My favorite Az moments in this entire series have been with Nesta and Gwyn 🥰

Az calmly asking Nesta why she isn't training. Not as a means to insult her, but just asking because he cares about her and her feelings. Nesta being so worried about Az in the Bog of Oorid that she demands that Cassian leave her in a tree so he can go back to rescue Az. Az being absolutely frantic when they can't find Nesta in the Bog. Nesta and Az dancing together. Nesta going up to talk to Az, and comfort him, when she notices him being more aloof than usual at Winter Solstice. Az buying her a present specifically for her, knowing she wasn't able to buy him a gift in return, and giving it to her in front of everyone. Nesta being so excited that she jumps up and flings her arms around Az. Az chuckling and squeezing her gently. Nesta trying so hard to get Az to smile at her. Az and Nesta going back-to-back to fight the Middengard Wyrm. Az coaxing the Mask off of Nesta, grabbing her as she falls and bringing her to his chest, stroking her hair gently. Nesta and Az walking side by side after that ordeal, not wanting to be too far from each other. Nesta sticking up for Az when Bryce calls him a creep. Az boasting about Nesta spectacularly beheading the King of Hybern. Az saying Nesta is someone he loves and asking for her forgiveness, to which she says that there's nothing to forgive. Az quickly flinging his arm in front of Nesta to protect her when the door to the chamber starts to open. Nesta using her magic to let Az through the wards, which he walks through without a shred of fear. Az and Nesta working in perfect tandom to distract Bryce and to try and gain an advantage over Vesperus. Injured Nesta leaning against Az for support.

Az wrapping Gwyn in his cloak after she endures an incredibly traumatic event. Az originally wanting to be alone, but staying with Gwyn, even after she gives him an out. Gwyn teasing Az. Gwyn is comfortable around Az enough to practice cutting the ribbon with him watching. Az showing her how to properly rotate her blade and not once thinking of his scarred hands, even though she's staring right at them. Gwyn is absolutely irreverent to Az being a shadowsinger. Gwyn causing Az's shadows to sing and dance. Az, who normally has an unreadable face, has admiration and quiet encouragement shining from his face while watching Gwyn prepare to cut the ribbon. Gwyn challenging Az.

And then, of course, there's the fact that Az is rarely surprised by people... and both Gwyn and Nesta surprise him within days of each other. Gwyn surprises him by asking if he sings, and then Nesta surprises him a few days later by laughing 😍

Girl, he is sweet. Period.

He is the sweetest person with the most misunderstood facial expression that there is. He has never been rude to any of the Archeron sisters. Since the first meet.

He may not have spoken as softly as he does with Elain but everyone speaks that way with Elain. She is described to be as someone who is gentle and lovely. Rhys also speaks to her with a warm tone albeit with a little internal conflict given how the sisters treated Feyre.

He is the only one out of the IC other than Cassian and her sisters who gives Nesta a gift during the solstice.

The first person who defended her High Lady during the meeting with the High Lord.

He may be an emo boy but he has the biggest heart.

Here’s a conversation between present day Gwyn and Gwyn from 3 years ago right around the events of Sangravah. This was inspired by the bus stop scene between Barbie and the old lady at the bus stop in the Barbi live action!

Gwyn has always been a very important and meaningful character for me. She represents me almost perfectly and during rough time she rlly gave me the motivation to stand up to my own fears. Just like that she has been an inspiration to so many women in this book community. Just like that, I also believe you yourself should be your biggest motivation. What I loved while I was thinking of this concept was that younger Gwyn is not just looking at her older self to find hope and motivation, but older Gwyn is also being able to look back at how far she’s come. And that no matter what, she will always be enough. I also wanted Gwyn to have short hair cuz I loved how the idea of cutting hair represents growth and liberation in many cultures and works of fiction.

I remember when you followed me and your username (which you have changed "puffybistcuit") stuck in my head. For some reason, you were always online when I posted and always managed to be the first person who liked them. So when some beautiful person started to anonymously send me hugs and kisses I knew but well, I couldn't be sure. I don't remember what made me certain of you being the anon but when I started following you, you only cemented my suspicious by instantly sending me another anon about how I should guess who you were hehe you're not subtle at all babe😭

I said all this to get to this point. I always waited for your Hugs and Kisses. They made my day, and I'm pretty sure you sent one of them while I was having a mental breakdown, so you have no idea how your cat gifs or those emoji combos have made me feel better and loved by someone who has never even met me but deems me worthy enough of sending me a little love.

The reason I prefer Valkyries to the Inner Circle and actually don't like the IC at all has a simple explanation.

IC's situation: Az doesn't trust Amren and still spies on her. Mor is such toxic friend, using Cass to avoid Azriel. These three and their relationship is so sad. Feyre's only there because she's Rhys's mate (blah blah they're her friend too, blah blah.) Amren is hurtful towards others and everyone's like "thats just her character"

While valkyries: respectful and kind towards each other. Nesta (actually mean to people who are also mean to her) is so considerate around the people she feels safe with. Gwyn overcame one of her greatest fear because she knew Nesta needed her. Emerie is brave and protective of her friends. Their friendship feels safe, its based on trust and kindness.

It's so beautiful I'm tearing up.

Az spent 500 years pining after Mor because he thought she was his mate. She's not.

Then when Feyre and Nesta were mated to Rhysand and Cassian, he thought Elain should be his mate because she's the third sister and he's the third brother. She's not.

Meanwhile, Az's mate - Gwyn - is right there bantering with him, challenging him, teasing him, causing his shadows to sing and dance, and Az is...totally oblivious to it.

I cannot wait for their book because I want to see how long it takes Az before he starts to realize that Gwyn may be his mate 🤣
