a lot around her fighting for her own agency, so it'd work wonderfully in a story asking us questions about the agency of the dying imo.

I know I will sound crazy and mad and insane for this probably but yes, I do highly believe that Penny will actually come back. No matter how many times I read why she won't, I have to disagree simply from the reading of her overall arc as a character. What I'm not certain is whether she will be fully resurrected in a body in V10, or just given hints (or something like, where she can talk with RWBY, Pietro and co. but still shares a body with Winter, like the Oscar/Ozma situation). AND HERE'S TO HOPING V10 DOES GET GREENLIT, WE NEED CONCLUSIONS TO THE ENTIRETY OF RWBY.

And to answer your question as to how they'll go about it? Idk really. There are many ways that the fandom (particularly the nnd and Penny cult fandom) have come up regarding Penny's third return. The most popular and arguably the most backed theory would be the Aura Transfer Machine theory, because from the two times it was relevant in the show (V3 and V7), it was never fully nor successfully used. And funny enough, the ATM was always about transferring Maiden powers, and it was always somehow connected to Atlas technology, so you can see where the narrative connects Winter, Penny and the ATM.

With V9's ending and showing no signs of Penny's body being around, that's where I'm personally kinda in the dark regarding of what they're going to do with her now. With Pietro around they could be going for another Penny robo body, but they'd have to address issues again of the possibility of Penny getting hacked, etc. Narratively speaking, I've always been on the idea that Penny will return not as human nor robot, but a mix of both (yeah, a cyborg!). Penny's weaknesses (and strengths / benefits??) as both human and robot have been expounded in the show that I feel like the most sensible conclusion is to give her the best of both worlds --- an enhanced human per se (like in the recent Terminator movies). But how they'll do that without Penny's human body, unless Ambrosius and the Staff of Creation gets involved again, kinda points me back to Penny being put back in a robot body (and from there they could probably just cover it up with some in-world explanation on why Penny is no longer hackable lmao). I like the idea that Winter will be heavily involved in it especially when it's been pointed out how Winter could allude to Pinocchio's Blue Fairy (who gave the boy his wishes). I could try to come up with any other way but it will always come back to Winter, Pietro and Ruby lmao
