Thinking about so many people this holiday season. People in ED recovery. People who haven’t started their ED recovery yet. People with sensory issues around food. People with unwanted dietary restrictions and intolerances and allergies. “Picky eaters.” You are valid, you are loved, you are capable, you are strong. I hope you are able to find joy and delight this year in your meals. Wishing you all the best. ❤️

How many dishes can the guys make? As robots, I can see that they would have a lot of knowledge due to the internet, but do they have any criteria as to the theme of the restaurant or the amount of time it takes?
great question!
the restauarant is specifically a cha chaan teng, a Hong Kong style cafe so the majority of the menu revolves around that cuisine
however!! the DCA boys often introduce new menu items, as well as weekly and seasonal specials!
Sun is the most adventurous in cooking new dishes. he is very interested in learning new recipes, new cooking methods, ingredient substitutions, etc! he takes it all as a personal challenge to experiment with new recipes
Moon will often try new dishes based on current trends—like he would totally be making variations of the Dubai chocolate bar and tanghulu and cucumber salads right now haha! honestly if he could, he'd love to travel and try all different kinds of foods around the world
As the barista, Eclipse also experiments with new drinks. along with their standard cafe drinks (like tea, coffee, ovaltine, etc.) he also has a seasonal drink selection to match the themes of the season. so it's autumn now, he'd have pumpkin spice milk tea, sweet potato latte, and mooncake hot chocolate for mid-autumn festival—all decadent, warm and cozy drinks that feel like a warm hug!
they have an ever-changing “surprise me” special, which is a unique meal that combines the dishes they've been experimenting on. it's like a very casual omakase. it's not a very popular set, since it constantly changes, but it is at a reduced price. the customers’ feedback also helps them improve the dishes. see, the boys can eat (as an alternative way to charge) and they do have taste and scent receptors, but they struggle with textures and mouthfeel because they don't have a squishy human mouth. so getting customer feedback on their experiments really helps them out. i imagine the "surprise me" special would be popular among students who are on a tight budget and are willing to try something new each time, cuz even though it's a mystery, they know it's great value for the price since the boys put all their effort into all their cooking

Man, sometimes living alone with ADHD really do be like:
Me: Huh, I wonder why I'm so shaky and tired and seeing spots everywhere
Also me: *hasn't eaten food in two days, hasn't had water in just as long, has been hunched over current hyper fixation for hours without moving, hasn't seen sunlight in days*
Me: .... Just one of life's great mysteries I suppose

I wish there was more focus in the food world/food media on general everyday healthy eating that isn’t body-focused or diet culturey. Just good vibes nutritious food for everyday. I think Melissa Clark is really good for this, along with a lot of actual cookbooks, but the current pop culture/food media scene is so saturated either with 3 ingredient no flour no sugar 200 calorie lose 20lb nowww videos or workout/training body dysmorphia stuff OR try our ooey gooeyest cheesiest Mac YET triple chocolate fudgey fried brownie clickbait and I just want to figure out what to do with half a head of broccoli or three kilograms of malanga
looking back I do wonder if a lot of *why* food media is like that isn’t some broad question of diet but instead social media programming - both extreme dieting and extremely indulgent comfort food are a kind of vicarious experience for most of the people clicking and it’s rage bait anyway. But it still sucks (esp as it shows another reason social media gamification can destroy a genre)

We are being bombarded with toxic ingredients every day, and I am not trying to be extreme here. From the foods we eat, to the creams and sprays we put on our bodies, many of them have ingredients that are just not good for us.

penelope canonically retreating to her room and refusing food = she puts on some weight, the reason being both lack of physical activity as well as her body being on constant emergency mode (so what little she does eat ends up being stored away bc the body doesnt know when the 'starvation' will end). whats more her constant stress elevates cortisol levels which in and of itself leads to weight gain esp in the abdominal area.
tl;dr chubby penelope send fucking t w e e t
#that is it that is the post#cortisol is also known as the stress hormone#helps u wake up & regulates metabolism among other things#it helps you cope with stress but too much of it (much like anything else in life) is not good for you and your health#this has been on my mind for so long#no im not projecting#shush#thinking abt her naiad heritage too#like maybe she can get through long periods without or with very little food but her human body's nutritional needs prevail idk#and then midnight snacks maybe lol#away from the piercing gaze of the wretched suitors and judgemental looks of certain maidservants#chubby penelope for the soul#penelope of ithaca#my beloved muffin#with razor sharp teef#give the cinammon roll some tummy rolls!!#BONUS: when ody comes home they both heal together and side by side#coming to terms with just how merciless the years have been#ody gains healthy weight after years of abuse in ogygia (i hc he purposely denied himself proper food bc thats the only agency he had#as well as the making urself undesirable to the abuser)#and penelope goes for swims and perhaps bonds with telemachus in a new way like races and swimming competitions aw#as well as teaching him some naiad stuff he probably inherited#family healing yay!#:')#btw not saying they go back to their 20 year old physiques#what i am saying is they now take better care of themselves and each other#and one of the ways its reflected is in their frames#i think we need more middle aged odypen art#and age accurate content in general#esp post odyssey

A Journey Through Indian Superfoods
Tumblr media
In a world where wellness and health-consciousness have taken center stage, the term “superfood” has become a buzzword in dietary conversations. You’ve probably heard it mentioned in nutrition and healthy eating conversations. But what precisely are superfoods, and why are they so prized in the world of nutrition?
Superfoods are a type of food that is high in nutrients and hence extremely good for your health. These nutrient powerhouses are high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other components that can help to maintain and improve your overall health.
Here are some of the top 5 Indian superfoods:
1) Ghee
Ghee, a celebrity among Indian superfoods, is known for its rich flavor and a plethora of health advantages. It’s a type of clarified butter that has been revered in Indian cuisine and Ayurvedic traditions for generations. Ghee is high in important nutrients, aids digestion, and is revered in Ayurvedic medicine for its holistic healing characteristics. Its high smoke point makes it ideal for cooking, and its distinct nutty flavor enhances the flavors of foods. This versatile ingredient extends beyond the culinary sphere, playing an important role in cultural and religious practices throughout India.
2) Curd
Curd, a dairy product with numerous health advantages and a popular member of the superfood family, is a staple in Indian cuisine. Curd is high in probiotics, which support gut health and digestion. It’s high in key minerals like calcium, protein, and vitamins, making it an important part of a healthy diet. Curd has a symbolic meaning in Indian culture, and it is used in both savory and sweet dishes, from refreshing raita to creamy lassi. This nutritious superfood not only tantalizes the taste buds but also promotes general health.
3) Moringa
Moringa, often referred to as the “Miracle Tree” or “Drumstick Tree,” is a true gem among Indian superfoods.Moringa leaves are loaded with vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, vitamin A, calcium, and iron, making it a nutritious powerhouse. This superfood is praised for its ability to increase energy, improve general health, and even reduce malnutrition in some areas. Moringa leaves can be consumed in a variety of culinary forms, such as teas, smoothies, soups, and salads, and provide a natural and sustainable source of essential nutrients.
4) Aloe vera
Aloe vera, well-known for its soothing effects, is a magnificent Indian superfood valued for its nutritional and therapeutic properties. For generations, this succulent plant has been utilized in traditional Indian medicine, or Ayurveda, for its healing and revitalizing properties. The gel found in the fleshy leaves of aloe vera is high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, making it a natural powerhouse for skin and hair health. It is well-known for its capacity to heal wounds, cure sunburns, and moisturize the skin. Aloe vera juice, when taken, may improve digestion, strengthen the immune system, and provide a pleasant dose of water. Aloe vera is also well known to help maintain blood sugar in people with diabetes.
5) Amla
Amla, commonly known as Indian gooseberry, is a potent Indian superfood that is well-known for its extraordinary health benefits. This little, green fruit is high in vitamin C and antioxidants, making it an excellent immune booster as well as a contributor to glowing skin and strong hair. Amla is well-known for its ability to ease digestion, improve vision, and promote general well-being. To harness its nutritious benefits, it is used into a variety of culinary preparations such as chutneys, pickles, and juices. Amla is renowned in Indian culture not only for its taste but also for its holistic health-promoting capabilities, making it a prized addition to the superfood category.
To summarize, Indian superfoods are a treasure mine of nutrition and wellness that are strongly ingrained in the country’s culinary traditions and ancient knowledge systems such as Ayurveda. They include a wide range of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and special chemicals that improve immunity, digestion, and overall health. These superfoods, infused with cultural meaning, continue to play an important role in encouraging a healthier, more balanced lifestyle, bridging the gap between flavor and nourishment.

if your long term eating disorder treatment clinic doesn't include teaching people to prepare and cook food i feel like you're setting many patients up for failure. many people with EDs were raised by people with EDs, and public schools (in the US at least) have almost entirely discarded cooking education.
when i moved in with my bf, who spent time inpatient several years ago, there was hardly anything in his fridge besides, like, cauliflower "rice". & it wasn't just because his ED made it difficult to buy food: he didn't know what to buy! i'd ask what his parents made growing up and they didn't. his mom's ED is worse than his & his dad considered "plain ground beef fried in a pan" to be a "meal."
add that diet culture is pervasive in mainstream food education. even normal-seeming cookbooks will describe some recipes as "guilt free" here and there. influencers are obviously even worse. to avoid it you have to know where to look, and for someone in a vulnerable state of mind, it's far easier to not look at all.
this led my bf to cooking the same few things with the same overpriced ingredients day in and out. he also ordered out, or bought preprepped meals, but he couldn't always afford that, and went hungry the rest of the time. he knew, from treatment, that fats are necessary, that sugars are necessary, that carbs are necessary. but without any knowledge on HOW to incorporate these foods in his diet, he just didn't.
& it seems like such a natural thing to include in treatment. you want to desensitize people to being around food? you want to give them positive experiences with food, including social activities like eating as a group? well, why not cook as a group? have a day when we all make cookies or a big stew! or cook 1-on-1 with your therapist during a session sometimes! install a stove, sink and fridge into their office, follow a recipe together, TEACH! you can't just tell people to incorporate all the macronutrients into their diets without telling them HOW!
