Yandere Batfam x Camp half-blood (Neglected reader)
DC x Pjo
Part 6
This had like a huge timeskip
___________________________
It's been 3 months Since you decided to stay at camp
It's been so good, the camp is quiet, since it's school year right now, it's currently October, the weather outside doesn't really affect the camp but it's chilly, the good kind
Percy and Annabeth have been sending you photographs of their schools, since you can't go to school anymore
Because you're "dead"
Still even if you're not studying, no way you're gonna let them get ahead of you, so you spent an entire day carving an Athena statue
You got a bunch of food from the Cornucopia as offerings
Then you pray "Lady Athena, may you please guide me, I need books on grade 6 studies.... Please?"
For good measure you decided to place a drachma on the statue
"I- I want to study... And uhhh, I've never really prayed to a god before- I mean what kind of god would - okay going off topic, I want to learn because I don't want to feel helpless anymore, I've been there, never again, so if- you could help me... I'd appreciate it, but you don't have to if you don't want- sooo... Yeah I guess, do I say amen? Um bye"
"didn't think a child of Aphrodite would ever be interested in learning"
"AH!" You yelp as a voice appears behind you
" 'Thena can you not sneak up on children, that's fucking creepy"
You tilt your head "Mr. D???"
"kid next time you want to study just bother Chiron, there's legal procedures to this kinds of things" he groaned
You were about to apologize but then Athena spoke up for you "Nonsense, if she wants an education is it not reasonable to get it from the best?"
She turns to you "kid, what do you want to know about?"
With great determination you say "I want to know everything I can manage to learn"
"really?" She smirked
"Yes. Whatever you can teach me, how to use an abacus, what body part do you stab someone to kill them in an instant, how to crochet, whatever you can teach"
"yeah while you two are at it can you teach her how to undo my punishment" Mr D opens another new diet coke
______________________________
"Gods- Wait crap" you collapse on the floor
4 fucking hours now, she's been training you for four hours, Mr D had finished 55 diet cokes watching and laughing at you
Out of every fight, she wins, of course she does, out of every train, sparring, archery and everything she made you try
"new rule, all you have to do is make sure this cloth touches me, whether it be a momentary graze or wrap it around me, it just needs to make contact, and I will try to push you out of bounds" she says pulling out a blue cloth and a bunch of rocks and twigs form a square
You didn't think it'd be easy, at all, she'd dodge and dodge and dodge
You lunge at her and change direction to where she's going, but she flies instead
The sun is going down, and Athena flies down and kicks you near the bounds
"AHHH! ow! Shit!" Your form looks disfigured, your arm is under your body and it doesn't look good
You cry, tears coming out as you try to not scream "I fell the wrong way, I-" you sob on the ground
"Shit, Thena what did you do?!?" Mr D stands up
"I'm sorry- I didn't, help please...." You scream in pain
Athena teleports to you and kneels, she turns to Mr D "I'll call on Apollo to heal her arm and-" she stops talking
She stops talking as she feels a silky texture on her cheeck
With wide eyes she looks at you, and your smug smile, that stupid smile
"I finally won against you" you stand up and dust yourself off
You can't beat the goddess of wisdom, but- you can trick her
"huh..." She says
Mr D spikes his diet coke on the ground "(name) go fuck yourself"

I'm about to take a test rn, it's mathematics 😀
Anyways enjoy the chapter:3

Hihi can you do a luke x reader fic where reader has had a crush on him for the longest time but he never liked her back and once she started to loose feelings and liking other people he gets jealous and ends up liking her and they get tgt in the end
I love ur writing sm!!🙈🙈
THANK YOU!! 😽😽
I actually have the perfect idea for this in my drafts, omg.
EVERY1 WANTS HIM. luke (pjo)
( master list )
IN WHICH… Y/N L/N realizes she didn’t the only girl hopelessly in love with Luke. And when she finally lets him go, that’s when he decides to reciprocate her precious feelings.
“Everyone wants him, that was my crime. The wrong place at the right time.”
Warnings : Y/N is kind of girly, details differ, angst
Tumblr media
Love was a funny topic. It often left you breathless with your head spinning and your heart pounding so fast that you feared it would abruptly stop. Or sometimes, it filled you with a sense of dread and envy that engulfed you. Y/N was the latter.
Being an Aphrodite child, she had no problem catching the attention of the guys at camp, including Luke Castellan’s.
He was the golden boy, the role model, the literal blueprint to a great demigod warrior. And Y/N was practically perfection in a human’s body. So why was keeping his attention so hard?
Y/N had tried to deny her feelings for Luke after realising he rarely batted an eye in her direction, yet every time she smelled his cologne, she almost swooned. Him sending her occasional bright grins when he decided to acknowledge her didn’t help either.
“Y/N, can you help Luke with setting up the targets?” Chiron’s voice snapped Y/N back to reality. She suddenly remembered that she was standing on a large grassy plane, awaiting to teach a band of small kids archery. Well, more like Luke was going to do the teaching part. She was only there as a small punishment for being out past curfew.
“Right.” She stammered, hurrying over to Luke. He handed her a target from his pile and when their fingers brushed, Y/N almost jolted. “Sorry.” She muttered.
She felt a little stupid right now. She wasn’t usually the shy one when it came to interactions with guys. Luke merely smiled, his gaze following her as she placed the target down, providing Y/N with false hope.
“You’re better at archery than I am. You should be teaching.” Luke uttered after a moment of silence. Chiron had already wandered off to attend to other parts of camp, leaving the pair of older kids alone.
“I’m not that good.” Y/N quickly replied.
Luke was silent for a minute more before he spoke again. “Why do you act so defenceless and dumb?”
It took Y/N a short second to register his words. “Excuse me?” She choked out. Was he insulting her? Last time she checked, she was decently smart. Definitely not on Annabeth’s level but her grades had always been higher than average.
“I’m not calling you dumb.” Luke quickly corrected himself, “But I’m just wondering why you pretend to be so weak when you’re actually a good fighter and why you hide your intelligent side and focus on your looks. Why do you act stupid to get male validation?”
Y/N didn’t know the answer to his random question. “Nobody likes a smart and strong girl.” She whispered as she set up the last target.
“Well, I must be a nobody then. My type is smart and strong.” Luke grinned before his eyes darted over to Silena, who stood a few meters away. “Your sister’s waiting for you.”
Y/N glanced over her shoulder, subtly waving at Silena. “I’ll get going then. Bye, Luke.”
“See ya, Duke.”
Y/N momentarily paused, “What did you just call me?” She asked in confusion.
“Duke. As in, Heather Duke? You know, from Heathers? She acts dumb but is actually really smart, just like you.”
Y/N could only stare at Luke with her lips slightly parted. “Okay.” She breathed. “Bye.” She jogged over to Silena, quickly grabbing her half-sister’s arm.
“He gave me a nickname.” She whispered to Silena.
On instinct, Silena squealed. “Oh, my gosh! He’s totally into you!” The younger camper effortlessly fed Y/N’s delusions. “Make your move at the campfire tonight, don’t be shy!” Silena nudged Y/N with her elbow.
“Do you think he actually likes me?” She mumbled. Silena immediately nodded. Y/N shakily inhaled. “I guess I could… sit with him at the campfire.”
Silena happily clapped her hands. “Let’s go find you the perfect outfit!”
The campfire was in a few hours. The sun was slowly beginning to set, giving Camp Half-Blood a break from its harsh and burning rays.
Silena dug around in Y/N’s closet, messily throwing articles of clothing over her shoulder.
“What on earth are you doing?” Drew scowled in disapproval as she was hit in the face with a short brown skirt.
“Y/N’s going to make a move on Luke and she needs to look sexy!” Silena exclaimed amongst all the chaos.
Drew lightly scoffed. “Just throw her into a black top and mini skirt. She looks good in anything.”
Silena gasped as she stood up straight. “You’re right!” She scrambled around to find what she was looking for before shoving a black off-shoulder top and a short grey and white plaid skirt with hints of brown into Y/N’s arms. “Get changed! Now!”
Y/N quickly hurried into the bathroom, a little overwhelmed by Silena’s sudden enthusiasm.
“Are you sure about this?” She mumbled, trying to tug the skirt down. She usually wore short skirts but never in front of Luke.
“It’s fine, stop fidgeting with it.” Drew snapped, linking arms with Y/N. Silena did the same on the other side, the two girls practically dragging Y/N out of the cabin. She nervously gulped as they neared the roaring fire.
“I’ve never seen you this nervous.” Drew piped up. It was true. Y/N was almost like a flirting machine yet her heart was always stuck on Luke Castellan.
Y/N’s eyes scanned the small crowd huddled around the campfire, freezing when she spotted Luke in the company of another girl. Silena, wondering why Y/N had abruptly stopped walking, followed her gaze.
“Oh… that’s…” Silena wrinkled up her nose, nudging Drew.
“That’s not right.” Drew furrowed her eyebrows together.
Y/N watched with an aching heart as Luke slung an arm around the girl’s shoulder and leaned in to kiss her cheek.
The girl in Luke’s arms immediately glanced at Y/N, knowingly grinning as if to silently say “There’s another girl in Luke Castellan’s life”.
Y/N almost started trembling. “I…” She clawed at her throat, “I can’t breathe.”
Drew immediately grabbed Y/N’s wrists. “Calm down.” She demanded, “You are Y/N fucking L/N. You don’t need a man. You are an absolute powerhouse by yourself!”
Y/N shakily inhaled before she nodded. She resisted the urge to glance at Luke again, knowing it would only suffocate her even more.
“Y/N, no offence, but maybe Luke just… doesn’t like you as much as you like him.” Silena murmured, despite being one of the only people that constantly fed Y/N’s imagination.
Y/N stared at the ground, feeling a mix of anger, sadness, and happiness all in one. Angry that Luke led her on. Sad that Luke would never see her the way she saw him. And happy that she no longer had to withstand the pain of seeing him with other girls.
“We can skip the campfire.” Silena gently said, placing a hand on Y/N’s shoulder.
Y/N quickly lifted her head, her lips curved into a delicate frown. “No. Find me someone to flirt with.”
“Theo, Ares kid. Handsome, good fighter, surprisingly didn’t inherit his dad’s anger issues.” Drew pointed a tall brunette boy sitting amongst his siblings. As Y/N stormed off towards Theo, Drew leaned to the side to whisper to Silena.
“She really is mother’s daughter.”
“Theo. Hi.” Y/N stopped in front of the teenager, smiling at him. Theo paused, lifting his gaze to stare at Y/N in surprise.
“Oh! Y/N… hi!” Theo looked unnaturally happy to see Y/N. He grinned up at her, welcoming her to sit next to him.
“I thought you would be sitting with Silena and Drew.”
“I decided I needed a change.” Y/N clasped her hands together as she gazed at Theo. She saw his cheeks turn bright red.
“And you chose to sit next to me of all people?”
Y/N shrugged, “Yes. Is there something wrong with that?”
“No!” Theo stammered, “I just wasn’t expecting you to sit with me! Because you’re so pretty- does that sound weird? Uh, you’re just really beautiful- that sounds weird.”
Theo’s siblings looked over at him and mockingly snickered together as he tripped over his words.
Y/N merely stared at him, her glossed lips set in a slight curious pout. “You think I’m pretty?” She asked, batting her lashes.
“Everybody thinks you’re pretty. Not just because of your looks but because of your vibe.”
Y/N’s cheeks unintentionally heated up. “Oh.” She murmured, glancing at Silena who was eagerly watching the pair. The ravenette subtly pointed over at Luke, whose jaw was clenched. His attention was no longer on the girl beside him and, instead, his focus rested on Y/N.
“Are you trying to make Luke jealous?” Theo suddenly asked. Y/N quickly turned her head to face him. “It’s not hard to tell you have a crush on him. I mean, he probably knows at this point.”
“I’m not that obvious.” Y/N retorted.
Theo chuckled as he took a sip from his drink. “You’re about as subtle as a sword. You wanna make him jealous? I’ll help you. I know how a guy’s mind works and right now, he wants to strangle me for even looking at you.”
“Why would you even offer to help me with such a ridiculous task?”
“I like watching chaos.” Theo moved closer to Y/N, their shoulders gently brushing. “And I like causing it even more.” He grinned, “What do you say? Partners in crime?” He held out his hand for a hand shake.
“I like the sound of that.” Y/N laughed as she pulled Theo into a tight hug, “I don’t think a handshake would cause enough chaos, though.”
Theo had that same mischievous glint in his eyes as Y/N did. “You’re right.”
“You should’ve seen Luke.” Silena giggled as she washed her perfectly clear face, “He was practically fuming!”
“He deserves it.” Drew piped up as she carefully plucked out any stray eyebrow hairs. “Leading Y/N on then acting like he’s all innocent. What a jerk. You’re better off without him, honestly.”
Silena hummed in agreement. “Hermes boys are always telling lies.”
Y/N remained quiet as she wiped the excess water off her face. Sure, she felt annoyed that Luke had played with her feelings but small part of her still yearned for his attention.
“Yeah. I guess.” Y/N whispered. Drew and Silena left the bathroom, leaving Y/N to tend to herself. She stared at her reflection, taking in the dark circles that had begun forming and how her smile never looked genuine anymore. Her lips were curved but there was no joy in her eyes.
“Y/N, are you coming? We’re watching to all the boys I’ve loved before.” Silena poked her head into the bathroom, alerting Y/N.
As Aphrodite children, romcoms were their favourite movies. They spent a lot of time watching crazy rich asians, 2000 romance movies, and even gossip girl purely for the unbelievable drama.
“Yeah, I’m coming. Hang on.”
Y/N practically stumbled out of her cabin. It was still dark, the sun still hiding behind the mountain peaks. Dim lanterns lit her path as she begrudgingly started jogging around the camp grounds. She was using it as a method to clear her mind, but she unexpectedly crashed into Theo.
“Morning.” He grinned down at her. “You out for a morning jog?”
“I have nothing better to do.” Y/N muttered back as she spotted some movement out of the corner of her eye. It was Luke slipping on his camp shirt as he stepped out of the Hermes building, barely awake. He saw Y/N and Theo but didn’t bother acknowledging them.
“Someone’s grumpy today.” Theo joked, lightly nudging Y/N. “He’s probably still jealous over last night.”
Y/N folded her arms over her chest. “I still don’t get why he’d be jealous. It was fun at first but why exactly would he be envious of you?”
Theo sent her a surprised look. “If a pretty girl was throwing herself at me and then suddenly stopped and gave other guys attention, I’d be jealous too.” Theo’s gaze flickered to Luke, “And here he comes now. See ya.”
Theo slyly slipped away before Y/N could grab him. Luke was quickly walking towards her, tightly holding a beige-coloured envelope in his hands.
“Y/N.” He uttered, “Here.”
“What’s this?” Y/N muttered as she took the letter Luke handed her. For a minute, she almost thought it was for her.
“I need your opinion on it. I’m going to give it to Isa.” Luke smiled, knowing exactly what he was doing, while Y/N thickly gulped.
“Right.” She muttered, staring at Luke’s surprisingly neat handwriting. It felt like she was opening a letter meant for her. Her eyes quickly scanned over the words, wanting nothing more than to run away. “It’s good.” She choked out.
“Would you give it to her? I know you’re relatively close.” Luke sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck while Y/N furrowed her brows in annoyance. She bit back a loud scoff, shoving the letter into Luke’s hands.
“I’m not your errand runner, Luke.” She snapped, “Give it to her yourself. And I’m not close with Isa. Wrong girl, you jerk!” Y/N couldn’t help but storm off. She felt ridiculed by Luke. It was like he was purposely embarrassing her to see how she would react.
If Luke wanted a fight, he’d get more than that. He’d get a war. People often forgot that Aphrodite was also a goddess of battles and that her children were often just as violent as the Ares kids if pushed too far.
By the time Y/N arrived at the Pavilion, Drew and Silena were already sitting in their usual seats. “He’s such a jerk.” Y/N grumbled as she slid into the seat between her sisters, “Ugh!”
“What did he do this time?” Drew asked, unfazed because she had expected Luke to mess up again.
“So I’m on my morning jog and I run into Theo so we talk but Luke approaches me, causing Theo to walk away. And Luke hands me a letter without any context! So I ask what it is and it’s a letter for Isa. And he asks me to give it to you because apparently, we’re close. But I have never even talked to her! And I realized he probably mixed me up with another girl!”
Y/N angrily stabbed her fork into a roasted potato. “The audacity! Honestly!”
“Good to know you’re finally acknowledging how stupid he is.” Drew drawled as she stared into a small hand mirror and perfected her lip gloss.
Silena, always the kindest out of the iconic Aphrodite trio, pursed her lips. “Don’t say that.” She muttered at Drew. She turned her attention to Y/N. “Maybe he’s having pretty girl withdrawal symptoms.”
Drew gave Silena a pointed look. “What does that even mean?”
“He misses Y/N fawning over him and after her interaction with Theo, he wants to get back at her. Thus, locking you two in a battle where both of you are too proud to fold.”
Y/N huffed. “Maybe I should just move on.”
“Please do.” Drew piped up, “He doesn’t deserve you.”
Y/N nodded her head in determination. “Okay. By the next campfire, I’ll be completely over him! I swear by it!”
Y/N was wrong. So, so, so wrong. She was not over Luke. In fact, she might be falling deeper into his undeniable charm. She sat with Drew and Silena, as always. Theo and Clarisse lingered behind them while Luke, Chris, and a few other Hermes kids sat to their right.
“Is that the new Apollo kid?” Drew asked as she nodded over at the boy strumming the guitar. He was quietly humming along, adjusting the strings every once in a while.
“Yeah. Eric or something.” Y/N replied, her eyelids drooping. She leaned back, accidentally bumping into Theo’s knees. She tried to pull away but he held her down.
“Don’t look now but a certain Hermes boy is staring at you. He looks green as fuck.” Theo whispered in Y/N’s ear as he rested his hands on her shoulders. “Laugh like I said something funny.”
Y/N lightly giggled, covering her mouth with one hand so nobody could see that it was fake.
“He looks even angrier now.” Clarisse added, enjoying Y/N’s little scheme.
“I thought you were moving on from him.” Drew butted in.
“The chaos is fun to watch.” Clarisse answered for Y/N. “Don’t look at Luke but look at Eric. He’s eyeing you up.” Y/N glanced at the new camper, immediately locking eyes with him.
Eric gently smiled as he began to sing along with his siblings, swaying to the beat and never once breaking eye contact with Y/N. Luke’s gaze darted between Y/N and Eric before he ran his tongue over his teeth in annoyance. Why was he feeling this way? He had never been interested in Y/N before, at least not in the way she wanted.
He agreed that she was beautiful but there was nothing more to her than that in his eyes. He never did give himself the chance to get to know her, though. He only liked the attention she gave him and when she abruptly ripped it away, he felt empty. Only now did he realize how many guys were actually interested in Y/N.
It only got worse after the campfire. Y/N was no longer seen following Luke around like a lost puppy and to other boys, they saw it as a chance to finally make their move.
“Oh, my gosh. This is so cheesy.” Theo laughed as he read the love letter someone had sent Y/N. She chuckled along with him.
“I know, right?” She sighed, plucking the letter from Theo’s hands. “I appreciate it but the rhyming scheme doesn’t exactly work out, does it?” Theo immediately shook his head.
“They have great words but they cannot rhyme to save their life.”
Over the past few weeks, Y/N ended up spending more time merely hanging out with Theo than plotting another trick against Luke. In all honesty, she enjoyed his company. It made her wonder why she let herself become so blinded by her adoration for Luke.
“Uh oh.” Theo muttered, “Lover boy incoming.” Y/N lifted her head to see Luke.
“Can we talk?” The brunette asked, though it sounded more like a demand. He didn’t even bat an eye at Theo. “Now?” Luke Castellan had finally cracked.
“Oh… sure.” Y/N stood up and glanced at Theo, who shooed her off. He sadly watched as she trailed after Luke, her hands clasped nervously behind her back.
“That should be me.” He whispered under his breath. “Castellan doesn’t deserve her.”
“Did I do something wrong?” Luke led Y/N to an isolated area of camp. And he eventually said something after a few moments of deadly awkward silence. “Why are you avoiding me and talking to all these other guys all of a sudden?” His knees felt like jelly when Y/N looked up at him.
“Excuse me? I have a right to associate with anyone I please.”
“Why aren’t you paying attention to me?” Luke blurted out. “Why are you flirting with other guys when you used to only flirt with me?”
“Because you’re a jerk, Luke. You don’t have the right to play around with my feelings and when I don’t give you attention anymore, suddenly you want it again! You should have appreciated it when you had it!” Y/N harshly poked his chest as she spoke in a tone she had never used before. Luke could only stand still as Y/N pointed out his flaws.
“But… I liked your attention.” He whispered just loud enough for Y/N to hear.
“Too bad. Go kiss Isa. I thought you liked her?” Y/N was mocking him as she waved him off.
Luke stumbled back, stunned. In that moment, he realised how truely beautiful Y/N was. He took notice of her charming smile, her shining eyes, the crinkles on her face as she grinned. And he remembered how kind she was. She never overstepped a boundary unlike other girls. She admired Luke from afar and didn’t act like a creepy stalker.
Luke slowly walked away, quickly glancing over his shoulder to see Y/N embrace Theo. He had never felt more jealous than before. He could see Clarisse, Drew, and Silena watched him, each smiling like they knew something he didn’t.
“Did lover girl reject you?” Clarisse taunted him, causing Luke to roll his eyes.
“Fuck off, Clarisse.” He grumbled. Drew let out a muffled laugh, finding amusement in the whole situation.
“She doesn’t want you anymore, Castellan.” Drew uttered, shrugging. “Get over it. Didn’t you treat her the same?”
Luke furrowed his brows. “I never treated her like that…” He trailed off, trying to remember when he had ever brushed Y/N off.
There was the time at the campfire where he kissed that girl on the cheek.
And when he showed Y/N his love letter to Isa, which was really just his shopping list shoved into an envelope.
And when he purposely mixed her up with another girl.
“Oh, shit,” He muttered, “I’m a jerk.”
“You just noticed?” Drew snapped. “You realise you miss Y/N because she only ever focused on you when so many other guys wanted her attention too? What happens now? What are you gonna do, huh?”
Luke lightly chewed on the inside of his cheek. “What am I supposed to do? It’s not like I share her feelings.”
Clarisse leaned against a wooden pole, staring at Luke with a small grin. “Yeah. But you’re starting to. You’re jealous.”
Luke scowled, “I am not.” He huffed. “You’re delusional, Clarisse.”
“Maybe. But at least I didn’t fumble a gorgeous girl like you, Castellan.”
Luke clenched his jaw, something he seemed to be doing quite a lot with recent events. “Whatever.” He muttered, quickly walking off.
“I thought she was planning to move on from Luke.” Silena spoke for the first time.
“Be realistic, she’d jump into his arms if he confessed.” Clarisse fired back. Drew nodded her head in agreement. Y/N had always been a hopeless romantic, especially when it came to Luke.
“So… are we going to help him out or…” Silena trailed off as she looked at Drew then at Clarisse, both of them having identical evil glints in their eyes.
“He can figure it out on his own. I want to see how it ends.”
Luke lay awake in his bed, a thin layer of sweat coating his body from the humid air. It was unusually hot in his cabin. The Hermes building was often cold when the wind blew through the small cracks in the walls but someone made the grand choice of leaving the heater on for hours.
Finally, he stood up, having had enough of overheating. He yanked the door open, the wind feeling euphoric on his flushed cheeks.
He stepped outside, deeply inhaling. His gaze flickered to another camper walking around, dressed in a blazer cinched at the waste and a mini pleated skirt. There was only one group of people who dressed that fancy for a simple walk; Aphrodite kids. And Luke instantly recognised their H/C hair.
“Y/N.” He quietly called out as he jogged towards her. Y/N resisted the urge to roll her eyes as she turned around.
“What?” She muttered, folding her arms over her chest.
“I’m, uh, sorry for upsetting you earlier.” Luke scratched the back of his neck, hoping and praying Y/N would accept his half-hearted apology. It wasn’t much but it was all he could muster up.
Y/N, however, wasn’t that easy to break. “You can’t treat me like that then expect me to forgive you. Get it through your head, Luke, I don’t like you anymore.” She was about to storm off but Luke was quick to grasp her wrist.
“Please… forgive me. I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean to treat you like that. I didn’t know it would affect you.”
Luke was stunned when Y/N shoved him back. “You knew I liked you, Luke. You knew yet you still played around with me. And then when I move on, suddenly you want me back. You don’t get to decide that!”
“I know.” Luke murmured.
“You’re a jerk.” Y/N hissed, pushing him again.
“I know.”
Luke was expecting another harsh blow but Y/N only stared at him as she lightly panted. “You were jealous.” She muttered.
Luke quickly shook his head. “I don’t get jealous.”
“Admit it, Luke. Admit it.”
“I… can’t.”
“Tell me how you feel… and I’m yours.” Y/N stepped closer to him, their bodies almost pressed together. Luke’s breath hitched and in that moment, he wanted to blurt out everything.
How he felt like a failure after his quest.
How he thought he never truely deserved love.
And how he missed Y/N fawning over him.
Yet, he said nothing. He kept his mouth shut and he could see the hope in Y/N’s eyes slowly drift away.
It wasn’t a surprise to her that Luke remained silent. After all, he was never one to share his private thoughts.
“That’s what I thought.” She whispered, “Good night, Luke.” Y/N slipped away, not sparing him another look.
Over the next few days, Luke looked horrendous. Even Chris was staring at the boy in concern until he finally confronted Luke. “Dude.” Chris muttered, “You look terrible. What happened?”
“I haven’t been sleeping well.” Was all Luke answered with as he slowly stirred his spoon around in the soup. Clarisse, Drew, and Silena had all taken a notice of his rugged appearance as well.
“Do we help him now?” Silena questioned.
Clarisse sighed, rolling her eyes. “We have to. Otherwise, he’ll never have any game.”
STEP ONE: Lure Y/N out
“I don’t get why we’re going on a walk in the middle of the night.” Y/N uttered as Drew forcefully pushed her out of the cabin. “There’s harpies, you know.”
“Fuck them. Come on, hurry up. We don’t have all night.” Drew grumbled.
Silena was leading the way with Clarisse hot in her trail, holding a sword in case a happy did actually show up. The group of four girls wandered through the woods, their only source of light being a dim lantern Silena held in her left hand.
“Almost there.” The ravenette beauty spoke up. “Y/N, wait here.”
Drew and Silena rushed off while Clarisse stayed behind, grabbing onto Y/N’s collar every time the H/C-nette tried to walk back to her bed.
“I got someone’s dessert promised to be for a month. I ain’t letting you ruin that.” Clarisse uttered.
STEP TWO: Make sure Luke looks… decent
“Stop fiddling with the collar.” Drew slapped Luke’s hand away as he tried to adjust the tight buttons. He struggled to suck in a breath. “Gosh, men are such babies.” She rolled her eyes while Silena silently combed Luke’s hair.
“You look handsome.” Silena reassured Luke as she showed him his reflection. Luke stared at himself, feeling a little uncomfortable in such formal clothes.
“Are you sure?” He asked for the fifth time, finally causing Drew to snap.
“Oh, shut it, Castellan! We made you look good, end of story!”
Silena was quick to hush Drew in case Y/N heard her shouts. Luke sighed, adjusting his tie so that it was centred.
“I still think confessing to her on a beach is stupid. There’s sand in my shoes.”
“Hey, we offered to help you. You’ll take what you’re given.” Drew poked his shoulder before turning to Silena. “You can go get Y/N now.”
STEP THREE: Force Y/N to confront Luke and Luke to confront his feelings
Y/N furrowed her brows as soon as she saw the strange sight of Luke standing on a sandy beach. She turned to Silena but she had already dashed off, most likely to wait in the shadows until Luke and Y/N came to an agreement.
Y/N sighed. “What do you want, Luke?”
“I shouldn’t have let you go that night.” Luke answered. “I should have spilled out my feelings. I should have told you everything.”
“Well,” Y/N folded her arms over her chest, “It’s too late now.”
“I think you’re pretty.” Luke quickly said Y/N got ready to leave. She paused. “I think you’re beautiful. Gorgeous. Breath-taking. And I’m not talking about your outer appearance because as amazing as that is too, I’m talking about your heart and your vibe. I like how you’re the embodiment of pink. I like how you collect pearls and pieces of jewellery. I like how you adore heart-shaped things and how you’re always ready to lend a helping hand.”
“You noticed… all that?”
“I like how you always watch romcom movies with your siblings. I like how you wear the prettiest necklaces. I like your seashell collection and I like all your Vivienne Westwood clothes. I like how every time you leave camp for the holidays, you come back with a new fashion book and it’s all you read for the next days coming.”
STEP FOUR: High-five as Luke finally confesses (and Y/N cries - Clarisse)
“I like you.” Luke spoke the three words Y/N had been wanting to hear for years. She stared at him, silent and unmoving. He took that as a no until Y/N pulled him into a hug.
“Thank you.” She whispered, small tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Are you… crying?” Luke questioned.
Y/N quietly laughed. “Not many people notice all that about me… so if they do, I end up crying out of happiness.”
“Is this a yes to my confession?”
“It’s a maybe.”
“Good enough for me, Bella.”
Y/N sent him a confused look.
“You know, like Bella and Edward. Twilight, duh? How can you like to all the boys I’ve loved before and nor Twilight?”
Clarisse and Drew eagerly slapped their hands together while Silena fondly watched Y/N and Luke. She was happy for her half-sister because after all those years of pinning, Y/N finally got what she wanted.

THE SUN AND THE MOON
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kate Bishop x Demigod!Reader
Summary: Kate makes a visit in your universe after weeks of not seeing eachother.
Word count: 2.5K
Pure fluff. Kate is such a dog mum. This is taking the sapphic long distance experience on a whole other level. Reader is a daughter of Apollo.
a/n: there might be a prequel of this on the workings. It's still an abstract idea but I already got something laid out.
————————————————————————
"Okay, I'll come and pick you up tomorrow morning at 10:00. And if I find you two doing cheeky stuff again you can say bye-bye to your personal multiversal taxi." America warned Kate as she was opening a portal right on the fire escape outside your bedroom window.
"Just to clarify, we were just making out." Kate points out. "We were half naked but only making out." She adds mumbling to herself. She took a step forward, finding herself in your universe. "Whatever. You own me so many pizza balls for this." America grumbles before closing the portal.
You were sitting at your desk, music was blasting through your headphones as you were finishing up an assignment on your computer.
Kate opened your window and jumped inside your room. She smiled as she saw you concentrated on your work. Her backpack slips out of her shoulder, hitting the hardwood floor. She sneaks behind you and takes your headphones off.
"Whatcha listening to?" She whispers in your ear. You jump on your seat and turn around.
"Oh my god!" You whisper shouted. "Kate? What are you doing here?" You stood up from your chair, a smile plastering on your shocked face. You weren't supposed to see her until next week, so this was certainly a very nice surprise.
"Hi, baby. 'Was just popping by. Wanted to see what my beautiful girl was up to." She shrugged as her hands found your waist, immediately connecting your lips in a sweet kiss. When you draw back you notice she has cuts and bruises all over her face and probably on her body too since her suit was all ripped and a bit bloody. You tilt your head. "Did you come here because you wanted to see me or because you want me to be your personal nurse again?"
"Both?" She raised her eyebrows and made her famous puppy eyes at you. You shake your head and chuckle. "Take off your suit." You step back, crossing your arms under your chest. "Eager, are we?" She teases as she peels off her archery suit, throwing it on the floor. Now she's left with a black tank top that accentuates her muscular form and some boxers that had purple hearts on them. Of course she was wearing something like that.
You roll your eyes. "Just stay still." Your hand reaches her jaw, where a fresh and deep cut was glaring at you.
You took a deep breath: a golden aura began to shine around your body. Kate felt your warmth streaming from your fingers to her jaw. In a matter of seconds the cut disappeared. "Who did you fight this time?" Your hand moved to her forehead. "Just some thugs that were trying to steal some kind of dangerous substance. It was a pretty cool fight, actually. I knocked out three guys with only one shot." She says proudly. You smile at her being all cocky of her actions. "That's amazing, love."
As your hands were moving all around her body, healing her from every single bruise and cut, she rambled on and on about her mission. You had to force her to stay still because she was moving around trying to demonstrate how she back flipped and knocked a guy out kicking him in the nuts with her left foot.
Once her skin was smooth again you removed your hands and returned to a normal non glowing human. "Thank you, princess." She smiled at you and gave you a quick peck on the lips. "You knows you're always so hot when you do that. Literally and figuratively."
You chuckled and sat down on the bed, reaching for a bottle of soda on your bedside table and drinking it to get your full strength back.
Kate crawled on the bed, laying on top of you. Her arms cradled around your hips and her chin rested on your midriff as she gazed up at you with her dazzling angel eyes.
"I missed you." She whispers and leans her head forward. She starts to leave a trail of butterfly kisses from your collarbone to your lips. You can't help but giggle at that sweet action.
"I missed you too, Katie." Now her face is right above yours. Your hands find the small of her back and caress her there, your touch is as soft as a feather while you draw heart shaped figures on her bare skin.
"Lucky misses you too." You could feel one of her calloused hands sliding up your back and reaching your neck. "He's always so excited whenever I say your name." She then lets go of you, and goes to retrieve her phone that was in her backpack. "I've got a few videos of that, actually." She crawled back next to you, opened her gallery and pressed play on a video of Lucky being all happy and stomping around as his tail was wagging like an helicopter. You chuckle at the adorable sight.
For the next few minutes Kate proceeds to show you every single video of Lucky she had. (even the ones that you had seen a million times already) "Wait! I almost forgot." She reached in her backpack, taking out a small folder. She opened it and inside there were dozens of pictures of her, Lucky, and a couple with her team too. "I printed some more pictures for you." You melted. Kate knew you couldn't have a phone (being a demigod was really shitty sometimes.), and every time she made sure to print a lot of pictures (and yes, some of them were spicy too). You, in the other hand, were more prone to writing. So while you had an album full of pictures, she had a folder with all your letters and poems.
You couldn't help but to lean forward and kiss her on the lips. "Thank you." You looked at the pictures for a few moments and then looked up. "I got something for you too." You stretched your arm to open the drawer of the bedside table and took a small notebook, handing it to her. "It's a small scrapbook I've been making for the past couple of weeks." There's all kinds of things: poems, flowers, pictures and small things that remind you of her.
The corners of Kate's mouth reached her ears. "You're amazing, princess." She took the scrap book in her hand, starting to open it and flip through the pages. You stopped her. "Nah uh." You put your hand over hers, shutting the scrapbook closed. "That's for later. When you're back home."
Kate rolls her eyes. "Fine." She carefully puts the scrapbook in her backpack. She crawls back to you, fully laying on you and burying her face in your neck. She starts giving you little kisses on the same spot. "Come with me." She says in between kisses. "Come back to my universe."
"Katie, you know I can't." You sigh. Being long distance was certainly not easy. Especially if you both live in different universes, and don't have any type of communication besides iris messages, that you discovered can work between universes, but those can last just for a couple of minutes. (One time you left the "call" go on for the whole night. You had to toss 15 drachmas to pay for it. The inflation has reached the mythical world too apparently.)
"Please." Her soft voice was humming against your skin. You wanted to. You wanted to be with her, be close to her, falling asleep in eachothers arms and waking up to Lucky jumping on the bed and licking your faces. But you had your family to take care of. You were the oldest of the family. Your mum worked all day long, leaving you to take care of your two little siblings. And also you had college. You had missed the whole first semester due to the whole "disappearing into another universe thing" and now you had to catch up.
"I promise that I will, just not now. I have so much going on right now. I can't just disappear again after being away for months." You made her look at you, cupping her cheeks. "You promise?"
"I promise." You whisper, a small smile tugging on your lips.
She leans in and kisses you. She wants time to stop. Tomorrow morning she'll have to go back and it's going to be another couple of weeks until she can see you again. So she doesn't dare to pull away from you. She wants to be in your arms forever.
Soon her tongue slides in your mouth, sinking into you. But it's not enough. Touching you isn't enough. Her hands move up and down your sides, squeezing your waist over your sweater. Or better, her sweater that you stole the last time you went to visit her. Her fingers graze your stomach and slides her cold hands under the soft fabric. Your skin perks up, a shiver running down your spine to Kate's electric and intoxicating touch.
"Katie..." You whisper when her lips detach for a millisecond. She just hums against your mouth, her hands sliding upwards. She knows you're not wearing a bra underneath.
"Darling..." You say again a bit louder but she continues. And right when her fingertips are about to reach your breasts, you stop her. She leans back from your face, her hands don't move, they're warm, now having stolen the heat of your body. She's looking at you with her mouth agape, she's slightly panting, her pupils are blown out and tendrils tickling your now rosy cheeks. "We can't do that right now."
She furrows her eyebrows and she's about to ask why when someone knocks on your bedroom door. "Y/N?" It's your mum. You totally forgot that on Sundays she only works in the morning. Shit. She tries to open the door. This is the only time you thank the gods for having a crappy and old apartment. The handle of the door is almost broken, so it's pretty hard to open it unless you know the right mechanism to not tear the knob out.
"Quick. Hide somewhere!" You tell Kate as she panics and jumps out of the bed. She looks around and then she hears a click. The handle slightly turns and the door opens. Kate crouches down and slides under your bed right before your mum walks in your room.
You quickly put all the pictures that were next to you on the bed under your pillow and smile innocently. "Hey, mum. What's up?"
"I've made tea, do you want some?" She asks.
"Uhm- no. Thank you. I'm fine." You fold your arms under your chest.
"Are you sure? You've been in here for the whole day. You need to take some breaks from those books." She points at your messy desk.
"Yeah, I know. I'm taking one right now. You know, laying in bed and- looking at the ceiling." Kate has to hold in a laugh for your lame response. "It's very relaxing. You should try it."
"Alright." She says reluctantly. She takes a step back when she notices Kate's backpack on the floor next to your bed. Fortunately her suit was on the other side so she couldn't see it. "What's that?" She points at the black backpack.
"Oh. That's uhm- Will's. He left it here yesterday." You lie. But it was pretty effective because Will actually came to visit you the previous day. He would never own a backpack like that but your mum buys the lie and nods. "Hm. Okay. Well, if you need anything I'll be in the living room. Your siblings want to see Cars again." She states and closes the door behind her.
"Okay. Cool, thanks. Have fun!" You hold your breath until you can't hear her footsteps anymore and pat the side of the bed. "Coast is clear." Kate rolls out from under the bed and lays on your bedroom floor, a smirk on her face. You sit criss cross on the edge of the bed and look down at her. "What?"
"You're right. It is relaxing watching at that nice and smooth ceiling." She mocks.
"Shut up." You dangle down one foot and lightly kick her on her hip. She fakes a hurt face and pouts. She stands up and now she's the one looking down at you. "So, I gather you haven't told her yet?" You shake your head. You did want to tell your mum about Kate. But you know she would freak out. She's... very protective, to say the least. The first time you heard of camp half-blood or the term 'demigod' was when you were 15. You didn't even suspect anything since monsters wouldn't attack as you weren't as powerful as some other demigods. So she took that as an opportunity to keep you safe next to her. But the time comes for everyone and one day, after a big fight with her, you sneaked out, walking all the way to camp. And it wasn't a nice little promenade at all with monsters attacking you left and right every single step.
You only reconciled after the whole thing about your dad getting transformed into a teenage boy. Now you were on pretty good terms again, but her protectiveness hasn't ceased that much.
"I want to. I really do but... She'll definitely ban me from going to see you." You look down. "If she even finds out that in those months I've been in another universe and not at camp she'll probably get into a coma." You scoffed.
"Yeah, but you're an adult now. You are way capable to make your own decisions." Kate sat down next to you and wrapped an arm around your shoulder.
"I know. But the past months we became so close, more close than we've ever been and I don't want to ruin that again." Your eyes are fixed on your lap. You stop the urge to take your fingers to your mouth and bite your nails. Kate sees you getting anxious and she places her hand that wasn't around you over your hands. She speaks with a calm and smooth voice. "Hey, get those bad thoughts out of your head. In the first place, you didn't ruin anything. And secondly, I'm okay with you taking your time. I won't push you to do anything you don't want to." She kisses your temple and then presses your forehead against it.
You lean into her touch and exhale deeply. Then you turn your head, your eyes fix on her collarbone, the sun necklace you gave her is shining on her toned skin. You had a matching one, but with a little moon charm instead of the sun ("That way, it's like we will never be apart." Kate said when she gave it to you.). Then your gaze travels along Kate's features until you meet two oceans rumbling in front of you. "I really love you."
She smiles. "I love you too, baby." She pauses and her sweet smile turns into a cheeky grin. "So no head?"
You chuckle and shake your head. "Can't risk having my whole family hearing your pretty sounds." You peck her nose, making her scrunch it in an absolutely adorable way. "Those are only for me I'm afraid. I can propose some cuddling with a little make out session if you'd like." You suggest.
"Okay. That's fair." She nods in agreement. "Let's get started then, we have so little time and I have to tell you so many things." She climbs on top of you and gently pushes you down the bed. You giggle and your lips press together.
You stayed up all night. Talking about random stuff, taking breaks to make out, and chat again trying to maintain your voices and giggles as quiet as possible.
And it's in these moments where you understand that whatever happens, you won't ever let go of eachother. Because despite the distance you need eachother. The sun and the moon will always need eachother.

amor, amor, amor.
Tumblr media
956 words, explicit content.
warnings: 18+ smut, minors dni!
summary: jake knows what he wants; he wants her.
notes: for @little-worm-grant, our love for jake hits hard. 🤍 what a man.
The day had been fraught with tension, Layla and Jake exchanging biting words like arrows in a strained archery match. As Layla retreated to the bedroom, the echoes of their bickering lingered in the air. She had tried to understand, to bridge the gap, but their interactions always ended in a clash of discomfort.
Little did she know, Jake grappled with his own internal struggle. The couch became his refuge when he took control, a physical barrier between him and Layla. Yet, beneath the surface, a secret soft spot for her gnawed at him, complicating the already tense atmosphere.
His persistent way of annoying her only resulted in her getting turned on. A part of her hated that, but she couldn’t help it when he looked exactly like the man she had fallen in love with. He wasn’t anything like Marc or Steven though. She didn’t know much about him yet— only that he liked his coffee black, sang 90s hits underneath the shower (Yes, she had evidence of him singing ‘Hit me baby, one more time.) and he had a thing for teasing her whenever he was fronting. It drove her insane, to the fact that even though she wanted nothing to do with him, she still walked around with a wet spot in her panties whenever he was near.
Like tonight. Her panties were translucent by now. Damn him. She had to take the edge off somehow. Layla locked the door, shut off the lights, and grabbed her vibrator from underneath her book in the nightstand. It had been a week since she got off, and although the vibrator didn’t come close to the real thing, it got the job done. She lit some candles and turned on some soft music to drown out any noise before settling in bed. Tugging Marc’s shirt over her head and tossing her panties to the floor, Layla’s thoughts drifted to something dangerous. Jake Lockley. The man hadn’t left her head since the moment he stole her piece of bacon that morning. Might as well take advantage and use him to get off.
She shut her eyes and imagined Jake looming above her, his fingers dragging across her chest rather than her own. He was the one teasing her body with his hands until she was begging for release. He was the one angling the vibrator so the G-spot stimulator hit at the right angle which made her see stars. He was the one… Wait— knocking on the door?
Her eyes flew open and she sat up in an instant, gasping as the vibration intensified, making her eyes roll back. “Layla.” Jake knocked harder. “Open the fucking door.” Layla groaned into a pillow as she pulled the vibrator free from her slick entrance and shut the button off. “Yes— one moment.” She replied, voice coming out raspier and huskier than she would have liked. The knocking stopped. Layla slid out of bed, legs feeling wobbly as she searched for Marc’s shirt. Running her fingers through her messy curls, she cracked the door open. “What do you want?” His dark brown eyes scanned her face. “My pillow.”
“What? You already have one.” He looked at her with a strange expression. “And?” Layla pinched the bridge of her nose. “You don’t need another one, Lockley.” She pushed the door closed, but he pressed his palm against it to block it from shutting. “I do, Layla. Wait…” He raised a brow, sniffing the air. “Cinnamon?”
“It’s a candle. So what?” “You lit a candle?” He repeated, clearly amused, before his eyes widened with recognition. Didn’t Steven always lit up a candle for Layla to get into the mood? “Aha. The candles, the music, the…” his eyes glanced down at the thong on the floor. Layla’s cheeks flushed. She tried to close the door again, but his strength prevented her from doing so. “How do I get an invite, princesa?” His eyes darkened, the heat of his gaze making her almost turn into a puddle. Almost. “You’re not invited. Bye Jake.” She pushed against the door, but his hold remained strong. “Let me make you see stars, hermosa. Fuck. Please,” he rasped. A single plea had her walls crumbling like a poorly made cake. She shook her head. “Not going to happen.” But what was the worst that could happen? She was desperate for relief. She was desperate for him.
The truth hit Layla like a punch to the face, stealing her breath. A lump formed in her throat. He pushed slightly back against the door, wedging his foot between it. “I’ll beg.”
Layla released her grip and took a step back. “Fine. Beg for me.” Jake didn’t blink as she walked further into the bedroom. She was going to regret this in the morning. “Are you going to beg, or are you going to stand there all night? Watch me make myself come harder than you ever could?” His jaw clenched. “Are you daring me, Layla?” He growled softly. A mischief glint flashed in Layla’s eyes. “It’s a promise, papi.”
Something snapped in Jake. His nostrils flared, tongue dragging along his bottom lip as he turned to close the door behind him. “On your knees.” Layla breathed, watching him closely. He took a step closer towards her and sank to his knees. He swallowed. “Stay there and look pretty for me.” The brunette mused. Jake smirked. “Now what?” Layla slid back into bed, searching for her vibrator before turning it back on. The soft hum echoed through the room. “What are you doing?” Jake’s brows furrowed. “I said you could beg for me. Not that you could make me come.” A soft hitch of breath escaped his mouth. His stare sent a shiver down her spine.
“Don’t touch me. Got it?” Her eyes glanced down at the straining erection in his sweatpants. He gave her a short nod, a hint of fascination visible in his expression. “I’m in control.” Layla whispered, dipping the toy between her thighs. “You want to hear me beg, Lay?” Jake placed his hands on the floor, getting on all fours. “You want me to beg for that pretty little pussy?” He tilted his head to the side. “I want to taste you so fucking bad. Want to see if it’s true what the others say. You drive them wild. Feral.” He got up from his position, only to join her on the bed. Layla’s stomach fluttered.
“Fuck off.” Layla hissed— though she kept the toy right where it was, nestled deep inside of her. “Spread those legs wider. Or I’ll do it myself. Got it?” Jake threw her words right back at her. “Got it…” Layla spread her thighs, making Jake groan, his cheeky grin immediately fading.
She slowly pulled the toy from her wet cunt. The silicone glistened with her slick. Jake leaned in closer to look at it. Her body dipped closer from his added weight, his arm brushing against hers. “Layla,” his voice sounded strained. Layla pressed the warm tip of the vibrator against her sensitive clit, back arching up from the bed. Jake continued to watch. A soft moan escaped from Layla’s lips. Jake took hold of the vibrator, making the girl huff. “Let me taste you.” Jake’s voice cracked.
Layla glanced at him and dipped her finger inside, pumping slowly. The vibrator slipped from his hand, jaw going slack as he stared down at his roommate fucking herself with her fingers. “Show me how wet you are,” Layla added a second finger, soaking it as she continued to push in and out. Her lower body pulsed. Eyes focused on him. She lifted her fingers, showing him how wet she was. “Let me taste you, Lay. Please.” He begged.
She followed his command, reaching her hand out to have him wipe away her slick with a few strokes of his tongue. He hummed. Layla watched him in awe, cunt fluttering as Jake closed his eyes to savor the taste of her. “Please, touch me.” The words came out as a soft whisper, but it was enough for Lockley.
He spread her legs wider, moving between them. He took his time, kissing each of her thighs until she was squirming underneath him. His lips brushed against her soft skin, goose bumps spreading over Layla’s body, a nip of his teeth making her whine for more. Her fingers dug into his hair, tugging him towards her dripping entrance. “Fuck me or fuck off, Jake.” Jake chuckled softly. “Bossy, Lay.” His tongue darted across her swollen clit and he dragged the tip toward her aching opening. “So needy. So fucking sexy. I wonder how it feels to have your tight pussy wrapped around my cock.” His tongue sunk inside of her. Layla moaned, back curving. His fingers dug into the skin of her ass cheeks, his dark eyes focused only on her. The torture of his mouth drove her closer to the edge.
Her toes curled, thighs pressed against the side of his head as her eyes squeezed shut. “Fuck. J-Jake…” wave after wave of pleasure rippled through her body. Jake didn’t stop licking, sucking and stroking until her body gave out, her release coating the entire lower half of his face. Even the damn mustache glistened. Layla blinked up at the ceiling, trying to calm her breathing. Jake kissed her puffy clit one last time before crawling up. He cradled her face and pressed a kiss to her lips. The taste of his smoky breath and her arousal made her hum against his lips.
Jake pulled away. Layla reached out, grabbing onto his hand. Was this it? What even happened between them? She wasn’t ready to face the consequences of this yet. “Thanks Lay.” He pecked her lips one more time before he got up. “Where are you going?” Layla propped herself up on her elbows. “I’d rather leave before you come back to your senses, princesa. Don’t want you to kick me out of my own place.” Layla bit down on her bottom lip and shook her head. “I wouldn’t… I wouldn’t have done that if you asked to stay,” she blurted out, eyes widening a little. Jake flashed her a soft, reserved smile. “Good to know.” He replied, grabbing a pillow from beside her.
Turning towards the door, he gave her one last look over his shoulder. “You know where to find me, amor.”
Layla sighed and let herself fall back on the bed as Jake left the bedroom with the pillow underneath his arm. She considered crawling beside him on the couch, but kept herself from doing so. She was too flustered with the thought about the consequences of something like that.
What was the worst thing that could happen?
Fall in love with Jake Lockley.

it's going in the redeemed gan series :3 we'll say this is after they have accepted their feelings for each other and are together but also UHHHH my mind ran a little and i kinda made it more than just learning archery OKAY BYE--
Triggers for TECHNICALLY self-harm? Like not like THAT but like...ignoring the pain kinda thing? Idk how to label this so I'm playing it safe.
Y/N blinked as the arrow pierced into the target. "Nicely done," Link praised, nodding to Ganondorf. "Looks like your body remembers the skill at least."
Ganondorf nodded, studying the target as he shifted the bow in his hand before blinking. He studied Link's expression for a moment before scoffing. "You want to test my sword next?"
"Later…And when we have more space to work with," he muttered, looking around.
The three stood in the road, aiming at a target with the waterfall behind Paya's home roaring gently. Zelda and the leader both sat on a bench behind them, watching the two fire off arrows as Y/N studied their bodies carefully.
"Your turn," Link told Y/N as he returned from the target with the arrows.
She gulped thickly as she took them, notching the arrow carefully. With effort, she attempted to pull the string, grunting when it wouldn't bend to her strength.
Ganondorf frowned and gently coaxed her arm, holding under her biceps to feel her muscles strain. "Too difficult?"
"Yeah," She sighed as she relaxed, not daring to loose the arrow in fear of it flying some other direction.
He hummed and took the bow, testing it. "This is a heavier bow. Link, do you have a spare from your own inventory?"
Link hummed and beamed as he began to dig through his bags. Ganondorf blinked when he pulled out an axe, a shield, some meat–
"I still have no idea where you store all this," Zelda chuckled. "Was it a gift from Hestu?"
"Hm? Oh yeah. He did a little dance and suddenly, magic bag. It doesn't have infinite storage though. Aha!" He beamed as he gripped a small bow. He gave Y/N the traveler's bow, smiling softly. "Try this one."
She tested it and beamed as she easily pulled the string. "Much better. Thank you. Ah, here," she said, offering him the other bow. He put everything away quickly as she notched the arrow again. "Okay," She sighed softly.
Ganondorf watched her stance and shook his head. "Stop," he said. "Stay still."
Paya gasped and covered her mouth, face reddening as the Gerudo man gently began to coax her body into the right stance. Zelda had to look away, surprised and attempting to hide her giggle.
"Get a room," Link groaned, making the two blush brightly now.
"Ignore them," Ganondorf sighed, leaning close to her as he helped her aim. He watched her face scrunch and lightly pinched her side to get her attention. "Eyes open. You want to see the target. Deep inhale, loose it, then exhale."
She gave the barest hint of a nod as she took a slow inhale, staring at the target solely, before letting it go. The arrow lurched out from the bow, stabbing into the fence beside the target.
Y/N let out a groan as she looked up at the sky, praying to Hylia for her to finally give her the gift of weaponry.
"You'll get it," Paya encouraged. Y/N pursed her lips as she sighed heavily. "Don't be discouraged."
"Hard not to be, leader," She bit out, making Ganondorf blink.
He watched her correct her form as she aimed again, focusing on the target. He watched her brows furrow as she took a stabilizing breath and loosed another arrow. While it still hit the fence behind the target, he couldn't deny she was getting closer.
"Why have you never learned weaponry?" He asked absently, making her flush as she looked away shamefully.
Paya smiled. "I'll tell him if you don't," She chuckled, earning a heated glare from the woman. "It's nothing bad. Y/N here was just never truly interested in combat. She much preferred the magic all Sheikah are adept to. She's even taken it as far as to studying Wizzrobes in the field, from a safe distance and with a guard nearby mind you. But even then–"
"My mother was Hylian and my father was Sheikah. It doesn't mean much of a difference, but it does mean I'm not…as adept at magic," Y/N sighed out finally. "I can do little things like, push the air so I can jump higher or mute my footfalls but…that's about it."
Ganondorf blinked, thinking of all the times he'd catch her jumping around the village. He smiled a slight. "There…could be some books in the castle," He suggested, looking to Zelda. "Right?"
"It's possible," She hummed. "I read a few myself as a girl. Link, would it be possible for us to make a trip there? Scour the old library."
"Sure. Might be good to make sure no monsters have made a home there," He agreed as he gathered Y/N's arrows. "Relax. You're doing good."
Y/N huffed when he patted her shoulder and nodded, gathering herself and trying again.
Ganondorf watch her as she loosed arrows before gathering them and beginning again. Zelda and Paya had since gone off. Link was watching them both from a distance. It was clear to the Gerudo the hero knew he wouldn't be a threat but wondered if he grew worried leaving the two of them alone.
That didn't matter though as Ganondorf's eyes fell on her wrist, seeing it redden after she loosed another arrow. He gripped her shoulder and quickly lifted her arm, pulling her sleeve to reveal the marred skin.
Link let his head fall into his hand as Y/N's flushed face looked at Ganondorf in aghast horror as he glared down at her. "G-Ganny! C'mon. I gotta practice–"
"You've been hurting yourself like this," he sighed. "You're stopping for today.'
"He's right," Link said before Y/N could protest.
"Hey! You're the one who wanted me to learn!"
"Not at the cost of your limbs," The hero snapped out. "We have equipment for a reason. Where's the bracer I'd loaned you!"
Y/N looked away sheepishly. "I-In…In my house. It was too big for me."
Link clenched his jaw. Ganondorf blinked in surprise before sighing. "She gets it. I'm angry too, but it'll do no good if we continue this." The hero sighed and looked away as Ganondorf looked to Y/N. "You really should have said something," he said, taking the bow. "You felt it. You know this could cause an injury. Why did you press on?"
He watched her look away shamefully and shook his head. He knew when she refused to speak on such things and instead gave Link the bow. "She might try to squeeze in practice when no one is looking."
"You're right," The hero sighed as he inspected it. "We'll start up practice again when Zelda and I return from the castle. Until then, rest. Ganondorf, can you keep her safe?"
The Gerudo nodded and watched the hero storm off. After a long while, he muttered, "How petulant."
"No," Y/N sighed, rubbing her neck. "He just gets like that when he's worried. When The Upheaval happened, he was on everyone. He wouldn't let anyone some much as leave their homes without some security. At least, those who were close enough to him. Purah couldn't leave her lab for a long while because of him."
"The same guy that jumps out of hot air balloons into the Depths is overprotective?" He scoffed before nodding. "Suits him. Though, I can't exactly blame him. Come. Let's put a cool towel on it."
He walked with her to her home, ducking under the threshold. Y/N looked up as he slouched to make his way through her home and frowned, making him sit. "It really worries me when you walk through my home." She made her way to her first aid kit, grabbing the soothing gel and a cloth.
"It's nothing."
Y/N sighed, looking at him in annoyance as she sat on the bed. "Ganny, your neck was at a ninety-degree angle. That's not…normal for your spine."
"Neither is letting something whip you repeatedly but you continued to do so." He sighed when she looked away quickly. His finger slid under her chin, making her look to him. "Why didn't you say anything?"
With a thick gulp, she finally muttered out, "I didn't want to disappoint you."
Ganondorf studied her reaction, watching how she seemed to be looking everywhere but him. She was embarrassed by the contact and ashamed of her petulance. He smiled softly and took the supplies, dampening the cloth with the gel before gently laying it over her inner arm.
She hissed softly, grimacing as she rested her head on his chest. His large hand rubbed at her back as he gently held her hand, squeezing it as her arm twitched.
"You don't need to rush this," He said gently. He paused for a long moment before muttering, "I might be able to help you, but it's risky."
She frowned as she adjusted, looking up at him. He sighed softly. "I could use magic. Since the seal on my memories though…I've been unable to. I could…attempt to teach you to my best ability but…"
Y/N's eyes widened as she gulped. "But it could mean being who you were before."

Wiggy Wednesday🧠🪱
tagged by @devondespresso 💕
Okay, I'm piggybacking off of Devon's wiggly worm here because I've been infected.
I haven't watched Robin Hood in a long time, like, actively Years and Years, but the thought of aromantic Robin Buckley (hood) with a bow and arrow is wriggling straight through my mind right now. Picture this: Chrissy is a princess, she's judging an archery contest where the prize is her hand in marriage (because princesses can do that), and Robin, in drag, wins by a landslide. Like, she blows all those other boys out of the water. Picture Chrissy sighing like a lovelorn maiden, and then Robin does a Dramatic Gender Reveal a la Éowyn in LOTR, and while everyone else is OUTRAGED, Chrissy's lovelorn sigh only gets more drawn out as she once again claims that Robin is the winner and they're now betrothed. And then Robin is like, "ah fair maiden, it is not your hand in marriage I desire. I require aid to free my brother from wrongful imprisonment." (Steve's in jail, go with it). And Chrissy's desolate because now she can't marry the woman of her dreams, but she frees Steve from jail and the two run off together into the sunset leaving Chrissy, thoroughly unwed.
And the story of Robin Hood grows even more, traveling from kingdom to kingdom, until it wriggles into runaway princess Vickie's ear where she's run away, like four kingdoms over. And we've all played telephone, we know how this goes, so by THEN, the tale is that Robin had a dalliance with Chrissy out of wedlock, the scoundrel, and left her with child. Vicky is, of course, affronted when she meets such a man in the dead of night to cross sword and bow with her. Maybe There's a bounty on Robin's head, and Vicky defeats her, only to realize NONE of the story is true and that Robin's charming in her own, rough way. So now Vickie's doing the badass runaway princess version of giggling and twirling her hair. She doesn't want to turn in Robin anymore, but she's afraid that if she sets her free, she'll never see her again! And then, as always, Steve enters stage left and frees Robin, and Robin just waves bye to Vickie like they were having a stroll in the woods, not that she was a kidnapping victim, and Vickie's left, bereft, and sighing longingly about the one that got away.
No bitches Robin and Steve have NO idea about the trail she's leaving in her wake. Okay, anyway. I'm at work. Time to stop this nonsense lol. This has been a worm that wriggled from one ear, straight to another <3

𝕸𝖞 𝖙𝖗𝖚𝖓𝖐𝖘 𝖜𝖊𝖗𝖊 packed, Sadie was in her cage, my stuff was being taken out to the train. However, my body was outside of Severus' office door and I knocked.
"Since when do you have to knock to come in?" He said as he opened the door. "Come in."
I came in and then sat on his bed. "Sev, I-"
He pressed his lips to mine and said, "I'm glad you can walk."
"I took so many things for granted." I whispered. "I'm not going to do that anymore." I kissed him back.
"You're going home?" Severus asked, cupping my chin in his hand.
"Yes." I said. "But I know where you live so I'll come visit. . . only if you want of course."
Severus hesitated. "I know the Dark Lord's sending Wormtail in as a sort of. . . helper."
I nodded, "It's a good thing I'm not human then." I turned into a cat and kneaded his knee with my paw. He laughed.
"Very well then." He said, picking me up under my front legs, letting my back legs dangle. I glared at him. "Hmm. . . you need a name. Like-" He could barely keep his face straight. "Mittens."
I hissed and turned back into a human and he collapsed under my weight and we were both laying on the floor. "Call me mittens again." I growled threateningly.
"Ooh scary." he muttered, holding my face in his hands.
I hissed again.
He grinned and pulled my head down so that he could kiss me again. "Your father's going to let you come to my house?"
"Well." I said, kissing his neck. "He's going to be in and out a bit and I highly doubt Trang's parents are going to let me hang out for her so what else was I going to do over the summer? Homework?"
He snorted, "You probably have your homework done already, don't you?"
I grinned. "Almost."
He rolled his eyes. "You're going to be late for the train."
"Good thing I can run now." I said, getting up off of him. "Love you Sev."
"Love you more Elizabeth." He said unexpectedly and pressed his lips to mine again with a ferocity unmatched by mine.
And then I was spinning out of his room and headed out of the classroom and hurried up the stairs and down the corridor, past room eleven and then paused and entered the classroom.
Firenze was pacing around, looking up at the trees with a sort of sadness in his eyes. "Elizabeth Kane." he greeted me mournfully as saw me.
"Hey, I just wanted to say good-bye." I said softly. "And I also wanted to tell you I'm sorry. . . again."
Firenze was silent for a moment and then said, "I heard you possibly saved Magorian's life."
I hesitated. "Well I couldn't let that foul Umbridge woman hurt him like that. . . and a selfish part of me hoped they'd let me into the forest if I showed that I was willing to die for them and an unselfish part of me hoped that. . . well that they'd let you back into the herd as well."
"Dumbledore told me that Ronan and Ivagio were advocating on my behalf." Firenze said. "I don't think Bane will back off though."
"No." I said sadly. "Probably not. I just wish I could make things better for you."
Firenze smiled at me and said, "Come back next year and show me your archery skills Elizabeth Kane."
"I will." I said, giving him a smile and then ran over to him and hugged him, "Take care Firenze." I kissed his cheek.
"Good-bye Elizabeth Kane." Firenze said, smiling, and then, to my utmost surprise, he kissed my cheek back before trotting off into the fake forest without looking back. I regained my sense of sanity and then left the room, sprinting down the castle stairs, taking them three at a time, so that I could make it to the carriages on time.
I caught a carriage with Ernie, Susan, Hannah, and Terry. I noticed that Ernie and Susan seemed much closer now and I wondered if they were dating yet. Then I wondered if by telling them about the future would mean that it could potentially change.
I twisted the ring on my own hand, watching the thestrals in front pull the carriage, their hooves moving in synchronized motion. As we got out, I saw Ernie paused to look at them.
"You can see them now?" I asked softly.
Ernie nodded. "I am sorry that you lost your Godfather Elizabeth."
"Me too." Susan said, coming up behind me and putting a hand on my shoulder. "I wish things had turned out different."
I shook my head, "At least we're all safe. That's what- that's what he would have wanted. Come on." We walked to the train and found a carriage to ourselves, Justin and Anthony joining us in the compartment.
"Congratulations on healing Elizabeth." Anthony said, sounding a bit put out. According to Susan, Anthony wished he'd been able to go to the Ministry with us. He seemed to have thought of it as a sort of testing of his skills.
"Thanks Anthony." I said, sitting down. Suddenly, I saw Harry walk by and then Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle met him and they attacked Harry. All of us rushed out and used a variety of spells and hexes and jinxes. Anthony looked like he was enjoying himself very much and I rolled my eyes as I sent a tickling hex at Draco.
When we were done, we had three very large and ugly slugs squeezed into Hogwarts uniforms. One of them- Malfoy most likely- was wheezing with laughter. Harry, Justin, and Ernie hoisted them into the luggage rack and left them there.
"I must say, I'm looking forward to seeing Malfoy's mother's face when he gets off the train." Ernie said with satisfaction, watching Malfoy ooze helplessly. I knew Ernie was still sour about Malfoy docking points from him.
"Goyle's mum'll be really pleased." Ron said, coming up the train corridor. "He's loads better looking now. . . Anyway, Harry, Eliza, the food trolley's just stopped if you want anything. . ."
Harry thanked us and went back with Ron but I said that I would be hanging out with the others. It was time to start acting like a true Hufflepuff- I didn't say that out-loud though.
Ernie, Susan, and I answered the others questions about what had happened at the Ministry and they were amused that I'd fought four on one and survive to tell the tale. Anthony was starting get extremely agitated.
"Of course Elizabeth was the best." Susan said. "Everyone else was hurt and it was just her and Harry and Neville."
"Neville?" Hannah asked with a bit of interest, "Really?"
I caught Ernie's eyes and we quickly looked away. "Ernie came in to fight too." I pointed out.
"Didn't do much good though." Ernie said rubbing his eyes. "But I admit, when the adrenaline starts pumping. . . really a shame you weren't there Anthony."
Anthony was gritting his teeth and looking excited at the same time and we all laughed, including Anthony.
"I would've liked a go at Goyle's dad." Anthony said, punching a fist into his hand.
"Eh." I said, "You don't want a target on your back for the Slytherins' to attack."
"Do you think Harry will continue D.A. meetings next year?" Hannah asked with interest.
"I don't think so." I said. "Because it was mostly just to rub it into Umbridge's face."
"That's a shame." Terry piped up. "I liked learning from Harry. He's a good teacher."
"I'll try and convince him to continue the club." I said thoughtfully. "A lot of his spells came in handy at the Ministry. Or maybe I'll continue the club without him."
When the train stopped, we pulled out our luggage and left Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle up in the luggage racks and made our way off the train and onto the platform. The crossing guard let Ernie, Susan, and I through and I waved good-bye as they went to meet their parents.
Harry, Hermione, and Ron were already on the platform and I was surprised, though I shouldn't have been, to see Fred and George there.
"Elizabeth!" Fred roared, pulling me up into a hug and swinging me around in a circle. "I see you're using your legs!"
I stuck my tongue out at him. "Of course I am!"
"Hi Elizabeth!" Tonks said brightly, her short pink hair gleaming in the sun. She was wearing patched jeans and a purple T-shirt and looked like she should be a rock concert.
"Did you come from a concert?" I asked, amused as she gave me a hug too.
"Nah, but I like the look." Tonks said and glanced briefly over at Dad who was shaking Harry's hand.
Uncle Moody nodded to me. I could see Mr. Weasley talking to Hermione's parents and Mrs. Weasley was greeting Ron and Ginny.
I also caught sight of my Uncle, Aunt, and Cousin standing far away and looking horrified about the group of people who had greeted Harry. I caught my Aunt's eye and we stared at each other for a moment and then she looked away. She didn't look as embarrassed now and instead looked rather sad.
I sucked in my cheeks. Harry said they were horrible people, but if I looked like mum, and she looked sad when she looked at me, then there must be a part of her that missed her sister. There just had to be.
"I dunno if that's a good idea." I heard Harry say and I turned to see who he was talking to- which was Dad.
"Oh, I think it is." Uncle Moody growled. "That'll be them, will it, Potter?" He jerked his finger towards the Weasleys.
Uncle Moody, Mr. Weasley, Dad, Tonks, Harry, and Hermione started walking towards the Dursleys and I quickly joined them.
"Good afternoon, you might remember me, my name's Arthur Weasley." Mr. Weasley said, coming to a halt right in front of Uncle Vernon. "We thought we'd just have a few words with you about Harry."
"Yeah. About how he's treated when he's at your place." Uncle Moody growled, leaning on his wooden staff.
Uncle Vernon, looked at Uncle Moody who's bowler hat was covering up his magical eye. "I am not aware that it is any of your business what goes on in my house-"
"I expect what you're not aware of would fill several books, Dursley." Uncle Moody growled and I smiled.
"Anyway, that's not the point!" Tonks interjected and I noticed that Aunt Petunia closed her eyes whenever her eyes met Tonks' hair. "The point is, if we find out you've been horrible to Harry-"
"-and make no mistake, we'll hear about it." Dad said pleasantly, putting a hand on my shoulder.
"Yes, even if you won't let Harry use the fellytone-" Mr. Weasley said cheerfully.
"Telephone." Hermione and I hissed.
"Yeah, if we get any hint that Potter's been mistreated in any way, you'll have us to answer to." Uncle Moody said.
"Are you threatening me, sir?" Uncle Vernon bellowed so that many people turned to look at him.
"Yes, I am." Uncle Moody said, sounding so pleased that I giggled, covering my mouth quickly.
"And do I look like the kind of man who can be intimidated?" Uncle Vernon barked at Uncle Moody.
"Well. . ." Uncle Moody said, pushing his bowler hat up so that Uncle Vernon could see his magical eye. Uncle Vernon leapt backward and collided with a luggage trolley. "Yes, I'd have to say you do, Dursley." Then, Uncle Moody turned to Harry and said, "So, Potter. . . give us a shout if you need us though I'm sure my niece here will let us know beforehand. If we don't hear from you for three days in a row, we'll send someone along. . ."
It was the first time that he'd called me his niece and I was so pleased that I was positively radiating with happiness and Uncle Moody chuckled. "Don't know why you're so happy Kane." Then he turned to Harry. "Bye then, Potter." Uncle Moody said, grasping Harry's shoulder for a moment with a gnarled hand.
"Take care, Harry. Keep in touch." Dad said, shaking hands with Harry.
"Harry, we'll have you away from there as soon as we can." Mrs. Weasley whispered, though not quiet enough as Uncle Vernon's face turned purple.
"We'll see you soon, mate." Ron said anxiously, shaking Harry's hand and I grinned, thinking of how much Ron reminded me of Percy at that moment.
"Really soon, Harry. We promise." Hermione said earnestly.
I threw my arms around Harry. "It's going to be hard, I know. But I love you brother. A lot. I'll see you at the Weasleys soon I reckon."
Harry gripped my back tightly and I thought that he might've been crying. "Bye Elizabeth." He whispered and pulled away and turned from us and went to join his family.
Dad put an arm around me and then we walked out of the train station and words played through my head as though it were a song. I'd never heard the words or the tune before but they were comforting and I kept them playing over and over.
And I can't make you stay But sometimes going ain't a choice And every choice you make is one that you didn't avoid
Crash the whip and ditch the car, burn a bridge, follow the stars You'll find the monsters in the dark, but nothing's worth it till it's hard Sometimes it's hard to see things clear, through your tears But anywhere is way better than here, fight your fears

camp cloudtop: chapter six
I’m kind of in love with all of these campers I hope you love them too!! Their personalities will come out more as camp continues :)
This can be found on ao3 as well.
The large tree on the side of the camp parking lot creaked and groaned as a portal opened up at its base, Keyleth stepping through. She wore a pair of jean shorts and a purple crew cut t-shirt with a small golden cloud embossed on a pocket on the left side. The back of the shirt had the words ‘Camp Cloudtop’ printed in gold cursive, an exclamation point with the dot as Gilmore’s head finishing it off.
“Thank you, tree.” Keyleth patted the side of its trunk. “I’ll see you later.”
While Keyleth was one of the last people to arrive during the training weekend, she was ten minutes earlier than the call time today. It was Miresen! Campers were arriving today! The second training day had gone well enough; Gilmore arranged it like a dress rehearsal, each team of counselors moving through their first day’s schedule to make sure they knew where everything was and what to do. Vax and her managed well, she thought. She even got him to give her a high five at the end of the day.
She entered the main building, offering a wave and a small hello to the woman sitting at the front desk, and turned left down the large hallway to head toward the music room–her group’s home base.
“I knew you’d be an early bird.”
Turning around, Keyleth found Kash walking a few paces behind her. He was wearing the same purple shirt –the counselors were given five different shirts to wear throughout the summer, but were instructed to wear the purple one on the first day–long brown shorts, and he had a purple bandana tied across his forehead. She stopped with a chuckle, letting him catch up.
“To be honest, I’m kind of surprised that you are.”
“What can I say? I’m full of surprises.” Kash winked at her, and Keyleth shook her head with a laugh.
“Are you excited for the kids? Oh, wait, you hate kids.”
“Nah, I’m excited. Maybe they’ll prove me wrong. As long as it’s not total chaos I’ll be good. A little bit of chaos can be fun.”
They came to the arts and crafts room, just a couple doors away from the music room, and Kash stopped. “This is me. See you in the gym. You guys have dodgeball at the same time we have archery, right?”
Keyleth nodded. “I’m surprised you remember that from yesterday.” Keyleth barely remembered her own schedule, let alone another group’s.
“You’re a hard one to forget, K.”
Eyes widening, Keyleth let out a sudden, nervous laugh, turned around, and started to walk even faster to the music room. “Bye, Kash!”
                                                        —
Keyleth was more than thankful that Vax was right on time, not a minute early, allowing herself time to force the blush away from her cheeks and her heartbeat to slow down to a normal rate. He came in wearing that purple shirt, but paired it with dark jeans, rips on the knees, and black converse that were scuffed and dirty. His hair was in its usual half-up, half-down style, though she noticed a braid against the right side of his head.
His eyes lit up when he saw Keyleth already in the room, standing behind a table meant for little kids with the roster of their group and her copy of their schedule in front of her.
“Morning, partner.” His voice was a little deeper in the mornings, she noticed. Oh my god, don’t notice that.
“Morning.” Keyleth was bright and cheery, masking her nerves as enthusiasm. “The kids should be arriving any minute now.” She looked over at the clock on the wall, the minute hand just turning to eight o’clock.
Vax nodded, walking over to place his backpack next to her cross body bag against the wall behind the table. “Are you nervous?”
She shook her head. “No. I’m great. Totally ready.” The speed in which her words spilled out of her mouth might have watered down her point, but Vax just nodded.
“Good. You’re right. You’re going to do great.” He smiled at her and she smiled back.
“We’re going to do great,” she added. “Partner.”
Within a few minutes, the first kids of their group started to arrive. Two gnome siblings arrived first, wearing backpacks bigger than themselves. Next came a dragonborn girl wearing all pink and an air genaisi boy who was thrilled to find his hair looked just like Vax’s.
Keyleth was in charge of greeting the parents that walked in with their kids–a first day only occurrence, she learned the day before–while Vax greeted the kids and got them settled. Most of their group arrived when the buses did; not every parent could personally drop their kids at camp, so Gilmore made sure there was easy transportation for anyone who needed it.
They were swarmed by the remaining six of their group, all coming in through the door led by Scanlan who must have greeted them in the parking lot.
“Hi guys!” Keyleth waved, and while almost all of them waved back, a small half-elven boy toward the back of the group with a snake plushy in one hand completely ignored her, pushed forward, and ran towards Vax.
“Vaxy!”
Vax turned, bursting into a smile when he saw the boy, bending down to grab him in a hug.
“Hey, Simon. It’s so good to see you again. How have you been?”
“Good.”
“I see Mr. Snake survived the year as well.”
“I made sure nothing bad happened to him. Just like you told me.” The little boy beamed up at Vax, and it took Keyleth a second to realize she hadn’t looked away since Simon ran in.
“Right. Right! Hi, guys!” She turned her attention back to the rest of the kids, learning everyone’s names.
Once all the kids were signed in and accounted for, Vax and Keyleth took the rest of their half hour morning time to get everyone in a circle, playing a little game to get all the kids to introduce themselves, hopefully opening doors for some friendships. Simon stayed right next to Vax the entire time, his little snake toy curled in his lap.
At nine o’clock, a large bell echoed across the building, alerting everyone it was time to head to their first activity. “Come on, guys!” Keyleth jumped to her feet, Vax following. “Everyone grab their bags. We have swimming first today. Everyone has a bathing suit, right?”
Vax led the group out, Keyleth lingering behind as the caboose, making sure no one got left behind or lost or tried to wander off.
“Your hair is so pretty,” the dragonborn girl said, tilting her chin back to look up at Keyleth.
“Thank you. I think your scales are awesome.”
The girl giggled, skipping forward. As they crossed through the main lobby, Keyleth heard the boisterous voice of Gilmore, and she looked over to see him standing with two figures she hadn’t seen before. A man and a woman, both dressed in dark clothes far too nice for a camp setting. The woman was pale, but the man was paler. Both had dark hair, the man with some silver highlighting through his temples. Gilmore almost looked small next to him, but he seemed nonplussed, at least from afar. Keyleth’s eyes narrowed as they kept walking, but her focus quickly returned to their kids. The last thing she needed was to get distracted and lose someone an hour into day one. Don’t judge by appearance, Keyleth. Maybe they’re just parents.

Xavier x Reader - Maybe a few more lessons. Pt 3.
Plot - During second term, you join Nevermore academy. One of the first things you do is join the archery club, and from there you get to know Xavier Thorpe. At first he seems head over heels for Wednesday, but maybe at some point he'll see something in you? In school, you go through many dilemmas which you need to solve.
Tumblr media
Part 3
───♡───
Just as you thought, an assignment. It was only the start of the second week of the second term and alresdy an assignment hit you across the face. You dreaded the thought so you slouched in the seat and hid away from everyone around you. You were in your own world, thinking of other things that had nothing to do with the class. In the background, your teacher was blabbering on about things no one had real interest in.
"Students, for this assignment I've paired you up as this is a shared project. Both parties In the group have to show their effort in this. So I'll call out the names." And there she went, calling out pairs she had made up. Some people were pleased, other not so much. You were still day dreaming, losing yourself in a train of thought until your heard your name being called. "(Y/n)....(y/n)!" The teacher raised her voice to snap you back to reality. You slightly jumped before looked at her and muttered your apologies under your breath. "Now that I have your attention, you'll be paired with Xavier Thorpe for this project." Well that wasn't bad was it. You nodded to the teacher and then looked over at xavier who sat a few seats infront of you. You were slightly startled to see he was already looking at you with that sly grin of his. The two of you exchanged smiles. For the remainder of the class, the teacher further explained on the assignment. Expectations and specific things. That was really all the lesson consisted of today. The end of lesson swung around fast, and you were packing up your things. In your head you were trying to plan out how to approach Xavier about this. You liked to be organised so you tried to plan it all out in these few moments.
Before you could finish thinking, you were interrupted. "(Y/n)!" Xavier called to you. You noticed how Binaca scurried away the moment he got close. She really wasn't a fan of him. Turning your attention to a hazeled eye man, you looked at him as if asking what he wanted. "Will you swing by my dorm after archery...I doubt Bianca wants me in her dorm." The last part Xavier mumbled to himself, avoiding looking at you for a moment. "Its for the project of course." He added trying to make it less awkward for the two of you. "Yeah, that sounds fine. It's good to get a head start on these things." You told him with a calm smile that curved up in your lips. Relived, Xavier ran his hand through his hair. It fell back into place. He had it down today. "Then I'll see you later (y/n)" Xavier spoke to you softly as he began to walk off out of the class. You did the same and said bye to the teacher on your way out. Already you started to think through the project and executing it in your mind even before you got to it. You cleared your mind, that was for later after all.
5:29. You already stood at the archery court, picking out your equipment. Xavier already got used to you showing up early. So he made sure he came bang on time. "Hey you weren't late for once." You spoke to the footsteps approaching you. Xavier scoffed and shook his head. "I'm literally never late. You are just too early." He said dramatically as he alresdy went to grab a bow and a few arrows. "Uhuh." You joked on as you aimed your bow. In the few lessons you've had with Xavier - you definitely improved. You wouldn't tell him that however. "Fix your shoulders." Xavier said sternly as he leaned againts a post and watched over you. Obliging, you fixed your shoulders, ruffing them up before they fell into the right place. "Like this Mr Thorpe?" You mocked him as you rolled your eyes. Catching onto the blatant mocking, Xavier straighted out his back. "Actually... no, push your right shoulder back a bit... and fix your posture. Also your hand should be lower." Well he was petty now. All his criticism followed with a short laugh, which made you laugh in turn slightly. "Right right." You said as you fixed yourself up and tried to please the bossy man next to you. "Now that's a lot better (y/n)." Xavier mused to you. "This arrow is about to go through your skull Xavier." You threatened him, not with seriousness. Not yet at least. Xavier put his arms up in defence and backed up a bit from you. "Sorry sorry." Xavier said.
Focusing for a few moments, you looked at the target and took a deep breath in before letting the arrow go. Again it missed your desired target, but at least it hit. Your arms dropped as you graoned in frustration slightly. Not getting something first try really bothered you. Maybe you were too much for a perfectionist. "You'll get better eventually, especially with my help." Xavier took that moment to boost his ego and give him sly comments. You shot him a peeved joking glare. "I think, I'm failing because of you." Xavier looked slightly offended by that comment and went ahead to pick up his own bow. "Yeah, whatever you want to think. (Y/n)" of couse his cocky ass had to one up you and hit the bullseye perfectly. It only annoyed you more to see how proud and smug he was.
The two of you continued for a longer, a lot of was Xavier really picking at you and making sure you perfected it. And you moaning about it because it bothered you. But atlast it wad wrapped up. Xavier took the gratitude to clean it all up as you stood there watching him. "You know, sure like to boss around." You spoke up to which he replied with a laugh. "Well yeah that's me." He jumped back upto his feet, and he stood taller than you once again. "Okay, now let's head off. Because we have that assignment to discuss." You don't even reply, you just follow behind him to his dorm.
It was what you'd expect an angsty boys dorm to look like. But it seems like he had no dorm mate. "You don't have a dorm mate?" You ask him while you take a quick glance around the room and some of the things inside of it. Xavier went ahead to his desk and sat some of his thing down. "No, not anymore. Something happned with his last semester." Xavier said casually, not seeming to be bothered by the absence. You go ahead and welcom yourself in and walk deeper into the room, shutting the door behind you as you walk in. For a few moments you just stood awkwardly waiting for him to say something. But Xavier was busy grabbing his note pad and a few pens to get the project started. "Oh you can sit down." He motioned to the bed with his head. You just sat down and stayed silent as you waited.
Seeing as he was getting organised, so did you. Laying out your notepad and a pen which you fiddled with in your hand. Twirling it around your fingers. "I already have a few ideas we could go over, I noted them down so I don't forget." You said showing your notes to Xavier. He leaned over and looked at them. Pondering as he did so. His hair falling forward, but he tucking it behind his ears as he continued on reading. He hummed to himself as he thought. "Hmm." Xavier paused before parting his lips to talk again. "I quite like the sound of this one. So let's do something with that?" You nodded and smiled at you.
For the hour or two spent in his room, you two began to map out a few things and establish who did what. He sat next to you on the bed, his legs crossed over with his notepad resting on his knees. You looked at your phone to see the time. Thankfully it wasn't too late so you could stay for longer. Xavier looked at you and tilted his head to the side. "I think we did quite good, do you wanna wrap up here?" To that you nodded, you were tired out now. Standing up from the bed, you starched out and heard a few joints cracking. "I'll go now. Since you have my number...from god knows where. You can text me when you want to do this next." You looked at him raising your brow, still having queries on where he got your phone number. "I'll walk you to your dorm, its dark now." Xavier too stood up and let his stuff just lay on the bed. That was for later. "Do you think I'm defenseless Xavier Thorpe?" You pressed the question onto him as you alresdy made your way to the door, which he followed you shaking his head. "No. But weird shit happens at this school...so I wanna be cautious. Plus your knew." Xavier told you as he peered down at you with his calm gaze. You didn't make a fuss and instead let him walk with you.
The halls were now lit with dim lights that set a nice mood. It was still cold though. They were mainly empty with a few stay students lingering around. Xavier knew excalty where to go, so there was no need to lead him. He walked close to your side, occasionally glancing at you to see if you were looking at him. A soft perky smile on his lips. When you got there, you looked at him and gave him a greatful smile. "Well, thank you for walking me. I'll see you later Xavier." Opening the door to your room, Bianca was inside and she definitely heard you say his name. "Yeah, I'll see you later (y/n). Night." And for a moment he caught the eyes of Bianca who looked displeased. But quickly shutting the door, leaving Xavier to his own. Bianca said nothing... just looked at you with something in her eyes. You should have thought this through better.
You said nothing either, instead you got into your bed and straight onto your phone to see a text from no other but Xavier : Xavier - 'good work today. We'll ace this.' You smile at the nice text and tuck your phone away. Today was another successful day. Now you got to enjoy the rest by sleeping.
───────────────────────
Ending on a slightly bitter note with some Bianca and Xavier beef... but we are all here for it. Also... its like 4am so I'm sorry if there's a shit tone of spelling mistakes
Part 4 out now ❗️

Chapter Four
What’s Up, Mary Jane? | Percy Jackson x Fem! reader.
Tumblr media
“What’s up, dude? Nobody’s seen you since lunch.”
You kept your eyes hard and staring at the lake in front of you, sitting on the edge of the wooden deck. You could feel those chocolate-coloured eyes on you without looking, aware of the boy standing to your right.
“I hate it here,” you snapped. “I hate it.”
“Aw, come on. It’s not that bad. You just have to get used to it. Everyone starts out this way.” Travis’s voice was calm and light, and you felt the decking you sat on vibrate as he steps forward and take a seat beside you.
Why is nobody agreeing? You wondered angrily. Nobody here seemed to hate it as much as you did. But then again, nobody seemed to have had the same day that you did.
You kept your hands on your knees, arms tense; your legs were beginning to grow cold in the borrowed-now-yours shorts as the dusky-blue sky and scattered white clouds, the signal of six o’clock before the right o’clock campfire, began to give way to the cool night breeze. Your hair drifted with it, blown away gently from your eyes where it had fallen in your anger to sit down.
“Was today really so bad?” He asked lightly, his words softer now. Travis could joke around and play a prank, but you guessed he knew when to be nice. Except…you didn’t like him when he was nice. Travis wasn’t an overly nice guy—he threw fake spiders at the Athena cabin kids (yes, including you), and he had a thing for flinging food across the dining area at dinner time just for laughs. He had a cheeky grin and eyes that shone with mischief. And you found him hilarious. But you didn’t like overly-kind Travis. It made you uncomfortable, if only because…well, you weren’t fond of it. You dealt with your problems in a jokey manner, not a soft one. If you had an issue you made light of it.
“Drew Tanaka didn’t rip out your hair in a fight during archery. And Michael Yew didn’t snitch on you for walking off halfway through an argument like some kind of rat. And Clarisse didn’t punch you so bad you broke your nose. And your best friend didn’t run off with two random strangers without even saying bye!”
A moment of quiet. Then…
“He hasn’t left…I saw him stuffing his face with blue pancakes at breakfast—”
“Oh, shut up, Travis!” You snapped, whacking his arm with the back of your hand. He jumped and made a big thing of it, as if you’d maimed him, and as much as you rolled your eyes, you couldn’t help the grin that slipped on your slips, as much as you tried to stop it.
“I mean seriously, how is that boy not overweight?—”
“I don’t know, man,” you groaned, finally relaxing slightly. As it turned quiet again, and the only things audible were the cicadas and random yells and laughs from campers still walking around before the campfire. You sighed. “I just want some peace and quiet.”
Travis leaned back on his hands and snorted. “Yeahhh, you won’t be getting that here, Mary.”
“Thanks for the reassurance.”
“Oh you’re very welcome.”
And silence once again. Except it wasn’t awkward. That was one thing you noticed; around Travis, things had never been awkward, and you’d been here a week. He sought you out in classes, and helped you pull an arrow back for the first time when you weren’t comfortable with the guy teaching the class. He swatted your head with his hand and made a point of calling you Mary Jane in front of people, setting all the attention on you both. Sure, he joked around, and you sometimes felt like punching him in the stomach, but never were things awkward.
Coming out of your thoughts, you cast your eyes across the lake again. The sky had darkened considerably, more of a grey-purple colour now, and stars were beginning to glow. The clouds had dissipated around, and the air around you both was clear. You turned your head just slightly, and let your eyes fall quickly on Travis. In the fleeting glance before you looked away again, you caught him with his tan ankles crossed, sneakers muddy, tapping them together gently. He was looking up at the sky.
So…he must have been somewhat distracted, right?
Heart clenched in anticipation, you let your eyes fall to him again, for a little longer than last time this time. Your stomach dropped when you made contact with those eyes, and you both looked away, sharp breaths loud in the silence.
Get it together dude! You chastised yourself. It’s just Travis!
And you risked another look. This time, the corner of his mouth was turned up in what you knew to be a classic Travis Stoll expression. But his eyes were looking out across the lake.
“Something on my face?” He teased.
You felt your own cheeks begin to burn, and your eyes widen. “Yeah,” you hurried. “Your smile. It’s awful.”
“Yeah, it’s real bad. Must be terrible.”
“Just awful. Really the worst I’ve ever seen.”
Though your words were rude, they were soft and calm towards the end. And you soon found yourself smiling too. You hoped this would be a lovely ending to a horrid day. Your heart raced.
And when you looked again, Travis was smiling too.
Tumblr media
On a bright sunny morning, hours after the meeting at the lake with Travis, a long-awaited acquaintance came to talk.
You practically raised your nose in the air, holding up a hand. “I don’t want to hear it, Percy.”
“But you said to tell you whenever Grover got hurt.”
“That was before you acted like I don’t exist.”
“I’ve been caught up with some stuff, alright?” He sighed exasperatedly. “Besides, this Capture the Flag game is today and you’re the Athena cabin now so apparently that makes us together. We’re working as a team today.”
“I thought we’d always be working as a team. That’s what friends do, Percy,” you sounded exasperated now, turning to face him. You were standing at the front of the Hermes cabin waiting to walk to breakfast with Travis, who had said to meet him there this morning. “But you ditched me for my newfound bore of a sister and some bozo named Grover.”
Percy looked like he was holding back a laugh. “Listen, Chiron—”
“Mr. Brunner,” you corrected.
“Chiron,” he stressed, and you frowned, “said I should talk to you about everything that’s happened. He said you wouldn’t talk to him about how you’re feeling.”
You laughed, and Percy physically recoiled back, like it had hurt him. “How I’m feeling? I don’t even know how I’m feeling. Confused? A mix of sadness? More confused and angry? It’s a mix at the minute.”
“You know I’m still here, right?” He grabbed your wrist swiftly and softly. “Annabeth doesn’t even like me. I had to talk to her because of the whole bathroom thing with Clarisse and the Greek lessons and stuff. Grover…Grover is my friend. Just because he isn’t yours and you don’t like him doesn’t mean I don’t care about being friends with you anymore. I’m not shoving you away. We’re both just meeting new people.”
You side-eyed him. “Are you ill?”
He blanched. “What?”
“You’re talking a lot this morning. Usually you’re half-dead at this time.”
Instead of being annoyed, Percy smiled, and suddenly his arm was around your neck, pulling you into him, and he dug his fist on your head. “Noogie!”
“Get off! You’ll ruin my hair! I’ll set Clarisse on you! She’ll beat you up!”
“Yeah, right. I’ll believe it when I see it.”
“You’ll believe it in capture the flag! We’re against the Ares cabin!”
Percy suddenly dropped his grip on you and you moved back, dramatically gasping for breath and coughing with your fist to your chest. Percy rolled his eyes. “Seriously? We’re with them?”
“Unfortunately.”
At the sound of the new voice joining the conversation, you both turned. And there stood Travis. And…an empty cabin.
“What’s up, Mary Jane? You’re looking dashing this morning.”
“Mary Jane?” Percy asked.
“Oh,” you greeted brightly, trying to nonchalantly flatten your hair. Percy raised a brow which you ignored. “Morning. Have you just got here?”
Travis jabbed a thumb behind him at the cabin. “I live here, Mary.”
“Mary?” Percy pulled a face.
“Let’s go. We’re already miles behind everyone else,” you cut in.
No awkwardness today. You wouldn’t stand for it. You were hoping for a nice, easy day.
That hope was shattered.
“Capture the flag starts in fifteen minutes!”
You could have spat out your food in panic. These sorts of games—especially ones you hadn’t ever played before—were not made for you.
“No. Nope. We have to leave,” you poked Percy’s arm as you both followed the crowd of yelling and shoving campers down the hill. “You think I’m made for games? I don’t do running, dude. I don’t do games! My muscles go bleh,” you accentuated it with the back of your hand to your head, miming being faint, “and my heart goes ugh and my stomach—”
“We’re gonna pulverise you weeds!” You blinked as an Ares kid got in your face. He laughed and ran off while you were stunned to silence.
“Yeah,” Percy agreed gravely. “They’re gonna pulverise us.” You smacked his arm and he yelped dramatically. “What was that for?!”
“Don’t agree with them! We’ve got this!”
Percy’s face was a picture of disbelief. “But you were just saying—!”
“Don’t agree with the Ares kids! We need to beat them up!”
“Have you seen us?!”
“Yes. I’m confident.”
“No you’re not!” He shrieked.
You let the crooked smile slip on your face. Percy immediately shook his head. “I know that smile. I don’t like that smile. Well, I do, but I do—”
“You don’t even know what it means!”
“Yes I do!” You were nearly at the woods now. “Yes I do! It means you’re planning! And your plans are always bad!”
“Excuse you, they always work perfectly!”
But Percy was grinning too, now.
A flurry of movement and yelling and sorting took place as everyone scrambled for armour (which, on yours and Percy’s smaller frames than the others, meant they were baggy and loose). You refused to wear the plumed helmet (and listened but refused as Chiron—Mr. Brunner—gently tried to convince you to wear it).
“I’m not wearing that ugly thing!” You pointed at it from where Percy held it in his hand where you’d thrown it at him. “It’s dusty and crusty and gross!”
Chiron laughed. There was no convincing you, and you wandered off before he could.
The game started, and that’s when the terror began.
You ran alongside Cora, a girl with bright yellow hair from a bleaching accident she’d told you about the night prior. It was dry and frizzy, and you had an urge to throw an XL bottle of conditioner at her.
“I just got bored! You should try it!” She was peering over the edge of the top bunk, while you had the bottom.
You wanted to shrink out of the way. “Um…you’re okay. I like my hair as it is, thanks…”
It wasn’t as if she was a horrible person. She was just very hyperactive and had a thing for going to the toilet ninety times in a night, so you were constantly waking up and being scared to death as something walked clumsily up the bed ladder.
“I hate this so much!” You yelled over the sounds of screaming and laughter. Your heart pounded in your chest and your breaths came out panting, beginning to burn from how fast you ran.
“So do I!”
Seems like it you thought warily at the girl—your sister—beaming as she waved a sword around in a much more excited manner than one should.
It wasn’t long before you ran into an Ares kid. Literally. And unfortunately, it happened to be a boy a lot more muscular and a hell of a lot taller than you, with a tee too tight and a sword which looked ridiculously sharp—seriously, how is it allowed? You thought, tilting your head, eyes wide. This was supposed to be a game!
He must have sensed your thoughts as you slowly backed away. A squeak behind you sounded like a rat. But when you jumped and looked around and down, you found the dry hair of Cora flying out behind her. She’d dropped her sword, and left you there.
You turned back with a hesitant smile. “Heh…uh…I’m new.”
He kept advancing with a wicked grin, spinning that sword in his hand. “I can tell. It’s a right of passage that newbies get a little knocked about.”
“Knocked about…” you gulped. “As in…punched?” You squeaked.
He scoffed. “Stabbed would be a better word.”
You screamed so loud suddenly that he dropped the sword. And through a jolt of surprise, you took the chance to run. You almost slipped on the wet mud, heart pounding in your throat, panic rising. The sound of him running after you only spurred you on, through trees and rocks and other people from your team.
And then…someone manning an area. Someone with chocolate hair. Tall and lean. Travis! As much as it was beginning to annoy you to constantly run into him, you were thankful now for a familiar face. You were sure to bring this incident up to Cora later on and give her a piece of your mind for leaving you behind.
You didn’t stop running. He was laughing like he couldn’t stop with a taller, blond boy—Liam? No, Luke—and just as you opened your mouth to yell to him, you noticed he looked a little…different.
Did Travis have a brother or something?
You changed course. As if you could run to somebody you didn’t know! Luke was only a name to you. You’d have to quiz Travis later on about the boy.
You ran until you heard Clarisse LaRue’s voice, the water you ran through splashing around you and soaking your calves. You had little care in this instance, however, because you could hear a yelp that sounded scarily like Percy’s in a baseball match at Yancy.
Low and behold, as the clearing appeared, you saw two familiar faces, only one of which you were actually glad about.
You came to a stop right at the edge of the water on the bank, one foot in, one foot out. Your socks squelched with water as you shifted in your spot, gasping for breath and practically ready to puke. You were sure you hadn’t ran this much since…ever.
Clarisse’s mocking laugh brought you from your thoughts. “Oh look, your weasel girlfriend is here, Prissy—”
“Weasel?” You shrieked, frowning harshly. “If anything I’m more of a flamingo. They’re pretty. And have good balance.”
Clarisse didn’t pay attention. Not one bit. Instead, she jabbed her spear towards Percy, and when you went interfere you heard something crackle, the air tense around them both. And you realised—electric.
Clarisse’s spear was electrified.
In water.
Oh boy.
“Don’t just stand there!” Percy yelled. He was overbalanced by his sword—you could see it as he swung. It dragged him down. He kept ducking and diving to avoid Clarisse’s spear, which she yelled in anger at. “Get someone before we’re both murdered!”
“Scared, Prissy?!”
If she’d asked you, you would have said yes. Yes, you were scared of death by electric spear. So you did what you were newly best at—running.
You took off through the woods, your shoes rubbing your ankles and burning. Running uphill was not as easy as it seemed. Finally, when you felt puke rising, you ran literally into someone.
Annabeth. Her face was a picture of pure anger as you both scrambled from the ground. “Are you stupid! What are you doing? I put you over there with Cora!”
Your jaw dropped. You glared a her. “Don’t you boss me a—”
“What’s the problem! What are you running from?” Her grey eyes were furious and she practically danced on the spot with game anticipation.
“Percy’s about to die!” You we’re still heaving for oxygen. “At the creek—”
“That’s where Clarisse is—!”
“Why else would he be about to die?!” You shriek.
Annabeth took off, and deciding she had this covered more than you did, the puke definitely coming up now—you could taste it in your throat—you decided to look around for someone who could back them up.
You caught sight just a few feet away.
“Chiron!” You screamed, and instantly, as if he was used to this type of thing and terror in voices, he was straight over. It still made you dizzy and confused to see him as a part horse, but you supposed it came with time. “Go with Annabeth! Percy’s about to die!”
No questions asked. Maybe you sounded terrified. Or exhausted. Or maybe you looked pale, because there was definitely something acidic in your mouth now—
You ran after them. You couldn’t help thinking on the way through the tall, tall trees and the heat of the sun still high in the sky, that your shoes were ruined from the water—
Your heart dropped when you arrived. It looked as if the whole camp was here, crowds of people watching the river. It was silent, and you could have laughed as people looked your way at the sound of your heaving breaths. You pressed your hands into your stomach. And watched as Annabeth shoved Percy back into the water. He was bloody, and pale, and you instinctually went to walk forward, to push through the crowd and get to him.
But you stopped when everyone gasped. You gasped. In that clear water, that cool, crisp liquid, Percy’s cuts began to stitch themselves up. One on his nose disappeared. One on his neck didn’t leave so much as a scar.
People gasped and whispered and their voices began to rise. All you could do was stand and stare, gobsmacked. Percy looked up, struggling to rise to his feet, and met your eyes. He opened his mouth, visibly shaking.
And a green light, a symbol, appeared above his head. It turned deadly silent. Puke rise in your throat.
Chiron spoke gravely, as if something terrible had happened. From your view at the top of the crowd, looking down to Percy, you witnessed his mouth gape slightly, and his brows turn up at the middle. He was confused.
Something about kneeling. And everybody did. Everyone but you. Just you and Percy, eyes caught on another, staring, wide-eyed.
“Poseidon,” said Chiron. “Earthshaker. Stormbringer. Father of horses. Hail, Perseus Jackson. Son of the Sea God.”
You two standing. Staring.
Percy’s eyes.
Everything was green.

May went downstairs and went to her car. A few minutes later, you and Daisy get in the car.
“Y/n, go to the office to pick up your class schedule,” May said.
“Okay, I will. How come, uncle Phil, didn't have breakfast with us?” You said.
“There was an emergency at the office. But he will be home for dinner” May said.
You and Daisy say bye to May, then Daisy showed you how to get to the office. Daisy went to meet with her friends. You wait for the lady to find your class schedule. You look around the office, then someone walked in and stand next to you. You look at her.
“Hi,” She said.
“Hi,” You said.
The lady gave you the class schedule. You start to read it
“Do you need help to find your first class?” She asked.
“And you are?” You asked.
“Oh, my name is Kate Bishop. And you are?” Kate said.
“My name is Y/n,” You said.
“No last name?” Kate smiled.
“Nope,” You said.
“Kate, this year try not to do something foolish. Here is your class schedule” Pepper Potts.
“It won't be like last year, I promise,” Kate said.
“Okay, will see. Now you two go to class or get detention” the principal Pepper Potts said.
You and Kate leave the office, you let her see your class schedule.
“Cool, we have three same classes,” Kate said.
“Cool,” You said.
You and Kate walk into class and Daisy sees Kate smiling at you. You sit next to Daisy and Kate sits in the back of the room. Bruce Banner your teacher starts to talk about the laws of mechanics and electricity. And you start to take notes, then you get a text from Daisy.
Daisy - did you become friends with Kate Bishop?
You - we only spoke one time. Take it easy
“No texting in my classroom or I will take away the phones,” Bruce Banner said.
You quickly put your phone away. You keep listening to what your teacher has to say.
-----
Your next class is mechanical engineering, and your professor is Al MacKenzie. And Kate is sitting next to you.
“His class is easy. Just don't let him catch you texting on your phone because he won't give back until the end of the day” Kate said.
“Thanks for letting me know” Y/n smiled.
You noticed something on your left wrist and a name appears. You start to freak out on the inside and you hid your wrist with your sleeve. The first name Just appeared on your wrist and it's Kate Bishop. But it didn't click in your head of you already know who is Kate.
After class, you don't tell your cousin anything about the name. You went to the bathroom, to wash off the name but it didn't work.
----
Now, you have gym class with Kate.
“Looks, like we have many different classes together,” Kate said.
“Is that a bad thing?” Y/n asked.
Kate smiled and you smiled back at her.
“It's not a bad thing, I promise” Kate smiled again.
Your gym teacher is Steve Rogers. He is making everyone play soccer today. But you and Kate are on opposite teams. Now everyone starts to play, and Steve starts to watch you play and he is impressed by your skills.
“Y/n, come over here,” Steve said.
You walked towards him.
“Yeah?” You said.
“You should consider joining the soccer team. I'm the coach and your skills are impressive” Steve said.
“Wow, thanks. But didn't tryouts finish last week?” You said.
“Yes, but I need you on the team. Do you want to join the team?” Steve said.
While you are talking to Steve, Kate noticed a name on your left wrist. She starts to panic because she assumed that she won't get a soulmate. She stares at the name then Steve blew the whistle which made Kate stop getting lost in her thoughts.
✬ ✯ ✫ ✬
Kate is with her best friend Yelena. Kate is ready to go to her archery club and Yelena is tagging along. Kate told Yelena about the name and there is no last name just yet.
“Did you tell this person Y/n, that you are her soulmate?” Yelena asked.
“No. I don't know anything about her” Kate said.
“I will figure it out. I want to be sure, that you will be happy” Yelena said.
“Awww. You care about my happiness” Kate smiled.
“Kate Bishop, you are on thin ice,” Yelena said.
Kate hugged Yelena fast and then went to practice. And her coach for the archery club is Clint Barton. Daisy is also in the club and she gets along with Kate.
“I saw you talking to Y/n,” Kate said.
“Yeah, she is my cousin. Ready to lose Kate?” Daisy said.
Kate laughed.
“Actually, it's the opposite. I like watching you lose to me” Kate smiled.
“Whatever, Kate” Daisy smiled.
Kate and Daisy did become competitive with each other. Later, while on break Kate watched you play soccer across the field.
-----
At home, you still noticed the name hasn't disappeared from your wrist. May walked into your bedroom
“Y/n, what's wrong?” May asked.
“I got a name on my wrist. And I don't know” You said.
“Are you feeling scared and nervous at the same time? It's normal to feel like that” May said.
“Yeah, I'm feeling like that. Her name is Kate Bishop” you said.
“What's on your mind?” May asked.
“What if she doesn't like me? I didn't pay attention to so-called soulmates” You said.
May gently touched your back.
“You are over thinking everything. She is probably feeling nervous and scared just like you. Just take it one step at a time. Let's go get dinner or your food will be cold” May said.
“Thanks,” You said.
May hug you then you go to the dining room with her. Later May told Phil about Kate Bishop, they decided to do a background check. Later, you are alone with Daisy and you told her about Kate, she is in shock.
✬ ✯ ✫ ✬
You are in the mechanics club and Tony Stark is teaching everyone how to build a robot. Kate noticed and she walked in and said hi to you.
“Did you know how to build a robot?” Kate asked.
“This is my second time. My first robot with my uncle Phil. You?” You said.
“I don't know how to build a robot. But I am very skilled at archery and the I'm the leader of my group” Kate smiled.
Kate felt a tingle on her wrist and You felt the same thing.
“Kate, are you joining the club or got lost?” Tony asked.
“Funny, Mr. Stark,” Kate said
You watched Kate leave, you smiled at her.
-----
“Kate Bishop, why are you smiling so much?” Yelena asked.
“I-I think I want to date Y/n,” Kate said.
“Wow, that is a change. First, you didn't care about dating but now you do” Yelena said.
“I got to spend a little bit of time with Y/n and I liked it,” Kate said.
“Well, I did a background check on Y/n. She is clean, she is related to people in the agent of shields. Her parents do travel a lot for business” Yelena said.
“I want to ask her to the school dance!” Kate smiled.
“No one is stopping you, Kate,” Yelena said.
“And you are coming too” Kate smiled.
“No no no no,” Yelena said.
Kate tries to convince Yelena to go to the school dance.

GWYNRIEL FIC : THE CRUSH
MODERN AU - In which Gwyn moves into a new apartment and a certain someone comes to help her unpack.]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I am so sorry-”
“Nesta,stop apologizing”
“You know I would fly to you if I could”
“Despite your lack of wings and the bad weather that caused your flight to get canceled?” Gwyn said smiling.
“Definitely. I’m going back to the hotel now but I’ll see you tomorrow okay.”
“Okay”
“Congratulations on your new apartment!”
“Thank you” Gwyn replied smiling.
“Bye”
Gwyn cut the call and surveyed the mess before her. Heaps and heaps of labeled boxes,suitcases and furniture stared back at her. She’d just moved into her first apartment. Nesta and Emerie were supposed to help her unpack but Emerie had a family emergency and Nesta flew to Cesere for a diplomatic meeting and a blizzard had hit before her flight could take off.
Gwyn could already feel the exhaustion seeping into her bones and she hadn’t even started unpacking yet. She looked around the well lit apartment. When she told Cassian and Nesta she was moving out,they’d helped her tour the best buildings in Velaris and she fell in love with this one.
60 stories high, Dune was a new building on the coast of the Sidra. It had various amenities including a gym,indoor pool,archery center and coveted restaurant. If you weren’t a resident you had to wait on a list 3 months long to get a reservation. But the highlight of the building was it’s highly exclusive apartments where she now lived on the 51st floor. Gwyn knew she wouldn’t have been able to snag it without the help of her friends and for that she was eternally grateful. Even though they’d left her high and dry to unpack alone.
She headed to the open plan kitchen and began unpacking the boxes there. She was in the middle of stacking plates when her door bell rang.
That was weird.
Her friends weren’t around and she hadn’t met the neighbors yet. She dropped the plate she was holding and went to the door. On the screen beside it ,she saw a familiar set of shoulders. His head was taller than the camera so she could only see his chest and the swirling shadows around him.
She couldn’t help the smile on her face as she opened the door and leaned against it.
“How did you get in Az? I haven’t even given an approved list of visitors to the doorman”
He smiled and leaned in to kiss her cheek. “I have my ways”
She opened the door wider to let him in and noticed he was carrying bags of food.
“I brought takeout to celebrate”
She waved a hand at the mess on the floor. “Not really ready for a housewarming party”
“That’s okay. Let’s eat and I’ll help you unpack”
“You’re a lifesaver. How did you know I needed help?”
“Nesta called Cassian about her flight and I knew she was supposed to help so….here I am”
Here he was indeed. He looked so good in black sweats,dark T shirt and a black cap rested backwards on his head.
He carried the food to the massive kitchen island and began to pull things out.
Sandwiches,fries,tacos,salad,smoothies,sushi…
“Did you buy everything off the menu?”
“I didn’t know what you wanted to eat”
“You could’ve called”
“That would’ve ruined the surprise” he said grinning.
Gwyn rolled her eyes and took a strawberry smoothie.
“I needed this” she sighed after taking a sip.
He took the salad and passed her the tacos and they dived into their food.
“What are you going to do with the other rooms?” He asked.
“I’m going to turn the second into a library and the third into…I don’t know. Maybe a guest room”
He was about to reply when his phone chimed with a text. Gwyn looked down at it and saw “Vanessa” and next to that “31 unread messages”
She raised her eyebrows. “Are you ignoring your girlfriend?”
“She’s not my girlfriend and I ended things tonight”
Gwyn’s food got stuck in her throat as she started coughing.
“Are you okay?” He asked alarmed
“Fine” she croaked. “Do we have any water here?”
He brought out a bottle from the bags and handed it to her. She took it thankfully.
“You sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah. Food went the wrong way” One of his shadows lingered by her head protectively. As if it was guarding her and it took it’s job very seriously.
When her throat didn’t feel like it was on fire anymore she said “So……you broke up?”
“Does it classify as a break up if we weren’t dating in the first place?”
This was bad. Very very bad.
Gwyn had had a crush on Azriel since he began training them in the House of Wind and when they still lived together. She hadn’t dared to do anything about it and the only people that knew were Nesta and Emerie.
Depsite that,her and Azriel became very close friends. At one point,It was like they couldn’t stay away from each other. Then Azriel moved out and it had gotten easier. Then he started dating or sleeping with Vanessa as he claimed and it had gotten even easier.
Vanessa was her buffer. Whenever Azriel would invite her to dinner or to watch a movie she’d politely decline and give a random excuse as to why Vanessa wouldn’t like it. Azriel would argue of course but she would just tell him he didn’t understand women. But now….now she had no excuse as to why she couldn’t hang out with her friend anymore.
When she opened the door and saw him earlier she was fine.
He was still dating Vanessa.
He was still off limits.
But now…
Holy shit she was confined in a space with her very hot best friend who was now very single.
Gwyn groaned and stood up abruptly.
Azriel looked up. “Are you sure you’re okay? You’re acting weird. And not normal weird”
“I’m not being wierd”
She was being very wierd she knew that.
“I have to go to the bathroom” she blurted out and ran off.
Azriel shook his head and continued with his salad.
——————————————————————————————
“It’s fine. You’re fine. He’s just a normal guy with stupid soft hair and hot tattoos and looks really good in a dark T shirt. You’re fine”
Gwyn repeated the mantra to her reflection as if it would magically make her feelings go away. She took a deep breath,washed her hands just so she’d have something to do and bravely went back into the kitchen.
Azriel was done eating and was unpacking the rest of the kitchen boxes. She packed the rest the food into the fridge and said “I’ll start with the bedroom”
He nodded and continued organizing.
An hour later he knocked on the open door of her bedroom holding a box labeled bedroom.
“You forgot this and look what I found”
He held up a stuffed Pegasus and Gwyn groaned into her palms. He used to tease her incessantly over her obsession with Pegasi. And when he found out she had a stuffed Pegasus named Sir BeanBlossom,he’d been unbearable.
“Give it back Az”
“Come and get it” he said playfully.
“I don’t have time for this Azriel give it back”
“You sound serious. Am I supposed to be scared?”
She marched over to him and tried to grab it but he stretched it over his head. Gwyn jumped multiple times reaching for it but he just laughed harder still keeping it out of reach. She kept trying to reach for it until she realized she was basically plastered against him. His hand was holding her waist and when had she pushed him against the wall? Ugh she was supposed to be staying away.
She regretfully stepped out of his embrace and said “Az I need to finish this tonight stop distracting me”
“I’ll stop teasing you about Sir BeanBlossom when you come over to my house for dinner”
“I can’t-“
“You can’t. I know.” Then his expression turned serious and he said “Why are you avoiding me Gwyn?”
“What? I - I’m not avoiding-“
“Yes. You are. You always used Vanessa as an excuse. I took care of that and you still refuse to be around me”
“Wait you took care of that? What does that mean?”
He remained silent.
“Azriel please tell me you didn’t break up with your girlfriend because of me!”
“For the millionth time she wasn’t my girlfriend “
“That doesn’t answer my question”
“You kept using her as an excuse to stay away from me. My relationship with her wasn’t worth letting you go”
Gwyn laughed shakily and shoved a hand into her hair.
“You’re unbelievable” she muttered
“I’m not leaving until we talk about this”
“There’s nothing to talk about”
“Why have you been avoiding me?”
“Is that why you came tonight? To interrogate me?”
“Answer the question”
“I don’t know what you want me to say”
He drifted closer until there was no space between them. Gwyn’s heart beat against her chest at his proximity but she stood still. Taking a step back would only prove his point.
“I have a theory….” he whispered. His hand caught a tendril of her hair and and twirled it round his finger. Gwyn’s breathing turned shaky. She was sure she was having an out of body experience. No way Azriel was this close,touching her like this. No way.
“And I’m going to test it out…”
Their eyes locked.
One moment she was lost in his eyes the next he was kissing her. Gwyn knew she would never be the same after this kiss. A part of her still refused to believe it was happening while the other part had waited years for this.
Gwyn kissed him with every bit of longing and yearning she’d felt for him over the years. She melted into him eagerly and wound her hands around his neck. Standing on the tips of her toes, she pulled him closer until they were flush against each other.It felt like the butterflies that usually lingered in her stomach whenever he was near had suddenly tripled in size. Even if she tried she couldn’t control the way her body reacted to him.
The lazy strokes of his tongue weakened her knees.
There was nothing hesitant about it. His mouth claimed hers and she was so lost in his touch,his scent that she didn’t notice when her hands slid under his chest.
Wait…
His chest?
Gwyn abruptly broke the kiss and realized that her hands had gotten a mind of her own and were currently under Azriel’s T-shirt.
She looked up at him nervously.
“Fuck” she said shakily. “Fuck Fuck Fuck”
“Gwyn-“
She fled.
—————————————————————————————-
“Come on pick up pick up”
“What” Nesta said groggily into the phone. “Gwyneth I swear you better have a good reason for waking me up this late”
“Azriel kissed me”
Silence.
“Hello? Nesta?”
An ear curling squeal tore out of the phone.
“HE KISSED YOU!!! I knew it I knew it I knew-“
“Shut up Nesta! I don’t know what to do. He came over to help me unpack and then he said he’d broken up with Vanessa and you know she was the only thing holding me back and then he came in all serious asking me why I was staying away-“
“Mmm hmm mmmm hmmm”
“And I said I wasn’t and he said some stuff I can’t remember and he kissed me!”
“I knew he was into you” Nesta said. Gwyn could bet she was smirking.
“What?”
“I’ve always suspected the only reason he dated Vanessa was to try to stay away from you. It was so obvious.”
“I ran away after”
“What?”
“I’m hiding in the guest room”
“Gwyneth!”
“I don’t know what to do okay. I just- I don’t know what to say. How to act. I don’t know if I’ve made a mistake or if I’ve ruined our friendship-“
“First of all,this on him okay. He kissed you. And that makes this even better because he feels the same way Gwyn! I’m really excited in case you couldn’t tell”
Gwyn managed a laugh. She was still shaky though.
“I don’t think I can face him tonight” she whispered.
“That’s okay.” Nesta said softly. “Take your time and do this at your own pace. As long as you’re happy”
“Okay.”
“Okay”
“Have you told Emerie?”
“No. Family emergency remember. I’ll tell her when she’s back.”
“Okay. Goodnight. I love you”
“Love you too”
——————————————————————————————
The next day,Gwyn woke up and tentatively headed out of her hiding spot. She made her way down the hallway expecting to see her unpacked boxes but the living room was empty.
What?
Did she get robbed last night?
She looked around confused until she started to notice that her things weren’t stolen. They were in their appropriate positions.
He’d finished unpacking for her.
Everything was in it’s designated space. She checked her room and everything down to her underwear was unpacked and meticulously organized. He even laid her bed.
Gwyn couldn’t help the wide smile that appeared on her face.
She was about to leave the bedroom when she noticed something on the bedside table. It was a note.
I don’t regret what happened and I hope you don’t too.
PS - I took Sir BeanBlossom. I know you can’t sleep without him so consider this blackmail.
Let’s have lunch or the Pegasus gets it.
- Az
Gwyn laughed at the ending. She folded the note carefully and placed it in her bedside drawer.
Then she headed into her closet to find what to wear.
She had a Pegasus to save.
my best friend wants to be abducted by aliens.
Tumblr media
pairing: son of athena!renjun x daughter of aphrodite!reader
genre: fluff, angst
word count: 14.6k (this was supposed to be 5k 😌)
author’s note: hi so here is renjun’s chapter to my 00 line x camp half-blood series (i’m sorry, i know it took forever)! thank you so much for all of the support, and i hope you enjoy 💞
warning: one (1) makeout session
Tumblr media
You are currently crouched behind a cluster of bushes, trying to get a glimpse of your targets through binoculars.
Does that sound stalkerish? Perhaps.
Are you actually a stalker? Debatable.
However, no matter how suspicious it looks, your motive is pure—for the most part.
You’re spying on Kang Daniel (son of Hermes) and Park Jihyo (daughter of Apollo), both of whom are at the Archery Range. Jihyo is showing Daniel how to shoot, encasing him with her arms as she nocks the arrow for him. The tips of his ears are so red that they could practically be a flare; you can see how flamboyant they are all the way from your hiding spot.
You start grinning like a maniac, excited that your plan is finally unfolding.
You had noticed how awful Daniel was at archery during a training session a couple weeks ago, and you casually suggested to him that he should ask Jihyo for some lessons. You’ve always known that Daniel has been hopelessly in love with Jihyo since the moment he saw her (it’s a child of Aphrodite thing—you can just sense it), but she’s been oblivious to it this entire time.
Well, until now.
Just as you guessed, sparks flew immediately. You could cut the sexual tension between them with a knife. You give them a couple more passionately-charged archery lessons before they inevitably surrender to their emotions and begin to date—and your predictions are never wrong.
“Another job well done, Y/N,” you mumble proudly to yourself, “Mom would be so proud.”
“Excuse me, ma’am. I’m going to have to ask you to stop loitering by these bushes and stalking those two campers over there, or else I’ll have to report you to the camp director,” a sudden voice from behind you says.
Letting out a loud yelp, you drop your binoculars in surprise and whip your head around to see who it is. You turn so fast that you almost fall backwards into said bushes, quickly using your palms to balance yourself.
“Renjun, you asshole!”
Huang Renjun, your long-time best friend and professional asshole, is standing in front of you. He’s wearing the iconic orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirt with black jeans, his hands tucked inside his pockets. His dark hair is parted to one side, with a single lock of hair falling perfectly into one eye, giving him the I-wake-up-and-my-hair-is-naturally-like-this look (even though it’s most definitely not true). No doubt that he’s the best-looking person in the entire camp, but his brusque personality makes him a rose with thorns. Sharp thorns.
You often wonder how the two of you even became as close as you are. Children of Athena and Aphrodite notoriously clash due to their mothers’ history with each other.
You met Renjun four years ago at Arts and Crafts Center, which is a hotspot for children of Athena. It was your first time at the camp, and you wanted to try making a ceramic (maybe a bowl or vase) to bring back to your family as a souvenir. Of course, you failed miserably and got snickered at by other Athena kids. Renjun, who had been sitting beside you, was the only one who didn’t laugh. He even gruffly gave you some pointers. Grateful, you complimented his painting—a mix of pink, yellow, blue, and purple watercolors that meshed together to resemble a galaxy. In return, he gave it to you.
“It’s not my best work, so you can have it,” he had said nonchalantly.
Even though it was the most beautiful piece of art you’ve ever seen, and it’s remained one of your most prized possessions to this day.
After that incident, you basically attached yourself at the hip with him. He would constantly complain about you following him around, but he also didn’t do anything to stop it. He’s been complaining for four, going on five, years now, yet he’s become your closest friend. Renjun likes act like you’re a pain in the ass (which isn’t untrue), but you know he cares about you. Even if he doesn’t verbalize it, you can tell by his actions; it’s all about the small things with him. Despite being rough around the edges, Huang Renjun is actually just a big softie on the inside.
“—could you stop snooping around like a weirdo?” Renjun asks, cutting your trip down memory lane short.
You rise to your feet, dusting your palms off and glaring at him. “I’m not snooping around like a weirdo. I’m just snooping around on one of my projects, like a good matchmaker.”
“Sure,” he says, rolling his eyes. He leans down and picks up your binoculars, handing them to you.
You take them and hang them around your neck. “Why are you here anyway?”
“Aren’t you the one who asked me to meet you at the Dining Pavilion for lunch?” He raises an eyebrow.
“Oh, sorry! I lost track of time,” you exclaim. “How’d you find me?”
Renjun gives you a pointed look. “Well, seeing as how Daniel and Jihyo are your current quote-unquote project, all I had to do was figure out where they were because I knew you’d be somewhere close.”
You give him a sheepish smile. “You know me so well, Junnie.”
“The hell? Don’t call me that, it’s gross,” he snaps, pretending like he’s about to gag.
“You’re not cute at all,” you huff.
“Neither are you,” he replies.
“You are so rude! You’ll never get a girlfriend with an attitude like that!” You place your hands on your hips.
“I’ll live,” he says, shrugging.
You don’t know much about Renjun’s love life because he refuses to tell you anything; he’s like a stubborn clam that won’t open up. However, he’s made it very clear that he does not want your assistance when it comes to finding romance. Obviously, it hasn’t stopped you from trying, but this is one of the few things you can’t seem to make him give in to.
Yet.
“Whatever,” you sigh. “Let’s go eat.”
The two of you walk to the Dining Pavilion, which is a relatively long walk from the Archery Range, but you make enough conversation that it feels short. When you arrive, you see that they’re serving chicken curry and rice. Your stomach growls embarrassingly loudly when the mouthwatering scent hits you, which prompts Renjun to laugh at you. You give him the middle finger and then turn around to grab a lunch tray. Once you get your food, you two sit at a table in the back.
Before you begin to eat, you notice that your curry has chunks of potatoes and slices of carrots on it—you abhor carrots more than anything in this world. Noticing your disgusted expression, Renjun slides his plate over without even batting an eyelash, so you can pick out the carrot slices and give them to him. It’s a routine thing for the two of you, since you’re an extremely picky eater and he’s not.
After you take out all of the carrots, you begin to devour your food. You’re wolfing it down so fast that you’re basically asking to choke, in which you immediately do. A piece of chicken lodges itself in your throat, and you begin to cough violently. Renjun sighs, patting your back before handing you your cup of water.
“I feel like I’m babysitting a toddler every time I eat with you,” he points out as you gulp down your water.
“Thanks,” you say after you recover.
“For dislodging the food in your esophagus or calling you a toddler?”
“Both!” you say cheerfully.
Renjun shakes his head at you, but he’s smiling. You take advantage of his good mood by quickly reaching over and swiping a couple of grapes from the fruit bowl on his tray. He rolls his eyes when you pop them into your mouth and wink at him.
“Um, Renjun?” A small, different voice cuts in. Both of you turn around to see who it is.
Hwang Yeji, daughter of Iris and one of the most popular girls at the camp, is standing there. She’s fidgeting, and you can see pink dusting her cheeks. Her friends are at the table right behind her, giving her supportive looks. She smiles shyly at Renjun.
“Can I help you?” Renjun asks, deadpanning. He isn’t rude per se, but it’s also not a friendly tone.
Yeji slightly falters at his lackluster response. “Oh, um, I’m going to be performing at the amphitheater tonight...and I was wondering if you could come watch?”
“Why?”
You know Renjun is asking because he’s genuinely baffled, but it doesn’t lessen your urge to want to slap him upside the head.
“N-No particular reason! O-Okay, bye!” Yeji turns on her heel and runs away. You watch her go back to her table, head hung low in defeat.
“What was that all about?” Renjun is still bewildered.
No longer able to control yourself, you punch him in the arm. “You moron!”
“Ow! What the hell, Y/N?” he hisses, rubbing his arm.
“She invited you to watch her perform because she likes you!” you hiss.
“What? No, she doesn’t.” He furrows his eyebrows.
“Yes, she does! I should know of all people, you dingus. Even without powers, literally anyone else would be able to see that Yeji likes you!” You’re trying your best to keep your voice down, but he’s making it difficult for you. “You are the densest person on the planet!”
“Look who’s talking,” Renjun mutters underneath his breath.
“I can’t believe you just blew her off like that,” you continue, not hearing what he said.
“How was I supposed to know she liked me? I’ve never even spoken to her,” he protests.
You stare at him in disbelief. “Couldn’t you tell by the context clues?”
“What context clues?”
“Oh my gods,” you groan, covering your face with your hands.
“What do you want me to do then?” he asks tiredly.
“Go to her performance tonight,” you say immediately, uncovering your face and whipping your head to look at him with a hopeful expression.
“I don’t really want to though. There’s no point in getting her hopes up if I don’t like her back,” Renjun states matter-of-factly.
“How do you not even have a little bit of interest in her? Look at her! She’s stunning!” You feel like your eyes are about to pop out of your head.
“I’m not saying she isn’t, but I just don’t feel anything special towards her,” he explains.
“You’re actually insane,” you say incredulously. “There’s no way someone can look at Hwang Yeji and say they don’t feel anything special.”
“If you feel so strongly about it, you could date her,” he suggests.
“No, I’ve decided,” you cut him off, slamming your hand on the table with determination. “I’m going to find you a girlfriend.”
“I’ll have to respectfully decline your services,” he answers, sighing.
“Give me one week,” you plead, “all of my matches have worked out within a week. Please, Renjun? The worst thing that can happen is that you actually like someone and you two become a couple.”
“And what if it doesn’t work out?” He tilts his head.
“Then, I’ll drop the girlfriend topic for good. I swear on River Styx. And I’ll also give up my title as Camp Half-Blood’s official matchmaker,” you promise.
“You gave yourself that title.”
“Shut up.”
“Why are you so adamant on finding me a girlfriend anyway?” he asks.
“Because you’re so set on not getting a girlfriend, and that drives me crazy. I want to know just who on this Earth can make you feel something special, if even Yeji can’t do it. I want to crack you, like a walnut,” you admit.
“Bad analogy.”
“Yeah, it sounded better in my head.”
Renjun falls quiet, and you can practically see the gears turning in his head as he weighs the pros and cons of your proposition. Athena kids think way too much and way too loudly; they need to let loose and follow their hearts more.
You sit in anticipation for just a little longer before you see the tension on his face begin to dissipate and his features begin to droop. It’s an expression you know well; he’s going to let you have your way, like he always does.
He pinches the bridge of his nose, sighing. “You get five days. That’s it.”
You squeal loudly, launching yourself at him so you can envelop him in a big bear hug. He grunts as he catches you, saving the both of you from toppling backwards onto the floor. “You’re the best, Renjun!”
Even when he’s irritated or annoyed, Renjun never pushes you away when you hug him. He isn’t exactly the affectionate type, yet his embrace is always so warm and calming. His words may be cutthroat, but his actions are always gentle.
He circles his arms around your waist loosely as he sighs into your hair, seemingly waiting for you to pull back to face him before he says anything. When you do, he flicks you on the forehead instead.
Okay, so you take the his actions are always gentle part back.
“Ouch!” You shrug yourself out of his hold, rubbing the probably reddening spot on your forehead.
“Payback for punching me earlier,” Renjun says, crossing his arms. “But are you sure about this?”
“What do you mean?”
“You have a perfect record when it comes to your matches. Plus, you’re losing two out of your usual seven days. Are you sure you want to risk breaking your streak?” he asks.
“What makes you think it’ll get broken?” you shoot back.
“I don’t just think; I know it will,” he smirks arrogantly. “That’s why I’m asking.”
You feel your left eye twitch. Riled up by his cocky demeanor, you grab your cup and chug the rest of your water, wincing like you just downed a shot. Wiping your mouth, you point your finger at him.
“Huang Renjun, just you wait. I’ll make you fall in love so hard that you’ll forget your own name.”
ও DAY ONE.
The Athena Cabin is a marvel to you every time you enter it. Rather than a cabin, it’s a workshop and a library in one on the inside. There are beds pushed haphazardly against the walls, and if you didn’t know that this was the official Athena Cabin, you would’ve thought that the Athena children had simply just crashed at a random facility at the camp and decided to call it their place of residence.
Renjun is still asleep, despite the commotion of his brothers and sisters running around in the library and/or constructing something in the workshop. His bed is located in the very back, hidden by a bookshelf that’s not frequented often. He’s curled up into a ball, with the blanket covering his head but you can still see tufts of his hair sticking out from under it.
“Rise and shine!” you sing, lifting blanket off his face.
His peaceful expression twists with discomfort as its exposed to light, and he immediately rips the pillow out from under his head and puts it over his face. He says something to you, but his words are muffled. You just assume it’s some sort of profanity.
“Come on, Sleeping Beauty! We have business to attend to,” you say cheerfully, taking the pillow away and tossing it to the foot of his bed.
“And what exactly is this supposed business?” Renjun asks dryly, opening his eyes and squinting up at you.
“We’re going to scout for potential candidates for you,” you answer as you grab his arm and pull him up. He reluctantly lets you, slumping forward like a limp puppet.
“Isn’t that your job?” He raises an eyebrow, running a hand through his messy bedhead. Renjun always looks particularly adorable when he wakes up. His pajamas consist of a pair of basketball shorts and an extremely stretched-out t-shirt. The shirt is so big that it’s slipping off his shoulder, which makes him look like a little kid. His hair is sticking up in all sorts of directions, and you can’t help but grin at how cute it is.
“Yes, but you’re a special case.” You talk to him like he’s five, running your hands through his hair and messing it up even more. Renjun scowls at you, but he sits there and lets you do it.
“Geez, who peed in your cornflakes?” you tease, seeing his stormy look.
“You.”
“Okay, fine! I’ll wait for you outside, but don’t take too long to get ready,” you say, finally retracting your hands. “No more than thirty minutes or else I’m gonna come find you!”
He gives you another nasty look, and you blow him a kiss before skipping away. As you head back to the entrance, you greet a couple of Athena kids who pass by. Normally, Aphrodite and Athena children stick their noses up in the air and ignore each other, but you’re such a frequent visitor that they have had no choice but to accept you. It also helps that Renjun is quite popular, so the campers that don’t like you are forced to tolerate you anyway because you’re his best friend.
That’s another thing you don’t understand—why Renjun hangs out with you when everyone around him is practically foaming at the mouth at the prospect of being his friend (or something more). But for reasons unknown to you, he chooses to ice them out and spend time with you instead.
It’s not that you’re inherently unpopular or someone that would “tarnish” his reputation, but he could probably find someone that annoyed him less and didn’t cause as much trouble as you do. However, you’re glad that he’s choosing to stay by your side in spite of how crazy you can get, because you’re not really sure what you would do without him.
Not that you would ever admit that because Renjun would roast you to high Olympus.
As if on cue, you spot Renjun trudging toward you. True to your request, he got ready within thirty minutes. In fact, it only took him about fifteen. He doesn’t look very happy, but he’s always had a resting bitch face (though you’re pretty sure he’s just pissed at you right now).
Strangely, you’re a little embarrassed to see him. You’re not sure why you suddenly thought of your friendship with him and got all sappy. You’ve never really been good at handling the mushy-gushy stuff—only helping others find it.
“Let’s get this over with,” Renjun says begrudgingly when he reaches you, crossing his arms.
“Okay, well, first thing’s first,” you respond, trying to get back on track. You loop your arm through his, which prompts him to instantly uncross his own so you can cling onto his bicep. It’s such a natural action for you that you don’t even think about how quickly he accommodates you. “What’s your type?”
“Where are we going?” he asks, furrowing his eyebrows as he lets you lead him around.
“That depends on your answer to my question,” you reply breezily.
“Aren’t you supposed to be the one who figures that out? You know, with your whole Aphrodite-love-sense-tingle thing.”
You ignore his dig at your ability. “Normally, yes. But seeing as you’re incapable of feeling any emotion other than bitterness, I have to directly ask you.”
He laughs at your comeback. “I see. But even if I do tell you my type, what makes you think she will like me too?”
“If she doesn’t, then just woo her with your irresistible charm,” you say sarcastically.
“My irresistible charm has a tendency to make people hate my guts, actually,” Renjun says, shrugging. “Wouldn’t want that, would we?”
“Renjun, you are fully capable of making a girl fall for you,” you chide, huffing at his negative attitude. “I’m not concerned with that. My main issue right now is finding someone that will make you care enough to want her to like you back.”
“You think so?” he asks quietly, looking down at where your hand is resting on his arm.
“Hm?”
“I hope you’re right,” he says a little louder, dragging his gaze away from your hand and giving you a small smile. “About being capable.”
When Renjun looks into your eyes, you feel him for the first time. Your heart wrenches with his, like a knife was driven into it and something keeps twisting it. It’s an excruciating pain that makes your lungs want to cave in, a pain so unbearably sad that it makes you want to assume fetal position and bawl your eyes out, an exhausting pain that drains you of all your energy until you want to collapse, a pain that makes you hate yourself—but it’s a pain you never want to get rid of. It’s a pain that makes you happy. It’s a pain you’re willing to endure for...for...for what?
But the pain only lasts for a moment, flashing by like lightning. As you try to reach deeper, it slips through your fingers. Just as suddenly as it hit you, it vanishes. What remains in its place is the metaphorical iron wall that you always seem to run into every time you try to look into Renjun’s heart.
You can already feel your body starting to forget the pain. It’s so fast that you begin questioning if you even truly felt it in the first place, or if it was all some fever dream. You could also be having a stroke, so there’s that.
All jokes aside, you’re not sure what you’re more surprised by: the fact that Renjun has been feeling like this or how well he’s managed to hide it.
And you’re not sure what you’re more hurt by: the fact that Renjun didn’t tell you or if you’re the one he’s trying to hide it from.
“—hello? Y/N? Earth to Y/N?” Renjun waves his hand in front of your face.
You jolt, blinking several times as you detach yourself from your whirlwind of thoughts. “S-Sorry! What were you saying?”
“What’s wrong?” he asks, brows furrowing in concern. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“Ghosts don’t exist,” you retort automatically.
“Yes, they do! How many times have I told you there’s no way that my glass bottle could’ve fallen from my bed without shattering, yet it was underneath my bed, completely and totally unsc—” He begins to protest.
You cut him off by wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him in for a hug. Thankfully, Renjun stops rambling about his ghost story that you’ve heard about a million times and trails off. His hands slowly come to rest on the small of your back, giving you soothing pats. It makes you sad that he’s always ready to comfort you when he’s the one that needs it. Your vision gets blurry with tears, but you hurriedly blink them away.
“How can you be so smart yet so dumb?” you whisper into his shoulder, clutching him tighter.
“You know, you’re sending me mixed signals here,” he says wryly.
You hug him for a couple more seconds before pulling back. Reaching your hands up, you cup his face. Unfortunately, you do it a little too enthusiastically and basically slap both of his cheeks. “Shit! I’m so sorry, Renjun!”
“Ow! What is wrong with you?” he demands, wincing. His lips are adorably jutted out and his words probably aren’t as angry as he wants them to be because you’re squishing his cheeks way too hard.
“I just wanted to tell you that I will definitely find you a girlfriend. No matter what,” you declare with determination in your eyes.
Because I don’t want you to be in pain anymore. Because you deserve to be happy. Because you should have someone to lean on too, you want to say.
Renjun is staring at you like you’ve grown another head. “Y/N, you’re scaring me.”
“Don’t worry about it,” you dismiss. “Now, hurry up and tell me your ideal type.”
“Are you sure you’re feeling okay?”
“Oh my gods, I’m fine. Stop with all the questions and just answer me!” you say, placing your hands on your hips.
“I think I’m starting to reconsider my ideal type right now,” he replies, eyeing you suspiciously.
You sigh loudly. “Could you tell me one character trait that you would like in a girlfriend? Just one. Pretty please with a cherry on top?”
He snorts, and you begin to grow frustrated. “Renjun—”
“Stubborn,” he answers.
You raise an eyebrow. “Of all the things you could’ve chosen, you went with that?”
“I finally answer your question and now you’re shaming me for it?” he shoots back.
You put your hands up in mock surrender. “Okay, okay, sorry. Anything else you can think of?”
“Unpredictable. Hotheaded. Infuriating. Nosy. Reckless. Unable to take anything seriously. No concept of personal space,” he lists them off like he’s has it memorized.
“These are all terrible traits,” you point out, frowning.
“Tell me about it.”
“Stop messing around,” you snap, giving him a small shove. “Some positive ones, please.”
Renjun pauses. “This might take a second.”
You give him a pointed look, crossing your arms and tapping your foot impatiently. At this point, you’re not even sure if he’s just joking or if he actually means it. However, it’s the only thing you’ve gotten out of him so far, so you have to work with it.
“Dedicated,” he finally says after some intense pondering.
You exhale in relief. “Thank gods. What else?”
“Kind. Cheerful. Carefree. Funny. Always makes me smile. Marches to her own beat. An open book when it comes to her feelings. Says whatever is on her mind without thinking twice. Gets excited about things that don’t matter. Has a wonderful laugh. Able to see the good in me, even though I’m an asshole—”
As he continues, you eventually stop paying attention to his words and watch his expression. All of his features have softened, and there’s a warmth in his eyes that you’ve never seen before. He has the gentlest smile on his face as he talks, but you’re not even sure that he’s aware of it.
You wouldn’t be a child of Aphrodite if you couldn’t recognize a boy in love, and Renjun certainly fits the bill.
Suddenly, you feel an ugly sensation twisting in the pit of your stomach, coiling like a poisonous snake. It’s an awful feeling, and it makes you ashamed because it resembles jealousy way too closely for your comfort. You hate feeling like this, but you don’t know how to stop it. In fact, you don’t even know why you’re feeling this way. It’s foreign to you, but you know it’s not coming from Renjun. This is all coming from inside you.
“Stunning in every way,” Renjun finishes quietly. His voice is barely a whisper, but you can hear it clearly, as if it’s right in your ear.
Digging your nails into your palms, you let out a low whistle. “That was very...specific.”
“Afraid of a challenge?” he counters, smirking.
His banter makes you grin. It’s almost enough to make you forget the feeling in your stomach. You wonder why you keep getting worked up by yourself. Maybe the summer heat is getting to you, and you really are on the verge of having a stroke.
“It’s like you don’t even know me,” you retort dramatically, clinging onto his arm again. “Alright, let’s go!”
“Where?”
“The Training Grounds!”
“Why there?” His nose crinkles.
“Your ideal type is as Ares kid as it can get,” you say, snorting. “So, obviously, we’re going to their turf.”
“Ares children are obnoxious and arrogant,” Renjun scoffs.
“And you’re a smartass, so it’ll be fine,” you say breezily.
He rolls his eyes, muttering under his breath.
“You’re such a drama queen. Besides, it won’t be only Ares kids there,” you point out.
He shrugs in a noncommittal manner but ultimately lets you lead him to the Training Grounds. When you arrive, as expected, it’s mainly Ares kids there. For people who aren’t used to it, the Training Grounds could be mistaken for a battle royale, judging by how vicious it can get at times. Even though it’s just a bunch of sweaty young adults angrily swinging swords at dummies and each other.
Stroking your chin, you begin to scan the area. It’s only when your eyes fall onto Park Sooyoung, the daughter of Ares that’s infamous for making men cower to their knees, that the lightbulb goes off in your head.
“What about Sooyoung?” you ask excitedly, tugging on Renjun’s shirt.
He frowns. “She hates me.”
“You don’t know that,” you say.
“She tried to throw a dagger at my head once,” he states flatly.
“She does that to everyone,” you dismiss. “I think you two would work well together.”
“Please, enlighten me.”
“She could be the brawn to your brain. She’s super rambunctious, while you’re more reserved and can keep her in check. But she’ll be able to teach you how to live a little, and you’ll just perfectly balance each other out. You know, that whole opposites attract and enemies to lovers trope,” you explain.
“Enemies to lovers?” He raises an eyebrow.
“Yes,” you say dreamily, “You two start off absolutely despising each other, but neither of you can fight the tension building and eventually just get entangled in the throes of your passion!”
“Okay, Fifty Shades of Grey, calm down,” Renjun says, scrunching up his features in disgust. “Stop writing fanfiction in your head and come back to the real world.”
You glare at him for killing your vibe. “Just go and try to talk to her.”
“I don’t want to be mauled.” There’s actually a small glimmer of fear in his eyes.
“Don’t be ridiculous. She’s not gonna kill you. At least not in front of everyone like this,” you reassure him.
“So you’re admitting that there is a possibility she would kill me.”
Fed up, you snatch his wrist and begin dragging him. He makes noises of protest, but you keep a vice-like grip on him. Sooyoung is sparring with some of her brothers (and frankly, handing their asses to them). You’re envious of how beautiful she is even with sweat dripping from her chin and tendrils of hair stuck to her neck. Her face is flushed with effort, but it makes her look like a peach.
However, don’t ever judge a book by its cover because she proceeds to lift one of her brothers, as if she’s bench pressing him, and tosses him aside like a rag doll. He comes flying directly toward you, but Renjun wraps an arm around your shoulders and yanks you aside with his surprisingly quick reflexes. Sooyoung’s brother lands with a hard thud, right beside your feet.
Renjun holds you tightly against him as he scowls at Sooyoung, who is smirking at him. Your heart is pounding wildly, though you’re not sure if it’s from the adrenaline rush of one of Sooyoung’s brothers hurling towards you like a projectile or the way Renjun is cradling you to him.
“Are you out of your mind?” Renjun demands, livid.
“Sorry about that,” Sooyoung says, trying to hide her amusement.
“No, you’re not. You did it on purpose,” Renjun snaps.
“Remove head from ass, Huang. If I didn’t think you’d be able to get her out of the way in time, I wouldn’t have done it,” Sooyoung responds, sounding bored.
“What if I hadn’t? Your tank of a brother would’ve knocked Y/N out,” Renjun says angrily, gritting his teeth. “And trust me, she doesn’t need any more screws loose than she already has.”
“Hey!” you chime in, offended. His arm falls from your shoulders and back to his side when you give him a dirty look. He seems a little surprised, whether the reason be from your sudden protest or how long his arm’s been around you.
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Sooyoung says, rolling her eyes. “Anyways, what do you want? You’re here to see me, right?”
Renjun opens his mouth to say something, but you slap a hand over his mouth. “Renjun thinks you’re really pretty and wants to train with you.”
Perhaps you could have delivered it in a smoother manner.
“Mm?” He stares at you with wide, horrified eyes. He’s trying to speak, but it’s all muffled by your palm.
Sooyoung snorts, crossing her arms and tilting her head. “Does he now?”
“Yes. He’s just too shy to admit it,” you lie through your teeth.
“Mhm, I’m sure he is,” she laughs. “What’s the actual reason you’re here?”
“Whatever are you talking about? That is the reason,” you answer sweetly. “So, what do you say? Wanna spar him?”
“Mmmmmm!” Renjun has you by the wrist, trying to remove your hand from his mouth, but you won’t budge.
“You must think I was born yesterday,” Sooyoung sighs. “You’re trying to set us up together, right? Glad to see you’re sticking to your whole matchmaking schtick.”
“Maybe,” you admit sheepishly. “Also, it is not a schtick! I have a natural affinity for finding people that are compatible with each other, like all Aphrodite children, and it is my duty to use that ability in order to help others.”
Despite how proud you look, Sooyoung and Renjun exchange knowing glances, and she reaches forward and gives him a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. “Stray strong, soldier.”
“Mm,” he responds, sounding tired.
You watch the interaction with a baffled expression. Neither one of them seems intent on providing any context for you. You’re hit with another pang of jealousy.
“While it would be my utmost honor to be Renjun’s girlfriend, I will have to decline. Firstly, because I would definitely murder him by our third date tops. And secondly, because I already have a girlfriend,” Sooyoung says nonchalantly.
Your hand goes limp and falls off of Renjun’s mouth, finally freeing him. Your jaw is hanging wide open, a direct invitation for flies. The both of you just stand there and gawk at her.
“What?” you exclaim, grabbing her by the shoulders. “You have a girlfriend?”
Most Aphrodite kids are just naturally aware of all the couples at Camp Half-Blood whenever they see them, but you make it a point to keep tabs on them so you can avoid incidents like this while you’re trying to find matches for others. Clearly, you’ve missed one.
“Ye—”
“Who is it?” you demand, resisting the urge to shake her until her bones rattle. “How could I not know about it?”
“Well, that was the goal,” Sooyoung explains, “we want it to be a secret.”
You’re gripping her so tightly that the tips of your fingers have turned white, though you’re sure it doesn’t bother her since she’s pure muscle. You want to know who it is so badly, but you respect her privacy, so you decide to let it go. Even if you really don’t want to.
“I understand,” you say solemnly, begrudgingly releasing her. Your body is slightly twitchy as you fight to control your need to snoop.
“You look like you’re about to pass out,” Renjun cuts in, half-joking and half-concerned.
“Today has not gone well for me,” you sigh, spirit crushed by the sudden news and exhausted because of your weird mood swings that have been happening. “I’m hot, and I just want a nice, cold shower, followed by some nice, cold ice cream, and then followed by a nice, warm nap. We’ll try this again tomorrow.”
“Want me to walk you back to your cabin?” Renjun asks.
You nod, shoulders slumped in defeat. “Sorry to bother you, Sooyoung.”
“No problem. You’ll get ‘em next time,” Sooyoung says, trying to sound encouraging.
As you turn to pitifully walk away, you notice Sooyoung and Renjun exchange another look in your peripheral. She gives him a thumbs up and he smiles wryly before he also turns to follow you.
It’s just the icing on the cake for your awful day.
The walk back to your cabin is pretty quiet; Renjun sensing your foul mood and making the wise decision of letting you pout all by your lonesome (not that he’s much of a chatterbox anyway). You’re looking down at your feet as you walk, and he kindly navigates you through crowds and moves you out of the way when campers run by. This is something Renjun does often, since you have a tendency to not pay much attention to your surroundings on a regular basis, so you don’t even think twice about it.
When you finally arrive, Renjun gives you a comforting pat on the back. “See you tomorrow. I’ll meet you here. Do not barge into my cabin and give me another rude awakening like you did today.”
You give him a strained smile and wink. “No promises.”
Of course, your act doesn’t fool him. He sighs. “Did it really bother you that much that Sooyoung managed to hide her relationship from you? It’s not like you to be so down after one failure.”
Honestly, that’s the least of your concerns right now. Did it hurt your pride? Yes, but you’ve recovered from a wounded pride countless times.
What bothers you the most right now is the vile jealousy that you’ve stored in your heart. How shitty you felt when he was describing his ideal type (and how absolutely lovestruck he looked), or how bitter you were when you saw that Sooyoung and Renjun were in on something you weren’t. It eats away at you, seemingly within moments, before you even know what’s happening. But why? Where is it all coming from?
This is Renjun you’re talking about. Renjun, your best friend. Renjun, the one who’s always there for you. Renjun, the closest person to you other than your bloodline.
Or so you thought.
The pain that you felt from him earlier still haunts you, even if it’s faint. You’ve always seen Renjun as someone you can confide in, no matter what, yet it doesn’t appear like he feels the same towards you. In fact, an irrational part of you thinks you may be the one he’s trying to keep it from.
And the paranoid part of you thinks Sooyoung knows about it too.
You know it’s horrible to think that, but you can’t control it. Renjun isn’t required to tell you everything he feels just because you do, not that it doesn’t hurt any less. It just bugs you that there could be someone closer to him than even you, which is an incredibly toxic mindset to have. You’re upset by the fact that you’re so possessive of him, yet you can’t seem to let him go either.
I guess it’s alright if it’s Sooyoung, you admit to yourself, since she has a girlfriend.
You blink.
Wait, what?
Before you can figure out what the hell your brain meant by that, you feel Renjun place his hand on your forehead. It jars you from your thoughts and you come back to reality, where Renjun is staring at you with furrowed brows as he checks your temperature.
“Are you sure you’re feeling alright? You’ve been spacing out all day,” he says, clearly worried.
“F-Fine!” you answer way too enthusiastically. “Sorry, what were you saying?”
“Don’t worry about it,” he dismisses. “Just go get some rest.”
“Aye, aye, captain,” you nod hurriedly, giving him a two-finger salute. “I’ll see you tomorrow, bright and early! Don’t oversleep!”
“Yeah, yeah,” he waves you off, smiling. You can tell he’s still concerned, but your brighter attitude relieves him just a tad. “Oh, and Y/N?”
“Mhm?”
“I forgot to mention one more trait for my ideal type.”
“What is it?” You wish you had never asked him in the first place. Just when your mood was getting a little better, it sours just as quickly.
“Dense,” he adds.
You give him a puzzled look. “Huh?”
“I want her to be dense,” he states simply.
“No way,” you argue, when his words finally register. “How is it gonna work out if both of you are dense as hell?”
“Who knows? Maybe our denseness will cancel each other out, and we’ll fall in love instantly,” he shrugs.
“Of course. PEMDAS and shit,” you jokingly agree.
“Exactly,” he says, nodding with a deadpan expression.
You laugh loudly—a big belly laugh that makes Renjun beam. The tension eases off his features, and he seems much more reassured. Your heart swells at how hard he’s trying to make sure you’re okay, not that he would ever admit that.
“Okay, for real now. Bye, Y/N.” He gives you a lazy wave before walking away, shattering your touching moment.
You huff at how he turned around without even letting you respond, though you still wave back (even if he can’t see it), and go back into your cabin. The moment the door closes behind you, you make a beeline for the shower. Peeling off your sweat-soaked clothes, you close your eyes in bliss when the cold water hits you.
As you let the water run down your body, you begin to feel more and more like a petulant child that just threw the biggest tantrum ever. You’re embarrassed that you overreacted like that and got so emotional for no reason. You chide yourself for being selfish. Just because you’re upset that Renjun doesn’t confide in you the way you do him, it doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t have someone. You should be happy for him when he finds a person he can fully open up to, even more so than you. Isn’t that what you’re trying to do for him right now?
You shut the water off before slapping your cheeks hard, giving yourself a wake up call. Resolving to be more composed tomorrow, you decide to just take a nap for now as you change into comfortable clothes and dry your hair off.
When you get to your bed, you see a small bowl of ice cream on your nightstand. Luckily, your shower didn’t take too long, so it’s still relatively frozen. It’s two scoops of chocolate, which is your favorite. You’re so excited that you almost miss the note tucked underneath the bowl.
don’t know when you’re going to get out of the shower, so this might just be soup by the time you’re out. if that’s the case, drink it anyways since i went through the trouble of getting it.
You snort. It’s so like Renjun to write a tactless note like this and not even bother signing off on it. If he’s going to be sweet, he shouldn’t ruin the moment by doing what he always does—opening his mouth (figuratively, in this case).
But it’s not enough to wipe that big grin off your face, as you carefully fold up the note and put it in your drawer.
He’s not cute at all.
ও DAY TWO.
The next day is about as successful as the first one, if not worse.
You had woken up with a game plan. Before you went to meet Renjun, you drafted up a list of campers that matched his ideal type (for the most part, since he was a little too specific). The goal was to narrow it down to a couple names before trying to march in head first, since that went disastrously yesterday.
Unfortunately, instead of things going smoothly like you had hoped, you find yourself banging your head against a tabletop repeatedly.
You and Renjun are currently sitting in the library of the Athena Cabin, having been there for almost an hour now. He’s nearly eliminated your entire list that you so meticulously curated this morning. You’re starting to wonder if he’s purposefully being difficult just to see you riled up.
Renjun watches you hit your head a couple more times before outstretching his hand, catching your forehead in his palm and blocking you from hitting it against the table again. “Stop before you bleed all over the table, and I get stuck scrubbing it out later.”
You raise your head to glare at him. “I’ll show you bleeding all over the table.”
He doesn’t even blink at your threat, infuriatingly unfazed. “Are you done with your list already?”
“No,” you grumble, “I still have some left.”
“So, if I’m not interested in the rest, does that mean we’re done for the day?” he asks.
“Haha,” you say wryly, “you wish. If you don’t pick one, then I’ll just go through the list myself and pick one that I think is the most compatible with you.”
“Damn it.”
“Okay, what about Hyun Seunghee? She’s an Apollo kid. Super talented and sweet, one of the most adorable people on the planet, and loves art just like you,” you suggest.
“Seunghee is a very sweet girl,” Renjun agrees. “But I don’t think I have the energy to keep up with her. She’s even bubblier and more hyperactive than you, and I can barely manage dealing with you.”
Sighing, you cross out Seunghee’s name on your list while simultaneously flipping off Renjun with your other hand. “Okay, what about Lee Mijoo? She’s one of my sisters, and honestly, she’s way out of your league but I’ll keep her in the running for now.”
You figure it’s best to not mention that, despite being way out of his league, Mijoo has expressed some very...explicit interest in Renjun before. It’ll make things awkward if they do end up talking, and you aren’t one to expose your own sister like that.
“Ew, no way, that’s weird,” Renjun says, scrunching up his nose.
“What, why?”
“I don’t want to date anyone related to you. That would make us sort of related too, and the last thing I want is to be your brother.” He spits out the word like it’s a stale piece of gum that he’s been chewing for four hours.
“First of all, slow down, tiger. You would have to marry her for us to be related. This is just a casual thing. No one said anything about marriage. Second of all, that is so mean! Why wouldn’t you want to be in-laws with me?” you demand, offended.
“Don’t most people enter relationships with the intention of spending the rest of their lives with each other?” he asks, skillfully dodging your question. “I won’t date someone if I think we’re just going to breakup down the road.”
There’s a beat of silence as you stare at him with wonder. Your lips curl into a gentle smile, and you can’t hide the adoration in your expression. Renjun truly is all bark and no bite. Who would’ve guessed there’s such a lovely and pure person behind his sharp tongue?
“Why are you looking at me like that?” he asks warily. You swear you can see a little pink dusting the shells of his ears and the tip of his nose.
“It’s just...you’re much more of a hopeless romantic than I initially thought, Huang Renjun,” you say teasingly.
Now, you can definitely tell he’s embarrassed. He mumbles a “shut up” under his breath, but you can barely hear it.
“Don’t put so much pressure on yourself,” you advise, “it’s totally natural to date and breakup. You can love someone with all of your heart, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be your life partner. Loosen up, my friend, and just have fun! Fall in love recklessly, and don’t think about anything else! That’s what youth is all about!”
You expect him to make fun of you for lecturing him like you’re centuries old, when the both of you can barely label yourselves as adults, but he doesn’t.
Instead, he’s gazing at you with a deep melancholy in his eyes. You’re sitting right across from him, but the way he looks at you makes it seem like you’re galaxies away. Your gut wrenches at how hurt and helpless he seems, like he’s yearning for something that is out of his reach.
Time seems to slow down as the two of you stare into each other’s eyes, as if you’re both entranced. It’s hard to tell how long you stay like that, but it feels like you’ve woken up in the middle of a sweet dream when Renjun finally breaks eye contact. You’re slightly disoriented, even though it’s probably only been a few seconds.
Clearing his throat, Renjun mutters, “Anyways, don’t put anymore of your siblings on the list.”
You take a moment to gather your thoughts before sighing. “Fine. But now I’ve run out of names on my list.”
“Well, gosh darn it, what a shame,” he says in a terrible Southern accent while attempting to get up. “Look’s like that’s a wrap for today!”
“Not so fast,” you cut in, snapping your fingers at him to sit back down. “We’re not done yet.”
He groans but reluctantly obeys, dramatically throwing his head into his arms when he does.
“Behave while I go through this list again,” you order, putting stars next to names that you’re going to force Renjun to reconsider with.
“Now, you’re making me want to hit my head against the table,” he complains, voice muffled by his arms.
You ignore his whining, focusing on your current task at hand. Just as you finish narrowing it down to a select few, someone brushes past you and it’s like you hear angels singing. Seo Soojin, daughter of Nemesis and actual hotness personified, walks by.
Soojin is relatively new to Camp Half-Blood, having arrived for the first time last year. You don’t know much about her personality because she keeps to herself and her tight-knit circle of friends for the most part. You know for a fact that she’s a far cry from Renjun’s type, but you’re starting to think he doesn’t really know what he wants—seeing that he shot down every single person on your list already. She will be a nice change of pace for him.
“What about Soojin?” you ask in a hushed whisper, leaning forward.
“Who?” Renjun looks around, not lowering his voice or trying to be subtle in the slightest.
“Shhh!” you hiss, grabbing him by his shirt and yanking him forward. You pull a little too hard and end up knocking your foreheads together.
“Ow! Why is your head made out of cast iron?” Renjun winces. He tries to lean back, but you don’t let him escape.
“Shut up! You’re the blockhead, asshole,” you protest, getting offended for the second time. “Anyways, Seo Soojin. The girl over there. The one with the bangs, big lips, and is hot as fuck?”
He squints, finally zeroing in on her. “What about her?”
“That’s what I’m asking you, dipshit!”
Renjun shrugs noncommittally—an action that you’ve grown extremely accustomed to during these past two days, an action that makes you want to rip your own hair out. “She seems nice.”
“Well, try and talk to her then,” you say, spelling it out for him. “You know, so you can see if the two of you will hit it off or not.”
He gives you a look. It’s the same look that a twelve-year-old kid gives his mother when she makes him take a picture in front of a national monument that he doesn’t know anything about, nor does he care to. However, she insists, so he reluctantly trudges over to it and takes the picture—hands firmly balled up by his sides and his lips pressed into a hard line, no matter how much his mom tells him to smile.
So, in other words, Renjun looks like he wants to crawl into a hole and die.
“Are you sure that you’re human?” you ask incredulously. You’re not even being sarcastic at this point; you genuinely want to know how he is able to feel absolutely nothing for women that could rival the goddesses themselves.
“Technically—”
“If you say that you’re only half-human because we’re demigods, you’re going to get a pen through the jugular,” you warn, pointing your pen at him.
“Am I wrong, though?”
“You know what I mean, you smartass. Are you or are you not capable of feeling romantic attraction towards another person?” you demand.
“I am,” he simply says.
“That’s it? That was the most robotic answer I’ve ever heard in my life!” you exclaim.
“What else am I supposed to say?” he asks, throwing his arms up.
“Have you experienced any blackouts recently, like woken up without memory of the past twenty-four hours? Have you checked your body for any chip implants under your skin?” You eye him suspiciously. “Been beamed up by any UFOs? Gone somewhere haunted?”
Renjun gives you a pointed look, sighing. “While it is touching to know that you do, in fact, listen to me whenever I talk about topics I’m interested in, this is not how I wanted you to apply your knowledge.”
“You know, now that I think about it, you sure talked about alien abductions a lot,” you say, stroking a fake beard on your chin. “Could it be because you were actually abducted by aliens and got brainwashed into gathering information about us demigods, but they took away your ability to feel emotions so they wouldn’t get in the way of your mission?”
You pause, waiting for his reaction. Renjun is very obviously trying not to smile, with his chin being propped up by his palm and his fingers covering his mouth. “Please, continue.”
“But ultimately, that will be your fatal flaw and the downfall of your mission because you can’t empathize like humans can,” you finish dramatically.
“Alright, let’s say I was brainwashed by aliens. Why would I then draw more attention to myself by talking about the very thing that happened to me? Wouldn’t that be counterproductive?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.
“Reverse psychology,” you explain, “you talk about them, so you won’t seem suspicious.”
Renjun exhales sharply before looking down at his feet. You can see his lips twitching as he tries not to laugh, though you’re pretty sure that exhale from before was a small laugh. You’re grinning, despite the fact that you’re also trying to keep up your detective act.
“I’m kind of wish I had been abducted by aliens right about now. Maybe brainwashed me would be a little more courageous,” he mutters under his breath. You’re not sure if you were meant to hear that, but you do anyways.
“That sounds exactly like something someone abducted by an alien would say!” you say in an accusatory tone, pointing a finger at him. He rolls his eyes, but a tiny smile eventually makes its way to his lips.
You gasp loudly, grabbing his face and pulling it towards your own. He makes a small noise of surprise, eyes as wide as UFO saucers. Your faces are so close that your noses are slightly brushing up against one another, but you’re not paying attention to that right now.
“Or you could be a lizard person,” you whisper, “you know, the ones that people think take the place of government officials.”
“They’re called reptilian humanoids,” Renjun corrects. His breath (which smells like the blueberry muffin he had this morning) rustles your baby hairs.
“Your eyes are glowing yellow, and your pupils are turning into slits,” you tease.
“Are they, now?”
No, they aren’t. His eyes are a cool, icy gray, like most Athena children. It’s always been a trait you’ve been jealous of. They sparkle like stars, or freshly fallen snow. They change according to his mood too. For example, when he gets angry, there are no stars. Instead of twinkling, they flash like lightning. His eyes are truly the window to his soul; they’re one of your favorite things about him.
Renjun slightly leans into your touch, and it finally hits you how close he is. You’re cupping his face with both hands, tilting his chin up, and it looks like you’re about to...kiss him.
 It seems you’re not the only one who thinks so, because almost the entire library is gawking at you. Including Seo Soojin. She looks surprised, and slightly disgusted, by the two of you.
Oh.
You feel heat rise from your neck to your entire face.
Oh gods, they all think we’re a couple.
You recoil away from him, withdrawing your hands like your just burned yourself. “We have to get out of here.”
“What?” As always, Renjun doesn’t know what’s going on.
“Just come on,” you say quickly, grabbing his arm and dragging him out of the library.
Your face burns for a long time after that, and you can no longer focus on anything else. In the end, you decide to call it a day after a few more half-hearted attempts to find more candidates for Renjun. When you come back to your cabin, you take another cold shower.
You’re not sure what you’re so flustered by: the fact that you didn’t realize what you were doing or the fact that everyone in the library saw it.
Or the fact that you didn’t mind the notion of being mistaken for a couple with Renjun.
ও DAY THREE.
You don’t meet bright and early with Renjun today. He demanded to sleep in this time, since he’s not an early riser to begin with and the past two days have sucked all the energy out of him.
Which means you’re free until noon. You check the time—10 AM.
Two hours to kill.
You don’t feel like getting all sweaty and hot, so any activity outside is out. You really don’t want to be judged by more Athena kids in the Arts and Crafts Center without Renjun. So, you decide to head back to the library, despite how yesterday went.
You check out a book that goes into depth about some of the most believable conspiracy theories; Renjun actually read it a while ago (and totally geeked out about it to you), but who would have thought that you would end up reading it too? Past you definitely would’ve laughed in your face if you told her that.
Once you get back to your cabin, you curl up in your covers and begin to read. You get about two chapters in when you hear the door open and Jeong Jaehyun, one of your brothers, walks in. He’s wearing his orange t-shirt that’s soaked with sweat, and his hair is dripping from perspiration too. His pale skin glistens, and he looks like a sweaty and sparkly vampire.
“Hey, kid,” Jaehyun says, nodding at you. He isn’t that much older than you, but he’s gotten into the habit of calling you kid for some reason.
“This is a surprise. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you come back from training before 5 PM,” you tease.
He lets out a low whistle. “Way too hot out there. I needed to get some A/C before I had a heatstroke—is that a book in your hand?”
“What about it?” you ask, raising an eyebrow.
Jaehyun snorts. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you near a book, much less read one.”
“Rude. I am expanding my horizons,” you retort.
“It seems so. What was up with you and Renjun at the library yesterday?” Jaehyun plops down on the edge of your bed.
“How do you even know about that?” you ask, wrinkling your nose. “And go take a shower first before you sit on my bed! You stink!”
“Do I?” He waggles his eyebrows and throws his arms around you in a bear hug. You try your best to shove him off, but he has a hold on your like a python.
“I hate you,” you say when he finally pulls back, sniffing your shirt to make sure you still smelled like your fabric softener. “Anyways, how’d you find out about the library thing?”
“Rumors spread fast around here, dear sister. But, seriously, what’s the deal?”
“There is no deal, Jaehyun,” you sigh, closing your book. “It’s all just a misunderstanding. We were joking around while I was trying to find a potential girlfriend for him there—which, by the way, is going horribly. I don’t think he feels romantic attraction properly like everybody else.”
“Oh right. I forgot you roped Renjun into your matchmaking thing,” Jaehyun says, disappointed. “Damn, and here I thought he finally made a move.”
Your head snaps up to give him a quizzical look. “What?”
“What?” He tilts his head.
“What did you mean by that, the part where you said you thought Renjun finally made a move?” you ask.
Jaehyun stares at you for a couple of seconds, an astonished expression on his face. “Do you really not know?”
“Would I be asking if I didn’t know?” you shoot back, annoyed that he still hasn’t answered you.
“Gods, all this time, I thought you were just pretending like you didn’t know because you didn’t want to make things awkward,” he continues, shaking his head.
“Jaehyun, what are you talking about?” you demand.
“Renjun is in love with you, Y/N.”
You gape at him. It’s a good thing you’re already sitting down because you definitely would have fallen on your ass if you had been standing.
“Th-Th-That’s impossible,” you stammer, like an absolute idiot. “There’s n-n-no way.”
“Oh, come on, lil’ sis. He’s never even tried to hide it. He’s so obvious about it that I seriously don’t understand how you didn’t know,” Jaehyun snorts. “You don’t even need to have powers to see that he’s head over heels for you.”
“But—but how? I would’ve sensed it!” you exclaim.
“You’re so sharp when it comes to other people, but you’re dense as hell when it comes to yourself,” Jaehyun points out, shrugging. “You just never paid attention, Y/N.”
You don’t respond. Your mind is a mess, a jumbled mishmash of emotions. You’re feeling so many things right now, and you can’t pinpoint any of it.. You wouldn’t be surprised if you passed out.
“Do you like him back?” Jaehyun asks softly.
“I—no! Of course not. Renjun’s my best friend. If I liked him, why would I be trying to find him a girlfriend right now? That’d be stupid of me. Yeah, that’d be so dumb. Why would I do that?” You’re rambling now, and it’s glaringly obvious that you’re trying to convince yourself rather than Jaehyun (and you know he can see it too).
“It doesn’t seem like you’re trying that hard, though.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” you ask defensively.
“The Y/N I know spends all hours of the day gathering information on her potential matches and making sure even the tiniest detail goes according to her master plan that she’s already drafted inside her head. She wouldn’t be sitting here, leisurely reading a book, especially if it’s going horribly. She would be doing everything in her power to get things back on track,” Jaehyun notes. “Ask yourself. Do you really want Renjun to get a girlfriend?”
“Wh-Why wouldn’t I?” You ask him, hoping he knows the answer, because you sure as hell don’t know.
“Because he won’t always be there anymore. He won’t have time to let you constantly drag him into your antics anymore. You won’t be his number one anymore. His girlfriend will be his first priority, of course, as she should. Think long and hard about that, Y/N. Will you be okay with that?”
“I—” The words seem to die inside your throat as you come to realization that you might not be okay with that at all. You’ve always gone to Renjun for everything and knowing that he may not always be there makes you feel lost, like a compass without it’s True North. You’re being selfish again, but it seems like you’ve gotten into the habit of acting selfish whenever it comes to Renjun. You’ve let yourself grow too reliant on him.
“Why do you care so much anyways?” Now, you’re deflecting. “Why did you tell me all of this?”
“Because you’re my little sister and I care about you. I want you to be one hundred percent sure of your own feelings, so your heart doesn’t get broken. The only reason I didn’t say anything sooner was because I thought you were already sure. Take some time and think about it, Y/N. It’ll be better for your friendship with Renjun if everything is crystal clear between the two of you,” Jaehyun advises, giving you a pat on the shoulder. He gets up, presumably to take a shower, and leaves.
You barely notice him go.
You sit in your bed, staring blankly at the wall, until Renjun finally arrives. He’s still a little groggy, probably having woken up ten minutes ago before coming. His clothes are a little rumpled and his hair isn’t styled, with his bangs flopping in his eyes. Normally, you would have made fun of him and mussed it up, but you have other things on your mind as of the moment.
Like always, he can tell something is up. He gets that concerned look on his face—the one where he has a deep crease between his brows and his rosy lips are turned downwards.
“What’s wrong?” He places a hand on your arm, lowering his head so he can’t get a better look at your face.
Physical contact with Renjun has always been something normal for you, but suddenly, you’re now acutely aware of everything about him. You can feel the pad of every one of his fingertips on your bare skin, the warmth of his palm, and just how easily his touch makes your body relax. Even when your brain is a whirlwind of thoughts, your muscles, like clockwork, instantly loosen up with just a brush of his hand.
“We need to talk,” you say shakily, moving away from him. There’s a flash of hurt in his eyes as his hand falls to his side. You feel bad, but the longer he’s touching you, the more confused you get.
You lead him a secluded area behind the Dining Pavilion, and he follows wordlessly. He waits for you to speak as the two of you stand there. Now that you’re here, you don’t really know what to say anymore.
“Are you in love with me?” you blurt before you can stop yourself. “Jaehyun said—”
“Yes,” Renjun answers. If he’s surprised or taken aback whatosever, he doesn’t show it. In fact, it seems like he knew this was coming. There’s no fear or hesitation in his eyes. He’s unwavering in his answer, and you wonder how he can always be so certain of his feelings.
“How long?” you ask tentatively.
“Probably when we first met,” he says.
“Why?”
“Are you asking me why I’m in love with you?” He raises an eyebrow.
You’re not sure. You’re not sure of anything anymore.
When you don’t answer, Renjun looks at you for a very long time. “You make me happy, Y/N. No matter how shitty things get, no matter how much I want to ram my fist through a wall, I see you and it’s like I can finally take a breath again. When you smile at me, I forget about everything that was bothering me. You and your daily shenanigans are the best part of my day. You’re obnoxious and frustrating and exhausting, but I fucking love you for it. I’m at your beck and call; I’d do anything for you. Whenever you’re happy, I become happy too. Nothing else matters to me anymore. That’s why.”
“You should have told me,” you say, voice cracking. Your heart is singing with joy, and you want to cry with relief. He talks about you like you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to him, and you so desperately want to be exactly that for him. You’re not confused anymore. Everything has finally become clear for you now. You truly wonder how you managed not to notice anything at all—whether it be your own feelings or his.
“I knew it would upset you,” he murmurs.
But then it hits you.
You can’t even fathom how much Renjun has had to endure throughout the years. He’s loved you all this time, yet he hasn’t said a word—out of consideration for you. In everything he’s ever done during the course of your friendship, he has always put you first. Even if it hurts him, he was willing to withstand it for your sake.
Yet all you’ve done for him is force him into letting you try to find a him a girlfriend, despite the fact that he was against it, and he had to pretend like he was okay as he watched you parade around like a fool telling him to love someone else.
You don’t deserve to be loved by someone like Huang Renjun.
You don’t deserve to love someone like Huang Renjun.
Suddenly, you begin to feel nauseous—probably sickened by guilt. Black spots dot your vision, and your legs start wobbling. Your body collapses only moments after, but luckily, Renjun manages to catch you before you can hit the pavement.
“Y/N? Y/N? Hey, talk to me,” you can hear him say very faintly. He’s cradling you against his chest, and you bury your face in it. Your head is spinning, but you feel surprisingly grounded in his arms.
Has he always smelled this nice? His scent is a mixture of books and sandalwood, and you’re basically crushing your nose against his chest like an absolute pervert. You don’t feel embarrassed because you know you can blame it on being sick later.
Speaking of sick, even though Renjun smells so good, you proceed to lean forward and vomit all over him and yourself.
Once again, you don’t feel that embarrassed because you black out soon after.
ও DAY FOUR.
You wake up tucked nicely under your covers. Much to your relief, you’re also in clean clothes—your favorite set of heart pajamas. Unfortunately, that’s the only bright side to your current state.
It feels like you haven’t had a sip of water in ten years, and your lips feel like they’ve been glued together. Even the tiniest movement makes your head feel like someone is drilling into your skull. Your body feels twenty times heavier, and not to mention, you just generally feel like shit because of what happened with Renjun.
“Oh my gods, you look so creepy right now. Who just lays there with their eyes wide open? If you’re awake, you should say something,” a voice chides. Turning your head just a smidgen (and wincing because of the pain), you see your sister, Lee Mijoo. She has a glass of water in her hand, setting it on your nightstand.
“How long have I been asleep?” you ask hoarsely.
“Let’s see. Renjun brought you back at like 2 PM yesterday, and it’s now 8 PM, so...thirty hours?” Mijoo counts on her fingers.
“Fuck,” you groan.
“Heatstroke will do that to ya,” she says, making a clicking noise with her tongue.
“I had a heatstroke?”
“Yep. It was a pretty nasty one too. You really did a number all over Renjun’s shirt. It was like a vomit Picasso,” Mijoo says, sounding kind of impressed.
Your face burns from humiliation.
“Here, sit up and drink this water,” she orders, helping you get up. Your head is screaming in pain, like a million little jabs to your brain. You down the water in one big gulp, not realizing just how dehydrated you were until your lips hit the water.
“So, you and Renjun, huh?” Mijoo asks sheepishly.
If you still had water in your mouth, you would’ve spat it out. “What?”
“Jaehyun told me everything,” she explains.
Traitor, you think to yourself.
“Don’t be mad at him. Renjun looked like a kicked puppy when we saw him. There’s no way I wouldn’t have asked questions,” she says. “Did you break his heart, little sister?”
You sigh, putting the cup back on your nightstand. “I hope not. His heart shouldn’t be broken by someone like me.”
“And what does that mean?”
“It means that he shouldn’t concern himself with me,” you sigh.
“Well, he does. He came to check up on you like a billion times. I had to ban him from coming back until tomorrow,” Mijoo snorts. “He’s a really good guy, you know.”
“Trust me,” you say, rubbing your temples. “I know that better than anyone.”
“So, what’s stopping you? I would be all over that.”
You glare at her before letting out another sigh. “He’s too good for me, Mijoo.”
“That’s for him to decide, no?” She raises an eyebrow.
“It doesn’t matter. I’m just saying the truth,” you say.
“So, you won’t mind if I date him?” she asks seriously.
Your face falls instantly, and Mijoo doubles over laughing.
“Geez, Y/N, you looked like you were about to claw my eyes out!” She wipes away a tear.
“Very funny,” you say dryly.
“But what if I had been serious? What would you have done then?”
You don’t answer.
“I think you really, really like Renjun, Y/N,” Mijoo whispers loudly.
“I think I love him,” you whisper back.
“Then, you should probably tell him.”
“Yeah, I should,” you echo.
Ignoring the major migraine you have and the fact that you’re still a little sluggish, you throw your covers off of you. You don’t change out of your pajamas, simply throwing a thin cardigan over it.
“Uh, Y/N, maybe you should wait until you feel be—”
“No, I have do it now before I change my mind,” you cut her off, slipping on your tennis shoes.
You hear Mijoo call after you, but you’re already out of the door. The Athena Cabin isn’t too far from the Aphrodite Cabin, so the walk is short. Much to your surprise once you’re inside, he isn’t there.
Grabbing the nearest Athena kid you see, you ask, “Where’s Renjun?”
“Um, I think he went to the amphitheater?”
The amphitheater is a bit further, so you promptly release and thank the kid, before taking off. You’re not sure if running is recommended right after a heatstroke, but you do it anyways. By the time you get there, your cardigan is slipping off and you’re dripping with sweat from the humid summer heat.
The amphitheater is extremely crowded, since there was probably a performance tonight. It’s actually a little hard to see over all the people. However, you find Renjun pretty quickly.
You see him standing off to the side, away from everyone else. He’s staring emptily at the stage, hands tucked inside his pockets. He looks so tired and dejected. His entire body slumps as if it’s too exhausting to stand up straight anymore.
All because of you.
You wait until you finally catch your breath, opening your mouth to call out to him. But you don’t ever get the chance to because a girl walks up to him. You can’t tell who she is because the back of her head is facing you, and you see Renjun give her a small smile before saying something.
The girl laughs and turns her head, giving you a view of her side profile.
Hwang Yeji.
All of the courage you had inside you withers away like a dying flower.
You take a step back, accidentally bumping into someone behind you. They say something to you, but you don’t hear it at all. Instead, you turn on your heel and run. You run wildly and blindly, nearly whizzing right past your cabin. You’re barely able get back inside, eyes so blurry with tears that you can’t even see where you’re going.
When Mijoo sees you, she doesn’t ask any questions. She just turns on the shower for you, extra hot. You step in without a word, letting the water mix with the tears running down your face.
It’s not that you think Renjun is in love with Yeji now. In fact, you know he’s not. It’s just that they would be much better together.
Yeji is one of the sweetest girls you know. She would treat Renjun with the kindness he deserves. She would consider his feelings first before making him do anything. She would make him happier than you ever could. They would be so compatible, and if you weren’t in love with Renjun yourself, you would definitely be trying to set the two up.
After your shower, you change into the clothes Mijoo set out for you—an oversized sweater with cotton shorts—and miserably crawl back in bed. You’re so drained that you don’t even have the energy to drink the fresh glass of water on your nightstand.
Everything hurt—mentally and physically.
Your heart aches most of all. You’ve dated here and there, gone through some breakups, but nothing has ever been as painful as this.
It’s a pain that consumes you whole. A pain that makes you want to scream but no sound will come out. A pain that makes you want to tear your heart out. A pain that makes you wish a bunch of aliens abducted you and brainwashed you into not feeling any emotions anymore.
It’s the same pain that you thought you felt from Renjun on the first day of when this all began.
And then the last puzzle piece finally falls into place.
That pain was never his.
It has always been your own.
You love Renjun too, and you’ve loved him for a very long time.
ও DAY FIVE.
“Come on, Y/N. At least get up to wash your face and brush your teeth,” Mijoo pleads.
You ignore her, pulling your covers over your head and turning away. It’s already well into the afternoon, but you’ve been feigning sick so you didn’t have to get up. The rest of the Aphrodite children have left and gone about their various activities throughout the camp, but Mijoo was tasked by Jaehyun to take care of you.
“If you just do that, I’ll leave you alone for the rest of the day,” she bargains.
You think about it for a second before sighing, begrudgingly sitting up. You can see the pity dripping out of her eyes when you brush past her to head to the bathroom. When you see yourself in the mirror, you can understand why.
Puffy eyes, matted hair, tear-stained cheeks, and chapped lips. It’s too bad you hadn’t been wearing mascara last night because the only thing you’re missing in your hot mess look right now are those dark smudges right under your eyes.
You brush you teeth, which takes a lot more effort than you realize, and splash water on your face. Not even bothering to brush your hair, you head straight back to bed. True to her word, Mijoo doesn’t say anything else after that.
That is, until a couple hours later.
“Um, so I know I said I would leave you alone, but I think you might want to get up for this one, Y/N,” she whispers. You can’t see her because you back is turned to her, but you can tell by the tone of her voice that it’s important.
Irritated, you yank the covers off you and sit back up once again. “Mijoo, I—”
You almost choke on air when you realize Mijoo isn’t alone. Renjun is right beside her, looking not much better than you. He’s in a wrinkled t-shirt and sweatpants, his hair looks like he just ran his fingers through it and called it a day, and he has purple bags under his eyes.
“Can we talk?” Renjun asks.
You hesitantly nod.
“I’ll, uh, give you two some privacy,” Mijoo says awkwardly before turning around and running out of the cabin.
You don’t know what to do now, staring down at your clasped hands. You hear Renjun take a step forward, and you feel the edge of your bed dip under his weight. There’s a sizable gap between you and where he’s sitting, but he’s still close enough for his scent to waft over to you. He smells wonderful like usual, and you hope you don’t stink in return.
“How are you feeling?” Renjun asks quietly.
“Like shit,” you answer honestly.
He laughs under his breath. “I know what you mean.”
Your heart skips a beat, and you feel giddy all of a sudden when you see him smile. How did you manage to turn into a lovesick little schoolgirl over night?
“I talked to Yeji last night at the amphitheater,” Renjun says after a moment.
“I know,” you mutter.
He blinks. “You do? How?”
You’re not sure how to answer that.
“Well, that doesn’t matter right now,” he dismisses, taking in a deep breath. “I just wanted to tell you that I ran into her after I checked up on you, and she invited me to watch her performance. I wasn’t going to say yes at first, but I thought it would make you happy if I did. I tried, Y/N, I really tried. Yeji’s a nice girl, but I can’t help how I feel. I love you, Y/N. It’s always been you, and it always will be. I’m not asking you to love me back. I just want to stay by your side, as your friend, if you’ll allow it. I—”
“Stop,” you interrupt, scooting closer to him and putting a hand over his mouth. “I have to tell you something.”
Renjun gives you a bewildered expression but nods nonetheless.
You remove your hand from his mouth, before taking in a deep breath of your own. “You’re my best friend, Renjun, and I’ve always confided in you for everything. I took you for granted, and I only thought about myself. Deep down, I think I’ve always known about your feelings and my own, but I was afraid to dig for it. I was comfortable, and I didn’t want to ruin that, even though you were hurting. I’m truly sorry for treating you that way, Renjun. From now on, I want you to tell me everything—the good, the bad, the ugly. Don’t bottle things up for my sake.”
He goes to say something, but you hold up your hand to stop him.
“The reason why I knew you were with Yeji at the amphitheater last night is because I was there too. I went to look for you,” you finally confess. “When I decided I was going to find a girlfriend for you, I thought I would be able to step aside when you did find someone. But once I saw you with Yeji, I realized that I couldn’t do it. What I want with you isn’t a friendship anymore. I’m in love with you, Renjun. I have been for a long time, and it took me four, almost five, years to see that because I never thought to listen to my own heart until now. I don’t think I will ever deserve you in his lifetime, but I love you. I’m selfish and I’m a mess and I always cause trouble for you, but I—”
Renjun wraps an arm around your waist and tugs your body flush against his. His hand comes up to cradle your cheek as his thumb lightly runs across your cheekbone. You’re clutching his shirt like a lifeline, holding your breath, as you stare into those gray eyes.
“You,” he whispers, his lips barely brushing against yours, “are more than I deserve.”
He leans in and closes the infinitesimal gap between your mouths. He kisses you desperately, like you’ll disappear any moment, and you can feel all of the emotions he’s been locking away. His arms are wound tightly around you as he pulls you into his lap. You weave your hands through his hair, and he deepens the kiss. Your shirt rides up as you shift, and you feel his hand slip up your shirt and rest against your back. It ignites a fire within you and you want to tell him to take it off completely, but your lungs are screaming for air, so you have no choice but to pull away.
“Sorry,” Renjun says breathlessly, his chest heaving up and down, as he takes his hand out from under your shirt.
“No, I liked it,” you say, shaking your head and placing your forehead against his. “I just ran out of air.”
“No,” he disagrees, “I didn’t mean for it to go that far. It was supposed to be a sweet kiss, but I lost control.”
He tugs your shirt back down and gently sets you back down next to him. You can’t help but giggle at how flustered he is. It’s not often that Athena children, especially Huang Renjun, loses control of their emotions like that.
“I’m glad you find this amusing,” he says wryly, rolling his eyes.
“You know,” you say in a sing-song voice, “I still technically never broke my streak. I found you a girlfriend within five days.”
“Does it really count if you ended up being my girlfriend?” He raises an eyebrow. “Seems a little unprofessional to me.”
“Don’t be a sore loser,” you taunt.
“You also said you were going to make me fall in love so hard that I’d forget my own name,” he points out. “And I didn’t, so that’s false advertising. Unprofessional and unethical? I could sue you.”
“You are so petty,” you squint. “And come on! That kiss didn’t make your forget? It made me forget!”
“I don’t like you that much.” He deadpans.
“Huang Renjun, you are so not cute!”
4 YEARS AGO.
“It’s not my best work, so you can have it,” Renjun says, trying to act casual about it.
You look so happy that Renjun would have painted a thousand more if you asked him to. You have a smile that could make the goddesses envious, and he can barely hear what you’re saying over the thumping of his own heart. He hopes his expression looks somewhat elusive because he’s not sure how to handle himself right now.
You’re the prettiest girl he’s ever seen in his life.
Renjun feels like he’s been shot by Eros’ arrow. He used to never understand why everyone was so wary of Eros; he’s basically just a mascot for corny Valentine’s Day cards. Apollo and his children avoid Eros and his children like the plague. Though granted, Eros did force Apollo to fall in love with Daphne and then she ended up turning into a tree. So, there is a little bit of history there. Point being, Renjun just didn’t get it.
But he think he does now.
“Thank you so much!” you say excitedly, extending your hand. “I’m Y/N!”
Renjun just stupidly stares at you. He’s not even sure if he’s worthy to touch your hand, but he also doesn’t want to be rude. He carefully shakes your hand, unable to say a word.
“What’s your name?” you ask, tilting your head.
Is it possible for a person to be this adorable? he thinks to himself.
“I’m...”
You’re looking at him, waiting expectantly.
“I’m...”
You’re still smiling, but he can see the slight confusion in your eyes. He’s never felt like more of a moron in his life.
“Ren...jun,” he finally says after an extreme amount of concentration.
You beam at him, and he wonders if he’s the only one seeing the ring of light surrounding you. There’s no way you aren’t Aphrodite’s favorite child.
“Nice to meet you, Renjun! Let’s be friends.”
Renjun isn’t sure he wants to be just friends, but he finds himself nodding along anyways.
Fuck, he thinks, I’m in trouble.
I’m all eyes (1/1)
summary: So, obviously, if Nico was wearing Jason’s sweatshirt, then they must be dating, right?
word count: 1,871
read on ao3
Will didn’t think he was the jealous type. Jealousy required some amount of anger, right? But he wasn’t angry - maybe just disappointed. And really, he didn’t even have all of the facts, so he shouldn’t let himself get worked up over it anyway.
It’s just that, well. It sucked to always look over at the Big Three table to see Nico in that giant purple SPQR sweatshirt. Or, it didn’t suck - it was a good look, and purple was definitely Nico’s color, as much as Will would prefer to see him in camp orange. The part that sucked was that Jason was always sitting beside him, and that sweatshirt definitely looked like it was Jason’s size.
So, obviously, if Nico was wearing Jason’s sweatshirt, then they must be dating, right? And on the one hand, it was exciting, because that meant Nico was into guys, which meant that Will might have a chance with him (and bonus points because he, too, was tall, blond, and blue-eyed). On the other hand, Nico was taken, and Will wasn’t a homewrecker (or whatever the fifteen year old version of a homewrecker was).
Anyway, Will had a lot of mixed feelings about seeing Nico in that sweatshirt. And he kept having those mixed feelings when he started to see more and more of Nico around camp. He would come by the archery range while Will was practicing with his shotgun (on his own target that he’d made specifically for shooting practice). He had started going to campfires (where he would pull the sweatshirt over his knees and turn himself into an adorable purple blob). He’d even started coming by the infirmary every few days so that Will could make sure he was keeping his fading in check (so, to be fair, Will had asked him to stop by occasionally, but that was for purely medical reasons).
On one particularly hot day in September, Nico entered the infirmary sans sweatshirt, and Will’s heart jumped in his chest. Sure, he’d seen Nico without that sweatshirt on a few times before, but he’d reacted the same way then, too. He tried to act normal, checking Nico’s solidity and making sure that his arms and legs still cast shadows, but the second Piper stepped into the infirmary, Will’s mind went blank.
She was wearing a giant purple SPQR sweatshirt, the one that looked just like Jason’s that Nico always wore. And hadn’t Jason and Piper been dating before they set off on the Argo II?
“Is that Jason’s sweatshirt?” Will’s mouth asked before his brain could stop it.
Piper paused and glanced down, like she’d forgotten what she was wearing. “Oh, uh, yeah. Nyssa’s got the AC blasting in the bunker, so I snagged this from Jason’s cabin on the way here.”
“Oh.” Did that mean they were still dating? Or maybe they just had a really amicable breakup? Or...Nico, Jason, and Piper were all in some sort of polyamorous relationship? Not that there was anything wrong with that, of course, but the three of them together certainly made for an odd bunch. “Sorry, did you need help?”
She shook her head. “Nah, just came to see what was holding Nico up. He’s been helping us try to track down Leo.”
“Really?” Will asked, glancing at Nico in surprise. “That’s...nice of you.”
Nico shrugged. “I’m just gonna make sure he stays dead this time.”
Will grinned. “Ah. That’s more like it.”
“So, am I good to go?” Nico asked. “I’d like to track Leo down before Thanatos does.”
Will rolled his eyes fondly. “Yeah, go ahead. But as a bit of medical advice, murder might not be best for your mental health.”
Nico scrunched up his nose. “I don’t think you have to worry about that.”
“Sure, Death Boy,” Will said, brushing off his reply. It was probably a joke anyway. Right? “Get out of here already. I’ll see you later.”
As Nico started toward the door, Piper threw an arm around him, which Nico immediately tried to shove off, albeit unsuccessfully. Once he was sure they were gone, and once Kayla returned from her snack break, Will snuck out the back entrance.
He went to the cave under Half Blood Hill, announcing himself as he pushed the curtain aside and walked in. He found Rachel the way he usually did, one bare foot holding a paintbrush as she worked on her current project. “Hey,” she greeted, not lifting her eyes from the canvas.
“Hey,” Will replied moments before flopping down face-first onto a pile of overstuffed pillows. He was pretty sure it was the space that Rachel pretended was her bed whenever she stayed the night at camp so that Chiron wouldn’t realize that she snuck into the Apollo cabin every night to sleep on one of the spare bunks. He’d gotten close with Rachel since the end of the Titan war, seeing as he was usually the one to catch her when she collapsed after giving a prophecy. It had helped them bond. Now Rachel felt like something of a sister, except Will’s only experience with siblings were his godly siblings, who always just felt like close friends. So, anyway, Rachel was somewhere between Will’s newest vaguely-related sister and a close friend. Which meant that they had a good enough relationship that they could sit in silence without it being awkward, which was how the next few minutes passed.
Then, Will lifted his face off of a pillow and glanced to the side, spotting a familiar shade of purple. He picked it up - an oversized SPQR sweatshirt. “Whose is this?”
“Huh?” Rachel barely glanced away for a second before turning back to her easel. “Oh. That’s Nico’s. He must’ve left it here last night.”
Will’s head snapped up. “Nico was here? Wait, you hang out with Nico?”
Rachel shrugged. She leaned forward and pulled the brush out from between her toes, apparently deciding that Will had become too much of a distraction for the time being. “Yeah, we go way back. We both helped Percy and Annabeth with the Labyrinth, remember? And then after that he would check in on me sometimes to, like, make sure nobody came after me. It was kinda creepy at first, you know, because he just sort of appears out of nowhere sometimes? But as soon as I started feeding him, he opened his mouth and never really shut up, so the creepiness kinda faded.”
Will smoothed a hand across the fabric. It was soft, and big enough that it would fit him easily. And Rachel said it was Nico’s, not Jason’s - not that it could be, since he’d just seen Piper wearing Jason’s about ten minutes ago. And if Rachel and Nico were friends, then she would know-- “So Nico’s not dating Jason?”
Rachel blinked, clearly taken aback by the question, and then laughed. “No, definitely not.”
Will’s brain was moving too fast for him to process anything. “He-- I--” He scrambled to his feet and gathered the sweatshirt in his hands. “I gotta go!”
“Uh, bye?” Rachel called after him as Will took off out of the cave. Piper had said that she was with Nyssa at Bunker Nine, so Will took off toward the woods. He was grateful for his long legs that carried him across camp so quickly, leaping over fallen branches and thankfully not tripping up on any roots. He found himself outside Bunker Nine in no time, and it wasn’t long before his eyes landed on Nico. He sprinted up to the other boy, hunching over for half a second to catch his breath before he said, “Can I talk to you?”
Nico nodded, his eyes wide in obvious surprise at having Will suddenly appear in front of him. (Served him right for doing the same to everyone else for the last few years.) Will led him out of the bunker and away from listening ears, and then handed over the sweatshirt.
“Oh,” Nico said, sounding almost disappointed. “Um. Thanks.”
“Rachel told me it was yours, so I...brought it,” Will told him. “I always thought-- I mean, I assumed-- You and Jason are just so close, and I figured--”
“I don’t like Jason,” Nico said quickly, defensively, and his cheeks began to color. “Not… Not like that, I mean. He just got this for me because he was sick of me stealing his all the time.”
“No, right, of course,” Will replied as his heart sank. “I mean-- Oh gods, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to assume you liked guys-- I never should’ve--”
“I do,” Nico cut in, and Will’s mouth snapped shut. “I, um. I’m...gay.”
“Oh. Oh! Cool! I mean, I am too! Or, uh, I’m bi, but, uh. I like guys, too.”
If Will’s arms weren’t frozen at his side, he probably would’ve smacked himself for babbling like a total idiot. But maybe it was worth it to see the way Nico’s cheeks continued to grow red.
“Cool,” Nico said softly, dropping his gaze to his shoes before rapidly looking around at anything that wasn’t Will. “Would you, um. Would you maybe be interested in sitting with me at the campfire tonight?”
Will was pretty sure his soul had left his body, but he still managed to ask, “Like, as a date?”
Nico scuffed the toe of his shoe against the dirt. “If… If you want.”
“Yeah!” Will said quickly, and then, “That would be, um. Cool.”
“Cool,” Nico repeated. He started fidgeting with the sweatshirt in his hands before he suddenly held it out to Will. “You should take this. It’ll probably be cold tonight, so…”
Will barely managed to stop himself from saying, it’s okay, I have my own. Instead, he forced his hands out to take the sweatshirt back. “Cool.” Did he know any other word in the English language besides cool? “I’ll, um. See you tonight then.”
Nico smiled, and Will’s heart soared. “Yeah. See you tonight.”
When Will arrived at the campfire later, happily yet nervously showing off the SPQR laurels on his chest, he made his way straight to Nico, relieved to see that the other boy had shown up in just a t-shirt.
“Hey,” Will said, smiling brightly as he sat down in the open space beside Nico. “You know, it might get cold this far from the fire. Maybe you should borrow this.” Will held out his own neatly folded orange camp hoodie, one with a large 7 on the back and a red cross on one sleeve - a sweatshirt that was unmistakably Will’s.
Nico smiled down at the sweatshirt, and then up at Will like this was exactly what he’d been hoping for. “Okay,” he said as he took the sweatshirt and pulled it on over his head.
“It might be a little big on you,” Will warned, but Nico only smiled brighter when his head popped out of the neck hole.
“That’s okay,” Nico replied. Just the very tips of his fingers stuck out the ends of the sleeves, and Will got the sudden urge to hold Nico’s hand. Maybe he would try later, when Nico didn’t have all of his focus directed at Will. “That’s how I like it.”
