I stood looking at the sky, watching those two planes that carried hope after long months of aid being cut off. I saw in them a chance for life, a chance to return to my dreams that were buried under the rubble of war and siege.

But when the aid started to fall, hope faded. The aid did not reach my hands, the hopes of the children who were screaming with joy at its arrival were shattered, all of that was shattered when it fell in areas controlled by the army or in the sea. At that moment, I realized that my dreams were far away.

I was an ambitious young man, dreaming of a better future for me and my family, but all those dreams were shattered. Now, instead of striving for success, I found myself running after cans of canned food just to stay alive. Every day I faced the same struggle; surviving in a world that no longer gave me a chance to dream.

The dreams that once filled my head were shattered before my eyes, leaving me wondering if I would ever dream again, or if my life would remain just a constant struggle for survival.

Today, I was in dire need of help. I no longer ask for more than a chance to survive, and perhaps one day I will be able to regain my dreams and achieve them. I appeal to everyone who can help to donate on my behalf, as every contribution, no matter how small, may be the reason for saving a life. I am not asking for much, just hope to help me continue.

The Gaza Monologues: Audio Production in Solidarity with Palestine!

The Gaza Monologues is a collection of testimonies from Gazan youth in 2010, after the first war on Gaza, collected and adapted for stage by ASHTAR Theatre in Ramallah (@ASHTARTheatre), and performed here by 26 people from several countries for International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People on November 29, 2023. In lieu of copyright purchases, ASHTAR Theatre requests donations to their programs in the West Bank.

This is an audio-only production of The Gaza Monologues, but is posted as a video to include subtitles. Most monologues are in English, but there are two in Arabic, two in Spanish, and one in French. English subtitles are available for all monologues. Currently, subtitles in Arabic, Spanish, and French are only up for the monologues that are spoken in each respective language, though we’ll try to get subtitles up for others in the near future. The script of The Gaza Monologues is available in those languages and more.

On a night with no security or sleep, we were sitting in our tent and the people in the camp were sitting in their tents, afraid of the sound of the planes that never stop. Suddenly, a missile fell on one tent in the middle of the camp. The tent exploded and caught fire in an instant, and black smoke began to rise, announcing the beginning of a new disaster.

The fire did not stop at the tent that was bombed, no, the fires began to spread from tent to tent, and everything turned to ashes. The people who were in the other tents ran out, trying to escape by any means, but the fire was faster than them.

The mother who was trying to protect her children, found herself trapped in the middle of the fire. The father ran trying to open a way, but everything was on fire. And the little boy raised his hand, his voice shaking as he said: "Help us!" His voice full of fear and pain, but there was nothing but fire around everyone.

The fire was spreading and the destruction was spreading everywhere, and with it the screams of the people increased: "Help us escape death! Help us and donate to us, please!" A scream from the midst of the destruction to all those who can still save the lives living the nightmares of war.
