Every mainline Pokemom! They deserve some love, and I wanted to try drawing more than just my fave, Johanna. I also gave them all names! I think they deserve to have some names, even if it's just a first name. But I also put in way too much thought for the last names, so you get those too, lol. Explanations for the names are below the cut!

I still think it's funny that Johanna and Grace are the only ones with canon names, and Caroline apparently only has her's in the anime.

Wait wait wait, time out. She...bought you a Sharpedo? As your first pokemon??? Has- has SHE ever had a pokemon before? Have you ever expressed interest in raising a Sharpedo? Where the hell did she go where they were just SELLING SHARPEDO???? I have so. So many questions. Anon, if she didn't get this pokemon from a certified breeder or a shelter, PLEASE look into the legality of wherever she got it from, there are VERY FEW places that will just sell fully-grown pokemon to someone, much less one as care-intensive as a Sharpedo.

That being said, it sounds like you want to make sure this pokemon is happy and healthy regardless, which is a good thing to want! There's a few basic standards of care to establish first- food, habitat, and trust.

Luckily, food is by far the easiest part of caring for a Sharpedo. Sharpedo, unlike their juvenile pre-evos, are obligate carnivores- which means they NEED to eat a diet of primarily meat in order to live. Outside of this requirement, though, they're some of the least picky eaters I know. You should keep them primarily on a seafood diet, and you can feed them any fish you want. There's standard water-type carnivore food they sell at the Pokemart, if you're able to get them fresh fish you can feed them almost anything, but in my experience their favorites are Lanturn, Veluza, Lumineon, Squirtle, and Wishiwashi fry- you don't even need to get stuff from an aquarist, you can just buy some fish at the store. Any seafood that's safe for a human is more than safe for a Pokemon. You can also feed them land meat, but most kinds tends to have much higher fat content than their natural diet of fish. Keep burgers and fried Combusken for occasional treats, rather than their main diet. Try not to let them eat wild pokemon, either. It may be tempting to let them just act on their instincts, but you cannot possibly know if that wild Lanturn it just ate had parasites or a communicable disease. If it eats one anyway, get it to a pokemon center asap to be screened.

For their habitat, you'll ideally want access to the ocean. If you're worried about them swimming off- don't be, they can go really fast, but only in short bursts. You should be able to keep up with them on foot. If that's not an option and they don't have a ball, consider getting them one, it'll make it a lot easier to train them. If you don't have access to the ocean, you will at LEAST need access to a clean body of water large enough for them to go full speed for a while- a quarter to a half mile long in either direction. They can zoom around on land too, but vastly prefer the water. That's just for enrichment, you won't be keeping them there while you're at home. If you have them in a ball there's a lot of habitat building you can gloss over, but as a matter of good husbandry you'll still need a saltwater tank for them to rest in. If they only swim in freshwater, they can swell up and get sick, if you keep them on land for more than 8 hours a day they'll shrivel up and get sick from dehydration. You'll need, minimally, a 500 gallon saltwater tank. Remember, this is a pokemon roughly the size of a grown adult, even if a lot of the height and width is just fins. You could maaaaaybe get away with 400 gallons, but it's gonna be tight. At the very least you won't need to worry about tank decoration. Aside from substrate/sand/gravel, you at least won't need to worry about decorating the tank. Sharpedo isn't that concerned with having hides or rock, they're more content to just swim around aimlessly. If you don't have the room or access to a tank like this, a lot of aquarists and aquariums have spaces for people to let their friends recharge in the water- but this is usually for people who are travelling and are away from their usual tank, not for people who live in the area and don't have a tank.

The hardest part, more difficult than finding the space for your Sharpedo, is building trust. The most common way trainers will build trust with their Sharpedo is by raising them from a Carvanha, but you unfortunately don't have that kind of luxury. And depending on where your mom got this pokemon, you could be at an even worse disadvantage, potentially having received a pokemon that has already learned to be wary of people. The first thing you'll need is a lot of patience. It takes a lot of time for even a wild Sharpedo to trust a human, but once you have that bond they're fiercely loyal. Despite their reputation as fearsome violent killers, they're generally a lot more curious or energetic than they are malicious. At the very least, their 'bloodlust' tends to be pretty well sated after a filling meal. I don't know how your Sharpedo will react to you, but here's my advice for getting it to trust you. Firstly: Don't touch it. I mean it, do not touch this pokemon unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO, and if you DO have to, wear gloves, and do it fast. Sharpedo skin will absolutely tear your palms to shreds if you aren't wearing any protective gear, and getting your hands in biting range of an already-stressed predator is a very good way to lose your fingers. Actually building that trust is going to depend a lot on what your Sharpedo's personality is. More energetic and aggressive natures will want to spend a lot of time doing things- battle training, agility courses, learning tricks, whatever. The more quiet and contemplative ones will just need time, there's not much you can do there except calmly spend time in their vicinity, feed them, and regularly bring them places where they can zoom around in the water to their heart's content. My own Sharpedo didn't really see me as someone worth trusting until after I had already won two badges with them- not all Sharpedo will be like that, but most of the stories I've heard from other trainers have had that similar thread of taking a looooot of time and effort until they truly trust you enough to exhibit that loyalty and comfort.

I just dumped like eight paragraphs worth of advice here, but I'm barely scratching the surface. For sure take this Sharpedo to the pokemon center to make sure they're up to date on their innoculations and see if there's any medical issues to be aware of, bring your new friend to a local aquarist to get a one-on-one professional opinion, spend time with your Sharpedo as an individual and pay attention to their likes and dislikes. They're far from mindless killing machines, they're complex, intelligent creatures with a discerning eye and sharply honed instincts. If you find yourself unable to care for your Sharpedo and are unable to find a friend or trainer able and willing to care for it in your stead, make sure whatever shelter you bring it to IS prepared to care for it- though I do still encourage you to try caring for it, anywhere that will just...sell pokemon FOR MONEY without any real vetting process will probably not leave their pokemon with strong senses of trust or very good mental health. Please care for this Sharpedo as best you can, and see what in arceus' name your mom was THINKING when she picked this up, holy hell.

an oc whos existed for a while but ive never mentioned......she's a wallace fankid (obviously lol) i gave him a depressed sleeping around era so it felt natural to give him an oopsie doopsie kid. mom is a coordinator from kalos, they met at a thing in sinnoh and......got along very well ; D

in her lil au, mom can't raise her bc of financial reasons, so she ends up being raised by wallace. she'd be about 8 or 9 by the game events

She'd probably keep a bunch of them unevolved (except for Turtwig, she loves Torterra), overall El doesn't dislike starter Pokemon but she often has troubles forming true connections with them. She usually develops a MUCH stronger bond with the first few Pokemon she catches herself in a region, like her Vivillon Mjoki or her main partner pokemon in Alola, her Oricorio Sweets!

I put some thought into these choices as well, as just like the first team I put together, I appreciate how @tjs-stuffs analyzes different pokemon trainers’ teams to see what it says about them.

Dawn’s Pokemon team choices and reasonings why are listed below.

LADY ♀ | LVL 43 PURUGLY

SASSY NATURE

Akari/Dawn’s “starter”. Dawn did not get a lab-provided starter pokemon as she did not follow that path and begin a journey at ten. So her starter was one of her mom’s pokemon; her (at the time) glameow was her pokemon that Dawn was closest to, and her pokemon most experienced with contests, and so Johanna gave Lady to Dawn as her first pokemon to start doing contests with.

There isn’t anything about the Glameow line that really lends itself to Dawn’s character, but due to the anime I know people are aware that Johanna has a glameow, so I wanted Dawn to have one to cement that connection a little.

BLINK ♀ | LVL 41 LUMINEON

ADAMANT NATURE

As a wild finneon it was familiar with Dawn, friendly with her when she was little, and hung around when she’d play by the ponds near her town. Lucas helped her catch it as she wanted a water pokemon to be with her when starting a team; she was not a strong swimmer. A buizel was suggested for this, but Dawn wanted her childhood friend.

The Lumineon line is noted to attract its prey by lingering in the dark and using its bioluminescence to draw them in, but this very same light will attract its own predators too. This was a characteristic that made me want to put it on her Hisui Team — her “light” is what brought her her opportunities in Hisui, but it was also what caught Volo’s attention and made him turn on her.

In the end Mantine won over Lumineon, but I still wanted Dawn to have one for the similarities, so I put one on her Pre-Hisui team.

CORAL ♀ | LVL 40 GOREBYSS

ADAMANT NATURE

Dawn’s first Pokémon caught outside of Sinnoh, when on a trip to Hoenn with her mom to do her first contest with her. It was beached and needed help. She caught it, and Lucas later traded with her to help it evolve — she went with Gorebyss as she thought it was pretty and would pair very well with Blink in contests.

There is not much about Gorebyss that connects it to Dawn’s character. Rather, I made the pick based on Dawn’s preferences for a Pokemon that might do well and look nice in contests.

SHERBET ♂ | LVL 45 BEARTIC

LAX NATURE

Dawn’s second pokemon that came from outside of Sinnoh, on a trip with her mother to do a musical in Unova. Johanna had actually caught it as a cubchoo when Dawn was very young as she had met and gotten attached to it. It was not much a fan of participating in contests, however. Johanna traded it to Dawn when she began to show an interest in battling, as it was much more invested in battles and wanted to go with her.

While there is not much to connect it to Dawn with, I picked the cubchoo line as I saw that they were a pokemon actually mentioned by name in PLA, despite not actually being present in the game. I liked the PLA connection to a non-PLA pokemon.

ALLOY | LVL 43 BRONZONG

MODEST NATURE

Dawn’s first pokemon she caught herself after considering turning away from coordinating to be a trainer. Caught as a bronzor, it had been attracted to her location after watching her training attempts in Mt. Coronet’s caves. It was inspired and wanted to join her team to train with her.

I picked the Bronzor line as Bronzong are pokemon noted to have come from ancient times, 2,000 years ago, and were supposedly revered for its powers to open portals from other worlds to bring rain and help crops thrive. I thought it was fitting seeing as Dawn went back around 200 years instead, and came through a “portal” with people believing she had something special about her.

NANO | LVL 27 ROTOM

QUIRKY NATURE

Dawn’s last Pokemon she added to her team. A rotom was a Pokemon she’d wanted for a while — at first for coordinating, due to its ability to change into many different forms, and then for its versatility in battle; it could serve well in both categories — and after training her team up a little more, she went out in search of one. So she tracked it down in the Old Chateau. It took multiple attempts over many nights to catch it.

I picked Rotom for Dawn’s team because a Rotom is one of the most versatile and adaptable pokemon out there, able to switch between many forms with no permanence or final decisions. Dawn is supposed to be someone who can adapt to fit many different situations; it’s how she survives in Hisui. And even before Hisui, she was balancing options as both a trainer and a coordinator — neither option was “set” for her, just like how a rotom’s forms are not set (unlike eevee or milcry; while they also have many different variations, all of them are final and cannot be undone).

Randy approached the two women, who were locked in a tight hug. He smiled sadly as he stood back, waiting for his chance to initiate the moment he had been dreading.

Of course, Akoya dear. Anything for you all. She and Akoya backed away from each other. It's been an absolute blast having you here! And Persim, it's been wonderful to meet you and your little one. You remember how to help her with her injury, yes?

The orange Mew nodded. His mental voice rang in Randy's head, as he was sure was true for his mother as well. I got it, Viv. We'll take good care of her. I promise! He was glad that his brother-in-law had gotten comfortable enough to communicate with Viv, even if what had led to it had been... unfavorable.

Viv met Persim's eyes warmly, knowing full well that he wouldn't allow a hug from her, especially with little Rosemary buried in his pelt. Randy could see her tiny face peeking out, glaring daggers at his mom. He made a silent promise to her that they would return one day, and Rosie would see just how great Viv was.

But for now, he really couldn't blame her for the hatred.

Thanks, Gramma Vivi. I've had so much fun! The small Mewtwo wrapped her arms around Viv's neck.

Viv chuckled. Me too, Lav! I can't wait for us to get together again! Don't let it be half a decade again, okay? Pester your daddy into making it happen sooner. I'm sure you can convince him.

Her sly eyes met Randy's as Lav pulled back.

Oh, it won't be hard. She's a master at convincing me to do things.

Lav gave a sheepish grin as her dad looked at her.

He turned back to his mom.

The Linden Mew family perched on a cliff by the ocean's side. Memories of their previous over-seas flight buzzed in Randy's head, causing him to hesitate.

He barely had a chance to register the flash of blue by his side when he felt her hand in his. He turned to her.

No words, by mouth or mind, were needed. Her rich sapphire eyes told him what he needed to know.

We're with you. We'll get through this together.

His anxious gaze softened, and he turned to his other side to meet Persim's eyes. The orange Mew nodded with a smile. Rosemary peered at the vast sea from her father's hand. Lav, holding the bag that contained the twins, gave her own dad a reassuring nod.

Randy took a deep breath, letting it out in a long sigh, before leaping from the ground.

Beginning their flight back home.

And with that, the trip to Hoenn is over. I won't go over the return home--we don't need anymore harrowing events for them. X3

I don't think it really matters, but my intention was that the trip lasted about two weeks (Running roughly from Aug. 6th to 20th) in-universe. I had wanted for it to be two IRL weeks, but... I went over how that didn't work out!

I got an Alcremie (Rainbow Swirl Love Sweet Form)! She was a gift from my mom to help around in the bakery. She's very sweet (both literally and figuratively) and I want to be able to learn how to take good care of her! Do different forms of Alcremie have different needs that I need to be aware of? They've got like probably 100 forms so I need to know the needs of this one in particular!

because the color and flavor of an alcremie's cream is the result of a very slight structural difference brought on at evolution, the different forms don't have different needs from each other in terms of being able to thrive as happy, healthy pokemon. you can use the standard care requirements for alcremie for all of the cream types; the sweets are merely a cosmetic difference and have no impact on their care either.

that being said, if your alcremie is going to help you bake, the food you give her can influence the purity of her cream's flavor. there are definitely more specific diets you can give alcremie based on their cream type to help bring out the specific qualities of their cream. of course, experienced alcremie keepers can help you with this better than i can, but i've heard that starf berries and heritage varieties of lum berries grown in hoenn are good supplements for rainbow swirl alcremie's diet!

Well I’m not the one that come up with it. What about “Hoenn”? I can think of plenty of jokes with that name.

“Ash, do you have any idea what time it is?”

Ash winces and looks at the clock on his RotomPhone to do some quick math that he doesn’t quite figure out. “Oops,” he says, and he can practically hear Misty roll her eyes over the phone, but at least she doesn’t hang up. “I always forget about time zones.”

“Where are you guys?” she asks, good naturedly, so Ash assumes he’s forgiven.

“Somewhere in Hoenn.” He looks around at the trees and wilderness around him, like it would actually help him remember. “Near Petalburg I think. I saw a wurmple and it made me think of you.”

“Eww, thanks a lot,” she gags, and Ash can’t help but laugh imagining her face all scrunched up in disgust.

He settles back on his sleeping bag, resting his back against the log he had managed to roll over by the fire to sit on earlier in the evening. Pikachu snores softly next to him and he idly runs his fingers through his fur as he talks. “I’m headed to Alola soon,” he tells her.

“Ooh!” she says, immediately perking up. “What’s going on out there?”

“It’s almost league season, so I have to go defend my title against whoever wins this year.” It’s a weird feeling, already being the champion of a league and not being allowed to enter. “You should come!” he adds casually, like it wasn’t the entire reason for this phone call—inviting Misty to join him.

Misty sighs loudly. “Oh man, I would love to go, trust me, but my sisters… I swear, they nearly got us shut down again the last time I left to see you. They gave away so many badges and didn’t keep up on cleaning…”

“Aw c’mon. It’ll only be a week! The whole Alola gang will be there, you can hang out with Lana! And oh man, wait until you see how big Lei has gotten, he’s huge! Burnet sent my mom a picture.”

Misty groans, which means Ash’s peer pressure is probably working and she’s mad at herself for giving in, which makes Ash grin to himself. “You’re trying to get me fired, aren’t you?” she asks, and Ash laughs.

“If it means you’d be able to travel with me more.”

Misty snorts, and when he listens carefully, he can hear the tap tap tap of her fingers on her computer keyboard. “When is the opening ceremony?” she asks tiredly.

Ash pumps his fist in the air and gives her all the details so she can buy her tickets.
