Ah, another day, another delivery for the wonderful folks at KFAM. And, although, Rain did have to admit that working when there is an active serial killer out on the streets isn't... ideal but man, at least he's not the only one? Actually, that arguably makes it worse... oh well, whatever. Meeting up with the folks at the station is totally worth it. Plus, it's not like he can't defend himself.

Hm, actually, that brings up another problem. Are they even gonna let him in, all things considered? But he's a friend of theirs so surely... oh no. Surely they won't think he's the Whistling Man, right? Surely there has got to be something that will give out that he's not the killer stalking the town, right?

Wait. What is he even thinking? He's like, towering over every single damn person in Gallows Creek, there's no way in hell they will actually mistake him for that... bastard. Well, okay, maybe Barbara or Brad or whatever the hell his name is will, but surely not Clive or Jeanie?

Finally approaching the front door of the KFAM building, Rain huffs, propping up the box he was holding with his knee. He rings the door and patiently waits for someone to come here and take their mail. And of course, after maybe 2 minutes or so, he heard what sounded like footsteps. Although those footsteps seemed to be... coming from outside-?

GAH, WHAT THE HELL! Rain just got tackled onto the ground, dropping the box at the front door in the process! Who dared?!

Their thoughts immediately froze when they felt a knife at their throat and a mask in front of their face. It's him. The Whistling Man. This is bad. No, not bad, this is horrible! No one will hear them if they scream, hell, they can't scream even if they wanted to! Maybe they have a chance to escape and get into KFAM for shelter? No no, this bastard will surely get in! But then how the hell-

Before their thoughts could spiral any further, both them and the Whistler heard footsteps, this time coming from inside. And while he was distracted, even if just for a split second, it was enough time for Rain to kick at the glass doors as hard as they could to grab the attention of whoever was coming down. Wait, coming down? Oh damn it, right! They forgot today was Forrest's show, and that it was already nighttime, which means that it's probably not Clive or Jeanie... Fucking hell.

As the footsteps approached closer, Rain suddenly got dragged away into a dark alleyway behind the building. But of course, if the Whistling Man thinks that they're gonna give up without a fight, then he is a fucking idiot.

They kick their feet in the air to hinder the killer's movement, and when he briefly stops to put them in their place, Rain grabs his head and flings him around, causing the man to fall down on the ground with a thud. They scramble up and get on their feet again. This bitch is for sure not leaving without a few scars.

Anyway, while one fight against a masked killer was going down at the very heart of Gallows Creek, another was happening at its north west part. And when Rain caught a small part of that battle through the radio, they froze dead in their tracks. Which, probably wasn't the best idea, since if they didn't roll out of the way they would be bleeding out on the ground right now. Rain jumped up, kicking the Whistler in the stomach and then knocking him off his feet. They looked up at the sky for a moment, before looking down at their attacker and making a gesture that vaguely means "we're not done yet" and making a run for it.

After what felt like hours of speeding through the dark streets, excruciating pain and skyrocketing anxiety, Rain finally made it to the Rink. They had zero time to think about what the hell they were gonna do now as they climbed up and through the window.

"Don't move!" a familiar voice told them. Once they put their hands up and Ricky actually recognized who was standing in front of him, he lowered his weapon in surprise. "[REDACTED]? My man what the hell, you almost scared me to death!" Rain didn't even hear what he just said as they tackled the man in a hug, squeezing him in their long arms. "Easy there, easy bud, I'm fine, see?" In turn, he also wrapped his arms around them, prompting Rain to flinch in pain. "What... happened to you?" Ricky was half confused half concerned. It's not everyday your long time friend comes barging into your place covered in bruises and scratches, with messed up hair and completely out of breath.

...Maybe he could see why the townsfolk considered Rain to be some sort of creature.

"Wait, it wasn't the Whistling Man, was it?" God he hopes he's wrong. If not, he swears on his life- oh, okay we're fine, Rain shook their head! Although, knowing their tendencies, they could be lying. "Come on man, lets get you patched up, alright?" It seems like Maxy was also very concerned to see Rain like this, as he followed both of his friends.

And while Marie went for her next and second to last target, Henry couldn't help but wonder - what the hell was that? That was... perhaps one of the first victims who managed to fight him off, physically nonetheless, without getting help from somebody else. He was pissed off, but he would also lie if he said that he wasn't intrigued.

Let's just hope that this isn't the last time the killer that stalks the town and the cryptid that haunts its grounds will meet.

OML also have you read /heard of Desire for Peace? It’s an ongoing webcomic about Ares’ recovery from his time in the jar by @/ephemeral-roses. It’s only 3 episodes long so far but the WRITING and the ART and the EMOTIONS is gorgeous. plus I LOVE their Aphrodite so much !!

Okay so when you sent this ask I hadn't known anything about @ephemeral-roses Desire for Peace but upon reading it, I immediately bolted to read the available three chapters and stalk their tumblr a bit. Now that I've sat with what I read for a few hours, I can confidently say that I'm quite a fan!!

I've seen a modest amount of takes on the 'Ares recovers from his jarification' premise most notably in fics, but it's my first time seeing a spin on it that seems to be primarily concerned with Ares' mental health in the aftermath. Also the opening premise of Ares being born twice, first from his mother and then from the jars was like, very impacting to me, I'm extremely interested to see how that is expounded upon. It's also really cool to have Ares as an amputee? There are many many elements that are tying Ares to his brothers just in these first couple chapters - born twice like Dionysus with one birth involving them having to be repaired after being torn apart by monsters (Ares is mental but Dionysus/Zagreus was physical), disabled like Hephaestus and being accompanied by Hermes who, instead of acting like a psychopomp and delivering Ares to death, instead acted like a nursemaid and delivered Ares back to life.

Anyway, the point is, thank you very much for pointing me in the direction of this series!! I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it eagerly!!

Hey, Barbie historian here… Allan got discontinued because he knocked Midge up. They got married in the 80’s and had a family together in the early 2000’s. Allan was never actually done away with until the Happy Family controversy. He just wasn’t popular because he wasn’t Ken, and even Ken’s popularity has been piss poor for decades. They just used the original Allan for the movie without mentioning his relationship with Midge

But in all seriousness, that's fascinating! I'll admit I was more of a Littlest Pet Shop girlie when I was a kid, so all I knew was Barbie and Ken.

I think it's funny that they paired Allan and Midge together and got them pregnant. I can totally see why that would be controversial, cause like. They're toys. The implication that they had sex is... not fun.

The only thing I knew about Allan going into the movie was that he was initially marketed as Ken's 'buddy', and that also had some unintended implications. I fully believe that Greta Gerwig exploited his perceived queerness in the movie. Maybe if she explored Midge's character a little more, they would've touched on this.
