He lets his mask slide off, to the tune of your heartbeat. Savoring its clank and all it entails. Your shock and fear taste delicious on his tongue as does your fruitless struggle. Did the man know the video would be broadcast to the world? Did he realize that his interaction in front of the drone’s lens would be seen by an entire nation? Absolutely not. Certainly not. Without a doubt, no.

When the protagonist of Thorns and Carnations threw his weapon at the invincible aircraft, it wasn’t to be admired or to set an example. Log of the Multiverse: Blazar (aka Blue(the original Blue))

Hello there, diary that isn't mine. The new Blue asked me to write about myself. Unfortunately, there's not much to write about.

My name should be a good place to start—my name's Blazar! Y'know, like the type of quasar. I was part of the Star Sanses with Dream and Ink. I don't actually remember what that was like, but I don't really care! I have a new life now as the protector of Underswap universes.

Nowadays, I don't have to do much to keep them safe since the biggest threats got the message by now that I'd kill them (or at least try) if they tried harming these universes. Oh, but ERROR, how I HATE him. He's so STUBBORN he doesn't know when to QUIT.

But it's not his fault for being that way! Don't judge him too harshly. That's my job.

I guess I should explain why I hate him so much. Well! He's the reason I'm like this. The reason why I can't even remember ANYTHING from my past the reason I don't have a place to call home the reason my own FRIENDS don't RECOGNIZE ME ANYMORE the reason people think I'M threatening I'M NOT I'M NOT DANGEROUS I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU STOP SCREAMING STOP RUNNING AWAY I'M NOT THE THREAT HERE HE IS. So I always meant to do a little meta about Rayla and sleep (aka sleeps sitting up in S4, lying down but fully dressed + with her weapons in S5 — and now in PJs without weapons in s6) and it never happened (to my memory), but it did make me think about how I wanted to talk about Callum's whole thing with sleep in S6, namely how bad it is, as well as a bit about Viren and Rayla by proxy.

So in S6 we see Callum have two nightmares (the pearl sleepwalking nightmare and dark magic nightmare, shall we see) in 6x01 and 6x03. He wakes up once in 6x01 and then stays awake all night coming up with the decoy plan and sewing the anti magic blanket. He's still seemingly catching up on sleep days later in 6x03, with Rayla letting him just as she did before, and he has his second nightmare. In the Frozen Ship he struggles to sleep at first because of the cold, as he won't share the blanket, and then wakes up again naturally in the night, but won't let himself kiss Rayla. All except the cold is ultimately rooted in Callum's concerns over Aaravos and his susceptibility to Aaravos because of dark magic.

We see this sleeplessness and concern return in 6x06 as well, before it's 'resolved' (for the season). This nightmare and restlessness is something Viren experienced a bit of in S4 (namely 4x07), but we see it more consistently in S6, specifically with nightmares and fears of Aaravos using him as well, him waking up fitfully twice in 6x05:

Most of this fits with other aspects of the series. Dark magic causes you to fall into a coma-like state that persisted even once Viren 'woke up,' the comas themselves involve nightmares / tormented dreams, and Janai directly cites Aaravos' influence over them (5x03, 5x09): "Aaravos taunts me in my dreams with visions of destruction and despair" (6x02). Dark magic and sleep can both be associated with death, and are both interwoven with passing out, the actual possession, Aaravos' hold over you being a canonical fate worse than death (restful eternal sleep), hence why both Viren and Callum choose it over continued control.

The thing that I thought was interesting that was not only how frequent is Callum's lack of rest in S6, after seasons of routinely sleeping fairly well, as an overarching consequence leftover from 5x08 and everything going on... but also that his insomnia isn't exclusively because of Aaravos or dark magic guilt either, as in Viren's case, but also (more positively) because of his bond with Rayla.

Of course to begin, there's the subtext that Callum feels safe sleeping beside / around her (your partner should give you rest from the horrors of the world, etc etc, particularly with her continued opposition to Aaravos' hold on Callum that S6 is going to make direct text after seasons of subtext). But in the vein of Rayla's hold on Callum being 1) equally powerful and 2) can overlap with more circumstantial qualities (sometimes good, sometimes bad) for his.

For example, Callum is sleepless in 6x05 because he's trying to figure out the ice heart spell in order to defeat the 'behemoth':

We later learn (though myself and many others already suspected) that his fixation on it through the night was because he knew the reward for defeating the 'monster' would be quasar diamonds, and he wanted them for Rayla's family.

Then, just as 6x06 opens with Callum being sleepless, the episode also closes in a similar manner. Whereas before it was anxiety and Aaravos keeping him awake, this time it's Rayla and the promise of full reconciliation. A redo.

What does this all mean, though? Well:

Sleep (+ nightmares) are used to further link Viren and Callum in S6 with mirrored fears of being used by Aaravos

It strengthens the connection between Aaravos, dark magic, and dreams/nightmares, as well as bringing Janai into the loop

Like Callum and Rayla, Janai is also sleepless in 6x02, but is seeking Amaya's story, and lets her partner in. Callum does the same with and for Rayla throughout S6

Callum's relationship with sleep being influenced in a negative manner by Aaravos (anxiety, insomnia, nightmares, puppetting) and a positive manner by Rayla (comfort, thoughtfulness, love, mutual devotion) is another way the two elves are put in opposition to each other for Callum's fate and wellbeing without making them complete opposites

and I think that's all pretty cool

~Quasar AU background~

So… due to overwhelming support, yeah, I’ll make a part 2. Before that, some worldbuilding. There’s a lot here that feels impossible. Mainly Danny up and leaving like that. What about his friends, his family?

Well, it’s pretty simple. This is far enough in the future that Jazz has gone to college. She’s no longer there, and his parents stopped feeling like family a long time ago. That’s easy enough to understand.

Meanwhile, for Sam and Tucker… I was thinking that the Gregor episode happens later in canon. So basically, here Danny is, his sister miles away, his parents hunting him down, and his friends seemingly turning their backs on him. Combine that with the fact that he’s FORCED to be a hero, that he’s failing his classes, that he’s bullied and often gets punished for it… It’s just the tipping point.

On the JL’s side, they can’t exactly do anything when they don’t know there’s a problem in the first place. The GIW were monitoring information going in and out. For example, they kept the knowledge of the Justice League a secret, but heroes were already known, so Amity Parkers simply figure that heroes stick to whatever city they swore to defend. Calling in another city’s hero? They’re all too busy.

There’s also a huge timeskip between Danny leaving and Batman investigating. I mention it in my tags, but basically, without Danny to stop them, the ghosts get bolder. Technus tells all the other ghosts, feeling pretty darn bad about what they did, except… not all ghosts care. Desiree, Spectra and Bertrand, Aragon, Undergrowth and Nocturn, to name a few. Technus sharing that was basically an invitation for any ghost with less-than-pure intentions.

The GIW put a huge ghost shield around the entirety of Amity Park, but only after some huge disaster. If that were the end of it, it would be fine. However, it’s not. The hunters don’t discriminate between harmful and peaceful ghosts, nor adult or child. While it isn’t the first ghost they’ve caught and killed, they do End a child, and it’s the first completely innocent afterlife they’ve stopped.

It took five years, but the Ancients finally declare war.

(Also! The name came from the astronomical phenomenon. Quasars emit 100-1000x as much light as a regular galaxy. I thought it was fitting considering Danny is one of the most powerful ghosts. Also, although I didn’t know this when I named it, there are also these things called “Quasar ghosts” which are basically glowing green markers of where a Quasar died out. Just made me laugh more because I don’t think I could have chosen a more appropriate name if I tried!)

1981 Cadillac Evolution I

Fashion Victim: The 1981-83 Pierre Cardin Evolution I

French-Italian designer Pierre Cardin found worldwide fame with his exuberant approach to women’s fashion, but the skills didn’t necessarily cross over to the automotive world. 

The creator of mod chic and the bubble dress, Pierre Cardin (1922-2020) first made his name as a ladies’ fashion designer—one who then aggressively extended his brand marketing into consumer goods of all kinds, from perfume to sunglasses and eventually, automobiles. For American Motors he designed the 1972 Cardin Javelin with its memorable neon-striped upholstery, and in 1978 he whipped up a line of specially trimmed Cadillacs. But easily the wildest of his automotive enterprises was a customized Cadillac Eldorado called the Evolution I.

As we can see above, the most remarkable feature of Cardin’s restyled Eldorado is its  radically extended nose, which was facilitated in part with fenders and bumpers borrowed from the Oldsmobile Toronado, the Eldo’s GM E-body sibling. It’s an odd look, especially given the front-drive E-Body’s relatively short dash-to-axle distance.

The rear end styling was rearranged in a similarly arbitrary manner, with the Eldorado’s classic vertical taillights replaced with a slim horizontal lamp assembly that spanned the width of the body. Cardin’s sales literature boasted of “30 coats of hand-rubbed lacquer” and other fineries.

1981 Cadillac Evolution I

Luxury upgrades to the interior included elaborate two-tone leather upholstery, front and rear consoles, and a Quasar video player with a Sony TV in the rear seat. Pierre Cardin Automotive originally planned to produce 300 examples of the Evoluution I, with a gold plate on the instrument panel to testify to the serial number. But reportedly, only around 100 vehicles were delivered in the 1981-83 model run, including one Hess & Eisehnart convertible conversion. One likely reason for the limited popularity, we theorize, was the price: a hefty $58,000, more than three times the cost of a standard Cadillac Eldorado. As far as we know, this would be the fashion maven’s final foray into the automobile business.

Book 6, Episode 4: The Starscraper Analysis/Commentary

Then Callum reads "Orior ascendo scando" which google translate says means "I go up and climb." The next phrase he says supposedly translates to "raise, raise, raise." Latin nerds, correct me if, by some miracle, you're here.

Apparently Terry is still collecting sticks. I thought he stopped once he finished Claudia's wooden leg. I'm gonna try and figure out why he's doing this.

I'm still unclear on why Claudia is so adamant to help Aaravos. I guess maybe she would feel bad if she didn't pay him back but like. She kills innocent creatures to make magic pancakes.

I find it interesting that Kosmo has his handslike this so often. Perhaps it indicates that he has more devotion or something.

Also dude the celestial elves are basically just a glorified cult. I dont blame em, I worship a star too. a Fallen Star, specifically.

So yeah, 7 staffs identical to viren's and one empty slot. That's likely the one Aaravos (or some other "Great One" ig) gave Ziard.

As for the little colored gemstones in each staff, I don't think they are related to the Primals. They could, however, be the same sort of magic gems that we saw in season 4. The writers took valuable runtime to explain all the gems' names to the audience. They could have just left it at Moon Opals. But these staffs having primal gems would be a good reason to have named all of them in season 4. Still not convinced? Bro, by the end of the season it's straight up revealed that Viren's staff contains a Quasar Diamond. So yeah, I'm pretty confident in this.

Anyways, the elder dude reveals that they gave the Novablade to a brave human girl. Definitely the Orphan Queen. I heard some interesting speculation that maybe Ezran will find the Novablade hidden in the vaults of Katolis or something. 'Cause I think the Orphan Queen is his ancestor. Ooooh maybe she is where we'll get the explanation for Ezrans animal telepathy.

Wait, are they immortal or can they just live for a super long time? In the wiki i remember it saying it was the former. Maybe mortals just say they live forever because it's so long. Either way, a reductive statement. Leola clearly didn't live forever-

Why I don’t want Aaravos to be trapped in the coin (irrational version)

Stuck in a limbo of life and death: rationally, it’s perfect since he technically can’t die, but I’d rather he actually “died” somehow (like Leola) and finally gets reunited.

Also being stuck in another prison (which is also worse than his pearl-modeled-after-his-home) after getting out of the first is just rude imo. Not to mention it’s sort of risky? In the future someone could make another Quasar diamond somehow (if they use the extra they have), and then free him. Idk.

I want Aaravos to pass the test of love that he’s always preached himself. Like Terry said, he’s now on a path of revenge but in the show SO MANY characters have voluntarily chosen a different path—Callum, Soren, Rayla, even Viren (though pretty last minute).

I don’t want Aaravos to do a sacrifice thing or anything like Viren did, but I think him choosing to peacefully go on in the name of his daughter would be nice (though after some epic battle ofc lol). Perhaps so he can honour her, and her legacy. Keep her alive in a way.

So either the show can stick with the pattern, or it can do the “not all villains can be redeemed” thing.

I know that these^ are most probably not gonna happen, and it’s truly a very positive outcome (when the actual show can go on a much darker route) but I’m a sucker for happy (or even happy-ish) endings so just let me dream okay-

Startouched

At this point you've either seen this episode or you haven't, but not much to predict:

Team Zym have the prison.

Claudia goes off the deep end.

Callum wants to destroy the prison but everyone else isn't sure.

During the night, Aaravos takes over Callum and has him place his hand on the prison, letting Callum see into the prison and gets a vision of Aaravos breaking the pearl (imo this becomes extremely important later on).

Finally, he and Rayla head off to the Starscraper to find a way to stop Aaravos for good, while Soren goes off to find Zubeia.

Love, War & Mushrooms

In this episode, Rayla and Callum will likely have an important conversation, possibly mentioning Callum's father, as the show runners hinted at his role this season (Love). Meanwhile, Amaya and Janai prepare for war, knowing that Karim has an army and the Sun Seed (War), with Janai sending a crow for help to an "old friend." Soren and Zym meet up with Corvus and search for Zubeia, only to find mushrooms at her last known location (Mushrooms). The episode concludes with Viren arriving in Katolis and Ezran confronting him in the rain. 

The Frozen Ship

Rayla enters the ship from the promo while Callum waits outside. The ship mysteriously catches fire, trapping Rayla inside. Callum rushes in to rescue her when she doesn't emerge, realizing she stayed behind to search for her dropped coins. This scene highlights Callum's devotion to Rayla and suggests that Rayla may be more committed to her family than she initially let on. Meanwhile, Ezran listens to Viren and, despite wanting to punish him for his actions, learns that Claudia remains in Xadia and hasn't given up. This revelation leads Ezran to conclude that Soren, his companions, and the Sunfire elves are in grave danger. Determined to help, Ezran resolves to journey to Xadia.

The Starscraper

The plot kicks into gear when Callum and Rayla arrive at the Starscraper to seek help from the Celestial elves. They learn that using the Corona and Nova Blade requires more than just anyone's abilities. The Celestial elves send them on a mission to retrieve the heartstone of the Behemoth, Luna Tenebris' unsuitable heir, who roams the Frozen Sea. Callum and Rayla hesitate, as this would kill the Behemoth, but Callum proposes using a rune to extract the heartstone's energy without harming the creature. Meanwhile, Claudia hears Aaravos' voice calling her to Katolis, and Karim uses the Sun Seed to restore Sol Regem's sight, preparing to invade the Sunfire camp.

Moonless Night

Callum and Rayla pursue the Behemoth and, after a challenging encounter, successfully retrieve the energy from the rune, bringing it back to the Starscraper. However, the Celestial elves reveal that they need one more thing. Astrid explains that the Corona of the Heavens once belonged to the Star Leola, who bestowed the ability to use it upon the King of Elarion and his descendants, making them the only ones capable of wielding it. As Callum studies the quasar diamonds for an alternative solution, Rayla confronts Astrid, demanding more information since Elarion is long gone and finding a descendant seems impossible. Astrid mentions that the Celestial Elves once tracked down a man who was a direct descendant of the original King, but he had died. Shockingly, this man's name matches Callum's birth father's name. Rayla connects the dots and shares her discovery with Callum, who initially denies the possibility, arguing that it's merely a coincidence. Rayla realizes that Callum has so firmly embraced the idea of "Destiny Is A Book You Write Yourself" that he struggles to accept the possibility of a predetermined destiny. This leads to a heated argument involving their past experiences, ultimately resulting in Rayla and Callum fully reconciling and rekindling their relationship.

The Red Wedding

Karim and his army finally invade the Sunfire camp, capturing Ezran. Soren, Corvus, and Zym arrive to momentarily rescue him, followed by Aanya, who once again saves the Sunfire elves in a Deus-Ex-Machina fashion (as she is the "old friend"). During the rescue, Aanya and Ezran share a meet-cute moment. Soren and Viren reunite, with Soren reluctantly rescuing his father. As Karim takes control of the Sunfire camp, Sol Regem departs, no longer interested in petty squabbles. Meanwhile, Callum, refusing to consider Rayla's theory about his connection to the Corona, decides to connect with the Stars like the Celestial Elves. He attempts to fly blindfolded (as seen in the trailer) but fails and falls back to Earth. However, before hitting the ground, his body begins to levitate, and his eyes glow (similar to Kosmo's), but his smirk reveals the truth—he's possessed by Aaravos..

We All Fall Down

It is revealed that Aaravos had already left the prison, as the magic was designed to be impenetrable, and Claudia never had a way to set him free. Instead, Aaravos had intended on Callum & Co. to get to the prison first, then he had possessed Callum in 6x01, forcing him to place his hand on the prison, transferring Aaravos' essence to Callum. This explains why Callum didn't see Aaravos in the prison, as Aaravos has been in Callum's mind all along. Aaravos also confirms that Callum is the only person who can use the Nova Blade and the Corona of the Heavens. By bringing Aaravos to the Starscraper, Callum has played into his hands, allowing Aaravos to regain his full potential and declare war on his fellow Startouched elves (the Cosmic Order).

Meanwhile, Karim's victory is short-lived as Pharos becomes possessed by Aaravos as well. Karim is killed in a manner similar to Khessa, and Pharos transforms the remaining Sunfire elves into a new army of darkness. This army then converges on the corrupted core in Lux Area, where Pharos!Aaravos plans to gather his strength and spread darkness across the world.

Stardust

As Aaravos!Callum places the crown on his head, he feels his power return to full strength. He gloats that with the Nova Blade - the only weapon capable of killing Startouched elves - the Sunfire elf army, and Lux Aurea under his control, he can simultaneously conquer Xadia and the Cosmic Order, establishing a new empire. As punishment for her defiance, Aaravos "frees" Runaan but turns him into a corrupted version of himself that immediately attacks Rayla.

In Callum's mind, Aaravos taunts him while sharing his own backstory, revealing that he never fit in with the other Startouched elves and was ultimately cast out for his curiosity about magic. Callum empathizes with Aaravos, realizing their similarities and how the main difference between them stems from the love Callum received (and Aaravos did not). This realization leads Callum to a breakthrough with the Star Arcanum. He understands the vastness, darkness, and uncontrollable nature of the world (building on his understanding of the Ocean Arcanum) but recognizes that the sparks of love binding people together lead them from the darkness. Callum realizes that destiny isn't about who he will become (building on his understanding of the Sky Arcanum) but about acknowledging who he already is and the illusion of separation between himself, Aaravos, and everyone else.

By accepting his heritage as the Corona's true heir, Callum frees himself from Aaravos' grip and returns to consciousness. He then uses the Corona to restore Runaan and free Rayla's parents. Holding up the Nova Blade, Callum seemingly accepts that this is who he is, but that who he becomes is up to him.

Meanwhile, as Ezran and his companions march back to Xadia, they discover Zubeia, corrupted by sickness but kept at bay by the Mushroom mage. Janai achieves her own breakthrough, tapping into Light-Being Mode and purifying Zubeia. Simultaneously, Aaravos transports himself to Pharos' mind and teleports him to Katolis through a portal, where Claudia awaits (revealing Aaravos' contingency plan). Claudia uses Viren's staff to cast a powerful spell that restores Aaravos' body, sacrificing Pharos in the process. Aaravos describes the events at the Starscraper as a momentary setback, acknowledging Callum's increased power but persistent vulnerability, and resolving to bring him under his control regardless of what it takes. He then teleports himself and Claudia back to Lux Aurea, leaving Terry behind.

Star Trek is peak entertainment. every episode starts with the captain writing in his diary. flying around looking at quasars and shit. saying shit like “this entire society believes in impaling themselves on big sharp sticks, is it wrong for us to stop them?” everyone only likes classical music. horny as hell. getting trapped in the old west or sent to renaissance times every other week. fly past a weird nebula and suddenly everyone is trying to kill each other or singing show tunes or thinks they're King Arthur. your best friend gets turned inside out or morphed into a spider baby but she's fine after 1 doctor visit. nobody gets paid they're doing this for fun. everybody from Earth is American. always referencing stuff from 300 years ago. every alien is an incomprehensible blob of concrete or a regular guy with funny eyebrows. everyone's obviously gay but pretending to be straight. can only teleport out of danger when it's the most dramatic. every part of the spaceship can be reconfigured to shoot out reverse anti-tachyons or whatever they need. there's always a guy named something like Neeknork. they're technically in the military but they mostly look at neat rocks. spend the rest of their time going "please don't fight us we're just trying to look at these cool rocks". political entities are perfect socialist utopia, the Roman Empire if it was run by KGB Draculas, orcs, capitalism, Ayn Rand lizards, clone soldier theocracy and what if zombies were also robots somehow. half the show is just staff meetings. it's incredible and I love it

Like all he ever wanted was some form of acknowledgement from Viren his WHOLE LIFE but now that he’s got it it’s too late

Soren desperately wants to believe Viren but he’s been hurt so many times he doesn’t allow himself to

Viren has given Soren some serious trauma and self-worth issues, and even after two years of virtual peace, he’s still keeping it in

Everyone he trusted either didn’t care or isn’t even present in his life (lissa), so he always kept it in, using his “class clown himbo” facade as a coping mechanism

But now that his entire childhood trauma is literally sitting there staring at him he can’t take the idea of working through it all and that’s why he blew up

Omg this was essentially a soren character study sorry lmaooo. I’m not too learned in trauma and all that stuff this is just my take on what’s going on with him I’m just really invested cuz he’s my bbg princess and i need him to be okay 💀

ANYWAYS considering that Rayla really connected with Esmeray in this season i wonder if she’s gonna have some plot relevance later on (i hope so esmeray is fuckin cool) especially cuz even kosmo commented on it and he can see the future. Soren BETTER BE OKAY by the end of this season i can’t take his pain 😭. And also i am SO EXCITED for rayla to see her parents again and for runaan to FINALLY go back to ethari like he DESERVES GAHH—
