Shame

I’m ashamed of who I am, of who I love. I wish it was easy, and I wish I could just be normal, but I never will. I don’t think I’ll ever love a man the way I love a woman. I can’t appreciate a man’s ruggedness and aggression. Maybe it stems from my father, or maybe it's my nature. A girl is who I can love, and sometimes I’m ashamed because society won’t view me the same. A girl has soft features or sharp ones, no matter what, they are kind. Not all women are sweet and soft. Some are strong and brave, and I love both. Women care about the little details and big ones. I’m glad I can experience what it’s like to love a woman, but I’m disappointed in society and my loved ones that they will not accept that I will marry a woman. I’ll always be an outcast because for some people, one of their biggest fears is love, a love that is shared between the same sex. It’s sad that so many people fear their loved ones may love the same gender. It’s sad they are afraid of love.

It had been a while since Sumi entered the café doors and took residence in one of the establishment's booths. Akira paced himself with various store duties, tidying the back storage area in case any customers happened upon the place looking for a bite to eat. Coffee sat unattended at the moment until some languid patron strolled in craving a hot, satisfying drink. All in all, the teenage barista properly prepared himself for a solo café run should someone decide to stop inside. So far no one, other than the first-year gymnast, showed their face. Another slow day, it seemed. Quite common around these parts of Yogen-Jaya.

"Well...considering you arrived here about an hour after opening and it's currently..." He rolled up his sleeve to check the time, slightly grimacing as a sudden realization simultaneously hit him square in the face. Both of them missed lunch. "...ah...I see." That's not good, but then again Akira was capable of surviving off two meals in a single day. Sometimes skipping lunch was necessary due to his ever-demanding school life schedule...and of course, being an unknown vigilante at the same time. However, it didn't sit right knowing Sumire skimped out on feeding herself. This wouldn't do in his book, and not during his café time.

"Why don't you give yourself a bit of a break for now? Take a good half hour and let that little noggin of yours rest." After tucking the broom away behind the kitchen sink, Akira returned to the front countertop pulling out a freshly clean plate from below. "I can whip up some curry for us in the meantime. Brain power is fueled by satisfied stomachs, you know."

My husband makes the best homemade noodles/dumpins I've ever had. He doesn't do anything complicated. Or technically special/different. They're always just, amazing. Thick. Absorb the soup flavor so well. Just. Delicious.

Side note. I've had the Palia underground music stuck in my head since 6pm yesterday, which began with me becoming aware that I was humming it while showering and it has been in the Brain Background ever since.

Wagyu prime rib with a beef fat and maple gravy. Served with garlic and fennel roasted potatoes and carrots, and toasted brioche. Made this with my best friend! Shot on Fujifilm x-t30. @revenege helped me make it!
