News around the city is that the Goths Family Apartment in San Myshuno, gifted to them by Vita Alto, has had movers going in and out. With Mortimer's Goth publishing company going public, Bella's brother ,Michael, purchasing the city's baseball team, and Landgraab Industries having a shareholders meeting, could they be looking at making this their permanent residence?

again so sorry im still on gladiator 2 but i cant stop thinking abt it (derogatory). it shows exactly the type of surface level "progress" we made in the last 2 decades. literally gladiator but "woke" as conservatives think of it bc that racial diversity n inclusion of lgbt characters is entirely surface level n covers up existing racism, eurocebtrism n homophobia.
they try to show rome as a brutal imperialist force spanning 3 continents for exactly 10 minutes, and then forget about it. no more discussion of imperialism and its consequences on both colonized ppl n colonizers. the message is 'rome is an empire built upon the blood of enslaved n colonized ppl. it could b good tho. it could b a REPUBLIC built upon the blood of enslaved n colonized ppl #progress'.
they were characters who were explicitly mentioned to enjoy n seek out gay sex, but these characters were either not shown or the villains. the brothers were rly effeminate as well to show how theyre morally corrupt, as one does when they try to present men as decadent, corrupt and morally reprehensible.
not to mention the whitewashing of the brothers. he tried to push as many poc into the plot as he could but whitewashed the two emperors that were arab irl. insane. all the main characters of color in the movie, esp the ones played by black actors, were either currently or formerly enslaved. he tried to be as "inclusive" as he could, but failed to imagine a past in europe where the emperor is arab and black ppl r anything but enslaved? even tho that past did exist? what kind of progress is that?

But Alexander, having come to the temple of Ammon, asked the god whether he was the ruler of all men. And the priest, gazing at him, replied: 'Not only of men, O son of Zeus, but of the gods as well.'

Did a little sketch of Percival Greene. Without spoiling too much, he plays a major role in the book I am currently writing. I think I captured his arrogance well

The Liberation of Palestine and the Rights of Indigenous Americans: The Same Struggle
Tumblr media
532 years ago, America was "discovered" by Europeans for the first time. What resulted from this fateful day was nothing short of a genocide. Millions systemically displaced and killed, cultures destroyed, and ecosystems irreparably altered to accommodate the European colonizers at the expense of the people who lived there. In both the United States and Canada, remaining indigenous populations face massive societal discrimination and are victim to underfunding and exploitation from the governments of their respective states. Many are forced into poverty, underfunded reservations, and horrid living conditions. Sound similar?
The genocide in Gaza and the expansion of the Israeli settler state is almost completely congruent to the history of violence experienced by indigenous Americans. Both the Palestinian liberation struggle and the Land Back movement in the US are inherently interwined in their ideals and histories, and any anti-imperialist should recognize the victory of these struggles as fundamental to the development of equality and liberty for the oppressed.
Solidarity with Palestine and Solidarity with the First Nation's People forever. No freedom, no peace, on stolen land.

#its so interesting to watch disinformation spread on the internet. and i mean through communities of very online people. not thru offline#ppl who just dont understand how the internet works. its so strange. like if you say something with enough conviction and if you have enough#online clout you can warp reality around your mistruths. its like that succession line im misremembering. you dont predict the future u say#things and the ppl around you scramble to make them true. and bc no one actually cares or has their own bias they never try to understand#the situation. and its so hard for me to tell where the reason behind that misinformation orignates. is it knowing lies to insight#harrassment? a huge distortion of perspective thru ego and echo chamber? or actually being a total moron? its so strange#i dunno. the internet is also very strange in that people as a collective are absolutely incapable of handling conversations that are even a#little bit complicated. you see it all over the place but its especially apparent when you watch live stream chatters flip the fuck out when#a streamer says something they disagree with even a little bit or theyre charitable to opposing perspectives. and its so baffling to me bc#everything in life is complicated and its insane to not want to interact with that even a little bit. so you end up with creators who r#audience captured bc they're afraid of upsetting ppl and that pushes communities to be unempathetic and hostile#and ready to devour anyone who doesnt meet the standards of their rigid purity test. and. in some particularly unhinged circumstances#streamers and particular member of their audiences will ensite hate under the guise of pretending to care about historic tragedies ongoing#in the world. like bro just bc u feel u have the moral high ground on one particular point does not mean u r completely immune from all#criticism and u can say truely horrifc shit abt something else and allow ur chat to be really gross. ur using the death of children to#deflect criticism wtf is happening? and again its not a clean situation. its messy. good and bad things r happening in these communities but#like there is so much content being pushed out that its almost impossible to keep track of if u arent terminally online so normies just hear#things that may or may not be true and make a black and white judgment on it. and then u get this bloated backlash based on misinfo bc#someone has a louder voice in a particular space. its madness. very interesting to watch it play out in a kind of disgusting way.#and someday there will be this empty record of an internet war no one cares abt anymore. so strange. anyway. terrible things happening in#the communities of streamers. if the internet does anythinf well its magnifying hate to obscene levels#unrelated

now that I'm thinking about it some more, because... it's ultimately always this, the weird disjoint in the ways diff communities are talking abt shit like dei and rainbow capitalism and the old chestnut of slur discourse and even y'all's approaches to actions like boycotts and protest IS because all of you continually want to crib from black americans' notes with zero comprehension, having done none of the reading, and with a funky attitude and superiority complex, while also demanding an unearned inner sense of moral purity/condemnation of others on top of demanding to be fucking liked in the process.

One day when the chores get down early and Cato is healthy enough to be out about, Elijah takes his siblings to a nearby park. The twins play on the monkey bars and Elijah pushes Daphne on the swing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After taking a break from the swing, Daphne and Elijah sit down and talk. It's not long before Daphne notices a classmate heading their way, she excitingly waves at them.
Tumblr media
It's Cela! She surprised to find out Daphne and Cela are sibling but happy to see them both. Daphne tells Elijah that Cela will sometimes help the teacher and has become sort of a mentor toward Daphne and her friends.
Tumblr media
The three of them talk amongst each other. Elijah is able to hear what's going on back at the school, while Cela and Daphne find out more of Elijah's job and the fish market.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It isn't long before Daphne gets bored with the conversation and starts to mess around with her brother. Cela laugh about it, seeing the siblings play around. While Elijah finds himself a little embarrassed but decides it's worth it for the girls' smiles.
Tumblr media
Cela admits that she can't stay for long and needs to start heading home, Elijah manages to convince Cela to at least let him walk her halfway home. After telling his siblings to stay in the park the two of them head their way. It's a nice walk and Elijah finds himself enjoying Cela's company more than ever.

just finished this book called Homes for Living because when something is profiled in BOTH hell gate (paywalled) and culture study you KNOW it’s for me. it’s an oral history of resident votes to take two separate apartment complexes out of their affordable ownership program (Mitchell-Lama) and into the private market. basically, people who had bought their apartments outright for in the low tens of thousands of dollars were voting on whether they would keep having to sell them for a small profit amounting to inflation to keep them affordable, or be allowed to sell them for whatever the market would bear, up over a million dollars for some of the Manhattan apartments. privatization would make them a lot of money, but it would end permanent affordability and force out current residents who would be unable to keep up with higher taxes and maintenance once the state stopped offering them sweetheart terms to maintain affordability.
and I thought the arguments by the pro-privatization side are SO indicative of how american politics makes the status quo seem inevitable, common sense, nonideological. the pro-privatizers argue that privatized, commodified housing (in markets backed by the state….though they don’t say this) is just natural while decommodified housing is unnatural, inherently ideological, and “crazy.” they say that if the state can tell you what to do with your apartment, you don’t really own it - never mind that there’s all kinds of rules on other housing; regulation of single-family homes because of building codes and taxes are just natural but any additional regulation is “political” and unnatural. they repeatedly claim that Mitchell-Lama apartments were always designed to be privatized (they weren’t), assuaging any guilt they might feel for basically stealing a public good by claiming it was inevitable. oh ursula le guin capitalism and the divine right of kings quote we’re really in it now
