The leaves crackled from their brittles state. The young wolf huffed out through their large nostrils.

Learning your surrounding, you sniff in.

Hearing a howl in the distance, your furry ears twitched as it sounded close.

Hearing ruffling, you prepare to lunge for attack, smoothing your vertebrae to steady.

The dark eyes stared back at you. Frozen but still cautious. They weren’t a threat. Other wolves jojn her, but, the reunion was cut short when another howl rang out.

The slimmer wolf, who entrapped you, soon turned and went off. You stared at the very place they were. You knew it was a girl, but, you wondered why they left so fast.

You felt a spark, almost like a rebirth moment. You had so many questions but you turn around, going in another direction.

Leah pushed on with her paws, she could smell the cold one now. She seen flashes of hair, flowing back in the wind. She growled with such ferocity, dying to sink her teeth into the cold one.

Leah let her mind wander as the water soaked her body.

She kept shaking her head, thinking, “This weird. I’m sure it’s nothing.”

Her mind kept going back to the wolf she saw, they were close to La Push territory.

She knew you weren’t a new wolf. She recognized the familiarity of your form, however, she didn’t recognize the longing feeling to see it again. She wasn’t going to let it consume her, choosing to stuff it in the deep back of her mind.

You went by the same place, over and over. You didn’t want overpower the territory, you just wanted to see if you would have another run in with the wolf you saw.

You had plans to go a little further, this day. Just to see what happens. You smelt a sickly smell. As you take a sniff, you hear the whoosh of something zooming past you.

You snarl at the figure that stood before you, snapping your teeth at it. Taking an arm off, they hiss. Another one emerged from the side of you, trapping their arms around your neck.

You shook your body, slamming the vampire that was on you. But, the one-armed vampire came running. Another wolf takes their head clean off, leaving the vampire’s knees to kneel the headless body on the ground before falling all of the way.

You had the chance to behead the cold one, watching the woman set fire to the bodies. She heaved as the fire’s shadow hit her face. Trickles of wolves began to appear. Leah let them throw the rest of the parts in the fire.

“Are you okay?” she asks you. You so badly wanted to bathe in the liquid of her voice. You nod once you phase out. She made it easier, you noticed.

“What were you doing around here?” she asks.

“Was looking for you.” you say. She was beautiful than you could ever imagined.

She chuckles humorlessly a bit as she then says, “Why?”

“I see you when I close my eyes.” you admit, stepping forward.

Leah was lost for words. She didn’t know what to say, she just looked at you.

“Im Y/N. I felt a spark between us, I feel a connection between us.” you say, a big sheepishly, but you still felt bold.

“Impossible.” she whispers.

“Leah! We gotta head back.” a tan boy says.

Leah turns her head from seeing what he wanted. She takes a good look at you.

“You think I will see you again?” you ask her.

my thoughts on the "fanon-isation" of sam (and his newest ba)

(taken from a long winded text conversation i had - slight NSFW talk below the cut) [WORD COUNT: 1047 WORDS, IM SORRY]

psa: while i am complaining about it, it's just my own thoughts, and none of which is an actual criticism of erik, feel free to add your opinions, as per the usual

Maybe its coz time is passing, and the relationship is developing but i feel like i’m enjoying the dynamic between sam and darlin’ a lot less than i did at the beginning. It feels a lot less “human-realistic” and more “tailored for fan preference” (you sam fans gotta hear me out on that bit okay).

Clearly erik isn’t “pandering” towards the fandom or anything, however there HAS been a change in sam’s writing that i don’t know if anyone else can see, or whether it’s just me.

 Fight me, but i feel like whatever’s happening to guy, the reverse is happening to sam. In the sense of where guy is gaining lore and becoming more plot relative, sam seems to be losing that position, which doesn’t cover all of my opinion, but it’s the simplest way i can think of putting it. 

He feels more “disconnected” as a character and I wish i could write this more specifically but there’s almost no “good” way of putting it, i’m just trying to put my vibes about this into readable thoughts in a way that’s somewhat well communicated.

It feels like he’s being diminished, where there’s less of the gruff dad-type personality, protective semi-asshole, gently-caring-in-a-non-tsundere-way, and a lot more “here’s your standard cookie-cutter southern bf who just so happens to be a vampire, however that’s essentially irrelevant because it’s never referenced in a way that’s plot-needed”. 

It’s quite flat and 2D now in a way that i can’t explain, so therefore don’t yell at me for saying it. While he’s still hot ofc, I don’t enjoy his character nearly as much as i did pre-quinn era, which is a shame because it’s difficult to let go of the fact that he’s one of my favourites, but the energy’s shifted and it’s “off” now. 

Maybe it’s because I’ve changed as a person in the last four years, which i know i have, but it doesn’t seem to be just character development, in the nicest way possible, it feels like he’s being written “out of character”.

Character development in any way is good, I’m a writer myself, I would know that, but those words aren’t what i would personally use to describe it. Forgive me, but i just felt like i needed to get everything out so i could see if anyone else agreed. 

You could say “it’s not that deep” but I’m autistic; this is my special interest, so as much as you can say otherwise, it is in fact “that deep” for me. 

Don’t get me wrong, i still thoroughly love sam as a whole, complete character, and the more recent videos that i don’t like as much could never take that away from me, so again, don’t come at me saying i’m “hating on him”, because i’m not.

This is as constructive of a “rant” that i can make it, and yes, my anonymous asks are turned off. I’m not gonna go on about how “i’m not criticising erik, BUT-” because if you know me at all, you’ll know i would never send hate towards him. 

With the “fanon-isation”, that’s just a word i threw out there to header this whole thing. I meant it mostly in reference to how a large part of the fandom seems to idealise or romanticise darlin’s character, and somewhat how that seems to be translating to the canon of their relationship with sam, and thus effecting him as well. But that wasn’t the right wording - the sam fangroup is big, and i’m already throwing myself to enough proverbial wolves as it is.

The thing that sparked all of this - and if you don’t have the patreon then you probably won’t know - is that Sam biting darlin’ for the first time happened in his most recent ba, which wasn’t something that i really liked. It felt weird to me that, even though it was fully communicated and both parties were okay, it would happen FOR THE FIRST TIME in a sexual setting. While it made sense for darlin’s character, it made less sense for sam’s.

 It also means that (at least as i’m writing this) the non-patrons won’t experience the very plot-important aspect that is sam biting darlin’ for the first time, considering how built-up it’s been throughout their storylines, it didn’t feel right.

It almost felt like the only reason the reverse-comfort audio even previewed for a ba was because THAT was the video that fell on release day. The circumstances just didn’t feel right for it, not given sam’s past and everything that happened in the quinn arc. 

i figured it would at least happen with a sit down conversation, in an sfw audio, even if it was ON patreon, but free. Of course - knowing darlin’ - it was going to be sexual at some point, but i didn’t think it would happen for the first time.

 I’m not going into any more specifics on the audio itself, but those are my thoughts on that bit. Sam bites darlin’, and i didn’t like it. My gripe is neither that it happened, nor that it’s not available to the public, but that nothing about the setting or the build up felt right, and it felt like it happened “just because”, which was a big let down for me, personally.

It wasn’t even the first time I’ve gotten the gist that something was “up”, THAT happened in sam’s hbs 2023 audio (NOT the ba, just the youtube access one) where it definitely felt more like “this is what the audience wants” because yes, who wouldn’t want to see a hot southerner get down and dirty in a club? But it didn’t feel right, and I couldn’t put my finger on it at the time, but more so now it seemed like fandom influence of a sorts.

Almost like I was reading a fanfic or something that was posted on here (no hate of course, I would say my "platform" on here is mainly constructed of fan based content, just that it seemed more “headcanon-y” and less Just Canon) rather than something that erik himself wrote.

TL;DR: sam feels more and more “out of character” to me as a long-term viewer, and it all came to a head in the most recent bonus audio

Why I like them/why I don’t: HE'S...MY... What I like about their appearance: like. it's a very cool design. and it also sucks ass. his hair is so fucking stupid. his heeled boots have turned so many people's brains into complete mush. slash neg. he is literally italian flag colored. i love his freaky robot ass. i think my favorite feature of his is the aforementioned awful haircut and also his edgy red eyes. <3 computer bring up the image again

Do I prefer their dub names or original names?: im more 'can go either way' with lesterlucciano and jakobjose but Primo is Primo Forever to me. placido is Fine but i do think for once the dub gave the character an even more fitting name. though god knows at this point i barely call him by his name and instead a bunch of goofy nicknames like he's my pet. peemo. peem. pipi.

PLEASE share your midnights Matty softlaunch theory, it’s such an odd and (to me at least lol) fascinating album

ok so. im going to go into insane detail track by track, but i think midnights makes sense (almost) if we read it as a journey through deciding to leave joe and we read mastermind as being a matty song — so the album is mostly her wondering if this thing she feels with matty is real or in her head, and then wondering, if it is real, if it’s worth it to make the jump. and i think she was ready to do it, and midnights would’ve been basically the matty “announcement,” but then she and joe made up and the 3am tracks are kind of damage control to confuse the narrative and make it less obvious. but we have to do a bit of digging. so let’s dive in.

(obvi we don’t know what happened for real. but it’s just fun to speculate!!!)

we open with lavender haze. and here we see taylor desperate to stay in the happy, peaceful relationship she’s in — she doesn’t WANT to get married, she doesn’t WANT to be talked about, she doesn’t WANT anything more. she just wants this. it’s enough for her. …or is it?

because immediately, we move to maroon. we go from a pastel purple color to various shades of red, changing the image and flipping back through memories. and these memories call back to a lot of 1989 era imagery — we get the wine stain from clean, the rosy cheeks from wildest dreams, new york… that’s a real fucking legacy to leave. something triggered this little trip down memory lane. maybe they hung out, or someone said something, who knows. but i think this is where the cracks in the lavender haze begin.

and so after all that she takes us to anti-hero. it’s me, hi, i’m the problem. i think this is probably the precursor to guilty as sin? — it’s saying, oh no. i’m the problem, fantasizing about my ex again (i dream of cracking locks, throwing my life to the wolves/i wake up screaming from dreaming) and acknowledges that joe is going to leave her when he finds out (one day i‘ll watch as you’re leaving)

but she can’t stop. the fantasy continues to grow in snow on the beach. this song is filled a bunch of space/sky imagery — “a few moons ago,” “stars by the pocketful,” “your eyes are flying saucers from another planet.” let’s keep track of that imagery. (we’ll return to the all space stuff in a big way in down bad, but don’t worry, it’ll reappear on midnights.)

and then there’s the realization of you’re on your own kid. that’s right — you’re on your own, and you always have been. i think this is her deciding to separate her sense of identity from joe. and the first verse brings up a lot of images we see come back on ttpd: “summer went away, still the yearning stays” -> “another summer/rolling thunder/he don’t understand me” and “it’s okay we’re the best of friends” -> “but tell me who else is gonna know you?” and “you’re smoking with your boys” -> “you needed drugs more.” it’s tempting to interpret the first verse as a retrospective on her teenage years, but it could just as easily be about falling for matty while they were “just friends” and she was still with joe. but i think in yoyok she’s still trying to convince herself it’s not real: “just to learn that you never cared.” matty doesn’t want her, she thinks. but she has her songs. maybe that’s all she ever needed?

this triggers an even larger dive into the past: midnight rain. now she’s wondering if the reason she’s so resistant to marry joe is just a repeat of old patterns, so she dives into the past looking for answers. i maintain that midnight rain is about the muse of debut and i think it’s her looking over her own past and trying to make sense of what’s happening now. am i the problem? was i always the problem? am i incapable of marriage or is it just with this guy?

so now she has to know. she has to get answers. is this fantasy about matty her just replaying old patterns of leaving when things get serious? or is this thing she feels with matty something real? basically, can i ask you a question…? we don’t even need to dive any deeper into the 1989 era of it all. this song is pretty obvious. note that we return to the space imagery though: “does it feel like everything is just like second best after that meteor strike?”

i don’t feel like talking about vigilante shit because it’s a bad song but suffice to say i think it’s just her being admitting she’s okay sometimes being the villain. other than that it’s not really relevant to the matty narrative.

so then we get bejeweled. which was strange when it came out and hasn’t gotten less strange, but it’s kind of another step in deciding to leave joe behind. she can’t marry him, because she’s not sure matty isn’t actually the one for her. “when i meet the band, they ask do you have a man, i can still say i don’t.” is the band… perhaps… the 1975? and this is when she leaves. “what’s a girl gonna do? a diamond’s gotta shine.” she sets herself free. you can try to change her mind, but you can’t. she polished up real nice.

and then we get labyrinth. which to me only makes sense as a post-joe song. “it only hurts this much right now.” “i’ll be getting over you my whole life.” “break up break free break through break down.” but what saves her? the person who comes in right at the last second: matty. he turns the plane around. remember all the space imagery? my flight was awful thanks for asking? well, here he is. uh oh, i’m falling in love again.

and actually… she loves it. it feels like karma. (or maybe destiny.) for all her work, all her struggle, all her pain, she gets the guy in the end: the years of pining and coded songs all add up to this.

but she can’t hate joe. she could never hate him. she might have wanted to leave, but it wasn’t because he treated her badly. he never wanted anything from her. just sweet nothing. i don’t think sweet nothing is a breakup song; it was probably even written as a love song. but its placement on the tracklist makes it feel like a goodbye. “they said the end is coming,” she says. but she needed someone who saw her that way. it’s an i will always love you song. it’s a thank you.

and so we close: mastermind. the planets and all the stars aligned from snow on the beach and question. we’re up in space now. she’s been planting these seeds since back in 2014… and now she has him. matty. she did it. all the wisest women had to do it this way. doesn’t that sound like fucking politics and gender roles? the liquor in the cocktails that she’s always drunk on when she’s around him? but he knew the entire time. she’s a mastermind.

okay so that’s the standard edition. the bonus track being hits different makes sense if it’s the joe breakup — “it hits different this time.” she’s left people before, but never like this. she’s SAD! she’s waiting for his key in the door but it never comes. she might have been the one that left, but it still hurt like never before.

but the 3am tracks are the last bit of the puzzle. and here’s where i think we can take taylor’s word for them as sort of “vault tracks” because they don’t fit in the narrative of midnights, but they tell a story in themselves. and that story is of her and joe getting back together after all this.

the first one she tacks on is the great war, a song about making up after a fight. so she puts that one to first, to reassure that they actually made it through. then i think we get the “cutting room floor” tracks — that is, they’re out of order but all part of the larger story. we get another heartwrenching goodbye in bigger than the whole sky, a return to the delusional lavender haze and staring at the ceiling in paris, a song about cheating in high infidelity. all thematically relevant, but not perfectly fitting into the narrative of the original record.

then we get glitch, which imo is also a matty song. “depending on what kind of situationship im in” read: if joe and i are off or on. “2190 days of our love blackout” read: six years since the 1989 era where they dated originally. “nights are so starry” brings us back to the space imagery, the glitch video on spotify glitching to the 1989 tv of wildest dreams… “it must be counterfeit” will come back too, in loml when she says “something counterfeit is dead.” but here… it’s only getting started.

would’ve could’ve should’ve again sees her examining her patterns with toxic men, and begins a lot of the religious theming we’ll see return on ttpd. and then we close with dear reader, a song about self-loathing, and begging the listener not to take her advice because she’s not really a good person. she admits it: she cheats, she lies, joe has left her alone in the house (not a home, cause nobody’s there.) “you should find another guiding light,” she tells us. but she shines so bright…

anyway yeah. that’s my extended theory. i think it was supposed to be the goodbye to joe and mastermind was introducing matty, but then when they patched it up, the narrative changed and 3am tracks got added on and changed the direction. (it makes sense if those tracks were added on late, since they weren’t available physically for a long time after the record was released. hits different, the song about breaking up with a long term partner… was.) we could deep dive into every song and analyze the lyrical parallels with 1989, folkmore, and ttpd too (don’t get me started on the 1 and cardigan) but we’ll save that for another time.

and of course, we all know what happened next. but we wouldn’t be here without the chaos that was midnights. without it, we might never have gotten an answer to that one, burning question…?

Gems whispered words hit Pearl right where she always hurt, and the haze shattered, leaving Pearl thinking clearly for the first time since Gem's sword had cleaved her skull in two.

Around her blood was stained all over the grass, and when she looked down she saw it dried on her hands as well. Her mounders were covered in injuries, cuts hanging open, skin scorched by the blasts. And gem- she was hurt too.

The secret keeper hummed in her ear, the tone cold and cruel. She was meant to get on with it, stab and betray, live up to the scarlet witch's name.

But instead of bloodlust filling her as she looked at Gem who seemed weak and hurt it was sympathy. Reds werent meant to feel that.

"So maybe you should be over here!" Pearl called back, pretending her world just hadnt been shaken to its core, but the normalcy in her voice still surprised her.

"Or maybe you should be over here!" Pearl heard Gems words without really hearing them. No. Her gaze back between her team and Gem, a stone sinking in her stomach as she realised that she wasnt getting out of this without betraying someone.

but that didnt hurt nearly as much as the fact that she was going to have to be the one to choose.

After long painful seconds her eyes finally locked with bdubs, worry sparkling there as he was no doubt wondering who she would choose. Bdubs. He'd been on her side since day one, and theyd been through too much to throw this away now. So...

fun karkasy has had it he's out of course they've got soldiers watching them the soldier would very much like if Karkasy stayed there because it's not safe in the city, potentially karkasy is uncomfortable standing up to authority so he complies five minutes later as he feels his braincells continuing to die, an elderly lady faints and causes a commotion and he slips away lol time for karkasy to just randomly start wandering around yeah it's the part i thought it was the place looks pretty wartorn karkasy gets captivated by the graffiti

time to pull out his chapbook and write and we get a tangent about the kind of guy he is and honestly now i'm wondering about terran paper production given the whole you know situation with the climate i wonder if they primarily use rag paper

oh geez he makes his way back to the bar and it's completely empty his money is still on the counter, so seeing that he feels entitled to take another bottle

in a sense, magdalena's come to be a persona by several factors, and its more of her long game, lone wolf type. its more of maria taking influence from not only johnny by also nancy, in routes where she ( & lee ) are accepted by her into the family. its getting a lil more personal with her targets, earning their trust over a longer timeframe. befriending them even. its more of her wolf coming out - where one one side, magdalena comes across as a typical neighbor, someone who bakes you things and brings it over unprompted ( sometimes we get silly and slow-poison them! c: ) esp during rough times - similar to how nancy works. its the slowburn of growing closer to them, earning trust, being let into their lives, just to one day down the line rip that security out from under them, turn their homes into a bloodbath really. magdalena's more of that, mercy doesnt exist in this body, morality doesnt exist, theres an anger and a hatred and a coldness to the world thats been dormant in these bones like the old gods who sleep for millennia hidden among us like mountain ranges. while physically maria isn't nearly on the same levels as johnny or leland, i'd argue magdalena's by far her more brutal and unhinged persona in that she'll not only make an absolute mess out of her target, but will also prolong things at times - make it last hours, if she can manage, if they stay alive long enough. magdalena is also moreso in swing post-acceptance by nancy, meaning the likelihood that she's been taught how to use the same types of ability, the possession, the hallucinations, is very high. magdalena's symbolized by wolf peering out from under sheepskin. nicknames : lena.

maria's safest aliases to utilize are dolores & aurelia -- they are almost solely used as lure & bait, and rarely are her big scary guard dogs straying too far to intervene whenever necessary. dolores / aurelia's primary purpose is to garner her target(s) trust and entice them to go someplace secluded with her to get ambushed by her boys. where she is, rarely are at least one of them not nearby. rosa, however, runs the risks of being alone and vulnerable in some potentially compromising situations. rosa is commonly used when maria's working mostly on her own as each of them are also likely enticing someone to a motel room etc -- its usually rosa who puts an end to if not severely incapacitates the target before the scary guard dogs get in there. magdalena i'd consider right after because this is maria's long-game, slowburn alias. just instead, really, of working like a "lure" -- its more of a carefully laid out trap she sets out. she works to get closer to every target, until they let their guards down enough. its maria's lone wolf work. not often cropping up to be fair. magdalena's also used when something gets a little too personal. and if all the aliases begin at maria, then they all end at magdalena. magdalena's utilized as self-preservation if need be. if somethings going wrong with a target? switch is flipped and things get messy. paloma, then, is also a bit of a slowburn alias -- though arguably, her riskiest because unlike dolores & aurelia & rosa & reina where she does still likely have the boys nearby, paloma gets utilized as a bit of a challenge. those she targets are, usually, absolutely pieces of shit. she knows shes often biting off more than she can chew -- especially working alone. she's more likely to end those encounters with wounds than arguably any other alias at work. paloma is symbolized by doves.

something to note re: maria's aliases that i hadnt thought of when making that the previous points with the additional personas being added but, said before how as the aliases start with maria, then they end at magdalena -- and what i mean by that is, ofc maria is always the starting point to where she takes any of the aliases during hunts. and every single one of them, in turn, can switch and end in magdalena. magdalena comes out primarily later on, namely post-nancy acceptance into the family or when johnny kills her in order to keep maria ( & lee in nosy ) safe. but its the careful alias. the calculated one. the shut down, shut off everything -- brutal one. magdalena is also where, especially, anything that nancy eventually teaches her re: her abilities comes into play. and with paloma -- one of the two new aliases -- paloma i feel comes into play when nancy ran her little tests on her ( & lee ). we were chatting abt it some time ago, and i know nancy pulls maria & lee into few challenging encounters in order to see if they're worth keeping around -- and part of paloma's thing is, biting off more than you can chew. theres something in maria, i feel, that shortcircuits during those challenges that hasnt happened yet in cc / nosy timelines, and it draws out something different in her. she returns after nancys finished in fairly rough shape i feel. moreso than she has with any other target, any other hunt -- because normally, she isn't alone like that. not completely. theres a type of raging self-preservation thats drawn out from cornered prey animal.

distance really makes the heart grow fonder but ill be honest i think i prefer ent season 3s really weird continuity and tos references to season 4s world building that reads like unreadably long lore booklets you can buy as extra material for a 40 year old tabletop game universe where everythings trying to connect together and like nothing actually matters and theyre giving you the lore that captain kirks chicken sandwiches are actually like the product of a mad scientist who created living machines that spit out chicken pieces that scream as part of a section 31 plot to like destabilize the romulan chicken farm industry and theyre now standard issue parts of every starship but anyways the interesting season 3 episodes were like more vibes based exile and north star tho tbh again the politics in north star were like insane i respect the fandom impulse to be like here is a vibe and an energy we would like to recapture and also its the stuff so weird and silly seeming nobody has bothered touching it in like 30+ years lets do the godlike powers gothic horror planet or the cowboy planet again is more laudable to me than lets explain in extensive detail how cowboys are actually a parasitic life form that has caused convergent evolution across the universe as they spread their eggs wait actually that would rule and is not what im going for um whatever the fact they wrote bound is like humiliating on every possible level and if i wrote an episode of tv like that id just throw myself to the wolves to make up for it
