If your voice was suppressed during your entire childhood, it’s time to set it free. Speaking your truth and saying how you feel is WAY more important than following conventional dating advice and playing it cool and being considerate of him, of others. Once you start speaking up, once you find your voice you’ll realise how empowering this is. Fuck those dating coaches and their advice, it will keep you in a trap of staying silent instead of telling him exactly how you feel. And when you’ve been silenced you will find freedom in honouring your voice, your truth, in expression. So burn the dating books, stop taking advice, and listen to your soul. Listen to what’s bubbling inside. It’s liberating, its empowering. It’s your fucking right to express.

In this episode, Michael Bernard Beckwith shows us that facing our fears is not just a skill but a gateway to personal growth and self-discovery. Fear, a healthy emotion programmed into our nervous system, is there to keep us safe and protect us from danger. However, when fear becomes hypervigilant, it hijacks our nervous system and distorts our perception of life. Unfounded fear can mute our logic, leading us to make life-changing decisions from an unreal perspective. We may leave relationships based on false projections, stay in ones we should leave because we fear being alone, avoid taking risks, and regret over-the-top reactions when guided by fear. To cope with this separation from reality, our brain seeks a distraction that is more intense than the fear, often leading to addictive behaviors. But by facing our fears, we can break free from this cycle and discover peace and a more fulfilling life.
Come on a captivating, self-healing exploration into the intricate world of love with “What's Love Got To Do With It." This thought-provoking journey takes a deep dive into how our individual attachment styles influence our relationships, weaving together the realms of science, psychology, and spirituality to offer a holistic understanding of the human experience.

What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a psychotherapy approach designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. Developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR is recognized as an effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It's based on the premise that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.
How EMDR Works
EMDR therapy involves an eight-phase treatment process, which includes:
History Taking and Treatment Planning: Understanding the client's history to identify specific traumatic memories for treatment.
Preparation: Establishing trust and explaining the EMDR process to the client. Techniques for handling emotional distress are often taught in this phase.
Assessment: Identifying the vivid visual image related to the memory, negative beliefs about oneself, related emotions, and body sensations.
Desensitization: Focusing on the traumatic memory while engaging in specific types of bilateral sensory input, such as side-to-side eye movements, auditory tones, or tactile taps. This process is thought to facilitate the brain's information processing.
Installation: Strengthening positive beliefs to replace the negative ones associated with the traumatic memory.
Body Scan: Identifying and addressing any residual physical tension or discomfort associated with the memory.
Closure: Returning the client to equilibrium, regardless of whether the memory has been fully processed in a session.
Reevaluation: Assessing the client's progress and determining if further processing is needed.

How to listen to your body
One of the strangest concepts in psychology is that trauma can become ‘stored’ in the body. It’s easy to grasp how a difficult event might be embedded in the mind, but how could trauma be remembered or fixed in our physical bodies? Can a kidney ‘remember’ sadness? Can a wrist or femur retain the memory of a harsh parent or a painful divorce?

If you grew up in an abusive home, you’ve probably learnt to play the second class citizen when it comes to love, and who could blame you? This was your only way to survive, you came second, the person you loved, your 'protecter' came first. Walking on egg shells, and trying your best to keep your abuser happy and not upset was a lifestyle for so many years. But as an adult, if you carry over this learnt behaviour, you’ll suffer. You’ll feel short changed in relationships, over giving and under receiving. The scales won’t be tipped in your favour… but how do you move out of this people pleasing tendency and put yourself first? - You need to reflect, get clear and understand the roots, what you are missing in your life that is allowing you to continue to put yourself second, maybe deep down you don’t feel worthy, you don’t feel love. It might take a while to realise this but once you get to the root you can start reprogramming your self concept (there is so much on Tiktok, youtube etc on this topic) - So you’ve established the root of your people pleasing, now you need to re-write the script. You need to work on this everyday, with affirmations, journalling and ACTIONS that (at first might feel like swimming against the tide) but ultimately will get you to a place of HEALTHY love. For example, if you are prone to hyper-fixating on a man for attention and validation. You need to focus on giving this to yourself. When you self validate, nothing or no one can take this away from you. This looks like telling yourself and giving yourself everything you CRAVE. Not from him, not from your friends, but from within. Yes, it will take some effort and work, but do you want to play out your broken childhood wounds or start living from a place of power? - Once you’ve worked on your self concept and taken the time to fill your own cup, it’s time to start dating and learning to put yourself first. This might take some practise, but keep trying, keep prioritising you, and if you slip up, don’t beat yourself up. Growth is not a straight-line. The most important thing is you're trying your best and moving in the direction of self love and healing.

Many people think I hate the church, so I constantly criticize and make fun of her.
Not true!
I don't hate the church at all.
In fact, I owe her a lot. I consider her my spiritual mother in many ways.
But like some mothers, she was too controlling and sometimes even abusive for me to live with her.
I will continue challenging her to be her best self, and to be a safe place for people like me and you.
She needs to give up her need for control, and the use of abuse to maintain it.
That's all.
Would you encourage a woman to stay with a man who assaulted her once in a while, even though he provides a roof over her head, food, and financial security?
No!
We'd help her figure out a way to escape to make a happy life of her own beyond his control and abuse.
In a way it's complicated because we did receive a lot of good from her, but we simply can't put up with what we sacrificed for it.
Do you relate?

Healing Can Be Hard
Healing can indeed be a challenging journey.
To overcome a lifetime, perhaps even generations, of trauma requires courage and dedication. It's not a quick fix or an easy path. It's about confronting deep-rooted wounds and gradually unraveling the layers of pain that have accumulated over time.
The process can be daunting, overwhelming, and at times, downright frustrating. It's like navigating through a dense forest, where the path ahead is obscured by darkness and uncertainty. There are moments when it feels like you're making progress, only to encounter setbacks that send you spiraling backward.
But amidst the struggles and setbacks, there is resilience. There is strength in the willingness to confront the past and the determination to create a brighter future. Every step forward, no matter how small, is a triumph in itself. It's a testament to your bravery and your unwavering commitment to healing.
So, if you ever find yourself feeling discouraged or overwhelmed, remember this: healing is not linear. It's okay to stumble along the way. It's okay to feel lost or uncertain. What matters is that you keep moving forward, one step at a time, with faith in your own resilience and the knowledge that brighter days lie ahead.
You are not alone on this journey. Reach out for support when you need it, lean on your loved ones, and never underestimate the power of self-compassion. Healing may be hard, but it is also profoundly transformative. And with each hurdle you overcome, you become stronger, wiser, and more resilient than ever before. Keep going, dear friend. You've got this. 🌱💛

Mental Health Stigma in the BIPOC Communities
??Did You Know??
The Community of Color is disproportionately impacted by disparities surrounding our mental and physical health.
The Community of Color is also plagued by Mental Health Stigma that stems from multiple factors including, Culture and Beliefs, Historical and Racial Trauma, Lack of Culturally Competent Care, Intersectional Discrimination, and Stereotypes.
Systemic Racism is a major factor in why communities of color continue to be underserved, marginalized, and ignored.
The standard healthcare system is not designed nor properly equipped to address the disparities that severely impact communities of color. While some strides are being made to help address these disparities, one of the biggest problems is that we do not have enough representation in the fields and positions to properly address these issues.
Studies have shown that in demographics where there were more providers of color, the quality of health of the community members improved, there were fewer reports of ER visits by these members, and an increase of members seeking routine care.
I came into the healthcare space, not only wanting to make a positive change but also to bring awareness to why we need more representation and community education.
The Black community has the highest rate of disproportionately being misdiagnosed with chronic or severe mental health disorders and conditions, such as Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, BPD, etc. Even though, they may be suffering from severe depression, stress, and anxiety. This is also true for the woman population as well.
Without acknowledging the environmental, socioeconomic, and social well-being factors of an individual, you are not fully addressing what could be contributing to a decline in mental and physical health.

Is the shame familiar? We commonly internalize shame when our relationships fail and question what we could have done differently.
It's comforting to truly understand that you can't change people. We often find ourselves in the futile pursuit of changing others, hoping their words and actions will bring us a sense of security, even though this is never enduring. Our unconscious behavioral patterns, particularly our attachment styles, influence our relationships. Attraction in adulthood is the enactment of our earliest attachment patterns with our caregivers. Like a key that fits a lock, we find the perfect match for our attachment pattern.
Someone with an avoidant attachment style will appear inconsistent with the expression of love. Oddly, that attachment style is an ideal match for someone with an anxious attachment style who needs a lot of reassurance that they are loved. The blend creates a push-pull dynamic. These seemingly different approaches to love are very similar and often flip depending on the relationship. There are no victims, even though the avoidant attachment person seems to abandon the anxiously attached. The anxiously attached person abandons themselves, neglecting their needs for love. When both individuals are focused on personal growth, this reenactment can lead to healing. No matter how ingrained these patterns are from early childhood, neuroplasticity makes change possible, offering hope and optimism for healthier relationships.
