Company's Shadow
The Hobbit x How to Train Your Dragon
Being the last of your kind is a lonely thing. Especially when you no longer have your best friend, brother in all but blood, by your side to distract you from that bone crushing loneliness that comes with being the last.
So, you find it easier to just wander. Reminiscent of the old days of just flying to get away from everything. Two partners just flying away together, exploring for anything new, just get away from all the responsibility and worries that come with life. It's nice and nostalgic. Helps make remembering things less painful.
And that's what Toothless was doing, for he may not have knew it then when he had first met his human, but the moment the human Hiccup had dubbed him Toothless, from that moment on, it became his name until Toothless finds his own end. Toothless flew and flew, expecting to find the end of the world as Hiccup talked about during their past explorations. Toothless flew, finding many new islands. Until, one day, he came upon a large piece of land, much bigger than any island Toothless has ever seen before in the past. So, Toothless decided to explore this new land and its people.
By this point in time, it's been years, and on one of Toothless's many wanderings and explorations, one day, he finds a strange large group camping out on the cold night.
This group consisted of a tall elderly looking man and thirteen short people. The man dressed differently than other humans Toothless has met or seen, wearing almost ragged looking grey robes with a large wide brimmed pointy hat, in his hand is a tall wooden staff. He looked old and frail, but the aura he gave out told Toothless that this man is much stronger than he looks. And the thirteen short people were definitely not children, despite being about the same size, for the way they carried themselves reminded Toothless of the grown men, they remind Toothless of the short people he has caught glimpses of in the mountains he'd passed by. Dwarves, Toothless remembers over hearing other humans call them. But what built upon the strangeness of this group that caught Toothless's attention, is the fact that they aren't heading in the direction of any mountains, at least not any close by. Which means these dwarves are far from home, and Toothless is curious as to why. But there is one that stood out to the Night Fury. One that can't be a dwarf like the others. For he may be small like the other dwarves, but he's smaller still, he is built differently than the others, he has less hair on his face, has slightly pointed ears unlike the others, and this one holds himself much differently compared to the others.
The little man reminds Toothless of his human Hiccup actually.
Strangeness of no home or mountains nearby, this little man would have been the only reason Toothless would need to stay and watch. He reminds Toothless too much of Hiccup not to stay close. Hiccup had the bad habit of finding himself in trouble quite often.
Toothless has the feeling this little man is no different.
So, Toothless settled himself quietly above the group of sleeping dwarves, the little man, and the strange old man, easily blending into the shadows and the darkness of the night. He notices they already have someone awake and on guard, notices how they wake each other up to take turns watching over the others.
And Toothless sleeps, keeping an ear out and instincts alert as he decides to watch over the group. Just until they get where they are going.
~
It's been multiple days since Toothless had decided to follow and watch over the company, what the group had called themselves, and he is slowly learning the names. One of the younger dwarves, Kili and Fili, reminds him a little of the twins on their Zippleback, except with less fighting and more bantering. Kinda like him and Hiccup when they play and mess around together. The leader of the group is named Thorin, he reminds Toothless of Stoick, Hiccup's father, before he was okay with dragons. More angry and fierce.
Though Stoick was always fierce, he just had more reason to be when dragons and Vikings were at war with each other.
There's this one dark haired dwarf that wears a funny hat, and tells fun stories, always keeping the other's spirits on high, his name is Bofur, Toothless remembers, and the cheery dwarf reminds Toothless of Gobber actually. The two both liked to tell stories around the campfire. And then the little man, Hobbit, half-ling, or burglar Toothless has overheard the others refer to the smaller one as. But it was the man, Gandalf the half-ling has called him, that finally gave Toothless the Hobbit's name, Bilbo Baggins.
~
It's been a week now and Toothless noticed how Bilbo's been getting skinnier and hasn't been dealing well with the small rations, none of them have really. But Toothless noticed that it has been affecting Bilbo the most.
Well, he can't have that now, can he?
So Toothless decided to lend a helping hand, or claw really. Before, Toothless mostly hunted for himself and always did so whenever the Company would sit and eat. He would fly to the nearest pond, lake, or other water source and grab what he wanted before flying right back to wherever his hiding spot is close to the camp, and enjoy his meal.
Now, things are different. Compared to their first interactions together, Toothless likes to think he is pretty knowledgeable to humans, and dwarves and hobbits in this case, eating habits. And Toothless has realized three very important facts about humans and their diets.
First, they are not like hatchlings. They do not like to share food that have already been consumed. When Toothless realized this later in life, he was actually impressed his partner still did it in their original meetings in the beginning.
Second, they don't like raw food, prefer to cook over fire or some other heat source. Fortunately, Toothless has that covered. His plasma blasts will have his killed cooked and ready to eat in no time.
And thirdly, humans don't like just fish. They eat other meat. Prefer land meat actually. Only the cities, villages, and smaller islands that live/surrounded by water eat more fish then land meat. And based on their usual meager meals, Toothless can safely guess that the company is former, and prefers the meat from the lands than the water.
So, the next morning the company awoke to find a charred.... deer? Wolf? Boar? It's kind of hard to tell from the blackened fur and burned flesh.
Toothless waited eagerly in the shadows, tail swaying excitedly behind him. He hopes they like his hunt. Plus! He made sure to make the land meat extra crispy.
"What in the heavens?", Bilbo mutters as he stared the lump of charred meat.
"That wasn't there earlier.", a small red headed dwarf states as he keeps spinning around as if in search of the source of the strange... gift?
Unbeknownst to Ori, said source was crouched, hidden, right behind him. Only mere feet away.
"Well.", Bofur said with a raised considering brow, "It may be charred beyond belief, but it's food. Bifur, help me cut off anything left that may be edible for today's lunch and, if there's enough, dinner."
Toothless ears perked up. Not edible? He thought he did a great job! Maybe it wasn't cooked enough?
The next day, they found another unrecognizable animal, for it too was burned until black. Except, this time, it's somehow worse than the last one. The company could only look at the charred remains incredulously.
"What is wrong with this trail?", Gloin asked in confusion, "Why is it we keep finding burned animal meat?"
Gandalf actually looked amused, "Either there is something hunting for sport, or there is something out there trying to tell us to eat more... albeit poorly."
"I don't like it.", Thorin spoke as he crossed his arms, eyebrows furrowed in suspicion, "There are not many out there that could cause such damage like this. And those that can, are creature I'd prefer to keep my distance."
"I don't understand. Your saying that a-a... creature did this?", Bilbo asks face becoming pale as he stared at the poor animal, "What could have done this? What kind of creature?"
"None I care to meet.", grumbled Thorin before turning to the rest of company, "Gather up anything that can be used for food and be ready to move out. We need to keep moving."
Toothless laid in his hidden patch of shade, pouting. He cooked it more this time and it seemed to baffle and upset them even more. Maybe they do prefer fish rather than the land meat.
And that's when Toothless remembers, whenever they took a break and ate together, Hiccup preferred to cook his own food. Maybe humans just had this territorial thing of cooking their own meals. Not that much different from dragons being possessive of their own kills. Only sharing to those they like or trust.
So, once again, the next morning, the company awoke to find another animal carcass sneaked into their camp. But this time it was fresh and left alone.
Toothless was very happy to see the company take to the meat with glee. So he was right! They are just particular about cooking their own food.
Good to know.
After that, every other morning, the company would awake to new meat waiting for them. All of them confused, Bilbo looked sick at the sight at first, but as time went by, the hobbit was just relieved to have the extra food on his plate. Thorin remained suspicious, but won't turn away good meat that can be used to feed his men. The quest will all for nothing if they're starving by the tie they reach Erebor. And Gandalf seemed to be amused, but curious as well.
Out of the company, Gandalf seems to be understanding what's going on the most. But even though he understands the situation, he doesn't know or what is doing it. Following them as a self-proclaimed guardian it feels like.
Again, amusing, but curious as well. For whoever or whatever it is that is following the company, is very good at hiding themselves. Gandalf knows that they are being followed, he knew just before the meat begun to turn up. But thing is, the wizard is aware that the group was most likely followed by the creature for longer before Gandalf had noticed.
Gandalf chuckled, and Bilbo looked over to the Grey Wizard curiously.
"What's so funny?"
"We are being followed.", Gandalf answered with an amused mischievous twinkle in his eye.
But the moment those words were out of the wise wizards mouth, he had the attention of the whole company.
"Followed?", Thorin rumbled, "Why didn't you say anything sooner?"
"Because by the time I noticed Master Dwarf, our shadow had started to leave gifts for us to find.", Gandalf spoke calmly, staring at the dwarf pointedly.
"You mean the food?", Kili asked.
"Makes sense why the meat was charred at first. Probably tried to cook it for us. But when it noticed we didn't like it, tried to cook the meat more, and finally left it raw for us to use as we pleased.", Balin mused.
"It's intelligent then?", Bilbo guessed.
"Must be.", Dwalin crossed his arms over his chest, "Other wise, we'd either have found it by now, or the meat would have remained charred like it was the first time we found it. Or, more likely, not burned at all."
Dwarves all nodded in agreement. So that's one clue to this mysterious tag along, it's a creature, but it's intelligent enough to understand them and make adjustments according to their reactions.
"What I don't get is when it started following us in the first place, and why?", Dwalin grumbled.
"That's what I would like to know.", Thorin agreed with an angry furrow in his brows.
"My guess, is that it's been following in our shadows long before it had started to leave us food.", Gandalf informed the company, "A week, a the least, and a fortnight at most. For some reason, it seems that this creature, whatever it is, has determined to remain in our shadow until it is needed, remaining hidden at all times."
"Alright, but what for? For what purpose?", Thorin pushed.
Gandalf shook his head, "Your guess is as good as mine."
The left the Company in silence before Bombur looked over and saw Bofur looking off into the distance thoughtfully.
"Bofur.", the round dwarf called out.
Bofur hummed with a thoughtful look, "The Company's Shadow. I'd say that's a good as name for it as now."
"We're naming it?", FIli and Kili asked in unison.
"No. No. No. We are not naming whatever thing is following us.", Thorin thundered.
But Bofur just grinned, "We just did."
"Shadow's a good name.", Bilbo nodded in agreement.
"Aye, fine name for any lass or lassie.", Balin agreed, many dwarves followed their leader voicing their own positive reactions and agreements.
"Ya hear that!", Fili calls out into the woods.
"Your the Company's Shadow now beastie!", Kili finished.
And Toothless couldn't help his roar of amusement and permission. His name is still and forever will be Toothless. But he doesn't mind being called a shadow for now.
It's funny, because many of the Vikings in the village joked about the same thing when referring to how close he stuck to Hiccup. It's not his fault the human kept finding himself in trouble and needed to be watched at all times because of it!
So yes, for now, the Company's Shadow Toothless shall be.

'Orange Hues'
A/n: It's fall, what more can I say? Since it's my favorite season, I thought of this, so here you go! :) Warnings: mentions of Stoick's death, kind of short? Imo. Hiccup x !fem reader!
You weren't one to hate the wind as much. Especially when you had a dragon of your own. It was impossible to avoid the gale that rushed past you whenever you took to the skies, so you didn't mind it. In fact, it was most enjoyable that way. However, in your current situation, it didn't seem like one of your highly favorable moments.
You stood next to the Chief, arms folded across your chest, as you tried to ignore the ever-persistent current of air that blew against your hair, pursing your lips in annoyance. It was fine to experience that on your dragon with your secured helmet on, but having to deal with nearly the same conditions on land wasn't what you had hoped for.
Hiccup had came across another island, yet again, and he didn't waste any time in recording it in his map - or, at least, tried to. He needed a few rocks to keep the parchment paper down so he could carry out his intentions of marking down every detail his viridescent eyes found, a concentrated expression on his features as he continued to jot down as much as he could. Toothless, similar to his rider, didn't appear bothered by the weather, not even in the slightest.
'Who am I kidding, he's a dragon. He has scales, not hair.' You internally told yourself, playfully rolling your eyes at the Night Fury as he nudged your side. Your hand gently scratched underneath his chin, glancing at your own dragon who was laying beside Hiccup. It was funny, really. Whenever you two were together for longer periods of time, each of your dragons would go to the opposite rider. It stood true, even now, as Toothless grumbled in satisfaction, plopping down next to you as you gave him the scratches he silently asked for.
You glimpsed at the Chief, seeing his hand reaching up to pet your dragon's head as he finished up the last details of the map, glancing up one final time at the scenery around him before he sat up straighter, ignoring the wind that ruffled his auburn hair. "Alright, I think that's about it..!" He spoke, a carefree tone in his voice as he stood up and dusted his hands off. "We should probably be heading back now, I can't be out for long.." He remembered that he had to put away his map as your dragon nudged him, motioning his tail towards the paper, causing him to kneel back down.
You folded your arms, trying to hide the fact that you wanted to stay a while longer. Hiccup had become Chief a year ago after Stoick's death, and he couldn't go flying with Toothless to discover new islands as much anymore. It made you truly realize that he was the Chief now, and he couldn't run away from it this time. You hadn't came to terms with how much you actually enjoyed going on those small trips with him - whenever you caught him doing so, at least. He managed to get by today and take you with him to go for another one of those flights, despite his new schedule attending to Berk.
Things changed so quickly, and you barely had enough time to wrap your mind around it all that Stoick was really gone, that he couldn't be there to scold Hiccup anymore, that he couldn't be the one going to chiefly meetings, that he couldn't be the one to gather Berk together for a meeting, and he wouldn't be the one taking care of a whole island of people. That was Hiccup's duty now. With your help, of course. You watched him take on the new responsibilities as best as he could, but there were moments when he felt overwhelmed, just like he had been before he even became Chief. You were glad that he was able to take the time and bring you with him today for a small break from it all, but you both knew that there wouldn't be as many opportunities to do what you two were doing now.
You had to grow up.
"Well, it has been a bit windy.." You muttered, your arms still folded as the last bits of wind flew past your face, "..But, uh, you sure you got everything you needed on the map?" You questioned, speaking out the unsaid words of 'Can we stay just a little longer?' You hoped that Hiccup would understand what you were really trying to say, and yet, at the same time, you didn't want to distract him from the things he needed to do at Berk.
Your eyes trailed to the side for a moment, blinking at the orange and red leaves that were scattered across the grass. It only heightened the exquisiteness of the whole area, and you'd be lying if you said it didn't catch your attention. Slowly turning back to Hiccup, who was watching your subtle actions with a questioning gaze, you faintly shrugged. "Y'know... We could stay for a couple of minutes..if you want to. It wouldn't harm anyone.."
You observed the brief conflict on his face, assuming that he did have something to do at Berk already. You felt a little...regret, for asking now; If you hadn't asked, he wouldn't be placed in the spot of having to say no to something you both wanted to do, "Actually... nevermind, we can just--" Your words fell short as Toothless suddenly bounded over towards the scattered leaves, a delighted grin on his face as he purposefully ran through them, causing colors of scarlet and ginger to fly up in the air. Your dragon was soon to follow afterwards.
With a slightly gaping mouth, you witnessed two dragons begin to play with leaves. Before you could say anything, however, Hiccup was by your side with an amused smile tracing his lips, "Well, looks like we'll have to stay now; Toothless looks like he doesn't plan on leaving anytime soon yet." He grinned, seeing your surprised expression, as he gently grabbed your hand and walked forward to where your dragons were, "Would you give me the honor of staying a little longer here with me?" He worded his question in a sarcastic manner, but you could tell he was making sure that you were willing enough to agree.
So, without wasting anymore time, you chuckled and pulled him forward, running towards the autumn-shaded leaves, feeling like a child again as you watched them fly over your head with a delighted smile, and trying to catch some as they fell back down again. Toothless must have done it on purpose, or he didn't know, but his tail had swung across a small pile of leaves right next to you and Hiccup, making you only see colors of red and orange for a moment. You couldn't help but giggle at the Night Fury's face when he realized what happened - at least, when you were finally able to view him.
Hiccup playfully smirked as an idea came to his mind, throwing even more leaves at Toothless 'in return' for his actions, but it only seemed to make the dragon more excited. Rolling his eyes at his best friend, the Chief turned to glance at you, snorting when he found a leaf still stuck in your hair. Trying to recompose himself, he cleared his throat and gestured towards your head, "You, uh, got something in your hair, Milady." He snickered, leisurely reaching out for the leaf, showing it to you right in front of your face as you realized what he meant.
You narrowed your eyes at him, seeing the teasing glint in his own. "I noticed something about your hair too.." You muttered, quickly extending your hands to ruffle his auburn locks, smiling to yourself when he stared at you with a gaping mouth, "It's messed up now... Or, actually, I kind of like it this way--" You were, once again, interrupted as your dragon suddenly came bolting past you both, chasing a specific leaf, causing you two to fall on the ground. Thankfully, it didn't hurt as much as you thought it would, and you landed next to each other, unlike the many times when you accidentally fell on Hiccup's prosthetic leg.
Despite the cause for being on the ground, you couldn't stop the laughter that came from you, holding your stomach as you grasped in as much air as possible. Hiccup shook his head, recovering from the sudden fall as he glanced at you. He felt the corner of his lips tug upwards at the sight, sitting himself up with his arms as he observed the different colored leaves that surrounded your form. It looked like a perfect moment captured in time as he kept his gaze on you, making sure that he would remember what he had seen.
He was glad that he decided to stay, just for a little longer.

<Previous - First>
“I’m surprised it went this smooth,” Stoick grumbled, voice hollow with distance, “With Alvin-... I’d expect something from Hiccup, at least. That boy…”
“He’s ‘Too busy, eh?” Gobber asked, waggling his eyebrows suggestively, grunting and hopping as he did it, reattaching his prosthetic to his leg nub, “Prolly been off mackin’ on tha’ girlfriend o’ his.”
Right… Alvin.
“Ah,” Hiccup was flushed, rubbing his neck and brushing against already messy hair, “Yeah, I forgot about that…”
Toothless was around somewhere.
He glanced to the side, where you stood, equally embarrassed and mussed, shoulders hunched slightly, very red in the face.
You shifted in your skirts, resisting the urge to use your boot to scratch at the back of your thigh, which had been itchy for a little while, since you brushed up against some plant walking back from the forest.
You were just around the corner from Hiccup’s Dad -a bright and heavily painted corner; turns out his whole ‘painting the houses’ thing caught on, which meant a lot less of things burning down- though he wasn’t sure if you’d heard.
All the talk of criminal executions was depressing, though you missed it, lost in the puppy-love haze phase of your new relationship. Still, it was kind of a bummer. It was for the best that Alvin was gone, though. Less danger in that for you too -not just the riders or Stoick or anything else.
You hoped it didn’t bum Hiccup out too bad. You noticed it had been getting him down, and you’d done your best.
Your fingers curled together, hooked securely and delicately to his by the fingerpads, and you and Hiccup stood close enough that you could feel his body heat through his tunic though not yet enough for the two of you to be touching by the arm.
You’d just gotten back from a successful trip to the glowing algae pool.
His vest was slightly displaced and you were both sure he’d lost a bead or two.
In one hand you held the little Fireworm, wrapped in a carefully made chainmail blanket -it was hard to come up with something that wouldn’t pinch skin or scales- also wrapped in a layer of leather so that you could hold it comfortably.
It squirmed slightly.
He scuffed his prosthetic slightly, recently oiled, recently reforged with treads beaten into the bottom, which did a lot to help with gripping wet wood while you were walking hand-in-hand around Berk.
You wore a red tunic -his, really, he’d lent it to you again after you’d gotten some muck on yours- and a string of your own beads on leather cord tied around your neck, something Hiccup had picked nonchalantly from the forge and used to help make you a necklace.
He’d tried to make you a bead once, but he wasn’t much of an artisan.
“I mean, me too,” You huffed, feather swaying as you shifted, attached to a stick like a pom-pom on one end of a cat toy, “We’ve been busy with other things, though- Not like what Gobber said- I mean, you know…”
Hiccup nodded, though he was still looking forward. This was all still super new for the both of you.
It would feel that way for a while.
You were still in disbelief- it was a wonder to you why he and Astrid didn’t pair up before.
He traced the collar of his scarf slightly as Sharpshot lolled lazily by your feet, slightly wet and glow-ey by his lower half whenever he teased the shade with his tail.
You knew Hiccup was bummed Devastated that the Screaming Death had destroyed all his hard work -a good deal of the things he’d built up in the village for you, though with some hard work and dirt pushed under your fingernails it had been fixed up pretty easy.
He seemed happier now. It hadn’t really been something you’d planned but you’d distracted him somewhat- your relationship was still very, very new, still.
And you made him a gift.
You’d tried crafting again. It was very scratchy and you’d definitely not done a very good job making sure the whole thing was even but it was a nice fading rainbow, the yarn dyed in all the colors in Roy G. Biv in darker, neutral tones.
“Looks like you fixed things right up, ‘Dragon Master,’” You stuck out your tongue at him, looking smug.
It -the scarf- covered the bottom of Hiccup’s chin. It didn’t really fit him but he wore it with pride, which made something flutter around in your guts in a way that was almost uncomfortable.
You predicted it would be around a week before he took it off.
Hiccup had unintentionally returned the favor. You got a satchel from him, small and attached to a belt with norse knots imprinted around the edges, sown neatly together. It was sort of like a fanny pack but with more buckles and also cool.
“Did you really have to use that?” Hiccup said, leaning his head towards you momentarily.
Sharpshot churr-ed in the squawky squeaky way only a terror could, blinking up at the feather attached to your hip as you adjusted your hand in Hiccup’s.
The small Fireworm in your other hand blinked beadily as it sometimes very rarely did.
“It is tacky,” You admitted, though that was definitely why you used it, “But you did a good enough job to deserve it, not that you have to do anything to deserve things.”
You gently bumped into him with your hip.
And he did a great job. Berk was back to how it was just before the Screaming Death -most of the roses ended up being fine, and the plants that were lost were easily replaced and reinforced by spiked metal fences and wooden pikes.
You’d also added a few new planters. Many of the houses stationed under ramps were popular real estate now for metal tins for glowing mushroom growing, which you knew there many new homeowners were proud of, not just because of the fact that it made them a lot of money.
The mushrooms were great for paint making and the extra roofing kept dragons from jumping over houses and messing with tiling.
It was heavy maintenance, but they were all Vikings. For a modern girl like you, you found it was all worth it, if not just for the convenience.
Living on Berk was rough, but it was good and different now. Even with all the Outcasts and the dragons and the hunters and everything else missing.
And you were happy.
And maybe Hiccup’s crush hadn’t ended up being so onesided after all.

Wash it out with Soap
I'm not sure why I started thinking of this, but here are headcanons for how the HTTYD/RTTE characters would curse. (None of them would use slurs, though, because that's just mean)
Hiccup: When he's frustrated or surprised by something. I don't see him using any insult curses. He just has a lot of "what the (blank)s?" and singular "(blank)s" depending on the situation. The twins are probably the cause of about 60% of his cursing. I'm sure something slips out whenever he and Toothless are plummeting due to a ruined tail too.
Astrid: When she's angry or really doesn't like someone. She does use insult curses for hated individuals (both to their faces and not). There's no particular type of curse I see her using more than the others. They just are the result of her being agitated and it's probably best to cover your ears. Snotlout and the twins are the cause of 70%, but a minimum of 15% is because of Hiccup when he does something reckless.
Snotlout: When he feels like he should sound tougher or when he's being inappropriate. It's very possible this is why he's struggling to get a date. He's learning though. Not so many of the insult curses unless someone makes him REALLY upset, so it'll be directed your way if you go after Hooky. Don't go after Hooky. I guess Spitelout is the cause of 100% of his cursing because his awful parenting made him feel like it's the best way to communicate strength.
Fishlegs: When he is L.I.V.I.D. I mean Snotlout just kept the dragon eggs from their mom again type of angry. As in someone went after Meatlug and then his friends. At this point, anything and everything is coming out of his mouth. You might think you know every curse word, but you'll learn new ones that day. No one in particular is the cause since it's so rare. It also makes it scary when it happens.
Tuffnut: When he's almost unintentionally being inappropriate. One-third of him knows he could word it better, one-third doesn't feel like trying, and the final one-third enjoys his friends facepalming at him. Not as many insult curses as those involving body parts and the other ones. There's really no particular reason for them. It just depends on his mood.
Ruffnut: When she wants to horrify someone. She's a sort of tricky one for me to figure out since she actually had a line about NOT wanting to curse since it wouldn't have been lady-like...but I'm just gonna say that it also highlights how her natural reaction to shock/distress was to use expletives. Still, to try to stick with the established lore, I'll say she normally doesn't except for when she's feeling extra mischievous.
Stoick: When he's angry, annoyed, agitated (feeling any negative emotions even slightly). It doesn't take much. He's saying whatever feels right in the moment. He's also not apologizing for it. Try to not get your feelings hurt. If you didn't make him mad, he wouldn't have said it in the first place. So, don't start acting like a...
Gobber: When he's getting excited. I feel like he's a happy curser. Even if he uses an insult curse, it's actually meant to be endearing. He'll be grinning and well-meaning the whole time. It'll take some adjustments, but it's possible to get used to it. If you ever hear him cursing and angry, he's probably about to kill someone.
Heather: When she's irritated, pissed, or talking about Dagur (though this might be redundant). For him, she's using insult curses both before and after they're cool with each other. Other times, the language isn't that harsh. Just a little rough, but it increasingly gets worse as the situation itself gets worse.
Mala: When she's threatening someone. It's actually terrifying because she only does it one other time. She'll go from so proper to suddenly whispering curses and promises of murder in someone's ear. The last thing they'll hear is her cursing them out. Then she acts like nothing happened. Suuuure. (Dagur also loves it when she does this and might be involved in that other time she curses, but the reason is way less murderous)
Throk: When someone insults Mala or the Great Protector. No other time. It's just then and he's swearing like a sailor.
Dagur: When he opens his mouth. Seriously though. This isn't even a good Dagur/bad Dagur thing. It's just a Dagur thing. He's saying everything in varying intensity because there is no limiting Dagur the Deranged. Sometimes, it's because he's pissed. Sometimes, it's because he's so excited that these are the first words to come to mind. And sometimes, he just wants to keep the others on their toes.

Okay so the httyd thing. I've been so excited to share this idea w/ you you have no idea.
So what I've been thinking, is Hiccup seemed to recover wayyyyyyyyy too fast for someone who's been neglected and ostracized from his entire community most of if not all his life. Like when Stoick comes home from looking for the nest in the first movie, and the villagers are saying things like "congratulations" or "out with the old in with the new" and "good riddance if you ask me" and they're "throwing a party to celebrate" Stoick assumes Hiccup is dead and that Berk is celebrating. Berk hated him that much. So what I'm thinking is, Hiccup has made inventions and stuff, he's been trying to do something that will prove he's one of them, a real Viking, trying to make them like him, and none of it worked. The only thing that made them realize he was worth anything was when he started being himself, but what if Hiccup doesn't see it quite that way. What if he thinks that if they can change their minds that quick to like him, then they might change their minds again if he doesn't stay useful. What if no one apologized to him for how they treated him? Because I don't think anyone did. What if his self esteem is still 6 feet lower than the ground and he's walking around waiting for the other shoe to drop. In Gift of the Night Fury we see he feels guilty for Toothless needing him to fly, and so he makes him a new tail that doesn't need a rider. Toothless doesn't want it, but that's not the point. What if Hiccup gives people the option to leave him, because he still thinks its possible that they will. It probably wouldn't be super obvious if he did, but what if he makes them all (Astrid, Tuff and Ruffnut, Fishlegs, Snotlout, maybe even Gobber and Stoick) inventions and things that make it so they don't have to rely on him so much? Leaning a little into Race to the Edge, what if he gives Fishlegs some books he's always borrowing, just as an example. What if they all think he's just being nice, and he's actually trying to make sure they don't need to have him around? This is probably a bit of a stretch, but it's all to say that Hiccup deserved better, and I want the gang to see that and help this boy dig his very very low self esteem out of the hole they buried it in. (Also I like to think that hiccup did this with Gobber when he was younger, because Gobber being the only one who didn't hate him is my emotional support headcannon)
TLDR: What if the gang realized that Hiccup has no self worth and thinks that if everyone could suddenly like him then they could still suddenly hate him?
This might be out of character, but I think all of Berk hating his guts and calling him a screw-up probably did some nasty damage to Hiccup's self esteem, and I want to see that realized and dealt with, because being hated and then suddenly loved might have been a dream come true, but it also probably made him scared it was a dream, and that he will eventually have to wake up.
(Finally getting around to responding to this - sorry it took awhile, I've had my mind on other things and I really didn't want to give a half-brained response when you put so much work into this.)
Ahhhhh, "social outcast genius equating his self-worth to his usefulness in the eyes of others" trope, my beloved.
I will say, my perception of his relationship with the people of Berk was always a bit more on the "he's a nuisance, but he's still family" side of things than out-right hatred. Like the equivalent of a small-town's troubled youth, they don't like him, but he grew up there and he's the village leader's son, so they still have some sense of ownership of him prior to his making them change their minds. If that makes any sense? ...they're Vikings, though, so it's hard to tell the difference sometimes, lol. But, in fairness - it's been awhile since I've watched the first movie, so I'll concede to the freshest memory here. Anyway, that's beside the point-
I wholeheartedly agree with you on this! Hiccup was definitely owed a town apology, at the very least. I understand why they didn't go into that in the movie - limited time, plus the the Stoic-Hiccup relationship was really the core of the conflict, so they opted to focus on that instead - but I agree it would have been nice to see some closure regarding the people of Berk's attitude and treatment towards him. Or some recognition for how it might have affected him after the first movie's conclusion. Because you're absolutely right, that kind of emotional whiplash can be damaging - especially on a teenager who already has considerably low self-esteem.
This does feel pretty in-character for Hiccup, in my opinion, considering the doubts he has in himself as a leader. He neither wanted nor felt right for that job, even when everybody else was sure of his qualifications. So it'd be easy to see him projecting his own doubts in himself on others and assuming they might see things the same way as him. That's the kind of thing that eventually fades as it's repeatedly proven untrue, but it takes time for that reassurance to grow, and the doubts would definitely be pretty prominent at the start. And him wanting to do what's best for everyone else, having the sense of love and responsibility for his community that he has, it makes sense he wouldn't try to hold on too tightly and would instead provide ample opportunity for people to leave if/when they wanted to. (Just like he did with Toothless.)
I think if anybody was gonna pull him out of that, or help him pull himself out of that, it would be Astrid. She'd immediately know something's up - she's always the one to ground him when he's too inside his own head to see things clearly. And unlike his confidence in himself, her confidence in him has never once wavered, she knows he's more capable than he thinks. Astrid also has a much healthier relationship with the rest of Berk, so if anybody can provide some reassurance on the public opinion front, it would be her.
...
All that to say - I like this idea! Very well thought-out and well-considered, imo. I'm not quite as well-versed on the HTTYD world as some people - while I adore the movies, I never quite reached fixation levels of interest in the franchise, for whatever reason - so I can't add too much to this. But I like it and I appreciate you sharing your concept with me! Thanks! :>
#Slightly unrelated but this is making me realize I have a very specific character preference...and ship preference asdfgjkl#asked and answered#nevergiveyournametothefae#Also - again I seriously apologize for taking so long to respond to this. I hope the delay didn't cause you too much worry#Tumblr messaging can be hecka stressful sometimes lol

My friends and I are still on our pokémon nuzlocke bullshit so I'm still poke obsessed.
But separately I'm also on my how to train your dragon bullshit and I realized how similar the relationship progression of Ash and Pikachu and of Hiccup and Toothless is.
They should meet.
Ash getting slung on Berk would have pretty much the same effect as Hiccup ending up in Unova. Going from no electricity to that would probably give the kid an aneurysm before he starts taking pokedexes apart to learn how to build them. I don't think Toothless would scare people as much as they'd probably assume he was a legendary from another region. He'd be Dragon type, probably pure.
Toothless and Pikachu wouldn't be able to communicate, which would probably weird Toothless out since usually he's not this cut out from the rest of the world. I mean, Hiccup and Ash also probably speak different languages here, but it's easier for humans to learn a new language than it is for animals from different universes to do so.
For these kinds of universe shananigans I can always only think of a few main culprits, Arceus being the main one. I mean It does a lot of things for Its self without worrying about who It's using. Palkia and Dialga might not be the teleporting around type, but Giratina might meddle. And the Lake Guardians do some kind of transportation shananigans sometimes but they're not as mischievous iirc.
Thinking about Hiccup somehow meeting Lugia and being all "it's ok it's ok" *hand think* while Lugia looks at Ash and goes "is this kid fr?" And Hiccup has a heart attack because he's never heard a Dragon talk. And pokemon also usually don't so this was a surprise all around.
Them exchanging stories of how they met their life long partner.
"I uuh- I shot him down. He can't fly without the artificial tail fin I made. But hey! He got me back, didn't he? Couldn't save all of me, so-" *points* "peg leg."
*Warble*
"Woah. And you made it? Both of them?"
"Yeah. Took me a while to perfect the design but now Toothless can fly with my help. I... Tried making him one he didn't need me for, but he rejected it."
*nods* "I get it."
"We didn't get along for a while. I was scared and he was resentful. But I was also stubborn and he was curious. "
*chuckle* "Me and Pikachu didn't either."
"Yeah?"
*nods* "He didn't want a trainer, and I didn't want him as my Pokémon. But, like you, I was stubborn. And even though we didn't get along, I never would've let him get hurt."
"Naturally."
"So when a murder of Sparrow attacked us, I protected him. And then he did the same. And I think we started bonding more because of the trust and respect that came from that incident."
"Pikapi! Pi pika pika-chuu."
*nods* "True. It wasn't smooth sailing. But with time, we really came from an understanding."
"And now you're inseparable?" *Smile*
*smile back* "yeah."
I was also thinking about what pokémon Toothless would be if this was a universe fusion and not a universes meeting kinda situation and I came to the conclusion that it should be Zekrom.
C'mon. Night Furies are said to be the "unholy offspring of lightning and death itself". I can totally see some culture getting that idea if they know the original story and lore.
I don't know what the Red death would be in this scenario, but this would be like a Hisui situation with people hating or being scared of Pokemon in general. I have less ideas for universe fusions type crossover.
#me me post#pokemon httyd#pokemon#httyd#how to train your dragon#jadenoryuu if youre reading this i am still writing a response#i wrote this one handed while j had dinner because the parallels wouldnt leave me alone#but im taking the dp one more seriously#as evident by the lack of sources written in this post lmao

Another thing that I realised about why the how to train your dragon finale doesn’t make sense, and this one really annoys me; is that apparently, Toothless is such a main character specialist little boy ever that when he becomes a simp and goes underground with his flock, all of the dragons in existence everywhere just follow him???
Which I mean, no??? Ignoring the fact that he just automatically becomes the alpha of the underworld (which is total bs in its own right), him deciding to stay there somehow sent a broadcast to all dragons to come join him? Did he @ everyone in the dragon discord or what?
Also for a character so smart how did Hiccup think that sending all of Berk’s dragons away would get rid of all dragons. And since it apparently did, how did he think that would be a good idea? They’re a well established and key part of the ecosystem (nvm his society but that’s different), do you know what happens when you remove, not just a species, but an entire fucking Order of animals from the environment??? I’ll give you a hint: it’s bad, really bad.
There must be other colonies around the world, with other alphas. Like that’s literally the plot of the previous two films; we had the red death as a sort of queen bee, and then the big guy as the ‘king’ but called the alpha cuz the 2nd film was where they coined the term and made it into a whole thing. These colonies are scattered all over the place but somehow the Berk colony (not even the only group of domesticated dragons, as the 3rd film likes to show, but not tell, us. What happened to those societies?) packing up and leaving made them all decide to leave too (again how tf would they even know, pheromones and broadcast calls and what ever else don’t travel across the entire planet).
So even if that did happen, you’re telling me Toothless just walks in with his little prosthetic tail (which will eventually decay, causing his death because he is a disabled dragon that would not survive without it) and new gf (my issues with the light fury are worthy of their own post someday), comes face to face with the other colonies alphas, (aka the equivalents of other red deaths, big dudes, etc) and just wins??? A red death alone would, and nearly did, eat him alive. He survived that fight (chase sequence honestly) due to Hiccup’s brains, allowing them to exploit the previously established (but then never mentioned again) weaknesses of dragons. Not Toothless’ strength and certainly not his brains, because he is a dragon, but then ofc the third film had to make him disturbingly smart.
Like that’s not a dragon anymore that’s a guy in a fursuit. He becomes far too humanised over the course of the series. Take the first film; where he was a surprisingly clever animal, but still an animal, and compare that to the 3rd. Like the jokes in the first are that he’s a big goofy animal trying to imitate Hiccup/ communicate with him in his own dragon way, in the third he’s literally acting and emoting like a human (which he shouldn’t be full stop). There’s a difference between an intelligent animal picking up on some of the behaviours they see constantly (spending all those years with Hiccup) and him straight up acquiring a human brain. That scene w the bird dancing can be funny but why tf is Hiccup gesturing and communicating with him in a way that would only work with a person. Try that shit with the original toothless, or literally any other dragon, and see how that goes.
In fact, put toothless (and the light fury) next to any of the other main dragons in the 3rd film and watch the difference in behaviour. The 2nd film started to push it with him and cloud jumper, but it was still somewhat at a level where it was believable that some dragon species were smarter like that, eg the intelligence of corvids vs other birds. The best example of being well trained and in tune w their human without becoming an almost uncanny valley human/dragon abomination is stormfly (cloud jumper is close but like I said they’re pushing it)
Honestly even at the end of the second film they were starting to main character-ify toothless; that scene could’ve still played out the same without making him glow, it annoyed me then and it just got worse in the third. Night-furies went from a unique but still plausible species (as in still an animal) in the context of this world to almost mythical beings who keep coming up w new bs powers.
The way the conflict was resolved in the first film was plausible and believable for the creatures they just spent the entire run time analysing (fire proof on the outside, not so much inside. Plus all the other stuff the kids were doing. Ik it might have felt a bit cliche and childish like ‘look we’re all using the tactics we told you about earlier!’ But that’s literally why they were taught them, to fight dragons). The second wasn’t totally far off, it explored dragon social dynamics and explained the concept of alphas and how they work (also clearly intending for you to look back and realise the red death was the alpha, they even play basically the same buzzing noise for when they’re under control) but then they made him glow at the end. It would’ve been so easy and plausible to say something like ‘oh most of these guys were part of the red death colony, which they watched toothless kill so they already accept him as their alpha’ but instead he had to have a mc power up moment. The third just went ‘fuck it he’s an anime character now’. Like think about it, basically none of the tactics and things we were told/shown were facts about dragons in the first, come up in the later movies. Like yeah ‘they don’t need to explain all that to us again’ but there’s a difference between that and just completely erasing it from the world building.
Night-furies are the equivalent of like some deep sea species we didn’t know much about back in the day because they were only seen when they came up to the surface on rare occasions, then we got a hold of one and everything checked out when compared to related species but unlike them it’s capable of bioluminescence which is like ‘oh cool, interesting.’ But then a couple years later it turns out if you stress it out it can somehow become a superconductor for some fucking reason. A couple more years later and it seems it’s capable of fucking teleportation. Can you see what I’m getting at here?
Ik the films were always going to end with the dragons leaving. Like in both book and film the first line is: ‘ONCE, there WERE dragons…’ I just hate how it ended up being done. As a Zoologist it has me screaming, crying and throwing up.
‘Oh well of course it’s bad to you, you’re putting a kids movie under professional scrutiny’ NO BECAUSE THEY DID IT SO WELL IN THE FIRST FILM. Watching it told me they knew how to do this right and then the sequels were worse instead of better. I’m not even saying they had to go further in-depth and stuff for the sequels to be good, what I’m saying is I was at least expecting them to keep to the same standard instead of letting it fucking plummet.
Idk man the first film was so good at establishing the dragons as actual animals and exploring them as different species but then it felt like with each consecutive film they fired more and more of whatever zoologists they had on the writers team for the first.

Your AU has dragon gods?
I am very interested. Tell me more please ^_^
ive talked about them very briefly before and they are a little more involved in claws and calls. but I love them so! I'll link the first post for record keeping but ill cover that and more here
Basically the dragons have three main gods with each species having personal deities that were once normal dragons that achieved godhood through some feat or through their nature, like gaining sainthood or legendary status.
but back to the main three.
Fyrwynd, Erthabyrth, and Monewaeg
Im going to ramble so heres a cut for the scroller. Feel free to ask about any part of this!!
None of these have a set species or gender or size. they shift as needed for dragons. worship mostly consists of piling bones a certain way and shooting off venom, fire, or what ever projectiles they can, and asking them for aid and giving thanks
Fyrwynd- god of fire, flying, life, day, sun, wind, storms, joy and fear.
This dragon will normally look like a long snakish dragon with hundreds of wings (but can have fewer) they normally are made of fire or storm clouds when visiting. Nightfurys, skrills, and most speedy flying trick dragons tend to worship fyrwynd the most.
Erthabyrth- god of earth/rock/land, nesting, defense, ice, stars, volcanoes, death and birth
She normally appears as made of stone, or exploding lava, or dense ice. Their body typically has two wings and four legs. dragons with thick armor and dragons about to lay eggs worship them. especially gronckles.
Monewaeg- god of the sea/ocean/water, moon, swimming, fighting, venom, pain and healing
This dragon normally appears made of water or moonlight or both. they have two legs and two wings when they arrive, with acid/venom dripping from their mouth. Changewings and Nadders typically hold them as their main god.
Okay! onto creation myth as told by hiccup in claws and calls in chapter 54.
--
As he begins to sing, the dragons around him still their constant sounds, adults, and fledglings both settling to listen to the tale.
It is one of the first that Toothless had told him after Hiccup had gained an understanding of dragonese. It took place at dawn as they flew high above the clouds, golds and oranges chasing the purples and blues of the night and the stars winked out one by one.
“~There once was nothing. No ground, sky, or water. Darkness could not exist because fire did not provide light to see it.~”
Hiccup begins to pet the two small dragons in his arms, comforted by their rumbling. The song is a rolling tune with no true beat. It rolls with growls and chirps.
“~There was a great breath from the Unnameable in that shade and light burst forth, creating light and dark. Three layers could be seen, presses tight like the layers of rock. The sky, the water, and the land. Fyrwynd fell from the light and flapped her wings, forcing the sky to rise from the water. Erthabryth awoke and pushed up from the depths of the water to form the lands. Monewaeg churned up the water and spat the moon into the sky to light the night as Fyrwynd slept.~”
He goes into details of each of the three god’s attempts to form life on their own. But only by joining together did dragon-kind form. He mentions the sneezes of the Unnameable forming other gods and letting humans and other creatures form but keeps the focus on the three main dragon gods.
--
then there is my own silly story for the subspecies of nadder told by Silverbreath in chapter 54
--
His eyes widen as Silverbreath lifts her head from Duskclaw’s back and responds with her own tale, dragons all silently and respectfully listening.
“~Monewaeg grew weary of seeing dragons only breathe fire and lava and gas and turned to Erthabyrth to create a new dragon. They consulted the first Nadder, admiring her spines and tail, and asked that she let her newest eggs be touched.~”
The Frost Nadder whispers out a tale in which the first Nadder got the gods to gift her children all sorts of powers, with Duster crooning along with the tune. Other Nadders chirp along. Hiccup listens closely trying to memorize each line. Stories are important. History is important. When she finishes the song, Hiccup softly speaks.

Melodía nods. “Trust me, I know what that’s like.” The whole situation where she had found Hiccup’s room empty proved that.
She looks up at the jellyfish as well, happy to stay a bit longer. She'll definitely miss it too.
The mermaid nods excitedly, smiling at him. ”Yes! That one is my favorite! Gosh, there’s so much to show you, its gonna be so fun!”
Sitting up, she stretches a bit before taking Fredrick in her hands and kissing him. “Goodbye, Fredrick. We’ll see you next time.” The little jelly wiggles a bit, swimming to Melodía’s head, then Hiccup’s, before floating back up to be with the others.
*****
They made their way back to the castle, saying their goodbyes to Triton. He would be sending them back in another tidal wave, but this time he wouldn’t be going back with them.
The king was currently still holding Melodía tightly in a big hug that had lasted for over a few minutes.
“I love you, Papa.” The princess tells him again, giving him a gentle squeeze.
“I love you, Mellie.” He says softly. “Safe travels. I’m going to miss you.”
“I’ll miss you too.” Gently, she pulls back, smiling at him. “But I’ll be back.”
The merman nods, reluctantly letting her go before swimming to Hiccup and putting a hand on his shoulder. “Get her home safe, lad. I trust you will.” He then swims back a bit, holding out his trident and letting the magical currents carry them. Ttheeni and Heracles had joined the two of them for the ride home. Triton waves to them as the wave lifts them above the surface, Melodía waving back with a melancholy smile.
****
Melodía had enjoyed the ride home with Hiccup, sticking her head above the crest of the wave to let the wind flow through her hair. She was going to miss her grandfather, and being a mermaid again, just a bit. But she was also excited to return to Berk, especially as Hiccup’s new fiancé.
The wave slowly dissipates at the outskirts of Berk, lowering them into the water. Looking at the island, the mermaid takes the Viking’s hand, smiling.
“We’re home.”
Giggling excitedly, she then takes him by the hand, swimming towards it with him as Ttheeni and Heracles follow behind. But before going up to the island, she takes him down a bit, swimming over the reef until they get to a small little underwater grotto. She pauses at the entrance, her tail wagging happily as she beams at him.
“Okay… you ready to see it?”
He smiled back at her warmly. "I can't wait to see it!"
Hiccup chuckled as the jellyfish settled into his head. "See you soon, little guy!"
----------
Hiccup waited patiently as Melodía and Triton said their goodbyes, knowing how close they were.
When it was his turn, he gave a determined nod. "She's safe with me, sir."
As the ocean king conjured the magical current, Hiccup realized that Triton was the one to change him into a merman...how would he change back?
Before he sent them off, Hiccup tentatively raised a hand. "Uh...with all due respect...how will I become human again?" He knew Melodía's necklace granted her the power to transform herself, but did it work on others as well?
--------
He had Melodía's hand in his the whole way back, the sea air rustling his auburn hair.
After all this time in saltwater, he'd probably have to rinse off once they got back to land.
As Berk came into view, he found himself glad to be home, and excited to see Toothless again, but the last few days had been so incredible that he wasn't quite ready to get out of the water just yet.
He allowed her to lead him to the grotto, floating beside her by the entrance.
Beaming at her, he nodded. "Of course! Lead the way, Milady!"

MORE ABT MY HTTYD AU >:D
Just to recap/finalize:
Raph:
• A stormcutter
• Protective, one of the main alphas in the nest (Donnie is the other)
• The third to accept MC as part of the nest
• Is twice the size of normal stormcutters
• His role as alpha is more to protect then provide
Donnie:
• Razorwhip
• Analytical, the first, and the one who brings MC to the nest
• He’s missing a large portion of his tail and has extremely soft scales due to a birth defect, he wears armor made out of other razorwhip shedding
• He provides as an alpha and prefers to provide rather than protect. He goes and steals from islands until MC comes along and shows them FISH.
Leo:
• A Death Song
• when AU properly starts (HTTYD 2) he STILL doesn’t trust MC
• Missing a horn and his tail fin is torn up
• Helps keep the nest calm, the balancer of the scale
Mikey:
• a hobblegrunt!!
• the second to properly trust MC
• blind, highly dependent on his brothers and MC
• dragon empath <3
The Nest:
In all honesty, I was having issues imagining the nest. My mind kept flip flopping from a scary inactive volcano like the Queens nest from the first movie, or a lush paradise from the second. I eventually settled on how New Berk looks from the third movie. The island itself is completely surrounded by tall rocks and deep forests that scare any Vikings away. Not to mention the constant dragon calls that echo out from anywhere. The deeper you walk the scarier it gets before finally…it comes to a lush paradise
Side Characters (still Hamato family, just not the brothers)/New Things:
Splinter:
Monsterus Nightmare <3
You gonna have to hear me out: Monsterus Nightmares are shown to be lazy but can kick ass
He’s more of a grandpa resting dragon, he rarely intervenes and trusts his sons to lead the nest
LOVES MC, especially when MC started to clean off his old shed and spend time with him
April:
Deadly Nader
From the show: “ The Deadly Nadder. Piercing spines, loyal, powerful...” “ Intelligent, and, of course, deadly."
Untrusting of MC but growing closer to them after seeing them try to treat all the bros with kindness
One of the main guards and hunters for the nest, she used to scout before getting injured by a Viking and having her wing torn
Cassandra:
Night fury (yes I did use a picture of toothless)
I immediately knew what to do for her, it’s just a gut feeling
Cassandra is the main guard for the nest, she’s larger then normal night furies
She doesn’t trust MC at all but respects MC because the Alphas say to
Casey Jr:
Night light
I feel like he’d still be an egg when MC is introduced
I’ve messed with the timeline a bit so Cass has him when they’re all still younger (it’d make sense because they’re dragons <3)
He trusts MC and constantly is sneaking away from the nest, all the other dragon young following him
Draxum:
Screaming Death
He was brought into the nest by Mikey after he got lost in the woods
In this AU he isn’t related to the bros (neither is splinter, they’re all adopted. that isn’t a excuse don’t be gross guys)
Literally hates MC, tried to eat them, 0/10
Gargoyles:
Night Terrors!!!
They’re so silly
Trusts MC with their lives
Hunts for Draxum
i fucking hate mobile Tumblr so I’ll post a picture of Night Terrors in the comments <3
When this au takes place:
So in the canon, it’d start at the beginning of the first movie, the entire first movie MC is at the nest and just trying to get comfortable. The second movie is when MC really takes an active role, during the Netflix shows timeline MC meets Valka and bonds over their nests. Valka calls MC for help during the second movie, causing MC to lose the nest and the boys. MC helps Berk move but when Hiccup told them to let the dragons go they refused and took the nest and left. Saying that Hiccup should never have asked that and they will aid Berk when they fail due to their loss (rough draft but the majority of the AU happens during the second movie)

ok so a while back i made a post for my ideas about a rewrite of httyd 3 and I just kinda wanna make another post to clean it up around the edges and get my au straight, this will include: no grimmel, the light fury not being a love interest, my hc that night furies are titan wing light furies and people giving a fuck about the deathgrippers
alrighty, since the events of httyd 2 berk has adapted to the new influx of dragons, starting to bleed into nearby islands or sending dragons to go live alongside their allies from the shows (because that call back is necessary). the opening stays much the same with the riders raiding a hunters ship (that scene was so cool fight me), on the ship they find a very large pack of death grippers alongside a single light fury. all of the dragons are quite aggressive but toothless being the cool macho king he is tells them to shut up and come with them. upon inspection of all of the information they could find relating to the new dragon species they had just found they discover that death grippers and light furies are not native to this side of the world, thus why they have never been seen before, they also find out that night furies are titan wings and are extremely rare (now there is a reason for there being a lack of night furies rather than they were hunted down).
because the light fury and her band of death grippers don't seem to be very friendly they decide that it is best to keep them in the cove, where they will have minimal contact with humans so they don't get overwhelmed (something that they commonly do for traumatized dragons). as the story progresses some of the death grippers begin to get comfier and comfier with the riders, though the light fury and a few of them still keep their distance. eventually, hiccup decides that maybe bonding with the light fury in a different environment would work, so he puts the solo flying tail he has been making for toothless to the test (the tail is made for the purpose of both of them being able to solo fly with more ease because hiccup will not let that go). during toothless and the light furies solo flight she shows him the cool disappearing trick so toothless tries it himself, unfortunately due to the fact hiccup didn't know he needed to make the tail lightning-proof for the test run it gets broken.
once landed (probably not very safely) the light fury sees that his tail is fake and we get a scene of them with toothless explaining the story to her (accompanied by very well done theatrics) its discovered she doesn't like the story much. that night a large attack takes place, with the light fury leading it alongside some of the less friendly death grippers. a bunch of chaos ensues but toothless finally manages to get her down and make her call off the attack. in the end hiccup reaches out to her, similar to the scene in httyd 1 (heheheheh I'm great at making references) and the light fury seeing his mercy and desire to help accepts him. after this exchange she and some of her party leave to return to their homeland (which just so happens to be the hidden world) but most of the dragons decide that they prefer to live with the humans and that's totally cool
not as final as the actual movie but if we r going to wrap up this series I don't want it to end with a huge of everybody leaving so only the people that wanna leave :D that doesn't look right lol but anyway enjoy this entire ass book I wrote. and please please please ask questions about this au I wanna get into the gory details
#yeah im making a whole nother post about this#because i can#i am very passionate about my dumb little aus as u can see#sorry if the paragraphs are blocky#spacing is non existent when im rambling#httyd#httyd au

Ok so hear me out-
Since I'm still upset about httyd 3 and feel like things could have ended better... what if the dragons didn't leave at the end and instead Berk worked to build a new safe place for the dragons. As time goes on, the dragons' range gets smaller and smaller until New Berk is the only place left for dragons to go. By then Hiccup is gone and Toothless is still the alpha but now a legendary night fury. Hiccup's grandkids now notice that some dragons are disappearing into the sea and not coming back, many seem to expect Toothless to follow but Hiccup's saddle is still strapped to him and no one has been able to go near him since his rider's passing. The kids search through their granddad's old books and find notes of a hidden world and plans to bring the dragons there when the time came to say goodbye but if the alpha can't fly how can he lead them? In another book are blueprints for a tail fin for Toothless that will allow him to fly on his own. With some adjustments and help from the villagers, a new tail fin is fashioned for Toothless and miraculously Toothless allows Hiccup's grandkids to put the fin on and he flies away. The alpha's roar rings through village as dragons begin to take flight and follow their leader to a new home, many of the villagers saying a tearful goodbye to their beloved friends. The next day, the kids walk out to see the saddle their grandad made for Toothless on the ground, the straps worn and broken, Toothless growls from the rooftop and slinks over allowing the kids onto his back. Toothless takes them into the hidden world and shows them that the dragons are safe and belong deep below the sea where no one can find them. When the kids return to Berk, they tell everyone what happened and excitedly visit their granddad's final resting place to tell him that the dragons are ok and Toothless is still the greatest alpha the hidden world had seen.
I just feel like that would be a more beautiful ending
#its 2am#so sorry if this sucks#just thinking about dragons#and im still salty that the most beautiful friendship ended with a smooth white dragon#there was an attempt#and it could have been better#anyway#httyd#how to train your dragon#httyd 3

I love having disabled friends because they’re so much more understanding when I say “my symptoms are getting really bad, I have to go”. Disabled folk are like “yes, please, shoo before you get hurt”. This is an appropriate response. A lot of non-disabled people act as if it’s a huge hassle.

I really wish people would understand that when it comes to LGBTQIA+ identities, "I don't get it but I respect you" is good??? Do not make fun of identities you "dont get". You don't *have* to get it. The human experience is weird and chaotic and that's why it's beautiful

Strange Gifts
Apparently I wrote a bittersweet Valentine’s Day Vigcup fic for @evilwriter37. Hope you like it!
Rating: General Audiences
Pairings: Vigcup, Hiccstrid
Characters: Hiccup Haddock III, Viggo Grimborn, Astrid Hofferson, Toothless
Warnings: None that I would have to mark on AO3, Not exactly HTTYD 3 compliant, Viggo Lives.
Of course, it’s on Ao3 if you want an easier reading experience: Strange Gifts
But also under a read more if the hellsite is more your speed:
It was the winter after they left the Edge, Stoick had thrown Hiccup into the deep end. His days were filled with shadowing his farther in decision making, aiding repairs, wrangling Sven’s sheep that got out for the millionth time (and this time they were not allowed a dragon race). The moments he could get to himself during the day, used to take care of his leg and Toothless’s saddle and fin from the cold, weren’t enough to refresh his mind. As he shlumped into his room, body sagging from the exhaustion of the day, he almost didn’t notice the small bottle on his bedside table. He looked at it, not remembering putting it there, and picked it up, examining it. It was a nicer bottle of ink than he had ever bought himself, he could never justify the cost for a bottle this nice, let alone the quality of the contents. Suspicion grew when Toothless sniffed the bottle and the room, narrowing his eyes with a slight growl, but he never found the source, nothing else had been changed in his room.
A year later, he had nearly forgotten about the bottle of ink. His mind was on other things, mending the frayed edges of his and Toothless’s relationship-- it wasn’t his fault but they both needed to remember that-, making sure the tribe had enough rations to last the cold months that remained—especially if they ran long, getting Gobber to stop being pushy about his and Astrid’s relationship, building a relationship with his mother, keeping Ruffnut from harassing Eret too much, and more filled the list. But when he went to his room, still up the stairs—he couldn’t bear to take his father’s room even though he was told he could—on his table he found an intricately carved comb and case, laid out as if to show its impressive craftsmanship. Surrounded by patterns on the edges of the case, was a stylized Night Fury, missing the left tail fin. Yet, there was no trace of whoever left it. It raised his concerns for a few weeks, with the look that Toothless gave it after smelling the room, not quite furious, but definitely giving the item a suspicious glare.
Somehow, the gifts had followed him to New Berk, the same time of year, another obviously well-crafted item, a cloak pin made of gold that looked nearly woven into the shape of dragons curled around each other. This time, since in New Berk his sense of smell was better during winter compared to original Berk for some reason he couldn’t explain, he could smell a slight amount of ash and ozone. He took it to the other Dragon Riders, explaining that this was the third year in a row, that nothing else had ever changed, but Toothless had always seemed suspicious, and they had followed them. With the smell of ash, he was worried it was a threat, although it was rather expensive for a threat. For the safety of their people, they kept an eye out for clues for whomever must have followed them. They found nothing, not even any suspicious footprints outside of Hiccup and Astrid’s home.
This time, he had nearly expected the item on his table when he came back from his duties. A leather-bound book awaited him, the designed tooled into the leather made him feel like he was missing something, as if he knew what it was but couldn’t bring it to the front of his mind. Inside was details of some of the locations of useful herbs and plants within the woods and along the neighboring islands, although he was suspicious of the gifts still and the writing itself also triggered the nagging feeling as if he recognized it but couldn’t place it, he couldn’t say he was completely ungrateful. They still had much to learn about the area and knowing that Gothi and her future replacement would have the herbs she needed to take care of the tribe’s health took some of the weight off the young chief’s shoulders.
To the concern of the tribe, thunder-snow had come upon their new home, but it wasn’t the only commotion of the day. It had started slow, with Terrible Terrors flocking to Gothi all to familiarly, but over the day, the dragons had found them, as if they missed them too much to stay away even for their own safety. Toothless had greeted Hiccup with a lick all up his front, and Hiccup struggled to even pretend to be mad about it not washing out. The Light Fury had followed Toothless, but stayed away from the people, instead leading several other dragons into the woods. He couldn’t figure out what changed, or why they were back, but having his best friend back made him feel more complete, even as he argued with Toothless that they had to go back for their own safety. Toothless merely made a judging face, nudged Astrid’s stomach incredibly gently, before looking at Hiccup as if he was asking ‘You think we aren’t raising our hatchlings together?’ Hiccup stared at Astrid, question in his eyes, and grinned as she nodded back. It was only as he walked back into their room when he remembered the time of year, only reminded by the darkened silver and ruby pendant, that must have been custom due to its similarity to Toothless. He looked out the window, wondering if he could see any trace of who left it, and once again was met with nothing. But when he looked at the sky, he could have sworn he saw the shape of a Skrill with a person on its back illuminated by the lightning. The pieces clicked in his mind, the reason everything was so obviously expensive, well-crafted, the familiar handwriting-- if a bit changed, the familiar patterns, and why they had smelled faintly like ozone when he noticed it. He couldn’t be certain, he had never actually seen a trace of the man—he kept his word, but he knew.

My Favorite Films I Watched In 2022.
My Favorite Films I Watched in 2022.
Note 1. These are films I watched in 2022. Not that were all released in 2022. Note 2. This is a subjective ranking based on how much I enjoyed the film. Not necessarily based on the quality of the film.
1. The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (1966) - A bounty hunting scam joins two men in an uneasy alliance against a third in a race to find a fortune in gold buried in a remote cemetery. (This film is very well-made. I wouldn't put it on for a random lazy afternoon, but I strongly recommend everyone watch it once.)
2. How To Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) - When Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. (Quality sequel.)
3. Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022) - Thirty years after their popular television show ended, chipmunks Chip and Dale live very different lives. When a cast member from the original series mysteriously disappears, the pair must reunite to save their friend. (This is a fun, spiritual successor to 'Roger Rabbit'. I really enjoyed this flick.)
4. Child's Play (1988) - A single mother gives her son a much sought-after doll for his birthday, only to discover that it is possessed by the soul of a serial killer. (This is a fun, sometimes creepy horror flick. I had seen parts of this film through the years, but this is the year I sat and watched it in one sitting.)
5. Onward (2020) - Two elven brothers embark on a quest to bring their father back for one day. (Great concept. Good execution. And it had me getting a bit misty-eyed a few times.)
6. The Fox And The Hound 2 (2006) - Tod and Copper still go together like an itch and a scratch, but when Copper gets a shot at the big time with a nutty group of hound dog howlers, their purebred friendship is put to the test. (Look, this ranking is entirely based on Reba McEntire voicing 'Dixie'.)
7. Jane Eyre (1943) - After a harsh childhood, orphan Jane Eyre is hired by Edward Rochester, the brooding lord of a mysterious manor house, to care for his young daughter. (Joan Fontaine and Orson Welles are good in this film. I have never read the book.)
8. Sahara (1943) - After the fall of Tobruk in 1942, during the Allied retreat in the Libyan desert, an American tank picks-up a motley group of survivors but they face advancing Germans and a lack of water. (Solid war film. Humphrey Bogart is good, as usual, in it.)
9. Balto II: Wolf Quest (2001) - Balto and his daughter Aleu embark on a journey of adventure and self discovery. (I like the first 'Balto' quite a bunch, and that bias definitely boosts this sequel in my rankings.)
10. Fiend Without A Face (1958) - A scientist's thoughts materialize as an army of invisible brain-shaped monsters (complete with spinal-cord tails!) who terrorize an American military base in this nightmarish chiller. (I've seen a bunch of old horror and sci-fi flicks. This one is pretty good. Pretty good effects as well for the time.)
Honorable Mentions - Turning Red (2022), Guys And Dolls (1955), The Women (1939), Day The World Ended (1955), Pet Sematary (1989), and For Me And My Gal (1942).
According to my log on Letterboxd, I have seen 93 films for the first time in 2022. That number will be higher in 2023.

Httyd characters seeing you in their clothes
ft. hiccup, tuffnut, eret, snotlout, astrid, ruffnut
⤷ Hiccup
Hiccup was in his workroom working on new tail for Toothless when he heard your steps. He didn't turn to look at you but it was past a midnight so who else would be in his house. 'It's late darling, you should go to sleep' he said. You hugged him from behind and that was the moment when he saw sleeve from his green t-shirt. He turns to look at you and saw you in his t-shirt. 'Come to the bed with me, I will help you with this tomorrow.' you said. Hiccup was still admiring you but nod and kiss your forehead. 'You should wear it more often you look cute.' he said before going in a bed with you.
⤷ Tuffnut
You were with Ruffnut babysitting Meatlug's babies because she had toothache so Fishlegs took her to Gobber. And you both were dirty when you come back into her house because babysitting those demons isn't easy. You decided to change but you didn't have a spare clothes. So Ruffnut gave you some shirt. When you changed you heard Ruffnut yelling at someone. You came to her to see what's happening and saw Tuffnut who was searching for his shirt and when he turn to yell back at his sister, he freeze. You have his t-shirt and you looked super cute. A smirk show up on his face when he said: 'Never mind, you look better in it anyways, cutie.'
⤷ Eret
It was cold outside and when it's cold weather at Berk, it's freezing inside the house. Eret was helping some viking with his ship but he should be back in a few minutes. You were freezing, you had socks and t-shirt with long sleeves but it wasn't enough. You saw Eret's bear fur so you decided to put it on because it looked very warm. After a few minutes Eret came home and saw you sleeping on a couch. He also noticed you had his bear fur. But you looked really peaceful so he didn't wake you up. He just kissed your head and whisper little 'sweet dreams'. But he would definitely tease you tomorrow about it, just a little
⤷ Snotlout
Snotlout was in his room searching for new t-shirt because Hookfang 'accidentally' burn the one he was wearing. But he couldn't find any. Suddenly you open the door to his bedroom and peaked out your head to look at him. 'Do you want something to eat?' you asked him. It was around 3 p.m. and Snotlout didn't have a lunch, yet so you thought he maybe is hungry. He turn to look and answer you but instead of answering, he smirk. 'Oh look what we got here, you look hot babe, but yes I'm hungry.' he said when he smacked your ass, making his way into the kitchen.
⤷ Astrid
You were sick and Astrid was on her way to your house with some medicine. When she open the door of your bedroom she saw how messy you were. You had pale skin and you looked very very tired. But that wasn't the only thing she saw. She also saw you in her red t-shirt which she was trying to find for days. 'How are you feeling baby? Also you look amazing in your new clothes' she teased a bit. You smiled at her while you tapped on an empty place right next to you. Astrid understood really quickly and come to you for cuddles. She put her arms around your waist and pulled you closer. She doesn't care if she would get sick, she just wants to cuddle you.
⤷ Ruffnut
Ruffnut and you had sleepover in her house because Tuffnut was with Snoutlout. Ruffnut was in the kitchen making some easy food. So you had a time to change into your pyjama. But you had different idea. Right now you were looking in Ruffnut's closet, for some shirt you could sleep in. And you find a perfect one. It was her dark blued t-shirt. When you changed, Ruffnut opened the door. 'I made some food and drinks for us and- oohhh look like I have here sweet dessert.' she said. She made her way to you, put her hands around your neck and kiss your lips.

i think it says a lot about hiccup and toothless that they are the only riders that really seem like friends. like equals.
the other riders can often times come off as treating their dragons like pets or any other animal, especially fishlegs, who in tgotnf literally tied meatlug down whereas hiccup made toothless a new tail fin that allowed him to have more control and bodily autonomy.
i feel like you could replace the dragons with horses or dogs or something and the relationship between the riders and the dragons would still make sense.
for everyone but hiccup and toothless.
if you were to replace the dragons with humans, the relationship between the riders and the dragons just. wouldn’t make sense anymore.
for everyone but hiccup and toothless.
and it says a lot about both characters. for toothless, it shows how intelligent he really is and how much about humans and human concepts he really understands. for hiccup, it shows just how much he respects toothless and how much he really loves him.
hiccup and toothless, you can really believe they’re best friends, the other riders? not so much.
anyway, hiccup and toothless superiority. best relationship between rider and dragon.
