A mix of headcanons I read and immediately accepted, and a few I came up with on my own:

• Hiccup is always cold

• Before dragon riding, he liked to bird watch

• Astrids name is tattooed on his chest (idk if it was an official comic or fanart where I saw that) and Gobber was the one to tattoo him

• Since Toothless loves to chew on his prosthetic, he keeps a fresh, clean cloth in his armor to clean it before putting it back on, unless he's in a hurry, then he'll clean it later

• His shoulders and arms are freckled

• He has burn scars on his leg stump and back

• The man is always up early. He doesn't sleep in. Unless he's sick

• He also stays up late working on projects and forgets to eat (though I know this is widely accepted as canon, may actually BE canon)

• When phantom pains hit, he uses a sleeping tonic from Gothi at night in order to sleep despite the pain

• He lives alone until he marries Astrid, his mom gets her own hut once she moves back to Berk

• He loves mutton stew, it's his favorite

• He blames himself for Stoick's death, as he put the events leading to that into motion

Hiccup Headcanon time again:

The Lichtenberg Figure scar's from when he was struck by lightning stretch from the back of his neck, down around his left arm, it takes up MOST of his back, and even dips a little over his hip.

In THW when Toothless conducted his electricity, Hiccup was so wracked in pain in those scars that he felt like he was burning alive.

Afterward the scar had spread, it takes up half his chest, the bicep of his right arm, his left thigh.

They burn in cold weather, so he takes to wearing thicker and sturdier clothes.

Hiccstrid is crazy because it's Hiccup "would kill for her" Haddock and Astrid "would die for him" Hofferson, not the other way round.

Yeah in any other case it's Hiccup 'would die for a cause/person' and Astrid 'would kill for cause/person' but when it comes to each other? Hiccup has canonically been ready to kill for Astrid, as in blast-a-man-to-bits with Toothless and let a nearly extinct dragon be slaughtered. And whenever Hiccup is in danger and Astrid is there she's the one who pushes him out of the way, endangering herself. Like with the Death Song, the Light Fury, girl was ready to sacrifice herself for the young chief.

I just think it's cool how much these two love each other they're willing to go farther than they ever would in any other occasion.

Hiccup is a prime example of that specific type of autism where you were ostracized for being different as a kid then later in life struggle to empathize with other people and are better at relating to and connecting with animals.

Like that scene when they were on the ship they found the dragon eye in??? They see the bones of dragons and Hiccup is visibly disturbed and upset that Toothless has to be seeing this, then like less than a minute later he pries something out of the hand of a human skeleton and has little to no reaction to seeing it other than 'ew'

Most of the protagonist characters have this awe-inspiringly scary glare when they are angry or determined. It makes people around them either hesitate or admire them, depending on their respective relationship with the character.

But Hiccup, Oh My God!

His glare isn't scary! Like, all my fav characters have that glare which could halt enemies and friends alike but Hiccup's glare is just... a petulant half pout

It's hilarious and adorable. He can't glare! Cjjfjdjckvk no wonder nobody takes his glares seriously. Villains look at this boy glaring at them and never get afraid, they always chuckle or hold back a chuckle. They all probably internally go, oh that is a child

And then, shadows shift behind him and everyone loses track of their thoughts on Hiccup's adorably childish looking glares and their attention snap to the dark veil looking over his head like a dark winged cloak, a deep rumble of a growl vibrating the air and sending every heartbeat shooting skyhigh and every breath hitching in terror as slitted depths of green stare into their souls, daring anyone to harm the human under their protection.

Hiccup doesn't have a scary glare. But Toothless does. And he more than makes up for the lack of it

I heard you accepted opinions than httyd, could I ask for one? maybe a headcanoon about Hiccup x reader, maybe "how Hiccup would show love to the reader or what would happen if he was jealous", thank you for considering it.

Warnings(?): Hiccup is a lil jealous. A/n: thank you for the request <3! I hope I brought what you were asking for with the headcanons! (I feel like it's a bit short, but here you go! Notes: takes place after httyd 2 and before the plot of httyd 3.

Jealousy has a sword

First off, Hiccup wouldn't be one to get jealous that quickly, although he is protective and such, he trusts you to know that you won't do anything that'll purposefully hurt him in that way.

This doesn't mean he can ignore the pricking feelings of jealousy whenever someone or something else is taking up a lot of your time - more than usual.

He has a habit of checking on you throughout the day, even if his schedule is brimmed with chiefly duties, it's his desire to make sure you're just overall okay. So when he finds himself being more occupied throughout the day and gets the word that you're spending your time with other people, he feels somewhat guilty that he can't be that person who's giving you some attention.

Then the jealousy kicks in.

Especially if it's Eret; he trusts the guy now but he isn't dumb - almost everyone says he is extremely handsome and well-built. He knows you wouldn't do anything with him but he just doesn't like it if he's the one who's with you the most throughout your daily tasks.

"So, how was your day?" He'd ask. You hummed, embracing him into a warm hug that he initiated. "It was nice. I got to go on patrol with Astrid, help put out a couple of fires - again - and, oh, Eret helped me a bit with my sword fighting. After that I was in-"

"Wait, wait, wait. You said who helped you out?" Hiccup slightly broke out of the hug to look at you as you questioningly gazed back at him.

"Uhm, Eret?" You remained still in your spot as you watched him deeply sigh, his head turning towards the ground, allowing his hair to barely brush against your face. "Is ... something the matter..?"

Hiccup shook his head, his hair tickling your nose in the slightest, as he lifted his eyes to meet yours while he spoke hesitantly: "N-no, I just-" he sighed once again as he stared at you, fumbling over his words. As though he had given up on speaking, he gently pulled you closer, allowing your lips to meet. The kiss held an earnestness and passion that was disguised by the delicate way he handled you. He took his time pulling away from you, only doing it because of the necessary oxygen you both needed while he took in every detail on your face.

"Nothing's wrong.. I suppose.. but you do know that you can always come to me for that kind of stuff, right?" He leaned his forehead against yours, auburn hair mixing with yours at the touch.

You were flustered at his response, fighting against the temptation to stutter in your speech; "Yeah, I know... but you're more busy now and I wouldn't want to make you feel more stressed or anything-"

Hiccup was quick to interrupt you as he shut down your statement: "No. You wouldn't be doing anything bad to me if you came and asked for my help in something. I want you to do that." His answer seemed to be more urgent than he wanted, making him clear his throat from the embarrassment that began to creep upon him, "W-when you're a available, that is.." He let out a breath that looked as though he were exhaling all negative feelings away. "Y'know what, I'm making a new plan. From now on, we'll meet every day to better improve your sword techniques. Sound good?"

You were shocked, to say the least, by his answer. It took a lot of convincing to tell him that it shouldn't be every single day this happens, for the sake of his schedule and the things he has to do on certain occasions. He's the Chief now, not a teenage kid running away from his problems anymore - which made him a little bit sour when he thought about it.

In the end, after practicing your sword fighting every other day, he just went right back into doing it everyday instead. Even moreso after Snotlout had tried to spar with you. Hiccup felt more "entitled" to do that specific activity with you - for some odd reason.

(He just really likes to do this with you, especially with Inferno.)

"Hiccup, it's not like we don't see each other everyday as it is-"

"Shush. We're gonna meet everyday and work on this. It's for your benefit anyways. "

He definitely feels like it's one of the ways he can show his love for you, if not the most important one: by giving you his time.

(That's why he's so protective over being the person that helps you with your sword fighting.)

Here we have Chief Hiccup and Winter Spirit Jack

Nice throwback to my God of War days for inspo. Hiccup’s a bit of a mix of Kratos/Odin/Tyr while Jack is a mix of Baldur/Freya + Pandora from the old games.

I swear to all that is good, if someone calls him Jokul Frosti one more time I’m gonna rant- Actually fuck it ima rant in advance.

People really like the idea of Jack being “Jokul Frosti”, especially if they are exploring concepts with an old setting where Jack is further back in time. I loved it when I first came across it because duh pretty awesome. And ofc many believe that is where the name “Jack Frost” derived from. It’s cool. However, I have since done enough research to decide this isn’t very accurate.

In Norse mythology the God of wind and voice, Kari, has two sons. Some sources say otherwise and that it’s just one son - Jokul Frosti, but fuck that, my sources are older.

Kari has *two* sons - Jokul AND Frosti. They were two bros. Their names mean Icicle and Frost. Jokul went on to have a bunch of kids who were all very winter themed. It also makes more sense bc (especially in Norse stuff) it’s very odd to come across a mythological figure with two names. Think of all the gods you know, MOST are going by one. Plus it’s weird…like why is his name two things? Icicle Frost? What? Pick one. Brev it don’t make sense. It don’t add up. Most minor Norse gods are having just the one main brand right? (The big dogs like Odin, Freya, Freyr etc etc usually have side hustles tho, but we ain’t talking about them).

So what I think has happened is that somewhere down the line, probably through oral conversation, the two brothers and their names got merged into one person. Then after the merge, Jack Frost came about, hence our predicament.

Like- ya’ll do wut ya want but I personally think the Winter Twins are a better idea for our fan stuff. In my headcanon (and in my fic) they are more like Jack’s wacky adopted-uncle-types that left him their power after they kicked the bucket cos they thought he was a pretty cool mortal. Like Manny brought him back but like- so did they at the same time. Double whammy. Anyways. ✌️thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.

Some Hiccup head canons I have 👍

Rtte timeline

Can crack every single bone in his body (as in how you crack your knuckles) and it makes a sickeningly loud crunching sound every single time he does it.

Freakishly flexible

Smokes Opium on occasion to deal with particularly bad pains

Speaking of pains, he's covered in burn scars.

Happens less often since it's been a few years, but sometimes right after he's woken up, he'll forget he's missing a leg and briefly gets very confused

Ice is his number one enemy

^ has slipped over in public more times than he'll ever willingly admit

Still keeps a pair of shoes instead of just the right one.

Always smells of something chemically or burnt from working in the forge all the time.

All of his fingertips are slightly charred

Often finds twigs in his hair

Sleep talks

Sleep walks but that's rarer and usually wakes up within the first minute or so

He has had to convince several people that he isn't a demon/god/deity/prophet/cult leader/half dragon/lycanwing

^ Has almost been burnt at the stake for demon allegations.

Speaks fluent French

^ So does Stoick. If they're having a dispute in public, it is in French.

^ Yells in French when overly annoyed/frustrated

Designated person to get rid of bugs

Goes on alone midnight walks, even without Toothless

Lightning makes him jumpy

Stoick had to design his signature for him because Hiccup just could not for the life of himself stick to the same one and it would become an issue on legal documents.

Allergic to dragon root (doesn't help with the half dragon allegations)

Guiltiest Guilt Complex to have ever guilted

Genuinely, and when I say genuinely I mean actually really, went slightly fucking insane with the whole Viggo stuff.

^ Got visual, auditory, and touch hallucinations from the severe sleep deprivation

^ Developed paranoia that fluctuated in severity

^ Got extremely irritable

^ Had at least one semi-public nervous breakdown (On the edge in the clubhouse)

Headcanon that although Hiccup loves all dragons, he really really likes smaller dragons, like Torch, Toothless (a relatively small dragon compared to others), Terrible terrors, ect, because he loves seeing that although they’re small, they’re not weak, they can hold their own, even against dragons twice their size sometimes…

Because he’s small, he’s a hiccup, half the size of lots of other boys and men in his village, but when thinking about those dragons, he doesn’t feel as weighed down by that. He remembers that he’s strong too, like they are.

You know that whole "Viking women did the finances because math was considered witchcraft" thing? Headcanon that Hiccup was always considered some form of practitioner of witchcraft because working inventions require at least some kind of math and bonding with dragons really didn't help.

And then it was discovered that he and his mother both developed dragon-related skills years apart and completely separate from one another and that really didn't help.

Do we think that every time Hiccup wakes up, even from a normal nap, he checks his legs? Double checking to make sure his good foot is still there. That he didn't lose another limb while he was unconscious.

Do we think he has nightmares or night terrors? Does he sometimes wake up screaming, the fire and teeth of the Red Death flashing behind his eyelids? Does his stump ache and pulse with phantom pain during these moments?

How many nights has he stayed up into the early hours? Overworking his brain with whatever he can, afraid to fall asleep. Afraid to close his eyes for even a second, because the memory of what everyone else sees as his greatest moment haunts his very being. Gives him nothing but troubled thoughts and frightening dreams. Makes his heart race and lungs ache, air suddenly too difficult to breathe each time he takes a moment to actually think about and remember it.

Does he dream about the what if's? What if he'd failed, what if Toothless or himself died, what if he'd been too late or the others hadn't agreed to go with him? The list seems never ending some nights. Plenty of anxious thoughts to keep him awake. Plenty of hours left for all these emotions to build as Toothless curls around him, cooing and nudging. Trying to bring his human out of his self-induced stupor.

I like to think Hiccup has whole 'conversations' with Toothless that are essentially incomprehensible to anyone but them (they consist of little human language–mostly draconic noises and body language as well as signals/cues specific to Hiccup and Toothless) the other riders are used to it at this point, but a lot of people are very much not and find it incredibly confusing.

Its started a lot of rumors of Hiccup being some 'dragon whisperer' that can actually speak to and command them and the other riders tease him about it relentlessly because he despises the rumors and always tries to correct them. Like every time they're brought up he'll say something along the lines of "No. If u actually pay attention to and connect with them, adapting to their way of communication isn't hard. I don't actually speak with them ur just not observant enough" and is constantly ignored
