Things the Doctor Might Fear Because They Killed Previous Incarnations
1 > 2: The cold? Exhaustion? Cybermen? 2 faces Cybermen a lot, so maybe not that last one.
2 > 3: His Own People, losing companions in tragic circumstances (4 basically abandons Sarah Jane so the Time Lords can't get her, so this goes on for a while)
3 > 4: Spiders, radiation poisoning
4 > 5: Heights
5 > 6: Toxins, caring too much for Peri, losing Peri after all he went through to save her
6 > 7: Honestly I'm still not sure what happened here. Exercise bikes?
7 > 8: Medical procedures gone wrong, guns, Dark and Stormy Nights
8 > War: War probably felt very deliberately created by 8, instead of the result of his death, so idk
War > 9: Okay, this one just sort of happened, so I have no idea.
9 > 10: The powerful forces within the TARDIS, His Own Feelings
10 > 11: Radiation again, Even More of His Own Feelings
11 > 12: Old age maybe, but he regenerated into an older man...
12 > 13: Cybermen (the Doctor already has so many issues with Cybermen that I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make)
13 > 14: Giant Fucking Lasers
Feel free to add your own lol.

I'd contribute a tiny bit to the pro-Zutara side when it comes to the idea of Katara in the role of a co-ruler of the Fire Nation.
I understand where the negative arguments are coming from, how it's especially "shocking" if she enters the royal family (one which led the oppressive regime which waged war for 100 years and caused so much devastation);
however, firstly it is really no longer that family. Zuko committed high treason, almost died TRICE for that and still kept steady on that course, rejected his family, the family's terrible ideas about the world and both Ozai and Azula were imprisoned. Nobody supporting the old ways is still there. I don't understand negative arguments which treat Zuko's early background, lineage, political role (which may be incredibly undefined as the entire nation is being restructured, it's fantasy) as a more important factor than him as a person. He treats others with respect after undergoing redemption, he's demonstrably empathetic, he's working on undoing as much damage the Fire Nation has caused as possible, he was ready to die for these things. Secondly, why should a job or a title in a fantasy setting be a more relevant argument than love? If love was real and strong: if there's mutual respect between two people, understanding, cooperation, splitting of tasks, mutual care, communication on how to tackle problems, this is much more important and holds more weight than whether or not a role granting political power is from this or that side.
From what I've seen, the dominant headcanon for Zutara is that it wouldn't be oppressive to her but instead allow her to affect the world. It makes sense, most people want their favourite characters to be happy - AND there's no canonical evidence to suggest that being a co-ruler of the new Fire Nation would be a terrible, oppressive, restrictive position. Sure, there can also be headcanons where duty to other parts of the world might be too heavy and they split Zuko and Katara up, but this is a Tragedy trope and it only exists when there's incredibly strong love between them underneath this. So even this argument ends up supporting zutara.
I think that any arguments that use outside reasons why their relationship would be terrible are in the end much weaker in philosophy, compared to arguments about whether or not there are strong feelings between them. This is fantasy, love is an incredibly powerful force. And audience wants to believe in the power of love.
Now, if you ask me, I'd say I believe two characters absolutely do not need to have an on-screen kiss or anything completely explicit in order to convey that yes, they have deep feelings for each other. Shipping comes down to preferences, many people certainly simply Do Not Vibe with Zuko as a personality or whatever. However, this is a separate thing from what the characters are written as doing, how they are behaving in each other's company and how they treat each other.
So I'd say, if Katara loves Zuko (and vice-versa), then that's fullstop. Anything else is just an obstacle in their way which they'd tackle together.

Broken Roofs and Fixed Perspectives
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#xue yang#xiao xingchen#Lots of cut content notes on this one. Lets all have a moment of silence for all the cut A-Qing's in each perspective.#particularly ripped and buff 'Daozhang Defender 'A-Qing (her perspective)#funny but poor layout#XY also had a red arrow pointed at him in his own POV that said 'just troubled' but it made the panel too cluttered.#He does see himself as troubled and uses that to justify his actions#but I also think there is room for him to not really know exactly how to feel about himself in this situation#Yi-city is such a fantastic tragedy for so many reasons and you will bear witness to me rambling about it in the tags as this arc continues#Helping a blind man fix a roof? A manipulative act of building trust or genuine display of wanting to collaberate?#XY and A-qing have experience of the cruelty of the world where as xxc has blind (haha) faith that kindness prevails#These three simultaneous know each other more than the other's think and *yet* completely miss the mark.#the stories they tell in the blizzard (and the reactions they have) so perfectly display who these characters are#Both xxc and xy tell stories about unfair cruelty. To xxc it is others who's suffering is highlighted. XY highlight's his own.#A-qing understands xue yang more that she wants to admit. She predicts the twists in xy's story and empathizes with the hurt and anger#A-qing is also taking advantage of xxc! She is also lying to survive!#Though shes mostly benign in her intentions. She really did vibe check the rank stank on XY's soul on the spot#Alas...no one listens to teen girls....

I know that technically when a god dies they die completely, unable to reenter the cycle of life and death, but the way a god dies is by all their believers abandoning them. Shi Wudu was decapitated by He Xuan, but I don’t think that necessarily destroyed his following. After the main series, it’s plausible for Shi Wudu to reform (whether as a god or a ghost) out of devotion and love for his brother, now with the purpose to save Shi Qingxuan from his inevitable death.

bonefall said GET BEHIND ME WINDCLAN. EXCEPT CROWFEATHER GO FUCK YOURSELF.
WINDCLAN is full of amazing cats!!
Breezepelt has a well-written descent into the Dark Forest because of his abuse and social isolation, a victim of some of the most realistic radicalization ever depicted in the entire series!
Onestar and his souring relationship to Firestar is painful and compelling, a dramatic story about how power acts on people that ends with the tragic conclusion that friendship alone can't survive against intense social pressure!
Crowfeather
Hawkheart is a nuanced character whose perception massively changes based on who he's interacting with, working perfectly as a misplaced source of anger for Bluefur when the real evil was the violence in Clan culture!

I need to point something out about the Krew’s conversation with Torbek in episode 19.
Kremy—a man who likes to keep up appearances and appear larger than life, who relies on his silver tongue to spin his words into lies and half-truths—let himself appear as vulnerable to Torbek as Torbek was after the fight.
Because Kremy took off his coat and his tie (Richie made a point to both say that and make the motions as he was describing what Kremy was doing), before getting on Torbek’s level and seeing if there was anything on Torbek’s person that could explain what just happened, before noticing everything else that was off.
Kremy taking off his coat and tie is actually kinda significant, considering that shortly after, he (eventually) agrees to tell Torbek the truth about what happened, and even willingly spoke up to fill in what Gricko was missing in his explanation. Kremy was, metaphorically, letting his walls down and letting Torbek see him in a way that I imagine even Frost and Gricko rarely see (maybe outside of sleeping or bathing).
I mean, of course, Kremy immediately puts his walls back up the following day, and then acts like he is somehow above Torbek for the remainder of the season (which I hope he cuts it out early S2), but…it’s a step. It’s a step in the right direction for Kremy’s arc, and I can’t believe I didn’t even take too much of a notice in this—or anything the gator did—until I started rewatching the series and genuinely started looking into Kremy’s character more.
And of course Kremy’s whole interaction with Torbek this episode isn’t the only significant one, and i promise I’m not ignoring the others (in fact, I’m actually quite interested in the way Frost handled the combat, as well as the way he separated himself from Torbek afterwards, and it will be making me pay extra close attention to Frost for the next few episodes), I just…don’t hear a lot about Kremy in particular this episode.

We as a fandom don’t talk enough about how Game of Thrones decided to combine Jon Snow and Young Griff into one character and how that was absolutely ridiculous on like 1000 different levels. Because how do you combine two characters who are FOILS to one another and then play it completely straight?! Then to make matters worse they gave Jon the boy’s stupid name?! Goddamnit I knew they didn’t get Jon as a character pretty early on, but why mesh his arc with the one guy you shouldn’t combine with? 😭

thoughts on Crow's character being reduced into Uldren-but-not-quite? I'm not happy with these past few weeks of dialogue, I feel like suddenly everyone treats Crow as just the guy that did those horrible things, and this week he's also taking responsibility for those actions *he did not take*. sure, his corpse did it, but wasn't a whole year of storyline based around the fact that Crow and Uldren are separate persons? why is every other character acting like none of that ever happened?
I don't think he's really being blamed for those things, it's more that he now has those memories and reacts to them in a distinctly Crow way. He's the type to take the responsibility for those things, even though it wasn't really him, but he remembers it all so in his mind, it's his problem.
It's actually a fairly complicated issue that is unique to Crow: how should Guardians who fully remember their past behave? Crow decided to make amends for things that his "past self" did, even though it's not him, because he remembers it so vividly and it bothers him. This doesn't mean that other people are pushing it on him; they're clearly not. Petra has numerous lines where she tells him that nothing Uldren did is on him, and so do other people. So I'm pretty sure they're not acting like it didn't happen, given that everyone is often reassuring him that he's not being blamed for Uldren.
But for Crow, he remembers doing those things. He didn't do them, but he remembers them and it bothers him. It's probably exceptionally difficult to think of yourself as not that guy when you have that guy's life in your head. I don't think people often consider how this must feel for Crow. He wasn't just told what Uldren did. He was given the full package directly into his head. Uldren's deeds aren't stories to Crow, they're effectively his life. A life of a stranger, but his life nonetheless.
Obviously, they could've gone with not giving him his memories back. But since they did, I think that Crow's behaviour (especially given how compassionate he is) makes sense. He remembers those things as his own, even though they're not his own, but he feels like he should be making amends for them. I think that's the crucial part of his arc; he knows what Uldren did, he acknowledges that it wasn't him, he KNOWS it wasn't him, but nobody else will make those amends and nobody else is working to fix those wrongs, so he feels responsible to do it.
That doesn't mean that the story is suddenly about Crow = Uldren; it's not. It's about Crow's choice. Crow isn't Uldren, but he's choosing not to ignore their connection even if he would be completely accepted if he did ignore it. I think that's what gives Crow's story an element worth exploring.

Fai breaks the tension by teasing Kurogane and Mokona immediately joins in, giving Lava Lamp a silent moment to internally process what’s just happened and how big this is for him. How he’s finally had his lifelong trauma listened to by the people he thought would judge him most, and instead just been openly accepted by them and shown genuine affection.
GOOD FOR HIM. HE DESERVES IT.
AFTER ALL THIS TIME, THIS POOR GUY.

And then he turns his thoughts to Watanuki, his other self, and hopes that Watanuki gets to have the same thing happen to him as well. Which is very loving, but rest assured Lava Lamp! Watanuki has his people too.

SHOUNEN PROTAGONIST: RESTORED
Oh but this is such a good summary, bringing it all back around to The Core of all his flashbacks. Now that he's confessed his greatest mistakes and everything he knows, he's been accepted and forgiven and can now finally move forward, continuing on to complete the actions he began so long ago.
This moment here in the Reservoir completes the circle of his life that has happened since his deal with Evil Wolverine: he's fully paid the price, lived out all the missing time, and has returned to the exact place and time he was in when the deal was made.
From here his plot to save Sakura can finally continue, after all this time!
And: END OF CHAPTER!

A-qing is such a tragic figure and i care her so much but one thing I love is this quiet character arc she has from a little girl doing what she has to do to survive, already more wordly and bitter than Xiao Xingchen even at her young age, a girl who isn't cruel but isn't here to help other people either, into genuinely a kind of guardian figure. After her death she sticks around and dedicates her non-life to protecting people, leading visitors away from Xue Yang and warning wwx and the juniors about him. And it works, in the end, without her they wouldn't have made it.
The yi city arc can seem so cynical sometimes. Idealism fails, helping a dying stranger by the side of the road only leads to tragedy, but a-qing cares and it helps! She's a counterpart to both xiao xingchen and song lan in that way, and thematically also a kind of counterpart to xue yang, where tragedy becomes a motivation for caring instead of against it. It's a weird thing to say since she's a kid that dies and her soul is shattered, but I think yi city would have come off a lot darker without her.

Literally all I want right now is a mdzs anime (donghua?) watching the series fic that reaches the start of the sun shot campaign PURELY so the juniors can see their kind and mischievous trophy husband Wei ying suddenly hair down tits out feeding his torturer his own fingers and proceeding to rack up the highest kill count of pretty much everyone while lwj looks ready to cry. I want them to know who the yiling patriarch is.
