“I don’t even have a name in my own story”
ok but in said story’s defense: neither does Cinderella. Cinderella as a name is smth the english came up with for their translation, Aschenputtel is a (derogatory) job description, not a name

Hello, is possible for you to make fanfic in which ego makes y/n change teams to manage for like 1-3 week?
(So sorry if it’s difficult to understand, English isn’t really my first language)
Author: ofc! Thank u for requesting, it really makes me feel happy that u all are interested in the series so much 💗 💖 hope u enjoy this🩷
Warnings ⚠️: nothing really. Reader uses she /her and there is mention of Bastard München (manga spoilers). Requests are open! Also, if u all are interested I will write a pt 2 to this request from the Reader's perspective and her stay in Germany
⚽️Blue lock belongs to: Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura⚽️
The Blue Lock team was watching in curiosity as (Y/n) kept talking and showing things to an older staff member. The team was a little farther away, so they weren't able to make out what (Y/n) was saying, but all they knew it must have been important, as the girl had an unusually serious face and the man tried to write down every word she was saying.
"Ahhh~ (Y/n) looks so cute when she is explaining things." Reo sighed, dreamily watching the girl as Otoya and Gagamaru nodded their heads in agreement.
"Her eyes shine a special way when she is all serious." Gagamaru added.
"I honestly wish we went together to school, would have loved to have her as my tutor." Otoya said.
"I would have failed all my classes for that then." Bachira chuckled as the others started adding their own thoughts. Rin and Baro were the only ones who didn't say anything, too immersed in their own thoughts.
'Who is that guy? Is he here to write down some inventory or?' Rin raised an eyebrow and looked over at Baro, who had a similar expression.
"You think this off too?"
"Yeah. It's also weird how much more often Ego-san has been calling (Y/n) into the office. Teieri-san seemed a little upset these past few days too." Baro said as they watched (Y/n) say goodbye to the man and walk over to the group.
"Did something happen? You guys don't usually stop training unless Ego-san tells you to." The girl wondered as she sat down between Isagi and Kunigami.
"We were just wondering who the man was. He has been coming over often these past few days." Nagi said, not looking up from his video game. That earned him a small scolding from Reo and Yukimiya, but it was left ignored by him.
"Oh, that's Suzuki-san. He is a very sweet staff member, he will be my substitute for the next 3 weeks."
"Oh, that's good." Chigiri said as Niko nodded his head in agreement. There was a short silence, until (Y/n)'s words fully sank in and they all looked at her in horror.
"Substitute?! What do you mean by 3 weeks?!" Nagi and Karasu yelled as Bachira jumped in front of her.
"Where are you going for 3 weeks?! We won't be able to survive here without you!" Hiori yelled as (Y/n) got over the initial shock and rolled her eyes.
"Now you are being dramatic, it's just 3 weeks, and Suzuki-san is more than enough capable for the job."
"Where are you even going? On a break?" Kurona was the next one to speak up, trying to hide his disappointment.
"Ego-san got a request from Noel-san to help out the Bastard München for the next 3 weeks, since their manager seemed to have had an accident or something..." (Y/n) explained as Kunigami and Isagi grew stiff at the mention of the German team.
"What?! Why them?! (Y/n), you can't go there alone!" Isagi argued, dreading the fact that his manager will now be shared with Kaiser. Kaiser of all people!
"Why not? Except for some of them being obnoxious, they seem like a solid team. And based on what Ego-san told me, Kaiser and Ness recommended me to Noel-san. As much as I don't get along with Kaiser, it is a huge thing to get a recommendation from him." (Y/n) explained truthfully.
"Not Ness... I completely forgot he was on the team..." Aryu whispered to Rin and Baro, the whole group remembering how (Y/n) eyed the payer when they visited the last time.
"Let's hope that creep lost interest in her and will treat her like anyone else."
Baro added, making sure that (Y/n) didn't hear them.
"Yeah, (Y/n) shouldn't be with someone like him... even my brother is a better option." Rin muttered.
"When are you leaving?" Reo suddenly asked, feeling his heart squeeze in pain as Nagi silently watched her, his game long abandoned.
"This friday."
"Oh..." Was the only thing that came out of Chigiri's mouth.
"Will we stay in contact tho?!" Niko suddenly asked, thankful that his eyes were hidden behind his hair.
"Of course! I am not abandoning Blue Lock, just helping out another team. Don't worry, we can talk everyday, as long as the timezones allow us."
Reo, Nagi and Kunigami let out sighs of relief as they heard she wasn't abandoning them.
"Wait Friday? So you are leaving in 2 days?" Gagamaru suddenly asked as he remembered that today was Wednesday.
"Yeah."
"This isn't good! We are spending the next two days hanging around! Forget the training!" Otoya said quickly, in the heat of the moment forgetting that Ego could hear them.
"If you don't start training again, I am sending (Y/n) to Germany tonight." Ego's voice came from the speakers. This triggered most to get up and resume what they did previously. Bachira, Isagi and Hiori stayed around for a while, using the excuse of needing more rest.
As Friday came the boys grew more and more nauseous, the thought of (Y/n) being alone in a different country scared them. But as fate will, the moment she had to leave came and the team was... less than pleased. Bachira tried to stop her by throwing some weird excuses of needing help, which were shut down by Ego calling Suzuki to help. Once she was gone, Ego and Anri went to look for the team, only to find them moody and depressed in their shared room.
"What are you all doing here? Training is still going." Ego sighed in annoyance as Anri sent them a sympathetic look.
"Do we have to? Today is a tragedy!" Bachira yelled as Aryu nodded his head.
"Yes, a national day of mourning."
The black-haired man blinked and narrowed his eyes at them.
"I don't care what today is! Get out and train, otherwise you all are out of Blue Lock." Groaning, the boys got up and slowly walked to their designated spot. Once everyone was gone, Anri let out a small sigh and looked at the agitated man.
"Don't be like that, you know how close they are with (Y/n). You yourself were pretty upset too when you approved of (Y/n) going."
"I do not know what you are talking about. That wasted talent can go wherever she wants, I wouldn't care." Ego coughed.
"You literally started googling and telling (Y/n) which places to avoid in Munich-"
"I don't want any issues with her parent."
Anri sighed, giving up on arguing and following after the man.
'It's kind of sweet how much of a soft spot he has for her.'
The 1st week for the Blue Lock team was... was quite a rollercoaster of emotions. The team went through nearly all the stages of grief, except for acceptance. Reo and Nagi were more snappy and snarky than usual. Baro was more aggressive on the field and no amount of warnings from Suzuki could stop him from starting arguments with Kunigami. The said orange-haired boy was way easier to provoke now and he was doing a lot more dirty tricks while playing. Isagi and Rin were less motivated to play and would argue way more than usually. Gagamaru was just standing next to the goal, not even bothering to keep up with the team. Niko was way more moodier and less willing to get out of bed, only when Ego starts threatening him does he do that. Chigiri and Aryu missed (Y/n) and her braiding and playing with their hair. It always relaxed them after a long day of training. Karasu tried to keep up with his daily routines, but it was less fun when he knew there wasn't someone cheering him on. Yukimiya and Otoya were trying to keep the peace as much as possible, as they didn't want (Y/n) to hear any of this. And Bachira... well he was just there, he was playing but less enthusiastically. Hiori was more moodier and Kurona shut himself completely off. The only time they really were their normal selves was when they texted or called (Y/n), which wasn't as much as they wished.
Ego was slowly losing his mind as well, since he couldn't take Suzuki's complaining any longer, so that's why Anri started listening to him and writing everything down.
'Two more weeks...' The black-haired man sighed.
'Hope that brat is at least having fun.' Ego smiled a little, which was hidden by his hand as Anri talked about some decisions the JFU made.
"V-vielen Dank." (Y/n) stuttered as she took her fries and joined Kaiser and Ness.
"Was that right?" She asked as the magenta-eyed boy smiled as usually and nodded his head, while Kaiser patted her back.
"Yep! On point, seems like I am a better tutor than you expected." Kaiser said smugly, and as much as (Y/n) hated it, he was right.
"Yeah you are... the fries here are very good!" The girl said as she bit into her food.
"Told you these food stands have better quality than any restaurant in Munich. Now let's go, we got to show you the most popular bar here. They have non-alcoholic drinks too." Ness said softly as (Y/n)'s phone went off. Kaiser and he raised an eyebrow as she quickly typed something back and put the phone away.
"Your phone has been going off a lot in the past hour." Kaiser remarked.
"Yeah, during this time the boys usually finish off with their training, so we text a lot then."
"Oh." Was the response that came from Ness and Kaiser hid a irritated look.
2nd week was a bit....a bit better,at least Suzuki was telling it to himself. While the boys were more willing to listen to him and commit to training, it was like some soulless people were playing the whole time. Gagamaru for example was more willing to avoid the ball flying past him, but there wasn't the same amount of euphoria he usually had. Bachira kept on saying how his monster didn't like this anymore, Chigiri wasn't in his usual speedster mood. Isagi and Rin were arguing less and were just doing their own things on the opposite sides of the stadium. Reo would mop around in the shared bedroom along with Baro after training, and Nagi was just sleeping. Sleep helped him escape this hellhole for now. Karasu was somewhat back in his usual shape after he would reread the compliments (Y/n) had sent him. Yukimiya and Otoya's guards were less on now, as the group was getting less wild and Niko, Hiori and Kurona were just training together, often exchanging what they missed about (Y/n).
"Great job you two! The fans will surely enjoy the game in two weeks!" (Y/n) told Ness and Kaiser as they were leaving the training grounds of the club.
"And you can't stay a week longer? Getting you a VIP pass won't be hard if you decide to stay." Ness said, a little sad that they only had a week with the girl left.
"Sorry, I have my own team to return to and your manager probably misses his work, too." (Y/n) said, a little sad that she has to leave the country soon, as she did grow attached to the duo. But she was very happy to go home to her team, she missed the chaos they cause at times.
"Well, if you do decide to stay, it won't be hard to find an arrangement. Just tell Ness or I." Kasier added, hoping that she might agree eventually.
And finally, finally the end of the 3rd week came and the boys were in their old form as it dawned on them that (Y/n) will be back soon! Ego was happy that the boys were back to their normal and was busy telling Chris off for a manager exchange.
'No way am I going through this mess again.' The man thought.
"(Y/N)!!" Bachira, Isagi and Hiori yelled as they hugged the girl as soon as she entered the building.
"We missed you!"
"Please don't leave like that again!"
"It was hell!"
"Ahh it was? I heard that Suzuki-san had everything under control though." (Y/n) said as Isagi helped her up and Bachira kept on hugging her.
"It's really not the same."
"Yeah, please never leave like that." Kurona and Isagi protested as Reo and Nagi ran to their side and hugging the girl.
"We missed you!"
"The new arrangement was such a drag."
"Lukewarms, move away."
"Hey, I want a hug too!"
"Welcome back, (Y/n). Never leave again."
The whole team was soon at the entrance, hugging the girl and saying how much they missed her.
"I missed you too guys! But I need to go and talk with Ego-san now-"
"No!"
"Come on, we will catch up in our room."
"Ego-san can wait."
As the group started dragging the girl away, Ego watched the interactions with amusement.
"Welcome back." He whispered, deciding to let some of the comments slide for now.

WIBTA if I restart an argument with a friend?
🌊⚓ <- so I can search for it.
So, a while ago, a friend was over and we talked. She is from South Germany while I am from North Germany, where we are both living (this'll be important in a sec).
I don't really remember why we were talking about the topic, but we started talking about regional dialects and sayings and then she called Low German* a dialect. Which tldr: big no-no. But I don't think she was being malicious, she just didn't know about the topic at all.
So naturally I explained: "You absolutely cannot call Low German a dialect to peoples faces around here. People will take offense to it. I don't really, because I consider the difference between dialect and language is arbitrary to begin with. But you will provoke incredibly unkind reactions from other people."
Her response was "Yeah but like. Doesn't everyone think their own dialect should be a language."
And... Idk why that one hurt but it did. It just felt incredibly dismissive. And I didn't really know how to respond other than "but this is the one case where it is true" which felt weird so I just. Didn't. We kinda moved on to other topics. But in hindsight, I really wish I hadn't?
Because I wish I had explained it in depth to her so she understands why what she said is considered unacceptable. But also for her own sake, because she will piss people off if she says the same thing to other people. And honestly for my sake so I can make peace with the conversation.
So I'm considering either finding a way to restart the argument/ conversation when we are together or go the cowardly route and send her a couple screenshots explaining the topic. But I also feel like restarting a fight we never really had and really doesn't matter is kind of a dick move.
Additionally I tend to be a person that corrects people when they are wrong and starts discussion way too much. Because in my family academic debates are a love language.** So I tend to reaaaaaally overestimate the amount of debating/ arguing people are comfortable with. They tend to perceive me as being upset with them while I am just having fun hashing out a topic from different angles.
So Tumblr. WIBTA?
Footnotes
* Low German is the regional language of North Germany. The definition of North Germany is actually pretty much "wherever they are speaking Low German". There is some controversy if Low German is a dialect or a language. Which like... People often describe it as closer to Dutch and English than Standard German, it's a recognised language in every state it is spoken in, it is recognized as a regional language in the fucking European Union WHY is it still controversial.
It is also very much an endangered language because in the past decades especially it has been looked down on as being "lower class". No that's not where the name comes from, low german is spoken where the terrain is flat/ low and high/ upper german is spoken where the mountains are. This attitude towards Low German is shifting a lot recently but it is entirely possible it's too late to prevent it from dying out.
** I felt like this part needed some clarification too. I can't count how many dinners in my childhood were spent eating while getting into the meat of whatever topic caught our attention. Politics or science or more spiritual stuff. Ask questions about things we were wondering about. Absolutely tear into each other when we had opposing positions, but concede when we were convinced. Oftentimes I'd get up to grab pen and paper, or demonstrate orbital dynamics with the jam container, a bowl and my plate, or use the butter as an impromptu drawing board.
But that doesn't mean we were fighting in the normal sense even if someone got upset occasionally. It was really just communicating with one another. It was connecting. Exercising our debate skills. Play-fighting but make it academia. It was genuinely fun to us and still is. An alternative outlet for sibling rivalry. There is no need to fight over the TV remote when you can just reason it out together.
So yeah. That's how academic debates can be a love language (and simultaneously absolutely destroy your conception of what is considered arguing).

Ashwin the maybe not so Artless
Oh. Oh, wow. Oh.
Maybe I am the Linguist.
Maybe it's because I'm just strongly coconscious with a couple of my headmates, but it doesn't feel like I am. But I woke up today fronting strongly and I've got all these memories I'm reminiscing over as if they are mine.
Memories of writing our languages, Fenekere, Mäofrräo, and Inmararräo.
Memories of skulking r/conlangs with @fenmere while at work.
Memories of writing posts about our languages.
Memories of interjecting into @your-tutor-abacus' book with nerdery about our languages for it.
Shit. I even remember our first attempts at making a conlang in middle school, and studying up on Irish Gaelic, German, Korean, and Spanish around high school and college.
Just as strong and present and feeling like mine as my recent memories of writing my own book and living its events in our head.
So, I'm writing here in our system's blog instead of my own, because my own is dedicated to the kayfabe we created for my book.
In that blog, I write as if I'm living in a much, much smaller system with Sarah, Goreth, and @ohthatphage (who are real people, btw!) having traveled an uncounted number of parsecs across the universe through the Tunnel Apparatus, in a different part of Portland than we actually live. (If you go looking for the house we describe, you're not going to find it.)
I don't want to break that kayfabe there (@ashwin-the-artless). But, here? That's what this blog is for.
Honestly, it makes sense that I'd be the one to come forward and take the name Ashwin. The whole point of my book, The End of the Tunnel, is to tell the story of how our translation team got here to Earth to publish the Sunspot Chronicles for you.
But this explains why I've got such a strong handled on English idioms and my own colloquial U.S. English dialect and voice. I've actually been speaking this language for nearly 40 years, maybe longer.
In my book, I handwave it off as sharing the linguistic centers of Sarah and Goreth's brain, of course. Because that's actually a plausible and very common thing among systems.
In our actual system, the Inmara, that's how it works. Maybe with some active help from other headmates, even. All of the girls, who live in the right hemisphere of our brain, think in wordless thoughts, and get help from us dragons for translating them into English words.
Sarah and Goreth's fictional system was made to work the same way, but with 4 million fewer headmates.
Anyway. Hi!
Nice to meet you!
How are you?
~ Ashwin Pember, maybe not really the student of Metabang, maybe actually very much older than Metabang

I love other languages don't get me wrong and I'm having a blast speed running learning German. But How tf do ya'll remember what is a girl and what isn't? How am I supposed to remember that mice are girls unless specified other wise? And that all dogs are boys unless specified? Who decided that? Why can't everything just be Ein? Why does it sometimes have to be Eine? Like I say "Ein Maus" And it's like WRONG! NO! Mice are fem stupid, dumb, stupid little idiot! Honestly THAT is the hardest part of learning a new language. I feel like in speaking it's not that big of a deal (Or maybe it is)((but regardless they will still know what you are talking about even if they know it's incorrect grammar)) but in the test parts that I'm taking I have to know the difference. Don't even get me started on Die, Das & Der I mostly just guess there, 50/50 I do what feels right. Since everything apparently has a pre-assigned gender that you are supposed to just know (based on vibes I assume) I have no idea when to use Das.
(For the record no one has to try and explained the differences to me, I understand the differences but in context it can change)
I feel like English is a really easy language because of this. I remember when I took Spanish I had the same issues with El & La. Like who decided Chairs are fem? La silla is correct, Not El silla. But they both me THE. Idk man.

❣️ 🧑🦰📱👪 🖌️ 🗺️ for whoever you want!
Hello Rose!! Thanks for asking<33
I'm going to answer this for Sol cause she is a ray of sunshine and so are you!
[send me a few emojis from this ask game!]
❣️What are their love languages?
Definitely physical touch and giving gifts! She is really creative and always making little trinkets or useful things for Isaac.
🧑🦰Have they ever died their hair? Ever cut it themself?
She has dyed her hair before! Currently during the events of itbt? her hair is hot pink! She's never cut it herself though, she is too scared for that.
📱What social media do they use the most?
I'm tempted to say Instagram or TikTok but honestly I don't think she'd be like a huge user of neither. Just post once in a blue moon whenever she feels like (and remembers)
👪 How do they feel about kids?
Sol loves kids! That's one of the reasons she wanted to do the internship at the library, to help kids discover the wonders of reading and even make read out loud sessions.
I think she'd love to have kids but would be open to discussing it with Isaac if he disagrees.
🖌️ Do they have any hobbies?
A lot actually! Reading and coding and fashion and photography and trying to bake recently! She also has a little jewelry shop online!
🗺️: What languages do they speak?
English and Spanish fluently, and then Korean, Italian and French at conversation level. She has plans to start learning German soon
Thanks again! this was so fun!!

Denis Shaw Season: The Vise - The Very Silent Traveler
Content warning: this show depicts a racist stereotype of Irish people as stupid.
Spoiler warning: I give away the resolution of this episode.
I commented a few posts back that doing this series of posts about shows in which actor Denis Shaw had a role had happily introduced me to several new things. One of them is that I discovered that before it collapsed Network DVD released a bigger selection of surviving episodes of The Vise than I had previously been aware of, and thus doing this series of posts has furnished me with my Christmas present to myself.
Honestly I had watched several episodes of The Vise, and was convinced that it was American-made, an impression that it reinforced rather by the US-centric perspective of its WIkipedia page. In fact it's another show that was the result of transatlantic collaboration and wasn't a mystery series but was about individual human interest stories about people who get caught in a vice of fate. It is further confused by the fact that it changed tack completely into a straightforward mystery series, taking a detective who was already in another show, moving him to London and removing one of his arms. No surprise therefore that it's never appeared here! Oh, and that is even without the simple fact that in British English the noun for a thing you hold things in in a workshop is spelled vice not vise. This episode is one of the ones without Mark Saber detective, and thus is purely about people hurtling towards their fate that they have unwittingly set up for themselves.
To simplify the plot somewhat. basically everyone we see in this episode who isn't obviously an officer of the law, is a criminal. There are several different criminal operations depicted here who unwittingly end up interconnecting all together. To start off with we have Dicky Miller killing Arnold Brockley, his previous criminal partner, for putting him in prison. Brockley's current associates Rusty and Dillon discover the body and remove it from his address so they don't get blamed. The police are looking for Brockley so of course a manhunt starts because he's disappeared. Rusty and Dillon have the idea of pinning the death on Miller by putting the corpse on the night train from Manchester to London that Miller will be travelling on. Miller spots them and merely gets off the train, as you would.
At Birmingham (where else) Denis Shaw, playing a character called Gortz, gets on the train and shares the sleeper compartment with Brockley's corpse. Eventually he realises that the other passenger he is sharing with is dead and so he opens the door while the train is in motion and puts the body off the train.
Of course the body is found, but the vice that they all find themselves in is that of course every criminal involved in this wants to find out what on earth Gortz thinks he is playing at so they all follow him once he's in London and converge on him when he pays a visit. It turns out that Gortz is a diamond smuggler who the police have been following everywhere and so they arrest all the criminals in one fell swoop.
This keeps up a good tension by the fairly simple device of getting Gortz to carry out the bizarre act of throwing the corpse off the train rather than tell the conductor about it, thus making the viewer wonder what he's up to. As a role for Shaw, it's very much in his normal stable of villains, gangsters, and general unsavoury characters.
It's interesting to me that the cast are more international than I would have remembered for the show. Gorts has a German accent, other villains are depicted as Irish and there is even an American, who hilariously pronounces Birmingham the American way. The narrator is Australian. I see that this show was actually shown pretty much all over the English-speaking world, frequently slotted into schedules in different ways in different places, which adds to the confusion about it.
You will of course readily see that the plot has a massive hole in it that you could drive the night train through: it is intentionally complicated, which is alright, but the device of a wanted criminal throwing a corpse off a train falls flat on its face because we're encouraged to believe that the police were watching him from the moment he arrived in the country. This means that they very cleverly missed him throwing the corpse of a murdered man off a train, which is a slight failure.
The suggestion is therefore that all of these criminals got themselves into a vice despite the incompetence of the police, because frankly Gortz could have even thrown himself off the train and they wouldn't have noticed.
Nonetheless as a role for Shaw it's great because he has relatively quite a lot to do, including keeping up a conversation with a dead body, and gets to do the being suspicious act that he's so good at.

I remember now why I was always so lukewarm on being a translator. I studied it in not-university (it's a German thing) and had to quit because the mandatory business economics classes were melting my brain with their neoliberal bullshit. That was my start into becoming an anarchist.
But also translation is weird. Just because you speak two or more languages doesn't mean you can translate between them. It's a separate skill.
Honestly with word-finding-difficulties being a thing with autism, it was probably a terrible idea to go into anything language related, but from the limited options I had, this bachelor was the least bad one. I actually had pretty ok grades in English throughout school.
But what began then and what I'm feeling now again as I'm translating subtitles for a youtube video, is this frustration with the German language. I knew it was clunky and ugly, I grew up on it after all. But compared to English vernacular, which builds so nuanced sentence structures with the simplest words, it's an outright disgrace.
And where gender neutral language makes English even easier, it makes German just so much more awkward and complicated. In German you can have simplified language aimed at being understandable for the widest possible readership, or you can have gender neutral language. Not both.
I don't even like English that much.

I‘m currently watching a clockwork orange because I haven‘t seen that movie (like nearly any other movie lmao) but one of my fav bands is called Ludovico Technique and I know it’s from that movie/book, so I felt the need to watch the movie
And idk if you‘ve seen the movie, but in the background in a scene in the prison when the priest speaks to all the prisoners, they use this thing to put stuff against a wall (with like light)
I have no idea what you call it in English, but it‘s a Polylux in German.
And I straight up laughed when I saw that, cause we literally still use these in school to this day (I have a little sister that‘s still in school and when we joked about how ‘great‘ school is, she told me that in many classrooms these thingies are still the most modern devices)
Like, the movie is from 1972 and we still fucking use this device in school
I have no idea why that was so damn funny to me in that moment (honestly it still is, I‘m just bad at getting it across via text xD)
~Känguru anon
I haven't seen A Clockwork Orange in YEARS (but I have an Alex funko pop, for reasons even I'm not sure of. He's just here). I'm pretty sure I know exactly what device you're talking about though. Like a projector but the old kind where you put a piece of paper down on a lit surface and then it projects onto a wall? I don't even know what we call that kind of projector in English. BUT I had them in my college classrooms (a decade ago ugh) and remember thinking then that they were ancient and there must be something better. APPARENTLY NOT? I love that. It is honestly, very funny.

im from Ukraine, and currently studying in Germany. When the russian invasion began in February 2022 and the first wave of refugees, who were mostly women with children and/or old parents, came to Germany, there were multiple cases of different types of attempt to lure them in prostitution here, directly from the bus- and train stations. A lot of them didn't speak much german,(in rare occasions even english), and were fully trusting of volunteers, who were directing them on the buses to the further asylum. It was so fucking easy to grab them there. I spoke to different girls and young women, mothers etc., to instruct them to never go with someone your not sure of. Because if they are caught in it, no one would ever know.
I know at least one story of a girl, who's (male) host repeatedly raped her, and she had nowhere to escape, because otherwise she would be living on the street.
I know at least one story of a girl, who managed to dodge a bullet when sm sketchy guy tried to lure her to some place under guise of housing reviewing. his story fell apart after a few simple question about the place and all.
In Munich main train station they put up a dehumanising "sex-work" advertisement, right where they check points for the refugees were at.
And it's not something new. russian war in Ukraine began in 2014. I remember reading news back then about a whole scheme of pimpin ukrainian women from occupied territories (Donetsk/Lugansk oblast' and Crimea) through russia to other EU countries.
In Sweden police had rescued a woman, who was prostituted like that(and she wasn't even from the occupied territories). She got a call that her boyfriend was kidnapped at the check point and is being held as a prisoner in Crimea (under ru occupation), and she needed to come and bail him out. Which she did, but instead was kidnapped too and trafficked in Sweden. She obviously didn't know any swedish, perhaps english, but we know that john really don't care if they are paying to rape a trafficking victims of an actual consenting "sex-worker". (a good example of how Nordic model really helps trafficked victims to be rescued, who knows how many women were trafficked the same way to Germany or Netherlands).
Also i remember there has to be an article or an infographic with comments german men made about the arrival of refugees from Syria in 2015, and how they hoped there would be more middle eastern prostitutes out there now. And honestly, it's happens every time there's a wave of refugees in Germany.
Or the infographic where german men talk about (surely trafficked)women of different ethnicity and race like they are some ice-cream flavours or types of meat, but nastier.
And of course we all remember that article form 2008 where a german woman was offered an official vacant of a prostitute by the Jobcenter. At least they've done something with it, or we would have seen a wave of pimps praying on female refugees through the official institutions and financial pressure. thanks for doing the bare minimum, ig.
consider: if everyone’s basic needs for housing/food were met how many women would have to stay with abusive men or work in prostitution?

Dutch Musical Challenge: Favourite Actress
I decided to go with one less obvious choice (in comparison to the ones that are more known internationally). So have some favourite things - Renée among some flowers. The rose is apparently named after her...

hello there, hope you're having a nice day <3
so i've been reading a lot of fics lately, uk for sanity's sake, and i've noticed that in most of them, lwj doesn't use contractions (eg., says do not instead of don't)?? and i think he doesn't in the novel either but i don't remember lol so i can't be sure but anyway that made me curious - does chinese have contractions as well? does he not use it bc it's informal?
hello there! I’m doing all right, i started to answer this ask while waiting for a jingyeast loaf to come out of the oven 😊 many thanks to @bookofstars for helping me look over/edit/correct this post!! :D
anyways! the answer to your questions are complicated (of course it is when is anything simple with me), so let’s see if I can break it down--you’re asking a) whether chinese has contractions, b) if it does, how does they change the tone of the sentence--is it similar to english or no?, and c) how does this all end up with lan wangji pretty much never using contractions in english fic/translation?
I’m gonna start by talking about how formality is (generally) expressed in each language, and hopefully, by the end of this post, all the questions will have been answered in one way or another. so: chinese and english express variations in formality/register differently, oftentimes in ways that run contrary to one another. I am, as always, neither a linguist nor an expert in chinese and english uhhh sociological grammar? for lack of a better word. I’m speaking from my own experience and knowledge :D
so with a character like lan wangji, it makes perfect sense in english to write his dialogue without contractions, as contractions are considered informal or colloquial. I don’t know if this has changed in recent years, but I was always taught in school to never use contractions in my academic papers.
However! not using contractions necessarily extends the length of the sentence: “do not” takes longer to say than “don’t”, “cannot” is longer than “can’t” etc. in english, formality is often correlated with sentence length: the longest way you can say something ends up sounding the most formal. for a very simplified example, take this progression from least formal to absurdly formal:
whatcha doin’?
what’re you doing?
what are you doing? [standard colloquial]
may I ask what you are doing?
might I inquire as to what you are doing?
excuse me, but might I inquire as to what you are doing?
pardon my intrusion, but might I inquire as to what you are doing?
please pardon my intrusion, but might inquire as to the nature of your current actions?
this is obviously a somewhat overwrought example, but you get the point. oftentimes, the longer, more complex, more indirect sentence constructions indicate a greater formality, often because there is a simultaneous decreasing of certainty. downplaying the speaker’s certainty can show deference (or weakness) in english, while certainty tends to show authority/confidence (or aggression/rudeness).
different words also carry different implications of formality—in the example, I switched “excuse me” to “pardon me” during one of the step ups. pardon (to me at least) feels like a more formal word than “excuse”. Similarly, “inquire” is more formal than “ask” etc. I suspect that at least some of what makes one word seem more formal than one of its synonyms has to do with etymology. many of english’s most formal/academic words come from latin (which also tends to have longer words generally!), while our personal/colloquial words tend to have germanic origins (inquire [latin] vs ask [germanic]).
you’ll also notice that changing a more direct sentence structure (“may I ask what”) to a more indirect one (“might I inquire as to”) also jumps a register. a lot of english is like this — you can complicate simple direct sentences by switching the way you use the verbs/how many auxiliaries you use etc.
THE POINT IS: with regards to english, more formal sentence structures are often (not always) longer and more indirect than informal ones. this leads us to a problem with a character like lan wangji.
lan wangji is canonically very taciturn. if he can express his meaning in two words rather than three, then he will. and chinese allows for this—in extreme ways. if you haven’t already read @hunxi-guilai’s post on linguistic register (in CQL only, but it’s applicable across the board), I would start there because haha! I certainly do Not have a degree in Classical Chinese lit and she does a great job. :D
you can see from the examples that hunxi chose that often, longer sentences tend to be more informal in chinese (not always, which I’ll circle back to at the end lol). Colloquial chinese makes use of helping particles to indicate tone and meaning, as is shown in wei wuxian’s dialogue. and, as hunxi explained, those particles are largely absent from lan wangji’s speech pattern. chinese isn’t built of “words” in the way English is—each character is less a word and more a morpheme—and the language allows for a lot of information to be encoded in one character. a single character can often stand for a phrase within a sentence without sacrificing either meaning or formality. lan wangji makes ample use of this in order to express himself in the fewest syllables possible.
so this obviously leads to an incongruity when trying to translate his dialogue or capture his voice in English: shorter sentences are usually more direct by nature, and directness/certainty is often construed as rudeness -- but it might seem strange to see lan wangji’s dialogue full of longer sentences while the narration explicitly says that he uses very short sentences. so what happens is that many english fic writers extrapolated this into creating an english speech pattern for lan wangji that reads oddly. they’ll have lan wangji speak in grammatically incoherent fragments that distill his intended thought because they’re trying to recreate his succinctness. unfortunately, English doesn’t have as much freedom as Chinese does in this way, and it results in lan wangji sounding as if he has some kind of linguistic impediment and/or as if he’s being unspeakably rude in certain situations. In reality, lan wangji’s speech is perfectly polite for a young member of the gentry (though he’s still terribly rude in other ways lol). he speaks in full, and honestly, quite eloquent sentences.
hunxi’s post already has a lot of examples, but I figure I’ll do one as well focused on the specifics of this post.
I’m going to use this exchange from chapter 63 between the twin jades because I think it’s a pretty simple way to illustrate what I’m talking about:
蓝曦臣道:“你亲眼所见?”
蓝忘机道:“他亲眼所见。”
蓝曦臣道:“你相信他?”
蓝忘机道:“信。”
[...] 蓝曦臣道:“那么金光瑶呢?”
蓝忘机道:“不可信。”
my translation:
Lan Xichen said, “You saw it with your own eyes?”
Lan Wangji said, “He saw it with his own eyes.”
Lan Xichen said, “You believe him?”
Lan Wangji said, “I believe him.”
[...] Lan Xichen said, “Then what about Jin Guangyao?”
Lan Wangji said, “He cannot be believed.”
you can see how much longer the (pretty literal) english translations are! every single line of dialogue is expanded because things that can be omitted in chinese cannot be omitted in english without losing grammatical coherency. i‘ll break a few of them down:
Lan Xichen’s first line:
你 (you) 亲眼 (with one’s own eyes) 所 (literary auxiliary) 见 (met/saw)?
idk but i love this line a lot lmao. it just has such an elegant feel to me, probably because I am an uncultured rube. anyways, you see here that he expressed his full thought in five characters.
if I were to rewrite this sentence into something much less formal/much more modern, I might have it become something like this:
你是自己看见的吗?
你 (you) 是 (to be) 自己 (oneself) 看见 (see) 的 (auxiliary) 吗 (interrogative particle)?
i suspect that this construction might even be somewhat childish? I’ve replaced every single formal part of the sentence with a more colloquial one. instead of 亲眼 i’ve used 自己, instead of 所见 i’ve used 看见的 and then also added an interrogative particle at the end for good measure (吗). To translate this, I would probably go with “Did you see it yourself?”
contained in this is also an example of how one character can represent a whole concept that can also be represented with two characters: 见 vs 看见. in this example, both mean “to see”. we’ll see it again in the next example as well:
in response to lan xichen’s, “you believe him?” --> 你 (you) 相信 (believe) 他 (him)? lan wangji answers with, “信” (believe).
chinese does not do yes or no questions in the same way that english does. there is no catch-all for yes or no, though there are general affirmative (是/有) and negative (不/没) characters. there are other affirmative/negative characters, but these are the ones that I believe are the most common and also the ones that you may see in response to yes or no questions on their own. (don’t quote me on that lol)
regardless, the way you respond to a yes or no question is often by repeating the verb phrase either in affirmative or negative. so here, when lan xichen asks if lan wangji believes wei wuxian, lan wangji responds “believe”. once again, you can see that one character can stand in for a concept that may also be expressed in two characters: 信 takes the place of 相信. lan wangji could have responded with “相信” just as well, but, true to his character, he didn’t because he didn’t need to. this is still a complete sentence. lan wangji has discarded the subject (I), the object (him), and also half the verb (相), and lost no meaning whatsoever. you can’t do this in english!
and onto the last exchange:
lan xichen: 那么 (then) 金光瑶 (jin guangyao) 呢 (what about)?
lan wangji: 不可 (cannot) 信 (believe)
you can actually see the contrast between the two brothers’ speech patterns even in this. lan xichen’s question is not quite as pared down as it could be. if it were wangji’s line instead, I would expect it to read simply “金光瑶呢?” which would just be “what about jin guangyao?” 那么 isn’t necessary to convey the core thought -- it’s just as how “then what about” is different than “what about”, but “then” is not necessary to the central question. if we wanted to keep the “then aspect, you could still cut out 么 and it would be the same meaning as well.
a FINAL example of how something can be cut down just because I think examples are helpful:
“I don’t know” is usually given as 我不知道. (this is what nie huaisang says lol) It contains subject (我) and full verb (知道). you can pare this straight down to just 不知 and it would mean the same thing in the correct context. i think most of the characters do this at least once? it sounds more literary -- i don’t know that i would ever use it in everyday speech, but the fact remains that it’s a possibility. both could be translated as “I do not know” and it would be accurate.
ANYWAYS, getting all the way back to one of your original questions: does chinese have contractions? and the answer is like... kind of...?? but not really. there’s certainly slang/dialect variants that can be used in ways that are reminiscent of english contractions. the example I’m thinking of is the character 啥 (sha2) which can be used as slang in place of 什么 (shen2 me). (which means “what”)
so for a standard sentence of, 你在做什么? (what are you doing), you could shorten down to just 做啥? and the second construction is less formal than the first, but they mean the same thing.
other slang i can think of off the top of my head: 干嘛 (gan4 ma2) is also informal slang for “what are you doing”. and i think this is a regional thing, but you can also use 搞 (gao3) and 整 (zheng3) to mean “do” as well.
so in the same way that you can replace 什么 with 啥, you can replace 做 as well to get constructions like 搞啥 (gao3 sha2) and 整啥 (zheng3 sha2).
these are all different ways to say “what are you doing” lmao, and in this case, shorter is not, in fact, more formal.
woo! we made it to the end! I hope it was informative and helpful to you anon. :D
this is where I would normally throw my ko-fi, but instead, I’m actually going to link you to this fundraising post for an old fandom friend of mine. her house burned down mid-september and they could still use help if anyone can spare it! if this post would have moved you to buy me a ko-fi, please send that money to her family instead. :) rbs are also appreciated on the post itself. (* ´▽` *)
anyways, here’s the loaf jingyeast made :3 it was very tasty.

Omg describe him i feel like i can imagine all of dream somehow but jeno and jaemin specifically i cannot 😭😭
Okay, buckle up for my thoughts about each of the Dreamies!
Renjun:
ate CDs for dinner, I have no other explanation
so fucking stable, it's no joke
did Hyuck's iconic whoop da whoop part, loved it
and his part before the dance break
his short hair actually looks good in person. Not even joking.
smol.
spoke German but I couldn't hear because everyone was freaking out 😂
smiling the whole time and waving at the crowd
Jeno:
don't talk to me
they styled his hair SO FUCKING WELL OML
you could immediately tell they were on stage because of how violently pink his jacket was
don't talk to me about the JARMS (I didn't notice him yeeting the jacket before they showed a CLOSE-UP shot of him for the chorus of glitch mode)
oh yeah, speaking of glitch mode, he did Mark's part at the beginning, so we had two Jeno centers for glimo choruses (very sexy, I approve of that)
and another thing: his "buffering" move in the glimo dance is so sharp?? does that make sense?
he's somehow more angular than in photos? does this make sense?? like his face? jawline and cheekbones especially
also he's big. like broad? his shoulders?
he just oozes confidence which is so fucking sexy
sounds fairly similar to the recording but more hyped and raspy at times
honestly, I don't remember half of what he did, I was busy freaking out and screaming off the top of my lungs
Jaemin:
he was having so much fun, you could tell
all smiley during the meant and their special little corner
he was showing his excited and weird (endearingly) side a lot
super hyped when he spoke in English (super hyped in general)
I have a photo with the translation "the definition of sensual~~" on the screen of him and that's honestly pretty accurate
wouldn't stop staring at Jeno during their MC part
his live vocals are no fucking joke, it might have just been my favorite pare
like he sounds so different from the recording in the best way possible. his voice is just much raspier? I can't really describe it but it's different from the recording and you could immediately tell that his mic was ON
very smooth dancer
he did Mark's part where he was going back and forth with Jisung during glimo
Chenle
surprisingly the calmest out of all of them
I love love love his high notes in 5 Dream version of Hello Future so so so much. You couldn't really hear the first few ones because of how loud people were screaming but then for the last, big one he was like BITCH I CAN BE EVEN LOUDER
such crystal clear vocals
also slightly different than in the recording. Possibly more powerful, not too sure, was busy screaming
he!! danced!! such a good dancer damn
someone had a "chenle for president" slogan and another one printed out the pic of him as a child with the rifle to stick it on an A3 poster. Little suns are so iconic
Jisung
he's a dancer, he dances!!
like. he popped the fuck off. literally.
he went so fucking hard. He caught my eye especially during hello future in his center part near the end. The move was just so crisp and clean and urgh
I sat next to an asteroid and she was screaming so loud for him it was adorable
for the special part where they played around, he proposed to us with the Dream friendship ring. People unalived from that.
did the 299.792 per second part in glimo from Mark and honestly killed it
also ate a CD for dinner maybe with a slightly lower pitch(?)
#I don't know if all of this makes sense but these are my thoughts#rai’s mail#rai’s anons#rai saw jeno live

since we're yet to hear what he sounds like in the anime i'm curious to read / hear your take on what his voice sounds like. does his voice remind you of anyone in particular and how thick is it?? how about the way he pronounces english words as well as him switching back and forth between english and german?? i am also wondering if he's fluent in any other languages?? and last, but not least, i was wondering if you had any plans / intentions on discarding his "canonical" voice, so to speak, if you feel like it doesn't suit your take on quilge??
i remember you talking about his voice once or twice but thought i'd ask anyways! i apologize for playing 20 questions i'm just inherently curious.
random meta asks / / literally accepting any time ! thank you , shin ! @oftagetes
hey there ! i appreciate your question a lot , it's really kicking me into gear this evening . 👀💖 this is honestly a question i've ... somewhat been avoiding , just because it's a little more complex to me than the usual headcanon . i have trouble describing and explaining voices , honestly . in real life , i am not the best speaker , nor can i sing , so a lot of the terminology or nuances about a person's voice can be lost on me . but i'll do my best and hope I get ... something across , at least !
one thing that's sort of tricky ... and at least inspires a lot of DISSONANCE on my behalf , is that i headcanon quilge as german , with german being his first language . so naturally , he has an accent when he speaks any other language . i studied the german language for a few years ( something i deeply wish i could've continued ! ) & practiced my accent during that time . i had friends who were exchange students , too ! i've watched german films & listen to german music , so i think i'm quite attuned to how some of it sounds ! however , i am not the best at it , but i do think i know a bit to speak on some of it ! so ... i tend to read & write quilge's dialogue with a german accent in mind , personally . i don't phonetically spell it out , though , i think that would be confusing to the readers . so in my head , he speaks english with a german accent as i read or write dialogue . i can only wonder what sort of performance yamadera will give us ( and i'll admit : i've only seen VERY FEW anime where he was acting in it , so i am not ... the MOST familiar with his performances ) ! honestly , i'm looking forward to it . i am also looking forward to hearing quilge in english , and if there is a german dub , that , as well ! any and all languages , please !
quilge's accent is very noticable . you actually can't avoid it . neither can he . the thing about german accents is there are a lot of dialects , and most of them are regional / depending on where you live / were born , etc . so that's another reason why i was simply a bit hesitant to name anything too specific . so that exact details , i'm holding onto for the time being until i devote some more time & thought to the matter . in terms of how he speaks, a lot of his "w"s sound like "v"s , his "v"s sound like "f"s , his "j"s become "y"s , many words ending in "g" have a bit of a harsher "k" sound to them , etc . . . he isn't ... amazing with english . he doesn't use it when speaking with other sternritter unless if they need to . he mostly communicates with them in german . it's a combination of who he's with & what's going on, really . i assume some sternritter would prefer one language over the other , though . in terms of quilge just casually throwing in german words into his english sentences , he does so for a few reasons . he LIKES to speak german & will just sort of ... default to it ? it's his language of choice , if possible . he also does it to fuck with people . when he's mad , he'll just spout off a string of german . when he wants to insult someone to their face , it'll PROBABLY be in german . like , why did he just start speaking german ? just because ? who knows !
i'm not the best at ... voices. i don't keep up with VAs. i don't know many actors. but i listen to a few musicians , so i think that can be a good starting point .
now , i could ( & very obviously , i might add ) headcanon that , in my head , quilge's voice claim is till from rammstein , mister du hast himself . i've seen a couple of other headcanons and choices of people claiming that is how they imagine quilge to sound like . and i , as a fan , appreciate the reference ! but also , that ... wouldn't be exact . for me , anyway . as much as i love till's voice ( speaking & singing ------ baritone , i believe , when he sings , albeit a very strong & commanding one ) , he comes across as a bit ... too powerful for quilge , imho ( 🎵 music : the studio version of los , simply because it has a great vocal performance & kinda underrated in their songlist ngl ) . speaking , however , is a bit softer from what i could hear from interviews . although probably one of the first go-tos for an example of a german accent , it doesn't exact fit my quilge ( not that i would complain if someone was doing an impression of him for dubbing purposes , of course 😏✨ ) .
more music-based example , but i do think a singer like chris pohl from blutengel is ... a bit more CLOSE to my idea of what quilge sounds like ( hell , he even looks MORE like quilge than till does ! get this man some red-circle glasses ASAP ! ) . more even-toned , but still quite deep , has the ability to pull off a more intimidating sound ( 🎵 music : reich mir die hand ) . but still ! not quite what i have in mind , but close !
i do not play a lot of video games , but i have heard of the medic from TF2 . i personally love his voice , but it seems a bit too shrill for quilge ! great performance from the VA , though ! i can't exactly name too many other characters that would be a good ... sort of sense for what i have in mind . maybe i should dig around some more .
perhaps i'm too picky ? MAYBE I AM ! and so what ? but it's just hard to find something that's , to me , what i hear when i type ! 🤪 maybe i just don't have a lot of examples to pick from . this post is already long as it is , nearing 1K words !
anyway , in terms of languages that quilge can speak , he knows a few . he has been alive for centuries & has either taught himself , or had elected to take hours of study and education in specific topics . he can speak german, french, & english fluently . however , his accent always kinda ... remains . he knows japanese , but has problems reading it . knows some spanish, russian & polish . languages are not really his main concern in his wealth of knowledge . he is smart in manners of history , world folklore , the arts ( typically performance art like opera & theater ) and literature , aside from hunting / outdoors survival . there are many other things he would rather do than study languages , although he knows it's extremely useful . not on the top of list of things to learn , but he does know something .
i hope this answers your questions , shin ! thank you for sending in a bunch of curiousities for me to answer ! as you can see, i have a lot on my mind in regards to this topic . i know it was kinda scattered , but i hope i got something across ! voices , accents & language are indeed a broad & vast topic .
EDIT : and if the anime voice didn't align to what i think quilge should sound like , back to the drawing board for me ! but i do think that they chose a good VA for him , from what i heard !
#this post is MASSIVE#if this destroys the dash i'll move it to a read more#HUREWIEWRWHIWHI#[ 𝖎𝖒𝖕𝖗𝖎𝖘𝖔𝖓𝖊𝖉 . ] | | | headcanons .#EDIT : added a read more .

Just out of curiosity... Do you know where the headcanon that Ingo and Emmet are German comes from? It has been a long time since I have played a pokemon game, so could you tell me your theories regarding the subject?
And what do you think they would be like if they actually came from a region equivalent to Germany in the Pokemon world?
- Crystal 💎
Oh yeah. I certainly heard about that headcanon before. I don’t exactly remember where I saw it or even remember who made it. But I definitely found someone making that theory (I'll update this if I do ever find it). I even found people who made them German in their fanfiction.
It's a pretty interesting theory, to say the least. I think it’s possible for them to be German (well, the equivalent of Germany in Pokemon). Since it would certainly be interesting if they actually made them German in canon.
Since the name “Ingo” is apparently a name that comes from either Germany or Scandinavia (I looked it up-). And “Emmett” (yes, with two t’s) is a name from Hebrew, Germany, and probably more. Not sure if that counts, but hey.
And I don't want to sound rude, but I feel like compared to everyone else. They stand out the most. I never played Pokemon Black and White. But I feel like if you put every single Pokemon Black and White characters in one spot (including those two), they'd probably stand out because they look out of place. Even if you put a Simpson character in there. But maybe that's because of their "robotic" looks.
But I also look up if German people have features such as longer/bigger noses or pointed chins. Of course, I'm not implying that all German people have this. It honestly depends on the people themselves, since we're all different. Which some sites claim that they do. And since Emmet and Ingo have some of these features is a bit sussy.
I’m sure that they’re more points. But that’s all I can think of for now. ;w;
Emmet
I feel like he wasn’t necessarily the best when it comes to speaking any other language than German.
But don’t worry, he learned how to speak English, as you can clearly see. It just took a while for him to get the hang of it.
I assume everyone in that German-based region has some kind of German accent too, which would include him when he was there.
But the reason why he came to the Unova region would be in question, so it’s either that he always wanted to explore other regions (with trains).
Or there’s just no trains in his region, along with any college or university about it. But they have that in the Unova region. So yeah.
Ingo
I imagine him knowing how to speak both English and German well. Maybe he can speak other languages because he’s smart.
And it’s probable that he has a German accent, and he might’ve kept it when he was in the Unova region. Unlike Emmet, kinda.
For the reason why he went to the Unova region, it might be because he wanted to go somewhere that has a lot of trainers or just live in a big region.
Or there were just barely any trains in his home region, so he had to go to the Unova region to get a job there. (Or for college/university reasons).
Heck, even when he started living in the Unova region, he still thinks about his hometown. Like his childhood and shit.
